Daily Devotionals for August 16, 2024
Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 22:28 (KJV): 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. Proverbs 22:28 (AMP): 28 Remove not the ancient landmark which your fathers have set.
Thought for the Day
This verse has both natural and spiritual implications. Landmarks in ancient Israel marked property boundaries. A stone, a stake, or other monument was used to establish and prevent infringement of property rights. A wicked person would remove a landmark, either out of coveting someone else's property or to mislead people in order to attack them. In Western cultures, a landmark has come to mean primarily some conspicuous object or building that serves as a guide to travelers. Therefore, this verse is telling us to respect the property rights of others, as well as the hereditary rights that our fathers have set up in the past. Neither should we tear down a marker that is used for guidance. This causes confusion and can cause people to lose their way. For instance, when I go back to my old home town, they have changed the streets and torn down old buildings. I cannot find my way around and must get a new map or ask a local person for directions. This does not mean we should not change things for the better - but with change we need to consider those who look for the old landmarks, and identify the old streets by leaving or referencing the old names.
Young Christians should respect their elders' boundaries. There are reasons for the boundaries, and the younger generation would be wise to honor them. This is actually part of obeying the commandment to honor our parents (Exodus 20:12). Young people, in their desire for independence, will often disregard their elders' advice, sometimes to their own detriment. Satan is trying to rid our nation of the ancient moral landmarks that our founding forefathers set in place, especially the Ten Commandments. He knows that without these standards in the earth, he will be able to destroy society. Without respect for authority, our world will be reduced to chaos.
The same can also apply to teachings. Some of the so-called "new" teachings in the Church are really not new at all, but old erroneous ones. They are "winds of doctrine" that toss people to and fro. The Lord gave the church apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to help us walk in the right way, that we may mature in Christ. It is wisdom to listen to our godly church elders. "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-14).
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the elders in my family, and also the church elders before me, who have paved the way for my life to be blessed. Even though I qualify for this office myself, may I always be childlike and humble in realizing that without my elders, I would not be one today. May I always honor and appreciate them. Help me to respect the young people in my life and not discard their ideas, but be able to embrace those ideas that come from You, not allowing pride to prevent me from recognizing the things You are giving them. Lord, may You restore the hearts of the fathers to the children in our day. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen From: Steven P. 25th December - ‘A Saviour has been born to you’, Reflection on today’s gospel reading (Lk 2:1-14)
Christmas Mass
I am always struck by how well children act out the Christmas story. They love to play the various characters in the Christmas pageant, especially the plum parts of Mary and Joseph. They love to dress up as angels or shepherds or the three kings. Sometimes, one of them plays the role of the guiding star. I also love how children respond to the crib. When they visit it, their eye travels around all the various characters, including the animals. They immediately recognize that the central character in the crib is the child Jesus. Children can help us to wonder at the deeper mystery of Christmas, which can easily get lost amid all the comings and goings of this time of year. At the heart of this feast is the emergence of new life, the birth of a child to a young couple who lived in a small village in Galilee.
There is something wonderful about the birth of every child. Every new born child evokes in us a sense of wonder and delight. We feel very protective of this frail bundle of life; we sense its vulnerability, its need for care and protection. In one sense, the birth of a son to Mary and Joseph was no different to the birth of any other child at that time. The birth of this child happened in circumstances that was far from the clinical environment that would be considered desirable for giving birth today. Mary and Joseph found refuge in a place associated with animals because the local hostelry was full up. Mary placed her child in a manger, a feeding trough for animals. It could be said that the situation left a lot to be desired. Yet, this new born child was more wonderful than any other new born child before or since. This was the message given by the angel to the shepherds as they watched over their flocks at night in the hills outside Bethlehem, ‘A saviour has been born to you; he is Christ, the Lord’. This new born child was God’s special messenger whose coming the prophets of Israel had foretold and for whom people had been waiting for centuries.
