the accelerated housing initative in brampton is such bullshit. i worked in brampton for almost a year (i am not claiming to be a brampton resident or have an authority on brampton, btw), and it's FULL of the consequences of accelerated housing. there is so much car dependent, suburban-hellhole-esque infrastructure, and it's built right outside factories and powerplants that vent gases to the environment.

the factory i worked at would vent ethyl acetate/other volatile compounds to the atmosphere every day, and a 50m radius around the factory smelled like fucking nail polish remover. (there's a bunch of environmental regulations on the allowable ppms of certain chemicals in the atmosphere.....i'm sure my factory was meeting them, but that doesn't mean it's a place you can build houses around). it's uninhabitable. and they're building more houses that will be poorly planned and a disservice to brampton residents.

i'm going on a tangent, but Canadians always take their masks off to show their vehement racism regarding brampton. they always say that brampton is a shithole because of the indian/other blue collar immigrants that live in that area. it's NOT the immigrants - it's the dogshit infrastructure that makes brampton inhospitable to anyone except for factories and vehicles.

How do you tell/deduce if someone is a chef

Especially the hands are a good place for deductions if someone is a chef. For example chefs tend to have very clean and well kept hands, with short nails, no nail polish and mostly no rings or other decorations that could be a hiding and breeding place for bacteria and dirt, which could then be transferred to the food, which would be a significant risk for food safety. Hair and beard are often also kept short or in a ponytail, otherwise they have to wear hairnets. Also their habits like repeated handwashing and hygiene habits could represent their profession, but alternatively could also be someone in healthcare.

The most telling would be that they themselves could smell like food if they are spending most of their time in the kitchen, surrounded with the steam of the cooking and the olfactory molecules of the food which then cling to the skin and hair. You can also tell what exactly they are mainly preparing if you can determine the smell. Often covered in grease if they work with the fryer, smelling smokey if they work the grill, and especially onions and garlic is a smell hard to get rid of especially on their hands where they directly handled and touched the food. A pâtisserie chef will smell different than someone who fries onions and meat all day. They can also smell like specific spices that could indicate certain foods, for example if they cook in an indian restaurant. Some foods can also stain the hands, e.g. curcuma stains hands a bright yellow.

Burns or cuts on their hands from mistakes while cooking, or general thickened skin because repeated exposure to heat.

Another very telling indicator is a knife callus on the lower part of their dominant hand’s pointer finger where they control the knife, most chefs who have done the job for a significant amount of time have this callus.

How they handle certain utensils like knives could also be a clue, whether they are able to cut professionally or like an amateur, how they hold forks and spoons. Another indicator for working in gastronomy in general is if people can carry several glasses or plates at once, how well they can balance without dropping anything.

And of course the easiest would be if you see them in their chef uniform or work clothes, then you don't need to be a genius to deduce their occupation.

Aphrodite Cabin HCs

This is everything from fleshing the different members out, to various hijinks and random headcanons. remember - specializations are broad, mostly because the aphrodite kids take wide swaths of land and then declare them their own.

Drew Tanaka - head counselor. represents philautia, love of self. specializes in Chinese and Japanese clothing - particularly likes the Tang Dynasty of China and the Meiji Period of Japan. She moved from Japan to America when she was ten after her stepmother died. Her father feels mostly cold indifference for her. Uses two Celestial Bronze-sharpened fans. She/her, aromantic asexual. Trans mtf.

Piper McLean - technically gone. former head counselor. represented storge, love of family (mostly). was not there long enough to cement her specialization. Use Katoptris, her beloved dagger. She/her, homoromantic homosexual.

Valentina Diaz - represents eros, love of physicality. specializes in South American clothing, mostly Argentinian, although she has dipped in other places around South America. grew up with her loving father, who does tech. Uses a really big sword. She/they, biromantic bisexual.

Mitchell Láska - represents xenia, hospitality. specializes in Southern Europe and Northern Africa. He's quarter-Czech, quarter-Egyptian (and half-god). His mother raised him on both cultures, and she runs an inn. Uses a spear. He/him, homoromantic asexual. Trans ftm.

