Saw someone justify Izzy’s death as “his entire purpose was Edward and Ed was leaving. So he needed to die”.

Or maybe s3 Izzy’s arc could have been him finding himself outside of Ed - as Ed has been able to do???? But noooooooo let’s just killing at the end of the season for The Drama of it all

Yeah, I mean, the first season is a little of Izzy being defined by and for his relationship with Edward (although obviously with a lot of resistance to that and you can see him struggling with that role).

But in S2, I mean... Why create all these new relationships for him to define himself by, to establish him as a very eager protector of others when he's shown even small amounts of care in return? Why make such a thing of Ed continuously going off on his own and trying to be independent?

I don't know, like... As I was saying before, what's frustrating about Izzy's death even if I wasn't invested in Izzy is that like... Almost pointlessly, his death overshadows so many other characters' arcs and their relationships, and that includes Ed and Stede's!

I would be curious if DJ's tweet when he was upset about being criticised, about "there's no show without Izzy Hands," is because instead of planning to resurrect him with the Buttons implication, is that they plan to have Izzy following Ed as a ghost to parallel Stede's Nigel issues, which like.

Would be pretty fucking stupid, honestly. Especially because they brought in fucking Hornigold just to toss away everything of use with his character.

Yeah, it's annoying. OFMD has always had its flaws and been a bit messy, but S2 is obviously so much worse than S1 and seems to toss away a lot of its philosophy of kindness but also just... throws away so much of the stuff that makes it great and different to other shows? Such is life, I guess.

sorry to vent but let me just say how annoyed i am right now. i've unfollowed the twd account everywhere because, well, no need to explain the reasons why, but yesterday i decided to read the comments on a rare tweet about Carol and i was so disappointed at the amount of hate and mocking tweets. i just can't take it anymore. i mean it's exhausting to fight people hating on her for no reason and i fear this might affect the promotion as well! what do you think about that? i mean why can't people just avoid what they do not like? why do they feel the urge to be edgy? i've read jokes about sophia, izzie, henry, laurent... i'm tired of this fandom

Female characters are always held to a much higher standard than their male counterparts. Men can be flawed, complicated and morally gray, but women have to be perfect. Unattainably so. I find Carol fascinating and relatable because she struggles. I don't want her to be perfect—perfect characters are boring, and just like a good story needs tension and conflict to drive the action, good character development needs an arc. It has to 'take a turn' before it gets somewhere. As a character, Carol more than provides.

Like you said, problems arise when people with whom she doesn't resonate keep commenting in a negative way. It fosters a toxic fandom, and perpetuates sexism and ageism. The spinoff isn't about Carol—this season might focus more on her, but as the title tells us, it's not her show and TPTB have been treating the larger TWD pool of viewers as their target demographic. That invites this behavior. The anti-Carol part of the audience sees something they don't want and are vocal about it, in a destructive/abusive way. That could be one reason why AMC hits so hard on the 'best buds' aspect of the messaging.

Part of it is that there's clearly competing agendas in the promotion and a different strategy is employed by the studio/network vs. the non-acting EPs. The relationship among executive producers on a show isn't equal; it's based on function within the production and what kind of deal the individual EP struck with the studio. There's usually a lot of internal politics and jockeying for power going on within ranks. Like any other workplace, I'd imagine. It's competitive (the job market is particularly harsh right now) and from what I can see, these particular EPs are trying to position themselves in a way that ensures their continued livelihood.

The acting EPs are "safe" because they're the face of the franchise, so pay attention to the discrepancies in how they position the characters and plot arcs in comparison to the N/A EPs. Who and what actors hype during the promo circuit is tied to their work environment. From the looks of it, Gimple is trying to make some power moves to ensure his continued relevance to the franchise (which is a whole other ugly discussion—I have plenty of thoughts on that photoshoot at Tribeca lol) and the way in which Norman and Melissa position Zabel when talking about the plot arcs and character development suggests that they're attempting to block Gimple from reaching his goals.

When whatever's going on backstage has settled, one way or another, the audience should see a more cohesive approach to the promotion.

when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom?

december 14, 2021, when i decided to binge what my twitter mutuals have been hyping about on my tl for weeks.

i had been on a hiatus prior to that, having just been suffering from julie and the phantoms brainrot, that it surprised me that my old fandom mutuals were moving on collectively to another show. so many tweets analyzing and raving about the show caught my attention because i'm all about those, those are my cup of tea, especially the night of episode 5 airing. i watched a clip of the rooftop scene and i wanted to know why they were crying and why one of them walked away, so i had it on my watchlist. i was still busy with schoolwork though so i didn't get to actually start watching until two weeks later, four days after episode 7 aired (hence 12/14/21) at 10 PM with my sheets pulled up. it was me and my phone against the world.

yes i made it worse because that week was my finals—but to my defense, to my defense, i had already finished half of it and was close in finishing the other half of my exams.

joined the fandom like not even an hour later after i binged 1-7 because i came on twitter and was met with a warm welcome.

favorite ship(s)

patpran and inkpa. i have my fair share of liking rare pairs (clary and izzy from shadowhunters tv, riley and farkle from girl meets world, quinn and rachel from glee) but for shows like these, nah. haha the main pairs really do it for me.

favorite character(s)

pat - mans was so relatable. sexually fluid, thought he had a crush on his different-gendered friend but turned out to be in love with someone who is of the same gender who was right in front of him the whole time. became closer to different-gendered friend after confessing to them i'm totally not projecting haha what do you man

ink - ah, ink nolastname my beloved. introduced as a red herring but ended up having her own sapphic love story?? no other girl in a bl could ever.

junior - i thought he'd just be a one-episode side character but him serving the story in multiple ways got to me. he felt like patpran's child which is so cute, but also a representation of the freedom patpran's own kid selves could have had.

favorite episode(s)

3 - falls under the romcom formula of pat just following pran around like a dumb oblivious puppy and while we the audience are attuned to pran's perspective, once you rewatch episode 3, you realize how much pat has not been lying about how he feels for both pran and ink and that his behavior says it all.

