SHIP IT

What made you ship it? - The tragic romance,,, being the last remnant of STRQ yet they were both filled with so much grief that it turns into strife, but they still trust each other to an extent when it comes to the girls. I honestly want to see them talk more about what happens now that Summer is gone, Raven is gone, and the world is turned upside down.

What are your favorite things about the ship? - Old men yaoi hehe. But in all seriousness, I think Tai and Qrow have a really nice dynamic here with both obviously not being perfect, but trying their best to be there for their little family. They remind me of that picture of two stags with their antlers stuck together...so much angst potential.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? - Despite my liking of this ship, I fucking hate Qrow with a passion. He's just a bad character, and with Tai having no relevancy this ship to me is like Tauradonna; it could've been so good if the writers get their heads outta their asses.

"Hey, it's okay, Tai," Qrow said softly. He gently pried the sheet from Tai's hands, setting it back on top of the pile of laundry to be folded.

He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting when he'd come home from his latest mission, but Tai about to have a breakdown in the living room definitely wasn't it. They'd gotten him back on his feet after last time, but apparently there was more work to be done.

Qrow made a mental note to ask Oz for more time off in between his missions. They had enough money that they could last.

"Why don't we go into the kitchen and have some tea? I can fold the laundry and take the girls grocery shopping later, okay?" Then Tai could have a much needed break.

Tai stared down at the seemingly never-ending pile of laundry that he needed to do. Couple that with making sure the girls were fed and clothed (which was hard, when the laundry needed to be done yet again), along with keeping them entertained while he took care of everything else around the house, got groceries (again, to make sure they were fed), along with everything else on his very long to-do list….., and he could feel himself sliding back to a very dark place, a place he didn't want to be. He had his girls to take care of….; he couldn't afford to let himself get that bad again.

The blonde looked up at Qrow's voice, a sheet clutched in his hands, close to breaking down yet again. Qrow's tone was gentle, as though he was talking to an easily spooked animal, and right now, Tai had to say that it would have been an apt comparison.

"I can't do this," he said, and his voice broke on the last word. "I don't know how to do this on my own." He could barely take care of himself right now, let alone the girls. How could he be expected to do this by himself, after everything that had happened?

Raven had left him, and Summer……, well, Summer was gone. And part of him was broken by those facts. Summer had helped keep himself together after Raven had left, but now he was just…..on his own, taking care of two little girls. And he didn't know how he was going to manage.

Can you do Qrow for the character ask please?

I haven't done one of these in ages but I've done two like last year so I'll do the one of those for qrow that I didn't do for him, if that makes sense.

favorite thing about them: He really does have one of the best fighting styles in the cast, its clear the animators have a favourite.

least favorite thing about them: I don't like how his alcoholism has ended up being treated. If they were going to switch from its a funny joke to something serious, in keeping with rwby growing up, then they should have continued treating it seriously instead of writing it off entirely once that plot idea was done. By all rights, if Qrow was going off the drink in Atlas, he should have probably spent most of vol7 in a jocker. It's not an easy thing to give up and the effects are often unpleasant, sometimes life threatening. At the very least he should have been getting resources to handle it instead of just 'nah I don't do this anymore'.

favorite line: "Well, we're all glad you're still here, firecracker." (the hypothetical bond Qrow and Yang should have is great, wish it got focus)

brOTP: Summer and Qrow's hypothetical best friendship is great and I love it. Sorry, but hummingbird is not something I see romantically, it just doesn't work out for me.

random headcanon: Cannot drive. At all. Why would he need to, he can fly. He can't even hotwire a car.

unpopular opinion: I wish Qrow died in the tyrian/clover/qrow fight, all his writing from that point on has been shit and it might have been more fun for Ruby's character if she had to deal with that. He's utterly unlikable in vol8 and he also doesn't even do anything. He sits around complaining about wanting to kill James, takes no responsibility for his own actions in Clover's death, and then completely switches tracks from 'fight james' to 'fight harriet' because... Robyn said? Idk, they set up a Harriet vs Winter and a Qrow vs Ironwood fight in vol8 and delivered on neither, that's not subversive, that's just boring.

Well, okay actually Fairy AU is Not Your Ordinary Tinkerbell - the FG Dark Fairy AU. That one already has it’s first chapter posted up! I’ll give you the rest though. To Qrow Branwen

This is a high school-style love story in which Qrow is getting anonymous love letters in his locker - one for every day leading up to Valentine’s day.

Snippet: 

Qrow slammed his locker shut, hastily shoving the note between the pages of his math textbook as he glanced up and down the hall. But no one was comically staring too hard to gauge his reaction or poised with a film camera to document the hilarity of their hoax. He strode down the rows of lockers, beelining for the science classroom he and his friends had made their hangout spot before first period.

