IISM MSM student Zafar Ali-Left Handed Batsman is Rising Sports Star of India
Tumblr media
“Every setback is a setup for a comeback." - Joel Osteen
With these words echoing in my heart, my sporting journey began at the tender age of 6, armed with nothing but a plastic cricket bat. The more I grasped that bat, the more I fell in love with this beautiful sport. It became more than a pastime; it became the love of my life. At the age of 11, I proudly donned the jersey of my first cricket club.
The professionals spotted something special in me—a promising left-handed batsman with an innate talent for the game. Soon, I represented my club in under-14 tournaments, chasing my dreams with unwavering determination.
But then, life threw a brutal twist my way. A ligament tear in my right knee led to severe dislocations of my kneecap. Two surgeries later, I received a diagnosis that shattered my world—a neurological disorder affecting my leg muscles. Doctors delivered the devastating news that I might never set foot on the cricket field again.
Yet, I've always believed that every setback is merely a setup for an epic comeback. Today, after battling through all the odds and uncertainties, I stand at the threshold of a new beginning. I've embarked on a journey at IISM—an institution that has reignited my passion and given me the chance to dream big once more.
My goal is clear—to make a meaningful contribution to my beloved game, not just on the field but off it too. No matter the challenges that lie ahead, I'm ready to face them head-on.

Ex-Indian batsman Dilip Vengsarkar praises Indian Super Star Virat Kohli
Former batsman of Indian cricket team Dilip Vengsarkar praises Virat Kohli's "biggest legacy," and his impact on Indian cricket is the fitness culture the fittest cricket personality has managed to establish since his captaincy tenure.
Tumblr media
Kohli held an inspirational presence in terms of performances and fitness and laid the benchmark for other cricketers in the squad, with the much-documented introduction of the yo-yo test as one of the metrics for selection.
Vengsarkar, whose time period as BCCI's ex-chief selector is renowned for fighting in favor of Kohli's maiden international appearance back in 2008 above the then cricket board head N Srinivasan's preferred choice, Subramaniam Badrinath, spoke in glowing praise of the man he recognized well before Indian cricket's top brass did.
Vengsarkar, who played 116 Tests and 129 ODIs for India, said that "his biggest legacy to Indian cricket is the 'culture of fitness' he has introduced into the Indian team and the whole system.”
He further added that, "When I see him convert ones into twos and twos into threes, I tell the boys at my coaching academy to learn from him and replicate his fitness standards. All the young cricketers who come to my academy want to emulate him, which is a good sign for Indian cricket.”

Thoughts on Ishan :
(and ict in general)
1. When he opted out of India's test squad before our series with S. Africa....I knew... I KNEW it will be a long time before we'll get to see him playing for India again.
And then few weeks later Rahul Dravid said in a press conference... He can come back... Just play domestic.... My heart sank.
Here's the thing, I don't blame him at all for taking a break due to mental fatigue.
I fully support his decision as well. He prioritised himself and that's good.
But my dude... If I was your friend, if I was there with you... I wouldn't have let you go.
I would have grabbed his trousers and refused to let go. This is team India. You take one step back and 10 other people are standing right behind you ready to take your place.
Shubhman gill was hyped up so much... Remember his 126 in 63 balls against New Zealand?
But he faltered.
And Today he's in reserve.
Jaiswal is going to be our new opener in all 3 formats very soon. And there's nothing wrong with that. The guy earned it.
Ishan left the South Africa Series and a month later during the india Vs England test Series Jurel was picked and he did an excellent job.
Now imagine... Imagine if Ishan was there instead... If ishan had scored those 90 runs.....he would have made his place permanent.
I'll repeat myself.... I don't blame him for leaving... But he should have thought this through. Especially when a guy like Rahul Dravid is your coach.
(he's the same guy who gave declaration during a test match when Sachin Tendulkar was about to score a century. He's not as innocent as he looks.)
Another thing which really hurts me is how so many people complain about him being benched and then dropped but Yaar....there are tons of players who have gone through this.
Even Ashwin was benched. He said in an interview that when his team would win he wouldn't even feel like going in the ground to congratulate them coz of how hurt he felt.
It happens.
.
.
.
Anyways My overall opinion on this drama is :
1. I support him for leaving.
2. But I hate that he left.
3. A block of ice would be a better coach than Rahul Dravid.
Anyways... Jo hogaya so hogaya.
What I want now is for him to focus on his future.
And He can start by leaving Mumbai Indians.
MI was the team who would pick young players, groom and invest in them and make them capable enough for team India.
The MI we have seen this year is no longer that team. It doesn't matter how many reels their insta page puts out, the atmosphere of that team is tense, awkward and a hot mess.
If Mumbai really cared about a future captain as they claimed.... They should have made Ishan their new captain...like how csk and gt did with ruturaj and gill.
But oh well.
Right now... The best he can do is keep himself fit, play domestic and leave MI at THE EARLIEST.
That team, it's atmosphere, the mismanagement and inner conflicts (believe me, they exist) will not help him at all.
Imo, he doesn't need a team to grow. He has developed a good skill set. What he needs now is a stage.
A team like Kkr, RR or Gt will be great for that because these teams don't drop Their players after 1 or 2 matches... Have good coaches, stable environment and a good atmosphere overall.
Ishan is an excellent wicket keeper + batsman and the type of cricket he plays is best suited for t20 format (one day and test also but especially t20).
Whether we win or lose this t20 world cup... This one is the last one for our senior players.
After that, our youngsters will take charge (at least they should).
Yashasvi and Abhishek should be our openers.
Gill, rutu and Riyan would perfect be for middle order.
Ishan, with his explosive batting style, would be the perfect finisher.
Also... This dumb culture of batters not learning bowling (encouraged by this stupid impact rule) that has developed in the Indian team needs to STOP.
Look at Australia and New Zealand's t20 squad. Look at how many all rounders they have.
Look at ours. We won the 2007 cup because of all rounders as well.
Also... We cage our players. We hold them back. A player like Travis head is playing with such ferocity because his style and mindset is supported by his captain, his team and his media.
Meanwhile... If an Indian player attempts to do the same and doesn't make a big score in 2 -3 matches... He'll be benched instantly.
Another thing... If we look up the stats of our players in this year's t20 wc squad...
Except virat, Bumrah and maybe kuldeep ...everyone else is on ram bharose.
When players like n. reddy, ishan, rutu, gill, Riyan, natrajan... will be groomed and given enough opportunities....their aggressive style will be supported instead of criticized.... that's when we will win trophies.