5 - do you even need to ask. i'm pat-biased so him speedrunning his sexuality was so funny and so devastating at the same time.

10 - some people have said that i'm a masochist for this one. but in all seriousness when i first watched it (which was via iWant and not YouTube, so i had no interruptions of 4 parts and got to watch all four parts immediately and earlier than everyone else because if you didn't know back when it was airing, the premiering of the parts would have an interval of around 5-15 minutes each) it felt so long and advanced the plot the most. it had all: inkpa getting together, patpran being adorable annoying bfs, and learning about their generational trauma. yikes! i loved the angst of it all.

one thing you would change about the show if you could

just one??? i mean haha sure...

the whole plot of wai getting mad at pran and how they resolved it. like come on man, the best friend hates when one lies to the other trope is so lame and overused. it's not just pat getting shot, it was the whole thing of the archi gang being unfairly mad without bothering to learn about why he lied. if they didn't feel like side characters then who are just there to put external conflict and less like actual friends who got hurt from the secret, they certainly acted most like it in episode 9.

what are your some of your favorite fanworks made by other people?

i made a fanfic recommendation thread and i have a couple of bbs edits saved in all of tiktok, instagram, and twitter, but if i had to really narrow it down, that'd be tough. hmm.

gif - i search @pranpats' pat breaking silently post every few months to make myself cry whenever i need a good one. my baby boy my baby boy i love him so much. i tuck him in bed and give him nong nao. btw the sharpening of this gif made pat's tears so much clearer and i want to hurl myself off of a balcony thanks.

fic - from the tide by fruti2flutie is a popular fanfic but it deserves the hype. i was blown away by its character dynamics and style of writing that i wrote an original story inspired from its worldbuilding/power system for my fiction workshop class. the river can't go back by unsungyellowraincoat is poetic heaven.

art - last one to propose loses by cubedmango + rooftop wedding by @thatgothsamurai = my our skyy actually.

animatic - Ur SOUL Ur BodY by RENii•EXE has so many shots that made me question my entire existence, namely pran pressing pat's hand into the bedsheets (0:41). it's so good. 10/10.

animation - I am not your ocean anymore by @architectxengineer is incredible. watching this broke my heart in the best possible way. the visual of how pran and pat stumble into their room in episode 11 is such a cute scene to fill the gap of.

edit - mae's safety net is a personal favorite because it was first uploaded on my birthday, i could never get tired of it as i kept watching it for months on end, and then there was that time it was archived on mae's instagram but she was kind enough to unarchive it for me (alongside her other incredible bbs edits!) huhu ily. and then another objectively well-made one is 7 things by mic that is deservedly popular on twitter, not to mention the very intentional use of colors from all of pran's markers/color pencils! HOW. COOL. IS. THAT.

text - In Fair Verona by @shortpplfedup is an analysis/commentary scenepost series that i fell in love with and tuned into as the episodes aired. it details the main romeo and juliet allegory as well as points out its differences. it's so so pretty and insightful and a delight to read. read all of it, guys. please.

visual edit - among all my photo edits, my untranslatable words one almost made it here but i gotta hand it to my bad idea storyboard. if i could only draw, i would have animated the shit out of this tbh.

video edit - all the stars kind of flopped in reception which was a bummer considering no one knows i spent an embarrassingly long time working on it (...9 hours) but now you do haha.

fanfic - the rest are drabbles anyway so i don't even think this can count as a favorite if it's only one lmao but it's my Teen Wolf AU anamnesis (28k, 4 chapters, fin). really enjoyed the season 6 binge for educational purposes :DD and writing pranink, pranpa, patink, and the jindapat siblings was one of the best parts. my true ot4.

other - i wrote something about patpran that was not prose. it's post velum (which is latin for behind the curtain, the name of the novel) and it's poetry about each episode of bad buddy + our skyy. oh and my patpran as percabeth series that i mostly only did for like,, two people.

a taylor swift song feels like cheating because every ship can be associated to a taylor swift song but still. daylight is perfect. i once believed love would be burning red? pre-relationship patpran. the rivalry is so fiery that they thought they wouldn't have the space to be soft. but it's golden. established relationship patpran. they are the healthiest teenaged boyfriends ever. their relationship endures for years and glows.

i don't really agree with thinking bad buddy is the perfect show and that it had the perfect ending. i still understand the direction and the decision to go with those and other more questionable choices, but i like recognizing the show's flaws. tons and tons of it. from the technicalities of production to the actual writing. especially knowing the show's behind the scenes and what happened from the mock trailer's official announcement and the gp's initial (horrible) reception, to this show finally airing and its first four episodes being in the trenches when it comes to ratings (haha the bbs nugu era), to the ending of episode 5 breaking the internet to the point of being recognized in the following gmmtv 2022 presscon, then to the steep rise to the peak.