Sajan Mishra - represents philia, love of friends. specializes in Indian, Pakistani, and Nepalese clothing. He's a desi kid and goes to Hindi school on weekends. Compains about it, too. Uses a bow and arrows. He/they, aromantic heterosexual.

Lacy Abbott - represents agape, love of faith. specializes in Northern Europe. She was raised under the Church of England, and moved to America later. Token white of the Aphrodite Cabin. Uses a mace. She/her, does not know her orientation other than that she doesn't like boys.

Ife Kayode - represents storge, love of family (mostly). specializes in Subsaharan Africa clothing. She lives at camp year-round after her mother died in a car crash very recently. Uses an ida sword. She/ae, does not know her orientation.

Headcanons:

no Aphrodite Cabin member is straight. just... no.

Lacy makes them all corsets at one point to experiment with tailoring. All of them love their corsets.

the Aphrodite Cabin's sparkling nail polish has a secret - it is infused with Celestial Bronze, or, more recently, Imperial Gold. They have a single, incredibly sparingly used dagger shavings from some of Artemis's silver. Bronze and gold have very different looks, and so does silver. If anything, the Aphrodite Cabin steals the metal scraps that are pretty much useless that are left over from the Hephaestus Cabin's creations.

they literally use daggers to do eyeliner.

the Aphrodite Cabin has their 'emergency weapons' - the campers are pretty scared of that. It's actually the two knives in their combat boots and nails sharp enough to claw out a monster's throat.

there is always a Aphrodite Cabin member for each form of love. Piper joined after Silena's death (the space of around two months between) and Ife joined after Piper left the demigod world.

Drew is the most levelheaded Aphrodite camper.

they braid each other's hair. except for Piper. Piper's always been an exception to most Aphrodite kid things, because she vehemently hates it. the other Aphrodite kids don't understand.

ᴄʟᴇᴀɴʟɪɴᴇꜱꜱ / ɢʀᴏᴏᴍɪɴɢ: Left to his own devices, Codex is a mess. Not in a rotten food or trash kind of way, but in a ‘function over form’ kind of way. He’s not the type to put away a project that he’s working on when he knows he’s just going to have to get everything out again later. He doesn’t see the point of the additional work. As far as grooming is concerned, Codex is vain but also lazy. He keeps his hair short because it’s easier to care for and keeps his nail polish etc. touched up because it’s just easier to do it that way than it is to have to re-do it all at once. He regularly sleeps in his eyeliner (in his mind, he’s blind in one eye anyway. Plus, he’s just going to put it back on in the morning) At home, he’s the type to wear enough that he wouldn’t have to face a potential intruder completely naked, but he’s definitely gone multiple days wearing the same pajama pants. His closet, however, is immaculate. He takes good care of his clothing, predominantly because it’s more work to iron and style clothing than it is to have to fix everything any time you decide on a new outfit than it is to just put it away correctly to begin with.

ꜱʟᴇᴇᴘɪɴɢ ʜᴀʙɪᴛꜱ: Even worse. He finds sleep ‘inconvenient’ and regularly works until he simply passes out from sheer exhaustion. Because of this, he can sleep anywhere and under virtually any conditions.  

ꜰɪᴛɴᴇꜱꜱ: Codex is functionally fit. He’s trained predominantly as a stealth fighter. He’s got exceptional stamina and flexibility, but he wouldn’t be considered ‘physically strong’ by most people’s standards.

He doesn’t want to make into old age having never ‘done anything.’ He lives for adventure and challenge and enjoying the moment. Will probably end up with “it was worth it” as his last words.

ᴠɪʀᴛᴜᴇꜱ: ha. Hahahahh. Very, very few.  Bun is a con artist, a thief, and a former sex worker.  He doesn’t have many of the ‘traditional virtues’, but he does have a few self-imposed rules that he lives by: ‘Don’t kick someone when they’re down’ (he won’t steal from someone just because something made them an ‘easy target’), ‘You always protect kids’, and ‘Life is too short to be boring’ to name a few.

