Introducing encanto popstar au !!!

Meet Isabela Madrigal!

Isabela is eldest of the group! In her normal life she’s a college student majoring in earth science! Top of her class and well spoken. Secretly Isabela and the other madrigal granddaughters are world famous popstars! Isabela likes to consider herself someone who’s in control, she’ll spend hours trying to perfect one single move for a routine but gets easily frustrated. She butts heads with dolores a lot (the actual leader) and sometimes is trapped in her own head. Isabela hates being late and hates hanging around out of fear of being recognised! she often has to drag her youngest sister away from the crowds! Isabela is known for her incredible high notes and harmonies with luisa as well as her incredible electric guitar solos! Isabela is not afraid to be bold with her bright teal hair streaks which she only has when she’s not around her family! Isabela is the most confident of the girls and often the one who deals with the media and paparazzi! Her weakness is she’s not the best dancer and it takes her 5 times longer to master a dance than her sister luisa who’s the main dancer of the group!

This au is inspired by me listening to old 2000s music and seeing some cool outfits on Pinterest! Fellow 2000s kids you already know what was up with girl groups🙏 think spice girls, pussy cat dolls etc! The timeline of this au is early 2010s (early days of social media) with a 2000s aesthetic !! I wanted to do an encanto modern au but I feel like a lot of concepts have already been done so I opted for self indulgent madrigal girls secretly popstars Hannah Montana style!!

Something I Think About Often Regarding Isabela Madrigal

The movie really didn't do her character that much justice... kind of riding her off to be this aggressive sister without explaining why but then chalking it up to "having to be perfect", giving her a song (even though I adored her transformation), and then all was solved with a hug.

They don't go in depth like they do with Luisa before and during Surface Pressure.

They don't mention how truly miserable Isabela must have been, how suffocating that pressure of perfection truly was. Isabela, like the rest of the Madrigals never really had a childhood. She was never able to just breathe and be a human being instead of this plastic, "picture perfect" shell she was forced into.

She didn't have her own life, her own autonomy, and was paralyzed by the fear of disappointing the family, of being shunned. She had to craft this image that was nothing but a lie. Everything was a façade she had to put on for years and it most likely drained the life out of her.

No wonder she was so bitter and angry, sadly Mirabel was the easiest target for this projection of resentment (Not excusing it, just making an observation.)

And when she is finally able to express her true self, Alma indirectly scolds her for it. (Yes, it is mainly geared towards Mirabel. But, she literally said that Isabela was "out of control".)

Isabela's whole life was controlled by others so for Alma to say she was out of said control must have really hurt her. Hell, in that scene she looks like a scared little girl.

Overall, I wish the movie delved deeper into this. But hey, the fandom is doing it for them so it's all good ^-^

“Just because she’s independent and single doesn’t mean she’s a lesbian, you’re being stereotypical” shut the fuck up shut the fuck up SHUT THE FUCK UP.

As if every single female character doesn’t already have to be attracted to men and center men in their attraction. And now the second we headcanon a female character who doesn’t have a romantic relationship with men as a lesbian suddenly we’re the bad guys?

Lesbians get no representation ever but oh I get it, female characters are allowed to be strong and independent and not need a guy to be fulfilled and all of that crap you spew in the name of feminism, so long as they’re still attracted to guys that is.

God forbid a female character is actually independent from and fully de-centers men by not being attracted to them at all. God forbid lesbians have an ACTUAL CHARACTER to see themselves in to remind us that we are not “incomplete” for not liking men. But y’all don’t care about that, I already know. It’s not forcing independent girls to be lesbians and it’s not “stereotyping��� you guys just see lesbian as a dirty word, and you see us as perverted, gross, forceful, man-haters, or less than women because your identity is wrapped up in liking men and you center them at every turn, straight women will always complain about female characters being lesbians with “why can’t she just be independent” meanwhile y’all exclude us from conversations with your endless jabber about boyfriends and crushes, lol fucking jokes.

The truth is lesbians are the embodiment of what womanhood looks like without the centering of men and that threatens y’all somehow, so the second a female character is seen as a lesbian you come out with the pitchforks screaming “nuh-uh, she’s STRAIGHT!” It’s not the “independence” that is the problem, you’re just mad and offended by female characters not being available to men or depending on them to find love and be happy, that’s the real problem that you pretend is the opposite.