I have always been struck by that phrase ‘to you’ in the angel’s message to the shepherds. At one level, it means ‘to you shepherds, watching your flocks’. At a deeper level, it means ‘to you, whoever you are, wherever you are, however you are’. The child of Mary and Joseph was born to each one of us. This child is God’s gift to each of us. Tonight we celebrate the good news that God so loved the world – so loved each one of us – that he sent his only Son to us. The birth of any child touches the lives of so many people, not just at the moment of birth but for many years well into the future. The birth of Mary and Joseph’s child has touched all of our lives, ‘the whole human race’ in the words of Saint Paul. That is why there is a place for all of us at the crib; we all belong there. The writer, C. K. Chesterton, expressed it well in his poem, ‘The House of Christmas’, ‘Only where He was homeless, Are you and I at home’. We are all invited to kneel in the straw, alongside the shepherds and, later, the wise men. God is calling out to us through this child, inviting us to come close to this child, because in doing so we are coming close to God. We are to approach God as we would a new born child, with a sense of wonder and delight. The principal name of this child is ‘Jesus’, but one of his other names in the gospels is ‘Emmanuel’, a name which means, ‘God-with-us’. Through this child, God was entering our world, our own personal lives, becoming flesh, in a way that had never happened before, calling us home. There is a wonderful tradition of people coming home for Christmas. Perhaps the desire for home we experience at this time of the year reflects in some way our appreciation that Christmas celebrates God making a home among us through the child of Mary and Joseph, so that we can be at home with God.
The child who was born for you, for me, became the adult who lived for you, who died for you, who rose from the dead for you and who poured forth the gift of the Holy Spirit for you. The birth of Jesus reveals God to be God for us, and as Saint Paul says in his letter to the Romans, ‘If God is for us, who can be against us?’ We all have a sense of how much is against us, perhaps more so this Christmas than other Christmases. The War in Ukraine has not only brutalized a whole nation, but has borne down upon all of us. The rise in inflation, in fuel prices, in the general rising cost of living, is driving many people to the edge. The number of people who are homeless remains disturbingly high. There is much darkness in our world. Yet, this Christmas we celebrate the good news that the light that shone on the shepherds in the darkness of their night-watch continues to shine on each one of us, whoever we are, wherever we are, however we are. It is the light of God’s unconditional love, and if we open our lives to that light we ourselves, each one of us, can become God’s light in our sometimes dark work.

Trekking and Adventure Activities: Many packages include guided treks, like the Kheerganga trek or shorter nature walks around Kasol. You can also indulge in adventure activities like camping, river rafting, and paragliding, depending on the package.
Meals: Most packages include breakfast, and some may offer additional meals or packed lunches during treks. For budget packages, dining at local cafes in Kasol is a great way to experience the local Israeli and Himachali cuisine.
Best Time to Visit Kasol
The best time to visit Kasol largely depends on what kind of experience you're looking for:
Summer (March to June): Perfect for trekking, camping, and exploring the outdoors. The weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear.
Monsoon (July to September): While the valley looks lush and green, heavy rains can make trekking difficult and pose a risk of landslides.
Winter (October to February): If you love snow and want to experience Kasol in a magical winter setting, this is the best time to visit. However, be prepared for cold temperatures and check for road accessibility.
Final Thoughts
Kasol is a hidden gem in the Himalayas that offers a perfect blend of nature, adventure, and culture. By opting for one of the many Kasol packages from Delhi, you can enjoy a hassle-free and memorable journey. Faithful Journeys: How Interfaith Travel Opens Minds and Hearts
Traveling to experience the spiritual practices and beliefs of different cultures is an adventure that transcends typical tourism. Interfaith travel offers a unique opportunity to explore the world with a purpose: to learn, connect, and grow in understanding. These journeys have the power to transform not only how we view others but also how we understand our own beliefs and values.
Discovering the Beauty of Spiritual Diversity
One of the most striking elements of interfaith travel is the opportunity to witness the rich tapestry of religious diversity. Whether you’re exploring the vibrant rituals of a Hindu temple in India or observing the solemn prayers in a mosque in Egypt, each encounter reveals the profound impact of faith on culture and community. Experiencing these moments firsthand offers insights that no book or documentary can truly capture. It allows you to see religion as a living, breathing part of daily life, full of meaning and purpose.
These experiences often highlight the similarities among different faiths. Core principles like kindness, respect for others, and a desire for peace are present in nearly every religious tradition. Recognizing this common ground can be a decisive moment of unity, breaking down preconceived notions and replacing them with a sense of shared humanity. The realization that, at their core, most religions promote universal values creates a more compassionate and connected worldview.
