Comes off with a very Period Piece since Dorea (femHP) was raised by Old People Nobility. Amazing worldbuilding. Everything slots together beautifully, from both fandoms. Also, Dorea is a single mom for a while because of Nono's bitch ass. But she does get to meet Daniella (badass grandma with a crossbow who led the Vongola during WW2, you will adore this character, she hated almost every family decision her son made)! Beautiful communication between Dorea and Xanxus, once they realize there are cultural and personal misunderstandings.

Hey Kitty, due to your stories I've started to seek out Benny & Brax stories. So far, I've simply picked a few boxsets (Legion and New Frontiers) where I spotted the fabulous Miles Richardson on the cover. I was wondering, is there a better way to go about this? Do you have any recommendations and/or a listening order you would suggest? Thanks in advance and I hope your wrist is getting better :)

Legion is... a bit of a tricky place to start in, all things considered. It’s kind of like throwing yourself in at the deep end, because it somewhat relies on knowledge of the previous few box sets (Epoch and Road Trip) and the characters that were introduced in those. Those, in turn, follow off the end of the Collection stories, but to be honest if you just want to jump in at the box sets that’s perfectly fine - Epoch’s made to kind of be the ‘jumping-on’ point. All you have to know is that at the beginning of Epoch, the universe has been sort of ‘reset’ and Benny’s looking for her son, Peter, who was lost in the resulting chaos. The rest kind of explains itself.

Brax isn’t in Epoch or Road Trip, but Ruth is and Ruth’s a darling, and there’s some pretty good stories in both of them all things considered, so!

Two alternate points to jump into the Benny stories, since you’re looking for benny-brax dynamics:

1) The Virgin books. There’s plenty of places to find these online (since the original publishers don’t get revenue from it, it’s generally considered Okay to download them, although I’m sure you can find physical copies if you searched for a while).

Benny and Brax first meet in Theatre of War, which is part of the VNA Doctor Who books (Benny’s still Seven’s companion, Ace is also there) and also is honestly a really really great book. There’s also a Big Finish adaptation of this story if you prefer that!! it’s a bit different to the book but still a really good spin on it. This one’s pretty much standalone.

Brax’s next cameo is in Happy Endings, and it’s very very brief although rather sweet. Happy Endings is the Benny Gets Married To Jason book and it’s honestly genuinely just a lot of pointless fluff.

...and then he comes back in the Benny solo books! These are a mixed bag but Dellah!Era Benny is a lot of fun and a particular favorite of mine. All you need to know (if you skipped the rest of the VNAs) is that Benny has retired as the Doctor’s companion, got a depressing divorce with Jason (f in the chat) and is now working as a Professor of Archaeology at St Oscar’s University.

Dragon’s Wrath is where they meet for the first time - good good book! Their dynamic is peak here. 

Brax does show up in a few other books but I can’t for the life of me recall a lot of them. I’ve still got to sit down and read through all of them in order some day, there’s a coherent overarching plot and everything. Where Angels Fear is definitely one where Brax shows up, uh. someone else help. it’s so late

anyway anyway Tears of the Oracle - best book. i first read it way WAY out of context and i still loved it. they’re best friends and it makes me sob every time. ‘she’s like family’

anyway yeah, Bernice Summerfield New Adventures - find a zip file of them somewhere and read them, they’re p good! and this is the era that Sepelio is set in, in case you didn’t realize this (i know at least one person didn’t)

2) The Collection-era audios (and tie-in books). Okay, I’ll be honest, I haven’t listened to this particular era in... nearly five years. And it’s a headache to get your head around, because some of the audios are closely interlinked with the books, and the books are hell to find, and there’s some Very Iffy Content for some of the stories and. I know y’all come to me for Benny Advice a lot but my memory’s so dreadful. half the time when writing i just operate on gut instinct for canon events and rely on the fact that this fandom’s so small nobody’s going to call me out on being ridiculous. Or I can also blame it on timeline shenanigans.

can... can someone jump in and give a guide to the collection-era stories and which ones to listen to/read for Plot Purposes? I know someone with knowledge is out there. it’s honestly an amazing story arc, I just wish I had the time to lay everything out properly.

The following, however, are pretty standalone and feature Brax heavily.

The Extinction Event - first audio ft. Brax. nothing especially special but it does establish some of the basework for some of his later Questionable Stuff.

The Mirror Effect - delightfully creepy, beautifully effective characterization, benny & brax & adrien & jason trapped in a creepy haunted mirror location and trying to get out. 

