Hi everyone. This is Oedipus Ted's sister Amy. Ted is currently in the other room texting (more about that in a second). I am visiting Ted before I give his neighbor a ride to work, I see his blog page on his laptop here, so maybe I can make a few posts or edits before he sees.

When I got here Ted let me in. As we talked he kept texting. When Ted got up to get me a drink, I snuck a quick look at his phone to snoop on his texts. Lo and behold I find Ted was sitting here texting, or I guess I should say Sexting with our mom (She is away for a few days on a business trip (She left yesterday). It has not been 24 hours yet and Ted is so consumed with thoughts about Mom he is already sexting with her, hahaha! Or as he said in one of his posts we should probably call it incexting or insexting, Hahahaha!

Either way, I notice he has been somewhat slack (hopefully not shy or chickening out) about posting recently. I am going to tell him to dramatically improve on posting, or I will start a blog and post all the information about his "secret", or as I LOVE reminding him, locally here so many people know his "secret" should probably be called his non-secret, or his open secret, or his public secret, or I guess his very public secret. Making it public on his blog (He promised to after all) will make no real difference, so he may as well do as he promised by doing it.

Sorry for long post, I may only have time for one post (hopefully not), so I put 2 posts together to make one, before he catches me.

I’ve been slowly getting back into reading comic books and I kinda wanted to voice my advice for people who have been burnt out by the industry or people just getting into the medium for the first time.

I think the best way for literally anyone to get into comics is to just focus on trades. The format is really accessible for both long running legacy series like Batman or Superman or Indie/creator owned comics. The first volume of a series is especially great just to get a feel for the comic as a whole since they typically include the first arc of the entire run.

In relation to trades, they also just make the process of collecting comics honestly just more enjoyable. As opposed to collecting a stack of single issues, it’s nice to just treat the volumes like traditional literature, more emphasis on the ‘novel’ of graphic novel.

Lastly, I recommend just straight up prioritizing creator owned comics and indie comics in general. As opposed to Marvel or DC, these comics are usually passion projects of their original creators and, most importantly, have a more consistent creative team and have a more clear direction as opposed to DC or Marvel where their narratives can be seen as repetitive and have to deal with the burden of long continuities.

InSEXts, Volume 1

If you're down for gorgeously drawn body horror Victorian lesbians this is some Good Shit.

Between this series and the G Willow Wilson +  Marcio Takara "poison ivy" series and Annihilation (2018) (which inspired the artist for "poison ivy") there's this depth of feeling expressed through body horror for queer female characters that feels fresh and powerful.

Body horror as a genre for gender/sexuality Othered people feels so alive to me. Particularly with the way “InSEXts” uses it: monstrousness as a positive and negative quality are intertwined, the way systems of violence makes us monstrous vs our qualities that are denigrated as monstrous (as part of the process of twisting our guts up inside) is all explored without simple dichotomies of good/bad.

And each of these stories has wildly different themes of course - but it's a common palette 🎨  that can be used for talking directly about the boundaries and permeability of the body - its viscera and mess and vulnerability - its "monstrousness" - all the things that a Western notion of white male supremacy uses to justify the denigration of Others - making these sources of struggle, power, danger in an natural sense of mortality and the honest violence of life itself, wisdom, and (positive) humility rather than humiliation... 💕 💋 good good shit!

The tender rawness of the sex (this is a book with f/f sex frankly portrayed as an important part of the themes!) and the natural vs. cultural violence and questions of the permeability of the body especially come together beautifully.
