Yoichi calling Kudou “My Hero”
Kudou smirking as he uses Kacchan to finally get Izuku to listen to him
Izuku not wanting to let go of One For All, not because it’s strong or because he’ll be Quirkless again but because All Might gave it to him so it’s precious to him BABY
The vestiges taking the fight inside of Shigaraki, meaning we might get vestige Izuku and vestige Kacchan
I loved it. Everything about it.

Here is my thing for the Write This In Your Style challenge by @izukachu! here is their post and here is their explanation if you want to do it too!
---------------
“Fuck!” Katsuki bangs on the solid metal wall, making Izuku jump slightly from his spot on the floor on the other side of the room.
“Don’t try to melt it again. It’s already hot enough in here as it is,” he says as he takes off his mask. They’ve been stuck in this windowless, doorless room for half an hour, maybe longer. It’s hard for Izuku to keep track when Katsuki won’t stop pacing.
“Do you have a better plan?”
“We had a better plan until you went rogue!”
Katsuki knocks his forehead against the wall, his words muffled against it. “You didn’t have to follow me.”
Izuku opens his mouth to snap back at him: Of course I’m going to follow you! That’s what we do! But, feeling self-conscious, he tucks his legs up to his chest and mutters, “You knew I would.”
“So who’s fault is that?” Katsuki shoots back. He turns around, but Izuku can’t bring himself to look him in the eyes. He hears Katsuki sigh, long and hard, and then his footsteps along the dull metal as he walks over to him. He pauses for a moment, then slides down the wall to sit next to Izuku. A long moment passes before he says, “I’m sorry.”
Izuku shrugs. “I know it’s not entirely your fault. I just don’t get it. We’re a team! I thought you understood what the plan was.”
“Oh, I understood alright.”
“So, what? You messed up on purpose?”
“I didn’t mess up.”
“You were in the briefing room with Fat Gum, same as I!” Izuku starts to recite their orders. “We were supposed to stay together until they came to us. Any villains leading us away were trying to split us—”
“I know what he said! I just didn’t…” Katsuki bows his head, his face in his hands, forcefully rubbing his eyes. “I’m sick of them using you as bait. I couldn’t just stand there. I had to do something.” He looks up then, catching Izuku off-guard with his crimson gaze, steady and earnest. His words are barely a whisper when he says, “I knew you would follow me.”
Izuku’s heart pounds, his face flushing. “So…So—What? So—”
In one clean motion, Katsuki reaches out to take Izuku’s face in his gloved-hand and kiss him. It’s soft and slow, the small movements of Katsuki’s lips pressing into his, his hand awkwardly moving to the back of Izuku’s head. He smells sweet, that unique way he does after sweating a lot, but not too much, the kind of scent that hasn’t changed since they got to UA a couple years ago. When Katsuki pulls away, Izuku can’t open his eyes, the skin on his face too alive, buzzing from contact.
“Is that okay?” Katsuki whispers. Izuku’s eyes fly open to see Katsuki’s face, still gorgeous even with his brow furrowed, his lips in a tight line, his eyes questioning.
“Yeah.” Izuku nods. “Yeah, it’s okay.”
A smile blooms on Katsuki’s face, lighting up his features. “Good. Because I’ve wanted to do that for a long time.”
And just like that, the four walls start to break down around them.
“What the fuck? I just needed to tell you how I felt?" Katsuki groans. "Being around you makes me fucking gay.”
Izuku laughs as he stands and holds out his hand to help Katsuki up. “I’m sorry, Kacchan, but you’re plenty gay without my help.”
Katsuki scoffs but doesn’t protest as he takes Izuku’s hand.

For Bakudeku event on Twitter
Modern AU setting. Santa/Elf prompt
It started with a stupid dare to take a picture with the Santa in the mall, and Katsuki Bakugou never backed down from a dare no matter how stupid or silly it was. And really, how could taking a picture hurt?
With his buddies watching on, the blonde trundled up to the Santa and sat on the man’s lap for the photo, glaring at his friends who were giving him the thumbs up. ‘Fuckers, if they even so much as think... to...’ his eyes land on Santa’s helper dressed like an elf. ‘Oh, wow...’
“Smile!” The young man prompting from behind the camera smiled brightly.
He looked to be their age from what Katsuki could see. Messy green hair stuck out from under an elf cap, costume matching the color of his hair and eyes for that matter, but the freckles... just adorable! Such a bright smile practically radiated happiness, oh, and how the man’s eyes crinkled at the corners, twinkling like the soft Christmas lights set up around the area. Katsuki’s heart skipped and he suddenly forgot where he was.
“Sir, you may wait on the side for your photo.”
Huh? Oh, right, the stupid photo dare. He didn’t even want it, yet walked over to the waiting area where his friends were standing.
“Bakubro,” Eijiro Kirishima, his best friend questioned, “you seem dazed, did the flash blind you or something?”
“What? Pfft, no, why?”
“You like, totally zoned out at the elf, that’s why.”
The amused tone in Eijiro’s voice wasn’t lost on the blonde. “So? I thought he looked weird.”
“Oh...”
“Oh?” Katsuki’s brow raises. “What the fuck did you think I was thinking?!”
Eijiro grinned wide. “That he’s cute.”
“I didn’t say that!” He gritted out. “Don’t be putting words in my mouth!”
Katsuki continued to deny his friends assertions, and was so caught up in the bickering, doesn’t hear the elf coming up behind him until Eijiro stopped mid-sentence to look past him.
“Sir, your photo.”
The chipper voice was like a melody to soothe a savage beast. Clearly the opposite of personality from the gruff and grumpy Katsuki. He turned quickly and took the white envelope with a curt thanks before immediately getting the hell out of there! His friends followed, laughing, at his expense, but screw them! It’s not like he had a chance anyway! The guy probably had a girl or boyfriend being such a cutie cinnamon roll. The longer he thought about it, the worst his mood became. Katsuki worked hard to hide his anxieties, which is why he rarely dated.
“Dude, come on,” Eijiro tried to stop him from leaving the mall so soon. “We were just kidding!”
“I’m fucking tired, so I’m going home!” To forget all about the cute little Santa’s helper.
Except he couldn’t..
And kept thinking about the man, even dreamt about him that night. When Katsuki woke up the next morning, tired from a restless sleep, he pulled up the mall information on his phone to see how long they’d be running the Santa’s workshop. Two more weeks, and the last day would be Christmas Eve. Great. Two weeks to figure out what to do.
‘This is madness...’ Katsuki thought as he stood around the corner just out of view. He’d been watching the elf work for a week now, desperate to learn more. Was he gay, straight, taken?! Please be gay and single. So far, he hasn’t seen anyone approach the elf, but then again, he is at work and they might not come to bother him at work. ‘Argh! What am I doing here?!’
It was lunch break for the elf, and Katsuki watched as he removed the costumes hat and grabbed his belongings to go to the food court. But just as he leaves the front, a girl walked up. The elf smiled wide, happy with a light blush on his cheeks as they hug. Katsuki deflates the longer he watches them chat, and the deeper the man’s cheeks turn red. Oh... this must be a girlfriend. He turned away unable to watch any longer. So be it. He knew the odds had been low, that this cinnamon roll would be taken. Smart people jump at such opportunities, yet look at him, stalking someone because he’d been too afraid to say anything.
Katsuki sucked back the tears. No! He’s not gonna cry! Wtf is wrong with him! His hands clench at his sides and head hangs low. Time to leave and move on, there’ll be others or maybe not. But like a glutton for punishment, Katsuki turned to look one more time, take one last look at the cute little green-haired elf whose smile had stolen his heart... and who was staring back at him?!
The girl is pointing and grinning in his direction. Why the fuck is she pointing?! Katsuki’s takes a tentative step backwards, maybe they thought he was stalking?! Okay, so he was, but that’s not good. Crap! Why is the elf walking towards him now?! He looked around in a panic, should he run? Yes! Katsuki takes off in the opposite direction. He hears the man calling after him.
Stop! Wait! Please stop!
Why is the elf pursuing him?! Is he gonna report him to security? The girl probably called and they’re on their way...
Mister cute blonde guy please stop running!!
Mister WHAT?!
Katsuki stopped dead in his tracks, completely shook by the man’s words, but apparently the elf hadn’t planned on the sudden reaction and barreled head long into Katsuki’s back, sending them both tumbling to the ground.
“Are you crazy?!”
“You’re the one who ran!”
Both men’s mouths clamp shut, face to face, eye to eye... Katsuki sucked in a breath, heaven help him the elf’s emerald pools with hints of gold flecks bore straight into his soul.
“Why’d you call me cute?” Katsuki sputtered out.
“Because,” the man averted his eyes. “You are.”
Katsuki growled at the loss of eye contact and pulled the man’s face back towards him. He knew then and there he wanted to stare into those hues for the rest of his life.
“I’m not really good at shit like this, but,” Katsuki’s voice lowered. “I think you’re really cute too.”
“Is that why you were watching me?”
The hope twinkling in the elf’s eyes from such a statement sent Katsuki’s heart into an explosion of warmth as if he’d had dynamite stored inside him all along. Is this what love at first sight meant?
“What’s your name elf boy?”
“Izuku.”
The man’s giggles sent more arrows through his heart. Yup he was done. “I’m Katsuki.”
“Mister Katsuki, could I have your number? Cause I gotta get back to work but I’d love to call you later.”
“Pfft cut the mister part and why are you working at such a silly place?”
“Oh,” Izuku grew sheepish, “I needed the extra money to buy Christmas gifts. I don’t have much since I’m still in college.”
“Like how much?”
“Um, I saw a pair of earrings I think my mom would like, so this last paycheck should give me enough for it.”
“A store in the mall?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Get up,” he pulled Izuku to his feet. “Let’s go get it.”
“Wait!” He pulled back. “I can’t afford it yet.”
“It’s for your mom, and I can.”
“N-no, I can’t except such a gift.”
“Look, Izuku my parents own the jewelry store here and—“
“You’re a Bakugou?!”
“Shh, don’t shout that shit! Just call me Santa.”
Izuku shook his head. “I can’t accept that, w-we just met and—“
“I won’t take no for an answer.” He tipped Izuku’s chin up. “The fact you care so much about your mom makes me like you even more. Just say you’ll be my boyfriend, that’s all I wanna hear.”
“You want me to be your boyfriend?” Izuku’s words wisp out. “Is this all a dream?”
Katsuki chuckled. “One that came true maybe. Look, if it makes you feel better, my mom will be so happy I have a boyfriend she’ll probably give you anything you want in the store.”
That brings a giggle back out of Izuku. “Mine will too. Okay.” He smiled and let pot a long exhale. “I’d love to be your boyfriend. But I really should go back to work, they need me—“
“Nope,” Katsuki takes his hand and starts walking towards the jewelry store. “No boyfriend of mine works as an elf.”
“But Kacchan,” he pouts, “I don’t wanna crush the kids dreams. Let me finish the shift at least.”
“Ugh, fine.” Katsuki grumbled though the smile never left his face. “Find me at the store when your done.”
“Okay!” Izuku beamed, kissing Katsuki’s cheek before rushing off to work.
Katsuki touched the warm spot left behind on his skin and smiled. This little green-haired elf was his perfect opposite in every way and everything about him made him smile. Maybe he should thank Eijiro for daring him that day...
Nah!