ꜰʟᴀᴡꜱ: The whole bun? He’s extremely emotionally guarded. He avoids relationships like the plague (he has no idea how he’s engaged.) He’s hot-tempered and stubborn. He’s a smoker and has a bit of a gambling problem…

He very rarely refers to anyone by their actual name. Coworkers and such become things ‘boss’, ‘bud’ or ‘mate’; customers become ‘friend’ or ‘love’; causual flirting or love interests become ‘dearheart’, ‘my sweet’, or ‘darling’. Even his lovers and his ferret have little pet names.

ꜰᴀᴛʜᴇʀ: His biological father is unknown. His mother told him that he was Rava and that he and his younger sister share the same father, but that’s about all he knows about him.

ᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴘᴀʀᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ꜰɪɢᴜʀᴇ(ꜱ): John Orville Locke—mentor and adoptive father. Took Codex in after he ran away from his tribe due to abuse. He was an eccentric inventor and nurtured Codex’s natural curiosity and intelligence. Unfortunately, they were separated when the exploratory research vessel they were on was taken hostage by pirates. Codex was forced to stay on as ‘crew’ while Mr. Locke and his adopted sister Alice were left in the nearest port. Based on conversations with Alice, Dex is under the impression that he is deceased. But, he doesn’t know that for sure.

ꜱɪʙʟɪɴɢ(ꜱ): biological younger sister, Priska Lenskya. Priska is unusually close in age to Codex and the two looked remarkably similar as young children and were often mistaken for twins. He still loves her and misses her dearly, but he tries not to think about it. He hopes that she met a better fate than he did.

Adopted sister: Alice Lynx (formerly Genevieve Alice Locke) his mentor’s daughter, about 5 years older than Codex. He didn’t consider her to be his ‘sister’ until they were reunited as adults. They are *extremely* close and she is one of the few people who are allowed to call Dex out on his shit.

he was born and raised in Varanasi, India until the age of 10. then he immigrated to Britain with his parents where he studied in █████ University till he was 18. (p.s. i changed his past from Keaton's death to simply getting tortured physically and mentally)

➤ Ayaan originally wanted to be a Wildlife Biologist, maybe a part time Toxicologist, but his father wanted him to join I-DIE so he did. albeit reluctantly and against his will. because his father insisted so.

➤ has a surprisingly very british sounding accent despite what people think when they hear about his indian heritage

➤ tends to violently and unexpectedly switch between hindi, english and bengali whenever he's agitated or just mad in general

➤ can be frequently seen facepalming himself on the face and letting out an anguished "কি খারাপ অবস্থা" (basically "what the hell" In english) whenever someone messes up something before him, which they frequently do owing to his intimidating reputation

➤ has a pet venus flytrap. and a poecilotheria metallica (aka peacock tarantula) too. which he always brings to work with him. apparently it's his emotional support tarantula. don't question it.

➤ his favourite animal is the Eastern Green Mamba.

➤ has been bitten by snakes more than 50 times so far. that, not including bites from wild hornets, his pet tarantulas, scorpions and etc

➤ Ayaan's house has a small greenhouse behind it, which is basically filled with all sorts of poisonous plants. 90% of them at least. but who even dares to test the statistics out. the poisonous garden is filled with Lily of the Valley's, Oleanders, Marigolds, Peruvian Lilys, Water Hemlocks, Wolfsbanes, Angel's Trumpets and many more. so better stay away from it. if you value your life that is.

➤ also has a seperate section in his house where he keeps all of his poisonous pets together. anyone walking in might think they just walked into a wild jungle out of the blue. one filled with creatures capable of killing you within minutes.

➤ weirdly enough Ayaan likes polishing and manicuring his nails with the greatest care as if his life depends on them (jk im just exaggerating), he will frequently pick the polish on his nails or simply pick his nails in general if nervous or uncomfortable or even flustered. at least the remaining ones that is. Ayaan is missing 4 nails on his left hand including his thumb, then 2 nails on his right hand, courtesy of the kidnappers. he greatly cherishes his remaining nails. and is therefore always seen wearing black gloves no matter the circumstances. wouldn't wanna scare people off yknow.