...especially knowing those made me love the show more inside out. tldr; i'm a "bad buddy is a very flawed show and i love it" type of person.

this reminds me distinctly of a argument i got into on Twitter Dot Com about izzy over disability (hold on with me here i have a point to make).

i stated in the tweet thread for context that im disabled myself, and briefly mentioned some things i struggle with in it, including that i have some disabilities that are visible to others most of the time, as i have to use mobility devices to get around, and that i also have invisible disabilities that impact my life as equally.

in the tweets, i was addressing that the character izzy is not the sole disabled character of the show, and that many other characters have both visible and invisible disabilities, and that actors in the show are disabled and for characters like wee john, their disability is worked into the show to accomodate for them. i made it clear that the point of the discussion is that it's unfair to the other characters to call izzy "the disabled character" of the show, or to claim he died directly because he's disabled in an act of ableism.

in return, i had not only a flood of people making remarks that belittled me as if i were just a talking head, but a significant fan of izzy's character made a multi-tweet thread specifically belittling me and my disabilities, implying that the character they enjoy is actually the disabled person they should be highlighting, and implying that i was nothing more than someone woe-is-me-ing over being disabled and the other disabled characters aren't disabled enough for them to be counted. it was detailed to a point that i was put into a position where i felt the need to make a separate post outlining how exactly i am disabled, information that i feel is above and beyond upsetting to have to share in order to validate others ability to even see me as worthy of respect.

which entirely became this idea that a disabled person talking to them became nothing more than a spectacle, but a character played by an able bodied man was instead a fully fleshed out person.

there's this pervasive concept in online spaces that if a character has XYZ trait and you are a fan of them, then you have say in matters of said trait regardless of whether or not you have that yourself. that when a person who lives with said trait tells you you're being harmful to others with a trait, you're justified to treat the other person as a talking point rather than an actual person.

this wasn't a discussion of whether or not a character had a disability or if his life was impacted by it, but rather an ask of empathy for disabled people overall. the fact that asking for empathy for disabled people was responded to with direct ableism against the disabled speaker was. well...

dehumanizing, to say the least

It's really fucked up when you treat characters like people and people like characters.

still not thrilled with the jane/j-borg stuff. i mean today, it wasn’t unbearable, but definitely still not my cup of tea.

im interested in the garcia family dynamic. i have a couple of theories on how the dynamic came to be, but am having trouble fleshing them out atm. but it’s odd to me the warden is so adversed to music, but not sports. like, in terms of carer prospects, they’re both hard industries to break into (without connections), but once you get that momentum, you can become very successful. maybe it’s a personal thing he takes out on javi? well, this won’t be the last time this dynamic is focused on.

has power rangers ever done a plot where a parent/child are at adversity with each other? i know lightspeed, but that was because of brainwashing. i guess devon in beast morphers it the closest, but this one feels different. idk

i have mixed feelings on the main plot. i like it because i can relate a lot to it, but the climax was weak. 

i finally realized my problem with this episode after reading this tweet : javi never opens up. zayto, ollie, and amelia find out the problem through a video, which kind of negates the point of the episode. we know javi is more quiet and reserved, and (from personal experience), opening up is a struggle (for a variety of reasons, usually situational). the thing is, the flaw of his character was never challenged as he didn’t have to confront his problem, the video did it for him. instead of having the scene of javi after izzy gets hurt, i think it should’ve been him actually opening up instead.

speaking of that scene after izzy got hurt, when i first saw it in the teaser, i was kind of upset because i thought it would take the focus away from javi. i think it actually worked well, but i don’t think it was necessary (at least for this episode). i know they are trying to establish that there is tension between javi and his dad, but i think that has been established enough up to this point, that the scene could’ve been replaced with something more relevant to this episode (like javi actually opening up to zayto, ollie, and amelia). it’s not like it was out of place or anything, but this scene is pretty “generic” in that it could’ve been placed in another episode (where relevant) and still make sense. the only thing that it added was javi pushing away the team, which is important to the plot, but has been established already. 

edit : i think this episode was better at balancing all the characters. of course the episode was javi centric, but the others were still actively present. 

i think that’s it. i think im upset this episode didn’t hit because i was really looking forward to it, and it wasn’t what i expected. that’s kind of my problem, i guess. anyway, i would like to conclude with this tweet i found that isn’t mine

YES!! YES!!! THAT'S EXACTLY IT!!!!!!! and like u said not only spn and not even just in white dude shows, i see this tendency very clearly even - or maybe especially - in shows that actually are diverse

it's the same thing with tog fandom the obsession with bi booker (the one relevant character other than the straight up villains who is actually straight-coded lmao) despite the fact that tog has a canon queer couple and two heavily queer coded characters, plus a black woman with no hints to her sexuality/gender identity that could be hced as queer just as well, yet never is. and the bi booker hc thing gets to the point where i've seen "tog + text posts" style posts and others where booker was the oNLY character to get queer-related posts. the ONLY one. despite us having FOUR actually queer characters. f o u r. and him being the only one who has absolutely nothing pointing to queerness

or with sh fandom and that infamous "sh pride edits" post that gave more attention to the straight characters than the canonically queer ones, lmao, going as far as literally not mentioning the canon wlw to focus on clary and jace, who are very obviously straight in-text, and other minor white straight characters (the straight characters of color obviously didn't get the same treatment as their white counterparts). or the hype over latino alec, who is very obviously white, and that literally ignores headcanoning, like, izzy and maryse, the ones actually played by woc at least, as latinas as well. and of course i'm not even gonna mention how the actual latino characters are treated by the same people who nut all over themselves at the idea of latino alec. and we all know that, as racist as sh is, screen time has nothing to do with this, cuz lack of screen time never stopped this fandom from obsessing with lydia, max, or underhill, all characters that have considerably less screen time than raphael. and i'm pretty sure max and underhill have less screen time than even bat. i mean, for starters, bat had an actual struggle shown on-screen. neither of the other three can say the same

or the b99 fandom which (problematics of the show aside) loves and adores the idea of bi jake, but rarely ever talks about rosa, the canon bi character. or even the canon gay couple, which one would expect would get a lot of attention, yet is rarely mentioned 

and i could go on, but my point is that yes, even in fandoms for pieces of media that actually are diverse (with varying degrees of handling that diversity well) the fandom as a rule always picks the ones that aren't to obsess with and project diversity unto, even queer fans. and it's so obvious and plain to see it's honestly almost insulting