The Crystal of Cantus - maybe not entirely standalone BUT how can i not put this one down. very funny and very horrifying. benny and jason and brax go on a fun field trip and find out the True Meaning Of Cybermen. benny gains a fuckton of trauma.

...and then after Crystal everything gets plotty and complicated. not that it wasn’t before, but... oh well.

There’s also some books/short story anthologies in this era that are standalone/don’t require much context. Their names all escape me. Once again, help?

BONUS: Many Happy Returns - the Benny anniversary story which is more like a framing device for a fuckton of other stories set within pretty much every era. Cameos from everyone. Delightful and heartwrenching. Really really good, but maybe get some basis in various parts of canon before you check it out. Or maybe check it out and then start jumping around to find bits that interest you? I don’t know. I went through everything in painstaking chronological order from the tender age of 14 and now here I am, writing gory cannibal fanfiction about an emotionally repressed theatre professor and his disaster archaeology best friend.

...anyway, hopefully this helps at least somewhat! It’s past midnight and i’m wracking my brains as I try to remember what bits of an extremely extensive canon I enjoyed the most. let me know if there’s anything you need clarification on, I’m aware this is a bit of a disaster post.

Philinda & Timelines

I wrote most of this in a more disorganized form a few months back, but now I’ve fleshed it out and done some more calculations. I hope it might be interesting to fans of these characters or useful for those who write fic for them. I personally like to have some dates and characterization timelines to look at when writing fics set in a “real world” type show, so I generally keep some notes for myself in word docs. Here I just kinda dove into it. 

I don’t go into plot timeline details here because I just don’t care. Marvel does an incredibly shit job of taking travel time and medical times into account. They can try and convince me something happened in two weeks, but I’m always going to ignore it. This uses info from the show itself and from an online date calculator. I am mostly not pulling from the various wikis. The wikis are great for trivia, but they are massively self-contradictory due to tie-in comics, stuff said in various interviews, etc. It’s Marvel. [Edited 03/20 to finally include workable theories for Captain Marvel]

Phil Coulson was born July 8, 1964. This makes his sun sign Cancer and his Chinese zodiac year the Dragon. He was an active and outgoing kid who wished he had a brother to play with. His dad died or was killed in 1973. Coulson was only 9 years old. They’d either finished restoring Lola together earlier that year or in 1972. It is implied in season 2 that he and his mother moved after the death, either to a different part of the town or somewhere else entirely as he did not attend the high school his father worked at. Coulson finished high school and went to college to study history, both because that was the subject his dad taught and because he was always a giant history nerd. He worked as a lifeguard as a teenager. We do not know anything about his mother’s work or their relationship when she was alive. A research project into the S.S.R. brought him to Shield’s attention. He was recruited from college by Nick Fury, an agent at the time.

Melinda May was born November 20, 1965 (a reference from the scanned back-page of a tie-in comic I cannot find again - Fury’s Secret Files from somewhere I think). Obviously, they’ve just used Ming’s birthday with a different year to parallel the actors. Her birth location is always listed as classified, so it’s possible her mother was involved with something for the CIA at the time. Her sun sign is Scorpio and her birth year in the Chinese zodiac is the snake. May always picked up new physical activities quickly according to her dad in S3. She started ice-skating at 7 and quickly began skating competitively. At 12 she switched from skating to martial arts. May has a trusting relationship with both her parents. We don’t know anything about when they seemingly separated, decided to live separately for Reasons, or got divorced. There is around a year unaccounted for between when she most likely graduated high school and when she likely joined Shield. She might have joined against her mother’s wishes. We know nothing of how she was recruited.

Star Wars Episode IV came out in May of 1977. Coulson was 12 and May was 10. This is totally relevant information.

These dates mean May is just shy of two years younger than Coulson. More precisely, Coulson is 17 months older.

We know they were at the Academy together (Comms and Ops shared some classes and electives) and graduated at the same time because of 2x4. Comms and Ops would have been in different facilities, though reasonably close together for logistics purposes. There would be a significant amount of overlap for field agent hopefulls. They probably wouldn’t have seen each other every day. They probably usually saw each other multiple times a week, depending on their classes.

They also shared classes with future Agent Blake and Agent Garrett. (It’s important to remember that Agents Hand, Hartley, Sitwell, and Hill are younger in the MCU and did not attend the Academy until the previous four Agents had already left.)