➤ for some reason, Ayaan attracts the attention of animals, especially this one time when he and keaton (when they were still alive) chose to explore one of their bases in rome instead of riding in a cab, and he petted a cat he found by chance on the streets and the next thing he knew he became their new god

➤ "he killed me. Father just killed me."

➤ "i feel like i did a really good job, so you should give me overtime compensation and an extra long vacation"

➤ ”ah someone died here? no biggy, i come from varanasi afterall, the city where the world comes to die.”

➤ "i used to have this creed, if you can't trust them, don't use them. if you're gonna use them, trust them."

➤ he is a very llight sleeper. even the lightest creak of a door swinging in the wind is enough to wake him up immediately. therefore seeing him sleep deprived and drinking an unholy concoction of monster drink with vodka and iced coffee isn't uncommon. very rarely will one ever find him heavily asleep.

➤ despite his dyslexia, Ayaan loves reading books, newspapers, magazines and literary works of any kind. he usually prefers to read nonfictional works like autobiographies, even instruction manuals over fictional works because they expose him to more vibrant and useful words, plus providing insight on different real-life events and experiences. sometimes he may read a realistic fiction or two, but that's only if he finds nothing else to read. he’ll usually read them for an hour or two everyday inorder to keep his mind fresh with the knowledge. his favourite book is ‘daughters of the samurai; a journal from east to west and back’.

➤ Ayaan was once addicted to marijuana and smoking, but slowly he got rid of his unhealthy addiction. however he still smokes, although not as bad as he used to. however there are times when he's so stressed that Ayaan will start reverting back to his past self and smoke as many as three packets all at once in a single day. it's surprising how his lungs haven't collapsed yet.

➤ thinks very lowly of people, especially politicians. imagine his surprise and horrow when he was assigned to one. he planned to quit the job for a second there but hesitatingly agreed to the job fot some reason. hmmm…

➤ although he's more of a non violent person (if speaking and humiliating people into submission is anything but), Ayaan won't hesitate to throw hands if he wants to. he's skilled in krav maga, taekwondo and muay thai, courtesy of his father. he will beat the shitz outta you, then mock you by going "why you weak? huh why do weak?"

➤ has an especially soft spot for scalpels and sniper rifles. although he isn't partial towards pick axes and haandguns either.

➤ will look into the eyes, call you the ugliest piece of disgusting wet stale dough then walk away nonchalantly as if he just said that potato chips are made from potatoes.

➤ oranges are his favourite fruits. not because he actually likes it but because he can spray the citric acid in its peel on the eyes of any unfortunate fool who dares invade his personal space.

➤ personality wise, he can be described by the following words. Sophisticated. Quiet. Listless. Calm. Sadistic. Workaholic. Generous. Determined. Dense. Volatile. Sensitive. Ill tempered. Self destructive. (das a lotta worse tho)

➤ has shown multiple signs of psychopathy in the past despite not being a psychopath, including his apparent lack of empathy for those around him and his balant disregard of law. literally he doesn't even bother to remember people's names and only calls them as 'you'. only remembers Nadia's and Ailbhe's name.

➤ as a reciprosexual, Ayaan has never really formed any kind of strong relationship with anyone so far. not even his own family members. he thinks dealing with people is annoying already, and having a significant other isn't even in his list of to-do's before death. therefore he is quite dense. no scratch that, he's so dense light bounces away from him. every time someone tries to flirt with Ayaan or express their feelings for him :

➤ as a child (and adult) Ayaan suffers from an undiagnosed reactive attachment disorder. “a condition in which a child is unable to establish healthy attachment with parental figures or primary caregivers. [...] children with RAD have been so disrupted in early life that their future relationships are also impaired. they may experience difficulty relating to others and are often developmentally delayed.” [source : helpguide.org]

➤ can be VERY VERY petty and vengeful depending on the circumstances. he likes to return the pain back 10 fold worse to those who are unfortunate enough to piss him off.

