Tell me about Rhys, the sceleton.
Okay, believe it or not, but there was a time when the great necromancer Onnophris Assar was actually young (and still betrothed to his future wife Sothis). It was long before the plague, when Djareta was flourishing. Once, the clumsiest sorcerer he'd ever met visited him, seeking guidance, for he had read every book, scroll and tablet on spellcasting he could find, and yet moved in the world of magic like a child in the fog due to the wild nature of his magic.
Grandpapa had every right to shrug and send him away, but instead he took pity of the lad and tried his best to guide him, even though the kinds of magic they used were very different. The results were... not satisfying to either of them, and soon Rhys became a laughing stock of all Djareta, just like he had been back home. It didn't help that he also started courting his teacher's fiancee, having somehow overlooked the nature of their relationship, and composed for her one bad poem after another. And sent them to her. Anonymously. So no one - Grandpapa and Grandmama included - knew it was him.
But! All his failures only made him work even harder, and he promised spectacular fireworks for Sothis' upcoming birthday. On the night of festivities, he read his newest poem out loud (coming out as the infamous author at last) and then, uh.
Then his wild magic kicked in.
So he accidentally set himself on fire and got burnt to the bones.
And then Grandpapa kept the bones, so that Rhys made himself useful at last.

A dragon needs his hoard, why not a hoard of dice? This is the Jabberwocky of my campaign which my players may have to face in the future.
I picked up an old hobby of mine again, because of dice making: Painting minis. I have so many colours for inking the dice, I just had to start again. The dragon mini is from Dungeons & Lasers.

EX2 — Land Beyond the Magic Mirror (1983) is the natural companion to Dungeonland, translating Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland sequel Through the Looking-Glass (1871) into D&D terms. Despite adapting the more interesting of the two books, this mod is somehow more underwhelming than Dungeonland, with which it directly connects at certain points. There is a giant magic chessboard encounter, which is fairly mediocre by giant chessboard encounter standards. There is a house of mirrors which is pretty good. Bizarrely, Gygax totally misuses the Jabberwocky, one of the weirdest and coolest monsters to emerge from literature. It’s just a big dumb pile of hit points AND THE MODULE DOESN’T REQUIRE THE PARTY USE A VORPAL BLADE TO KILL IT. This is a travesty.
It does, however, have the scariest piece of James Holloway art ever created. Rendering that ghost in a different style from the rest of the illustration really makes it an order of magnitude creepier. I hate it (in the good way).

