I have!!! I love the idea what we as humans keep going in cycles- that songs and music are such a part of who we are, that we can tell so many stories through song-

Apparently The Old Man, on FX is made by some of the same people that made Black Sails which I find even more fascinating. I wouldn’t say they are extremely similar but I can see some of the similarities-

Both have a central driving character who serves in some ways as both antagonist and protagonist from different perspectives. This man is capable of great violence and that violence is feared. He is also at odds with established world powers. He also has weird complicated relationships with other men and honestly with everyone. The main difference is that in The Old Man the central man is retired and forced back to confront the consequences of his previous life of violence for the system rather he is currently at odds with.

There is a younger somewhat more idealistic character though the similarities are far weaker. Also she’s a woman with a firm daughter relationship with the titular Old Man.

But what’s really interesting to me is that in the newest season we are introduced -sort of reintroduced to what they are in the modern as but also deeper than we’ve seen them before. This group is currently opposed to a number of more powerful entities and struggling to keep its independence from them thru various means.

Now of course The Old Man is a what I’d call a (post?) modern spy thriller intrigue mystery. (I don’t think it’s quite what I’d call “neonoir” but it feels close). Sadly - for me- it is far less explicitly queer but a very good show. Black Sails is a weird legal fanfic prequel to Treasure island of course, and of course quite queer.

Im sure there’s more but those are the ones that stand out to me rn.

I’m sorry but, to say that BOTW/TOTK Zelink is “the least Zelink” out of all of them, just because they’re not as in your face as they were in Skyward Sword or even Spirit Tracks, doesn’t mean it’s not there. To me, they’re the most nuanced and have the most interesting dynamic out of all of them. I like the subtlety and think it works better than something like Skyward Sword.

But that’s just me, I guess.
