A/n: this oneshot was part of a collection I had titled Smile! wanted to post it here because I can and feel like it would be more appreciated here. Lol

"Star-gazing was a good idea," Rin said looking up at the sky. "I've never done it before."

You smiled softly seeing Rin's eyes sparkle in awe, looking up at the billions of stars in the sky. You were laying next to her on a blanket you brought for the two of you in the grass.

"Really? Well, you're in luck, babe. Your girlfriend knows everything there is to know about stars!" You exclaimed.

Rin gave you a questionable glance. "Mh-hm, yeah, I don't believe you." She said.

"What?! Come on, Rin! You're so cruel..." You whined.

Rin smiled a bit, watching you whine about how you know everything there is to know about stars and how she knows nothing.

To stop your complaining, she placed her hands on your cheeks and smiled. "Okay, I get it. I believe you." Rin said.

"About what?" You asked with a slightly teasing tone.

"You know what I mean." Rin said back.

"Do I?" You replied.

Rin sighed. "Yes, yes you do!" She exclaimed.

"Then say it!" You smirked.

"Ugh, you such a pain in my ass." Rin grumbled out.

"Yes, but I'm your pain in the ass." You said back, hugging her waist. "And you love me."

Rin blushed. "Mh-hm, yeah... I-I do." She said.

"Anyway, let's see what consultation are in the sky today. I mean the consultation that are in the sky change over the months and seasons of the Earth or where you are on Earth that why you don't see the same consultations in the sky..." You trailed over feeling eyes on you.

Rin looked at with shimmer of awe in her eyes, she seemed to really enjoy what you were telling her.

"You really do know this type of stuff." Rin said.

"Of course. I mean, I want to be an astrosmist when I graduate or maybe just a simple science teacher. But, to be honest wherever my skills take me. I hope I still have you by my side, Rin." You said to her, grabbing her hand.

Rin blushed, looking away from you and looking down at the ground. "Of course... I wanna remain by your side too." Rin said.

You smiled at Rin, pulling her into a hug. "Then let's do it!" You exclaimed.

Rin's eyes widened and nodded her head. Then, you pulled Rin in for a kiss.

Rin feelings for Kagura and their bond as foster siblings

Rin and Kagura's foster sibling relationship may be rocky but its clear they both care about eachother. Siblings don't always get along. Sometimes being close to someone involves petty arguments and cruel remarks (like rin telling kagura her love is fake). A lot of siblings aren't exactly super close and loving, sometimes there's animosity, but still a sense of loyalty for those you're stuck with. Rin didn't get that from her own family, and she didnt choose kagura's, but kagura and her mother are loyal to her. That's what it's about at its core. But more importantly, a lot of subtlety was lost in the anime.

It's important to realize that most of the early stuff we saw of Rin was her at her worst. She was pushing everyone away. Haru, Hiro, kagura. She was trying to push them away to protect them while she risked her life to free Haru from the curse.

Takaya sensei has also said that Rin got into fashion partially as a result of living with Kagura (and that haru made her acessories lol). And speaking of fashion, we see Rin's sense of fashion change of her arc is resolved. She goes from wearing a lot of tight clothes. To wearing more loose fitting items. This change helps illustrate her personality softening and her no longer feeling the need the need to be held tightly. It shows her being more comfortable and relaxed

There were great moments that show Rin and Kagura's character development that were left out of the anime. Like how rin snapped at kagura for hitting tohru and how kagura apologized and comforted her with a hug. And then later when kagura is whining, she asks rin to comfort her, rin calls her annoying but her expression is softer, and she doesn't try to remove kagura from her shoulder. Sensei's (kyo's dad's) assistant even comments on how they've gotten much closer recently.

Rin is just a hit of a tsundere. We see it in her interactions with tohru and haru as well. She gets embarrassed and gets a little obstinant about hiding her true feelings.

This is why moments like these are important and the anime butchering the finale season is such a tragedy. We get the core character arcs but we don't really get to see how the characters change. It's why the manga is a well written masterpiece and the anime falls short. Too many stories tell and don't show. Fruits basket shows how the characters change, even characters who didn't get much attention like Ritsu.

Bonus

I primarily focused on Rin in thus analysis because I saw someone saying they believe Rin doesn't like Kagura, but there are multiple clear moments of affection on Kagura's side and I'd like to briefly mention a few.

Like kagura going to visit Rin and stay with her instead of attending the barbecue at Shigure's or her concern about Rin being missing, and wondering if she was really in the hospital, as well as picking up her diploma for her graduation.

Before the show began, Isuzu also called Rin was considered a gentle, happy and extroverted person. However, as a result of many abuses and abandonment on the part of her parents, her self-esteem and trust in people were severely destroyed. Soon after, her personality underwent a radical change, to the point where she became an aggressive, emotionally distant, blasé and mean woman. She does not hesitate to say words that hurt people. She prefers to depend only on herself as for example her determination to find a way to break the curse. She is deeply loyal and passionately emotional and extremely sacrificial and selfless.

Things that make me happy in fiction: when someone tell another person who was abused that's it's okay for them not forgive the abuser.

On that subject, forever bitter that they gave Tohru's talk with Rin in the end of the anime to Haru and Momiji.

**Fruits basket (2019) ending spoilers!!**

I iwas. i was nOT prepared for the ending of fruits basket. The speech Tohru's mom gives in the death flashback?? about living and growing old?? the fact Kyo watched her die??? oh my god Akitos arc?? she was so lonely that whole time?? every single character in that goddamn show has. so much. trauma. send them ALL to therapy PLEASE. I kin Isuzu which is. honestly worrying. and specifically in that scene where she finally accepts Tohru's help and just??? sobs on her????? wow. WOW. AND MOMIJI!!! I honestly wasnt prepared for him to grow up so much in s3 like physically and mentally that poor lil bunny :(( there was a serious lack of Uo-chan and Hanajima in s3 tho ngl bc i absolutely adore those two bitches (Uotani reminds me a lot of Beidou from GI i think bc of the hair, voice, and bad bih attitude so my sapphic ass dEFINITELY has a type oops)

anyway im so glad that everyone got their happy endings but. ngl that show has forever changed me and i will forever love it and ill miss that ill never get to watch it for the first time again. everyone in it grew so much, helped eachother, forgave people, it even addresses when Isuzu doesnt want to forgive Akito when most of the other Sohmas do (understandably, Akito damaged her SO much)