Professor Ironwood was writing out the day’s lesson on the whiteboard, sparing him a glance. “Good morning Qrow.”

“Morning.” He mumbled, hurrying for the back of the classroom.

As usual, he was the last to arrive. Bart was already three-quarters through his daily triple-shot espresso, jabbering on about some documentary he’d been watching the night before. Despite having his head pillowed into his arms, Oz seemed to be listening. Summer and Tai were sharing a plate of French toast sticks one of them had picked up from the school cafeteria.

Tai offered him one when he sat down in the empty seat beside him. When Qrow waved off the offer, he shoved the whole thing in his mouth, saying around it, “Ye’lright?”

“Dude. Someone’s messing with me.” Qrow wasn’t sure if the feeling in his stomach could really qualify as butterflies. They felt more like bees, swarming and stinging.

At least Tai swallowed first this time. “What?”

He pulled out the letter, pushing it across the table. As Tai lent closer to read it, Summer practically draping over him to get a look herself, he mumbled, “It was in my locker this morning.”

One Stormy Night

This is... admittedly, one of my darker stories that will probably not see the light of day. I won’t go into details, but it’s a modern-day Taiqrow story, in which on one of his weekly visits to his boyfriend, Qrow realizes Tai’s behavior has changed drastically, seemingly overnight. The night of a storm... Snippet:

The weather was gloomy and damp, the sky heavy with pale grey clouds. It was clear the damage was already done, the rain leaving the streets precarious with oil-slickened puddles and the trees evenly spaced along the sidewalk having greedily sucked in their fill, displaying a healthy green hue. Qrow stepped out of his car, getting hit immediately by the lingering briskness tempering the normally intolerable humidity Boston had to offer. He was all too happy to welcome the arrival of autumn, looking forward to walks through the Public Garden with Tai and getting drinks afterwards at their favorite little hole-in-the-wall café that served the best seasonal teas.

He checked his phone as he rounded his car, seeing there was still no response to the multiple texts he’d sent his boyfriend. As he hit the call button, he peered up towards the second-floor apartment, the one occupant with the yellow curtains standing out amongst the rest. A little bright spot in a surrounding sea of blacks, blues and browns.

There wasn’t even a ring as the voicemail kicked on. “Hey, you reached Taiyang. Sorry, I missed your call but I must be a little Tai-ed up right now. Leave a-”

He ended the call before it could finish. Oh, he couldn’t wait to give it to Tai for being the one to forget to charge his phone for once. Two whole years of hearing nothing but ‘Qrow, you need to be more responsible.’ and ‘What if there’s an emergency and I need to reach you?’ and ‘What if I’m on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and you’re my lifeline and I lose because you won’t charge your stupid phone!’, finally, the tables had turned.

Qrow pulled open the passenger door to fetch the bag of take-out, all the while pondering over the possibilities of what he could say. He had to make sure it was a good one; there was no telling when he’d get this chance again. Maybe get him with his own humor? Like a pun? ‘Guess I’ll see you text fall?’

Nah, it was so dumb Tai would be too busy laughing over it.

Brownies

Another story that may never get finished. Another modern day Taiqrow story! God I got a lot of these xD The story premise here is Taiyang recently got out of a relationship and needs a place to live. Heartbroken, he turns to Qrow who can’t just leave his best friend out in the cold. Things develop from there.

The reason I named that one brownies is because... well...

Snippet:

Qrow hurried around the couch. Sure enough, Tai had a large bowl in his lap. Inside were streaks of the remaining brownie mix, the God of all baking mixes to eat uncooked.

Tai turned to him, amusement dancing in his eyes. He licked the spoon with deliberate slowness. “Can I help you?”

“Yeah.” He said, sitting down and sliding in close. “Give me some.”

“No way.” Tai said, getting another spoonful. “I bought it. I made it. It’s all for me.”

The challenge was made.

Their gazes met.

Tai tightened his grip on the spoon.

Inch by inch, he rose it to his mouth.

Mere centimeters before he could eat it, Qrow sprung. He clutched onto his arm, grabbing wildly for the bowl.

“No!” Tai yelped, yanking the bowl away, practically pulling Qrow with him so he could toss it onto the corner of the table. It hit loudly, rotating on its bottom, before safely settling.

The distraction was enough though, because Qrow managed to shove Tai down onto the couch, using his better leverage to wrestle his arm close. His tongue flicked along the back of the spoon. He yelled in triumph, “I licked it! It’s mine!”

“Nope.” Tai rejected, snatching it with his now free hand and cramming the whole thing in his mouth. He was grinning.