Okay but one thing that I'm super impressed by is the intent showed by the Indian team, all of them were focused on making as much runs as possible disregarding personal milestones. Didn't matter if the wicket fell they took risks and hit freely which didn't always worked but did great for the overall team score, the batsman weren't scared to take chances and score runs wherever it was possible whether by hitting boundaries or by running quick singles and doubles and the bowlers weren't scared to try new deliveries or trying the same bowls over and over again to get results even if they were going expensive... And they also didn't hit blindly, they slowed down and rotated the strike while trying to settle in. Rohit's mindset has clearly affected the team and all of them even Kohli (who didn't took up balls to regain his form) showed pure intent and focus... I'll say this again I'm really proud of this team and the mindset with which they played their game 💙

Just for fun, how do you think Jimmy and Ali would react to the various guys VK brings home while they're not together: Kane, Rohit, ABD, Glenn, Faf, Joey, Ben
Kane I think they like best, he’s sweet and caring (and importantly to Jimmy beta so he can still overpower him). He treats VK the best and Ali may or may not have been looking up Indian wedding ceremonies seriously thinking VK had found the one. They’re all very heartbroken when that one comes to an end, and Ali still doesn’t get it.
Jimmy is confused when Ali explained that Rohit is VK’s boyfriend, having been 1000% convinced they were just really close friends. He can’t get a read on Rohit which bugs the bowler, and although Ali is happy for them Jimmy is quietly quite glad when that one comes to an end.
Ali isn’t a fan of ABD, thinking he’s pushing VK into situations that the batsman might not be choosing. But VK is smitten and any talks of a warning just get a load of back chat and “you’re not my real dad” style snips thrown Ali’s way. Jimmy assures the opener that he’d handle ABD if push came to shove. Ali isn’t convinced Jimmy would have the upper hand. It’s partially Ali’s pressure that sees that relationship coming to an end.
Jimmy is initially peeved when VK once again says his boyfriend is Australian, but he can’t help but coo at them when he discovers it’s another omega VK is bringing home. Ali agrees they’re cute, but he’s concerned about what bringing another omega into their weird little dynamic might do, and he fears Jimmy will make another bonding. VK is pissed that Ali’s weirdness with Glenn pushed him away.
Jimmy has a bit more time for Faf (and no it’s not purely because of his stellar stats against Australia, it’s not all about cricket Ali) but still feels a bit threatened by him. It’s Faf who ends this one because he wants to share heats with VK and he can’t. VK quietly is happy about the end of the relationship because they’d only been dating for three months and the alpha was already trying to bond him? Ali tries to impress that if VK is not comfortable he should say no in any situation. Anyone who actually loves him will respect his wishes.
Considering VK has been living with Ali and Jim for a while and Joe is basically their adopted son, this one kind of sort of accidentally happens? Ali is bringing them both out another beer after Joe has come over for a summer barbecue and VK may have grabbed Joe by the collar and they might be making out and Ali might have to check there is no glass in his foot because he possibly dropped the beer bottles in shock? Jimmy is very comfortable with this match and although it’s one of Ali’s favourites that VK has dated (he knows Joey will treat him right) something never quite feels right about it.
The stern words and look Jimmy gives Ben as he comes in the house for the first time, slightly nervous but trying not to show it as VK clings to his hand so tight, cause Ali to even tell Jimmy to calm down. If looks could kill… Which makes no sense to Ali because it’s Ben and they know Ben and not a chance Ben is going to do anything to hurt VK. But to Jimmy he is another alpha and it is another rival. He finds himself almost being possessive with VK in front of Ben, asking him silently to rise to the fight. Ben seems after another useless nets sessions because all Jimmy is trying to do is take his head off that maybe VK isn’t worth the hassle. VK is not happy with Jimmy when he discovers, again, an alpha suitor has left him because of the bowler.