And don’t pretend that you treat canonical lesbians any better either, because when we do get them you erase their sexuality by calling them straight or bi and writing fics about them being shipped with male characters they have no chemistry with(because they’re lesbians), or making them aroace(because if they can’t be into men then you’ll make sure they’re not into women either), you don’t give a shit fuck about independent women and even less of one about lesbians, you just see a woman not being attracted to men as not fulfilling their proper role as women because you still define womanhood as revolving around men even when they are “independent” and thus you need to “punish” them somehow.

So, disrespectfully, fuck off, and don’t come after us lesbians with our headcanons about characters as lesbians with “but but but can’t she be strong and independent without being a lesbian?! Can’t she still be straight!!! I can respect her not getting with a man but I still need her to like guys please!!!” Because you WILL get embarrassed and you WILL get your feelings hurt.

Isabela must thought so many times about how most of her friends/admirers were only friends with her because of her image, her family name, her gift, her perfection. They weren’t Isabela’s friends. Not really. They were friends with the idea of Isabela Madrigal, the concept, the image, the status. A lot of times she was right. People praised her flowers, praised her, sang about how beautiful and kind and perfect she was. She listened, all the while knowing everything worth singing about her was a lie, and nothing more.

Dolores must have heard her friends talking about how they only wanted to be friends with her so that they could get close to Isabela. She heard Mariano making poetry for Isabela, maybe even try to buy flowers for Isabela. The bouquet he handed to Isabela—the golden child threw it away. Dolores picked it up after Isabela left and pretended it was for her instead.

Flower Family

Bruno’s gift of controlling plants was seen as a blessing

He would use his power to instantly grow crops for the village

He and Julieta were golden children while Pepa was a scapegoat

Bruno became his sister’s protector and they were very close though a part of her did resent him and Julieta

Bruno when he was younger had tried to branch out and experiment with his gift but was always brushed off or scolded for it

He didn’t stop his experiments though he just kept them confined to his room the one place he felt he could be himself

Eventually he created a plant turtle he named twig

One day Alma decided that her children needed to start seeing some of their suitors and introduced Pepa to Felix Algeria surprisingly they got on well

It’s also how Bruno met Ozma the illegitimate child of Felix’s father they kept their meeting’s secret

Julieta on the other hand started courting, a boy, their mother disapproved of greatly

She stood her ground on this to her siblings, surprise Julieta never fought their mother on anything

Ozma and Bruno grew close Bruno even showing her his garden and mouse village

Three years passed Bruno and Ozma continued their secret relationship his sisters got married and his mother pestered him to do the same

Eventually this all blew up with Ozma becoming pregnant and Alma trying to arrange a marriage for her son

After an enormous fight where Bruno destroyed the entire town square with his plants he and Ozma eloped taking only Twig a few changes of clothes and some food

They climb the mountain and discover that beyond that is a second ring of mountains with a canyon between them Bruno grows a forest at the bottom of the canyon and grows a treehouse for them and the baby to live in

This attracts people that we’re living in the mountains but not in the Encanto

Soon Ozma gave birth to a beautiful little girl they named Isabela

She was a wild and rambunctious girl and the couple adored her with all their hearts

They were all taken by surprise when the day after Isabelas fifth birthday she woke them to show a cactus she’d grown

they hadn’t thought she’d get magic without casita but were thrilled

Bruno taught her all he could about her power and they experimented and learned new things together

Isabela used her flowers to create paints and use them to decorate the trees with her mother

She even created her own animal plant companion a griffin she named Rose

Life was good and the family was content

and then when Isabela was 16 they had a surprise baby they named Antonio

Life picked up after that their little forest village got a lot of refugees fleeing from the violence

Isabela was looking for a boyfriend wanting to have what her parents had with each other with someone else

But try as she might she never felt that spark with anyone

Soon Antonio also received control over plants and joined his father and sister in the garden

He went out there with animal companions creating a cat he named Parce that kept growing bigger and igger

None of them had thought of the Encanto in years with Antonio thinking it was just a made up bedtime story

That is until Bruno’s Niece Mirabel showed up begging Bruno to return and cure the towns famin
