My hellish trip
Aside from the quite imperfect start that it had, I also tried to do as many hell-related things as possible during this trip to Japan, in honour of the tour being called: "Who is this hell for?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, I couldn't go to Sapporo and not visit Jigokudani (hell valley) in Noboribetsu. They compare the landscape to something out of this world, like from Mars, and the sulfuric fumes remind us of hell's flames. That being said, having been spoiled on sulfur sources in Iceland super recently, I wasn't that impressed, except that Noboribetsu's had way more colours than Iceland's.
Then, I was able to stop in Aomori to visit Towada Art Center. Ever since I saw photos of her works online, I'd dreamt of seeing one in person. The art exhibited all around and inside the center are also more than worthwhile, but yeah, I'm in love with Memory of Water:

(Hellish because... Those are not happy memories of water hahah.)
Next, I caught in extremis an exhibition on Louise Bourgeois, famous for her Mother spider sculptures, but who, it turns out, had a lot of parallels with Kyo's mentality, I find. And she once said:

Not sure if that was exhaustive, but in such a short time, I think I stuck to the theme as much as I could. I guess, as for my personal hell, I also visited an exhibition by a woodcarver who recreates very realistic food as painted wood, which a ton of food might as well be in my case since I can't partake in it. Hopefully the other visitors felt 1% of my frustration.

Some doodles from the jigokudani monkey park. There were SO MANY FREAKIN MONKEYS. They moved too fast for my slow hands to really keep up though

Timpanist HCs…….perhaps……..
Sure thing ✨
He/it swag autist
My hc for what happened to his eye isn’t set in stone but my three personal proposals are 1) childhood injury from roughhousing/sibling rivalry going a bit too far 2) A fight sometime before or in the early days of the band and 3), one I’ve seen around a couple of times, accidentally stabbing himself trying to get his skewer-drumsticks ready.
He was in a ,, idk if I’ve got the right term for it but some sort of traditional salmonid music group before ω-3. And before that in his teenage years he was a part of a lab emo(?) band as the drummer. It only lasted for a couple of months before they disbanded due to … many reasons. Mainly fighting but also bc their guitarist was an Octoling training to be a soldier. She was on a half-educational trip into Salmonid territory, and had to return in September. He misses her a lot, even though they parted on some pretty shitty terms.
Third-oldest in a pretty big family. Many younger siblings. He’s a decent big brother but distance and how much time the band can take out of his day has mean he hasn’t visited in a while :(
Currently lives with the DJ. Maybe with the Cellist too but I think that may turn out a little crazy. Salmonids usually don’t live alone, and share living spaces with close family or peers . Most homes have at least two people, though it does depend on location and circumstance
Loves hearty, savory foods the most, but also really likes spicy things and can tolerate the heat well. While an occasional sweet treat is nice, he’s not really into super-sweet stuff and doesn’t eat sweets often.
Very resilient, both physically and mentally. It’s generally optimistic and not one to stress over the little things. Doesn’t get as easily angered as the other two, but will get really pissed and upset if whatever is said or done concerns something or someone really important to it.
The other two do really test his patience though. You can probably consider anything that comes out of the DJ’s mouth an exception to the above. The two bicker and while it’s mostly more light hearted the DJ has really angered him on a few occasions.
They’ve also physically fought each other before. At least once.

神奈川県
Japanese Prefectures: Kantō - Kanagawa
都道府県 (とどうふけん) - Prefectures of Japan
Learning the kanji and a little bit about each of Japan’s 47 prefectures!
Kanji・漢字
神 かみ、かん~、こう~、シン、ジン、か gods, mind, soul
奈 いかん、からなし、ナ、ナイ、ダイ Nara
川 かわ、セン stream; river
県 ケン prefecture
関東 かんとう Kanto, region consisting of Tokyo and surrounding prefectures
Prefectural Capital (県庁所在地) : Yokohama (横浜市)
Tumblr media
Kanagawa Prefecture is located just south of Tokyo. It is home to many day trip destinations from Tokyo, including the cities of Kamakura and Hakone. The prefectural capital of Yokohama on the Pacific coast is Japan's second largest city and its major port, including many multicultural influences such as a China Town and the Minato Mirai building. The port areas are also major centres of bonito and tuna fishing. Inland, Kanagawa has a flourishing agricultural area producing flowers and dairy products for the Tokyo market.
Recommended Tourist Spot・おすすめ観光スポット The Great Buddha of Kamakura - 鎌倉大仏
Tumblr media
The Great Buddha of Kamakura (source)
At the Buddhist temple Kotoku-in (高徳院) in Kamakura stands the 11-metre tall 13th-century bronze statue of Amida Buddha. Initially housed in a wooden hall, it was restored in the Edo period (1603-1868) after being damaged over the years by typhoons and earthquakes and now towers over the grounds of the temple. The Great Buddha of Kamakura is the second largest seated Buddha in Japan.
After you visit the Great Buddha, you can also find other Zen Buddhist temples, which are among the oldest and most beautiful in the country, and most in walking distance from each other. Enoshima and the Kamakura beaches are also nearby.
Regional Cuisine - 郷土料理 Kuro-tamago (Black eggs) - 黒卵 (くろたまご)
Tumblr media
Kuro-tamago or Black eggs (source)
It may seem strange, but this popular souvenir from the Owakudani (大涌谷 or Great Boiling Valley) in the resort town of Hakone in Kanagawa Prefecture gets its distinctive black color from being boiled in natural hot spring water for 60 minutes at a temperature of 80°C, then steamed at 100°C for 15 minutes in steel baskets over natural hot spring water. The natural hot spring water contains sulfur and iron, thus turning the egg shells black. The Kuro-tamago, or Black Eggs, have a slight sulfur smell (although the whole valley has this smell so you might not notice). They are safe to eat and are said to add 7 years to your lifespan! (You shouldn't eat more than two at one time though, as the lifespan elongating effects will then be nullified, or you might just feel slightly sick).
Owakudani is an active volcanic valley that is known to locals as Jigokudani (地獄谷 or Valley of Hell) due to the sulfurous volcanic gasses and steam from the natural hot spring waters. There are many resorts nearby in Hakone which tap into these natural hot springs. The valley was formed due to the last eruption of Mt Hakone about 3,000 years ago. On clear days, you have a great view of Mt Fuji. There is also a ropeway that will take you over the active volcanic area, but sometimes it can be closed when the volcanic activity picks up and the volcanic gasses increase, so check before you visit.