A/N: This is another experimental piece; it’s an AU - everything is the same, albeit the fact that everyone has wings and can transform into birds. I will be answering questions in my ask box if anyone has any (please do send some in, it can help me clear up the lore a little better in my own mind while I’m writing!). Summers in Lafayette were almost always too warm. It made it impossible to do anything under the sweltering heat, and being forced to sit indoors for six hours a day never helped, either. Most of the things you were taught in school were useless, anyway, and any questions of why were always shrugged off with sighs and eyerolls.

It was official. You were going to be bored to death.

A flash of muddy yellow passed the window, and you perked up, tilting your head as you craned your neck to try and see the culprit – and of course it was William. You shook your head when his face appeared at the window, lips curled into a mischievous grin as he held up a packet of cigarettes. His hair clung to his face, and there was a streak of mud across his forehead; he’d obviously been digging again. Which probably meant that Jeff was somewhere near him – out of the three of you, Jeff was quite clearly the better digger. You supposed it made sense, considering he was a burrowing owl, but it was rare for him to indulge in William’s habits, and you flinched when William started to motion for you to join him outside.

It was difficult for you to say no to him; it always was. Even when you were both still chicks, with your wings only being covered in soft featherdown, William caused trouble and you were dragged into it with him. The only other chick that followed had been Jeff, but that was when he had dared to even appear from little burrows he used to dig in his mother’s garden. After another minute of William motioning for you to join him, you sighed and threw your hand in the air to catch your teacher’s attention. After a moment of almost begging the man with your eyes to allow you to use the bathroom, you grabbed the most inconspicuous parts of your belongings and hurried out. As soon as the door to the classroom was shut behind you, you shook your head and arms before closing your eyes and focused on shifting.

Most people used to tell horror stories about the first Spirits, the first changers. They used to say that their bones snapped in half, that their noses would stretch like Pinocchio and would contort into a beak, but to you, it wasn’t like that. It was a calming experience, with the only sensations being soft tingling as your body contorted into a small bundle of feathers. After lifting your belongings with your small feet, you fluttered down the hallway and through a slightly opened window, before you glanced around for William. The faint sound of tweeting caught your attention, and you flew towards it before you landed beside William. He merely stopped whistling and looked down at you with a mischievous grin, and you just knew that look spelled trouble. Evidently, you weren’t going to be going back into school for the rest of the day. After a moment, you rolled your eyes and changed back before you slapped William upside the head with a wing.

“Hey! What was that for?” He laughed, quickly ducking to avoid another slap. His deft hands quickly opened the small carton in his grasp before he offered a cigarette to you, his eyes twinkling with what could only be honestly described as mischief.

“You could’ve really warned me at the beginning of the school day, you know,” you bemoaned, but accepted the cigarette he offered and swiped the lighter from his pocket. You lit it as you leaned against him and sighed in bliss as his wing wrapped around you, the loose flecks of dirt tickling your nose, which made you wrinkle your nose.

“It was kinda impromptu. The old man left his cigarettes on the counter, and I figured they’d be the only way to bribe a certain owl out of his pit,” he muttered back, and you startled a little at just how deep his voice suddenly was. It wasn’t like you hadn’t expected it, but when he was singing with such a high pitch, it was only normal to expect his talking voice to be high. After a moment to recollect your thoughts, you rolled your eyes playfully and nudged him before you took a drag of the cigarette you held.

“Besides, aren’t you going to help me disturb the great and mighty Jeffrey from his pit?”

“I don’t like being disturbed,” a grumble emerged from the burrow before you, and a pair of grey eyes appeared within the darkness, a grimace painted on his features. A streak of dirt also graced his face, and you merely smiled before you offered the cigarette. After a moment of eyeing you suspiciously, a pale hand reached out and swiped the cigarette from your grasp, the lit end allowing you to see his face clearer, if only for a moment.

The three of you remained in silence while Jeff finished his cigarette, neither you or William wanting to disturb him. Ever since the three of you had discovered cigarettes, it rapidly became a past time for the three of you to just sit and enjoy each other’s company. As soon as the last drag was taken, Jeff climbed out of his burrow and sat in front of you and William, flicking the cigarette butt over his shoulder lazily while he stretched his wings out. He yawned and scratched his nose, but he clearly was prepared to actually have a conversation with the pair of you. You did consider just how in the hell Jeff hadn’t been removed from the school yet, your brow quirking at the thought. William’s parents would have a fit if they heard just what he had been doing exactly, and your own parents would be similar.

But Jeff’s? Well, they had more on their mind, you supposed.

“Are you seriously still trying to dye your feathers?”

“It’s a shitty yellow colour, man.”

“Will. C’mon. Dirt isn’t going to suddenly scare the yellow off.”