From common practices in American educational law, Coulson very likely started school (kindergarten) in the fall of 1969 (at 5). He would have graduated in 1982 and started college that fall. It is also possible he started school in 1970 (at 6) and graduated in 1983. May likely started school in 1971 at 5 and would have graduated in spring 1984 at 18 or she possibly started school at 1970 at 4 and graduated in 1983 at 17. (At the time, starting kindergarten at 4 years old was common if you would be turning 5 soon. Start ages were lower in the 70s.)

Here’s where a couple different things could have happened.

I’m going to move forward here with the (imo) more likely graduation ages for them both. These aren’t official. These events could have happened a year earlier or a year later, but anything more than that would be very unlikely.

It’s spring 1984. Coulson just finished his sophomore year of college and is about to turn 21. May just graduated high school at 18.

We know the Shield Academies at this point were legitimate in the eyes of the U.S. Government, though mostly under the radar. There was enough of a structured curriculum schedule in place we know they had a yearbook (as of season 5). Taking on recruits under 18 generally requires parental permission, as Shield is still paramilitary.

Option 1 - Coulson’s research has already drawn Shield’s attention and he is approached by Fury. Someone recruits May or she becomes aware of Shield some other way. They start at the Shield academies fall of 1984. They are 21 and 18 when they join.

Option 2 - Coulson continues through his junior year of college. His research into the S.S.R. draws Shield’s attention. Fury goes to recruit him. May spends a year doing any number of things. Her mother might want her to pursue the CIA. May picks Shield. They start at the Shield academies fall of 1985. They are 22 and 19 when they join.

Option 3 - Coulson is about to finish college when he draws the attention of Shield and is recruited by Fury. May is an unknown for two years. They start at the Shield academies fall of 1986. They are 23 and 20 when they join.

Star Trek IV (the whale movie) came out in November of 1986. Coulson was 23 and May was just 21. This is also totally relevant information.

Let’s say MCU Shield’s training program lasted 3-4 years. (Fitzsimmons strongly implied in season 1 Seeds that Scitech usually took about four years.)

The absolute earliest (3 years) May and Coulson (and Garrett) should have been in the field was 1987/1988/1989. Their most likely brand-new Level 1 Agent year was 1988/1989/1990.

Coulson and May were most likely Level 1 agents at 23 and 21/24 and 22/25 and 23.  

The Sausalito mission mentioned in episode 2x4 probably happened later in 1988/1989/1990.

John Garrett, who they were trained with, was injured in Sarajevo and became a Project Deathlok subject in 1990. He probably was only Level 2. He’d only been an agent 2-3 years maximum.

We knew from season 1 that Coulson’s mom Julie was long gone. The wiki puts her death as September 22, 1992, exactly 19 years after her husband’s death. Coulson was only 28.  

This is where I take issue with one of the semi-official dates. Big issue.

We got a flashback to a younger Agent Coulson and Agent May in season 4. May was a Level 3 specialist and Coulson was recently Level 4. We know they knew each other pretty well at that point, enjoyed each other’s company, and also frequently went weeks or months without seeing each other. They worked on missions separately and together and kept track of each other through company gossip. It’s at this point in their lives that a little, badly-kept-secret, mutual crush is going on that is ultimately not pursued for multiple reasons. They stay close friends and work partners for the next 10-15 ish years.

Parts of the wiki claims this flashback was to 2003. However, this is basically a retcon and in my oh so professional and classy-sounding opinion is just dumber than fuck. (Also, that date was never used in the episode.)

The absolute latest Coulson and May started as field agents was 1990. So *13 years* later they’re still Level 3? I don’t think so. Level 1 is your entry level. Anyone who is performing well is only going to stay there 1-3 years max. Level 2 is your no longer a noob level. If you’re doing great work let’s say people stay there 2-5 years. Agents would stay longer in Levels 3/4/5 than Levels 1 and 2.

Let’s be generous and give them 5 years at Levels 1 and 2. It could have easily been 4, maybe even 3 depending on how fast they got their groove after the whole “in the bay for five hours” thing. Coulson and May logically made it to Level 3 anywhere around 1993/1994/1995.

The Captain Marvel movie makes dubious use of existing aos canon, but if we use the perspective that Phil is a brand new Level 3 field agent instead of one fresh out of the Academy (which is completely incompatible with aos’s timeline) than we can say Phil and May were new level 3 agents sometime early in 1995. 

A sensible placement for the Russian 0-8-4 mission would be anywhere from late 1995-1997. With Phil having recently made Level 4 (strongly implied the the flashback), I would suggest 1996 or 1997 as the most likely placement. 