Coming Home - Part 2
Summary: When Katsuki stepped off the plane, he was greeted with the familiar heat of Musutafu in summer. Humidity like he was sitting in a sauna. He’d been all over America in the past five and a half years, but nothing was quite like the weather of home. It could be similar, primarily along the east coast, but just not quite the same. Just similar.
Breathing in deeply, he gripped the small hand in his and started down the ramp to where he could see Best Jeanist leaning against a car with illegally blacked out windows. Katsuki idly wondered if he was absolutely roasting in his hero uniform.
“Your hand is sweaty, Papa.”
“Your’s isn’t much better, little monster.”
…..
Or where Katsuki disappeared to America to find someone to make prostheses for him. He was gone for five and a half years, and returns with a little tag-a-long.
Pairing: Bakudeku
Rating: T (just for language mostly)
Chapter: 2/2
Part 1 <-Previous
Follow-on: Christmas Preemie
Part 2: what’s in the box?
Katsuki woke with a sudden start to cool sheets and aching ears. The events of the night trickled back slowly as he lay there, blinking into the sunlight peaking in at him around the edges of his curtains. No, not his curtains. They were a disgusting pea green color that had been left there by the owner who had rented the place to them. He'd have to remedy that as soon as possible.
In the confusion of the first good night's sleep he'd gotten in a long time, he could convince himself that everything had been a dream. He was still in America, miserable save for the time he spent with Katsumi. But with a rustle of sheets, Izuku's lightning storm and mint scent misted the air.
Katsuki buried his nose in the pillow Izuku had used, inhaling his scent for several long moments. He'd spent years without his mate's scent. Or he should say, the scent of the person he'd like to be his mate eventually. His alpha's scent. His Deku's scent. If scents could be made into perfumes, he would carry around a bottle of Izuku's scent just to pull out when he missed him. And he did miss him. Katsuki had gotten over the knee jerk reaction to deny any soft feeling towards the other hero a long time ago. It was hard to keep hold of them when he adored their daughter who was the spitting image of her father.
A crash and resounding laughter from the kitchen jerked him from his reverie. His hearing aids squealed, and he flinched before snapping his prostheses into place with a grunt. The palm of his prosthetic arm sparked feebly, but there was no sweat in the arm's tubes to light off. They'd be filled soon enough as he started to move around, collected from ports hooked into his armpit's sweat glands.
He took a moment to let the pain settle, running through his pre-operational checks before pushing to his feet.
His hearing aids squealed again, and with a grunt, he pulled them off. The world around him hushed into silence. He should have thought of taking them out before going to bed that night. He hadn't though, not with Izuku's hands on him. There was the very real chance he wouldn't be able to use them for the rest of the day, not with the way his ears were aching. The ringing built slowly until it was filling his head with static. Tinnitus, the worse part of anything he'd done to himself. Even worse than the prostheses. It would fade in and out throughout the day, leaving him in silence or giving him a splitting headache. There was never an in between.
In the kitchen, the counters were dusted with pancake or waffle mix. Fruit and vegetables sweat by the sink, begging for him to save them from a terrible butchering. Smoke rose damningly from a pan on the stove.
Standing over it, Izuku stood with Sumi on his hip and a spatula in his hand. They laughed in unison as Izuku failed to flip the pancake. 'I'm so bad at this. Your papa is a way better cook than me.' They looked so natural together. Izuku's curls against Sumi's. Izuku's smile matching the one of Sumi's face perfectly. Their freckles vibrant and an identical map across their faces. There was no mistaking what they were.
Katsuki couldn't hear them, obviously, but in five years, he had become passable at reading lips. And reading Izuku's had never been a problem.
'Me too,' Sumi confided, trying just as unsuccessfully to flip the pancake. When she finally got it over, they cheered together with hands raised high above their heads.
Katsuki leaned against his doorjamb, watching the pair interact until Izuku caught sight of him.
Red bloomed in his cheeks as he grinned. 'Kacchan! Good morning!' What Katsuki wouldn't have given to see those lips form his name on his worst days in America.
'Morning, Papa! We're making breakfast!' Sumi frowned down at the pan before turning serious eyes on him. 'Trying to. We burned the pancake.' When she looked back up at him, she frowned and pointed to her ear. She pointed the tips of her index fingers at each other, jerking them towards each other twice. 'Hurt?' the sign asked.
Nodding and stepping away from his room, Katsuki surveyed the destruction of his kitchen. He sighed. Raising his hands to sign to Sumi, 'That's because you two can't be trusted in the kitchen. The heat is way too high. How have you already managed to destroy my kitchen in only a day?'
Sumi grinned and translated for Izuku, but didn't actually answer. Izuku scrubbed at the back of his head, eyes darting over the area. 'We were hungry and didn't want to wake you up, so we thought we'd give it a shot. I'm going to clean up. Don't worry.'
Sighing and rounding the counter, Katsuki pulled on the apron he'd hung up the night before and bumped Izuku out of the way with his hip. 'Well, we have to finish breakfast first. Tell Deku he's eating that burnt monstrosity. Also, can you ask him to wash the dishes so you can set the table?'
Sumi nodded, and turned in Izuku's arms to hold his cheeks between her hands. As the three of them got to work, Katsuki fell into the ease of it all. Their scents mixing together in a harmonious chorus. Katsuki and Izuku orbiting around each other as if they'd never stopped. Sumi incorporated seamlessly into the movement as she worked with Izuku.
Katsuki was, fundamentally, happy for the first time in a long time. Even the usual self consciousness of his bare prostheses and deaf ears couldn't find its way into his body. When he was with Izuku, he was the most confident version of himself.
Breakfast went off without a hitch as Sumi did her best to teach Izuku a few basic ASL signs.
Across the table from them, Katsuki smiled and proceeded to say everything dirty he possibly could. He did them while Sumi's eyes were turned away, and was so lewd that Izuku didn't need to know sign language to know what he was saying.
Face red at a strawberry, he cried, 'Kacchan, stop!'
'Never.'
'Papa, stop teasing Daddy!' Sumi signed as she spoke, glaring at him.
He raised an eyebrow at her in challenge. “I do what I want, punk,” Katsuki said aloud, and though he couldn't hear himself, he knew they had come out correctly when Izuku's shoulders began to shake with laughter.
They were finishing breakfast when Katsuki's eye was caught by a light flashing by the couch. He'd completely forgotten that he'd left his phone out in the living room at the end of the night, and he stood to grab it. He groaned when he saw the name for the video chat request. Accepting the call, he held up a finger without looking at the screen as he returned to the kitchen to find something to stand his phone against. When he had it set up, he stepped back to greet his now ex-boss.
Negative was an imposing woman to say the least. Her eyes were inkwells, blending almost perfectly with her black skin. Her outrageously large Afro was starkly white and just barely being restrained with a Ground Zero themed bandanna she'd bought for the sole purpose of annoying him, but had ended up using often. She was tall and broad shouldered and took up space in a room with her mere presence. Every day he saw her, he thanked the stars that they were both gay. He'd met her wife, a teeny tiny beta woman who was the reason for the term 'lipstick lesbian', and still didn't understand their union.
'What?'
Negative signed as she spoke, mouth tight with consternation, 'You didn't call me, you punk ass bitch. I told you to call as soon as you landed no matter what time it was.'
Katsuki sighed, rolling his eyes. 'Stuff came up.'
'You're a dirty liar. Where's my goddaughter?' she demanded. Cynthia, her wife, appeared in the frame with the widest smile in the world. Her long rainbow dreads swayed as she waved at him and blew him a kiss.
“Hi, Cynthia.” He glanced away from the screen towards the table where Katsumi was waving wildly.
'Is that Shonetta? Aunt Shonetta, I'm over here! I'm over here!' Sumi was yelling, ready to crawl straight across the table to him, but Izuku had an arm around her waist to keep her in place.
Rolling his eyes back to the camera, Katsuki picked up the phone and switched the camera to show Izuku with his still rather sleep-mussed hair and Sumi look just like him. “Shonetta, Cynthia, Deku. Deku, Shonetta and Cynthia.”
Izuku waved at the camera. 'Actually, my name is Izuku. It's nice to meet you.'
Cynthia had crowded in next to Shonetta, staring intently at the screen with wide eyes. Katsuki scrambled to mute the call before she said anything that he was going to regret. 'Holy shit, that's baby daddy, isn't it!' They had always been good at talking while signing for his sake, but sometimes, he wished he couldn't understand them at all.
Which was, of course, a dirty lie. Shonetta and Cythia had singlehandedly kept him sane in America. He had a lot to thank them for. The biggest reason them guiding him through his pregnancy which had been more difficult than most for many reasons. It would take an act of god for him to give them up. Katsuki returned to the counter, glaring at the two women as they continued speculating together.
'Thought you had better taste than that, Kat. Isn't he kind of plain looking?' Shonetta asked.
Cynthia slapped at her wife's arm. 'Be nice! He's adorable! Sumi looks exactly like him! Take us off mute really quick.' Katsuki complied with her request as Shonetta squawked indignantly at not realizing he had muted them in the first place. With a roll of her eyes, Cynthia waves at the camera again. 'Good to know you made it back alright, Kat, Sumi. I've got to get to work, but hope to talk to you soon! Don't be strangers. Bye, Sumi! I love you both!'
Katsuki doesn't turn to catch Sumi's reply, just nodded to Cynthia. "Bye."
When Cynthia seemed to be completely gone, Shonetta turned a wicked grin toward him. 'So, is he... stuff? Have you already-' she signed. By the end, she wasn't even using actual words, just making hand gestures that were so lewd they even made Katsuki's face heat. She was the one he'd learned all of his sign language from, after all.
'No!' he signed aggressively, 'God, you are a menace to society! Leave my mate out of this!'
'Oooooh, mate already?' she crowed, flapping her hands instead of signing. She wrapped her arms around her belly as she began to chortle, and he could almost hear the exact sound of her laughter in his head.
He wanted to strangle every last breath out of her as he peaked at Izuku's red cheeks through the gaps in his fingers. Growling, he reached for the phone. “That's enough out of you. We're alive. You've seen us. Bye. Go die in a ditch.”
Shonetta only continued to laugh as he ended the call, and turned to the table. Without so much as he beat, he pointed at Sumi. 'Breakfast is over. You know the drill. Yoga and then a run. Chop chop. Go get changed. We've got a lot to do today, and not a lot of time to do it.'
Sumi nodded once before turning to Izuku to explain.
'I've got to start heading over to the agency anyway for patrol.' Izuku stood, smiling.
Without missing a beat, Sumi jumped from her chair to wrap her arms around his body and pressed her face into his stomach.
Izuku was taken aback, arms raised to shoulder level as his eyes flicked between Katsuki and Sumi. After a still moment, he let his arms drop around her. He lowered his head, his mouth obscured from Katsuki's views. Sumi grinned up at him before bounding off toward her room.
Izuku turned to look at Katsuki, scrubbing at the back of his head. 'Can I... see you guys again? Tonight maybe?'
“Whatever.” Katsuki pulled Izuku into his body. They tangled together, hips pressed flush, tongues twined, hands on waists and hands in hair. When they parted again, he said, “Gotta make up for five years.” He stared into Izuku's green eyes, brushing a thumb across his cheek. He dropped his eyes to Izuku's lips when he felt them brush against his, pulling back enough just to see what he said.
'Of what?'
“Everything.”
…..
Weeks passed, and things changed. Sumi started going to school. It was weird for her starting Kindergarten in the middle of the school year, but she adjusted well enough.
Katsuki started going back to work. He had more than enough to keep him busy. Relearning the streets and districts of his home city. Figuring out who was still in the city, who was new, and who he would work best with. Reestablishing himself in Japan, and painfully crawling his way up the ranks. Adjusting back to his old hero uniform with the minor adjustments he had made. When he'd gone to America, he hadn't been expecting to stay there for five and a half years, so he hadn't thought to bring his uniform. It wasn't particularly suitable for America anyway, so a uniform had to be made for him while he was there. But just like his original uniform wasn't suitable for America, his overseas uniform wasn't suitable for home.
Izuku became a constant fixture in his and Sumi's life. Every afternoon they came home, it was to Izuku standing on their doorstep. Every night when he fell asleep, it was with Izuku in his arms to soothe the nightmares. Every morning when they left, it was with Izuku beside them. He was around so often and frequently that Katsuki eventually gave him a key, a drawer in his wardrobe and a chunk of space in his closet.
After starting late night patrols again, Izuku was the only one he trusted to watch Sumi. Eventually, he started to let him take over more and more parental responsibilities until they were sharing them as equals instead of Katsuki remaining in his steadfast single parent routine.
He trusted Izuku implicitly, but even that trust was under scrutiny when it came to Sumi.
So, when Katsuki returned home one night with his heat building beneath his skin to Izuku curled on the couch alone, knees pulled to his chest while he watched hero videos, the slightest sliver of betrayal lodge in his chest. “Where's Katsumi? You were supposed to pick her up,” he growled dangerously as he stood behind Izuku, all protective omega father in his voice and stance.
Izuku tilted his head back to look at Katsuki, expression smooth and his scent doing a passable job of being calming. “With your parents and my mother.”
“Why?” Ever so slowly, he began to deflate. He wasn't exactly happy that his daughter was with her grandparents without his knowledge, but happier than if Izuku had forgotten to get her from school.
Blinking slowly, Izuku lifted his head and turned to patiently gaze at him. “We talked about this, remember? When the time came for your heat, Katsumi would stay with your parents and my mom. I know you'll start tomorrow, I could smell it on you every time I passed you on the streets today, but I thought it'd be nice to have a night for ourselves. I wanted to have a date night. Watch a movie, eat some take out, cuddle on the couch. Date nights don't normally include being accompanied by five-year-old daughters.” His expression remained pleasant, but longing crept into his voice. “We haven't spent any time alone together as a couple since you got back. I thought it'd be nice.”
Katsuki stared at him, silent for a long moment while he let his words settle in. Breathing out the spike of betrayal and anger that had stabbed him, he nodded. “Yeah. Okay. I'm going to bathe first. Did you order something already?”
Beaming, Izuku stood on his knees and beckoned Katsuki in for a chaste kiss. “I picked up food from that weird restaurant you like. That one place that has your favorite extra spicy California Roll.”
“Did you get me an extra spicy California Roll?” Katsuki asked, hands resting lightly on Izuku's hips.
Izuku scoffed. “Of course, I did. Do I look stupid to you?” When Katsuki started to open his mouth for a snarky reply, he slapped a hand over his lips. “Don't answer that. Jerk. Just go take your shower.”
Growling low and suggestively in his throat, Katsuki nipped at the soft pads of his fingers, sucking a digit into his mouth for the briefest of moments. When he pulled away, Izuku's face was flaming and he was smirking in satisfaction. “Keep it in your pants for now, Deku. You've got me for three whole days.”
Izuku whined pitifully before slumping back onto the couch in a boneless heap. He pressed his hands over his burning face. “You can't just do stuff like that, Kacchan. I'm not used to it anymore. Especially since we haven't done anything yet.”
Katsuki leaned over the couch, tugging a few fingers away from Izuku's face to look him in the eye. “Yeah, because we were waiting for my first heat together again. Well, it's here now. Prepare yourself because I've got five years of pent up sexual frustration to get out over the next three days.” He grinned viciously.
Again, Izuku whined. “Oh my god, I'm gonna have to go jerk-off or something so I don't cum the moment you touch me.”
Katsuki's smile only grew more vicious. “Do it or don't. You're going to have to figure out a way to satisfy me anyway.”
Izuku squeezed his eyes shut. “Thank god for ruts,” he whispered because when Katsuki's heat hit, Izuku would be catapulted into a rut.
Forty-five minutes later found take-out containers empty and Izuku leaned back against Katsuki's chest while they watched video after video of highlights from All Might's career. They hadn't been able to find a decent movie that they both wanted to watch, and settled for something they were always okay with. Fifteen minutes later though, Izuku turned in Katsuki's arms to face him.
Katsuki raised an eyebrow at him, but remained silent in the face of Izuku's determination.
He pressed close, nipping at Katsuki's lips, coaxing him into a slow make-out session as he crawled his way into Katsuki's laps. Knees on either side of the other hero's hips, he ground languidly down into him.
Hissing, Katsuki ripped their mouths apart as he bucked up into Izuku. “Jesus fuck, Deku, are you trying to make me come in my pants?” He could feel Izuku's smirk against his pulse point rather than see it, and shivered.
“No. But I want you to know I'm going to ride you before anything else. I haven't been filled with anything other than toys in five years. It's all I've been able to think about when we're alone since you got back,” Izuku whispered, breath husky as it ghosted across the exposed skin of Katsuki's ear around his hearing aid, “No one wants to top an alpha. Either way, no one could ever live up to you. You're the best, you always have been. I want you to fill me up. I want you to pin me down and dominate me like only you know how, Kacchan.”
Katsuki groaned deep in his throat, biting shallowly into Izuku's collar bone, fingers bruising against his hips. “And no one wants to be topped by an omega. God,” he breathed, “I've missed you. You're the only alpha I'd waste my time on. No one else could ever compare.” Once upon a time, the admission would have made him embarrassed and then angry at his own embarrassment, but now, it was simply the truth.
“I've never been able to look at anyone else,” Izuku whispered, ducking his head to catch Katsuki's lips again, “You're my only. You're my forever even if I'm not yours.”
Katsuki didn't get the chance to reply as Izuku sealed their mouths together again. They were teeth and tongues and sharp canines and blood mixed with saliva. They were rolling hips and heat and moans and needy pleasure.
“Deku-” Katsuki gasped, but Izuku swallowed down his own name.
“Bedroom, Kacchan, please. I need you,” Izuku gasped between kisses and panted breaths. He moaned into Katsuki's mouth when Katsuki gripped his ass and effortlessly lifted them from the couch. Arms twined around shoulders, legs wrapped around that ever so slender waist.
They tumbled into bed with foreheads pressed together and gasped laughter.
It was hours later, after Katsuki had taken Izuku, allowed Izuku to manhandle his protheses off and his heat had fully set in that Izuku said anything. “I want to exchange mating bites.”
Katsuki was panting, face pressed into the sheets as his body wound back up for another cresting wave of his heat. His mind was hazed with lust, muzzy and indistinct, but he understood that clearly enough. “Still?” He was just curious, but he couldn't tell what his voice sounded like. Sarcastic? Accusatory? Interested?
“I never stopped wanting to,” Izuku whispered while he gently guided Katsuki onto his back and then to sit up so he could press a water bottle to his mouth. “I've only ever wanted to be with you, Kacchan. Ever since we were little. Even when we weren't anything more than rivals.”
Katsuki accepted the water gratefully while Izuku proceeded to wipe his body down with a warm, damp cloth. “I thought you would have stopped after I disappeared without even a text. For keeping Katsumi from you. All of it.”
Leaving the cloth in the bathroom sink, Izuku climbed back onto the bed behind him. He pulled Katsuki flush against his chest, hooking his chin over his shoulder. “No, I'm a stubborn as you are.”
Katsuki pressed back into Izuku, tilting his head so their temples were pressed together. “I don't think I'm ready,” he whispered, eyes closed as he tried to think through his jumbled thoughts.
“There's no rush. You don't ever have to accept. I'll wait for a long as you need even if that means waiting forever. I'm very patient.”
“It won't be forever, idiot. Just... not yet.” Turning his head more completely towards Izuku, he growled, “Now, less talking, more kissing.”
“Needy,” Izuku said with a giggle, but gave him what he wanted all the same.
…..
Katsuki was just walking into the office after his shift -nine in the morning, no coffee since midnight, no Katsumi since the morning before- and he was frustrated. The night hadn't been a good one, and with blood still drying in crusty patches all over his uniform, he was as unhappy as they could come. He just wanted to see his daughter for the first time in what felt like days and cuddle with her and his alpha on the couch.
“Kat! Thank god!” Kirishima shouted, running towards him. He wrapped strong fingers around his bicep, dragging him towards his office. “Come with me. Have you heard?”
“Good fucking morning to you too,” Katsuki snarled, but out of pure mental exhaustion, allowed himself to be dragged into his best friend's office. The door slammed shut behind them, and Katsuki went to raid Kirishima's coffee counter when he was released. “What the fuck's up with you anyway? It's too early in your shift to be acting like a jackass.”
Standing by his door, Kirishima rung his hands, staring out the clouded glass window instead of looking at Katsuki.
When he remained silent, Katsuki snarled and stepped into his space. “What the fuck is going on, Eiji?”
Kirishima jolted, head dropping in submission.
Katsuki stomach curdled with a sudden rush of nausea. It had been a long time since he'd seen Kirishima bare the back of his neck to him, and the last time he had, Izuku had been in a coma with no chance of recovering anytime in his immediate future. He gripped Kirishima's shoulder tightly, positive that his anxiety was being transferred through every pore. “What the fuck is going on?”
Whining, Kirishima covered his hand with his own, “I'm not supposed to tell you. The boss told me to just keep you out of the way so they can handle it.”
“If you don't fucking tell me, I'm just going to go out there and find out what the fuck is going on myself!”
“The- Uh- Your-” Kirishima groaned, scrubbing a hand through his hair. “Some villains have taken a kindergarten school hostage. The call just came through a few minutes ago. The boss and some of the others have already gone-”
Shoving Kirishima aside, Katsuki tore through the door, heart beating a million miles an hour. 'Not again! Not again! Not again!' He burst into the sky towards Katsumi's school, sun bright and hot overhead. He could see the specks of other heroes moving in the same direction, then he saw a flash of green lightning disappear between the buildings.
He wanted to call out. He wanted Katsumi to be safe. He wanted Izuku to be safe. He wanted them both in his arms, and for none of this to be happening. He stumbled to a stop down the street from the school, just like he had the first time. When he saw the flames, his vision went black.
…..
When he came to, it was to the feeling of his breath wheezing in and out, warm familiar weight pressed against his chest, and Izuku staring straight at the ceiling with a far away expression. His fingers worked over something in his palm. His eyes were red, cheeks tear stained. His uniform was bloody and torn, but for once, he was whole. It felt like the first time Katsuki had ever seen him completely unbroken after a battle. Only thing was, he couldn't actually remember what had happened in this battle.
Agonizingly slow, he turned his head to look down at his chest. Katsumi laid there curled in the smallest ball possible, her own face tear stained and her legs removed. Her mane of green hair was tangled and dusted with dirt and ash.
He went to lift his arm, the one she wasn't sleeping on, but found only his stump. Frowning, he turned to glare at it. His mind was what he suspected was drug slow, and he couldn't really understand why his prostheses and hearing aids had been removed. He hadn't gotten that hurt, there was no way.
Lifting his eyes, Izuku was staring at him with a mouth all misshapen like a soft noodle and tears pouring down his face.
'Don't cry, idiot,' he wanted to say, but his hand was held captive and he wasn't sure if his voice was audible. He only knew that when he tried to speak, pain bloomed in his throat. Closing his eyes, his throat vibrated with a groan.
Fingers balled up the front of his gown, pulling the neckline taught against the back of his neck. A hard line pressed into his chest, and Izuku's fists shook against him.
'Don't. Cry. Izuku,' Katsuki tried again, and again, there was pain. He'd been expecting it this time so he was able to crack his eyes open despite the pain.
Izuku was sobbing against his body, forehead pressed to his chest. Head so close to Sumi's that their hair mingled, dirty and green and beautifully curly.
In his chest, Katsuki's heart silently swelled and burst when Sumi extracted a hand from beneath her body to pat Izuku's curls. Closing his eyes, a hot tear tracked down Katsuki's cheek with the sheer relief of having them both with him. He couldn't remember the battle, but for the second time, his daughter's school had been attacked. For the second time, he'd been close to losing her. This scene before him could have ended up as a very different one.
Katsuki could feel Izuku's lips moving against his chest, breath rapid fire with words he couldn't hear. He only opened his eyes again when he felt small fingers press to his ear.
Sumi wasn't looking at him, but instead at Izuku, tugging against his hair to get him to lift his head. When he finally complied, eyes blurry with fat tears, she tapped on Katsuki's ears before pointing to her own.
Izuku's eyes darted up to Katsuki's face. After a moment of staring, he scrubbed quickly at his eyes before stepping away towards a table that had four prosthetic limbs and three bags on it. Sitting back down, calmer than before even though his lips were still that same soft noodle shape, he handed Sumi one hearing aid.
Together, they hooked Katsuki back up. Very carefully, Sumi turned them on, staring at his face intently as she turned the volume up.
The beeping of his heart monitor faded into existence followed by Sumi's and Izuku's breathing. “Good,” he said, and his voice was barely a croak passed the pain. Wincing, he lifted his unpinned hand to his throat.
Izuku and Sumi reached for his hand at the same time, stopping him from touching his throat. “The doctor said not to touch,” Sumi told him.
Katsuki raised an eyebrow over at Izuku.
Tears crowded Izuku's eyes immediately again, and tracked down his face. His voice trembled as he whispered, “You were really hurt, Kacchan. The villain got you by the throat. You were fighting her alone while everyone else was either fighting the rest of her gang or rushing to evacuate the kids and staff. I couldn't get to you fast enough. I thought you were going to die. I felt so useless seeing you like that.”
“Now you know how it feels, dumbass.” Gritting his teeth, he breathed through the pain.
“Don't call Daddy that! It's mean!” Katsumi glared at him, lip puckered in a pout and her own big red eyes beginning to fill with tears. Her lip trembled, and then she was sniffling as her tears fell. “I-I was so scared, Papa. I thought you were gonna leave me and Daddy alone. I don't want you to die, Papa.”
Katsuki pulled her in against his chest, pressing as kiss to her forehead and holding her tight. When he looked to Izuku, he held out his stump, motioning him forward.
Izuku crowded in against his side, and the two loves of his life cried against him for long enough that their tears soaked his gown and the hard edge digging into his shoulder from Deku's palm pissed him off. “Deku, what the fuck is in your hand?” he growled through gritted teeth, “It fucking hurts.”
“Papa, you have foul language,” Katsumi whispered, but didn't pull away from him.
Izuku jumped away from him, his tears abruptly stopping as roses bloomed in his cheeks. He stammered and stammered and stammered a whole lot of nonsense until Katsumi's giggles interrupted him. “Sumi!” he cried.
“Just show him, Daddy! You don't have to be nervous!”
“Oh, yes I do!” Izuku argued back, “He could say no!”
Katsumi waved away his concern. “He's not gonna say no.”
“He might! I think I might know him just a little more after knowing him longer than you have!”
“Not in the last five years! I know him the best. He's gonna say yes.”
“How about you let 'him' decide for himself since he's sitting right here,” Katsuki interjected before the banter could continue any further, “Just spill it, Deku. My head's all fuzzy and my throat hurts, and I'm annoyed that my daughter knows more about whatever this is than I do.” Oh. Oh, he was going to regret all that talking later. He already was.
Izuku's eyes flickered between Sumi and Katsuki until he finally swallowed thickly. “Don't try to kill me. The doctors only stitched up the hole in your side a few hours ago.” He closed his eyes tightly.
Katsuki blinked rapidly at his alpha, those words sticking on repeat in his head. There had been a hole in his side? Just how much had the villains fucked him up? Well, clearly enough to land him in the hospital with some very good drugs running through his veins. Drugs that were clearly impairing his thought process.
'Not the point right now, dumbass,' Katsuki silently reprimanded himself.
'Alpha offer. Alpha wants. Give to alpha. Care for alpha,' his omega chanted, nearly prancing from one side to the other, 'Alpha offer family. Alpha offer commitment. Take. Agree.'
Izuku hadn't even opened his hand yet, so Katsuki turned a snarl inward, 'Shut the fuck up, and stop jumping to conclusions.'
'Omega conclusions. Our conclusions. Want. Take. Mate. Alpha. Family.'
Mentally rolling his eyes, Katsuki tried to ignore his omega's constant stream of consciousness in exchange for watching Izuku closely. Slowly, his fingers uncurled, and Katsuki's brain completely shut off. The monitor over his shoulder picked up its pace. His omega began to leap for joy in his chest, each jump punctuated by a beat of his heart.
When Katsuki just continued to stare, Izuku cautiously opened his eyes and with his mouth set in an uncertain line, opened the box. In a cushion of black velvet, a gold ring with two diamonds and a single emerald sat unobtrusively. “I've had it for awhile, but I was trying to get up the courage to actually ask you. I've never really thought about it, but after you came back, I couldn't stop thinking about it. And after the attack, I realized that I don't have the luxury of being afraid.” Inhaling deeply, Izuku finally met Katsuki's eyes. “I want to spend my entire life with you and Katsumi. I want to be your husband, your mate, a father to our daughter and everything in between. If you weren't in a hospital bed right now, I'd get down on one knee, but since you are, I'll just ask. Katsuki Bakugou, will you marry me?”
Completely speechless, Katsuki just continued to stare down at the ring in Izuku's hands. He realized Izuku's hands were shaking about the same time he realized that his eyes were filling with tears.
“K-Kacchan?”
“Papa! Answer Daddy!” Sumi cried, bouncing excitedly beside him on the bed, grinning from ear to ear. “Come on! Come on! Come on!”
Instead of answering aloud, Katsuki just stuck out his hand.
A sigh exploded from Izuku's chest. “Thank god,” he whispered, setting the box off to the side as he took Katsuki's hand in his mangled ones to slip the ring on his finger.
Katsuki dragged him forward, pressing their mouths together while Sumi cheered loud enough that a nurse peaked into the room. “One condition. You stop running headlong into situations that will get you killed,” he said.
“Okay, but only as long as you don't end up in situations that land you in a hospital bed. My heart can't handle it,” Izuku whispered against his lips, eyes still closed even though Katsuki's eyes were open again, “I can't go through this again. I don't want Katsumi to go through it again. You two have been through enough.”
“All three of us, but now you know how I felt every time I saw you in a hospital bed.” Izuku didn't need to open his eyes for Katsuki to see him roll them.
Sumi wiggled her way between them. “Does that mean Daddy is going to come live with us from now on?”
“I wasn't aware that he wasn't already,” Katsuki said snarkily.
“Yay!” Sumi swung around on the bed to face the nurse and Best Jeanist who was now beside her. “My Daddy and Papa are going to get married! And when Papa gets pregnant again, I'm going to have a little brother and maybe even a little sister! And Uncle Eiji is going to be Best Man, and oh! Uncle Tsu! You can be ring bearer! Wait, no! I'm going to be ring bearer, but you can walk with me!”
A thin blonde eyebrow rose, but Best Jeanist didn't say anything as Izuku and Katsuki began to splutter.
“Woah!” Katsuki croaked, pain thrumming through his neck, but he couldn't stop, “Who said I was gonna give you a brother, little monster? You're already enough. Just be happy with your cousins.”
As their banter continued between the three of them around and around, Katsuki couldn't find it in himself to be embarrassed with Best Jeanist and the nurse's eyes on them. This was his family. This was his mate and his daughter. When their wedding day came, he was going to scream that truth from the rooftops.
He'd never been happier in his life.

BakuDeku Fanfic; A Confession
Warning: Confession, kiss, death, wounds, fighting, crying ( at least I cried ), very gay
Bakugo was sitting in a hospital waiting room, sleeping against the wall from exhaustion, surrounded by his fellow classmates. Looking around, he saw all the UA faculty, every 1-A student, and then Deku’s mom on the verge of tears. What... had happened?
Then it all came back to him like one great flashback...
The League of Villains had infuriated the USJ, and Deku happened to be in the middle of it all. Everyone had been so busy trying to save their own lives, nobody saw Izuku fighting Dabi, covered in scorching burns and bruises from his fighting.
Izuku’s leg had been so burned it felt like Jello, so he couldn’t run and barely even move. Izuku was good, but no match for flames and heat unlike anything else he had ever felt before.
“Deku! Get away from him!” All Might yelled, as all of 1-A turned to see Izuku fighting Dabi while on the ground. Then... Bakugo started running. Even though he could hear yells, he kept running. He was going to attack Dabi from behind and then save Izuku.
But then... Deku looked at him. “Bakugo! Behind you!” Bakugo didn’t even have time to turn around before Izuku used all this power to launch Bakugo away to safety. Turns out Izuku had just saved Bakugo from a Nomu running towards him. Instead of the Nomu attacking Katsuki, it turned towards Izuku.
Immediately, it began punching the sense out of Izuku, knocking out the wind so he couldn’t breathe. As Bakugo watched, Izuku was becoming pale, and was near passing out.
“Aizawa-Sensei! We have to do something! We can’t let him die!” Ochako yelled, but it was no use.
Aizawa had been beaten senseless, and everyone knew that they were beyond repair. “Fuck this!” Todoroki used his last bit of energy to make an ice wall between Izuku and Nomu, desperately trying to separate the two and pushing Izuku into the water for safety.
That’s when the pro heroes arrived, knocking their way through the glass and running after the League and to help the kids.
“No, get Deku!” Bakugo yelled as a rescue hero walked towards him. But as Bakugo turned to see Deku, Deku wasn’t there anymore. Did they kidnap him?! Where was Deku?!
“Quick! He’s in the water! He’s drowning!” Ochako yelled from afar, pointing to where Todoroki had pushing him into the water. Bakugo, being the closest to the water, immediately jumped in, swimming down to reach the small-framed boy. Bringing him above the water, and onto the land, Bakugo slowly did CPR. “Deku! Deku! Don’t die on me!” Bakugo didn’t even notice when tears wept their way down his face.
“Please Deku!” Bakugo was now screaming as the pro heroes had to pry Izuku’s body out of Bakugo’s hands and into the ambulance. “P-please, let me go with him! Don’t take him away from me! Don’t let him die!” Bakugo yelled, being held down by a random hero and a few students while he kicked and screamed.
In the distance, many voices could be heard. “He’s losing blood!”, “There’s so much water in his lungs!”, “These burns are 3rd degree!”, and lastly... “His pulse is barely detectable!”
The students sadly watched the ambulance drive away before being forced to go back to the school. Present Mic was made to sub for Aizawa, who was sitting with Izuku. Hizashi tried to make them smile, but they couldn’t.
Deku would probably die.
So here they were, in their PJ’s at 4 am, waiting for the doctors to give them any updates. Nobody had wanted to go back to the dorms, so everyone squished into the waiting room, eating donuts and coffee brought by Present Mic. Even Aizawa was awake, slowly rocking back and fourth, shaking as Present Mic tried to comfort him. “If I could have been the hero he needed...” Aizawa murmured as Present Mic kiss his cheek, trying to make him feel better.
The room was silent, as you could hear a pin drop. That’s when the doctor walked in.
“He’s awake. We aren’t sure for long, but only one visitor at a time.” Immediately Aizawa stood up. “I’m his teacher!” while Deku’s mother stood up. “I’m his mom!” The doctor sighed, wiping a tear from his eye. “We are not sure if he is going to survive the night, so we are taking his first request. Is there a... Kacchan here?”
The doctor asked, Katsuki crying to hear the nickname only Deku was allowed to call him as the room went silent. Immediately Bakugo stood, holding back tears as he followed the doctor into the hospital room.
It smelled like bleach, and was very taunting with blank white everywhere. Bakugo honestly was scared, even terrified.
“D-Deku.” Katsuki ran to Deku’s side, gripping his hand. “Kacchan, you tried to save me.” Deku smiled, lightly squeezing Katsuki’s hand. “You did save me Deku.” Bakugo started crying.
“Now don’t you go dying on me, okay?! You’re a fucking hero. I’ll die without you.” Izuku’s eyes widened at Bakugo’s words. “Oh my god De- Izuku. I am so sorry for everything. I guess it takes a near-death experience for me to realize that I love you Deku.” Deku started crying. “I’ll die without you Izuku.”
Deku smiled, touching Katsuki’s face. “Don’t say that Kacchan. Dammit, why do you have to do this now? I love you to Kacchan. I always have.” Katsuki started sobbing, and he didn’t hold back. He was going to lose Deku.
“I’m so sorry Deku. I’ll never forgive myself.” Deku just smiled innocently, as if he weren’t hooked up to a million cables and monitors.
“Oh Kacchan, don’t be silly. I’ve already lived a good life. I got a quirk, I got into UA, I got to feel what it’s like to save a life, I’ve felt what love is like, I’ve made friends. I’ve done more than most adults. If it’s my time it’s my-” Deku got quiet as the machine next to him started beeping juristically.
Immediately the room was filled with nurses and doctors, pushing Katsuki away. “No.” Bakugo felt Aizawa grab him from behind. “Bakugo, we all need to leave.” Aizawa commanded as Bakugo fought against him. It was like everything went silent as Aizawa covered Bakugo’s eyes and forced him into the hallways.
“No. No.” Bakugo couldn’t scream, it was as if his voice box had been stolen from him. His heart felt like it was broken, he felt as if he couldn’t breathe.
As Bakugo entered the room, everyone read the look on his face and started crying, hugging together in one big group.
“I think it’s all best if you guys go to your own homes for a few days. Go home, go see your parents, go hug your families.” Aizawa told the kids as they nodded, still crying as they left. “K-Katsuki.” Bakugo turned to see Ms. Midoryia, her face stained from all the tears.
“He told you didn’t he?” She was smiling sadly, tears streaming down her face without her making a peep. “Y-yea.” Bakugo squeaked, trying not to cry. “You’re a good kid. I hope you know... that without you he never would have done any of this. Never UA, never meeting All Might, never wanting to become a hero. My Izuku wouldn’t be... Izuku if it weren’t for you. So... thank you.” It took everything in Bakugo’s power not to cry in front of Deku’s poor mom.
Bakugo nodded, hugging Deku’s mom tightly before running out of the hospital to join the rest of his class.
Before Bakugo knew it, the class was back in session. It had been an entire week since the incident at the hospital, and everyone was still more than depressed. Even Aizawa was half an hour late, which never happened.
“M-maybe he didn’t want to come.” Ochako suggested as Tsu piped in. “I hope Mic doesn’t sub. I hate the corny dad jokes. They get old really fast.” A few of the students nodded in agreement as All Might walked in, but not in his superior form.
“Students, sorry to keep you waiting. I am happy to announce that-”
Izuku walked through the door, smiling weakly. He was bandaged, bruised all over, cut on his face, and his hair was extra fuzzy. But... he was alive!
The entire class erupted they leapt out of their seat to hug Izuku, jumping up and down in overwhelming happiness.
“Deku.” Katsuki stood there, looking Izuku up and down. He felt as if he were dreaming. “Kacchan.” Izuku whispered as Katsuki ran up to him and kissed him passionately. His Deku was alive. His Deku was in his arms. His Deku was kissing him.
Bakugo was never letting go of his Deku ever again.

