walter exists and molokov is named ivan in the chess benefit concert. i have concerns
#chess the musical#i’m sorry walter it’s not personal but most productions of chess where you exist are not very good#same with molokov being ivan the ones where he’s aleksandr are better

Vladimir Viigand and Leonid Viigand are twin brothers they’re both good at chess 😊
#chess the musical#making up reasons for the name change#meanwhile ivan and alexander are just two different names molokov goes by#cause he’s a spy or whatever#walter’s last name changes for the same reason#it’s spelled differently a lot cause he forgets how to spell his own name sometimes

hey i saw that post abt your soviet chess team OCs and honestly bc i always love your ideas and hcs and everything i'm rly interested!!! who are they? what are they like?? i'd love to know!
Hi omg thank you for asking ilysm !!!
So an important thing to know about all thesecharacters is that my roleplay friend @fredditrumper and I created so many of them because ofthe joke in Broadway/Australia that they have twelve members of their team, basically triple the number of the American team. And from other versions(namely German) we know that Anatoly is followed around/protected by a hugenumber of KGB agents so what my friend and I eventually did was name all ofthem and give them “jobs” that are essentially really see-through titles thatthey use instead of admitting that they’re government agents and are all armedduring the championship. I’ll label which ones are mine (and thus which I havethought more about) and the other ones are hers! As a note, also, these are ourroleplay notes so they’re phrased a bit strangely in places—I didn’t want totype everything again to put it in my more usual phrasing (she wrote hers and Iwrote mine is what I mean).
Nikolai: Molokov’s Personal Assistant. Early thirties.A very cool and collected character. He wears hair product much like Molokovand sunglasses. He’d find himself very above all of the silly things that theywere forced to do to keep up a façade. He’d be a great agent though and woulddo what he needed to do. I think though that he’d be so insulted by the factthat he’d been assigned to this though that he’d basically be viewing it all asa vacation.
Anton (mine): Anatoly’s second. He’s a bitmelancholic, tending more towards sadness than contentment when things werequiet. He would be very calm and objective, definitely level-headed. Despitethis, he wouldn’t be ruled by his emotions. Anton would have been formallyeducated, unlike Anatoly. He would have gone to school for literature with afocus on archaic poetry. Chess would have, of course, been a lifelong passionof his but it wouldn’t have been at the forefront of his mind until a year ortwo after getting his degree. Then he would have become very fixated on itagain and started making gains on the circuit, actually becoming acquaintedwith Anatoly through Viigand a few years before Merano. He would be older thanAnatoly.
Valentin: Anatoly’s second. He’d have actually lovedchess from the very beginning. He’d have gotten into Molokov’s business fromchess, unlike the others. He’d have seeked out Anatoly for the purpose oflearning chess from him. He’d have never expected to have the honor of beinghis second. I think he’d be incredibly driven but very hard on himself. He’dget really self-deprecating when he ‘failed’ at something. He’d tend to alwaysthink that he needed to prove himself useful or intelligent for people to likehim.
Andrey (mine): Doctor. A little bit over thirty. Veryenergetic in all aspects. Quick to laughter but also quick to anger. WhenMolokov tells him to be quiet, it’s usually others who get the brunt of hisfrustrations. He’s a pretty elevated agent. He’d have some actual medicalexperience but more so in emergency situations. He wouldn’t exactly know whatto do about small things like migraine and carpal tunnel.
Ivan: Physical Therapist. He’d have a passion forphotography and landscapes, first and foremost. He’d enjoy the beauty ofeverything around him and he’d actually have a personality that wasn’t veryfitting for his actual line of work. He’d be soft but he’d also be vicious whenhe needed to be. He’d care very deeply for Viktor. When he’d been assigned toMolokov, he’d have gravitated to him almost instantly.
Mikhail (mine): Therapist. He’d be a very sympatheticperson, actually quite fit for his job. He would be very intuitive and verypatient and he would have read quite a few books about cognitive and humanistictherapy before taking the role. He’d want to make sure his players were okayeven though that wasn’t his real job there. He wouldn’t exactly be sweet, however. He’d just have a gentle touch. He would have worried when Anatolystarted talking to him less and less despite feeling increasingly worse.
Viktor (mine) (and my personal favorite!): PressSecretary. He’d be very pessimistic and very focused. He would resent theassignment he’d been given here. Generous (to the right people) and veryconfident in himself- he would have a very easy time being extroverted and hewouldn’t exactly understand people who were awkward or nervous. He’d be verythin, angular, attractive honestly.
Dimitry: Stylist. A bit flippant. He’s always ready tolaugh and chat and gossip. He’d be best friends with Anton despite theirdifferent dispositions. He’d love to talk and would keep the group awake atnight with his chatter.
Vlad: Personal Chef. Resident tough guy of the group. He’d be big and intimidating which he’d love for his job, of course, but itwould really bother him when it interfered with his personal relationships. He’d care about his group like crazy which would lead him to worry abouteverything, too. He’d have idly took a cooking class before they went to Meranobut more for laughs than for actual skill.
We have an even number of characters that we roleplay, actually, because I’m both Molokov and Anatoly and she’s Viigand!
My favorite of my own characters is definitely Viktorand he’s the one I’ve put the most work into. I like to make him the oppositeof Anatoly—where Anatoly is soft, Viktor is sharp. Where Anatoly is trusting,Viktor is skeptical. Where Anatoly is naïve at times, Viktor is very bitter.
She likes Ivan a lot! As a kindness to me, I think, wedevelop her and Viktor as a pair really often. Of her characters, I loveValentin and Dimitry most but her characterization is amazing for each andevery character she ever writes for.
Anyway! These are just basic run-downs on them all butI’d love to talk more about them and about my AUs for them!!!

“What?” he croaked.
Three weeks after his return to Russia, Anatoly will have to endure the hardest trial of all—a dinner party.
