I use a lot of dark colors in my art and sometimes that habit is really hard to break, so I challenged myself to draw something with only light colors (I actually tried to do that here on a similar piece and failed spectacularly)
Anyway, I don’t think Jack Frost (1979) is a particularly good movie, but it’s still my favorite Jack Frost design. I was kinda disappointed the RotG movie didn’t go for something a bit more magical

If I had a nickel for every movie I’ve seen where Jack Frost is the main character and the story centers around how he’s sad humans can’t see him, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s interesting it happened twice.

From both the votes and the likes from the recent poll, it's meh, but some elements work while some didn't. In my opinion, the animation and designs aged poorly, most action scenes were terribly set up, voice acting was a mixed bag, and don't get me started on how they treated Antoine!!! Were there some good things? Yes, but it does not overshadow the bad. So in The Workshoppers universe, this movie is... not 50% canon. So I'll keep what did work and cut the bad. A LOT OF BAD! So congrats for nobody saying the movie lore doesn't exist, because you gave Jack Frost an evil Azula twin sister! Though I changed her design to fit the Rankin Bass style. TA-DA!!!
Here is my drafting system to make a new version of Jackie Frost by combining her looks from the sequel, the sequel's book design, and some influences of Jack Frost for a touch. Even the YouTube Channel mindlessgonzo made fun of Jackie being a bootleg Bratz doll. So, get ready for Jackie having some Bratz fashionista influences! I also included Snow Miser and one of the fairies from The Life and Times of Santa Claus as backup ideas. I made two versions of Jackie just to see how she turned out with a skirt or her movie's short pants. A little hint of Jackie's character.

So because I'm always kind of a sucker for songs that change our perception of an earlier scene, let's talk about how "It's Lonely Being One of a Kind" changes our understanding of Jack's actions during the number "Jack Frost is Here" in the 1979 Rankin-Bass Jack Frost TV Special.
Though it actually has two different ways that it goes about doing this. The first is simply because this is the first time we get a good listen to Jack's internal monologue and how despite the fame he has accumulated for his work over the years, he still feels isolated from everyone around him. He'd rather have connection than fame, and he finds ordinary things and a simple lifestyle to be increasingly appealing the more he works among humans.
The second way it does this is during his appeal to Father Winter, when he sings a reprise of the song. In this sequence, we're shown multiple clips from the opening song "Jack Frost is Here," but this time it's being shown as Jack sings his lament. In the first clip, we see that sequence where he briefly stops the coin from falling, which, while it doesn't change any of the visuals, his statement that whenever he tries to take part in their joy, no one can hear or see him, implies that this moment is more than just Jack being a prankster. The other one that we see is from near the end of the song, when he waves to the children sledding. In this case, however, we linger on Jack waving longer than in the original song, so that now we see him stop waving and slumping his shoulders. The implication being that all those times we see him smiling and waving or interacting with something someone has made, we're not just watching him having fun and being a slightly mischievous sprite, we're watching him desperately seeking a connection with someone, anyone, and never quite succeeding.
With that in mind, it's no wonder that when Elisa speaks to "Jack Frost" in a kind of general sense, he assumes she is speaking to him specifically. At this point in the narrative, he's ready to take anything that could possibly, by any stretch of the imagination, be interpreted as a response, for even the slightest indication that he's actually allowed to participate as anything other than an invisible outsider.

Christmas confession: I had a crush on Rankin Bass' Jack Frost as a kid. Little me wanted to be romantically pursued by the concept of winter and I respect that about her.

me: *standing there in my puff coat, complaining about how the apples in the walk-in cooler have holes in them* Ro: stop. stop!! I can't bear to look at you when you're-- you don't have a hat on. it's weird!! me: okay okay JEEZ I'm going. Ro: I'm sorry. it's weird. me: *comes back 15 seconds later wearing the sparklehat* is this better? Ro: honestly yes. me: okay so,
#sparklehat is based off the 1979 Jack Frost movie.#except I put a big bell at the end not a plastic bauble#and it is very cold against my neck. so I do not wear it in the cooler.