“Cheater!!”

“You child.” His words distorted around the spoon.

Qrow glared at him, before setting his sights on the bowl. Innocent, alone – and his for the taking!

He sprung again.

He heard the noise of denial just as muscled arms enclosed around him as firmly as a bear trap, before flipping them around until Qrow was pinned sideways, trapped between Tai’s body and the couch cushions. His arms slid from around him. Hands pressed firmly against his sides.

Then Tai attacked him with his greatest weapon of all.

Merciless tickling.

Been thinking about this again. Just to reiterate

How long had he been standing at the door? Qrow wasn’t sure. The journey had been long and with each moment closer he’d played the events that would happen next a thousand times in a hundred different ways.

His fist had only barely knocked before the door was flung open and his faded crimson eyes locked with a familiar blue. That smile. Qrow only saw it for a flash before he felt himself forcibly pulled into a tight embrace. Taiyangs larger form creating a inescapable yet still surprising gentle hold on the thinner huntsman.

For a moment Qrow could have been comforted by the gesture. If this were any other time. Any other circumstances. Instead the warmth of Tai’s touch only twisted the knife more as Qrow rested his head against his friends shoulder.

“I thought I’d be furious once I saw you, but gods I’m just happy you’re in one piece” Taiyang chuckled letting go only so much as to hold the huntsman at arms length. The relief in the blondes gaze flickered slightly as his eyes moved occasionally past Qrow’s shoulder to the tree line at the end of his property. “Where are the girls?”

And there it was. That singular moment Qrow had been dreading. The way his former teammate, his friend- a brother..looked into his eyes with a silent fear buried deep behind his azure gaze.

“...Tai..”

“Oh! Ofcourse..you must’ve flown ahead of them” a heartfelt chuckle passed Taiyangs lips as he turned to head back inside “quite a trip from the port all the way back here after all. Course the girls have been off the island so long I’ll bet they stopped along the way to say hi to a few friends.”

Closing the door behind him Qrow silently watched as Taiyang busied himself around the kitchen. Pots and pans and an assortment of ingredients being pulled out as the humming from from the blondes lips filled the air.

“Tai..”

The word only seemed to light a fire under the blondes movements. Frantically beginning the preperation of what would likely be a hearty feast to celebrate the return of the family to the warm wooden halls of the Xiao Long home.

“Should I do a stew? Maybe something more exciting? Ruby and Yangs friends are probably with them. That’s fine though you know I’ve always been one to make to much. Who knows maybe they can even stay over it’s been too long since-“

“Tai” the firm grip of Qrows hand on his shoulder brought an instant stop to Taiyangs movement. He seemed frozen in place. “Tai ...they-“

“Don’t say it.”

Taiyangs voice was almost too quiet to hear and though Qrow couldn’t see his face from this angle. He knew the tears were already beginning to fall down the man’s face from the way his shoulders shook.

“Not them” he whispered to himself more than Qrow “not them too..”

Tai, unable to keep himself steady managed to barely keep himself upright against the the cabinet with one hand. It was like a vise squeezed Qrows heart. Here he was again. He was this instrument of sorrow, a harbinger of nothing but pain. His own eyes flooded as the image of the smiling faces of his nieces burned themselves into his minds eye. They’d lost them. Just like they’d lost everything else. Everyone else.

Qrows arms secured tightly around the blondes chest from behind, unable to ease the pain that wracked through their bodies. The pained noises from the men became harder to conceal, echoing into the now far too empty home. Qrows eyes left wet stains against the back of Taiyang’s shirt as he croaked out a final sentence through the thick emotion.

“..I’m sorry”

Hummingbird (Qrow x Summer)

God damn, if I sound disinterest in any of these ships, I am sorry. But fucking Qrow and Raven makes the already lackluster dynamic of STRQ worse, on so many levels. We already have shit with Tai and Summer, and Qrow is fucking bloating the cast up with his whiny ass. I'll get to Raven later.

Back to the ship, I just do not like Qrow at all, and Summer's latest information dump makes her so weird as an entity. Did she straight up LIED to her husband, who she knows was emotionally destroyed by the same bitch she's about to team up with? Or did she truly not know about her demise because she was overconfident in her own abilities against Salem?

And the emblem never fucking made sense, because before V9, there's nothing much that can tell us about Summer as a person or even an active force in Ruby's life aside from some "tell, not show" from Yang and Qrow. None of that alluded to the rose emblem or how it affected Ruby as person when her mother disappeared.