Reckless
Audacity
Part 1
Aideku
Aizawa x Izuku
||
"Izu. You've got to come out. It's been two weeks!" He can hear Kacchan banging on the door outside of his new apartment.
Because he had to move out.
Because the love of his life cheated on him.
Then lied to him and then convinced him that it was his fault that he cheated.
He was doing fantastic and life couldn't be better. Please know how sarcastic he's being. Because he uses sarcasm now.
It's the fifth time Kacchan had come over this week. He had let Izuku stay with him for a few nights but he didn't want to impose on his best friend right after he'd basically cut the man out of his life for his asshole husband who he still loved. So he found an apartment not too far from Katsuki's which was convenient for multiple reasons. It was close to his job when he went in and avoided everyone and just go on patrol till he was forced to go home. He had to keep up his appearances because he worked too hard to claim his title as the symbol of hope to just let it slip away from him. Even when he was working the night shift for his manipulative asshole husband he still worked hard to maintain his status in the hero community.
He owed it to himself, Katsuki and all the other little kids that grew up with a less than ideal life. Katsuki fought with him when he switched his hours to night shift because it meant he wasn't able to do the day raids needed to take down villainous operations when they were least expecting it. They did raids at night but the ones that really truly made differences were the ones they did during the day. The ones to take down the drug lords and sex trades and human trafficking rings. Katsuki was pissed at, not so much Izuku but at Shouta. Him being on the outside of the relationship but having a close bond with both of the men, he saw what was happening and almost went on a rampage. The only thing that kept him from blowing the raven's head right off his body was Izuku's broken and desperate eyes begging him not too.
He should have done it anyway and dealt with an angry Izuku.
He and Katsuki had come so far since their middle school days of the blonde being his bully. Katsuki came out with it the summer before they started high school and admitted to him he was gay and terrified that Izuku would look at him different so he'd bullied him to try to get Izuku to leave him before he could hate him for reasons he couldn't control. The dumb ass came to his senses after his father had gotten sick and he thought he had no one he could really turn too. Till he found himself subconsciously walking to Izuku's house a few blocks down. He took one look at his best friend's concerned freckled face and knew he fucked up.
The blonde cried in his best friend's arms the entire night and spilled his soul to him the morning after. Izuku punched him in the arm hard enough to bruise and explained to him why he was stupid. Izuku could never hate him for being gay because he was too. Izuku explained to him that Katsuki could honest to Kami cut off his arm and he'd still be Izuku's best friend. They laughed and cried some more and then got up to make themselves and Izuku's mom breakfast.
They'd been inseparable from that day on once more until all of this with Shouta happened. Izuku had felt so guilty for abandoning his best friend. He felt ashamed and scared that Katsuki would hate him for leaving their friendship for his marriage.  Katsuki tried to explain to him that there was nothing and no reason  that could ever make it okay for Izuku's husband to step out of their relationship. Tried to get him to see that his husband was making up excuses but Izuku didn't want to hear any of it at that time. He screamed and yelled and swore up and down that it was his fault that Shouta cheated. That he wasn't giving his husband and their relationship enough attention and focusing too much on becoming the symbol of hope. He cried in Katsuki's arms sobbing that it was all his fault and Katsuki simply told him, "I hate what he's done to you" before he let go of Izuku and walked out of their shared office in their agency they built from the ground up together like they always dreamed of doing.
Izuku didn't bother to put on a shirt as he made his way towards his front door. He turned the latches and undid the deadbolt and let the door creak it's way open to allow his best friend back into his life finally.
"Fucking finally, Nerd. I've been knocking on this door since Sunday. It's Thursday." Katsuki shuffles Izuku backwards and back into his apartment not letting Izuku say anything otherwise. "This place is disgusting. We're cleaning up and then heading out. And don't fucking fight with me. You need out of this place and I will drag you by your damn ear if you try to say a damn word against it. Try me Izuku." Kacchan glare at him from across the room. Blankets, empty  ice cream cartons and pizza boxes litter the floor between them. When Izuku just nods and gives him a watery smile Katsuki huffs and gestures him to come hug him. Izuku runs over to him and is about to wrap his arms around his best friend but is stopped by a hand to the face shoving him back. "Nope. You smell gross. I've come up with a new plan. You go take a fucking shower, I'll clean up and then we head out." Izuku is shoved towards the hallway where his bathroom and bedroom are located. "You need to not smell like the inside of an elephant's ass."
With that Katsuki walks back to the living room and kitchen where he hears garbage bags being opened. Izuku huffs in determination to not waste his life away in this apartment anymore and grabs a pair of bright orange boxer briefs and heads to the bathroom to take his shower.
Izuku doesn't really own anything black or dark grey anymore, it hurt to look at the colors that the love of his life wears on a daily basis. He still had black jeans, dishes, his favorite coffee mug,  underwear and undershirts and such.  It would be ridiculous if he didn't have anything black or dark grey in his possession,  but he just can't stand to look at the colors anymore. They don't bring the comfort they once did, the sense of belonging and home.
He also changed his shampoo and conditioner scent, his soap, deodorant and threw out his favorite cologne. He didn't want a single thing that reminded him of his husband. He wanted to find and be Izuku Midoriya  once more. He's been Izuku Aizawa for so long, been 'Kitten' even longer and he doesn't know who he is without Shouta anymore so he's decided to start fresh and new. It hurt so much. Almost everything around him  had his heart clenching in pain and dread. He misses sleeping next to Shouta, missing sleeping all together. It took more than a lot to get used to sleeping alone and he was contemplating getting a dog to share his space with. He'd have to move out of this apartment and find a pet friendly one but it would be worth it to have someone to share his home with again and find some sense of normalcy.
He quickly finished his shower and towel dried himself off, slipped on his underwear and stepped out the bathroom to head back to his bedroom to get clothes. He made his way in and found a set of clothes laid out on his bed.
"You don't know how to dress yourself if it's not your hero costume." Katsuki was leaning against his door frame with his arms crossed and signature scowl on his face. "Get dressed, I'm done cleaning. We're heading out in fifteen." Katsuki closes the door and Izuku is left to himself once again.
He looks to the outfit and thanks Kami that Katsuki didn't go crazy with the outfit and it actually looked really comfortable. It was his dark purple acid washed skinny jeans, and a  pastel purple t-shirt that had 't-shirt' written across it. He's surprised to see it, he knows how much his blonde friend hates those shirts.   He quickly gets dressed and was proven right, that it was indeed comfortable. He was grateful. He grabbed the hoodie hanging off his closet door handle and walked out the room to his now spotless and citrus smelling living room.
"How did you-" He turns to Katsuki with a raised eyebrow but was cut off with a glare.
"Don't question my magic. You'll insult me and my abilities." There was movement coming from the kitchen but Katsuki was standing still in front of him in the living room.
"You mean my magic, right?" Shouto comes walking around the corner out of his kitchen with a small smirk in the corner of his lips.
"When did you-" Izuku starts to question when his other best friend appeared inside his apartment but is once again cut off.
"I'm the one that called you and started cleaning before you got here so no, my magic, you bastard." Shouto rolls his eyes and gives them a rare wide smile.
"Sure babe. My bad." Shouto makes his way into the living room and brings Izuku into a warm hug. "Katsuki told me you finally let him in and called me over. You were still in the shower when I got here so I helped clean up. How're you holding up?" Shouto pulls back from the hug and looks at him with a deep concern.
"I'm doing great. Can't you tell?" Izuku gives the couple a shaky smile and takes in a deep breath trying to keep the tears right where they are behind his eyes. He's pulled into the hug again with a second set of arms wrapping around both him and Shouto.
"You don't smell like an elephant's ass anymore but what in the fucking hell is this smell combination you've got going on?" Katsuki wrinkles his nose and Shouto's nose scrunches in distaste when he finally catches a sniff of Izuku.
"I love you Zu, but  uh ew." Shouto slowly releases him and takes a step back along with Katsuki.
His ears turn a bright red from embarrassment. "Shouta was the one that always got the shampoo, conditioner and body wash. It was always the same thing and I had an anxiety attack when I tried to shower with it all last week. So I grabbed random things off the shelf and said 'fuck it'." He shrugs his shoulders.
The two across from him cock their heads to the side and scrunch their eyebrows in confused concern.
"Fuck it"? The two asked him in unison.
Izuku shrugs and turns towards his front door to put his favorite red shoes on. He misses the look the couple share behind him and the silent conversation they have. It's interrupted when Izuku's phone lets out a quiet jingle that slowly gets louder till Izuku declines the call. He looked upset to the duo behind him and knew who was trying to get a hold of Izuku's attention.
"Give me the phone." Shouto startles the other two with his blunt and forceful voice. He's set his face to stone and holds out his hand, waiting patiently for Izuku to comply to the demand. The phone starts to ring again and Shouto narrows his eyes at the green haired man standing in front of him. "Now, Izuku." With that he's handed the phone and walks out of the house with a promise to be back momentarily.
"How many times have you answered his call?" Katsuki is soft with his words and puts a hand on his shoulder.
"To many times. He won't give me a real reason why he did it. Or why he lied to me. He won't explain anything just keeps asking for a second chance. I can't Kat. I can't look at him the same and I feel like all of this is my fault." He's taken into Katsuki's arms once again just as his voice breaks and the tears finally start to fall and stream down his face.
"I'm sure Sho is going to have him stop. He needs to first give you time to process the fuckery he did and then he needs to accept whatever decision you make for your relationship." He's given a squeeze around his shoulders and he sobs loudly into the blonde's chest.
He cries for a few more moments and by the time he calms his breathing Shouto is back in the house and has slipped his phone into his back pocket and joined the hug. "Everything hurts. All over. I can't stop crying. I can't sleep." He lets out a frustrated growl and roughly drags his hands through his hair, pulling as he went. "I already know what I'm doing but it's so hard. I can't look at him the same. I don't want him to touch me. I just-" He takes a deep breath and deflates. "I just want a divorce. I don't think I could trust him again like I used too. He cheated on me and then succeeded in making me think it was my fault and let me destroy myself for a whole six months. He was ready to let me throw away everything. My career. My passion. My best friend. Everything." He clenches his hands by his sides and he clenches his teeth in ways that his dentist would despise. "He can tell me he loves me all he wants, but you don't do what he did to the person you love."
Shouto is behind him and rubs his hands up and down his arms, trying to sooth the brokenhearted man in front of him. The dual haired and blonde have seen the once ray of sunshine in front of them cry more times than they could ever count but these cries were different. These were from deep in his soul and heart wrenching, the sorrow he let out had them both seeing red. Such an amazing human should never feel the way he does. He doesn't deserve what happened to him.
"We'll help you, Izuku." Shouto brings attention to himself with the promise he makes.
"With whatever you need. We'll be here for you." Katsuki adds on for good measure. He lost his best friend for half a year. Over his cold dead body was he allowing anything else to happen to his friend. "We love you, Zu."
Izuku gives Shouto's hand that stopped on his shoulder a squeeze in thanks and gives Katsuki a wobbly and watery smile. "Thank you. I appreciate it you guys. I appreciate the both of you."
It's quiet for a moment before Katsuki reaches the absolute end of the amount of mushy he could handle. "Alright! Enough crying! Let's go. We've got shit to do. Starting with getting you something normal to fucking shower with, fuck!" He storms off towards the front door and only pauses to put his shoes on before he's got the door open and demanding for the other two to hurry up.
Shouto rolls his eyes and ushers Izuku towards the door. "Let's go before he leaves us and we have to walk to wherever the hell he plans on going." There's a chuckle in his voice and Izuku has no choice but to giggle because they both know that Shouto speaks from experience for the both of them. They grab Izuku's set of keys and quickly lock up before running to Katsuki who already had his car running and looked like he was about to drive off without them.
That day on Katsuki and Shouto went over to Izuku's new apartment and made sure he wasn't falling any further into the depressive hole he'd dug himself into. They helped him file for divorce and let him cry himself out in either of their arms after they all three went down to the courthouse to turn in the paperwork. It would be another week before Shouta received the paperwork but Izuku was determined to go through with it.
He was taking a stand for himself and not backing down to the sweet words that his soon to be ex husband begged him to come back with. The sweet man he once saw in Shouta Aizawa was skewed and he didn't think he'd ever be able to let him back into his heart the way he had him for 15 years. Maybe after Izuku healed and felt more like himself he would sit down with the man and try to get actual answers from him but for now he didn't want any half asses excuses. He didn't want the begging. The apologies that didn't seem as heartfelt as they seemed. Izuku still loved Shouta but he couldn't trust him, couldn't believe in his words any longer.
For now Izuku had what he wanted and needed. He had himself. He had his childhood best friend that would literally kill for him. He had his herteochomatic best friend that has proven time and time again he'd stick with Izuku through whatever life threw at them. He had his agency he built and ran with his now two best friends after bringing Shouto in as a shareholder over the company. He had the children, young and full grown adult looking up to him as he slowly changed how the world worked. He had found that he had all that he needed staring at him in the face for the longest time.
And he found that he didn't need Shouta to make his dreams come true. All he needed was himself and the support of his friends.
*BONUS*
"Give me the phone." Shouto stared at the device in Izuku's hand trying to restrain himself from taking it from the man. His best friend was hurt more and more and not being allowed to mourn and heal every time that phone rang. He was pissed. The phone lit up and started ringing once more with Shouta's name displayed across the screen. That wasn't even a full minute from the last call that rang through the near empty apartment. 'Keep the flames in check Sho. You're inside a very flammable apartment right now.' "Now, Izuku."
He's finally handed the ringing phone and he doesn't hesitate to step past the broken green man and step outside. Izuku doesn't need to hear what he's got to say.
He slides his thumb across the screen to answer the call and puts the phone up to his ear. Before the expletives can flow out of his mouth he's interrupted. "Kitten I know. You don't want to hear it but please. Please come home. Let's work on this. I miss you. The kids miss you. We just want you back home. We can work on this. This doesn't have to be our end." He can hear that the man is tired. That makes Shouto happy.
"You've got some fucking nerve, Shouta. Your balls must drag on the fucking ground for you to be calling Izuku back to back for only he knows how fucking long." He can hear the man on the other end try to make a rebuttal or comment or something but Shouto's not having any of it. "No! How fucking dare you!? After what you did? Where the fuck do you get off dragging Izuku's heart and soul through a damn minefield and then have the audacity to call him and try to make him feel bad leaving you? This is your last call to Izuku. This is your last call to him till he calls you. And I swear to whatever deity there may be if I find out you've tried to come and see him I will skin you alive till e very single nerve you have is on display and then let Katsuki do whatever the fuck he wants. Using him as an excuse to manipulate Izuku. The only reason you're still walking around right now Shouta and aren't in a wheel chair, hospitalized or otherwise is because that would hurt Izuku even more than you already have. Try me Shouta. I really fucking dare you too." His teeth are clenched and he's nearly panting with trying to keep himself from bursting into furious flames. Shouta used to be a good friend of his, truly. But Izuku is his best friend that drug him out of a dark place and saved his life in more ways and times than he could possibly keep track of. Izuku came before all and above all.
"I understand." Were the last words he heard before he heard the line go silent. Shouto takes a few deep breaths and flexes his hand that isn't holding Izuku's phone and calms himself down before he steps back into the apartment he'd just left.
He walks in to a loudly sobbing Izuku wrapped up in his boyfriend's arms. He looks Katsuki in the eyes and see them on fire. Katsuki had been taking all of what's been happening harder than Shouto but that was to be expected. Shouto just took a few steps forward, slipped the phone in Izuku's back pocket and joined the hug.
They were going to do everything they could to get the ray of sunshine back, come hell or high water.
That was a promise.

Hi! *waves* Do you know of any love songs that could go with bakudeku? The only playlists I can find on youtube generally have ones about arguing, or unhealthy relationships and it just makes me sad everytime-and I'm about as knowledgable as the average avacado with the romance genre in any and every sense, so uhm-do you have any song recs for them at all? Thanks either way!
Okay I’ve spent so much time thinking about this and looking through lyrics, because I also hate how often people depict their relationship as unhealthy. But I think I might be just as much of an avocado as you...maybe even more so...a lot of “romantic” songs I know are about heart break (what’s up with that?) And just...a lot of them don’t scream “bakudeku” to me. I could give you a list of regular old love songs, because I typically just project onto whatever songs I’m into at the moment! I just force the lyrics to work for me....
For me it can’t just be about lyrics, though, cause it feels weird to have it be a pop song or a slow song when Bakugou is part of the mix. I really feel like the songs need to be hard, but it’s hard to find songs like that that are really romantic. They do have a song for the both of them from the official soundtrack called “Katsuki and Izuku,” which goes pretty hard - pretty sure it was for Kacchan vs. Deku part 2. But I do have a couple I can offer you, just please don’t judge me if they’re not good TT_TT
“Take My Hand” - by Simple Plan. My sister just recommended this one to me, and it’s probably the best one I can think of right now, but even the title is pretty great for bkdk ;)
“Could Have Been Me” - by the Struts. This one isn’t really “romantic,” but I think it still fits! Though tbh it could fit for anyone in class 1a probs? I also like their other song “One Night Only”
“I Think We’re Alone Now” - the Billie Joe Armstrong version, cause let’s be honest, my gay heart feels this - the concern about other people seeing you together. Plus...Billie Joe Armstrong. ‘nuf said
“Everything i wanted” - by Billie Eilish. OKAY I KNOW I SAID NO SLOW SONGS BUT I’ve got a fic that I’m working on (maybe one day I’ll finish it...) titled after this song and honestly...I’ve always headcanoned them being each other’s central emotional support, cause they’re really the only ones they can be completely honest with, and, it’s kinda becoming canon anyway so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“Dance Macabre” - by Ghost. This is my favorite band, and I got into them around the same time I started shipping bkdk - this was the first song I heard of theirs, and the actual meaning behind the song doesn’t fit, like at all, but i really like imagining them fighting together when this plays? Idk it might just be a me thing
“I Melt With You” - by Modern English. Probably the most “romantic” on this post, also it’s from sky high, and I ALSO have a sky high au on the back burner (please release me from this writer hell). Every time I hear this song I go nuts thinking about them dancing together at prom TT_TT (yes I know it was Bowling For Soup in the movie...we don’t talk about it)
And finally, any song from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack makes me think of them because I also have a Dirty Dancing au just sitting there. Waiting for me. Some examples are “I’ve had the time of my life,” “Hungry Eyes,” and “Stay.”
For some more general love songs, I like “Just Like Heaven,” by the Cure; “Take My Breath Away,” by Berlin; “You’re the Inspiration,” by Chicago; “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” by the Proclaimers; “Head Over Heels,” by Tears for Fears; “Untouched,” by the Veronicas; “Hold Me Now,” and “Lay Your Hands On Me,” by the Thompson Twins; “Groceries,” by Mallrat; “Fire - Part 1,” by the Struts; I have like a dozen more 80′s songs I can come up with but it ends up getting a little repetitive, particularly if you’re not that into new wave.
I’m sorry I couldn’t come up with anything better, it makes me super happy to know you came to me! All us bakudekus deserve more positivity I think, and apparently, Horikoshi has decided to give us some, bless his heart. If you ever find you’re lacking songs that fit perfectly, just remember that you can twist those lyrics with your bare hands and mold them into whatever you want! Even if it’s just the feeling the music gives you, it can work!

