Even before Jawan released, people were doubtful about Atlee's filmmaking. After release, many were like same to same, ditto, nothing new.
I mean yeah sure, he gets inspired from a lot of places but cutting and stitching and making it presentable is an art itself. We've now more than hundred years of cinema with us, in multiple languages, of multiple cultures. Just in India itself, the multitude is so vast that it's actually criminal that we don't explore it more in our cinemas. Bring it together, show that unity in diversity.
For me what Jawan does is bring in that. We all know srk is the Delhi guy. We all know Nayanthara is the lady superstar from the southern industry. We all know Vijay sethupathi, the master from south. And of course Atlee, the flamboyant director from South. And we see scenes set up in North East, in the borders, in the villages.
I get the criticism that it's staple for movies from south Industry to show villages and ground realities but it's huge for bollywood, especially during these times.
We can argue over languages forever, but we can't deny the reach bollywood has. So to see, the most significant bollywood, Scratch that, the most significant Indian actor, to take on a plot that deals with everything and asks the legit questions in this political climate, is just really important.

DHOLERA SMART CITY PROJECT DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING
Dholera Smart City refers to one of the latest greenfield smart city projects in Gujarat that connects Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad. It is expected to stand out as an example for all the major smart cities of India. The Dholera smart city project is going to be the biggest greenfield project in Asia.
The speciality of the Dholera SIR Project is its non-polluted and clean ambiance. The total Dholera smart city project area encompasses 920 sq. km and offers immense growth and development possibilities including high-tech infrastructure, great connectivity, along with the overall sustainable development of the region including ample greenery all around.
The entire Dholera SIR area will be developed in different phases. Each phase will cater to the development of different activation area allocated to it. The phases are further broken down into six town planning schemes. The aim of the project is to fulfil the increasing need for homes that offer all amenities and are within a budget.
Is Dholera Smart City Ready?
The development of the Dholera smart city will be in different phases. The project's Phase 1 will include the First and Second Town Planning Schemes (1 & 2). The approximate area covered in Town Planning Scheme 1 is 51 sq. km. On the other hand, 102 sq. km is the approximate area for Town Planning Scheme 2.
However, the total Dholera smart city area will also cover 250 meters of the planned Expressway. This road will stretch for 110 KM more as a connecting link between Ahmedabad, Dholera Expressway, and Bhavnagar. Therefore, the people in Gujarat will be long-term gainers after the completion of this massive project.
Phase 1 of the Dholera smart city project is expected to be completed by 2023. However, the activation area or the area which is going to be industrial area majorly and is about 22.5 Sq. KM is still under construction will be operational.
The construction of the Dholera International Airport phase 1 will begin in 2022 and is expected to be completed by 2024. The construction of the Ahmedabad to Dholera Greenfield expressway will also be completed around the same time.
What is the Status of Dholera Smart City?
Dholera smart city is an upcoming city in Gujarat , India developed by Dholera Development Authority (DDA). Dholera SIR Phase 1 is completed with TP1 & TP2, which are industrial zones and residential zone areas with their own hub and city canter zone.
Further phase 2 will be developed in the next 10 years, and after that, phase 3, which will be developed after 20 years. Overall, Dholera SIR Project will be fully developed in 2043.

Raksha Bandhan ficlet is inspired by the casting of Sabina in the tv show!
Every year in the Pleasant/Pleasure household, Raksha Bandhan comes and goes. But this year, Sabina finally has someone to make a Rakhi for: Alex. (Alex is completely oblivious to becoming an adopted brother, and thinks Sabina just gave him a fancy friendship bracelet)
(Raksha Bandhan is a primarily Hindu festival in India where girls tie "rakhi" bracelets onto their brothers as a symbol of protection. It's also a way to form kinships that aren't blood related — and once you accept the Rakhi tied around your wrist, it is socially unacceptable to be romantically involved with the girl who gave it to you, as you've accepted the responsibility of being a brother to her and are now part of her family.)
Space Hotel takes place in Ark Angel (obviously) and is a doctor who crossover!
when Alex goes into space, he runs into another ordinary human, investigating the Space Hotel — Rose Tyler. And there’s more than just a lack of funds at play here on Ark Angel...
Tintin crossover — Alex runs into Tintin on one of his missions, and Tintin takes him under his wing as they work together (also Snowy and Alex become bffs). This one more of a general idea + vibes rather than plot at this point lol. I just love the idea of these two causing trouble together and Alex getting a healthy mentor and maybe even getting encouraged to leave spying for investigative journalism (which, apparently has a lot of similarities!)
The Carpet Weaver is an original story idea I had while writing Dhamaka in Delhi, exploring the life of a girl, whose village in northern India is the heart of a carpet weaving industry, through the rugs she weaves. I don’t really have a plot for this, and I’m on the fence whether it should be the type of story where her carpet weaving is a symbol for her dreams and stories, or if it should be a magical realism type of story where she discovers her weaving/rugs have some kind of innate power to them 🤔
I am a carpet weaver, like many of my neighbours in my village. My father purchases dyed woolen thread and my brothers build the heavy, large looms. In the daytime, my fingers run through the coiled spindles, up and down, through the crisp white grid of cotton threads, slowly but surely singing colours to life in a hundred, thousand knots. And when it rains, and the clouds cover the mountain range, the lights flicker and I weave my dreams onto the loom.
Never Do These Things if You’re A Vampire! This is a silly picturebook idea, where a little vampire girl discovers that the things her father forbade her from doing (eating garlic, going out in the sun, having a pet other than a bat, etc) are actually just things he thinks are life-ending, and not actually harmful to vampires at all! (eg, she puts on sunscreen and goes to the beach! garlic smells very strong, but she enjoys the taste once she gets used to it!)

