The Iron Brigade was one of the best fighting units of the US Army of the Potomac. Originally they were called the "Black Hat Brigade", due to their black hardee campaign hats. They would gain the name "Iron Brigade" during the battle of South Mountain, when Major General McClellan remarked: "They must be made of iron".
During the battle of Gettysburg, the Iron Brigade would suffer 61% casualties. Because of this high number of losses the Iron Brigade would cease to exist after the battle.
GettysburgNPS made a good quick video on the Iron Brigade over here.

I really do find it extremely charming to go through updating the wiki and finding so many earnest, but entirely ineffective, entries from players who were simply enjoying themselves and don't know too much about the content they are cataloguing.
This is the third mission of the game. It is most certainly not difficult even with starting gear- but it was for this player- and I genuinely can't blame them; inexperience and different skill sets and all that. I find this cute.

Oh yeah buddy, now it's time to get Meta in this battlefield
*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we are gathering the meta pieces of equipment so that I can relive doing 100 runs and I can finally bring my best bud up to the same :)
We needed to do a quick run to wave 20 on Swamp for the piercing sniper, but figured "Just keep going" and made it to 87 (succeeding on 86) despite a LOT of equipment mishaps, I mean hell, we were using massive snipers instead of ironclad (since obviously we didn't have piercing), we were missing a lot of DPS so it was nice to get as far as we did :)
All told, I'm astounded and vindicated to see that Iron Brigade really IS as good as I remember it being. This is my favorite tower defense game of all time, and the survival mode is the best in the genre, fucking adore this game.
Now to just wait and cry myself to sleep wishing and hoping for a IB 2 to happen with just as much quality as this game (but maybe, just maybe, a bit more balance and love towards heavy weapons lol)
*= The Fiesta is, bar none, the best weapon in the game. There are other weapons that fulfill valuable niches, but if you were to simplify the game down to 1 weapon, it's this bad boy.

Got to playing Iron Brigade. Playing Assault Chassis makes me feel like I can't build enough. Playing Engineering makes me feel like my DPS is too low, and playing Standard makes me feel like I'm somehow in a valley between the two. Still fecken' loving this game though.

Rick Jones and Marlo Chandler prepare for their wedding by going on their night outs on separate parties. Marlo Chandler, along with her mother and Betty Ross, go for a girls night out on a Bachelorette Party with She-Hulk, Invisible Woman, Lyja the Skrull, Scarlet Witch and Crystal. Whereas Rick Jones has a bachelor night with Hulk, Captain America, Vision, Quicksilver, Doc Samson, Silver Surfer, Ben Grimm, Iron Man, War Machine, Namor and his old friends from the Teen Brigade.
In the veterans hall, Rick's bachelor party is in full swing. As the Hulk's allies and superheroes converse with each other, members of the Teen Brigade spike the punch. Suddenly, the party is crashed by a costumed woman calling herself the Ecdysiast, hired for the party. Captain America thinks he hired a magician, but is quickly horrified to discover that she is actually a stripper when she shows herself off to Rick. Hulk tells Captain America not to tell Betty about this, wondering what she would think about such objectification of the human body. However, the ladies have all gone to a male strip club where they are having a wild time. Suddenly, the party is crashed by some armed gunmen who have come to rob the patrons. Their mistake, however, is in choosing the night the club is full of female superheroes. Later that night, Rick's party quiets down for the screening of an adult film. After the Vision uses his powers to fix the projector, they are all in for a surprise when the woman in the film turns out to be Rick's bride-to-be.

"Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage."
This season has really been rough for my Young Wolf, RZ-3. For the past several seasons, he has felt used, manipulated, and isolated, with very few people thanking him or taking him seriously (after all, he's "only" nine years old). He watched Rasputin die, then Amanda; he failed to support Rohan; he was forced to rely on people he didn't like and even then he couldn't protect everyone like he was "supposed" to. Despite numerous victories and the newfound power of Strand, he has been privately unraveling both mentally and emotionally. And this season, it came to a head.
Riven found out that RZ-3 is the last self-aware, self-learning AI in the Sol system, just as she was the "last" Ahamkara. (AI like Failsafe don't count bc they're closer to dumb AI than fully sentient programs). Riven quickly turned this info to her advantage by drawing on the two's mutual feeling of bitter helplessness, thus gaining RZ's sympathy and driving a wedge between him and the Awoken. Although he has resisted making wishes so far, he doesn't ignore Riven like he usually does [i.e. Last Wish] and her influence is becoming more evident in the way he reacts to things.
This has become a cause of concern for Mara Sov and the Vanguard, who have sought to limit RZ's interactions with Riven and her clutch and learn the reasons behind RZ's "sudden" change of heart.
- - -
Author's note: "dumb AI" is a carryover term from Halo, not a canon Destiny term. However, with the known exceptions of Rasputin and the Ares One AI, none of the Destiny AI are sentient/self-aware - which is why I use the term.

I just got a beautiful little rush of nostalgia reading some waybackmachine posts on a defunct forum I frequented (not just digging for nostalgia, I have a purpose to doing this).
Tumblr media
Towards the end of the natural life of Iron Brigade the bulk of my playtime each day was clicking "Join Randoms" from the old radio box- IE I clicked quickplay and met random players each day.
This is from a... rather unkind in my current day opinion thread I ran dedicated to cataloguing the kinds of players I'd run into- primarily the "bad" experiences because I thought they were amusing, some definitely were and still are, but others are me basically complaining but laughing while doing so- it was a time.
The gist here being that the forum regulars were all pretty much buds. Some more than others, but when you saw a familiar face it always came with a smile. I had, and still have, nothing but respect for the people I met there- both in terms of the skill they honed and the attitudes they brought to the game.
Anyways, this was a funny moment 5 pages in the thread where Rev, a badass in his own right, mentions his apparent glee at clicking "Random" and getting paired with me specifically.
I can't pretend to vividly remember the run, I did so very many in that game, but this moment makes me smile.
I respected those guys, I respected Rev and Cook, and I loved getting to play with them- but it'd never happened "randomly" before, so I can only imagine that when I noticed in-game I threw my mic on and explained my hype at seeing them.
To have Rev pop on the forums just to mention a fun time we shared; I suppose it has less to do with Rev and more to do with someone being a bud.
I like feeling wanted, or appreciated, or liked- and I felt all those things in that community. I made great friends, and I haven't spoken to them in many years as that's just how things play out.
And this stands out as I'm reading my old posts because it's just a small moment of one of my old friends going "Hey! I had fun with you, my bud." even with a shred of excitement that he got to share something amusing to the forum.
I don't necessarily want to reconnect with these old buds; it was a niche enjoyment we shared and we've all grown this way or that.
But god damn do I wish them all the best and hope if they ever remember Iron Brigade they remember that energetic potty mouth "uwu" levels of cute spam young college guy they knew, and they smile at the ridiculous memory.
I cherish those that've passed through my life, them included.

It does genuinely feel nice to revisit a game that I adored ages ago and just say "Fuck it, I'm doing it all again!"
Great game.

Kang the Conquer (Rama-Tut) from the year 3000 was introduced in Avengers 8, with a cover date of September 1964. The time traveler was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. On his first encounter with the Avengers, he defeated all of them, with the exception of the Wasp. Kang would go on to join the top Pantheon of Marvel villians. After the defeat of Thanos at the end of the movie Avenger's: End Game, Kang was being set up as the new main villian of the MCU "Multiverse Saga" (phases four, five, and six). However, after the actor protraying Kang (Jonathon Majors) was accused of domestic abuse, Disney considered changing this. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was retitled Avengers: Doomsday. Around the same time, Marvel announced that they were bringing Robert Downey Jr (formerly Iron Man) back as Dr. Doom. ("Kang, the Conquer", The Avengers 8#, Marvel Comic, Event)
