Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?
I remember back in 2017 during the Christmas Holidays, my sister and I used to watch IPKKND like crazy. I would watch 10 episodes in a day. This is my favorite Indian series of all time. I'm mostly a fan of Bollywood movies, but this series was a heartthrob. The two actors who played Arnav and Khushi had such chemistry together. I can watch and rewatch it and still never get tired. It's just like Charmed for me.

March 1959 - Freddie Mercury Story!
India - Farrokh Bulsara formed the school band, 'The Hectics', the first band
👉 'Freddie Mercury was a prodigy': Rock star's Panchgani school bandmates remember 'Bucky'
Sep 05, 2016, Scroll.in, by Anvar Alikhan
Freddie Mercury is considered to have been one of the most flamboyant showmen in rock ’n’ roll history. Were there any early signs of that in his performances with the Hectics?
Victory Rana: Freddie was very shy, but once he started playing his piano, he became a completely different person. But I don’t remember him as being any kind of showman – not at that age, anyway.
Subash Shah: Yes, Freddie was very shy. But he was also “a born show-off”, and his entire personality would transform once he was performing. To give you one example: one evening, as teenagers, we were walking on a beach in Zanzibar. Music was playing and Freddie spontaneously started to do the twist, the popular dance move of the time. It was such a mesmerising performance that the next thing we knew was that a group of conservative local girls, wearing burqas, had formed a circle around Freddie and began to twist with him. That was the power of his showmanship, even back then.
Did he display any signs of future greatness back then? Any indications of the shape of things to come?
Victory Rana: To be quite frank, no. Yes, Freddie had a lot of talent, and he was very passionate about his piano playing. But who could say, based on that, that he’d grow up to be the megastar that he became?
Farang Irani: His parents were good solid middle-class Parsis with middle-class values. His father was an accountant in Zanzibar, and he wanted Freddie to become an accountant or a lawyer

IPKKND S:1 Episode-2
Hey, you guys, did you miss me?
Kidding, I know nobody is reading these.
But if someone does in the future. Hi, cutie! I hope you're having fun.
Okay, then let's start with the second episode of Iss Pyar ko kya naam doon
Back at the meet cute.
My girl looks like she is about to cry.
Oh my, the disgust on his face.
He literally slammed her on the stage and not a in a good way. You know what I mean😏
And now they are dragging her away as if she attacked their boss.
Oooh the veil under his feet. What an imagery.
Man, Sanaya Irani looks sooo pretty.
The wedding is still going on?
How long has it been? Khushi stepped out when it was still daylight and now it's basically night.
What the fuck? Did they just locked her into a room?!
Is that what they do to models for not doing their job properly.
So, he thinks that she was sent by a rival company. That's seem dumb and probable at the same time.
This must be so traumatizing for Khushi. To be locked in a room for no reason and being accused of something you have nothing to do with when you know you need to be at home.
Shit! The mother connected the dots. Khushi needs to hurry up, I smell drama.
But also where are the dukaan ke papers? It's clearly not with Khushi. Where did you left them girl? Don't tell me she will lose them.
Oh he came to interrogate her himself.
He looks terrifying af combined with the predatory walk.
Dude, it's not her fault. You should ask your designer.
"Galti bhi aukaat dekh kar karni chahiye thi" Boy you did not. Shut the fuck up and shove that God complex up your ass.
Actually, I like the tension of this scene.
What the fuck do you mean "Ek jaayega dusra phasa lena" Why would you even comment on her sister's character, she is not even here.
"Batameezi to maine abhi shuru bhi nahi kari hai" Boy what?
*Gasp*
Oh he did not just do that! HE DID NOT!!
The disrespect!
Okay, girl there was no need to cover it up with your hair. Your back was already exposed before.
So, he is just gonna let her leave? What happened to the jawab he wanted. He just wanted to harrass my girl. What a fucking asshole.
Yay! Shaadi toot gayi. Congratualations!
I can't with these fucking neighbors.
