Il y a de nombreuses auteures-compositrices-interprètes talentueuses au Québec, mais aucune ne me touche autant qu’Ingrid St-Pierre. Depuis maintenant une décennie (en 2009, j’allais la voir jouer du piano et chanter au Café Morgane du boulevard des Forges à Trois-Rivières), elle parvient à trouver les mots justes pour parfaitement dépeindre un état d’âme, une situation, un sentiment. C’est parfois drôle ou mignon, parfois sombre ou mélancolique, mais d’une façon ou d’une autre, c’est toujours finement observé et décrit. 
Petite plage aborde autant la dépression (À la mer) que la vieillesse (Les joailliers) et ces thèmes fertiles que son l’amour et le couple (Les amoureux scaphandres, La vie devant, Les épousailles), immanquablement avec sincérité, esprit et poésie. Un des nombreux moments forts : La lumineuse (lettre à mon fils), une missive qui déborde d’espoir. Réalisé par Philippe Brault tout comme le précédent (Tokyo), le disque n’est jamais monotone, modulant des sonorités variées autour du piano et de la voix de St-Pierre. Entre autres, on peut entendre Camille Paquette Roy au violoncelle, Liu-Kong Ha aux percussions, et Brault lui-même aux effets sonores, à la programmation et à divers instruments. Il y a même le duo électro-R&B Heartstreets qui fait une étonnante apparition sur Sac banane! 
Mon père est décédé il y a un an et je croyais avoir fait mon deuil, mais écouter les paroles de L’enneigée, la chanson qu’Ingrid a écrite après la mort de sa grand-mère (qui lui avait déjà inspiré Ficelles), m’a fait à nouveau pleurer à chaudes larmes. Malgré tout, autant cette pièce que les huit autres de cet album où aucune seconde n’est gaspillée font surtout beaucoup de bien en mettant des émotions en mots et en musique avec tant de délicatesse et de dextérité.