AITA for lying to my brother to bring our family back together?
I (18M) just got home from boarding school. Before I went home, I went to see my Nani and Dadi and long story short they ended up spilling a big family secret to me. Turns out my brother R (30sM) was adopted. I loved R, he was the best big brother ever, but when I was younger and had first gone to boarding school, he came to see me and told me that he loved me but that he had to go and made me promise never to ask why he left. I begged him to stay, but he refused.
I learned from Nani and Dadi that R had fallen in love with a girl from Chandni Chowk that I will call A, and that caused a huge fallout between him and our father where some harsh and terrible things were said because my father has an ego the size of Delhi. R was supposed to marry his best friend N (30sF), and my father could never forgive him for refusing to follow the family tradition of the father picking the daughter-in-law.
So anyway, after learning all this, I learned that R had gone to London with A and her family and I came up with a mission: I was going to bring R home. My mother has never been the same, Nani and Dadi miss him every day, and even though my father is stubborn as a mule, I know he regrets what he said to R.
So I went to London under the guise of getting my MBA because that’s family tradition as well, and turns out that the university I’m going to is also the university where A’s little sister P (18F) goes! She didn’t recognize me at first, which was good because I didn’t want R to recognize me yet either. So after I teased P a little, I let her in on my plan and she promised to help me because A is absolutely miserable outside of India. So P got R to let me crash at their house for a bit, and I lied and used a fake name, our father’s name, to try and gauge his reaction. R let me stay and P and I schemed behind his back and I even got A to talk to my mom without letting either know who they really are and they cried a lot and talked about how much they regretted that they couldn’t have relationships with their own mother/daughter-in-law.
Eventually, R and A’s son K had a performance at school with his classmates and P and I helped scheme a little to change the song from Do Re Mi to the Indian National Anthem in order to cheer A up. A was so happy and cried her eyes out afterwards, and then K shared a piece of advice I gave him with his father.
The thing is, R had given that exact same piece of advice to me. R recognized it instantly, and then he recognized me instantly.
After a lot of hugging and crying, R asked me if I got on the Cricket team like I promised him (I did, I was their top Batsman and hit a game-winning Six at the end of my last match) and then we hugged and cried some more. He begged me to go home, said that it was enough that he knew I was doing so well, but I begged him to come home. Everyone misses him. He refused, so P and I came up with another plan to get my dad and brother to talk. I tricked dad into thinking that I was with a girl, and he flew in to “surprise” me. I asked him to meet me at the mall, and mom’s always had a sixth sense for when R’s around. She just feels it. But before she found find him, my father did and he got upset at me, but after a loud and long argument I managed to get him to admit, at least to himself, that he loved R.
Then… then Dadi died. I still miss her so much. Her last wish was to have R help put her to rest, and thank god he did. I begged him to come home, to see Mom so she could have strength to live the rest of her life because she wanted nothing more than to see R again. Honestly, it didn’t even matter that R was adopted. He always used to joke that she loved him more than me, and I see how broken she’s become without him. He accepted because mom never once wronged him, and we used that to get him to see and talk to dad.
When we found him, he was crying in front of the picture of R and me that he keeps in the house, and the old bastard finally admitted that he regretted what he said and R said he regretted never calling back and they cried and hugged and R finally came home and my family was finally back together.
But now my dad and R keep teasing me about how convoluted my plan was to bring them back together. Personally I think that nothing less convoluted would have worked because R was so hurt and my father is the stubbornest man in India, but now I’m thinking… was I really TA for lying to my brother about my name and not just telling him it was me in the first place? He really missed me and was worried about me and I let him be worried for longer for no reason.
So, AITA?