Name: Aisling Sturnidae Age:  28-32 29 Date of Birth: June 7th Gender: Cis Female Sexuality: Heterosexual Residence: Tulgey Woods Occupation: Herbalist Species: Jabberwocky Affiliation: None Face Claim: Rose Leslie         Suggested: Summer Bishil, Blair Redford, Michael Trevino, Stella Maeve Played by: Mandi (She/Her)
During the Panic when everyone thought that the creatures of Tulgey would be their demise, a mob of villagers armed with torches approached the small settlement of Jabberwockies. Fires caught quickly, killing most of the Jabbers there, but one child escaped. They were covered in burns and blinded by the fires. While they slowly healed, their sight did not return. The Blind Beast had to learn to use their abilities of sound manipulation to compensate for their lack of sight. While they survived all this, they felt bitter toward the nonmagical population of Wonderland. What had they and their family done to deserve this, anyway? They had never harmed anyone... Well, the Blind Beast got their name for a reason. In human form, no one pays any attention to the Jabber, but when darkness settles and some wander too close to Tulgey, the Blind Beast taunts them in every way they can. They have terrorized plenty of people, sure, but their ignorance and prejudice still stands and the Blind Beast will find a way to fight back since their family could not.
The Rose Rogue: The Beast doesn’t care to admit it, but they do have something in common with the Rose Rogue. Both are creatures that Wonderland hates, and both have reason to hate them back. The Beast isn’t looking for any help in their small acts of revenge, but maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to have someone to share these feelings with. After all, they have lived alone for so long, just a simple conversation feels good once in a while.
The Schoolteacher: If there was one single nonmagical inhabitant that the Beast didn’t mind so much, it would be the Schoolteacher. There is something about the way they sound when they talk about all the good they want to do for Wonderland, for all of Wonderland, that makes the Beast feel normal and deserving. The Beast wishes more people would think like the Schoolteacher was, but there is little they can do to change that. Either way, they enjoy their lessons from the Schoolteacher, the little bit of normalcy they have.
The Necromancer: The two met just a few months ago in the Woods and talked for a while about the sounds around them. Both, in their own ways, could hear things others couldn’t, experiencing their own unique soundscape. The Necromancer told them that they had found Jabberwocky song could sometimes wash out the sound of their ghosts. That was the first time the Beast had ever heard someone say something so wonderful about their kind.
The Blind Beast is currently TAKEN.
Aisling Sturnidae was born on a humid June night soon after her twin brother, into a world that wanted her dead. She and Poxy would curl up beside their mother each evening and listen to the playful song describing the slaying of a jabberwocky and the rejoicing that followed. It had become a sort of mocking tune, but Aisling’s father would always frown at his children’s ignorance, for the song was closer to the truth than they knew. Aisling and Poxy were the only two children in the jabberwocky settlement of Irkwood, but there was never a dull moment to be had. The young jabberwockies grew up hearing the songs of their elders and tales of their species’ greatness, but also stern warnings to never wander outside the settlement. Poxy, in his ever-so-gallant way, had obeyed while Aisling scampered off into the woods to see what creatures, plants, or people she could find. Thanks to the help of a kindly old Inhabitant with no fear of the Tulgey’s monsters, Aisling learned the purposes of the various plants within the Tulgey. Most had magical properties and sinister uses, but the young jabberwocky had no reason to kill. If she fell into harm’s way, her trained voice would howl, screech, and send the attacker running for the hills. Her people called themselves the kings of the Tulgey, and Aisling began to see that they were right.
All kings fall in due time, however, and on that fateful day, Aisling heard the crackle of burning wood long before she saw the flames. She bounded towards Irkwood, the acrid smell of destruction filling her nostrils until her eyes watered, only to find her home up in smoke. The dark canopy of branches had begun to crash to the ground, letting moonlight pour into the Tulgey for the first time in centuries. Villagers torched the settlement, their shouts drowning out the screaming jabberwockies. Aisling had torn through the rubble to find her house, where her father ordered her to flee moments before a spear pierced his heart. She refused, heading into their house to rescue Poxy, who remained frozen in fear. The last she saw of her brother was his tearstained face as the smoldering ceiling collapsed around them.
With every last bit of her strength, Aisling dug herself out of the house and ran from the pursuing villagers. Burns covered her body and stung her eyes, but no one knew the Tulgey like she did. After the last of the villagers had given up, Aisling settled into the hollow of a tree and waited to die.
A merciful death never came. After a seemingly endless sleep, Aisling awoke to hear the distant sound of rushing water. She nursed her wounds with plants she sniffed out along the way, bandaged her burns with the remnants of her clothes, and waited for her sight to return. Though the wounds healed with time, her eyes did not, though with her impeccable hearing, she could sense her surroundings using a sort of echolocation. With her heart marred by fury, Aisling would steal food from other creatures, chase families out of their houses, and attack anyone who wandered too close to her territory. As her strength grew, so did her hatred of the nonmagical population of Wonderland. Most of all, she reserved her deepest hatred for the Crown. It was a Queen who enslaved a jabberwocky, and now a King who roused the villagers into slaying her people. It was with great pleasure that she lured in wanderers near the edge of the Tulgey with sweet birdsongs, then terrorized them with horrific auditory hallucinations.
Her body is still covered in burn scars and her eyes stare unfocused into the distance, but Aisling cares little for her physical appearance. Many have begun to tell tales of the blind beast in the Tulgey and the nightmares that would follow any encounter, but few know that the jabberwocky spends her time cultivating a garden of mysterious plants and composing melancholy songs. If she wasn’t strong enough to save her family, then she wouldn’t let a single villager escape her grasp a second time. And if she was lucky, the Crimson King would fall at the sound of her voice as well.

Jabberwocky is an adaptation from the poem written by Lewis Carroll first published 1871, portraying the tale that has lived for generations and more to come. It features authentic GameBoy graphics and sound, running completely under the limitations of the hardware itself. This adventure RPG game was designed and created for the Lost Cartridge Jam held by Astrojone in 3 days.

Aren't jabberwockies and wyverns basically the same thing?
Hardly, my friend.
Jabberwockies are sort of powerful songbirds with the ability to create unique sounds and auditory hallucinations. Their Jabberwocky form is much like a really fucked up Big Bird.
Wyvern, on the other hand, are huge dragons with thermal abilities and much longer life spans who may possibly be the dinosaurs of Wonderland.