From the tie-in comics, MCU Agent Barton is recruited by Nick Fury around this same time, Agent Romanoff “recruited’ by him a few years later.

By 2003, both Coulson and May should have advanced a Level again and be taking on more complex missions. Strike Team Delta is part of Shield now. Fury is Director.

The Bahrain mission happened in 2008. Coulson was likely a Level 6 operative and May would be Level 5. Coulson took a lot of orders from a lot of people in episode 2x17. I highly doubt he was Level 7 at that point. The agent in charge of the operation, Agent Hart, was one of the ones Katya took over. Big Shield headquarters forbade Coulson from sending May into the building. He gave her the clear to go anyway and covered for her. May was 42. Coulson was 43 or 44.

May worked on administration for mostly Level 3s in the basement of the Triskelion for the next 4.5 years. This does not mean she became a lower ranking agent; you would likely want a higher-than-3 managing your level 3s.

Coulson is sent to make contact with Tony Stark later in 2008. At some point he advances to Level 7 then 8. Given Shield viewed the Bahrain rescue as a legendary success, not knowing how it unfolded, it is reasonable to think Coulson was promoted to 7 shortly afterwards. 

Coulson died on the Helicarrier on May 4th, 2012 during The Incident. He was 47. May was 46 when she found out he was dead.

When we met them in season 1, Coulson was recently 49 (technically…) and May was 47. May is a Level 7 agent and Coulson remains Level 8.

After season 5 they are on a beach in Tahiti. Coulson is 54 and May is 52. They’ve known each other 34/33/32 years.

Now, I’ve tried to structure this whole thing in a way that should you want to change their school-dates and use any of the three options you should be able to go through and add/subtract from the existing numbers pretty easily. So I hope that’s useful if you’ve been trying to math and write fic or if there’s just been general confusion.

I greatly prefer to write from the Option 2 set, with adjustments made for Captain Marvel. That just makes the most sense to me as far as events we know about from season one and the other life events for these characters. So if you’ve read any of my stuff, this is generally where I’m coming from.

I really hope this was useful and interesting. I spent far too much time on it.

I must say, she made a very good decision to hide and watch. It may seem meaningless, since Akira is already aware that she also infiltrated, but I doubt he would have talked so much with her present. 

It’s also good from Aoi’s perspective, since she also gets to find out some stuff and understand things a bit better.

Emma straight up admitted that the duel was a win-win situation for her the entire time xD The exchange of lines between her and Ai was quite entertaining.

I thought Kitamura was becoming serious when he said that the other employees shouldn’t see that. But he returned to being a comic relief in a second xD I liked how one of the subordinates commented on how many times is he going to fire them xD

his decision does make sense though, with him being the dedicated employee always set on results. Even if he doesn’t know what it is about, he correctly guessed that it wasn’t something the other employees should see. The fact that he still watches it in private makes him hypocrite. Now, I’m curious to see how he will react once the truth is out. From how the higher-ups described him, I guess he doesn’t care about the company’s darkest secrets as long as he is still hired.

I like how Ai expresses his dissatisfaction about being named xD Are the Ignis supposed to have names anyway? That would be something interesting to find out. It doesn’t seem like the data contains any info about him, though, which is too bad.

I find it slightly suspicious that Emma sides with Akira when he says he will reveal the incident to the public. makes me wonder what she had to gain from it. However, Yūsaku isn’t very willing to cooperate. I can’t blame him for thinking like that...

And, we finally reach the duel part. I must say, when I heard that archetype’s name was Tindangle, I didn’t know what to expect. I mean, the name sounds kinda funny. And I can’t really think of what it comes from. Certainly, I wasn’t expecting that the Monsters will have that fiendish look to them.

Emma said that Akira’s deck is tough and she was so right. Ai also pointed out that it focuses on Flip effects and, from what I see, it’s mostly defensive. Decks like that are a pain to deal with, especially if you like to play more in offense.

Here’s a bit of trivia pointed out to me by @danielkun: Tindangle Hound’s effect name is the same as Infernity Beast’s. So yeah, a callback to 5D’s.