Oh no the drama waiting to happen at home, once Khushi arrives.
Who is this lady? Constantly ordering around the house anyway. Shut up!
Is the sister gonna tell the truth?
She's back. Don't tell me they are gonna disown her or something.
What are these neighbours still doing in their house. Get the fuck out, the wedding ordeal is done, bitches.
Oh, the mom's walking up to her. Is a slap incoming?
"Tum thik ho?" Aww! that's her first question. What sweet people!
Ughh, who is this aunty? I hate her.
I love her dad though, he is handling this very calmly.
i know she took the papers because it was necessary for the plot but was it necessary for their plan. Couldn't they have just called the groom and asked whether he was in it.
Oh the mother is upset.
So Khushi is adopted. That's such a shitty statement to drop. Who is this lady anyway. The father calls her jiji so is she Khushi's Bua. Bua ji ki apni koi family nahi hai kya? Yaha kyu rehti hai. God, I hate her soo much.
Oh the mother pulled off an Amitabh Bachchan from K3G.
Agreed! Sis is talking sense, the groom was definitely in on it.
"Tujhse saga humara koi nahi hai" Why are these people the sweetest 😭
Oh girl what are you doing? This is definitely a mislead but what she gonna do with the oil and matchsticks. Probably cook something.
Okay so that was the second episode. It was quite uninteresting for the most part.
Hoping something good from the next one.
Buh-bye!

Recent Read Manga Recommendation Round Up - Part 2
More manga I’ve been enjoying recently! Part 1 recommendation list here. Twitter link to this post here.
~Links to my other manga posts~ My personal favs/ones I super enjoyed will have a ✨ on them :)
Got more new titles and shorter reads this time around!
Some of these don't have official (or unofficial) EN translations since I read a lot of JP-only manga and I’d like to make people aware of those titles too! My hope is that bringing awareness to them will help get them licensed :) I guess if any sound interesting, ask publishers to license them! I’ll link any dedicated posts I have for each title.
PLEASE LOOK UP ANY TRIGGER WARNINGS!
HISTORICAL, DRAMA
✨Tenmaku no Jadoogar: A Witch’s Life in Mongol by Tomato Soup
(3 volumes, ongoing)
JP only. The first 5 chapters are up for free in JP here. English summary in this post
A learned Irani slave girl is taken captive by the Mongols in the 13th century and has to use her knowledge to survive. Well-researched historical fiction about Fatima, who was a real person in history. I wrote a long detailed post about it, so check it out!
DRAMA, ART
✨Untitled Blue by Natsume Yukiko
(3 volumes, ongoing)
JP only - English summary in this post
I fell for Untitled Blue SO HARD, and I need the next volume immediately. A suicidal boy who just wants to make art uses the name of a burnt-out prodigy girl to sell his works in anonymity. The found family vibes and feels are strong in this one... And there are some absolutely SICK pages in this.
DRAMA, PSYCHOLOGICAL, ROMANCE
Haru’s Curse by Konishi Asuka
(2 volumes, complete)
Available in English
A woman falls for her dead sister's man and we follow a story about guilt and grief. This is a well-written short manga that tackles touchy topics in a thoughtful manner.
PSYCHOLOGICAL, DRAMA, SCI-FI
Takopi’s Original Sin by Taizan5
(2 volumes, complete)
English available to read on mangaplus
A short manga that was quite popular in Japan by the same author of the currently publishing Jump series The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins, this title is a good intro into Taizan 5's work. The art is expressive, the page turn is used well, and it takes a look at human psychology through three children with complicated relationships and living situations.
LGBTQ, SLICE OF LIFE
Kawa yori mo Nagaku Yuruyaka ni by Yoshida Akimi
(2 volumes, complete)
JP only
From Yoshida-sensei of Banana Fish fame, this short manga predates her more well-known work and you can see her explore some of the themes and ideas that you'll often see in Yoshida's works. I didn't relate to the characters (Which is actually nice sometimes! Different perspectives are good!) and it's kind of a weird manga, but it got a few laughs out of me and it was cool seeing Yoshida experiment.