Engaging in Heartfelt Conversations
Interfaith travel provides countless opportunities for meaningful conversations with people of various beliefs. Sitting down with locals to discuss spirituality can lead to enlightening and sometimes unexpected insights. These dialogues may take place in a cozy family home in Jerusalem, over a meal shared with Buddhist monks in a mountain monastery, or during a guided tour of a historic church in Spain. Each conversation adds a layer of understanding, breaking through cultural barriers and misconceptions.
It is crucial to approach these interactions with genuine curiosity and respect. Listening actively and asking thoughtful questions fosters an environment where open and honest dialogue can flourish. Even when differences in belief are profound, respectful discussions can lead to mutual appreciation. The stories and perspectives shared in these moments are often what travelers remember most, as they offer a more profound sense of connection that transcends religious differences.
Experiencing Sacred Traditions and Spaces
There is something truly awe-inspiring about visiting a place that holds deep spiritual significance. Whether it’s standing before the awe-inspiring architecture of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul or feeling the serene atmosphere of a Japanese Zen garden, sacred spaces evoke a sense of wonder. Participating in or observing religious ceremonies can be equally moving. Witnessing a traditional Shabbat meal in Israel or joining a vibrant Diwali celebration in India can provide profound insight into the devotion and sense of community that faith fosters.
These experiences also allow travelers to understand the importance of ritual in people’s lives. They offer a glimpse into how faith brings communities together, provides comfort in times of hardship, and inspires acts of service and love. Being a part of these sacred traditions, even briefly, deepens the travel experience and creates a sense of shared humanity that lingers long after the journey ends.
Overcoming Cultural Challenges
While interfaith travel is enriching, it’s not without its challenges. Cultural misunderstandings can occur, especially when you’re unfamiliar with the traditions and norms of the community you’re visiting. A lack of knowledge about appropriate dress or behavior in sacred spaces can unintentionally offend. To minimize these risks, it’s essential to do your research and show genuine respect for the customs of the people you’re visiting. Being mindful of local practices and showing humility when mistakes are made can go a long way in fostering positive interactions.
Sometimes, the most significant challenges come from within. Confronting beliefs or practices that differ significantly from your own can be uncomfortable or even unsettling. However, this discomfort can lead to personal growth. By reflecting on your reactions and seeking to understand the reasoning behind different traditions, you can gain a deeper awareness of your values and the complexity of the spiritual landscape.
Building Lasting Bridges
One of the most beautiful outcomes of interfaith travel is the relationships formed along the way. The connections you make—whether with fellow travelers, religious leaders, or local families—can last a lifetime. These friendships serve as reminders that, despite our differences, we all seek meaning, connection, and belonging. Many travelers return home inspired to promote interfaith dialogue, sharing stories and experiences that encourage others to embrace cultural and religious diversity.
These connections also demonstrate the importance of building bridges between communities. In a world often divided by religious differences, interfaith travel shows that understanding and friendship are not only possible but essential. Travelers become ambassadors for peace, carrying the message that coexistence and respect are achievable through dialogue and a willingness to learn from one another.
Personal Growth and Reflection
The impact of interfaith travel extends far beyond the trip itself. It invites travelers to reflect on their own beliefs and spirituality, sometimes deepening their faith or sparking a desire to learn more about other traditions. The experience often leads to greater self-awareness and a better understanding of how spiritual practices shape individuals and communities. For many, it’s a journey of self-discovery that continues to evolve long after they return home.
Moreover, the lessons learned from interfaith travel influence how travelers engage with the world. They are more likely to approach others with empathy and an open mind, valuing dialogue over division. The memories of shared meals, spiritual ceremonies, and heartfelt conversations remain vivid, serving as constant reminders of the beauty of cultural and religious diversity.

Passover Programs 2025: The Ultimate Guide for a Memorable Holiday
Tumblr media
Are you planning to celebrate Passover 2025 in a unique way? Maybe you're tired of the same routine and are looking for an unforgettable experience that blends tradition with luxury. Well, you’re in the right place! Whether you want to stay local in the United States or venture out internationally, Passover programs offer a fresh take on this sacred holiday, blending relaxation, exploration, and, of course, the traditions that make Passover so meaningful.
