u know. i do think we were robbed by not having that moment in the show where tommy sees joel’s concern for ellie whilst she’s talking a minute a mile at him and suddenly gets why joel needs him to take ellie and agrees to it… just that instant understanding that not only is joel desperately trying to run from Dad Mode bcus he’s so afraid of it but also that ellie and he have already bonded so much despite joel’s outward resistance to it, despite him trying to deny it and just. knowing his big brother cannot take that pain again if anything were to happen to ellie and agreeing to risk himself instead.