India Impressions (2023)
I just returned from a week-long trip to India. Most of this trip was meeting entrepreneurs and investors centered around spending time with the team from Bolt in Bangalore (a USV portfolio company). This was my second time in India, following a family vacation in 2015. Here are some observations from my visit:
First, the mood in the country feels optimistic and assertive. People I spoke to, not just from the tech ecosystem, but also drivers, tour guides, waiters, students, and professors, all seemed excited and energized. There was a distinct sense of India emerging as a global powerhouse that has the potential to rival China. As it turns out quite a few government policies are aimed at protecting Indian industrial growth and separating it from China (including the recent ban on TikTok and other Chinese apps). Also, if you haven't seen it yet, I recommend watching the movie RRR. It is a "muscular" embodiment of the spirit that I encountered that based on my admittedly unscientific polling was much liked by younger people there (and hardly watched by older ones).
Second, air pollution in Delhi was as bad as I remembered it and in Mumbai way worse. Mumbai now appears to be on par with Delhi. For example, here is a picture taken from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, which is en route from the airport, where you can barely see the high rise buildings of the city across the bay.
Third, there is an insane amount of construction everywhere. Not just new buildings going up but also new sewer lines, elevated highways, and rail systems. Most of these were yet to be completed but it is clear that the country is on a major infrastructure spree. Some of these projects are extremely ambitious, such as the new coastal road for Mumbai.
Fourth, traffic is even more dysfunctional than I remember it and distances are measured in time, not miles. Depending on the time of day, it can easily take one hour to get somewhere that would be ten minutes away without traffic. This is true for all the big cities I went to visit on this trip (Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore). I don't really understand how people can plan for attending in person meetings but I suppose one gets used to it. I wound up taking one meeting simply in a car en route to the next one.
Fifth, in venture capital there are now many local funds, meaning funds that are not branded offshoots of US funds, such as Sequoia India. I spent time with the team from Prime Venture Partners (co-investors in Bolt) and Good Capital among others. It is great to see that in addition to software focused funds there are also ones focused on agtech/food (e.g. Omnivore) and deep tech (e.g. Navam Capital). Interestingly all the ones I talked to have only offshore LPs. There is not yet a broad India LP base other than a few family offices and regulations within India are apparently quite cumbersome, so the funds are domiciled in the US or in Mauritius.
Sixth, the "India Stack" is enabling a ton of innovation and deserves to be more widely known outside of India (US regulators should take note). In particular, the availability of a verified digital identity and of unified payments interfaces is incredibly helpful in the creation of new online and offline experiences, such as paying for a charge on the Bolt charging network. This infrastructure creates a much more level playing field and is very startup friendly. Add to this incredibly cheap data plans and you have the foundations for a massive digitally led transformation.
Seventh, India is finally recognizing the importance of the climate crisis both as a threat and as an opportunity. India is already experiencing extreme temperatures in some parts of the country on a regular basis (the opening of Kim Stanley Robinson's Ministry for the Future extrapolates what that might lead to). India is also dependent on sufficient rainfall during the Monsoon season and those patterns are changing also (this is part of the plot of Neal Stephenson's Termination Shock). As far as opportunity goes, India recently discovered a major lithium deposit, which means that a key natural resource for the EV transition exists locally (unlike oil which has to be imported). All in all this trip has made me bullish on India. Over the coming years I would not be surprised if we wind up with more investments from USV there, assuming we can find companies that are a fit with our investment theses. In the meantime, I will look for some public market opportunities for my personal portfolio.
