I have a lot of feelings about the Ithaca Saga. Most of them negative and about the conclusion of relationship/arc between Athena and Odysseus but I have been seeing a lot of posts in the vein of "Odysseus and Penelope reunion was so good" and I wanted to remind everyone (or let those who didn’t know know) that in the Odyssey not only does Penelope and Odysseus have a very emotional reunion that includes Odysseus completely letting go and allowing himself to break down for the first time, they also spend a long night together. And by long I mean looooonnnnnnggggg because Athena, being the biggest supporter of Odysseus and Penelope, LITERALLY held back dawn and made the night longer.

We might ship OdyPen but their greatest shipper will forever be Athena.

I am halfway through The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold, and this is such an amazing book! I am absolutely spellbound! I absolutely love the characters and the World of the Five Gods as well! Cazaril is such an interesting and unusual protagonist.

And then I go to the Internet, as I so often do when I find something I love, and am very surprised to find that there is very little fanfare to find there. I'm honestly kind of disappointed. Is the book just not that well known? What is happening?

18+ 616 Steve/Tony Discord Book Club: Avengers: Twilight (2024) #1-6

It's Avengers week for Book Club on the 616 Steve/Tony Discord! I promised everyone we'd read this as soon as the last issue hit Marvel Unlimited, and that just happened, so it's time -- we're reading Avengers: Twilight! No sparkly vampires here! This is a brand-new six-issue miniseries by Chip Zdarsky and Daniel Acuña.

Twilight is an AU set in the dystopian future of Earth-TRN1096, so even if you haven't been keeping up with current comics you can pick this up -- you don't need to know anything about canon. And you definitely want to read this, because it's the Steve/Tony event of the year. Yes, really.

In the year 2050, America has become an authoritarian surveillance state. Almost all the superheroes -- including Tony -- died in a disaster that happened decades ago. Steve is one of the few Avengers left, and he's not an Avenger anymore. They took the serum away from him a long time ago. The country's going to hell and he knows everything is wrong. But he's old, he's in no shape to fight, all his friends are dead, fascist government propaganda has ground their reputations into the dirt, and he's too depressed to care about anything anymore. As far as I can tell, he wishes he'd died with the rest of the Avengers.

(Yes, I promise there's Steve/Tony here.)

Then Steve meets the resistance. They've figured out how to replicate the super-soldier serum -- and there's only one man it was ever going to work on. Welcome back, Captain America.

And then Steve finds out Tony's still alive. The government's been keeping Tony's disembodied head in a jar on the Raft, and they've been coercing him to design armor for them. Steve has a Totally Normal amount of feelings about this.

So it's time for Steve to rescue Tony. He'll carry him out of the Raft himself!

Yes, this is a six-issue miniseries that devotes two entire issues to Steve personally rescuing Tony and bringing him back to consciousness and reconnecting with him. I mean it. This is the actual plot.

With Tony at his side, Steve can assemble a new team of Avengers, and maybe he's got the strength left to save the country one last time from the supervillain who's behind it all. (You get one guess about who wants to turn America into a fascist hellscape.)