I didn’t expect a flashback about the Zaizens past. And that’s a depressing one. The fact that their parents are at their 2nd marriage means either that their previous spouses passed away (how it doesn’t matter; it’s still sad), or they’ve been through a divorce. Both cases are horrible to deal with, in my opinion. And after they’ve overcame that and managed to move on, another tragedy strikes. Not to mention that the children didn’t have any support from their relatives. I’ve once had the chance to talk with notary by chance (who was close to my age), and I found out that when it comes to inheritance, even the closest siblings end up bickering. This theme is also present a lot in crime novels and even anime. It’s really sad that greed makes people do such horrible things, even completely abandoning two children. Another thing I’ve seen quite a lot in anime is, when a character’s parents pass away, the relatives aren’t very willing to take them in. And if they do, the characters aren’t treated very well. Not sure if this commonly happens in real life, but it’s still messed up.

But let’s talk about Akira. Once again, he shows how much he cares about his sister. I find it interesting, and sweet at the same time that she was the reason he could keep going. It’s curious, though, how he managed to find a job at SOL, a company with a very good reputation (seemingly), considering his background. I mean, he was helping yakuza break into bank accounts. I guess he kept all this well-hidden.

Whoa...This is the first time we see these two so angry. Maybe it was expected from Yūsaku, since he stated a few times he hates Hanoi. But not from Kusanagi, who is always chill and friendly. “Never judge a book by its cover” - I should remember this more often.

What’s more, I find this reaction natural. Did you ever feel that the person who is talking to you acts all-knowing about your situation, but completely misses the point, since they haven’t experienced what you have? I sure did. that’s why I understand where this anger comes from. And it’s the same thing here. Akira may know what happened, but he doesn’t get how much it affected those two, and in what way. Even though he has good intentions.

Very nice comparison here, between Akira’s two main Monsters and the Zaizen siblings. Now I understand why they named one of them Tindangle Angel, despite the design.

And it ends with Playmaker summoning Firewall Dragon. I couldn’t have chosen a better cliffhanger end xD

So, in the next episode it’s finally being revealed: the hidden past of Yūsaku, SOL Tech’s darkest secret, Hanoi’s motivation. I personally can’t wait. The preview didn’t hint too much, but I’m sure the actual episode will contain a lot of info.

Introduction: The story you are about to read is the one about Arkin and me. Yes, I know it's a strange name: he’s Norwegian. If you asked me how we met, I could not answer you. I just know that we became a couple that indefinite morning of the kindergarten’s first year and we bureaucratically haven’t break up, yet. Reality is that we were "engaged" for those three years, but with the beginning of elementary schools, my parents divorced and I had to moved with my mother in another town. I still remember the moment I told it to my two best friends. Paolo pulled on a small sad smile and raised his hand to say good-bye to me, Arkin did not even look at me, preferring to keep his eyes on the ground. Always kind and altruistic, my Paolo; always capricious and proud, my Arkin.

Elsira’s Notes: Hey everyone! I’m a little excited right now, this is the first time a traslate a multi chapter story... I truly hope it turn out at least okay xD Just wanted to tell some things, before you start to read. This story is one of mine, “original”, like is said here. At the top of every chapter there will be a cit. that means something with the chapter itself. 

There will be two kind of chapter: the one in Camilla’s POV and the one in Arkin’s POV. Every time the point of view changes, it will be separated like these ***** Camilla POV ***** / ***** Arkin POV *****. Also, flashbacks are common, especially at the beginning.

“His eyes, they use to shine so bright.”

To begin with this story, a brief introduction is needed, in which I explain how everything started. First of all: hi everyone! I’m Camilla and the story you are about to read is the one about Arkin and me.

Yes, I know it's a strange name: he is Norwegian. Or rather, half Norwegian. His mother is from Arendal and before my friend born, his parents had decided that if a male was born, the name would have been chosen by the mother, while if a female was born, the name would have been chosen by the father. A boy was born, so his mother had a free field and decided to call him like a character of her own culture who had fascinated her when she was young. I have no idea who he is, I know only that Arkin has always been proud of his name and has always raised it to the utmost of its beauty as a child.

If you asked me how we met, I could not answer you. Not ‘cause I’m mean or shy, it’s just that our first actual encounter has happened so long ago that I really cannot remember it. I only remember the first time he gave me a kiss, on the cheek, innocent and kind, like the age we had. I recall the first gift he gave me, immediately afterwards: a small heart-shaped card which inside he had drawn the two of us, while giving me the same note. It was an horrible design, even for our tender age, but he was never good at drawing.

I still own that card.

I don’t know after how much this happened since when we know each other, I only know that from that day, that indefinite morning of the first year of kindergarten, we became a couple and, to even today, we have not bureaucratically break up yet. We have been "engaged" for the duration of kindergarten, although I liked another child, the third member of our group: Paolo. We were indivisible, the three of us. Every day we played together, spent the hour of the nap next to each other, we were seated next to each other in the canteen, in the classroom and on the bus; we often spent time together after school, until dinner time. We also slept together, sometimes.