These two characters literally have nothing that makes me care about them as individuals, let alone fucking partners in a relationship. Not to mention, rabid Hummingbird stans are just as annoying as Bee/s when it comes to Tai. Guys, Qrow doesn't need to be Ruby's bio parent for them to have a strong bond, stop diminishing Tai's already tiny role from her life to push your ship. I cannot stand Qrow's whiny ass as it is right now, having him be an active absentee parent like his twin will make me hate him more.

Phoenix (Taiyang x Raven)

Same reasoning here for these two, with Tai as Summer and Raven as Qrow. Raven need to stay the fuck away from Tai, and this is coming from a person who eat up toxic dynamics for lunch.

Raven is just insufferable, and fans can make her more complex than canon ever can. But because we never know why she canonically abandoned her family, including her infant daughter, Raven just comes off as a shallow, selfish bitch who would hang with criminals who hit on her child than be with the people who love her despite her past.

If that was the case, FINE. Whatever, but then the show goes on to villainize Ozpin and blaming him for her reasons to leave. If Raven was scared of Ozpin, why did she team up with someone directly working for his antithesis, Salem? Then Lost Fables comes out, and it turns out Ozpin didn't even curse her and Qrow with magic, because they kept transforming willy-nilly with no consequences at all. Blame Salem for your issues if you want to avoid your responsibilities, you bitch.

And Tai...poor Tai. He's not a perfect parent, but goddamn he is the BEST when you use the likes of Jacques, Raven or even Ghira as comparisons. Yet he was villainized by the FNDM and Qrow is heralded as a good adult figure for Ruby when it was TAI who raised them for most of their lives. No one has to like Tai and his parenting can be criticize, but he is not the worse parent ever when fucking Salem is still around.

So yeah. Not my fav. Like, at all. And I deadass can make a better storyline for them as individuals and as a dynamic.

Snapdragon (Taiyang x Summer)

Oh man...again, the fucking reveal for Summer in V9 truly diminished a good majority of my enjoyment of this ship. Again, if Summer KNEW about her demise, she willingly left her husband with their children to go with someone who betrayed them both, not even thinking about how he would take losing ANOTHER person he love.

I just enjoy fanon so much more for them, because there Summer and Tai are actually treated with respect. For example, my moot @bunbunsophy made an amazing art piece of evil!Summer inspired by Makima from Chainsaw Man, and it was an amazing foundation for an AU where Summer manipulated everyone around her to her desires, especially Tai. It create this angsty goodness where he has become her toy, heartbroken but broken as well to do her biddings with no will to fight back because he loves her. This is his wife, mother of his daughters, and without her Taiyang will be alone.

Literally ANYTHING would've made this ship interesting, but canonically, they're bland as fuck.

Rosebird (Raven x Summer)

Fuck Rosebird shippers who refuse to include trans!Raven or trans!Summer into the dynamic in order to make Yang and Ruby. Do not fucking breathe near me.

Other than that; same shit as Hummingbird, but so much worse. Raven is a bitch, and it was clear in V9 that Summer cannot stand her ass. Not to mention that stupid ass panel in the DC crossover comic where bird Raven shat on Summer to Ruby. Like bitch, that is mad rich for you to judge Summer as a person WHEN YOU ABANDONED YOUR OWN CHILD. Fuck her.

Personally, I like the take where they were partners in Beacon instead of being Tai or Qrow's, because the betrayal between them will feel more personal like the boys' instead of "we were in the same team and she hurt the two men we both care about and I'm just here." I'm not saying that they can't be friends outside of partnership, but the partnership creates this unique bond that neither shares with Tai and Qrow; Summer trusted Raven to watch her back in battle, Raven grew close to her as a friends and someone she will die for, they know each other's fighting style to a detailed level and played off of each other so well that it's almost tragic when Raven left.

And when that scene in V9 happened, you feel that bitterness from Summer so much more because this was her partner who preferred something bad more than her. Maybe then I'll lean into this ship more, but right now it doesn't spark the least bit of joy.

TaiQrow/Mourning Dove (Taiyang x Qrow)

Same sentiment here; I just don't care about Qrow because he's a terrible character, and Tai barely got anything to himself.

But holy hell, going off of the partnership AU between them, the fallout between these two would've been tragically beautiful; they understand each other in ways neither Summer or Raven could, and at the end of it all they were the only ones left behind. But because of the pain left behind for them, they grow apart even though it kills them everytime they raised their voice, every time Qrow pick up another bottle after Tai begged him to stop, every time Qrow had to snap Tai out of his depression for his girls and yet Tai cannot shine as brightly as he could anymore.

All that was left was resentment, burying a layer of hope that will always yearn for the THEM of before, or at least something close enough because they still love each other.

But canon hates them and they hate us more. So you know.