Mun Plays Final Fantasy XIII
I’m much earlier than usual when it came to talking about my playthrough of FF13. And there’s a reason for that, part of it being that I was able to play earlier than usual. There’s also another reason, which I’m sure you already know what that reason is.
Okay, so in Orphan’s Cradle, I stopped off in Fal’Cie Eden White last time and today, I continued where I left off. I ran into a few problems with normal enemies, mainly when I had to fight three Dagonites and one Aquila Velocycle or one Aquila Velocycle and two Sacrifices, but I managed to emerge victorious. Continuing on, I found myself reaching the boss room, fighting Bandersnatch and Jabberwocky. I wanna say this right now, I am SO glad Bandersnatch doesn’t look like THIS fluffy nightmare fuel from Final Fantasy IX! However, I ended up losing the fight, partially because I struggled to deal decent damage. So I rearranged the party to include Sazh, Hope, and Vanille, since they were all about magic. And after a while of dealing damage, I learned the Jabberwocky could heal Bandersnatch to full health, so I switched focus onto Jabberwocky, occasionally taking breaks to heal, buff the party, and debuff the enemies. It took a while, but I managed to kill it with Bandersnatch falling shortly after with little trouble. Juggling also helped to keep the creature in line while I dished out magic damage.
Continuing on even further, I found myself up against an Immortal, which I was hesitant to fight at first, but my curiosity got the better of me. I switch Sazh out for Lightning and tackled the beast... only to lose. I ended up switching Vanille out for Fang and tried again, this time being even more cautious and focusing on the Centurion Blade whenever it came out. But I still got a game over when they used Electrocute, instantly taking Lightning out of the fight. I tried again, this time making sure to heal regularly and I eventually managed to win, especially thanks to Juggling the Immortal. I was also thankful for the Fortisol I applied just before the fight. After that, I went through the portal it was guarding and found some really good items before returning to the normal path. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place; fight Sacrifices and 4 Dagonites at once, or try to fight two Aquila Velocycles.
In the end, I chose the latter, but somehow managed to slip past them without a Deceptisol. Only to find myself having to deal with a Megrim Thresher and Sanctum Templar with no way to sneak around them. I ended up getting a game over or two before I managed to pull off a Preemptive Strike and take out the Templar with Fang tanking damage before turning my attention to the Thresher. However, just after that, I had to deal with a Megrim Thresher and two Sacrifices. I managed to get another Preemptive Strike and tried fighting the two Sacrifices before giving up (I didn’t get a game over, it just took a while and I was getting annoyed) and turning my attention to the Thresher, taking it out before easily cleaning up the Sacrifices. After that, I saved the game and did a few things before continuing on.
I fought the Wladislaus and it proved... quite easy. I just had Fang draw its attention while Lightning attacked and Hope healed. Sometimes, I had Fang go Saboteur for a moment to debuff Wladislaus and had Hope go Synergist, switching to something more defensive when someone got low. And the thing it, against Hope, it could easily take him out in two hits, taking him down to critical health with one blow. But once things were in place, Wladislaus fell very easily with Lightning attacking and Fang tanking.
In the next area, I just went on, just barely managing to squeeze past the enemies on the ramp upwards. Though I did fight the Wladislausm since it was easy enough the first time. But I was forced to fight the three Sanctum Templars. I managed to beat them, taking them out one by one before reaching the Tiamat Eliminator.
It took quite a while before I managed to make any progress, what with its Overdrive healing a good amount of health for it and buffing it. I eventually did a strategy I used early on; attack a few times with a Commando, then spam as much Ravager magic as possible to bring the Chain Bonus up. Though I mostly had Fang tank damage, I occasionally had her take the Commando while while Lightning and Hope went Ravager. Eventually, I managed to beat it, even though it took a few minutes.
With all the bosses defeated, I moved on, went down a sterile white hallway, saved the game once again and did a few things, and went through the door for the final fight. I also worked on everyone’s Crystariums except for Lightning’s, since I at least knew I would gain another Crystarium level after beating Barthandelus
And speaking of Barthandelus... I got a game over against him, so I switched Fang out for Vanille, so I could take a moment and just heal. I took some time off attacking to go defensive, having Lightning heal while Hope buffs and Vanille debuffs. When everyone was at a full or near-full health and if Barthandelus had Imperil, I would start attacking. Lightning deal some physical damage while the others healed before switching to the Tri-Disaster Paradigm and rack up Chain Bonuses, even occasionally using Lightning’s Army of One. It took a while, but I managed to beat him.
After he fell, I was surprised to see myself fighting Orphan already. Or rather, Barthandelus fused with Orphan. I was expecting a small reprieve and a chance to save or something before the next fight. My jaw nearly dropped when it used Merciless Judgment and almost instantly defeated Hope from full health, so I took time off to once again have Hope buff everyone while Lightning healed everyone and Vanille debuffed Orphan. While fighting it, I noticed that it was being healed by a small orb of light, though it wasn’t able to heal much. I had to be a bit more defensive when he summoned an orb of darkness that constantly attacked, but I eventually managed to win against that too.
After that... whew boy! I couldn’t believe Fang actually betrayed everyone, all to save Vanille. I was expecting to fight her... only to see everyone else sans Vanille turn Cie’th. And it was hard seeing Lightning and the others, now mindless Cie’th, just beating on Fang, who refused to fight back. And to suddenly see her turn into a Ragnarok-like creature, I thought this was the end, but she regained some sense of self. And yet, they weren’t done yet, torturting Fang by shocking her and healing her over and over again until Lightning and the others somehow managed to regain their minds and bodies. For a good while, I thought that was it, but no. All that remained was the Orphan Core (at least, I call it the Orphan Core).
And lucky me... Another Doom counter, but at least that one counted down slowly. But it didn’t matter, since I ended up getting a game over. I managed to Stagger Orphan, but when it recovered, Lightning was defeated. I thought I’d have to do all those bosses again, but no. I was given the chance to readjust my team if I so chose (I didn’t) and worked on Lightning’s Crystarium in hopes of getting a slight edge. When I tried again, things were WAY easier! I once again had Vanille and Hope perform their supportive abilities and after that, I used magic to quickly Stagger Orphan, then switched Lightning to the Commando role while Hope and Vanille remained as Ravagers. I defeated the boss in, like, less than a minute and got the Superstar Achievement, which is granted when you get 5 Stars against the final boss.
With all that finished, I relaxed and watched the final cutscene play out. It was something special, seeing Vanille and Fang forming Ragnarok together to save their friends and even turn to crystal to save Cocoon. Though my heart did break someone, as that means they won’t be able to enjoy the newfound peace with their friends. I sat back, reveling in my victory as the credits played, expecting some kind of post-credit cutscene, but nothing. I saved post-game and found myself plopped back in that white hallway before doubling back and returning to Orphan’s Cradle, where I decided to go to Edenhall, where I saved the game and turned it off.
All-in-all, FF13 was a really fun game. I’m okay with the linearity, since the series as a whole was always rather linear, but hidden by a few factors. If I had to pick a problem I had with the game, it’s certainly the Upgrade System and the weapons in general. Upgrading is a cool idea, but it’s very easy for the weapons you find early on to surpass any future weapons you find. Heck, most of the weapons I did during the final battle were the same ones I found very early in the game. Any weapons I found after had lackluster stats and I had no components to upgrade them, leaving me to not use them, even if they had good bonuses.
But yeah, FF13 was a REALLY good game and I had tons of fun with it, especially with it being a fast-paced RPG game where characters can switch their roles on a dime. And one of the best parts if that I never felt like I had to grind. Sure, there was a moment where I had to doubleback and fight a few enemies, but that was because I missed an ability that would prove helpful against an enemy. It was more my fault and even that, that was very late into the game. Truly, there is no such thing as a bad Final Fantasy game.
And even better, I finished the game just in time for KH3 to be released this upcoming Tuesday. I look forward to playing it and I look forward to eventually playing the FF13 sequels someday too. But right now? Not really. Next FF games I plan on playing are FF3 and FF5, both being on Steam. I won’t get them right now, but sometime down the line.