In this guide, we’ll dive into everything you need to know about Passover 2025 programs—what they are, why they’re so popular, and how to find the right one for you and your family.
What Exactly Are Passover Programs?
Before diving in, let’s break down what Passover programs are. For those who are unfamiliar, these programs are all-inclusive vacation packages designed specifically for Passover. They typically offer:
Kosher for Passover meals—including lavish Seders and all the traditional dishes, without any chametz.
Daily prayer services and access to a Seder led by renowned rabbis or community leaders.
Fun activities for the entire family—ranging from tours to sports, entertainment, and kids' camps.
Beautiful resort accommodations, often in exotic destinations.
It’s essentially a vacation combined with a religious retreat, ensuring you can observe Passover with all the comfort and luxury you crave.
Why Are Passover Programs So Popular?
You might wonder: why have these programs become such a big deal? Is it just about getting away, or is there something more? The answer is a bit of both.
1. Stress-Free Holiday
Think about how much effort goes into preparing for Passover. From the cooking, cleaning, and setting up the Seder, it's no small task! Passover programs offer a break from that. Instead of spending days in the kitchen or scrubbing your home from top to bottom, you can enjoy a fully catered experience.
Imagine arriving at a five-star resort, knowing that everything has been meticulously prepared for you—all you have to do is show up and enjoy!
2. Quality Time with Family
How often do we actually have time to slow down and connect with our loved ones? At a Passover program, you can do just that. Whether you're relaxing by the pool or participating in activities together, it’s a chance to bond with your family in ways that day-to-day life just doesn’t allow.
3. Diverse Destinations
Passover 2025 is expected to feature programs in some of the world’s most breathtaking locations—from beachfront resorts in the Caribbean to luxury hotels in Europe. Want to explore the historic cities of Israel? Or perhaps you’re more of a tropical beach type? Whatever your preference, there’s a Passover program that fits your dream destination.
Choosing the Right Passover Program for 2025
Now that you’re sold on the idea of a Passover program, how do you choose the right one for your family? Here are some key things to consider:
1. Location
Do you want to stay within the United States, or are you itching to travel abroad? U.S. programs often offer familiar comforts and eliminate the need for long flights, while international destinations provide the opportunity to explore new cultures.
Some popular locations for Passover 2025 include:
Miami, Florida – Think sunny beaches and lively Jewish communities.
CancĂșn, Mexico – A tropical paradise that combines luxury with rich cultural experiences.
Rome, Italy – Explore ancient history while observing Passover traditions.
Jerusalem, Israel – What could be more meaningful than celebrating in the Holy Land?
2. Budget
Passover programs range from ultra-luxurious to more budget-friendly. Determine what you’re willing to spend and make sure to account for travel costs, especially if you're choosing a far-off destination.
3. Program Offerings
Not all Passover programs are created equal. Some focus more on family activities, while others may cater to adults or couples looking for a peaceful getaway. Be sure to check:
Are there kids' clubs or activities for younger family members?
What type of entertainment or speakers will be part of the program?
Are there any excursions or tours included?
4. Kosher Supervision
Ensuring that the food adheres to strict Kosher for Passover standards is a top priority. Make sure the program you're considering has reliable supervision that aligns with your level of observance.
The Best Passover Programs to Look Out for in 2025
Curious about where to go for Passover 2025? Here's a sneak peek at some of the most popular programs that you might want to consider:
1. Leisure Time Tours – Italy
Location: Rome, Italy Highlights: Combining the spiritual experience of Passover with the historical wonders of Rome, this program offers a Seder in the Eternal City and tours of famous landmarks. It’s perfect for those who want to blend tradition with history.
2. Kosherica – Miami Beach
Location: Miami, Florida Highlights: A favorite for American travelers, this program boasts luxury beachfront resorts and top-notch Kosher cuisine. It’s a great choice for those looking for a stress-free but luxurious escape without venturing too far from home.
3. Pesach in the Alps – Switzerland
Location: Crans-Montana, Switzerland Highlights: If you love skiing or mountain views, this is the Passover program for you. Nestled in the Swiss Alps, it offers a mix of spiritual enrichment, breathtaking scenery, and outdoor activities.