William rolled his eyes and you leaned back on your hands, quietly watching the interaction between the two boys with what could only be described as amusement. It was a daily conversation the two boys had, and yet it always ended in the same way. William would undoubtedly have some sort of fit, Jeff would roll his eyes and retreat into his burrow, and you would be left trying to calm the canary down. You sighed and braced yourself for William to lose his temper, but it never came. You dared a glance at Will and blinked at the pout on his face, only he never actually fought back against Izzy’s words; it was almost like he’d… Given up.

“I know. It still doesn’t mean I can’t try. Besides, lay off, would you? You’d think you were my old man, with the amount of bitching you’re doing at me,” he grumbled, his face contorting more into a grimace as he crossed his arms, before he sighed and looked back at the sky, leaning back as he pressed his wings against his back. Jeff merely raised a brow before he heaved a sigh and retreated back into his burrow, only to reappear with a small handful of dirt before he clambered behind you and William. After a moment, he sighed and shoved the dirt into William’s feathers, effectively hiding the colour of his feathers. Almost instinctively, William relaxed and allowed his wings to flutter a little, his hand reaching out to grasp your hand gently. Quietly, you wrapped your fingers around his and tightened your grasp, your eyes meeting his.

“… I’m leaving.”

“What?” You released William’s hand and turned to face Jeff with a look of shock, your eyebrows raised as your mouth hung open.

“I’m leavin’. As soon as we graduate, I’m skippin’ town, and I’m goin’ to LA,” he muttered, his brows furrowed as he focused on scrubbing the dirt into William’s wings, his tongue poking out from between his lips. Eventually, he sat back and moved to sit back in the entrance of his burrow, crossing his legs as he watched you and William.

“LA? As in, Los Angeles?” William questioned, his own brows furrowed as he grabbed your hand again, although you suspected that he was far less bothered about the news in comparison to you. William had always talked about leaving Lafayette, ever since you both were old enough to comprehend just what the word leaving meant. No doubt, he’d beg Izzy to take him with him.

“Yeah. Don’t you wanna come with me, Will? We can actually join a band. We can do something we wanna do,” Jeff’s eyes were alight with a sudden fire, his lips curled into a smile. It was a sight for sore eyes, and you struggled to remember a time when Jeff had last smiled in such genuine way. It was… Relieving. Almost. It still hadn’t changed the fact that Jeff was suddenly talking about leaving – and there was the chance Will would go with him. You weren’t prepared for such drastic changes, not when you were so close to graduating from high school.

“I… I can’t.”

You startled at his words, and you quickly looked at him with wide eyes. His lips had curved downward, and he was staring at his lap while fiddling with the loose hem of his shirt. He sighed softly through his nose and shook his head before he dared to look back up at Jeff, teasing his lower lip between his teeth. Evidently, he wanted to say otherwise, but it seemed like he was being held back by something; and you could only suppose that something was his family.

“What do you mean, you can’t?” Jeff hissed, his eyes narrowed as he leaned forward, his lips curling to expose his teeth.

“I can’t, man. Amy needs me, and-“

“So what, all this bitchin’ about how you wanna get out of this shitty ass town was for nothin’?”

“That’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is-“

“Okay, that’s enough,” you interrupted, and you sat straighter when both boys turned to glare at you. It was rare for you to interrupt their bickering, as you always claimed you were far more mature than they were and just didn’t want to lower yourself to their level. But this time, you couldn’t stand to listen to Jeff lose his temper with Will for something that was, in your eyes, valid.

“It’s bullshit, Y/N! You know that it is! He keeps talking about how he can’t wait to leave, and yet he’s now sayin’ he can’t go when I’m offering him a way out?” Jeff snapped, and you flinched back at the murderous glare in his eyes. For once, you understood why the younger kids in school avoided Jeff’s burrows – even when he’d long since abandoned them – and you merely closed your eyes to recollect your thoughts. Once you’d managed to find the courage to continue your argument, you opened your eyes and realised it was already too late.

William scrunched up his nose and glared at Jeff before he turned. It always was slightly amusing that William, a guy with such a loud personality, was such a small bird – but you stifled your look of amusement as you watched him fly off, his small body still covered in the dust and grime that he’d scrubbed into his feathers.

“Fuck him.”

“Jeff, you can’t say that.”

“Yes, I can. Fuck. Him. Y/N, you’re coming to LA with me, right?”

You hesitated, and idly brought one hand to your wing as you scratched at the feathers nervously, your mind running in overdrive. What would you lose if you did go with him? It’d be hard, sure. The pair of you barely had any experience working, but deep down, you knew that Jeff would take care of you. He always had. After a moment of staring at each other, you sighed and nodded, reaching out to take his filthy hand into yours.

“Okay.”

That had been nearly a year ago. A year since you’d decided to up and leave Lafayette, with barely anything but the savings your parents had hoped you’d use for college and some clothing. And Jeff. Well, he’d announced his name was Izzy on the way to LA, in the cab of his barely-running pickup that his mother had given him, his eyes glinting with a light that could only be described as pride.

You left behind a lot of things, and yet you felt the guiltiest about leaving Will behind. He had come to bid you farewell, his hair tied back in a bun as his face was set in a grimace in an attempt to hide his tears, but he and Jeff – Izzy – barely looked at each other, let alone dared to say another word to each other. It was almost like the two had just given up on their friendship, and it took everything in you to not slam their heads together in the hopes their common sense would return. Instead, you’d merely hugged him and promised to keep in touch – which he had accepted with a sniff and a nod of the head.

LA was everything you had dreamed of, and more. It was loud, it was busy, and it was so much more different than Lafayette – and you loved it. Izzy seemed to be at home, with his style and music rapidly adapting and evolving to fit into the scene that the pair of you had found yourselves in. Your apartment was barely an apartment – it was a single room that you used as a bedroom, kitchen and living room, with the bathroom pretty much being nothing but a tiny room that may as well be a wardrobe. But it was enough for the pair of you, and it wasn’t too hard for you to find a job that could help bring in at least some money.