➤ likes to talk about adult stuff in a pretty anatomically scientific sense. especially about kinks, sex and etc. even though he isn't kinky at all (or is it) he has QUITE the knowledge on it and several more forbidden stuff.

➤ he is NOT a kid friendly person. if a kid were to ask him a question like "how are children made?" he'll gladly give the child a detailed explanation about how sex works and how babies are actually made. mothers especially dislike him. he wonders why, seeing no wrong in it.

➤ can swear like a sailor. and he can rapidly change his cuss words from english to hindi to french within the span of a sentence. and he doesn't give a shit about what others think about him.

➤ one of his biggest pet peeves is people eating his food. he doesnt mind sharing his food with others, but isn't it a common courtesy for people to ask permission before they eat your food? apparently not, and this ticks off Ayaan to no ends. he’ll gladly buy you another meal if you are so hungry, but please don't touch his food without his permission. maybe if you ask nicely he may be willing to share some with you tho

What book are you currently reading? Currently nothing, although I am reading a random chapter of คู่มือมนุษย์ (Hand Book for Man Kind) by Ajahn Buddhadasa every other day to cut through the bullshit and understand my religious practice better.

What’s your favourite movie you saw in theatres this year? So far, Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse, for obvious reasons. 2022 is still the better year though. We have 6 months left. Waiting for a one-up.

What’s something you’d like to create content for? I've recently been watching some really good Indian movies, and want to create gifs for those. I especially want to gif more scenes from RRR and 3 Idiots.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with? Besides my usual fandoms and Indian cinema, nail care. Just bought a whole nail kit last week and learned how to remove gel polish on my own.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year? My educational program. Honestly I should not be paying this much for this quality of teaching.

I’m so glad you love herrrrr 🥺💜 I’m sure she’d love you too!! You could talk metal and you could convince her to let go of her snobby horror opinions and see the trashy glory of 80s horror movies. I believe in u I believe u could do it.

2. What’s their favorite flavor? (Spicy, sweet, sour, etc.)

Roxy knows it’s stereotypical as hell but she does love spicy food. She grew up eating a lot of Indian, and it just brings her comfort. And if it’s the right kind of spiciness and the right kind of flavors, it can remind her of better times with her family before everything went to shit.

13. Do they have a favorite scent or smell?

A very specific brand of vanilla-scented shampoo that her sister used to use. Again, it reminds her of better times.

24. Do they enjoy music? What kind?

HELL YEAH SHE ENJOYS MUSIC. Mostly diff metal genres, but also a good dose of goth and punk music as well. She doesn’t have Slipknot and Cradle of Filth tattoos for nothing.

33. Do they paint their nails?

Not often. She tends to pick at the nail polish without meaning to. But she will for special occasions, if she can be damned.

42. Are they satisfied with their occupation or do they long to do something else?

Roxy isn’t specifically dissatisfied with her occupation. She’s a nurse, she likes being able to help people, and it makes good money. But it can be fucking stressful sometimes, and it can be long. And she’s dissatisfied with her life and the way things are in general, so that probably does bleed into some dissatisfaction with her job too.

It makes me sad/mad that people who did Lit in their gcses/A level had to not only read sexist books where men were the main focus and violence on women was normal, but had to sit through hundreds of lectures dissecting and calling female characters whores and painting them as the villain. Like it genuinely upsets me because when I did my gcses, I'm so glad that the book choices were far far better. I did The Namesake and two plays, Journey's End and Death and the king's horseman - all which were incredibly diverse (one's about Indian immigration and cultural crisis, the other's about war/relationship and the last one's about duty and colonization.)

And the poems we did had so many feminist theme and female writers - Like a poem I vividly remember was 'Now let no charitable hope' about gender inequality and 'Forsaken wife', a poem where a woman calls out her husband for cheating (seriously check her out, the poem was super super bad ass). So, every time I here about young girls having bad experience with Lit, it makes me so sad because these girls deserved better. They deserved better than having to sit through their teachers calling that one characters wife a whore because she wore red nail polish or something. There are so many great female writers that should and can be included instead of same old sexist books. (Plus, I'm so glad I had a great female teacher!)