"Don't let it be forgot, that for one brief, shining moment there was a Camelot." - Jackie
The morning dew has yet to clear. Kyoka finds her gaze drawn to the gleaming drops against the lush green expanse of the lot. It goes out for as far as her eye could see, trickling even into the thicket of oak trees beyond the yard. A wisteria looms over the black gate in the distance, lavender falls obscuring an entire section of it. The fog of the night has begun to lift, but only just. The world remains in a sleepy gray.
Fitting, she supposes, for a day like this.
She turns back to the great white house that stood high above her, taking in the roman pillars on either side of the porch, the double wooden doors, wrap-around porch, and just the sheer majesty of it overwhelms her.
She looks down. 'Trespass and you die.' said the welcome mat. If anything, at least she knows she has the right house. Kyoka steels herself.
The dark cherry wood of the door opens just as she lifts her hand to knock again. A face stares out at her, and it takes a moment for her to recognize her old friend. Age had done him a favor. Grief threatens to take it away. He's blessed with smooth skin, few wrinkles courtesy of his quirk, only a hint of crow's feet.
But his eyes are dull. She remembers them as gleaming rubies-keen, cut sharp enough to kill-always staring at their target with a startling intensity.
This is the color of muddied blood, sickly with dark rims beneath the gaze. Still, she smiles, opening her arms to tug him into a tight embrace.  He doesn't resist. There was a time when such a show of affection would've meant small explosions and screaming, but the morning's silence goes uninterrupted till she dares to murmur,
"Hello Kats. It's good to see you."
He pats her shoulder, still silent as he inclines his head to tuck his chin over her head. His grip tightens once, twice, then he releases her, wordlessly drawing back inside to clear the entryway. She follows. Behind her the door shuts with a creak as she looks about the foyer, quick eyes darting from the marble staircase by the wall, to the glistening chandelier above their heads, then out to the halls. She follows the sound of his fading footsteps, taking her time as she prowls looking from photo to photo of bright smiling faces, a happier golden time.
All the while ignoring the oppressive knells of tragedy that ring out in every corner, rattling her ears till she has to cover the jacks with her hands to reduce the pressure.
"This is a nice place Kats." she calls out, to distract herself. Minutes pass. She doesn't think he's going to answer when a low, raspy voice sounds out,
"...That's right. You missed the housewarming. You were-,"
"In America, covering the war."
She finishes her snooping. Tucking into the dining room where he waited, she looks at how he looms over the bar cart at the other end of the room. The gray cast through the window bathes him in a gaunt light, placing shadows where there should've been none, dimming his usual glow till he himself was a shade. Kyoka makes her way to him slowly, but with each step, the vision steadily gets worse.
Katsuki is by no means an unattractive man, but there's something off. An...unstableness to him. The rumors swirl in the back of her mind but she pushes them away. Time may have made them grow distant, but she still thinks she knows him. Knows what he's capable of. At least, when it comes to her.
"Sorry about that again. Oh, um, just water please," She nods as the man gestures to the drinks on the rolling bar cart.
He puts her drink at the right hand seat of the head of the tables. She take her place with grace, placing her tape recorder and notebook down primly. Gazing out the window, she patiently waits for him to settle with his whiskey.
There are no words of judgement spoken aloud as he takes a hearty swig.
She can feel his eyes on her, and hear the flicker when he turns away, following her gaze out the window to the rolling lush grass, down at the brown bunny who sniffed around in the dew.
"Are you ready?" She asks after a lengthy silence. The clink of ice in his cup is booming.
"As I'll ever be."
Licking her lips, she turns to him, hand already settled on the tape recorder. He doesn't shift his gaze from the hare in the lawn. There's something indiscernible moving around in his eyes.
Clicking the record button, she begins,
"July 25th. 8: 12 AM. I'm sitting with Katsuki Bakugou hero alias Ground Zero, the Symbol of Victory, here at the number one hero's dining room table. It is a gray day, with a fog settling between the trees surrounding his grand estate and dew still lingering on the blades of grass,"
She stops, considers, concedes.
"There is a rabbit in the yard. He stares out at it instead of me as we begin this interview...Mr. Bakugou how are you feeling today?"
"... It's 'the Wonder Duo's' dining room table, and 'their' grand estate. My name isn't the only one on the deed. And if you're gonna call me that the whole time, we're ending this shit now."
Scarlet eyes flicker to her and there it is. There's the man she knows. The vicious one who would bite and snarl and rip things apart so long as he would win.
"What's going on with you Kats?" She feels emboldened to ask now. "Are you ready to talk about this today? Because if you need to shift this interview slot, I can talk to my boss and have him send someone else-."
"I'm only doing this because it’s you Phones," he says. A hand goes up as if to brush through his hair, hesitates, then drops back down to handle the glass of whiskey. "The others, I-," He looks outside once more. "I can't talk to them. They don't know me. They didn't know him. You've seen us at our worst, and I..."
He falls silent and says no more. There's a vein working in his neck. She could hear it. The quick thump thump thumpof blood flow. She wants to give her quirk to him so he could hear it too: the reminder that he is alive to sit there and say what he needs to say.
Instead, she presses the urge into her grip on the recorder, starting anew.
"July 25th. 8:16 AM. I sit here with Katsuki Bakugou, hero alias Ground Zero, at the Wonder Duo's dining room table. It's a gray day but," She glances out to the clouds overhead. "The sky shows signs of clearing....Kats,"
She waits until the man looks at her, twin rubies dull in the light. Kyoka tries to put the ball in his court.
"Tell me about your husband."
"You know the story of how we met. Childhood friends. We didn't get along around puberty, but we were stuck together throughout UA whether I liked it or not. You were there. You've seen the worst of it."
"I never understood it though. Kirishima and Mina were childhood friends and they-,"
"Were different from us. Or rather Izuku and I were different from the rest....We were always different. Complex. Simple and easy would've bored us I think."
Ice clinking. Fabric rustling as he rolls back the sleeves of his thermal. She takes a deep breath.
"....When did it change?"
If he could, he would gouge out his eyes and swallow them whole so he wouldn't have to see this crap.
"I didn't know they were dating." Mina mumbled into her cup of tea. He doesn't look up from where Deku has an arm slung around Round-Face's shoulder, plush pink lips pressing a kiss to her cheek.
Katsuki sneered.
"They deserve each other," He took a vicious bite from his apple, enjoying the crunch between his teeth as something raw and ugly reared its head within his gut. He felt sick and angry all at once. He wanted to retch. He wanted to fight. He wanted to take Izuku and....and...and...
He didn't know, and that was the worst of it.
"Kacchan! Let me go!" Deku's wrist was rough beneath his grip. The kid had scars, more than Katsuki could even count, all over his arms. He was beginning to suspect that he got them on purpose to look stronger than he really was. If that was the case, he had no qualms about laying down a few marks of his own. Lord knows he was good enough to do it.
"We're sparring nerd! Or are you trying to slack off now that you've got your little fancy ass quirk? You can't take up All Might's mantle if you're not willing to work."
That shut him up the rest of the way to the training room.
"I was supposed to have a date with Ochako tonight," The third-year muttered as he stripped off his shirt. Katsuki looked over the muscles in his back, how they flexed beneath the expanse of tan skin, shoulders covered in dark little constellations.
(And he burned.)
There was a thrill of satisfaction at the words. He swallowed it down lest he say something stupid.
But the feeling was so addictive he couldn't help but do the same thing all over again the next 'date night'. If Round Face wanted to distract the future #2 hero, she'd have to fight Katsuki for Deku's time.
It would have to come to a head eventually. He didn't expect it to take a whole fucking year, but he was nothing if not diligent. When Katsuki opened the door of his apartment one night to find Deku, bulked up from his time as Miruko's side-kick, lingering in his entryway, rain sticking his dark curls to his forehead as his eyes ran red with tears, he knew his work had finally paid off.
It was all he could do to hold back his victorious laughter as he pulled Deku in, peeled the wet clothes off his back, and pressed his advantage.
A hand pauses the recording.
"You broke them up?"
"I didn't break anything. Those two were doomed from the start. Two blatantly gay kids playing 'Heterosexual High School'. I did her a favor. Isn't she with that girl from Class B?"
"I...You're a homewrecker Kats. What an asshole. No wonder she still shit talks about you."
"She still hasn't gotten over it?"
She wants to laugh, but as soon as the impulse rises, the situation bears down on her once more, sobering her amusement into something bittersweet.
"She didn't when I last saw her...But...I mean things are different now aren't they? I don't know how she feels."
His tiny stutter of breath almost gets lost in the 'click' of the recorder. Scarlet eyes return to following the hare.
The first couple months were a disaster. They were either called in for work, rained out, or something. Katsuki wasn't one for religion, but he couldn't help but feel as though karma had a gun to his head and was shaking him down for all he had.
Impromptu dates were the only option. They could never plan anything out, so they went on instinct, feeling their way through the darkness of the unknown, sprinting through each new thrill. It suited them. They weren't boring people, so the typical dating process wasn't up to their speed. Their dates had to be thrilling and unusual.
Katsuki loved each and every one.
But he had a favorite. This one stuck out cause it was the least expected, jarring in how its sheer inconvenience contradicted how much laughter bubbled out of his throat.
After all, not many people could say their boyfriend snuck into their hospital room, escaping from his own by the skin of his teeth, to take them on a date. But there Izuku was, a bouquet of 'Get Well Soon' flowers in his hand still dripping water onto the floor, bandages wrapped all over his chest disappearing below loose sweats. His house slippers scritched against the floor as he approached Katsuki's bed, green eyes alight with a certain glint that Katsuki knew meant trouble.
He was smiling before the shitty nerd could even speak.
"Hey hot stuff," That saucy wink only confirmed his suspicions. "You wanna get out of here?"
"Fuck yes."
His leg was broken in three different places, but that didn't matter. Deku hooked his arms under Katsuki's body bridal style, mindful of his own broken ribs, then leapt out the open window, curtains a flutter behind them as they went through the sky. He'd remember the way the wind whipped at his face, how his leg throbbed as the painkillers that made him drowsy began to wear off, but it was the hands clutching him tight that imprinted on his mind.
It didn't matter how much time passed. He'd be able to sketch those hands from memory. He knew their touch like he knew his own. Every mottled scar and each crook in his fingers, he could see them even if he went blind. There was no touch he knew to be gentler.
Even as they landed, and the ground quaked beneath the force of Deku's feet, he was brought down so softly, as if he were a thing to be treasured.
There was a picnic already set up. He could see the large tartan blanket from the sky. (Later he would find out Shitty Hair and Pinky helped out, but for that moment, his eyes were on the tall figure of his man with his broad back to him as he faced the world, spine strong and straight as the tree trunks that surrounded them.) The little details like the picnic basket, his old Victrola and a box of his vinyl were the ones his eyes had missed. He could smell spicy takeout from the Indian joint he and Kiri always went to, and a steadily burning teakwood candle that was definitely Mina's special touch.
A sudden fondness for his friends rose quick, but he tamped it down, fighting back the smile on his face.
He lost when Deku turned.
His grin was cheeky as he held up a bottle of jack, and Katsuki knew that was definitely the other man's idea. No one else paid attention to what he preferred to drink, just taking a single sniff, scrunching their nose and running away before he could convince them to try it.
"For the pain!" Deku said excitedly, knowing damn well their nurses would have their heads if they found out.
Ice clinks in the glass. Kyoka looks at the dregs of dark liquor at the bottom.
He couldn't pinpoint the exact moment the realization came.  They ate in relative comfort, drank more than they were supposed to well into night, watching the stars flicker into existence as the moon made its arc through the dark sky.
It might've been when they set their favorite record to play and Izuku lifted him up. Strength was always effortless when it came to him. It made Katsuki feel safe. He didn't need the protection but it didn't hurt to indulge for once, laying his cheek against a firm, barrel chest and enjoying the warmth of an embrace as they swayed. His feet dangled in the air, alcohol dulling the pain of the broken one into a mild thrum that was lost to the tingling sensation of something going right for once.
Yes, that was the night Katsuki realized this was who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
He stops talking. The tattoo around his finger is as bright as any ring, a simple neon green circlet, neon green lightning bolt where a diamond would've been. Kyoka licks her lips. The recorder is held tight in her hand, knuckles turning white till she realizes and loosens her grip. The two are silent. She searches for something, anything to say, but is interrupted by the thundering of little feet on the stairs, shoes slipping on the marble floors as wild shrieks rang through the hallway.
"Dad! Dad!"
And then comes the deluge. There are six of them, tumbling through the door still in their nightgowns, bedheads wild atop their heads and sleep still in the nooks of their eyes. They clamber around them, only a few sparing a curious glance at her before turning to their apparent father.
(When did this happen? Where was she for this part of their lives? All these tiny faces were unfamiliar to her.)
Katsuki holds the glass far from their reach, despite the only contents being ice, and smiles for the first time that day, shoving back all the grief and fatigue to quirk his lips.
"What's going on brats?"
"It's Aurore," The oldest, she presumes, starts with a confident bang. "Her quirk won't shut off! She broke the sink!"
As if hearing her name, the girl, the true oldest, question comes in.
Floats in, rather. Kyoka watches in mounting horror as the teen, no older than fifteen, comes over with terrible wails, black tendrils bursting from her hands like whips. But even this couldn't keep her attention.
No, it's the pink lightning all over her body that sets off alarms in her mind. She'd seen this before, in a different color.
"Her...Her quirk...it looks a lot like De-,"
Katsuki's hand slams down on the recorder, resounding slap making them all jump. He doesn't look at her as he gets up, one long lean line of power and authority.
"I've gotta take care of the kids. Come back tomorrow."
Then without another glance back, he takes the crying girl by her wrist, tugging her out to another part of the house. The other children follow, casting glances at her with wide bulbous eyes. Confused, and a little hurt, Kyoka collects her things and leaves.
The hare is back. She thinks its warren is nearby. It's resting in the grass, uncaring of the exposure as she stares. The fog hasn't lifted. The sun stubbornly refuses to come out. Katsuki answers the door even before she walks all the way up to the great white porch. They go back to the dining room from yesterday. He has a pitcher of water set out for them both. She doesn't even think of the eerie silence until he explains,
"The kids have gone to their Grandma Inko's for the weekend."
"Oh, I didn't mind! You didn't have to-,"
"I think," he says softly. "That she needs them more than I do right now."
There are no words that she can say to that. Slipping into the easy folds of professionalism, she sets her recorder on the table. He looks out to watch the hare.
She begins.
"July 26th. 8:01 AM. Same place as yesterday, with the same fog. The house is empty-,"
"You can't write about them. The kids." He says abruptly. She sends him a look, forcibly erasing the last couple seconds from the tape. "Sorry, but I wanted to make that clear. The kids are...They need to stay safe."
"You have my word," She murmurs. He nods. She restarts.
"July 26th. 8:02 AM. Same place as yesterday, with the same fog. Katsuki sits at the head of the table, staring out the window at the same rabbit." She slides her gaze around the room, settling on a photo propped on a side table. She was there the day that photo was taken. She could hear the fireworks, the applause, the sweet, sweet music they danced to that night.
Twin smiles look back at her, imploring her to ask.
"Kats, tell me about him. If you could tell the world what you want them to remember about your husband, what would it be?"
It's a strange question. He turns at the sound of it, then follows her gaze to the portrait.
At once, he reaches for the whiskey on the rolling cart.
The day of his wedding, he was nervous. It would turn out to be a fine affair; there wasn't a doubt in his mind about that, but that was only if Izuku didn't come to his senses and realize Katsuki was a selfish, rude prick with a temper and a mouth to match. He panicked. He fumbled over something as simple as his tie. His hands were shaking.
And he started to cry. It was only his Dad in the room, and Masaru was a complete bumbling mess when it came to tears, so the man left and, out of all the people he could've found to help, he found his wife.
Like he said. Complete bumbling mess.
Katsuki held back a scream when the old hag appeared. He nearly didn't invite her. She was the bridezilla of a wedding with no brides, paying strict detail to every fucking thing under the moon. But as soon as he saw her, the tears stopped short. He seethed instead, recoiling angrily as she fretted over him, tying his tie as she did back when he was a child.
"Kats'ki,"
He blinked. He hadn't heard his name pronounced like that since he was child. It turned his insides into mush, soft and malleable, quieting his curses till he was looking down at her with wide, blinking eyes.
(And wasn't that a wonder? She was a giant in his eyes once upon a time, but now she craned her neck to fix her gaze upon his face, weathered hands pressing against his cheeks as they did when he was a boy.)
"You're more like me than you're father. I suppose I need to be the one to tell you how not to screw this up-,"
He wanted to protest, but she pressed a finger to his lips, shushing him before smoothing out the lapels of his jacket.
"There's no marriage advice that applies to all couples. What worked for me and your father may not work for you and my darling Izuku, but nevertheless," Fingers paused, hesitated, then squeezed his shoulders. She pressed a firm kiss to his forehead."It must be said. Your passion is your greatest asset, but your temper is your worst. Never spend an entire day angry. Talk out your problems.
"Let yourself love him. Let that love consume you whole till it feels like there's nothing left but that warm, sticky feeling. And let him love you in return."
Everything was golden that day. Ivory and gold. He remembered how the champagne flowed freely. It went down his mouth in waves, sweetness sticking under his tongue, traces of it on the curve of Izuku's lips when he kissed him.
Katsuki wasn't a dancer but he danced that night. There was never a moment when there wasn't a hand at his waist, or his own wrapped around a firm shoulder. But, no matter where his steps strayed, he always found himself back in the same embrace, held tight against a firm chest, nose brushing against the smooth curve of a neck smelling of pine and sandalwood.
"I love you," And if he could, he would tattoo the words onto his heart, to have and to hold until he took his last breath.
That day, in that glorious, reception hall of gold and ivory and pale white roses, they had their peace. For one brief, shining moment, there was a Camelot: a fairy tale in which greatness was golden, and they had the King Midas touch.
There would be none like it ever again.
"I was at your wedding," Kyoka says wistfully. "The press was in a frenzy for any pictures. TIME said it was bigger than the royal wedding. You two single-handedly brought a small city in Japan under the scrutiny of the world..." She sighs, recalling the breathlessness of it all, of sitting in the pew and feeling the tides of history wash over her skin. "It was a gorgeous ceremony."
"...Yes," he replies, eyes flickering away from the photo. "It was."
The honeymoon was in Nice, France. It was strange. They weren't bombarded for photos. Either nobody knew them or nobody cared. They spent their days rolling around in the cool sheets of their hotel room, or laid out on the hot pebbles of the beach, toes in the rolling water of the tide. They would whisper secrets the other already knew in the dark, nibbling on cold pizza out by the shore, staring out at the vastness of the ocean as night brought them into its cool embrace. Izuku was a light even in that darkness. He was warm when the winds were cool, and still as the earth when the tide threatened to plunge them into the depths of the sea.
He could never turn it off, that thing that made him so bright. His moral arc was unshakeable, bending ever towards his idea of justice and peace. A symbol of strength in times when others were weak.
When Katsuki was weak.
Izuku said once that Katsuki was his image of victory. But age and experience taught him that the top spot wasn't everything. There was something greater than victory to strive for. It tasted just as sweet, but it was deeper, more profound.
He couldn't put a name to it but that...that thing was what he saw in Izuku. It was an innate glow. Every smile, twinkle of his eyes and even the smallest twitch of his crooked fingers bled with it.
He thought he could taste it on Izuku's skin. He certainly tried. When they lay in bed at night, he traced the map of the heavens with his lips, following each mottled scar that formed a road, memorizing each speckled freckle that formed a constellation against a tanned sky. With each kiss, each swipe of his tongue, he would taste the salt of his sweat but there would be something sweeter looming just beyond. He could spend hours searching for it, but Izuku, in all his niceties, was an impatient man.
The taste would barely brush his palette before the man would push him back into the soft mattress, set upon him with a vigor, and thrust into his heat till he saw fireworks.
Kyoka takes a long, heavy sip of water, resisting the urge to hide her cheeks behind her hands.
He thought he could see it sometimes. There was a little girl going around Nice, the local thief. They saw her pickpocket an elderly couple and immediately sprang into action. But she was fast. In a blink, she could cross the distance Katsuki made with ten steps.
She couldn't control her quirk though. So when they started nearing the beach, and she looked back at them with fear, there was only one deadly end that could be made. He tried to yell at her to stop, but that only made her jump. Before he could reach her, she was drowning. He was in the waves in an explosion of red and gold, but Deku came from nowhere, black whips surrounding her little body till they lifted her out of the teeming waters.
He carried her to shore, back against the halo of the sun. Katsuki could see it then, in that moment. It wasn't the electric green glow of One for All, but something more. Colorless and without a name.
(Did that sound insane? Maybe he was insane.)
He rescued that little girl, listened to her tragic backstory of abandonment as Katsuki sat fuming off to the side, eyes watching for any sleight of her tiny hand that could lead to Deku being hurt.
(It never came. Not even in the years after. Even accidentally, Deku was the one person Aurore could never harm.)
Their time in Nice, though enlivened by the incident, slowed back down after that. Deku had made a name for himself, helping out in minor incidents because of course he did. Le lapin vert, or Lap-V according to the hipster kids that skated around. He was a hero, even on their honeymoon, simply because he knew no other way to be.
Katsuki didn't fight it. He didn't mind so long as there was a familiar arm slung over his waist in the night, steady breath on the back of his neck and that deep, profound feeling of safety.
They were golden. They were good.
Then they returned to work, spent years dedicating themselves to the tireless cause of justice, picking up orphaned children and taking them in as their own, picking up falling buildings, picking up society as a whole and carrying it on their backs until....
Unti Izuku died, and all things golden and good died with him.
He takes a moment. She allows it, watching with weary, burning eyes as he slips a worn pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He at least has the decency to get up and open the window, smoke filtering out into cool morning air, blending into the drab gray.
"Thought you gave up smoking."
"...It comes and goes."
He watches the rabbit in the yard. The rabbit watches him back.
He had the day off. He could still remember how warm the bed was that morning. The sun's light had cast their bedroom in a blissful glow, one in which he lounged in like a cat, stretching out his limbs with a great, silent yawn.
He had kissed Izuku's forehead, soft and tender with affection he wouldn't dare display if the other man were awake, then went to put on a pot of coffee. The children were still asleep, as they were wont to do those early summer mornings. Half-days at school meant they didn't have to go in until a little later, leaving the house in a comfortable silence punctured only by the scritch of his slippers and faint chimes of the Corinthian bells hanging outside the window over the sink. It was soon joined by the rumble of the coffee maker, and a tired sigh as a strong arm wrapped about his waist.
Izuku mumbled his 'good morn'ng' in the same tone he used every day.
(He didn't realize how much he would miss it till he struggled to recall the string of syllables in his mind, searching for the exact lilt on the vowels, that low tired thrum that sent shivers down his spine, as he stood alone in the silence of the following mornings.)
They had coffee and toast, talking about nothing of importance. Class A gossip. Hero Politics. The kids.
Izuku took his shower. Katsuki washed the dishes.
Izuku left. Katsuki kissed him goodbye.
"I love you," Izuku said. His eyes used to search Katsuki's own whenever he said it. He wasn't sure what the man was looking for. Confirmation? Reciprocation? Whatever it was, he had stopped looking after the fifth year of their marriage. That morning, as many others before it, there was nothing but a warm, steady gaze that made his lips curl and heat climb up the back of his neck.
That morning, as many others before it, all he said back was, "Later, nerd."
(He'd regret not saying 'I love you' more, but especially in that last moment. He'd replay it over and over again in his mind, just thinking about 'what if's. Other words he could've said to encompass the vast wealth of his emotions, ones that could properly define the black hole created in his chest when Izuku left him behind.)
The call came in the afternoon. The kids had left for school an hour before. He waved them off as they boarded the bus, then entered the study to try and get a handle on his paperwork. His coffee had gone cold when his phone rang.
That was the first red flag. It wasn't his cell. It was his work phone. They didn't usually call him in if they had Deku and Shoto on the job. There was an unsettling feeling in his gut but he pushed it away, thinking it may have been a call about a promo opportunity.
He slid his finger against the cool glass.
Then Kota's panicked voice rang through the speaker and he felt the world slowly tick to a deafening halt.
"-Kugo! It's All for One! He's alive! He's here! Shoto and Creati are fighting him now but Deku is-! Deku is-!"
He had never thrown on his uniform faster. He was about to rocket out the door when his phone rang. His private cell. Something compelled him to glance at the screen, instinct warring  for a say with his mind already calculating the route he would take. Seeing his old teacher's name flash only cemented the dread building in his gut.
Aizawa wasn't the type to call him unless it was something serious. He picked up the phone, flying one-handed as he did so, adjusting his balance so that he didn't crash out of the sky.
"He's at Musutafu General. He's asking for you. I know they're calling you into the field, but he says it's urgent. He says....He says 'All Might would want you to have it.' That it.."
A shuddered breath. "That it can't die with him."
He was on a course for the hospital before the line clicked. He didn't bother with the door, heart racing as he burst through a random window in a showering of glass. He was screaming; he knew it by how hot his throat was, the frightened eyes they sent his way as he marched through the building, boots scratching up the white linoleum floors, threatening to start a fight until Present Mic found him, clasped him by his old, wrinkled hand and led him into a private room.
His Izuku was there, lying in a bed, with no one around but Aizawa. No doctors. No nurses. No one who could help him. Katsuki was set to turn the entire place into a bonfire when green eyes turned to him and his sparks spluttered to a slow freeze.
"Get out," He ordered the extras. He couldn't even hear them when they complied, blood roaring in his ears like the sea.
(The sea. They used to go out and stare at it. Watch the sun drop below the gentle tide. What he would give for just onemore sunset.)
Izuku drew him close with nothing but his steady gaze. He was beautiful, even like this. Even as blood spattered his cheeks, leaking through his heavy bandages, as his eyes looked beyond him to see a greater, brighter horizon.
(Oh, how lucky he was to get to know God's favorite star.)
"Kiss me goodbye," It was a quiet rasp, easy as their mornings. He knew that tone, that series of syllables, mottled with something deeper than sleep.
He couldn't deny him when he was like this.
Katsuki pressed their lips together as he had countless times before, pushing every word left unsaid into this kiss, seeking a brief refuge in the dying warmth of his mouth.
'I love you...i've loved you...i will always love you'
Katsuki watched it go dim, that colorless, nameless thing. It slipped from Izuku's lifeless body to travel with his soul, off to a place he couldn't reach.
"What did he look like?"
"...Excuse me?"
"You said," She clears her throat, tar and oil in her mouth even as tears burn in her eyes. "You said Izuku was there, but what...what, um,...Can you describe to me what you saw?"
A silence yawns into the morning, stretching between them like the years passed. Katsuki looks at her evenly. When she turns away she still feels the scrutiny of his gaze. His voice is grinding gravel.
"You want me to talk about the body." He says it slowly, as if that would lessen the blow. "How the bandages couldn't hold him together? The way his legs were snapped, the hole in his gut that let you see clean through him? Do you want to hear about how his arms were slipping away from the bone? Do you want to hear about that Jirou? Do you really want me to describe what I saw? Or do the sick fucks of the world want to know what it looks like when a hero falls? What the Symbol of Strength looked like when he finally couldn't carry...couldn't..."
He sniffs. Wipes at his eyes. The tar in her mouth turns to ash, bitter and dry. She's never hated herself more than she does now.
"What happened after the hospital?"
He looks to the window. That rabbit hasn't left.
One for All pulsed in his veins as his sorrow joined his rage in a vicious cacophony.
They told him after, what he did. They told him of how the city burned in a blaze of terrifying glory. How he destroyed entire skyscrapers in his chase till he finally caught up to the man that took the sun from his skies. They told him how the newscasters were forced to stop broadcasting. The Hero Commission thought the imagery of the Symbol of Victory doing what he did best was too graphic for the public.
That was the worst part of it. The greatest triumph of his career and there was nothing to show for it but the shadow of a dead, lesser man.
He didn't remember any of it. He woke up to the blood on his hands, to the burned, ripped up pieces of a man once so feared lying at his feet, features unrecognizable from the dark, scarlet mess of blood, guts, and brain matter.
He didn't remember anything other than the face Izuku wore when he died. The fine curl of his lashes against the paling cheeks, how his freckles stood stark against his skin, lips blue but turned up into one final smile as he took his last breath.
He was golden, even in death. He was good.
"Are you crying?"
She sniffs, rubbing at her eyes as a sense of shame comes over her. She was meant to be comforting him, and here she was, falling into his reluctant embrace, pressing her nose against the sweet scent of his skin and acrid smell of smoke.
"I'm sorry...I just...I-,' She throws professionalism to the wind and breaks down in sobs, tumultuous racking things that make her chest hot and her eyes ache.
For a moment, she wonders what made her think she could do this.
But it wasn't her choice at all was it? Her supervisor demanded it of her, thrusting the assignment her way thinking that since she was 'close to the man's husband; she'd be able to get the job done'. With no regard for her feelings, or how she felt about the situation.
At the end of the day, she isn't even the one that mattered. This broken man before her-this dying fire-, is a scoop really worth putting him through all of this? Whatever she's feeling, he must feel ten-fold.  He sits alone in this huge empty white house, drowning in memories of a golden time long gone, etched into every hall, haunting him at every corner, and here she is rubbing salt into the wounds.
Oh, she's a horrible person. A terrible friend. She has half a mind to throw the recorder out the window, but Katsuki slips it towards himself before she can even try. Crossing over to the window, he pulls out another cigarette.
"Go home Phones. Get some rest. We'll be back at it tomorrow."
She sniffs once more, collects the rest of her things, and finds her way out. From the driver's seat of her car, she can see him, a slim thing in one of the many grand windows, arms crossed as he leans out on the railing, a trail of smoke rising from his lips
Digging out her camera, she snaps a photo of the widow in the white house. She has to fight off the urge to retch the entire ride home.
"I don't smoke."
She glances up from her glass of water, warily eying the way he turned the recorder in his hands.
"31 minutes and 46 seconds in, you can yourself saying 'Thought you gave up on smoking.' Delete that part of the tape. I'm a pro-hero. The second half of the Wonder Duo. Kids look up to me. I don't smoke."
With that said, he slides the recorder back to her, takes a pack of cigs from his pocket, and lights up, reclining in his seat with shut eyes as the steady waft of nicotine fills the air.
Kyoka presses the starting button, and begins,
"July 27th. 8:30 AM. The dining room table again, with the grand old windows overlooking the yard. The fog doesn't seem to want to lift."
Twirling one of her ears with a finger, she looks at her notes, eying one question in particular her supervisor had underlined three times. There's no way she's going to be able to walk into his office without asking, but she's not sure if their friendship would survive the question.
"Did you regret it? Killing that villain?"
Scarlet eyes blink open but they are unseeing, glued to a spot just above her shoulder.
"Depends on who's asking. You, or the Tokyo Times?"
"...The Tokyo Times," she answers. There was nothing Kats hated more than a liar. She expected him to watch her with disappointment, to turn away and treat her coldly for the rest of the interview, but he simply shut his eyes once more.
"My actions were considered a necessary precaution to ensure the safety of the citizens of Japan," His voice is dull, clinical. She knows a practiced statement when she hears it. They were bland. The thump-thump-thump of his heart was at neutral pace, no emotion spurring it into action. "In order to preserve the peace of this new era, the greatest evil of the old had to be destroyed. I thank my fellow pros, the Hero Public Safety Commission, and all first responders for what they did that day. If he were alive,"
Katsuki pauses. The ice in his cup melts slowly beneath the heat of his grip, diluting the liquor it floats in.
His voice goes low, but does not shake.
"If he were here today, I am confident my late husband, Midoriya Izuku hero alias Deku, would be proud of what we accomplished as a city."
She does her duty in writing down what she could, scribbling a note to get a statement on other involved parties as soon as she could.
"Tell me how you felt about the funeral." She says as her pencils scratches.
"It was a ceremony worthy of a hero of Deku's statu-,"
"No." She lays a hand on top of his. "Tell me how you felt about the funeral."
A vein in his neck jumps. She can hear his heartbeat quicken with the rising fury.
"I hated it," He spat.
When a hero died, they received what was called an 'Akira Service' named after the first shining man made of light  that decided to take up the mantle of 'hero'. It was a nationwide affair, drawing in colleagues, elites and politicians all intending to pay their respects with speeches, prayer, and moments of silence.
It had turned into an opportunity for influencers to rub elbows long before Katsuki was even a thought in his parents mind. The first he had ever been to was during  high school for Best Jeanist. He was still young then, unsure of what was going on.
The second he had gone to was for All Might. Deku was with him for that one, as they were not only the man's protégées but had recently burst through the top ten ranking. They stood in a crowd of thousands, surrounded by vultures and wolves, with nothing but the other and a few scattered friends for respite.
"Do not let my funeral be like this," Deku had whispered to him, after the third fancy insurance company head came around to cozy up to them.  "This is hell on earth. Hi! How are you?"
Katsuki couldn't reply then, when one of the Commission's higher ups approached with a false, wide grin, but he made that promise in his heart. He was sure that Izuku would do the same if Katsuki met his end first.
But if All Might's funeral as the retired Symbol of Peace was huge, then Izuku's death as a young, active hero-the Symbol of Strength made into a martyr- was beyond measure. People flew in from all over the globe to 'pay their respects'. It seemed like everyone Izuku had ever met had come out of the woodwork.
(It was strange, because when one of them traveled, the other wasn't too far behind. Izuku had hardly met anyone that Katsuki didn't eventually meet himself, and there were a lot of unfamiliar faces in the crowd that day.)
He intended a quiet service for those close to them. For it to be done quickly and efficiently as possible, that his husband's body would be cremated and the ashes buried in the grounds of their home, beneath the wisteria tree, where Katsuki could go every morning and pay his private tributes.
They stole that right from under him. They locked him up for 'his own safety' for days on end and by the time he was released his private cell, stumbling into the arms of his parents, he was politely informed that 'due to the nature of the situation, preparations were already underway for the burial of his partner Midoriya Izuku hero alias Deku, if we would like to be a part he would be expected to show up at the following address in the morning dressed appropriately for the followings series of events-'
Sorrow didn't taste bitter. He wasn't sure where that idea came from, but he knew it was wrong. It tasted like nothing. It tasted like his taste buds shutting down before the rest of his body, like a muggy fog he was constantly stumbling through, blind to the path, reaching out to find his way.
Sorrow tasted like what it meant to lose, and to be lost all at once.
His only grace was that he wasn't alone through this. He had his parents behind him, Inko at his side weeping into his shoulder, the kids with bowed heads and red eyes. All gathered around the oakwood casket that was still and quiet, muted in the wake of the winter sun.
He had his friends. Eijirou would maintain his quirk for as long as he needed to, beating back paparazzi with his gentle sternness as they made their procession through the streets. Sero blocked off a 'safe' area for family and friends during the service, tape strong with Kaminari's electricity latched onto it, crackling when anyone got too close without Eijirou's go-ahead.
Mina had organized what she could. Whatever control she, Inko and Mitsuki could wrestle from the Hero Public Safety commission, they did. She was the one that stressed over the tiny details, of white roses vs calla lillies and the order of speeches, that made sure the family was the first to be notified of everything that went on, that argued on their behalf when they couldn't keep up and halted the entire process until they agreed to release Katsuki, that they acknowledged that he needed to be there.
She, and the rest of the squad had-.
"Are you crying again Phones?"
"I am so, so sorry Kats. You needed me and I...I didn't show up. I missed it," She heaves through a sob, ears filled with a static that made her head hurt with something other than a deep-rooted resentment. He doesn't look her in the eyes. His heartbeat increases. She feels his toes tapping against the floor as he struggles to find the words to say.
(And here she was again, acting selfishly when Kats was the one who needed the help. When had she become this person?)
"It's not your fault. You had work-."
"That's no excuse. You went to him when he needed you. Mina dropped a modeling gig in the middle of Rome to come home."
"What you do is a little more important than-,"
"No." She brings her hands to the table, eyes willing him to look at her, to see how serious she was. It's not until dim scarlet flicker to her watery gaze that she continues, "I want to fix this. Please tell me how to fix it."
"...You can't bring him back."
"I would if I could."
"I know, but you can't." His cigarette is snuffed out against the marble floors, ash ground out under his heel. He pulls out a pack of tissues from his pocket and an envelope along with it.
"If you really want to help me out, publish this letter along with the article." he says. The white glides along the table, easy as a leaf on the wind. Curious, she unfolds it, wiping away the lingering blur of tears. Voice clear in the silence, she begins to read,
"...And it is with great pride and sense of accomplishment that I announce my retirement from the hero profession for good. It is evident now, more than ever, that the world is ready for a new era of peace, and I look forward to seizing my final great victory by raising those heroes. Yours, in service....Bakugou Katsuki hero alias Ground Zero....What the hellis this?"
"A resignation letter," Kyoka says to her supervisor, wincing. She hates it when he yells; the decibel levels are horrible on her ears. She gets the shakes, tucking herself in tighter.
"There's no way the Hero Commission is going to let their new #1 retire! Has his agency even approved this? We're not publishing this shit! They'll have my head! I asked you to go out there and get me a story Jirou! Not whatever this is!"
The letter is thrown into the air as his hand slams onto his desk.
"I can't believe this! You were chosen because I thought you'd be able to play on his weaknesses! I thought you could make him spill his secrets! A hero gone insane! The Widow: A Murderer! That was the angle I wanted then you come back here with this piece that makes him seem so-! ...So human! That savage Bakugou Katsuki! Our Symbol of Victory! No, you go back to that bastard's house and-"
She watches him rant. How his cheeks turn red with his rage. How fast his heart beats as he begins to fully get into the swing of it.
And she thinks back. She remembers how excited she was when she first got this job, how the squad had thrown her such a huge party. She remembers how proud of her Denki was and how he kissed her that night.
She remembers how the first date she had to blow off turned into twenty. The loneliness she felt when he finally broke up with her, swearing to always be friends. But she wasn't seeing much of her friends either. Then she started travelling abroad.
People started getting married (she's still alone.)
People started having kids (does she still have a chance now at 42?)
Then people started dying, and she was filled with nothing more than regret. The man is still screaming at her but, for the first time in her life, the world goes quiet.
"I quit." Kyoka says.
Collecting her things, she snatches the article out of the man's hands and walks out. The sound of the door slamming on his spluttering gives her a little thrill. She can't help but grin, kicking her feet into a little skip as she goes through the doors, and breathes in the fresh air of freedom.
As for her article , she publishes it anonymously with Put Your Hands Up News.
Her alias? Phones. It fits her she thinks.
The Priest: There comes a time in man's search for meaning when one realizes that there are no answers. And when you come to that, horrible unavoidable realization, you accept it or you kill yourself. Or you simply stop searching...I have lived a blessed life. And yet every night, when I climb into bed, turn off the lights, and stare into the dark, I wonder...'Is this all there is?'
Jackie Kennedy:...You wonder?
The Priest: Every soul on this planet does. But then, when morning comes, we all wake up and make a pot of coffee.