Nerd OC talk!
It's Holidays Time so let's get festive.
Does Tanit have a special tradition to celebrate her god? What does she do around Sun Festival, when everyone celebrates Pelor?
Does Helvi make a grand feast for Starlight? Who does she invite? What does she cook, since she is obviusly a great culinarian according to the culinarian job questline?
Back home Tanit usually hid in the dark and lit candles on that day, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she felt like dancing in the sunlit streets a little, she’s pretty curious about festivals of the living. As for celebrating her god, I’m sure once she learns to make the Heroes’ Feast, she’ll prepare one in the nearest graveyard and leave it for the dead. That’s how it was whe she lived with her grandpapa - on each equinox he would send his undead to hunt and gather anything relatively edible and then have them cook it all and leave it outside, in the desert. Next morning it was all gone. Tanit would join him in prayers, often composing her own ones - or songs - and then ran around the household, knocking on the lid of each coffin or sarcophagus, calling out to the dead to wake up and feast.
Helvi’s actually gonna spend a lot of gil on aetherytes, moving from one home to another, Ishgard first, because it’s been this festive for the first time in at least decades, so she helps decorating the city and visits the Fortemps estate for a dinner (Aymeric and the Haillenartes are invited too). Then Limsa, because she absolutely has to visit her aunt and uncle, along with Rhun, Arya and the twins, because auntie adores them all. And finally, playing Saint’s little helper in Uldah, because Nero has made a shitton of toys and Arianna has baked a cake again (and given her word it’ *fine* this time), so no child in the city will walk away empty-handed. Whew... There’s a lot to do, right? But Helvi doesn’t mind. She’s gonna bring grilled fish and cinnamon cookies. A Lot of cinnamon cookies <3