Preparing for Your Passover Program Experience
So, you've picked your destination. What next? Here’s how to make sure your Passover 2025 experience goes off without a hitch.
1. Book Early
Passover programs are incredibly popular, and the best spots tend to fill up fast. If you’ve got your eye on a particular destination, don’t wait until the last minute to book.
2. Pack Accordingly
Keep in mind that while you’ll be at a resort, you’ll still want to bring appropriate attire for religious services. Many programs have formal dinners or Seders, so pack a mix of casual and dressy clothing.
3. Stay Informed
Make sure to check what’s included in your package. Are tours extra? What about transportation? Knowing the details can help you avoid any surprises later on.
Final Thoughts: Make Passover 2025 Unforgettable
Passover is a time for reflection, family, and spiritual growth, but it doesn’t have to be stressful or monotonous. Passover programs allow you to celebrate in style while making lasting memories with the people you care about most.
Whether you're drawn to a local getaway or a far-flung adventure, there’s a program out there that can cater to your needs. So why not break free from tradition this year and make Passover 2025 one for the books? After all, when was the last time you celebrated a Seder while overlooking the Swiss Alps or sunbathing on a beach in the Caribbean?
Passover is about liberation—and what better way to honor that than by liberating yourself from the ordinary?

Note
While the gun part is definitely weird, given the history of Poland and Israel, and the fact that Poland is not exactly friendly to Jews, I’m not surprised they’d have guards of some kind for trips.
While i cannot speak of history between Poland and Israel, Ashkenazi jewish people had around thousand years of good history with Poland before WW2. It wasn't a perfect history of course, however it was still very priviledged for a place where Jewish People resided though, so in a way i'm surprised Poland might be looked that badly upon (in Israeli eyes at least, since the initial topic of armed guards. The armed guards really make it sound like a scary place).
I thought they'd be probably interested in fostering some of a friendly relationship to help both nations understand each other due said thousand year of history, but that doesn't sound like it? And well, maybe i'm just that romantic as a person and normal people don't think of things like that. (I do not mean to diminish the bad of course. I'm simply romantic)
And i might not be really able to speak about that country's friendliness to jewish people, but i also am not sure if bringing guards for school trips sound that logical either. Though again, i know nothing of the amounts of assaults these trips must live through in Poland.
What i do know however is that, even when it comes to countries that are deemed "dangerous to travel", as long as the traveler abides by the rules surrounding the country, they'll end up having a great time in full safety.
A good local guide will help a lot. If it's a place where guards are very needed, mafia or local governing organisation upon payment(?) provides security during the travel. They are local so they know which places to avoid, which places are a must-see, and help to not get in trouble.
If it's a place that's simply deemed dangerous, then it goes by general tip of "go in groups and not alone", as strangers with bad intentions aren't likely to physically assault people in groups. A guard sounds like a waste of money in that case.
Taking big burly guard on a trip of some normal casual people sounds also like A Lot because, gods, personal guards are a bit like cops to me personally. Not in a "evil!" way or whatever, but in a "they make things nervous" way, at least if they aren't super friendly to everyone in proximity. Try to have a nice little chat with a local while your guard looks around and at them suspiciously. Yikess??
Lastly, but not leastly, whenever a country is called "dangerous" or "not friendly" in a way or another, we should really remember that, people just live there. Various people, with various ideologies, and with various ethnicities, skintones, etc. They will all just live there.
People will live in some real hellholes and some of them will be like "Yeah it is a racist/xenophobic country. Some people were rude to me a few times, though at least i never got physically attacked despite living here a few years"; Someone else will be like "Yeah and i even got attacked because of it!"; And someone else will say "Got physically attacked but actually i was walking down a bad area so i could've seen that."; Another one will be like "I always walk down bad areas and it's fine lol."; And yet another person will say "ehh i don't know. Most of people are cool and some of them are annoying. Day like another, place like any other." And none of these experiences will be invalid. However they will all show a scope of "In the end, it is just yet another country and humans happen to live in it." Which i think helps to get through the fear of uknown when a visited country has bad reputation. Because honestly, even if it does have a bad reputation being a tourist in it doesn't mean having to live through constant hell.
