so, a scenario to set up my new world building project:

say you are a human child, and you have become trapped in the fae realm. maybe you ate something after wandering in, or made a bad deal, or were the collateral on a bad deal. however it happened, you can't get out.

this seems like a bad scene, but you get lucky! you meet some adults who specialize in just this situation-- they're paid by the families of kids like you to manage a little safe haven in the fae realm. there's maybe half a dozen who come in and out, all warrior types who are extremely "genre savvy" about the fae, plus a teacher who stays with you full time.

you spend your childhood dealing with a variety of fae plots, schemes, and mean tricks. there's always something going on, and new kids get picked up from time to time. you get used to the rules of the place.

and then REGULAR HUMANS show up and start trying to straight up stab people. because they're looking for your teacher, of all people. they think he's a lost prince, or maybe his blood is magic, or some combination of the two??

you don't know for sure what's going on with all of that, but damn, someone probably should have warned these guys of how badly a manhunt in the fae realm was going to go.
