Day 2 of All India Secretaries Conference on Water Vision@2047-Way Ahead concludes with the vow to strengthen water security

Mahabalipuram: The ‘All India Secretaries’ conference on ‘Water Vision@2047-Way Ahead’ concluded on Wednesday at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, with a primary focus on reinforcing the nation’s water security. The two-day event saw participation from 32 states and Union Territories, with 30 secretaries and over 300 delegates actively contributing to the discussions.

The conference addressed the 22 recommendations put forth during the ‘1st All India Annual State Ministers Conference on Water’ held in January 2023 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. These recommendations emphasised prioritising drinking water, climate resilience, efficient water utilisation, water storage, technology application, interlinking rivers, flood management, and enhanced people’s participation.

Divided into five thematic sessions, the first day covered topics such as Climate Resilience & River Health and Water Governance. Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, chaired a ministerial session, stressing the importance of collaboration and innovation for sustainable water management. He also reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen the Centre-state partnership for water security goals.

A Bid to Reap Control of Indian Agriculture

For some critics, if one firm tops a league table for anti-people, anti-nature business practices, it is Bayer (although there are many other worthy candidates).

Nevertheless, the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) signed a memorandum of understanding with Bayer in September 2023.

Bayer’s approach to agricultural development involves promoting a model of industrial agriculture dependent on corporate products, including its toxic chemicals and genetically modified crops, and advocating for precision, data-driven agriculture that relies heavily on its proprietary technologies and software. 

Simon Wiebusch, Country Divisional Head of Crop Science for Bayer South Asia, recently stated that India cannot become a ‘developed nation’ with ‘backward’ agriculture. He believes India’s agriculture sector must modernise for the country to achieve developed nation status by 2047.

Bayer’s vision for agriculture in India includes prioritising and fast-tracking approvals for its new products, introducing genetically modified (GM) food crops, addressing labour shortages (for weeding) by increasingly focusing on herbicides and developing herbicides for specific crops like paddy, wheat, sugarcane and maize.

Government institutions like the ICAR seem likely to allow Bayer to leverage the agency’s infrastructure and networks to pursue its commercial plans.

Wiebusch’s comments have received much media coverage. There is a tendency for journalists and media outlets to accept statements made by people in top corporate jobs as pearls of wisdom never to be critically questioned, especially in India when there is talk of the country achieving ‘developed status’. But people like Wiebusch are hardly objective. They are not soothsayers who have an unbiased view of the world and its future.

डॉ. अलका निवेदन ने मुख्य अतिथि श्री मुकेश शर्मा जी को पुष्प गुच्छ, प्रतीक चिन्ह तथा  परम आदरणीय श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी माननीय प्रधानमंत्री भारत की मुहिम "एक पेड़ मां के नाम" के अंतर्गत पौधा भेंट कर सम्मानित किया | डॉ संदीप बाजपेई ने हेल्प यू एजुकेशनल एंड चैरिटेबल ट्रस्ट के प्रबंध न्यासी, श्री हर्षवर्धन अग्रवाल जी को पौधा भेंट कर सम्मानित किया ।

श्री मुकेश शर्मा ने सभागार में उपस्थित सभी छात्राओं को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि, “वर्तमान समय में हमारे देश की बागडोर बहुत ही ऊर्जावान और लोकप्रिय प्रधानमंत्री परम आदरणीय श्री नरेंद्र मोदी जी के हाथ में हैं और यह हम सबके लिए बहुत गर्व की बात है | 2047 में भारतवर्ष की आजादी के 100 वर्ष पूर्ण हो जाएंगे और हमारे माननीय प्रधानमंत्री वर्ष 2047 तक भारत देश को एक विकसित देश के रूप में देखना चाहते हैं जिसके लिए उन्होंने "India Vision 2047" मुहिम की शुरुआत की है | किसी राष्ट्र की ताकत और जीवन शक्ति उसके युवाओं के हाथों में होती है । देश के युवा सकारात्मक परिवर्तन के अग्रदूत हैं क्योंकि उनमें बेहतर भविष्य को आकार देने के लिए आवश्यक ऊर्जा, उत्साह और रचनात्मकता होती है | कोई भी काम खाली सरकार नहीं कर सकती जब तक सबका योगदान न हो | आज भारत के ओजस्वी एवं यशस्वी प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी जी के दूरदर्शी, सशक्त एवं कुशल नेतृत्व में देश के  युवाओं को एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभानी है । 21वीं सदी भारत की सदी होगी क्योंकि देश अपनी क्षमताओं के प्रति आश्वस्त होकर भविष्य की ओर तीव्रता से अग्रसर है । यह आज दुनिया की 5वीं सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था है और 2027 तक दुनिया की तीसरी सबसे बड़ी अर्थव्यवस्था होगी, क्योंकि आईएमएफ के अनुमान के मुताबिक इसकी जीडीपी 5 ट्रिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर को पार कर जाएगी । वर्ष 2047 तक, भारत एक विकसित राष्ट्र की सभी विशेषताओं के साथ 30 ट्रिलियन अमेरिकी डॉलर की अर्थव्यवस्था बनने की ओर अग्रसर है । यह एक विकसित भारत होगा, जिसके लिए हमारे युवाओं को महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभानी होगी ।"