It was nothing much more than working as a cashier in the local gas station, but it was enough. Izzy, however, kept his employment to himself. Whenever you questioned him on it, he merely shrugged and grabbed his car keys before leaving you alone on the couch. You supposed that maybe he had been doing something illegal, which immediately caused you to become alarmed at the concept. Whenever he was late, you would sit and pick at your wings, letting feathers drop around you as you allowed yourself to worry about what could’ve happened to Izzy. He could’ve been arrested. Or worse.

You looked up quickly at the sound of Izzy’s keys in the door, and sure enough, he stepped in, a cigarette placed delicately between his teeth. He merely winked at you when he noticed your presence before he kicked the door shut behind him, dropping his wallet on the side table. He dropped down beside you and leaned back with a sigh, closing his eyes.

“… Long day?” You asked softly as you turned to look at him, reaching out to gently scratch at his wings. He merely hummed and took a drag of his cigarette before he quirked a brow, his lips curving into a smirk before he stood and offered the cigarette to you. You took it, and took a drag before you laughed a little as a pillow was thrown your way – Izzy was clearly going to build a burrow with the multitudes of pillows and blankets he had collected. While LA was a jungle of buildings, there was no room for digging burrows. Not for an owl like Izzy. And it took its toll on him when he was stressed, so the pair of you had taken to making a burrow out of the pillows and blankets. It happened rarely now, but at times it had gotten too much for him.

Once he was satisfied with what he constructed, he climbed into the burrow with you and wrapped you close, his wings securely bundling you against his chest. You offered the cigarette to him again, and he quietly leaned forward to take a drag, his eyes fluttering closed. After a moment, he exhaled and rested his head on yours, his fingers running down your wings gently.

“… Got a call today,” he eventually murmured after about an hour of silent cuddling, and you shifted to look up at him quietly.

“Will… Well, his name’s Axl now. He’s comin’.”

“To LA?”

“Yeah. Guess his old man got sick of him and kicked him out.”

You hummed softly and yawned, before you smiled. William was coming – and that meant that it was going to be just like it was in your childhood; the three of you against the world.

“I wonder if he still scrubs dirt into his feathers,” Izzy mused, and he snorted softly at the thought. You rolled your eyes as you reached out to stub the cigarette into the ashtray nearby. It was almost soothing to think about, and you allowed yourself to be pulled more against Izzy’s chest as you yawned again, your eyes slowly drifting shut.

You supposed you could interrogate Izzy about why he was late in the morning.

Peter and the guys have big dreams to be rock stars, you couldn’t be a bigger fan of theirs. But your dad’s got a different path for your future, one that doesn’t include Peter and his band. But can Fame and dreams coming true really keep the two of you apart? Is this just a high school love? Or will you make it through the struggle of chasing your dreams?

Y/N (Cold, Sweet Reality)

You shove the books into the open locker, when someone calls your name. You look up Peter and Steve are running at you, dodging students.

“Guess?!” Peter is waving something. You laugh, shutting the locker. Senior year had started, and the band had started to take off. Peter and Steve reach you, both talking at once, you wave your hands laughing.

“One at a time boys.” You laugh.

“They want us to come in a do a demo!” They shout together.

“What?” You blink at them.

“Stark Productions wants to meet with us!” Peter waves the paper at you. You take it scanning it over, you press your lips together, at the bottom of the page you knew the name, the signature. You grin up at them happy for them.

“You’re going to blow them away.” You throw your arms around Peter’s neck, he scoops you up crushing you to his chest.

You storm through the front door of the house, you throw your school bag down, before you burst into the living room where your parents are sitting.

“How could you?!” You shout.

“Punk.” Your father sighs.

“You brought Uncle Tony into this?! Are you trying to rip their dream out from under them!?” You yell. “Why are you so cruel daddy?!” Your voice filling the living room.

“Your uncle actually liked the songs, saw a few videos on your social media. I just passed along their names.” Your father sighs.

“Bullshit daddy! You want him gone. You know Uncle Tony won’t wait till they graduate! He’ll be gone, and you’ll get your precious little girl back!” You shake your head, knowing his hand in this was for his own gain.

“You knew if the boys got an opportunity they would be gone. You can’t have it both ways.” He stares at you.

“I can if I go with.” You challenge him.

“You go with and their chance goes out the window. That’s the deal I made Tony.” The truth comes to light.

“Phil.” Your mom looks surprised.

“I hate you.” You shake your head, the tears streaming down your face.

“Y/N!” Your father yells after you as you leave the room.

“It was okay for mom to be a groupie, but not for me?” You turn on your father who followed you. “She didn’t go to college, but I have too? What if I don’t want more, daddy?! What if I just want what you and mom have?” You shake your head.

“You’re going to go to school.” He replies slowly and calm.

“Leave and don’t come back daddy. I will never speak to you again.” You turn walking out of the house again.

Peter (Signing a Deal with the Devil)

She cried till she fell asleep after yelling and cursing her father, her uncle, the demo deal. The deal her father made with her uncle Tony including keeping her from going with them. He texted the guys in their band group chat, while she slept silently on his chest, buried under all the blankets he had on his bed. The guys took the news about how he did, shocked, floored, and most of all pissed off. They agreed on a band meeting, if he could slip out without waking Y/N.

“What the hell does this mean?” Buck paces the garage they practice in.