They were the best friends I could ever have wanted to have and that I've ever had.

With the beginning of elementary school, however, everything has changed: my parents divorced during the first year of school and I had to moved to my mother, in another town. Although not far away, the only occasion our group met was during the catechism time, on Saturday afternoon.

I remember I did not like the catechism at all, but there were the two of them, and that was enough for me to wake up my mother from afternoon rest and drag her out of the house to avoid losing a minute of it. I did not want to miss even a second to spend with Arkin and Paolo.

This situation lasted for few years, because in view of the first communion I had to start attending the catechism of the church of my new town.

I still remember the moment I told them. We were on the swing, swinging cheerfully when I stopped out of the blue and said that, from the following week, they would not see me there again. They were both shot dead, looking at me with their bright eyes. They had asked me if I was joking, I had answered no.

We were all three in silence, until my mother's voice had reached us. I had come down from the swing and headed to the car, turning back halfway and making a shy greeting with my hand. Paolo had pulled a small smile in response and raised his hand, Arkin had not even looked at me, preferring to keep his eyes on the ground with a grimace on his face that was supposed to hold back the tears. I was hurted, but I could not say that I expected different behaviors.

Always kind and altruistic, my Paolo; always capricious and proud, my Arkin.

I have neither seen nor heard them until one of the worst days of my life.

It was summer, more precisely on August 21, 2010, the month still most unbearably hot of my existence. It was the first year I did not spend the summer holidays to seaside and I was walking with my best middle school’s friend. We were walking down the street with our fresh Estathé, chatting cheerfully, when we decided to go to the newsstand to buy some magazines. We headed to our destination when, coming in, my eye had fallen down to the preview of newspapers outside the newsstand.

I still don’t know what was driving my eyes that moment: fate, karma, God, Santa Claus, Son Goku, Jack Frost, call it however you want to, but I was completely paralyzed at the entrance of the newsstand. I had seen the photo of a young teenage boy at the side of the page; below, the caption with his name and on the top the title I still remember as if I still had it in front of my eyes: "A thirteen-year-old boy dies while playing soccer." I felt faint and fell to my knees, as the tears were limping over my face. It was a silent crying, one of those who made you out of the rest of the world, no matter what might happen around you. Without sobbing or shaking the chest, because already too painful, so that the body is afraid of doing any movement, risking to trigger some kind of self-destructive mechanism.

My friend and the newsagent came close to me, telling me things that I could not hear. I was already in my bubble of despair. All that looked to my eyes was my friend's face and filling my mind there was just a word that I could not metabolize in any way: dead.

I went to the the funeral alone and in secret, I did not want anyone near me.

I was sneaking away from home while my brother and my mother still slept, leaving a written note that I was going to look at the rowing training of the senior, since they were the only ones to have permission to sail without the trainer. I had taken the bike and pedaling those two and a half hours distancing me from my old town, thanking God that on Sunday’s morning most people prefer to sleep rather than stay on the road.

I still remember the overwhelming church, the summer's irrespirable air, the coffin of my childhood friend in the midst of everything; the pain broke my chest, but it remained hidden. I had been on the sidelines all the time, unable to look away from the damn cash. The memories of the boy I knew had aroused my mind and rolled one behind the other at a hallucinating speed. There was nothing else at that moment.

I hadn’t even had the courage to go to his parents for condolences, sure they would not even recognize me. To this day, it’s still something that I regret.

The only glimmer of lucidity I had, happened when I saw Arkin: it’s impossible not recognize those two sapphires. He had spent two shaky words for Paolo: he who had grown up with him, he who had always been close to him, he who was present that day, he who was the one who had called the ambulance and had tried to give him a cardiac massage meanwhile, he who had accompanied him to the hospital and had waited for medical records despite everyone trying to get him home to rest. He, in spite of everything, who would always consider him his best friend.

Before returning to the bench, our eyes met for a brief moment. I remember very well the feeling of that moment: I felt just to die. I didn’t know if he recognized me, because he didn’t make a note, but it didn’t matter: I had felt bad, those blue eyes had hurt me.

Years have passed, the pain for Paolo has made it bearable with time. I did not pass it, or forgot it, I just hid it. I have never been able to overcome the deaths of the people I care about, I can only hide what I feel and then release it at the most appropriate times, like when I’m alone at night and I can cry as I want, without risking anyone hear nor see me.