Miles away from the rush of the city, Katsuki sits on his porch, water and a cigarette in hand. That damn rabbit is back again. Doing nothing. Looking at him.
He stares right back.
Inside, the children are playing. Their shouts and laughter ring high in the air, over the bluster of the early autumn winds. He thinks the noise will scare the rabbit away but it perks up, craning its ears to listen. It looks at him once more, nose twitching and black eyes curious. He nods at it, then, for a brief ludicrous moment, thinks he sees it smile.
"Later nerd," he says. (Because, even after all the 'what ifs', it turns out that there are no words more fitting than those two.)
Katsuki watches it as it hops back to the cover of the forest, disappearing under the lavender falls of the wisteria tree. There was a certain lightness in his heart with each step the thing took.  Snuffing out his cigarette, he lingers on the steps of the porch as the children wander out to join him. They run barefoot in the wet grass.
He waits. He watches.
They scream. They laugh. They look to him with great expectations.
Katsuki slips off his shoes and goes to join his children in the cool, morning dew. The fog lifts within the hour. The sun is out by noon.
The day is golden.

Stay, Part 1: Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Punishment
Most of the ride back to U.A. was All Might talking about how he can’t believe one of his own students, one of the best, could sneak past the gates and find his way into a nightclub. It was like almost as awkward as having the sex talk with his father. The thought of it made him shiver. Still, if he was in the newspaper like his mom told him he was, All Might would likely find out anyway why he snuck out anyway. He told All Might he was there to see a girl and All Might chuckled.
“No girl is worth it.” All Might said. “Trust me.”
“Also, it was for—,” Katsuki was unable to find the right words. He stumbled until he just said, “—research.”
All Might was quiet for a moment and then cleared his throat. “Now you’re starting to sound like Midoriya.”
“I wish people would stop saying his name.” Katsuki admitted. “I wish he would just go away. This is his fault!”
All Might looked at him. “His fault?”
Katsuki didn’t want to talk about it. He’d said enough. Why was he being so self-destructive? It didn’t make sense. Was he gay? Or bi? He liked having sex with Camie last night, but it didn’t mean anything. It was just a fuck, empty and irrelevant. That was confirmed by the kiss. For a moment, he wondered what it would be like to kiss Izuku. His soft lips reaching for his.  Stop! His mind yelled.
“I think you and Midoriya need to have a nice sit down and chat.”
Katsuki rolled his eyes. “I’m not sitting down in the same room with him.”
“You two used to be close. Proper rivals even. That’s what you both said after your fight last year. Now you won’t even be in the same room as him? What’s changed?”
“Everything’s changed and I just don’t know how to handle it in the way that people want me to. I have all this pressure already on me, but it’s like I don’t know how to do or say exactly what’s going on when he’s around. So, I snuck out and had meaningless sex with a girl I’d met maybe four times before that to see if I could even distract myself and it worked until I got myself arrested.”
Those words reminded him of the other two conversations: Yoyo saying, “It’s just love, regardless of who it is or what it stands for…It’s easier to be yourself than try and pretend to someone else.” and Aizawa saying, “Being different doesn’t give you the right to be mean to people.”
Those two images flashed through his brain as All Might continued, “I managed to talk everyone into letting you stay, but there will be consequences. In addition to the three days of house arrest Aizawa gave you, you’ll have another four weeks added to that. You’ll not be allowed to leave and when you enter the school, they’ll give you an ankle bracelet so they can track your movements. You’ll also have to train 3 times harder than everyone else with 100lbs of weight added to you. If your classmates run the mile, you run 3. You’ll also be given more school work until the teachers deem you can be a good, model student. I’m not here to tell you what to do, but if you pull another stunt like that, you can kiss being a pro hero good-bye. Just focus on what’s really important.”
On what’s really important. Katsuki repeated in his mind. The last image flashed through his head, but the image wasn’t of being a Pro Hero, or the insane of extra work he had—
—the image was of Deku.
“We’re here!” All Might said, trying to make it sound like he used to. “And oh, looks like Aizawa has your class lined up.”
Katsuki got out of the car and saw 4 rows of his classmates bowing low before Aizawa, who’s hair was straight up. They were all panting, as if they’d just got punished too. “Oh good,” Aizawa said, turning around. Katsuki felt the heat from his chest leave him almost instantly. He couldn’t produce an ounce of sweat, but felt a cold chill run down his spine as Aizawa said, “You’re here.” He used his scarf and snatched Katsuki roughly, the binds almost cutting off the circulation in the air. He pulled Katsuki in so close, Katsuki swore he could feel Aizawa's anger. “Did All Might explain to you everything that will happen?” Aizawa held up an ankle bracelet. “You’ll go straight into the dorms where you’ll find weights you are to attach to your wrists during training after your house arrest. If I so much as hear that you’ve been thinking of leaving campus, your ass is grass. Do you understand everything I’m saying? Because clearly you didn’t get the memo last time.” Aizawa was fuming. “Oh, and I’m your homeroom teacher again.”
“You are?”
“I’m the only one who can deal with the dipshits like you and the ones who left to go find you—,” Aizawa held out his hand. “The front row of students decided to take it upon themselves to go get you after finding out you’d left the dorms. They’ll be suspended as well and not allowed to go to the dance.” Katsuki looked at the front row. Everyone was still bowing before Aizawa. It was the usual suspects: Kirishima, Todoroki—
—and Izuku.
“They came to find me?”
“Not sure how they would have found you, considering you went all the way to the Cloud City.” Aizawa said, his hair falling. Katsuki released a breath when he felt the warmth return to him.
The three of them looked ragged like they ran into villains, until he looked at Izuku’s ankle and attached was like the ankle bracelet that Katsuki also held in his hand. He was wearing a tank top too, like Katsuki was, and Katsuki could see the outline of his triceps. The sun started to rise, giving the sky a red tint. It made the green of Izuku’s eyes stand out even more. Deku’s green hair looked darker in the rise of morning, tangled and matted together.
“They tried to climb the back gate and probably would have managed to make it over until they met up with some of my colleagues and other members of faculty. Stupidly, like you, they decided to fight.”
Aizawa walked over to Kirishima and bent down to peer at him in the eyes, but Kirishima kept his gaze low, his body still bowing low. “They will receive the same punishment as you.” Aizawa raised his voice. “Until all of you learn your lesson. Is. That. Clear?!”
“Yes, sir!” They all shouted at once.
“Good, now, get out of my sight.” Aizawa said, walking away. They all moved from their position and stared at Katsuki. Most of the students when inside, but didn’t take their eyes off him until they got through the door.
Izuku was the first to move towards him, but stopped in his tracks when Todoroki gestured to Kirishima, whose shoulders moved up and down and the two of them went to go comfort him. Katsuki also started to move towards him, but the look Todoroki gave Katsuki blocked him. “Haven’t you done enough?”
“The fuck does that mean—?”
But that sentence was cut off when Katsuki saw Izuku. Katsuki definitely contemplated hitting Todoroki, but thought the better of it. Every single fucking one of them was clearly upset, but Kirishima was the one who spoke, “Dude, you went to a nightclub? To see—,” Kirishima turned his head so Katsuki couldn’t see him crying, but it was obvious he was. He sniffled loudly. “You knew how I felt about her. I literally can’t stop thinking about her,” Katsuki 100 percent understood how Kirishima felt. Not about Camie, but about Izuku, who stood less than 5 feet away from him. But he couldn’t just ignore Kirishima.
“Wait, this is about Camie?” Katsuki said. He looked at his shoes. It was Kirishima who had originally reintroduced the two, even if it was unintentional.
“Even just the way she talked to you. I would have killed someone to have her even look at me for more than 2 seconds. And last year, when you told me you got her number, I thought that this could be my chance to go ahead and just ask her out. But you two went to a nightclub and The Rage at that?” Kirishima wiped his face with his sleeve. He was also wearing an ankle bracelet. “I know what they do there, dude. Everyone in fucking Japan knows—,”
“Do you want me to apologize?” Katsuki snapped. His face reddened with anger and he tried to suppress his quirk. He closed his eyes, trying not to look at Kirishima’s face. He tried to be so manly all the time and Katsuki knew how hard it must’ve been for him to cry. They shouldn’t have come after me.
“You shouldn’t have left in the first place.” Kirishima yelled back, almost in response to Katsuki’s thought. “You’re out of control. We have all tried talking to you about what’s going on, but it’s getting to be too much to handle.”
Katsuki could hear his heart beating hard against his chest. He inhaled deeply and told the few that were still around to hear it, “Fine, you want me to apologize? I was angry and upset about the fight with Todoroki earlier. I feel left out of everyone’s business and—,” he opened his eyes and looked at Izuku. “—we’re all supposed to friends, but I’m no good at that. And Camie texted me at a bad time and I just wanted to leave for a few hours.”
“Kacchan.” the little flute said. Katsuki opened his eyes and peered up, looking into Izuku’s bright green eyes.
“It’ll take more than that to gain our trust back.” Todoroki said, shuffling back inside. The last three in the front yard was Kirishima, Katsuki and Izuku.
“I just…I’m sorry.” Kirishima said. “But Todoroki’s right, it’ll take more than that to get us to trust you again.” Kirishima smiled a bit, showing off his razor sharp teeth. “But it’s for sure a fucking good start.”
Izuku was the first to speak after a moment of silence, “Maybe we should head inside now.”
“Not yet. I have to talk to you.” Katsuki said to Izuku. “Alone. It’ll only take a second.” Kirishima smirked and patted Katsuki on the shoulder before heading inside. He and Izuku stood there, looking at each other. “You saw me leave, didn’t you, nerd?”
Izuku blushed. “It was actually Todoroki who saw you. Kacchan, we all thought—,” he stopped himself.
“Thought what?” Katsuki asked.
Izuku inhaled deeply and shook his head. “Kacchan, I’ve known you for so long. You’re really kind of arrogant and really stubborn when it comes to getting your way—,”
“Wow, what an explanation—,” Katsuki started, but Izuku yelled at him.
“I’m not fucking done, Kacchan.” Katsuki closed his mouth and gestured for Izuku to continue. “You’re stubborn. You’ve always been so confident, knowing exactly what you want and not letting anyone get in your way. But lately, it just seems like you’ve just lost it. We all, every one of us, have tried to talk to you, but you just won’t. And it’s different than before. It’s like the old you isn’t there anymore.” He paused before saying, “We thought you wanted to kill yourself. So, we went after you, but were stopped and it turned ugly. But then we explained what was going on, but by then it was kind of too late. You’d been arrested. People were posting up pictures and tagging all of us. The one of you at the nightclub and when Kirishima saw that the girl from the licensing exam was there, he shut down. We were so worried about you.” Another pause before he said, “I was really worried about you.”
Katsuki wanted to open his mouth to tell Izuku. To tell him how much he actually meant to him. That he didn’t and never deserved him. He wanted nothing more than to run up and kiss him all over his body. His heart pounded loudly in his chest. “Deku, I have to tell you something.” Izuku’s eyebrows shot up, indicating to Katsuki he was listening. Katsuki opened his mouth, but nothing came out. He didn’t know where to start or even how to begin to describe how he was feeling or why he was self-destructing. He just wanted Izuku to love him too. Say it, coward! “I can’t!”
Izuku became confused. “You can’t what?”
“Fuck.” Katsuki cursed. He covered his face with his hands for a moment, trying to wipe away all the disgrace that he felt. “Deku, I just—,” He looked around. They were still outside and the night was getting cold. Katsuki could see Izuku’s nipples poking through his tank top. He thought for a moment about his fantasy of Izuku licking his fingers and playing with them. Katsuki’s hands almost ignited instantly, but he grabbed his own arms stopping his quirk from getting out of hand, so to speak. He leaned forward, towards Izuku, whispering, “Not here.” he whispered and started walking inside. “You coming, nerd?”
Izuku followed him inside. The few people who were still awake and in the common area not saying a word to either of them as they both got onto the elevator. They said nothing and the light, sort of upbeat elevator music broke the silence between them. They got off on Katsuki’s floor and before Izuku could say no, Katsuki told him, “Come with me.” He walked down the hall and stopped at his door. He took a deep breath and unlocked it, inviting Izuku inside.
It was dark in the room, but the sunrise lit up from underneath the curtains. “You should probably put that on.” Izuku said. Put something on? Katsuki looked at what Izuku gestured too and it was the ankle bracelet. He picked it up and held it for a moment before Izuku said, “It’s kind of tricky, let me help.” Out of muscle memory, Katsuki took a step back, but then stopped himself. He held it out for Izuku to take and Izuku got on one knee and wrapped it around Katsuki’s ankle. Katsuki wanted to reach out, tangle his hair in his hands. He felt his dick start to get hard just thinking about the two of them being in the same room together. Izuku fumbled with it for about a minute before it made a click sound. “There.” he said, jumping back up. “Now you’re stuck with us!”
“Stuck with you.” Katsuki told him and Izuku giggled. Katsuki smiled too at the sound of Izuku’s laugh.
“You said you wanted to tell me something.” Izuku said, biting his lower lip. Katsuki gestured for him to sit on the bed and when he did, Katsuki sat down next to him.
Once again, silence filled the room. Occasionally, Katsuki would try to say something, but his mouth would close shut again. The two of them sat there calmly. Something felt so right about having Izuku in the room with him. A few times, he told himself to just kiss him, but thought the better of it after the events of today.
“Deku, there’s something you need to know,” Katsuki said, trying to look away from him, but Izuku’s eyes glowed in the dark. He made a sort of mhm sound. But he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Hot tears from the heat of his quirk filled the back of Katsuki’s eyes. Izuku reached out and touched Katsuki’s shoulder. The look on Izuku’s face wasn’t anger or frustration, but gentle with a subtle smile. They sat like that for a good minute before Izuku pulled on the tank top and Katsuki leaned forward. He wanted to lean forward to kiss him, to have their lips brush each other’s in a warm embrace. But after the evens of today, he thought the better of it. He put his head in the crook of Izuku’s neck deciding it would be better to wait until he was in the right head space. Izuku didn’t quite smell as nice as he did before—he smelled like musk and dirt, and a whole lot of outside, but Katsuki kind of liked it. They sat like that for a little while longer, and as the sun crept in beneath the curtains, Katsuki closed his eyes, not realizing how tired he was after today. Upon seeing that, Izuku laid down and Katsuki placed his head on his chest. Izuku winced a little in pain and Katsuki looked at all the scratches Izuku had on his arms for the first time. He couldn’t imagine how they must’ve felt, thinking that Katsuki would just end it all. For a moment, he pictured what it would be like to not have Izuku around, but he grabbed Izuku tighter at the thought. Izuku held him, lightly running his fingers through Katsuki’s hair, Katsuki trying to mimic the rise and fall of Izuku’s breathing. He placed an arm around Izuku’s abdomen and closely listened to rhythmic sound of his heart beating. They laid there, just holding each other until Katsuki finally opened his mouth and whispered, “Deku…”
But Izuku shook his head. “Go to sleep, Kacchan.”
At that, Katsuki drifted into a deep sleep.

