“The prime minister misled the country by saying that no one has entered our territory.” AIMIM chief Owaisi
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi once again hit out at the centre on Monday for not holding debate in the parliament over the recent skirmish between Indian and Chinese soldiers along the Line of Actual Control or LAC in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang. He alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “misled the country by saying that no one has entered our territory”.
He said that the Indian Army is very courageous and it is the Government, Prime Minister which is weak and scared of China.
“The prime minister misled the country by saying that no one has entered our territory. There are satellite images that show that Chinese soldiers have occupied Depsang and Demchok. They will continue to grab our land yet the trade imbalance with them will continue?” ANI quoted Owaisi as saying.
He demanded an all-party meet or a debate in the parliament and said, "The government should tell us what decision it is taking on China. If the government shows political leadership, then the entire country will support them. The army is very powerful but the government is very weak and is scared of China.”
He also said that the centre is foul playing and has kept the countrymen and the opposition in the dark about the situation at the border.
"The Modi government has kept the people and the Parliament in the dark. Why is it scared of the truth about China coming out? What is Modi's interest in hiding the facts about Chinese aggression?" tweeted Owaisi and attached a snippet of a news article regarding "Chinese aggression" along the LAC in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Impact of Geopolitical Tensions on Asia Pacific Defense Strategies
In recent years, geopolitical tensions have significantly shaped the defense strategies of various nations within the Asia Pacific region. Countries like China, Japan, South Korea, India, and Australia are at the forefront of adjusting their military policies to address regional and global security concerns. With the rise of strategic alliances, territorial disputes, and the increasing influence of superpowers, Asia Pacific Defense news has become a critical source for understanding the shifts in military tactics and defense planning.
Key Drivers of Geopolitical Tensions in Asia Pacific
One of the most notable geopolitical flashpoints is the South China Sea dispute. Several countries, including China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia, claim territorial rights over this resource-rich area. China’s assertive expansion, including the militarization of artificial islands, has raised alarms among neighboring countries and allies like the United States. The ongoing standoff has driven countries in the region to re-evaluate their defense capabilities, leading to a surge in defense spending and strategic partnerships.
Another key factor is the growing rivalry between the U.S. and China. As these two superpowers vie for influence, smaller Asia Pacific nations are increasingly caught in the middle. Defense news from the Asia Pacific frequently highlights how nations are navigating this tension, balancing economic ties with China while maintaining security alliances with the U.S.
Shifts in Defense Strategies
In response to these evolving threats, Asia Pacific countries have been updating their military strategies. According to the latest Asia Pacific Defense news, many countries are boosting their defense budgets and enhancing their capabilities in cyber defense, missile technology, and maritime security. For example, Japan has shifted from a purely defensive posture to a more proactive strategy, increasing cooperation with the U.S. and other allies.
India, too, has bolstered its naval forces and expanded defense cooperation with countries like Australia and Japan through platforms like the Quad Alliance. This shift is partly a response to China's growing naval presence in the Indian Ocean.
Strengthening Alliances
The rise in geopolitical tensions has also led to strengthened military alliances across the region. Key players like Japan, Australia, and India are forming new partnerships, both bilaterally and multilaterally, to counterbalance the influence of China and ensure regional security. Defense agreements, joint exercises, and intelligence-sharing initiatives are becoming more frequent, as highlighted by the latest Asia Pacific Defense news reports.
For instance, Australia’s participation in the AUKUS (Australia-United Kingdom-United States) pact has sparked discussions about the strategic pivot to counter China's influence in the Indo-Pacific. This has been seen as a major step in reinforcing Australia's long-term defense strategy.
Future Outlook
As geopolitical tensions continue to rise, Asia Pacific Defense news will remain a vital resource for tracking how nations in the region adapt their defense strategies. The balance of power in the Asia Pacific is constantly shifting, and countries are working to ensure they are prepared for any future conflicts or security challenges. In the coming years, defense collaborations, technological advancements, and strategic realignments will likely dominate the headlines, with an increasing focus on maintaining stability and security in one of the most dynamic regions in the world.