“Means her dad wants us as far apart as he can get us.” Peter drops his head into his hands, sitting on the crate.

“We could get in with another producing company.” Sam tries.

“Stark would have us ruined for turning down a deal from him.” Steve points out. “Besides you don’t think her dad has ties to other producers?” Steve drops back into the couch, with a groan.

“Isn’t her mom a groupie? Is that how they met?” Buck stops moving looking over at him.

“Yeah, met in some hole in the wall before the band took off.” He shrugs, sighing.

“So why the fuck is it so bad she’s with a guy in a band when they were the exact same way?” Sam asks.

“Because of the scandal.” Her voice is soft and she’s standing in the door of the garage in his sweatpants and sweatshirt. “Everything is media now days, social, news. Back in the day it was just word of mouth, so my dad never had to worry about my mom getting hurt. Now the reason she tours with them is because of the scandal, another woman claiming to be pregnant by my dad.” She shrugs, shuffling into the garage.

“Holy shit.” Steve blinks at her.

“It was everywhere, my mom didn’t leave the house for weeks.” She sits down on the couch. “My dad doesn’t want the same thing for me. Specially now days, one tweet and a little white lie can be the front page of the news and all anyone is talking about. A misleading photo and my embarrassment would be everyone’s excitement.” She chews her bottom lip.

“You never told me that.” Peter gets up and moves to sit with her.

“Cause I knew it would put a gap between us. You’d want to protect me, and I didn’t want anymore hanging over us. Reality was enough waiting for us at the end of senior year.” She curls up to him, her head on his chest.

“We still have the rest of senior year.” He kisses the top of her head.

“Tony will have you tested out or get your GED’s. You’ll be on the road and creating an album before winter break.” She replies in a small voice.

“Fuck.” Buck looks like he might be sick.

“Alright boys.” Sam looks around. “Let’s duke it out.” He nods.

“Steve could do it!” Peter yells, pointing at Steve. Wanda and Nat sat on the couch with Y/N, each one looking as miserable as the next.

“I don’t write this shit Parker!” Steve yells back. “We wouldn’t have music if you didn’t write it!” He points at Peter.

“Cause everyone writes their own music?!” Peter yells back.

“This was your fucking dream!” Buck jumps in.

“Oh yeah I twisted all your fucking arms into this shit!” Peter scuffs.

“You had to go and fall for the girl with the famous fucking dad!” Steve yells. “We wouldn’t be fighting like this if you just kept your dick to yourself!” Steve points his finger at Peter.

“Don’t fucking put this on her!” Peter steps forward yelling back.

“Yoko!” Steve yells.

“WHOA!” Buck turns on his friend, everyone looks at Steve shocked.

“Too far man.” Sam shakes his head.

“Y/N!” Nat calls. The four of them turn just in time to see her running down the drive into the night.

“Good fucking job.” Buck shakes his head.

“You’re a fuck.” Peter points at Steve, before running after Nat and Wanda who are running after Y/N.

Three days and he was starting to lose his mind. He sat through the demo meeting, thinking about her. Checking his phone in hopes she might have replied to the millions of texts he sent her. Nothing. Tony gave them a week to decide, to take the deal or go off to college and live normal lives. He sat on her front steps when she pulled up he jumped up.

“Peter.” She blinks surprised eyes at him.

“You’re killing me avoiding me.” He admits.

“I thought we needed space.” She shrugs.

“Why? There’s a deadline hanging over us and you want to step back?” He could feel the pain tightening in his chest.

“I just didn’t want to influence your choices.” She sighs.

“They want to take the deal. Buck and Sam are a wreck about it.” He sighs, pulling her into his arms.

“Nat and Wanda are too.” She admits into his chest.

“Stay with me tonight?” He looks down, she nods.

“I need to show you something first.” She grabs his hand pulling him into the house with her. “Don’t laugh, no comments.” She looks at him as they stand in her bedroom.

“I would never.” He smiles.

“The comment my father made to you about writing our break up song. Well you don’t get to write it, I did. But you’re going to sing it.” She nods. “Well part of it.” She swallows.

“You wrote another song?” He reaches over grabbing her hand.

“I wrote our break up song. And I sing part of it.” She nods. She hands him a few pieces of paper, lyrics and sheet music. “You should have a band practice tonight. We’ll order pizza and we can work on this, together.” She nods.

“We’re not breaking up.” He looks at her.

“Not right now. But we will.” She reaches up kissing him.

Honestly, I did a lot bc he’s such a big character & Will played him so perfectly that I didn’t want to ruin that. Aside from reading, watching the show, other research, I worked with a criminologist who helped me better understand the psyche of a person who was raised as JCM was

I’m really interested to know what you all will think of 3x17... we worked really hard on it and it reveals a lot about Jonathan.

Not the scripts, but the call sheet which is a document that production sends out the night before shooting so you know what time to arrive on set and what scenes you’re filming.

I did not. I’m annoyingly serious on set. Also I spent most of 3B crying, so there wasn’t much time.

STAY STRONG. First, he finds out his father (who killed his pet falcon and used to break his fingers whenever he messed up playing piano) wasn’t actually dead, and is in fact Valentine, a mass murderer who hid his real face his entire childhood. He is then told by Valentine that the girl he’s been falling for is his sister. Then he is forced to go with him and do his bidding to save his friends from being killed, and while he is there he gets tortured both mentally and physically. Oh, and Valentine lies to him once again by making him believe he has demon blood.