Hello you amazing human being, I love you! Anyways wanna feed my angst Tododeku mind and write a fic about Todoroki being abused because he’s gay and Midoriya slowly starts to figure it out and gets him out of there? If not I totally understand!
[REQUESTS: OPEN]
[I got you. I love me some TodoDeku, they are beautiful. Enjoy!]
Tumblr media
He could hear the faint sound of crying as he made his way across the playground, his little legs making small steps towards his destination. “Come on, can’t you fight back!” Midoriya blinked as he continued to walk, around him children were running and chasing after one another. He then notices Kacchan hovering over another boy, his hand is reeled back and sparks are emitting from his palm. Midoriya’s eyes widened as he ran over, wrapping his tiny hands around Kacchan’s wrist. “S-Stop it Kacchan …don’t hurt him!” he begged, his eyes watering over before the blond turned to him.
“Get out of here you quirkless loser!” he snapped and proceeded to push Midoriya back. He stumbled and landed outside of the sandbox, “Ouch Kacchan, that hurt!” he watched the blond scoff and lower his hand. “Yeah well, I don’t have time to be messing with losers like you.” he turned his head and walked away, Midoriya’s eyes followed him before he stood on his feet and approached the other boy. Seeing how they were crotched down, their knees to their chest and tears streaming down their face. Midoriya took note of their hair, how it split into two different colors.
One side was red and the other white. His eyes were two different colors as well but his face looked normal enough. Midoriya crouched down, “Hey are you alright? I’m sorry, Kacchan can be mean sometimes. What did you do to make him so angry?” he questioned and heard the boy give a soft hiccup before lifting his head. “I just told him I wanted to be a hero and that …that I liked him.” the boy furiously wiped his eyes and Midoriya smiled. “Yeah heroes are awesome! All Might is my favorite and lots of people like Kacchan! He’s pretty cool too!” the boy blinked in response to Midoriya’s words and shook his head.
“I …I didn’t mean like in that way …” Midoriya’s smile dropped and he tilted his head, “What do you mean?” he questioned and the boy gave a sniff. “Well I meant that I-” A series of loud beeps sounded and Midoriya gasped as he jolted awake, “Gees, what a weird dream.” he said before sitting up and slipping his feet into his slippers. “Why would I dream about Shoto like that?” Shoto was his friend and he had an amazing quirk, but Midoriya always found him a little quiet and he had already taken note of the way Shoto seemed to refuse any form of affection, even something as simple as a hand placed on his shoulder.
Shoto would shrug it off or step away. It was a little odd, but Midoriya played it off. Shoto was Shoto. But there was more to the other hero that Midoriya didn’t know, like just how much he had changed Shoto’s world. Ever since that day, when he had convinced Shoto that his quirk was his own, it was like the fog had lifted and there in the middle of it, stood Midoriya. The young hero had destroyed Shoto’s corrupted world well almost. Despite the fact that Midoriya always seemed to be running ahead of him which caused Shoto to want to catch up, to chase him, to get close to him.
For he found when he was around Midoriya he felt at peace, the peace that he believed he always deserved. The peace that disappeared when he was at home, with his father. Perhaps it was his own fault, he knew how his father was. Demanding, single-minded, his only goal was to have his son. His perfect creation outshine All Might, but he never thought admitting he was Gay would cause his father to abuse him. As soon as he said the words, “I am Gay.” his father’s response was a fist to Shoto’s face. Followed by a long speech about how his ‘perfect creation’ was now tainted.
However the worst part about that was not the fact his father had rejected him, not the fact that he had a bruise on his face in addition to his scar, not the fact that it started rumors about his home life. But how Midoriya looked at him, his soft green eyes so full of concern and it pained Shoto to lie. Brushing off the bruise as nothing more than training gone wrong, he knew a lot of his classmates thought he was strong considering he technically had two quirks but the truth was, he was weak. Especially to others words, the worst of which were from his father.
A few students had teased him about being Gay as well, however Shoto was quick to put them in their place. If only he could do the same thing with his father. But it was impossible, he knew of his father’s strength and while he was broken down at home. He looked forward to the school hours, no need to say it was because of Midoriya. The way he greeted Shoto in the morning and the way he stayed after class, nose buried in his book. It was adorable. “The sun was beautiful today, hey Todoroki. Do you even run in the morning?” Midoriya questioned, his cheerfulness directed at Shoto who couldn’t help but smile.
It was because of Midoriya that he had become a better version of himself and one day, he hoped he had the courage to prove that to him. “Todoroki?” he blinked, realizing he had been staring at the green haired boy. His thoughts consumed him and he leaned forward, “I like you Midoriya.” he said, his heart racing a bit as he waited for the other’s reaction. However, Midoriya just leaned back in his seat. Looking uncertain, “Uh, me too.” he replied, “I also like you Todoroki-kun.” his heart would have jumped out his chest, but he knew Midoriya didn’t mean it in the way he was hoping.
So instead, Shoto looked down. “Oh,” he said before rising from his seat, swinging his backpack over his shoulder. “I’ll see you later Midoriya.” Although he truly hated the idea of returning home, he quickly pushed past his siblings and went straight for his room. Flopping down onto his bed, a sigh escaping him as he cradled his hands to his chest. His eyes watered as he thinks back to his own stupidity. “Why did I think that was the right moment?” he asked himself, his voice nothing more than a whisper. He didn’t even know what Midoriya’s version of ‘like’ meant and he wasn’t about to ask him.
He groaned and flipped onto his back, eyes directed at the ceiling. “Maybe it’s just that he doesn’t ‘like’ me in that way yet.” he took a deep breath, “Is there a way I can show him my feelings?” he glanced down, his thoughts consuming him. He wasn’t sure what to do, would Midoriya reject him if he explained his feelings or would he return them, how would he feel if Midoriya loved him back? He reached his hand out, fingers spreading. Izuku Midoriya, he was the right guy for Shoto …wasn’t he?
He let out a groan and dropped his hand, allowing both to cover his face. “Why do I have these feelings …” he muttered into his palms. A sigh escaped him as he dropped his hands, “I don’t want to think about this anymore.” he laid there another moment before he heard a knock on his door and stood up. However, when he opened the door to see his father. He instantly wished he hadn’t, that menacing glance made him feel insignificant. The way his father crossed his arms over his chest didn’t help much either.
“Shoto …I heard a rumor today you like that Midoriya boy.” he felt a lump form in his throat, lowering his head to face the floor. His hands though trembling formed loose fists, he hated this. He knew his father would find out somehow, it was almost like the man had eyes and ears everywhere. He took a deep breath and tilted his head up, “That’s none of your concern-” his words were cut short when his father reached up, violently grabbing his son’s jaw and forcing him forward. “My perfect creation is tainted …it is my job to fix you.” Shoto’s eyes widened as he reached up to grab his father’s wrist.
“I …I don’t need to be fixed.” he weakly said before his father threw him back, causing him to stumble. “Oh really?” his father stepped closer and Shoto shivered. “Looks like your training just got harder.” he watched his father’s hell fire burst to life and clenched his jaw. Flexing his hand, his ice sparkling. He hated this, his father abusing him, doing shit like this because Shoto happened to like …boys. “Let’s see if I can’t knock some proper sense into you.” His father said and Shoto’s room ignited with fire, tomorrow he would have bruises and tomorrow he would have to lie to the one he treasured the most to about their origin.
“Huh?” Midoriya looked around, he was in some sort of large room and before him was Todoroki. On his knees, hand outstretched to Midoriya. “Shoto?” he questioned before looking at that hand, did he want him to take his hand? Midoriya felt a lump in his throat and reached out, slipping his hand into Todoroki’s palm. He watched a smile come to Todoroki’s face as he lifted his head, “Izuku Midoriya …” Shoto spoke and he felt his eyes widen as he noticed the bruises that littered Shoto’s face and neck.
“S-Shoto? What happened!?” he demand but Shoto didn’t answer his question, instead he spoke the words, “Midoriya, I …love-” his words were interrupted when a harsh light filled the room, causing Izuku to raise his arms and close his eyes. “What is going on!?” he demanded before the light faded and he found himself outside. His jaw dropping as he saw what looked like crumbled cement walls everywhere and in the middle of it, stood Shoto. Izuku blinked and stepped forward, “Todoroki? Todoroki is that you?” he questioned and gasped as he saw Todoroki turn.
“Izuku …” he said as he walked over and Midoriya gasped as Shoto placed his hands on his shoulders, leaning his head against his chest. Midoriya stood there frozen. What was he supposed to do? A sniffle broke his thoughts and he watched as Todoroki lifted his head and Midoriya felt his heart shatter when he saw those tears streaming down his friend’s face. “W-Why are you crying?” he asked as he watched Todoroki reach up and try to wipe his own tears away. What is happening? Once more Midoriya found himself jolting awake, his heart racing as images of his dream flashed in his mind. This was getting weird.
The next day at school, he saw Todoroki and just like his dream there were those bruises. “Todoroki!” he called and rushed over to him, he was currently sitting at his desk. His hands folded across the top of it. He looked at Midoriya as he approached and felt his stomach twist, he knew it would be questions about the bruises and it pained him to know he would have to lie. “Are you alright?!” Midoriya questioned frantically, his hands coming down to slam Todoroki’s desk which caused him to flinch.
He felt his heart race, memories of his father’s punishment coming to him. “I …” he began before swallowing the lump in his throat, willing himself to stop trembling. He closed his eyes, “I …I am fine Midoriya, I just …” he opened his eyes once more and looked at Midoriya, noticing that concerned look and it made his heart shatter. “I just had intense training and …it was a little more than I was used to. Don’t worry about me.” He said, trying his best to will himself not to break down crying.
Midoriya narrowed his eyes, Todoroki was strong. Even if this training was intense, there was no way he’d let himself get bruises like that and those bruises didn’t like any results from training, the way Todoroki flinched when he slammed the desk was strange as well. Almost like the noise scared him, he looked at the other’s face. There were bags under those eyes of his, that wasn’t normal. Something was strange and Midoriya wasn’t sure what it was, but he’d find out. “Okay …” he said as he leaned up but his eyes were still locked on Todoroki.
“You know you can tell anything, we are friends after all.” he said before turning to walk to his desk, though his thoughts were consumed with Todoroki. When class ended, Midoriya packed up his things. Ochako and Tenya were talking as they walked up to him, discussing plans as to what they’d do after school. Midoriya listened half-heartedly and glanced over at Todoroki who remained sitting at his desk. “Midoriya, will you be joining us?” Tenya questioned and he blinked, “Huh?” He turned to face his friend. “Oh.” he pressed his lips together and nodded. Though he looked back to Todoroki as he walked out the room.
Todoroki lifted his head, watching as Midoriya stopped at the door and waved him goodbye. He gave a small smile, returning the wave before looking around the room. It was empty and Todoroki brought his hands to cup his face, leaning against his desk as the tears came. “Oh wait, Todo-” Midoriya had changed his mind at the last second, telling his friends he wanted Todoroki to come along with them. But as soon as he peeked his head into the classroom he saw the state Todoroki was in and heard those soft tears.
He quickly darted back out and pressed himself against the wall outside of the classroom door, his hand to his chest. Eyes wide, he knew something was wrong but so wrong that it made Todoroki cry when he was alone? He felt a surge of anger go through him, his knees beginning to shake. He wasn’t sure if he was angry at himself for not noticing this sooner or at Todoroki for not trusting him enough to tell him what was wrong. Either way, it wouldn’t change anything now. But Midoriya would get to the bottom of this, if he couldn’t protect his friend, if he couldn’t make someone he cared about smile again then how could he call himself a hero?
That feeling weighed him down the rest of the day and he decided to confront Todoroki the next day, outside the gates of UA. “Midoriya?” Shoto spoke as he walked up to the other, placing his hands on his hips. “I’m …surprised you asked me to meet you so early, your text woke me up and …” he desperately wanted to tell Midoriya that he had trouble leaving the house, especially when his father stood in front of the door and snatched his phone away. Seeing the text from Midoriya and he had received another slap across the face followed by his father’s threat of more punishment if Shoto went through with meeting Midoriya.
But he couldn’t just ignore Midoriya’s request. He loved him too much, even if the young green haired hero didn’t return or know of his feelings. Shoto knew he’d risk anything to talk to him, to be with him, even knowing the wrath of his father’s punishment awaited him when he returned home. Midoriya turned to face him, a frown on his face. “I’m sorry, but …I need to get something off my chest.” he began and stepped closer to Todoroki. “Yesterday when I saw those bruises on you, I thought something was wrong and when you lied to me, it only confirmed my suspicions.” Todoroki’s eyes widened and took a step back, as if he were planning to run.
“Todoroki …I’ve been having dreams about you lately and in each and every one whenever I spoke to you, I would see you crying.” his fists tightened and his voice cracked softly. “I began to wonder why you were, who made you cry, who did that to you.” he took a deep breath and looked Todoroki in the eye. “I saw you yesterday, in the classroom. All alone crying and just knowing that, it made me think how many times you’ve cried alone like that before and if it has anything to do in connection with your bruises. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen some kind of injury on you.” he noted and Todoroki took another step back, fear clear in his eyes and his heart was pounding furiously.
Midoriya reached his hand out, “I …I’ve come to the conclusion that you’re silently looking for someone to help you and you want someone to know the truth about what’s going on.” he felt his heart sink in his chest. “I know no matter what or who you are, Todoroki you’re always trying to protect people but please this time, let me be the one to protect you.” he stepped closer, reaching out to hold Todoroki’s shoulder though once more he tried to step away but Midoriya couldn’t allow that. He kept a good grip as he looked at Todoroki, studying his face.
“Your eyes are swollen.” he said and Todoroki gasped, reaching up to graze his fingers along his cheek. Midoriya however, slit his eyes. “I am only going to say this once, I don’t think those were dreams. I think they were visions trying to tell me you were in trouble, but for some reason you just decided to push everyone away with lies and fake smiles.” his grip tightened on Todoroki’s shoulder. “But it stops now.” he said, his voice ending in a growl which seemed to finally push Todoroki over the edge. “No!” he screamed as he pushed Midoriya’s chest, his ice coming to freeze over the fabric which caused Midoriya to stumble back and fall.
Todoroki’s soft panting was heard as he looked down at the green haired boy. His hands cradled to his chest and his body was trembling, his face twisted with fear. “I …I ….y-you’re wrong Midoriya! I’m fine! Just stay out of it!” he screamed before turning to run and Midoriya held his hand out. “No, wait Todoroki!” he called, but he had already disappeared out of eyesight. “N-No.” Midoriya’s breath hitched, no he couldn’t let Todoroki get away. Not now! With that determination in mind, he kicked off the ground. He wasn’t sure which direction Todoroki had run off to, but more than likely he’d be heading back to his house and that’s where Midoriya would go first.
He activated his quirk, taking off at full speed. Part of him was worried about what he would find, but if his dreams had shown him anything it was that he’d couldn’t go on knowing Todoroki was suffering alone. Getting to the house was easy enough and Midoriya landed just a few feet from the front door, slowly willing his quirk to disappear as he stood on his feet. He took a deep breath, glancing around before he walked to the door. His hand raised to knock, however it stopped when he heard yelling which was followed by a loud noise.
It almost sounded like someone had been thrown against a wall or to the floor. Midoriya stopped and quickly pressed his ear against the door. Trying his best to make out the words, he thought he heard “Tainted” and his name “Midoriya” but what made him concerned is how the voices seemed to get closer. And then he heard “I am not t-tainted! Even if I am …there’s nothing wrong with being-” he recognized the voice as Todoroki but another voice came, “Gay? Of course there is! I didn’t birth you to have that disgusting fault!” Midoriya felt his stomach twist but anger also filled him.
Endeavor. Is that how Todoroki got those bruises, is his father the reason he was crying? Given Midoriya didn’t know Todoroki was Gay but even so, Endeavor didn’t seem to agree with it and things suddenly took a turn for the worst when he heard the cracking of Endeavor activating his quirk. “Punishment doesn’t seem to be getting through to you Shoto, but this will.” Midoriya’s eyes widened as he felt someone lean against the door, “Oh no …” he held his breath and saw the small windows around the door illuminate, was Endeavor planning to use his quirk on Todoroki?
He got his answer a moment later when the door got thrown off its hinges, he could feel the heat of the wood melting and Endeavor’s fire surrounding him. “Todoroki …” he groaned before he tumbled onto the ground, rolling and smoke was coming off his clothes. He could feel fresh burns on his skin and he pushed himself up, looking around. “Shoto …” he said before he heard a twig snap, his head instantly turning to see the one he was searching for. Half his body was covered in ice and he was struggling to stand. He then turned his head when he heard Endeavor’s laughter. “Still weak against me, still disobedient,” the words were enough to make Midoriya want to vomit.
So it was Endeavor that caused Todoroki so much pain, it was Endeavor that bruised his own son for loving who he wanted to. Midoriya’s jaw clenched, his teeth grinding together as anger built. He seemed to go unnoticed by the Todoroki’s as Endeavor approached his son. “G-Get away from me! I am …I-I’m not tainted …I’m not broken!” his cry came and Endeavor scoffed and raised his arms, palms facing his son as his fire came to life and crackled in his palm. Midoriya dug his foot into the ground, no he wouldn’t let this happen. He kicked off the ground just as Endeavor’s fire shot out.
“Shoto!” Midoriya cried as he ran in front of the flame, snapping one of his fingers to cause a large wind current. He watched Endeavor’s fire fade away and the ground beneath his feet shake as he tumbled over. “M-Midoriya?” he heard Todoroki’s voice and turned to face him, seeing the scared boy on his knees. His arms crossed over him and his eyes full of tears. “Come on, we gotta go.” he insisted as he held out his hand to Todoroki, “B-But …” his words were interrupted when he heard his father groan and Midoriya wasted no time in grabbing Todoroki’s hand and taking off.
“Midoriya stop!” Shoto screamed as the world around him blurred, Midoriya was using his quirk and that aided him in speed. “No! We’re going back to my house and you’re going to tell me what’s happening, you’re going to tell me the truth.” he knew that would be hard, but Todoroki was safe with him and Midoriya would protect him. It was highly unlikely Endeavor had seen it was Midoriya who knocked him off his feet but he could always assume so. But regardless, he already made a promise that he’d protect Shoto. He just needed to get the truth out of him.
Once they had reached Midoriya’s apartment building, he guided Todoroki to his room and shut the door behind him. Then he turned to face the other, his hands in loose fists. “Your father is the reason you’ve been crying isn’t it? He’s also the reason for your injuries isn’t he?” it was strange that was the first question he asked, seeing as he already knew the answer. But he wanted to hear it from Shoto himself. “U-Uh …” Midoriya narrowed his eyes, “Tell me the truth.” he demanded softly and Shoto frowned as he looked to him, his eyes wide before he looked down.
Giving a simple nod in response as he folded his hands to his chest. “Shoto …are you Gay?” was the follow up question Midoriya asked and he watched how it caused the other to jump. A moment of silence passed as he watched Shoto lean up, his lips pressed together in a thin line and his eyes began to water over. A sob escaping him as his cracked voice responded with a simple, “Y-Yes.” before reaching to wipe his eyes. “T-That’s why I said I liked you, M-Midoriya. Even just being friends with you makes me happy.” he replied before another sob came.
He was still doubtful that Midoriya would return his feelings, but somehow or another he found himself being surprised when the other spoke. “When you told me that you liked me, it made me happy Shoto and when I found out what was happening to you, I felt so angry. I just wanted to protect you.” he confessed before stepping closer, “I know you can do that yourself, if you had wanted to. If Endeavor hadn’t put you through that emotional and physical abuse because deep down, I know you’re a true hero.” his words caused another sob to leave Shoto’s mouth.
“I-I’m not.” he replied before looking down, “But …I wish I could be.” Midoriya frowned, “Yeah me too.” he reached up to scratch the back of his head as Shoto spoke, “Isn’t …being a hero easy for you Midoriya?” he questioned and watched as the green haired boy lowered his hand and shook his head. “It’s not if I can’t do anything about your tears.” he said as he stepped closer, reaching out to gently cup Shoto’s face. Feeling how those tears dripped over the back of his hand. “Shoto, please …let me be your shoulder to cry on!” he removed his hand and reached down to grasp Shoto’s hands, cradling them gently.
“M-Midoriya-kun.” he whispered as he felt his hands being squeezed, “Please.” Midoriya begged, Shoto sniffled and latched onto his bottom lip. Glancing down. “I …I don’t deserve you Midoriya, I d-don’t deserve any of your protection. I’m just s-some tainted Gay d-disappointment. A faulted perfection! A faulted creation!” he choked out before another sob erupted and Midoriya swallowed, his lips parted in disbelief. Is this what Endeavor had done to him? Made him believe such blunt lies!?
“Shoto! Listen to me, that’s not true! You are brave, you are strong, you shouldn’t be ashamed of who you love and no one should make you feel bad or that you’re imperfect because of it!” he cradled Todoroki’s hands to his chest and leaned close to him, pressing their foreheads together. “You are perfect, Gay or not. Tainted, insecure. You will always be perfect to me.” he whispered and heard another sob, those tears continuing to stream down Shoto’s face and Midoriya wondered if this was the first time anyone had told him such beautiful things.
A hiccup sounded before Shoto leaned away and looked at Midoriya, “I just …” he paused, as if debating about his next words. But he’d regret it if he didn’t say them. “I just love you so much.” he expected Midoriya to reject him, instead he watched a smile come to his face and those welcoming arms wrapped around him, allowing him to bury his face into Midoriya’s chest. “Let it all out, I know you’ve been holding back and I won’t let you go until you feel better.” he spoke gently as he reached up, running a hand through Todoroki’s hair as he continued crying.
Some odd time later when Shoto’s tears were dry, his cheeks red and his eyes bloodshot. Midoriya guided them to the bed to sit down. “Feel better?” Midoriya asked and Shoto gave a sniff, reaching up to wipe his nose with a nod. “Yes …” he looked at him, “Sorry.” he said which caused Midoriya to chuckle. “Why are you sorry? I should be the one who’s sorry, for everything. For not noticing what was happening to you.” Shoto looked at him surprised before glancing down. “I see …” he replied, his hands in his lap before he heard Midoriya say his name, “Hm?” he looked up, gasping as the other leaned close and pressed their lips together.
It was only for a brief moment, however it was enough to make Shoto blush and he pulled away to cover his mouth, eyes wide. Midoriya smiled as he heard Shoto take a breath, “I love you too Todoroki-kun.” he chuckled as he watched Shoto jump, a moment passing before those hands dropped from his face. “S-Should have said that sooner.” he replied and Midoriya chuckled again. “Yeah, maybe …sorry for making you wait.” he said with a smile and reached over to cup Todoroki’s cheek, his thumb dragging across the sensitive red skin.
Despite everything, Shoto still felt peace and happiness around Midoriya. Even more so when their lips connected once more.

