Hey, just wanted to ask for any recs on Latino historical literature in Spanish? Mainly looking for Puerto Rican outside of the broad history you know? I find good things in English but I want the lens in Spanish. Or if you have a tag of anything you've read I can go through? Thanks In advance!
hello! you are in luck because right now I'm back home in PA where I have access to my giant latin american literature anthology! I'm going to give some authors below who are from PR with a piece of writing of theirs to check out, and also give some authors who I enjoy who aren't from PR. Not all of these are "historical" literature, but many write poems and short stories based off real life events/lived experience, which I find just as informative as a book like Open Veins of Latin America, which is very non-fiction historical.
KEEP IN MIND: some of these authors use language that is 1, outdated and 2, offensive, but these words are justified in the context they are written in and speak upon racial tensions experienced at the time of writing (i.e, one of Martin Espada's poems is called "n word-lips"). Please be compassionate toward the authors listed here!
PR authors:
Ramon Emeterio Betances (Arriba, Puerto Ricans!; 1800s), Eugenia Maria de Hostos (League of Puerto Rican Patriots; 1800s), Lola Rodriguez de Tio (The Song of Borinquen; late 1800s), William Carlos Williams (Libertad! Igualdad! Fraternidad!; late 1800s), Jesus Colon (Grandma, Please Don't Come!;1900s), Jose Davila Semprit (The United States; 1900s), Julia de Burgos (Ay, Ay, Ay de la Grifa Negra; 1900s), Pedro Juan Soto (Spiks; 1900s), Piri Thomas (The Konk; 1900s), Esmeralda Santiago (When I was Puerto Rican; 1900s), Martin Espada (Revolutionary Spanish Lesson; 1900s), Maria Teresa "Marisposa" Fernandez (Boricua Butterful; late 1900s)
Other authors:
Jose Marti (Our America; late 1800s), Eugenio Florit (In the Big City; 1900s), Arturo Islas (The Rain God; late 1900s), Isabel Allende (Paula or Casa de espiritus; 1900s), Julio Cortazar (la noche boca arriba; 1900s)
Some of these folks I have read and some I haven't. Have fun!

Women’s History Meme || Executions and Murders (5/5) ↬ Blanche of Bourbon, Queen consort of Castile
At a loss for a motive or cause behind Blanche’s death, Ayala resorts to another apocryphal story. One day, he writes, Pedro was hunting in the environs of Jerez when a shepherd claiming to have a message from God approached him. Pedro was enjoined to renew conjugal relations with Blanche and was assured legitimate heirs to the throne. If he disobeyed, he was promised a tragic end. Suspecting a conspiracy, the king ordered the imprisonment of the shepherd and dispatched Lopez de Cordoba (his camarero) and Matheos Fernandez (cancilfer del sello de fa poridad) to see if Blanche had been a party to the ruse. Though she declared her innocence, Pedro nevertheless ordered her death. … While it is impossible to know the true circumstances of Blanche’s death, Ayala’s story is a useful fabrication invented to highlight the absence of legitimate heirs to the throne, a feature of Pedro’s story intended to lessen the burden of Enrique’s illegitimacy. At the same time, Ayala’s portrayal of Blanche as victim, up to and including the circumstances of her reported death, is a constant feature of the chronicle. If Pedro in fact ordered her death, which is what Ayala wants us to believe, Blanche was one of his most undeserving victims, and the king was at his most merciless and cruel. As if by God’s judgment, or so Catalina implies, Maria de Padilla died shortly thereafter, in July 1361. She likely died of natural causes—as Blanche may have—leaving Pedro four children: Alfonso, Beatriz, Constanza, and Isabel. Immediately after her death, Pedro proclaimed her queen of Castile and ordered a royal burial, with all attendant honors. A funeral cortege carried her body to the monastery of Santa Clara de Astudillo, which she had founded in 1354. In 1362, her remains were transferred to the royal chapel in Seville for permanent repose . — Pedro the Cruel of Castile (1350-1369) by Clara Estow

When that one girl won't stop playing with you so you have to hit her with your fairy wand to show you can curse her and blungeon her at the same time, but even though Marianne has been cursed to constantly have a bad hair or stub her toe painfully every hour won't stop her from poking at her every chance she has.
And not that I drew this as an excuse to draw Alice-rose using a chatellaine and wearing Vivienne Westwood gloves, and Francine in Dior boots and Chanel gloves.....by the way the flowers are called a tussie-mussie which is actually perfumed or has smelling salts in it which victorian ladies carried around bc fainting was common!