After he manages to escape, he’s then treated as a criminal and sent to prison, and actually tries to kill himself with the Soul Sword to prevent Valentine from taking him again. And even when he is proven innocent, everyone who once considered him the best warrior keeps treating him like shit. At this point he still feels like he’s disgusting, being basically a demon experiment who’s still in love with his sister, so he turns to a random seelie for comfort/distraction. And gets judged for it. He’s then influenced by a spell which makes him think his adoptive mother wants to kill him and thinks he’s a monster.

He’s then willing to die AGAIN to save downworlders from death, only to discover that he actually had angel blood and therefore able to activate the Sword. And gets blamed for it. Again. He later finds out that Clary isn’t his sister, but she’s already in a relationship, so he says nothing, but when she inevitably finds out, she gets mad at him and asks him why he doesn’t let himself feel anything. Really, girl?! He has a fling with Maia, who tells him it doesn’t mean anything. Clary is forced to kiss him at the Seelie Court, telling him it doesn’t mean anything. People keep telling him he doesn’t mean anything to them. So when he finds out who his real family is, all he wants to do is please his grandma. He makes amends by naming his parabatai, (the one who deserved being in charge all along) the Head of the Institue, rejecting his family’s nepotism. Yet no one cares.

But the absolute cherry on top: he gets stabbed by the man who raised him and DIES. Oh, but that’s not all. He’s brought back to life, thinking he can finally be with the girl he loves, only to become possessed by the mother of all demons, being forced to make innocent mundanes kill their loved ones and throw Clary off the top of a building. He’s trapped inside his own mind killing Clary over and over again, having even his childhood memories (the happy ones, with Alec and Izzy) corrupted by Lilith. He asks his siblings to kill him, but they obviously refuse. They pull him out, but Lilith gets to him again. He then injures his parabatai close to fatally, and then he is told by Simon that Clary, the only girl he’s ever loved, is dead.

Wow.

And you people hate him because... what, he’s a bit smug? FFS. Obviously he’s not a perfect character, he is flawed. But why can’t people be more sympathetic towards him?

When Alec tried to jump off the roof everyone applauded the show for acknowledging it in the next episode, having Magnus talk to him about it. Well, Jace tried to kill himself THREE TIMES and I didn’t see anybody showing any concern for him whatsoever. Either on the show or in real life. So... what’s up with that?!

One of the best things about this show (which is why it’s so beloved by fans) is their portrayal of not only poc, but sensitive issues like racism and mental health. And I get that they can’t show every single detail about a character’s journey due to screen time, but I mean, Jace has been through almost literal hell. Give him a break.

Another issue I’ve seen people have with Jace is that he doesn’t really ask Alec about his feelings or about Magnus that much. I get it, I would also love to see more real talk between them. But let’s think this through from Jace’s point of view. He and Alec grew up together and became parabatai, yes. But we have to remember that Alec never talked to him about his romantic conquests or his feelings about anything because he couldn’t. Jace didn’t have that problem. This is a matter not only of Alec struggling with his sexuality, but also of personality. Don’t we all have that one friend who overshares things and another one who’s more reserved about their romantic life? Everyone’s entitled to their own feelings, and to share or not share whatever the fuck they want with whomever they want. Even with people close to them. Alec has been a reserved kind of guy his entire life, even after coming out. He is only a hundred percent relaxed around Magnus and Izzy because they have always known and understood him completely. It’s always been different with Jace, even if they are in fact parabatai. It doesn’t mean they don’t trust each other, it just means their relationship is different. Also, up until they met Clary and Magnus, both Jace and Alec “believed” that emotions were a distraction. So why would they ever talk about it? They had a heart to heart before Alec’s wedding, but that doesn’t mean their dynamic’s gonna change that fast, I mean, apparently it’s only been less than two months, or whatever. And they might be a lot more comfortable now that they’ve cleared everything up, but if you notice, Alec’s only asked him pretty standard stuff regarding Clary, like “so, what’s up, when are you telling her you’re not related?”, not “how did that kiss at the Seelie Court made you feel, bro?” ... know what I mean? Lol. They do have real conversations about other stuff, though, like when Alec is worried about Jace’s mental health, suspecting it has something do with his mother. That is realistic. That is brotherly concern.

Also, the thing is if the writers decide to prioritize certain stuff over others there’s nothing we can do, except maybe ask via tweet (politely) to see if they can add stuff like more heart to heart conversations between them. But we still have twelve more episodes, so we just have to wait and see.

Another thing that comes to mind about people not liking Jace is that maybe, maybe, y’all still holding grudges against Dom. Yes, I was also mad at him for a while. But it’s been like what, a year? People are allowed to grow and learn from their mistakes. He immediately apologized for his insensitivity and rudeness and has been trying to be a better person ever since. And he’s still paying for it. Isn’t it healthier for everyone to move on?

Listen, here in Mexico there’s a persistent macho culture, and people often use slurs as part of their everyday vocabulary, forgetting at times that what they’re saying is even a slur because of the context in which they’re using it. Is it disgusting? Of course. And I have friends and acquaintances whom I’ve heard saying things like that occasionally. And yes, some of them are just assholes, but some others... well, I know them, and I know they’re not bad people. Most of it comes from ignorance. So what we can do is explain why what they’re saying is wrong and hopefully they’ll learn from it. Dom is obviously loved by the cast and crew. They’ve become a family. So obviously they know him better than we do. If they can move past it, why can’t we? That’s my opinion. And there’s no denying that his performance as Jace has been remarkable, the vulnerability he showed when Alec and Izzy go inside his mind was amazing. And I mean, you don’t have to love Dom either, just don’t blame his character. Jace hasn’t done or said anything. So cut him some slack.
