Chapter one: A Mystery to be Solved

Finally, lunch period.

Staring at my lunch tray as I walked to my usual table in the corner, a strange smell emitting from the sad excuse for meatloaf given to me.

"Man, I wish I had the time to pack my own lunch today." I muttered to myself in a grimace before sitting down.

Usually my "bestest friend ever" (her words, not mine) Isabel Christina Garcia, or less formerly known as Izzie, sat with me to blab on about whatever was on her mind at the time.

But she's been busy. Doing what, you may ask? Hanging out with her Sheepweek team. I'm not sad about it though. I'm doing fine on my own!

Besides I have better things to think about, like that strange dream I had last night, and the night before that. Let me explain.

The fifteenth of May 2023. That's when it started. I was having a long stream of nightmares. I couldn't sleep, much less eat. I couldn't think of anything else other than that... thing chasing me, hunting me down.

Gnarly yellow teeth, a cage for a stomach and a skull for a head. If it wasn't so terrifying, it'd be funny. And that eye... a bright yellow with a reptile like irise.

But, enough of that.

They... She saved me, Izzie I mean... but its no wonder that she doesn't seem to remember it.

At least that's what she told me, along with the rest of her group. I remember it so vividly though, the real kicker is what happened tonight.

I walked around a mystical forest, writing down everything I saw in my notebook, watching tree-like deer from afar, and staring at the sky.

Pretty normal except for the fact I actually remember it. I barely remember my nightmares let alone my dreams!

It felt so...real, and vivid and the weirdest part about it is I even remember pain from it! Stubbing my toe against a root, hitting the ground from a tree, dust in the eyes, everything.

I stared at my lunch, barely even touched.

I then stare at notebook, filled with writing and descriptions of dreams I thought weren't real. I sneak a peek at the table in front of me, specifically at Izzie.

I know no one would believe me if I told them any of this, hell I barely believe myself. But maybe, just maybe she'd believe me.

Her eyes meet mine.

Her usual wide smile on her face as she waves to me—I quickly hide my face behind my notebook, my face burning an almost bright red in embarrassment as I realize she caught me staring. I really hope she doesn't bring that up later.

I grumble to myself in embarrassment before staring at my notebook again. I need to figure this out... if there was even anything happening.

I'm still unsure, but if there was I needed to figure something out—

My train of thought is cut short by the bell, lunch was over and I haven't eaten a thing. But then again I'd rather starve than risk spending an hour in the bathroom over some meatloaf.

I get up and throw away the contents of my tray, giving it to the lunch lady and walked back to class. I go to my locker, grabbing a couple of books for science class before I spot Izzie next to me.

"Sup Izz, good for our sleepover?" I call out in a friendly manner, turning my head to her as I close my locker.

She turns back to me, her bright smile the same as always... before it faltered a flash of guilt on her face before she replied.

"Oh! I am so sorry Nova, there's something really important I need to do tonight! I'll make up to you tomorrow I swear!" She said in a guilty tone as she called off our sleepover... whatever.

"You better," I reply playfully, hiding how totally not sad I am about her calling off our hangout together. I don't even care! That just gives me more time to research! Totally fine.

"I will, promise." She added, before closing her locker and grabbing my hand in hers, her other filled with books.

"Walk me to class?" She asked, as if in an attempt to comfort me, which I don't need, but will accept. I smile awkwardly, looking at our hands before looking back at her.

"Sure!" I reply, my voice sounding a lot higher pitched than it should. I was already walking with her, curtsy of her hand basically dragging me along.

There's so much to think about for when I get home, but for now, I think I'll live.

he’s just a silly little guy, who sounds like a 40 year old man /jokes. Idk, I like him, he has issues. He isn’t top of the brainrot pyramid but i have lots of thoughts about him too and his bond with Z-Blob is very interesting/cute. That god complex at the end of season one tho-

Mateo x Cooper - The Brainrot man … just so many layers to me. Mateo x Zoey - classic I know, they aren’t my top ship for each other but like for specific aus i love them.

Bro-TP (i think that’s the term) : Mateo and Z-Blob obv, the besties ever. Mateo and Izzie are also very important to me, the separation anxiety ✨ and the way they totally have twintuition even tho they aren’t twin lol. Mateo and Logan, the leader and the lancer, writing them is so entertaining

Unpopular opinion: uhhhhh well ig I headcanon that he loves gross stuff and doesn’t have a weak stomach (?). Like his best friend and favourite comic book character to draw is literally a giant booger and honestly he kinda screams bio nerd to me

One thing - off the top of my head I think they should’ve let him hug Cooper more, like come on Lego its not gay to let two guys hug geeze