Australia Cancels Quad Summit After Biden Calls Off Trip Amid Debt Crisis
The US president -- who flies to Japan on Wednesday for a G7 summit -- scrapped subsequent stops in Papua New Guinea and Australia, instead returning to Washington on Sunday.
Tumblr media
Washington, United States: Joe Biden and opposition Republican leaders on Tuesday offered hope of a deal that could avoid a catastrophic US debt default, although the president was forced to shorten an upcoming Asia-Pacific tour for further crisis talks.
After the latest negotiations ended without a breakthrough, Republican House speaker Kevin McCarthy told reporters there was still “a lot of work to do” to break the high-stakes standoff with Democrat Biden over the borrowing limit.
But while stark differences remained, the White House said Biden was “optimistic that there is a path to a responsible, bipartisan budget agreement if both sides negotiate in good faith.”
And McCarthy likewise indicated he ultimately expected a deal, even if so far “nothing has been resolved.”
“America is the number one economy in the world. And when we get done with these negotiations, America’s economy is going to be stronger,” he said.
The US president — who flies to Japan on Wednesday for a G7 summit — scrapped subsequent stops in Papua New Guinea and Australia, instead returning to Washington on Sunday.
In Sydney, Biden was meant to meet the leaders of Japan, India and Australia as part of a “Quad” grouping widely seen as a counter to China.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Quad talks would instead take place in Japan.
The Treasury has warned of grim consequences if the country runs out of cash to pay its bills, which would leave it unable to pay federal workers and trigger a likely surge in interest rates with knock-on effects for businesses, mortgages — and global markets.
The United States could begin defaulting on its debts “potentially as early as June 1,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Monday, while the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has forecast June 15.
‘Potentially devastating’
The White House said Biden had directed his staff “to continue to meet daily on outstanding issues,” and that he would confer with Republican leaders on his return from the G7 meetings.
Republicans have continued to insist Biden agree to significant spending cuts in exchange for their support to raise the debt ceiling, ignoring Democratic calls for a “clean” increase of the borrowing limit with no strings attached.
Democrats have accused Republicans of using extreme tactics to push their agenda ahead of the so-called “X-date” at which the United States starts defaulting on its debts.
In a sign of growing nervousness over what would be the first ever US debt default, more than 140 top US chief executives sent a letter to Biden and congressional leaders stressing the need for an agreement.
“We strongly urge that an accord be reached quickly so that the country can avert this potentially devastating scenario,” the letter signed by the CEOs from Pfizer and Morgan Stanley, among others, said.
Breaking the stalemate
Republicans, who regained control of the House in the 2022 midterm elections, are using their newfound clout to demand cuts of $130 billion from federal agencies and programs in exchange for support for lifting the debt ceiling.
This would limit spending in the 2024 fiscal year to 2022 levels.
They also want to expedite domestic energy production projects, simplify the process for obtaining permits for pipelines and refineries and claw back unspent Covid relief funding.
There are now only three days remaining when the House and Senate are both in session before June 1 — the day the Treasury predicts the United States could run out of money.
Some senators have acknowledged that they may have to cancel the Memorial Day recess beginning Thursday to get a deal finalized.
As the X-date draws closer, Democrats in Congress have begun considering a range of alternatives, including using an arcane congressional procedure to bypass McCarthy.
They’ve also contemplated asking Biden to invoke the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally, which some legal scholars believe would allow the Treasury to simply ignore the debt limit.
But Biden has cautioned that such a move could be challenged in court, and has continued to call publicly for Republicans to support a clean increase to the debt ceiling.

Galwan-Tawang and the Way Forward
The latest on poliphoon.com: "Galwan-Tawang and the Way Forward." Galwan was a pathetic provocation. Tawang is no less. As China gets desperate for Indian territory, a repeat of 1962 looks likely. What should be India’s strategy now? https://poliphoon.com/galwan-tawang-and-the-way-forward/
China’s military showdowns on Indian border are not new. The last one was in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley in June 2020. Now, in Yangtse area of Tawang sector in India’s Arunachal Pradesh on 9 December. This is a wakeup call, too loud to ignore. China’s repeated military adventurism does not portend well for dragon-tiger ties and peace in the region. Continual standoffs between Chinese and Indian forces…

China doing “ridiculous exercise” to support “untenable claims” says MEA spokesperson
On Thursday, India reacted to the recent actions of China and sad that naming the places in Arunanchal Pradesh was a “ridiculous exercise”. The statement further read that it was an exercise to support “untenable claims” also the letters written to the Indian MPs to attend the Tibet event was inappropriate in terms of “tone, tenor and substance”. Finally, it concluded that the lake being constructed over Pangong Lake is in in areas under “illegal occupation by China”.
All the above comments were made by an official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs during a virtual briefing on Thursday.
Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs answered a range of questions. When asked about renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh he said, “We had seen reports of the Chinese side naming some places in Arunachal Pradesh last week. At that time, we had conveyed our views on such a ridiculous exercise to support untenable territorial claims.”
He further added that “calling Tuting as “DouDeng” or River Siyom as “XiYueMu” or Kibithu as “Daba” does not alter the fact that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will always remain an inalienable part of India.”
“We hope that instead of engaging in such antics, China will work constructively with us to resolve the outstanding friction points in areas along the Western Sector of the LAC in India-China border areas,” Bagchi added.