bkdk pride week - day five - out or blue
(TW: mild non-explicit homophobia)
“C’mon, Izuku! Breakfast is ready!”
He pulls the covers up over his head, ignoring his mom’s call. When he thinks about going to school today, dread washes over him like ice water.
“‘Zuku, sweetie, why are you still in bed?” Her voice at the entrance to his bedroom.
“Do I have to go?” He eventually mumbles out.
“Honey.” He feels her sit on the edge of his bed, resting her hand on his calf over the duvet. “Middle school is hard for everyone.”
Maybe.
But not everyone is gay.
Is he gay? Is that the word? Maybe just sometimes? Maybe he’s half-gay… bisexual? Is that what that is? Or maybe he’s not as much half of something as he is something else entirely, something he can’t even begin to comprehend right now.
How would he know? These feelings… he’s been working through them at his own pace, trying to figure out exactly what they mean for him. If he’s honest, it really hadn’t been on his mind until the kids at school asked him straight up.
Are you gay?
And of course, feeling put on the spot, he immediately started muttering under his breath about the intricacies of such a question, but since he didn’t deny it outright, they assumed he was. Looking back, Izuku realizes he should have just said no, absolutely not. It would’ve been easier than this.
It’s not that he’s been bullied about it, not exactly. It’s just different now. Like, he’s gotten some strange looks in the hallways, and they avoid him in the locker rooms when they’re changing for gym class. It’s weird, and Izuku would much rather avoid, it if possible.
But he can’t bear to tell his mom about all this, can’t bear to see that familiar look of pity in her eyes. So he complies. Tomorrow is Saturday, anyway. Maybe everyone will forget about it over the weekend.
The day goes by quickly and without incident, but Izuku can’t help but feel on edge. Just a little bit, like his backpack is hanging open and he doesn’t know it, losing pages of assignments before he has a chance to realize when and where.
It’s only at the end of the day when they’re waiting to be let out of class that he hears snicking from the other side of the room. He doesn’t register what they’re saying at first.
“Didn’t you hear?”
“No, it makes total sense.”
“They asked him a few days ago.”
Izuku feels sick, like he might puke all over himself. He was so close to freedom, only twenty minutes left on the clock.
“What are you nerds talking about?” Katsuki asks his lackeys, looking bored. They whisper something to him, and his eyes widen slightly, which makes Izuku’s stomach drop.
“What?” He locks eyes with him, and Izuku's face must say enough, because all of a sudden, Katsuki's on his feet, shouting to get the class’s attention. “Listen up, losers!”
That does it - every conversation ceases, each of their faces turning to look at Katsuki, all eyes on his scowl. Izuku can’t look away either, afraid to see their judgmental gazes on him again.
“I don’t wanna hear anyone talking shit about stupid Deku, got it?” He minces no words, his stern expression unchanging. “I’m gay too. So tell everyone - if you have a problem with Deku, you have a problem with me.”
The room is silent. No one dares speak a word.
“Got it?” He repeats, his teeth gritted.
His classmates shrug in agreement, almost immediately losing interest in the conversation. But Izuku can’t take his eyes off Katsuki.
Did he really just do that?
“Hey! Hey Kacchan!” Izuku runs to catch up to him as they walk home. “Hey.”
Katsuki keeps his eyes straight ahead. “What.”
“I just - I didn’t get a chance to thank you. You didn’t have to do that for me.”
He shrugs, quickening his pace slightly.
“I wanted to ask, um…” This isn’t part of the plan, but as much as Izuku urges himself to stop, he can’t. He needs to know. He matches his pace, swallowing his fear to ask, “Is it true? Are you… also…?”
“Huh? Yeah! What, you think I’d lie about that for you?"
Izuku’s quick to pick his jaw up, his mind full of questions. “Does your mom know? How did you tell her? How long have you known?”
“None of your business, weirdo!” He stops abruptly, looking down at Izuku, his lips in a tight line, his chin high. “Yes, my parents know. It was a long time ago. It’s not a big deal.” His eyes narrow. “But I wasn’t gonna come out in middle school, you know, like a dumbass. But whatever.”
Izuku scrambles to explain himself. “I didn’t mean to! I -” But Katsuki’s already taken off down the road again and Izuku scrambles to keep up. “I don’t even know what I am. It’s really cool that you know.”
Katsuki scoffs. “Whatever, nerd. Stop following me!”
Izuku halts and watches him go, a smile on his face. He’s thankful for his loyal, albeit ornery, friend. Then, remembering he has to go in the same direction, he picks up after him.
“I said stop following me!”
“I’m just going home, Kacchan!”
He doesn’t protest after that, and they walk to their shared apartment complex together.

Tumblr media
This fic was created for the BKDK Unbirthday Party on Twitter for prompt #G-0209 submitted by Maela
‘And three... two... one...’
“Ground Zero!!!!”
Cue the screaming fans like clockwork. Izuku screws on his trademark smile as he walks behind his childhood friend and colleague Katsuki Bakugou into the agency. It never failed after media coverage of an event for fans to gather. In fact, it became such a problem that the company brought in extra security to keep the people from following the hero’s inside. It’s not that the fans bothered him, of course not. He of all people knew what it was like to be a dedicated admirer of heroes. It was...
“Ground Zero I wanna have your babies!”
“Call me, Ground Zero!” Another one screams as she tries to shove a piece of paper in Katsuki’s hand.
Because of that.
Izuku had plenty of his own fans. By the time they’d graduated from UA Academy, he’d mastered his quirk and as a pro was consistently vying for the number one hero spot. Him and Katsuki. From rivals to partners, they took on the worst villains to plague Japan. It was even why they worked for the same agency as adults. The hot head insisted they stick together no matter what because, ‘you need me nerd, to keep you focused.’He couldn’t argue the logic and maybe a part of him wanted to stick with his friend. They knew each other better than anyone else and once their bitter background had been squashed it was to their benefit.
Of course, Izuku couldn’t blame the fans for fawning over the handsome blonde with piercing red eyes. Katsuki had always kept up his physique to handle the rigorous power of his explosion quirk. Strong and agile, and from what he hears around, is very good in bed too. The man’s temperamental attitude didn’t sway the diehard female and some male fans from throwing themselves at his feet.
“Haha, one more to add to my collection,” Katsuki snickers and shoves the piece of paper with the phone number into his pocket. The women meant nothing to him, but he never missed an opportunity to gloat to his buddy. He slaps Izuku hard on the back, “what about you Deku, any action?”
“Why? Dealing with you is exhausting enough Kacchan,” he retorts with humor to his tone. Deep down Izuku was irritated, but he rarely showed it in front of the man.
“Tch. Wanna share one night? I bet she’d do anything I ask her to do.”
“No, thank you. She’s not my type.”
“And what is your type, nerd? In 20 years, I’ve seen you go out on like one date and I don’t even remember what she looked like.”
‘That’s because it never happened.’ “I’m just... not interested right now.” Izuku Midoriya wasn’t a virgin, but he’s never been in an actual relationship before. Twice he’d fooled around, once with Uraraka and another time Todoroki during his ‘finding himself’ stage and that’s when he’d realized that one, he was strictly gay, and two, no one else made his heart race like a certain blonde did.
But as far as he knew, Katsuki was as straight as they come even though he had no proof either way to confirm or deny. It was all circumstantial evidence. The man seemed to relish in all the attention he garnered from fans, especially females. He was pretty sure he’d seen photos pop up on social media of dates with women Katsuki had been on. And besides with so many rumors flying around about his bedroom prowess, some of it had to be true, right?
“You ever gonna be interested, nerd?”
“Why do you care so much about my love life Kaachan? If the right person asks me out, I’ll say yes.”
“I just noticed that you’re not very fond of the fans. You wear that stupid fake smile every time. Are you jealous of me Deku that I have so many fans?”
“What?! Of course, I’m not. I have my own!” ‘Even though yes I’d like to OFA some of your fans to oblivion.’ “I’m not jealous of you.” ‘But shit! He noticed it’s fake?!’
Katsuki grabs Izuku’s arm to prevent him from walking away. “Oi, you still haven’t answered my question Deku, what is your type?”
Frustrated with being put on the spot like this, he rips his arm out of Katsuki’s grasp. “Why do you care so much?! Go live it up with your latest conquest and leave me out of it Kacchan!” He stomps away fuming, muttering under his breath. Why the sudden interest?! Katsuki’s never pressed so hard before about his personal life. Was it pity? Poor Deku all alone. Multitudes of adoring fans but he goes home to an empty apartment. If Katsuki was trying to set him up, he had no interest in dating anyone else and if that meant he’d be alone, well so be it. It’s not like he’s never been alone before.
“You like me... don’t you nerd.”
Izuku freezes mid step, every muscle in his body stiffened by Katsuki’s words echoing off the walls of the corridor. With his back turned he couldn’t see it but could very much hear the smirk plastered on the man’s face. How dare he?! Was Katsuki taunting him?! Truth or not, how could the man find such turmoil amusing?!
“Think I didn’t know? All these years we’ve known each other that I wouldn’t figure it out?”
Izuku lowers his head as poised tears pool in his eyes. “So, what if you did, it’s not like you felt the same. Look, Kacchan I’m just happy we’re friends again, so please don’t mess that up. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I just wanna get my paperwork done and go home.”
Heavy stomps move towards him. “Stupid nerd!” And suddenly, Izuku is ripped violently from his self-despair and spun around. “Don’t you fucking put words in my mouth!” The smaller males eyes flash wide from the anger raging behind Katsuki’s ruby glare. “How do you know how I feel?! So smart, and so stupid at the same time!”
“B-But all the women?!” Izuku stammers.
“Pfft, it’s all for show dumbass. You really think I’d sleep with random people who don’t know a goddamn thing about me, who only love my image?! I don’t fucking want a hollow piece of ass! Everyone else assumes that bullshit about me, but I can’t believe my best friend would stoop so low.”
There it is. So, Katsuki was just angry because Izuku was looking down on him again. Apparently, old wounds die hard. “Kacchan, I don’t care who you sleep with. If it makes you happy, then...” his tone grows strangled, “I-I’m happy for you too.”
“Such a fucking liar Deku. I know you’re not happy about it. That’s why you only pretend with fake smiles and dull eyes.”
“Kacchan get to the point.” He sighs, because his heart couldn’t take much more innuendo. “Fine, okay yes, I’ve been in love with you for years, is that what you wanted to hear? That I’ve been stupidly pining for you knowing it would never be reciprocated? Kacchan I was happy, I really was happy because we’re close like we were as kids and that was enough for me.”
“Then go out with me Deku. You said if the right person ask’s you’ll say yes. So, say yes.”
“Kacchan, please don’t tease me. You always worry about me and try to fix things, but unless you really want to...”
Katsuki rolls his eyes and smashes his lips against Izuku’s to shut up the man’s babbling. But the man doesn’t melt into it, instead fights back, pushing and struggling to get out of his grasp! He nips Izuku’s lip. “What the fuck! I’m trying to kiss you idiot! So, stop fighting me!”
A full-blown water works bursts out of Izuku from his emotions going all over the place. “I don’t want your pity Kacchan! You don’t have to go so far trying to make me feel better!”
“Ugh!” Katsuki grabs his chin hard, “get it through your head nerd I’m kissing you because I like you! I don’t just kiss people for nothin’!”
“Y-you, I-I... but aren’t you?”
“I’m seriously in love with an idiot.”

The hardest enemy to defeat is your own self-doubt
Look at that you guys, I made it all week with a finished piece! I’m so proud lol
Day 5: This day has no prompts, therefore you are free to do whatever you like!
With Pride month being last month and I meant to make this then, I figured I could do it for this prompt ♥
Please note that there is homophobic langue in this story, some internalized homophobia as well. If you’re triggered by that I suggest skipping this one.
Katsuki let out a huff as he watched the people in his living room move about as if they owned the place, he had half a mind to tell him to get out but he'd let them in, to begin with. His mood calmed a bit as Izuku shot him a grin, he looked fucking cute as hell. But that fucking dweeb always looked cute as hell in Katsuki's opinion. Izuku wore an actually kinda funny shirt for once instead of one of his stupid shirts, though it was mostly due to the fact he only had a small say in his outfit, though he did agree to wear it. Izuku wore a light gray shirt that read "It Ain't No Lie Baby I'm Bi Bi Bi", the letters a gradient of the bi pride colors and to top it off with some sweet talking from Katsuki he got Izuku to wear a pair of cute short shorts that showed off Izuku's fantastic legs.
Katsuki sighed quieter to himself as he closed the distance between him and Izuku. He felt kinda shy which was a fucking weird-ass emotion to feel when he was never shy. But this was the first time he was actually going out in public flaunting the fact he was gay, it wasn't a secret he was dating Izuku. The bombshell blond wore a dark gray V-neck that read "I can't even think straight", though he kept his normal back baggy jeans.
"You look good," Katsuki muttered as he got to Izuku. Izuku beamed up at Katsuki with that fucking cute smile that made Katsuki want to do just about anything for the younger boy.
"You do too, Kacchan," Izuku chirped as he held up the markers everyone was sharing to color their pride flags on their cheeks. "You ready for your face painting?" Katsuki tsk-ed but he nodded, tilting his head to the side to let the smaller boy streak the colors on his cheeks. In return, he did the same for Izuku. The two glanced back at their friends, it was a beautiful chaos.
Denki and Eijiro were helping each other, Denki was decked out with a bright blue tank top that if it wasn't catchy Katsuki wouldn't have paid much attention but he even snorted as he read "I'm Bisexual so I'm nervous around everyone" with a shy carebear graphic under it. Denki's cheeks wore the same colors as Izuku's. Eiji was just as eye-catching as his boyfriend as he wore a black chest binder with a pan pride unicorn with bright red skinny jeans, that Katsuki swore he'd seen in Izuku's closet at one point in time.
Then there was Momo and Jiro with Todoroki, helping him with his cheeks. Momo wore less flashy colors but had her cute bi and poly pins on her shirt, while Jiro wore an outfit almost identical to her normal outfit but instead of her normal black jeans she wore a skirt that bore the trans colors. Katsuki had honestly been caught off guard by that, he never imagined that she was trans but like the rest of their friends supported her nonetheless.
Iida was sitting patiently with his girlfriend and her girlfriend marking his cheeks with the demi-sexual flag. But Uraraka and Tsuyu both looked pretty proud with their handy work. Uraraka wore a relatively cute pale pink tanktop that said 'multitasking' with two female and one male stick figure above it. Tsuyu had chosen to wear a similar outfit that she normally wears, though it was a matching pale pink shirt that read in a dark violet 'I love my girlfriend'.
The only pair that was missing was Sero and Mina and the two planned to just meet them there. Which honestly Katsuki was grateful as his home felt like it was crowded as is. It took a while longer for the rest to finish up in the meanwhile Izuku had managed to pull Katsuki away so he could steal some kisses before they headed out.
"We're going to have so much fun," Izuku beamed excitedly, glancing between Katsuki and the rest of their friends. Katsuki tried to ignore his nerves as he listened to the others chat, his gaze stuck low and didn't meet people they passed. It was strange to Katsuki to be so open about his sexuality, it wasn't like he should feel ashamed or anything, he'd had supportive parents who both loved Izuku to bits and pieces. It was just something he tried to ignore.
"You okay?" Izuku asked quietly, jerking Katsuki's attention from his thoughts. He glanced down at the worried expression on his normally outgoing boyfriend.
"I'm fine," Katsuki huffed out but after a moment he said quieter for only Izuku to hear, "I guess I'm a little fucking worried…I don't know, it's stupid."
Izuku shook his head and carefully pulled Katsuki over so their friends could keep walking. "If you're nervous it's not stupid. What are you nervous about?" Izuku had managed to grasp Katsuki's other hand and with those damn eyes, Katsuki couldn't just lie and say it was nothing, that there wasn't anything he was worried about.
"I…I don't know," Katsuki finally admitted, his gaze flickering towards their friends who all were so damn supportive and loving. He really didn't have it bad so why was he so worried? The harsh words he remembered in junior high…They were the ones that rung out in the back of his mind, it wasn't anything he had said but other bullies had…and those words had been pointed at Izuku a lot. He finally looked back at Izuku, "I just want you to know I'm sorry. For the things in middle school. That I couldn't even leave you alone, or at the very least keep the others from picking on you…"
Izuku's smile faltered for a moment but he squeezed Katsuki's hands. "You've been forgiven Kacchan, you know that. Things were different then, we've come so far since then," Izuku smiled gently up at him. "You denied yourself to a lot of things at that point, but you don't have to worry about today. I'm with you. The real you, the one that makes me happy and feels loved, the one that protects me when I do dumb things to try and help others. The one that drags me to bed when I'm trying to run myself into the ground." Izuku was breathless after his word vomit but he meant every word of it and Katsuki knew that. "I love you Katsuki."
The angst-filled blonde finally nodded after a moment, a small smile broke across his lips. "You really do love me, huh?" That made Izuku snort but he kept that loving smile on his lips.
"Of course I love you." It was so obvious in everything Izuku did when it came to Katsuki, everyone could see that. With that Katsuki's smile grew and his body seemed to relax.
"I love you too, you nerd," Katsuki murmured, his cheeks heating up. He could handle holding hands in public but saying 'I love you' apparently got him flustered, and it was cute in Izuku's opinion. With that, they joined their friends and headed towards where Mina and Sero had gotten them a good spot to watch the parade. Katsuki really did relax with his friends once the parade started, watching all those people proudly strut their stuff made him feel really good. He even was able to build up the courage to kiss Izuku in public, in front of their friends and strangers. No one even thought twice about it or cared and that felt so good.
"I love you," Katsuki murmured against Izuku's lips before stealing a second kiss. Izuku had melted into the kiss and only after a few moments was able to pull himself away, but he didn't try and move away from Katsuki's embrace. No instead Izuku relaxed and leaned into Katsuki's chest as he watched the parade.
"We need to check out the seller's booth," Mina announced brightly when the parade had wrapped up. Izuku pulled Katsuki along as they headed towards the area that had been set up for people to sell homemade merchandise. The group was able to find a bunch of things they liked and bought, glad to help local artists. Izuku ended up with the most buttons rivaling Denki's, the two looked like kids with all the buttons.
Denki and Jirou lead the group towards the block that had been closed off so they could set up a dance area and pump out music that left even Katsuki wanting to dance. It was obvious in moments who the DJ was, Mic wouldn't pass up an event like this. And anyway, he was the best so of course, he wanted his community to have the most fun they could get.
Izuku and Katsuki were both laughing and clinging to one another. They honestly had the most fun they had in a long time on a date. Katsuki even admitting that Izuku was right, that he would have fun, that there really wasn't anything to worry about.
That was until they were leaving. The group was going to head back to Bakugou's to unwind and watch a few movies before dispersing for the night…Katsuki gritted his teeth as he saw the group at the edge of the fenced area.
Izuku stopped, throwing his arm out in front of his friends. "We are not going that way," Katsuki growled as he caught the red letterings on the signs, the ones that left him wanting to fight them all.
"What's up?" Eijiro asked, squinting ahead. As the redhead caught sight of the words on those ugly signs his smile dropped. "Are they…Are they serious?"
Iida squared his shoulders as he moved forward as if he would lead them past the hateful group of people. "They might be allowed to spew their ugly words but they are not allowed to touch us. We just need to pass them and ignore them," Iida said, looking over the group.
"It's easier said than done," Jirou frowned, leaning against Momo. It was strange to Katsuki to see Jirou who rarely showed fear to look as nervous as Katsuki felt.
"We have the numbers on our side," Izuku said, squeezing Katsuki's hand protectively. "And we all got strong quirks if they even do try something. We can defend ourselves."
After some debate going back and forth they eventually headed towards the exit. They wanted to go back and rest, the hate group couldn't physically touch them and that was what they kept telling each other. But it was hard to ignore their shouting and protesting.
Katsuki could feel his rage boiling in his blood as they got closer and closer to the loudest member, he had to be the leader. "You all are doomed to hell if you don't repent!" The blonde shot the man a glare that normally was reserved for villains and that seemed to only add fuel to the man's words. "You are going to hell!" He even pointed right at Katsuki with his free hand. That made Katsuki almost lose his shit but instead, he smirked at the man, pulling Izuku to him before dipping him and giving him a kiss in front of the group.
"You're only a jealous old man," Katsuki yelled back at the leader, "You're fuckin' jealous my boyfriend loves me and you're in a loveless marriage!" Katsuki's friends were quick to start to drag him away. They all knew once he was really angry that there would be some really ugly words passed back and forth.
"It's fine Kacchan," Izuku murmured softly up to Katsuki once they were far enough that they were less worried that Katsuki might start setting off explosions. "We'll go home and just cuddle and watch those dumb cheesy movies," Izuku continued softly, trying to calm the older man. Instead of the group hanging around their friends went home so they could just spend time together.
Once Izuku and Katsuki were home, the two managed to drag every single blanket they owned to the living room where they could build a nest of sorts on their couch. They were comfy under their blankets when Katsuki finally broke down, his face buried in Izuku's shoulder.
It was a rare moment when Katsuki broke down when he cried. Though it was only ever just Izuku that witnessed it, who Katsuki trusted not to make fun of him. To support him and help him feel better. Izuku rubbed at Katsuki's back, murmuring soft and loving words. It wasn't long before the blond exhausted himself, laying his head on Izuku's chest with the blanket pulled up over his head, just enough was uncovered that Izuku could see the red puffiness around his eyes.
"We had fun overall, right?" Izuku softly asked, rubbing the older boy's back gently.
Katsuki nodded as he yawned. "Up till we had to pass those fuckers," Katsuki grumbled.
"You did really good though," Izuku said, "I thought for sure you were going to end up punching that guy's face."
"I thought about it," Katsuki admitted, "But I thought the kiss would do more damage to his kind."
Izuku chuckled softly, "Probably. That was a really good kiss by the way. I wouldn't mind you kissing me like that more while we're on dates."
Katsuki looked up at Izuku with that smirk of his. "I bet you would, you gotta earn those kinds," Katsuki teased. Izuku seemed to relax then, seeing Katsuki return to his normal snarky attitude.
"I might have to do more than," Izuku giggled, pressing a kiss to his boyfriend's forehead. "I love you so much Katsuki," He murmured softly, "I love you more than anyone else in this world."
"I love you too," Katsuki mumbled.
"What?"
"You're a nerd!" Katsuki said louder as his cheeks flushed a dark red. That left Izuku giggling and pressing all the kisses he could over his lover's face.