Man I love her but i need to think more about her. Her character growth was really good imo and I find it interesting how Mateo seemed to kinda throw some leadership roles onto her and she just kinda took it rolling, like I feel like there’s more there ngl. Oh and canon character in a wheelchair? That’s awesome especially with how it’s just a part of her character and nothing… you know

Astrid x Logan - yep. Lol ok but they way they bounce off of each other and challenge each other and honestly help the other be a better player/team mate and you could honestly say person is peak and so fun and they’re honestly pretty cute ngl. Total bi 4 bi couple imo Astrid x Zoey - they so have history in my head plus I think she’d totally be drawn in by Zoey’s mysterious act

Bro-TP: Astrid and Nova, have they interacted in canon? Nope but listen they’re so besties especially in regards to Night Bureau stuff i feel. Astrid and Albert, again they haven’t interacted in canon but listen I think Astrid would instantly be put in to Albert’s favourite kid placement what with her rough and tumble personality. Astrid and Cooper, idk just something with them both having perfectionism pressure but then I think they should bond over it and being able to break out from that pressure AND Astrid should introduce Cooper to fairytales to help him think of things to dream craft.

Unpopular opinion: ummmm I can’t think of any??? So uh just … her pegasus is named Rapunzel … yeah

One Thing: I know they already have a huge cast to manage but I think her and Royce should’ve had one or two more moments just so we could see more about that perfectionism pressure and what their relationship is like

I was the introverted one during school, I barely talked to my classmates, and I struggled making new friends. Most of all, I had ideas I thought were good but didn't express them out of fear. Then, if someone had the same idea, I felt regret

I'm not sure if this was supposed to be this impactful, but it is to me, and especially in middle and high school your insecurities are put to the test

I'm much more confident now, and I hope to see Mateo growing to do the same 😊

Right now I'm not really interested in writing for any of those, although I have been thinking about replaying the GOTG game and that might get me back into writing for it. I've also been drafting a few fics for Skyrim, so I might be able to add that soon.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

#1: The Rise and Fall of Rocket Raccoon and the Dumbass from Earth, my first fic and also by far my longest.

#2 and #3: I'd Rather Sleep Alone and I'd Rather Sleep on the Floor, respectively, a two-part series (that was supposed to be a trilogy oops).

#4: Night Moves, my first attempt at writing smut. I've been too afraid to go back and read it since I first put it up lol.

#5: An Improper Little Seductress, my most recent fic and the only OFMD fic in the top five.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Sometimes. I always try to find something more to say than just "thanks," but if I can't then I'll usually end up forgetting about it and never replying. I do love getting comments though, so I'm trying to be better about that.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I generally don't do angsty endings, but the one exception to that is Sometimes Love Is Not Enough, the anonymous fic I mentioned earlier.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I love a disgustingly saccharine ending so it's hard to choose, but I guess I'd go with The Rise and Fall of Rocket Raccoon and the Dumbass from Earth.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No; I was expecting it on Sometimes Love Is Not Enough, which is why I put it up anonymously, but all the comments on it have been positive.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I tried it once and it wasn't really for me. I will still occasionally write sex scenes, but they always end up being more comedic than erotic.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I guess technically I have a few GOTG (movies) / GOTG (2021 video game) crossovers, in that I'm just kind of picking and choosing bits of setting and characterization from each and mashing them together, but I've never done a proper crossover between two completely different canons.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I've never actually checked any other sites to see, but I really doubt it.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, although I would be totally open to it if anyone wanted to.

13: Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

No, and I don't think I ever could. I'm both an incredibly slow writer and a total control freak so I would be such a nightmare to work with lol.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

That's tough; my first ship was roquill (Rocket Raccoon/Peter Quill, from GOTG), the ship I've felt the most passionate about was cjizzy (Calico Jack/Izzy Hands, from OFMD), and I don't really have a ship I'm that into at the moment.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't have any; once I've committed to writing a fic I will drag myself kicking and screaming until I'm done with it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue for sure. I like to think I do a good job portraying what characters would say and how they would say it.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes are really tough for me; if I'm not careful I tend to fall into just writing "character A did x, then y. Character B did z" over and over again, which isn't very interesting. I also struggle with describing the setting of a scene, so I guess it's just narration in general that I'm not great at.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I have one single word in Spanish in Billy, and that took all my vague memories of high school Spanish, a dictionary, an online translator, and a few language-learner forum posts to make sure it was the right word in that context. And I'm absolutely not going to go to all that effort for anything longer than one word lol.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Guardians of the Galaxy (the movies, I didn't get into the comics until later).

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Probably REAL GHOST ENCOUNTER (NOT CLICKBAIT). Writing is usually torture for me, like I'm taking a pickaxe to my skull to mine the words out of my brain one by one, but this one just flowed right out of me. I was so inspired that I wrote the whole thing over the span of one evening, and I think that ease comes across in the final product.