This is how he introduced himself to an American working at the base - WILD
COMEDY, SLICE OF LIFE
✨Let's Go Karaoke! by Wayama Yama
(oneshot)
Available in English
I've been eyeing this title for YEARS and almost bought it so many times. Finally read it and idk why it took me so long. A charming, quirky, silly, wholesome story about a yakuza getting singing lessons from a choir kid. There's a sequel that's currently being published, ファミレス行こ/Famiresu Iko/"Let's Go To a Diner," but it seems to have a slow release schedule and hasn't been released in volume form yet. I don't see it available to read digitally either so I guess we'll just wait for a tankobon release.
COMEDY, SLICE OF LIFE
✨Captivated, by You by Wayama Yama
(oneshot)
Available in English
A wholesome quick read that left me with a smile on my face. The characters in this manga are just sweet kids and it's delightfully mundane. I mean that in the best way. It was just so nice to read.
COMEDY, SLICE OF LIFE
✨Onna no Sono no Hoshi by Wayama Yama
(3 volumes, ongoing)
JP only
More of Wayama Yama's infectious brand of humor and fuzzy feelings that I'm completely in love with at this point. Read what I said for the last two titles - same good stuff.
DRAMA, SCI-FI, MYSTERY
✨Gene Bride by Takano Hitomi
(3 volumes, ongoing)
JP only - English summary in this post
Sci-fi title that slowly unfolds its mystery and features two incredibly charming characters with a hilarious dynamic and tons of personality.
DRAMA, SLICE OF LIFE
✨Ikoku Nikki by Yamashita Tomoko
(11 volumes, complete)
JP only
My current read!
15-year old Asa's parents passed away in a car accident and her aunt, Makio, who works as an author has taken her in. This series is so human and makes me feel too seen and it's too relatable... Gives me the warm and fuzzies but also makes me want to cry. I need Makio in my life tbh.
Just gonna leave this here...

"All shows are women-based, but somehow the men always get more money"
Watch from 4:00 onwards to see Sanaya Irani talking about pay parity in ITV. I think she's talking about Gul Khan and 4 Lions for sure.
I've been out of IPK loop for a bit but this part in the Sanaya Irani interview I stumbled on, made me so angry (not at her, at the world). She heavily implies that Barun and her were never paid equally while doing the show. And later, when asked to reprise their roles/do a new show together (she's not clear about exactly which), she asked for equal pay as the success of their pairing was due to both of them, and she was DENIED.
This is outrageous to me, considering Sanaya was definitely the bigger and more popular star prior to IPK. And as IPK 3 undoubtedly proved, the big draw of IPK, the thing that made it super successful was the PAIRING of Arnav and Khushi, not just the music or the love-hate story or Barun all by himself. No shade to Barun, he's a fine actor of course. But this is about what made IPKKND work - and the credit for that is EQUALLY shared between the two leads, and of course the writing and the supporting cast are also critical in that success.
Anyway, I'm sorry but I am not mature enough to not be kind of happy that IPK 3 didn't work out, not because of any other reason but just because it made the producers and their misogyny look really really stupid. They really thought they were having a "we can re-do IPKKND, we don't need HER (the HER is always replaceable), as long as we have HIM" moment, and I'm glad they were proven wrong.
It's what fans have pointed out forever, which apparently the producers were too damn stupid to know - of course as fans of Barun himself, we are glad to see a NEW tv show with a totally different story and new co-stars. But if you're going to shove the IPKKND branding in there, you're going to make us listen to the background music in every scene, you're going to name the lead character similar to the iconic ASR, then SORRY - you're the one who is inviting us with garlands into comparison territory, and you WILL be found wanting. IPKKND without Sanaya as Khushi, is really not something anyone who loves this show wishes to see or imagine.