BNHA Rewatch: Season 1, Episode 1: Izuku Midoriya Origin
mysterylover123
First episode! I love this episode (well, the two-parter, anyway, as a whole. First chapter I guess). One of my favorite intros to a series ever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First scene! My ship! And their terrible, awful, rocky starting line. I hope the final scene of the series is some kind of callback to this, with an ironic twist on it. But yeah, this is Deku and Kacchan at the start of the series, at their most flawed. Deku being all hero with no super, Kacchan being all super with no heroism. But that’s about to change!
(why are they so cute?!)
Tumblr media
I think this scene is what cemented to me that I liked this series right off the bat. I love how they introduce the concept of what it’s like to live in a world where superhero battles are kind of mundane, with this guy on the phone telling his boss he’ll be late for work. Because of a super villain battle.
Tumblr media
Deku! Precious smile that cures me of all my ills. I love his design, BTW - I’m not sure what it is, but the freckles, the green hair and huge eyes, he’s just so unique looking. I can’t think of another character who I think he looks like.
(First impressions were basically: I love this guy, he’s totally like me. No wonder I relate to a geeky kid who takes too many notes on comic book heroes)
Tumblr media
So Deku’s class full of weirdos. How many pre-UA fanfics have these folks featured in, I wonder?
Tumblr media
Ah, Kacchan. First impressions: Apparently, I think like Tomura, because I totally thought this kid was being set up as a villain first time around. And I loved him. I love villains who are cool and charismatic and loved by all! (I started changing my tune by the end of episode 2). Yes, I like Bakugo. So if that’s a deal-breaker, just a warning (he’ll always be second to Deku though. Sorry.)
Tumblr media
Ooh, this ugly scene. I don’t remember what I thought of it at first, I just know that the fandom never stops bickering about it. Horikoshi has flat-out admitted that he didn’t mean Bakugo to come across this bad in the first chapter and feels he wrote him too evil though.
(BTW I think Horikoshi is the most “literally me” Mangaka of them all. I relate to him painfully hard. Ever commentary I hear from him about his experiences sounds like there’s some older Japanese male clone of me wandering around making manga.)
Better informed BKG meta writers than me have meta’d about this scene to death, and there’s about 50 billion fanfics out there where Deku tries it and turns into Yusuke Urameshi or something. I do wonder if this scene in particular will ever get a callback; I kinda doubt it.
Tumblr media
Baby Deku doing the headbang while watching All Might vids. Meanwhile I headbang while watching this scene. Headbang-ception.
Tumblr media
Sad Baby Deku’s backstory. Rips my heart out every goddamn time they replay it. And they replay it a lot.
To get kinda serious, Deku being quirkless is sometimes interpreted as allegorical to being aneurotypical - I still remember how things were when my mom told me I had Asperger’s, and it was a lot like this scene (with less tears, because I was like 12 and 12 year olds don’t cry) - and I can totally see it. That’s one of the things I love about BNHA, btw - other superhero verses make having powers be analagous to being differently abled/LGBT/not-white/whatever, different in some way, not part of the privileged group, which just doesn’t make sense. Being gay does not equal shooting laser beams from your eyes. But being non powered in a world where most people have powers? That analogy works.
Sorry to get ya’ll down. Back to  cuteness!
Tumblr media
Deku being so considerate of Bakugo! (ilovehimhaveimentioned) And still keeping up hope, in the face of all this sadness.
Thought in hindsight, it’s interesting how this still reflects Izuku’s character flaws. I mean, he’s not perfect. He likes to talk about how he could do this, but until the Sludge Villain Incident he never really does anything to make it happen. He’s a dreamer, but that’s also a problem. Shoto points this out later on “You need to back up your words with actions”.
Tumblr media
Deku gets attacked by the sludge villain. I love how they animated this, now having read the manga as well - his blurry vision really puts you in the scene.
Tumblr media
This next bit is perfect. Deku is more excited about meeting All Might than nearly dying. He has to get his autograph - but he’s already got it! (All Might you treasure).
Tumblr media
The final scene on the roof is really interesting, it’s an odd place to cut the first chapter. But it does set up the big WTF twist at the start of ep 2. Episode 2 is one of my favorites of the whole series and I can’t wait to get to it tomorrow. As for Episode 1, it’s a solid setup and I’m so glad it hooked me in right away.
BKDK Corner:
Tumblr media
So since, like, every episode has a little BKDK and I love it, I just figured I’d shove it in a section at the end of each recap.
Episode 1, where they start off on terrible terms with each other. Bakugo is introduced as a stereotypical bully, Deku as your typical lovable hero. You don’t really get into their layers until Episode 2 (though it’s all the same chapter in the manga). I like how the anime added a small look of “huh?” to Baby Kacchan’s face in the first scene, where he’s like ‘WTF why is Deku suddenly acting tough’ for a minute. Deku also gets protective towards him, even protecting Kacchan from himself. I didn’t start shipping them until episode 2, and I didn’t want to at first because they argue so much, but I fell in love with it anyway.
BEST GIRL OF THE EP: Mt Lady/Yu Takayama!

Revival of Midoriya Izuku part 2
Well well well, its been 84 years hasn’t it? as always you can find the fic under the the same name on ao3. looking forward to the comments and notes
“I can’t believe you dragged me out before I could put on some of my best moves” whined Izuku as he fell into step with the doctor.
“See, the issue here is that there is no difference between your best and your worst moves” deadpanned Shin. “I was saving you from yourself” he added as an afterthought, while mentally praying (to whichever God that has yet to be killed by Izuku) for the safety and sanity of Izuku’s new crush.
It’s been a long day for both of them to say the least. What started off as a casual meet up for breakfast ended up becoming another one of Izuku’s shenanigans that got them both arrested. While that in itself is nothing new, this time they’ve been held up for much longer than usual, because of course they were.
The duo (or trio if you were to count the alleged dog) were currently on their way to Izuku’s house, as the doctor insisted on walking him home from the police station while his mom went in the opposite direction to buy some groceries for tonight’s dinner.
“Saving me?” scoffed Izuku “I think its a bit too late for that. But it doesn’t matter, I still have a chance.”
“How so?” asked Shin, with about 80% of disbelievement and 20% curiosity.
The question above has unfortunately unleashed Izuku’s Rant ™ mode.
“That guy mentioned coming back from an entrance exam. If we take into account all the schools that are within a relatively short distance from the police station, as well as the time he arrived, the only logical conclusion would be the UA exam that we KNOW took place today. Also he’s Tensei’s brother, which means he has to have a pretty good quirk so I don’t doubt he passed the entrance exam with flying colours. Do you know what that means Shin?!” asked the teen, with an excitement of a squirrel on 23 red bulls.
“It means that your stalker tendencies are making a comeback?” which apparently was the wrong answer as the doctor’s kneecaps soon found themselves becoming victims of Trash Bandit’s headbutting.
“NO!- I mean, yeah but-” stammered the boy “-the point IS that I know where to find him! Once the new school year starts I can just go to UA to see him whenever!”
“Uh-huh, and what about that teeny-tiny detail of, oh I dunno, YOU NOT ATTENDING UA, IN FACT YOU NOT ATTENDING SCHOOL AT ALL?!”
“First of all, don’t you fuckin use that tone with me Doc, you’re making it sound like I’m a drop-out” pointed Izuku “And second of all, how dare you assume that something as simple as a security system can come in the way of me getting laid.” Not to mention he has technically enrolled into a high school, whether or not he will actually attend is a different story.
“Why do I even bother?” lamented the doctor “I should’ve just kept you locked at the psych ward when I had the chance.”
“But ya didn’t!”
The two continued their usual banter, until they finally reached Izuku’s neighbourhood, at which point the boy took the pity on the bespectacled man and told him to go home, knowing that the man haven’t slept in the last 36 hours and that another 12 hour shift was awaiting him tomorrow morning.
“Oh shit, I do need to go home” mumbled Shin. “I didn’t get to call my wife when we were at the station.”
“What do you mean you didn’t get to call her?” asked Izuku, while trying to hide his surprise and disappointment at the doctor’s marital status, as it puts his matchmaking plans to an end before they would truly begin “Didn’t they give you one call to make?”
“Well yes, but it was a long day and I got hungry, so I ended up calling a takeaway instead.”
“You know Shin, I never thought I would say this about you, but BIG MOOD.”
It was only after they bid each other farewell and went their separate ways that Izuku has noticed something strange. He felt like he was being followed, and for once it wasn’t a quil induced paranoia (or maybe it was? kinda hard to tell these days), looking over to Bandit, he noticed that the sheep also seemed to be on guard. So it’s not just me then .
He made a subtle turn, trying to see if there there were any people behind him. In doing so he failed to notice the the sudden appearance of a tall figure in front of him and was thus more than unprepared for the incoming “ I AM HE-! ”
“BANDIT! ATTACK!”
What followed was a litany of confused screams and vengeful sheep noises enveloped in a spontaneous cloud of smoke, which Izuku threw his axe at, because that is now his go-to solution for any problem. If he wasn’t already so startled by the whole situation he probably would’ve noticed that said cloud of smoke was vaguely All-Might shaped, at least before the sheep was added to the equation. As the smoke began to dissipate it revealed a tall, skeletal figure of a man who looked like if one of those ugly ragdolls you find at goodwill stores came to life. The man in question barely managed to stop the incoming axe using his bare hands, keeping the blade in a karate chop like hold, which would’ve been impressive if it wasn’t for the fact that Trash Bandit was hanging off the man, chewing on his blond his hair. So to say that the current situation was confusing would be a big understatement.
“Who the fuck are you?!” asked Izuku, playing up his ‘good cop/bad cop’ act, except the good cop went and killed himself 9 months prior by smashing his head open against a koi pond, because that’s how it always is within the world of criminal justice; the good ones die too young. Doesn’t matter, Bandit can play a cop, whether he’d be good is questionable, but he’d still a better job than like 90% of the police force he dealt with so far. Except Tsukauchi, he’s a good bitch, far to overworked and underpaid for his job. He’s perfect. Him and Shin would be perfect together, if the doctor wasn’t married that is. Wait, what was he saying?
Oh yeah.
“I asked who the fuck are you” he repeated while pulling out his backup axe out of his yellow backpack “And I don’t like to repeat myself, especially to some old, creepy guys who seem to think it’s ok to go around following underage boys” he explained as he waved his weapon in an unspoken threat.
Which seemed to do the trick as the stranger started to fumble around looking for an excuse and a way to pull the sheep off his hair.
“Aah, sorry about the misunderstanding! We’ve met briefly during the villain attack earlier today. What you did back there was incredible young man!”
“Yeah yeah, pretty sure I would remember meeting a guy who looks like he’s one step away from dropping dead, now answer my question. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?”
The man seemed to hesitate as he looked around to make sure no other people were around, which was dumb given that they were still very much in a public place “It’s kinda complicated” he said eventually, like the bullshitter he probably was.
“Look bitch, my whole life is ‘complicated’ ” exclaimed Izuku using obnoxious air quotes “So out with it!”
“What I’m about to tell you is extremely confidential” replied the man, with the grave seriousness of someone who’s about to reveal to their own son after ten years of absence that they’re a mercenary, and yes he is getting personal, fuck you “Under no circumstances are you allowed to tell anyone about my identity-”
“Your fuckin’ secret is safe with my indifference” deadpanned the boy.
The man sighed and took a tentative step back. Once again a cloud of smoke enveloped him. It disappeared almost as soon it came, revealing a figure of no-other than motherfuckin’ All Might.
“I suppose this form is more memorable , isn’t that right young Midoriya?” asked the man, as if he wasn’t a goddamn living legend revealing his secret identity to a kid whose hobbies include committing felony, ravaging through junkyards; and being gay.
“JESUS FUCK! You can’t just DO THAT! Revealing your secret to a random civilian? What the hell All Might, you had too much dumb bitch juice or what?” screamed Izuku, or rather ‘whisper screamed’ as he was trying to juggle scolding his ‘used-to-be role model’ and having an internal meltdown over scolding his ‘used-to-be role model’! To say that the situation he found himself in was bizzare would’ve been an understatement.
After all, it’s not everyday that you meet a man whose very face was a reminder of all the things you could not have, and the person you never got to be. He felt wronged, like the universe has robbed him of an opportunity, except that is not the case as there was nothing to steal to begin with. Still, that vicious little voice inside his head that always whispered ‘you can’t do this’, ‘you can’t have this’ in a poor imitation of Kacchan became almost bearable over time. Almost , being the key word. It became less of an insistent, self-deprecating chant it once was, and slowly morphed into something akin to a static noise from those old TVs; quiet and ever so slightly inconvenient at best, but otherwise unnoticeable unless one deliberately thought about it. And now, being forced to face All Might, Izuku could hear that voice louder than ever before, reminding him of what a failure he used to be, how naive he used to be and ‘did you really believe you could ever compare yourself to him? ’
“Actually, you know what? Nevermind” he continued, hoping to carry the conversation enough to distract him from his own thoughts “Just...why did you want to talk to me? After what happened?”
“Ah, yes! What you did during that villain attack was incredible my boy, reckless but incredible” exclaimed All Might, with the casualness of someone remarking on unusually nice weather despite his overly enthusiastic tone “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen such honest bravery, especially from someone as young as yourself. Even when faced with a villain that other heroes did not dare to go up against, you still ran head first towards the danger, despite lacking any power yourse-” and his inspirational ramble got interrupted by a bloody cough and YET ANOTHER cloud of smoke, reverting him back to his skeletal form.
“Ok yeah- I get it! I’m awesome, the baddest bitch in the town and whatever the fuck, but CAN YOU PLEASE stop coughing up blood?”
All Might continued to wheeze for another minute or so, while Izuku and by extension Bandit were fretting over him.
“I apologise, my health is not what it used to be”
“I can tell”
“You see, 6 years ago I was fighting this one villain-”
“No, stop- don’t care” interrupted Izuku as he waved his hands in a dismissive manner “Please spare me the unnecessary narrative exposition, everyone already knows the story.”
“Who is ‘everyone’? And what are you talking about?” asked All Might in utter bewilderment.
“ Oh, you know ” says Izuku, addressing the reader more so than answering All Might.
That answer explained exactly nothing, but All Might was willing to let it drop and move onto the actual reason for his sudden presence, which if he was being honest with himself he was already regretting.
“Midoriya my boy” he said instead “The reason I wanted to speak to you is because I have a proposition for you...”
“Goddamnit! I knew it!” exclaimed Izuku in a sarcastic, yet over dramatic manner not unlike the characters from Shin’s favourite telenovelas “I knew you were a dirty bastard all along, picking up boys off the streets, using your hero persona to gain their trust-”
“I beg your pardon?!” shouted All Might, ever so scandalised as he did not catch onto Izuku’s joke.
“Then beg” deadpanned Izuku.
Making fun of the number one hero was all nice and good in Izuku’s opinion, but the man did seek him out for a particular reason and they’ve been loitering around the neighbourhood long enough. It was about the time to stop the jokes and get to the point.
“Ok ok, jokes aside, what do you want?”
“I want you to be a hero”
Ouch, too fuckin’ soon.
“Uhm, I don’t know how to tell you this you All Mighty fool but that’s not gonna happen” replied Izuku, utterly unimpressed and very much ready to start crying at any point now “I’m a ‘quirkless nobody’ remember?”
“That can be changed” announced the man, with such conviction that Izuku was almost willing to believe it, despite the ridiculousness of the statement.
“I don’t think it can”
“My quirk is rather unusual, in a way that it can be passed onto another person. I was also quirkless before it was passed onto me and so-”
Oh, no, no no - no fuckin’ way, this is not happening! He knows where this shit is going-
“-due to my health it’s about time for me to find a successor”
“All Might” said Izuku, his voice trembling in fear of what was coming “Don’t, please don’t ask me that question” because he couldn’t bear to hear it, the possibility that was all but wasted, that came far too late, that he let go off before it even presented itself-
“I want you to be a hero” repeated the man.
Instead of an answer, All Might received a pitiful wail.
Because it wasn't fair, wasn’t fair at all. Izuku knew that life wasn’t fair, the fact learnt and ingrained deep within his soul since the day he received the diagnosis. And yet THIS was a new height of cruelty all together, it made Kacchan’s remarks seem like light teasing in comparison. It took everything he once deeply desired, but couldn’t have. Everything he had to give up on that rainy afternoon 9 months ago in order to put himself back together after falling apart for something he could never have; it took all of that and dangled it in front of him like a cheap bait. It was pure mockery. It made his blood boil. So much so that he could do nothing but cry and fall on his knees.
“You know -sob- if you made that offer a year ago, I probably would’ve said yes”
“And now?”
“And now” he whispered in between the sobs “And now I’m gonna ask you to fuck off!”
“Why?” asked All Might, completely stunned by the boy’s reaction.
“BECAUSE I CAN’T DO IT!” screamed Izuku, like a wounded animal that he very much looked like “ I CAN’T BE A HERO, NOR DO I WANT TO BE ONE, NEVER AGAIN!”
It was all too much, far too much, he needed to leave, leave this conversation, leave this man, leave this thought and never look back.
He slowly stood back up, Bandit ever so faithfully waiting at his side holding one of his axes in his mouth like a dog who proudly brings the morning newspaper to their human. Still, it felt wrong to leave without saying anything else, especially considering All Might’s bewilderment.
“I-” and he wasn’t even sure how to explain himself “I always wanted to be a good person and help people, don’t get me wrong, but-”
“But?”
“-but I’ve learnt that being a hero and doing the right thing are two very different things” he stated, remembering the words of his father; words far too powerful, presence far too brief. “Being a ‘hero’ no longer stands for the bravery, nobility and selflessness. It used to, but now it’s merely a job title; a dangerous job yes, but it’s just a job. Originally all real heroes were vigilantes, weren’t they? They took the risk for the sake of doing the right thing, regardless of what the law said, and now heroes are just glorified cops” he ranted.
For a moment Izuku thought he said enough, but there was another thing; a personal thing , even more personal than the whole ‘failed dream’ and ‘existential crisis’ business.
“You said you used to be quirkelss as well, didn’t ya?”
The man in question nodded, not sure where this is going.
“So tell me, the great All Might” exclaimed Izuku as he approached the hero, spitting his name like it was a curse “Why did you accept that quirk?”
The man stood still, staring at Izuku, as if looking long enough will tell his the correct answer.
“Did you want to be a hero? Or did you want to do the right thing?”
“I-”
Ok, so maybe abruptly leaving All Might in the middle of the empty street wasn’t the smartest thing he’s ever done, but Izuku never denied being a dumbass so fuck him sideways. He was far too worked up for all of this bullshit. The day already turned to shit with the whole sludge fiasco and now the universe decided to test his patience and sanity (which he did not have much of anyway). Although he is a little glad that he left before he could dish out some of the more vicious things he had in stock, like calling All Might a ‘quirkless sellout’, or anything else of that variety as long as it got the point across. Sure he promised to keep the man’s secret, but he never promised to be nice about it, because fuck him, he can still do good things and help people, even without a quirk.
The point was that he was bitter, which ok, nothing new, but he was particularly bitter about the whole quirkless thing. It wasn’t so much that he thought of himself as worthless, those days were long over for the most part thanks to months of therapy. It was All Might’s offer that felt like a slap to the face.
Regardless of his current views on heroism he had potential , and isn’t that how the whole thing started? All Might approached him because he saw potential…
A potential that couldn’t be of much use without a quirk.
And didn’t that fuckin hurt.
He suddenly regretted burning the entirely of his All Might merch right after being discharged from the hospital, because now he had nothing left to destroy.
Nevertheless he dropped Bandit off at home - his mother already there, working on tonight’s dinner - and made his way to the Dagobah beach, or what was left of it anyways. During the past 9 months he became more restless; even with homeschooling he had far too much free time than he knew what to do with, which partially resulted in his shenanigans, but it also resulted in looking for a place where he could just be . His mother, bless her soul, was far too overbearing at times despite her good intentions and Izuku was a bit more than fed up with hearing “Are you ok?” every twenty minutes like a goddamn clockwork.
And so he started visiting the local beach, which hasn’t looked like a beach in a long time, as people began to dump their junk there years ago. Bad for the environment, great for Izuku’s need for solitude.
As he entered the beach grounds and began to stumble through the usual mountains of trash he greeted the few people who usually hanged around the place, one of them being the ‘Florida woman’.
Florida woman was not her actual name, but he never asked and she never told him. All he knew was that she was from Florida and that she frequented the trash beach grounds, because it was the only place empty enough where she could take her pet crocodile out on a walk without people screaming in terror at the giant reptile. The crocodile in question, named Cracksaw was lovely and much more obedient than Bandit, he couldn’t understand why people made such a big deal about it.
Another beach regular was Hitoshi, who Izuku met in a cat cafe last year. The guy looked like a lovechild of a zombie and one of those tiny troll dolls from the early 2000s, although Izuku’s hair is just as much of a mess, so he probably can’t judge. Hitoshi was also applying to UA’s hero course and so they originally agreed to meet up this morning so that Izuku could give him some words of ‘encouragement’ or whatever the fuck it is friends are supposed to say. However, since Izuku got caught up in an impromptu fight with a villain he wasn’t able to meet him in the morning.
“Where have you been this morning?” asked Hitoshi.
“Fighting a villain” replied Izuku, ever so casually.
“I can’t tell whether you’re joking or not”
“It’s better if you don’t”
Which is how most of their exchanges went anyway. The less they know about you the better afterall, at least according to the Florida woman. Nevertheless he got caught up in a bit of a smalltalk with Hitoshi, asking about how he did at the exam and so on.
“And so we’re all sitting here, the presentation is just about to start and suddenly the door slams open and some guys runs in-” remarks Hitoshi, more excited than Izuku has seen him in a long time, which to be fair doesn’t say much, because he still looks like he has a serious case of a tired bitch face “- foaming out of his mouth and muttering about fighting a sheep. For a moment I thought you had something to do with it, but the guy looked like he had rabies”
“It’s not rabies, that’s just his personality” replied Izuku, fully aware that he did in fact had everything to do with this, but was not willing to give out anymore details.
“All right, then. Keep your secrets.”
“Oh buddy, I sure will.”
