Shauna and the baby were probably both going to die. depending on your interpretation of the dream realm, maybe for a time Shauna did die. something brought her back, or kept her from staying there. but it wasn't Mari's "wilderness, I hope Shauna doesn't die" or Travis' well intended but useless blood magic (recall Lottie "can't this just be enough? please?" it was never enough) or even the baby's death covering the symbol on the blanket in blood. those are futile hopes and bargains. the baby was already doomed. and the wilderness doesn't trade, we know this. it chooses. someone has to die. it took Crystal and spared Shauna. Shauna thinks she's been snubbed by the group and by extension the wilderness when it takes Javi and Nat is crowned, but what she fails to see is that she was chosen first. she keeps being chosen! not to die, to live. Coach Martinez dying to put her oxygen mask on. Jackie dying to later feed her. the wilderness taking Crystal (where is her body? it belongs to the wilderness now) to get Shauna through a dangerous labor. Nat dying in her place as the queen of hearts twenty-five years later. maybe it always did like Nat best, but it killed for Shauna first. and it kept killing for her. for girls like Shauna (and for girls like the Wilderness) isn't that just the shape love makes? a knife wound.

wendy now pretends that this is embarrassing, but she still lightly stomps her feet to the rhythm and she secretly knows all the lyrics; jackie is so used to it that when he gets his own car on his 17th birthday he starts doing the same thing (even the songs are exactly the same; it actually helps him focus while driving)

every time kon happens to ride with them, tim purposefully puts on more love songs just to be able to flirt with kon with his eyes only, and every time kon is like "dude you're driving and we have kids in the back, i really can't blow you rn" (only with his eyes, too)

Joe was born in Sicily and credited the Italian island with planting the seeds of his family’s love affair with racing. “They used to have this huge race called the Targa Florio that was really big and famous from the 1920s right up to the mid-70s,” he said. “I was too young to remember but my dad tells me my grandfather used to put me on his shoulders and walk me down the hill to watch the cars as they came through. I think motorsport is in our DNA.”

thinking about. post-canon love lies bleeding. thinking about jackie and lou bouncing between motels, the truck breaking down, or money running out. jackie getting herself into a dangerous situation with a mechanic or a motel owner, where she's telling him she'll get him the money, but he's violent and angry. maybe lou told her not to deal with it, but lou's gone to deal with something else. and he's started it, getting violent and shitty with her. so when lou gets back there's just another body to leave in the desert again. and how it makes them both feel so loved and needed and wanted. lou calling beth to ask her if their mothers body was ever found, on the property or in the canyon. beth, still furious and hating her, but taking her call anyway, saying she thinks their mother is alive, that she really did get out. maybe beth's saying it to punish herself or maybe she's saying it to punish lou. probably both.