Barun Sobti has his own brand and fan following, which they could have easily cashed in on by making a totally new show with him. But what they wanted to do was cash in on the IPKKND brand, imagining in their arrogance that Sanaya Irani (not to mention good writing 👀) is only incidental and expendable to that brand.
Like there is a reason there are so many fucking ITV shows these days with 17-20 year old girls paired with 32 year old men. Because audiences will easily swallow these odd pairings, and you can get away with paying a 17 year old peanuts. Because the successful 32 year old woman is going to ask for what she's worth. And while producers can make peace with paying men what they're worth per their experience and popularity, doing the same for women, is considered too extreme to even be an option.

Okay so this is a big ask, and I truly cannot say PLEASE AND THANK YOU hard enough for even considering answering this. I’m thinking about making a blog that goes through an entire bloodline. Starting with a bit more old times fantasy stuff, into modern day, and maybe heading into a more cyberpunk era.
I have a base but and ideas for characters that can fill in gaps but I do need some help and opinions, and sorry to say, you’re the best one for this. Sorry for how huge this is gonna get lol. Know that you have my eternal gratitude for even looking at this though.
Okay so for the main base I’m thinking Ram Charan, but I would like a fc that you think could work for a younger fc for him (early to mid 20s)
Up next in the line I just need general fc help. Character is a male about middle aged, and Indian. Very gruff and angry at what seems like the world, but kind deep down. Nearest thing I can liken him to would be the punisher from marvel.
Next up would be my modern muse. I was thinking Avan Jogia, but if you don’t think he’d fit the trend of the previous characters ethnicity wise, I am more than open to different suggestions.
Lastly is the character in a more futuristic type setting. I’d like a woman that very much has a cool biker girl vibe could literally be anywhere from like early 20s to mid 30s.
This got ENORMOUS, but your insight is invaluable when it comes to fc help, but if this is too much for you that’s fine too. Feel free to let me know either way. You do so much for us, and I cant say thank you enough.

Hey jalebi, read your jibe about Arnav keeping numb for whole post-kidnaping scene, Honestly it hell bothered me how Arnav couldn't standup for khushi until she tells him he could see truth in her eyes and I was like wtf!!! It was so disgusting that nobody tried to stop Shyam's blasphemous comments on khushi's character but Arnav being more silent hurt me. He haven't told truth of what had happened, never investigated or brought truth out even after all shyam had done, nor thought of putting him in prison, Khushi being khushi never even blamed anyone except herself was ultimately A indian bahu move. I really wish they had better story line but who am I? I was barely 10 back then😂🤌 who dint have idea about ipkknd except the fact that my family was obsessed with it and all I could grasp with my non-hindi thought process was there's a pale girl with weird clothes and a angry guy who keeps shouting at her and she shamelessly kept gravitating around him until he realised she is his true love and then loved her back, end of the story 😂. Until I have turned 17 when I started watching ipk for real and started loving it along with hating for poor storyline hypocrisy sometimes!!!
Hello Hello,
I wonder if there were some scheduling conflicts and the actor was not available hence they wrote the lines around. But also, in the very little that Arnav says they wanted to establish that now with the whole world against Khushi, Arnav 'believes' her.
They tried to do a 'closure' of the terrace scene and half heard misunderstandings but I think it was a misfire.
Ok, one thing - there's nothing shameless to be attracted to someone you don't want to see.
That is literally the theme of the show. To be attracted to people you do not want. IPK did have a really great storyline compared to its fellow shows but I do think they hammered a lot of ITV expectations into khushi - thus give as a very intrusive inconsistent character.
I will never understand why they let Arnav be abusive post wedding. It should've been a cold wedding, not an abusive one.
Also Arnav and Khush's attraction/love to each other has very little to do with reciprocity. In fact neither realizes really that the other person reciprocated all the feelings.
I do wish Khushi was much better written - and sometimes the female leads on ITV have gotten better with time (Anika, Sonakshis, Tara). And I largely believe it is Sanaya Irani who made Khushi absolutely amazing.
Best,
Jalebi
