I’m gonna make a master post of all the ways Amazon Prime has proven they never watched The Tick and WANTED it to fail via shitty promotion.
Let me preface this by saying the CEO in charge of Prime Video who greenlit The Tick and was supportive of it was fired before Season 2 was even greenlit. The new CEO then cancelled every developing pilot and show that first guy had greenlit, so everyone was worried he’d cancel the Tick back then but he didn’t. He let season 2 happen. Season 2 got way better reviews than season 1, but that doesn’t seem to matter. I don’t  think this new guy even watched it or has any stake in it. He only wants his own shows to do well.
So let’s look at this Amazon Fire ad that cross promotes The Tick season 1 first because it’s  been plaguing me for years.
youtube
1) You’re cross promoting a show, but you’re making it look like women hate it on sight SO BADLY that the’re willing to leap off the couch rather than sit and give it a chance.
2) The only selling point her friend gives is that the actor completely covered in foam padding is attractive, British, and wearing tight clothes– which are again covered in foam padding and his character doesn’t have his British accent so how is that a selling point.
3) They’re not even watching the show, they’re watching an ad.
4) The show has amazing writing, and is hella funny and silly, which is not acknowledged. You know nothing about the show from this ad.
5) No one in it’s whole 2 seasons you allowed it, has sex, but you’re selling it on it’s sex appeal?
6) This came out in 2017 but in hindsight I don’t think a single network exec bothered to watch this show, so of course they had no idea how to sell it. It got AMAZING reviews for season2 and they cancelled it right away because they didn’t know wtf they had. So sad #SaveTheTick
Again, that was an old ad, but it does show how Amazon is completely incompetent at promoting this show. Back when the show was just a pilot and they were developing the first season, Amazon held a contest called #TICKSAVEMYCITY Now I don’t want to assume they rigged it or something, but I can only find about 3 entries to this contest, which are the top 3 finalists. All 3 of them sound like they know how to talk in front of a camera. Like they have background in stage performance or commercial acting in some way. You judge for yourself.
Contestant 1 Contestant 2 Contestant 3
Here’s the video of the winner getting help for his charity case and I can’t for the life of me figure out what website he claims he found out about the contest on... TONKLE DOT COM?? Wtf is that... I just...? Tongle? Ok I looked in the description and it’s “ Tongal “
youtube
Have you ever in your life heard of  Tongal.com ? It sounds interesting in theory, a website for people who create stuff-- why is that where the massive website AMAZON DOT COM choses to advertise? It boasts 160,000 users. That’s not even a half million. This was a cool idea. I like the cute Tick hats for all the kids but if you haven’t noticed yet, the font they chose for this show is SO FUCKING BORING. White shirts with boring black font. This has been a problem with the marketing team since the show’s inception that never really went away. Even signs at comic con used this shitty visual it looks like it is just basic instructions not a show advertisement. Still it’s nice to know somewhere in Charlotte, North Carolina there is a refugee center with giant Tick antennas painted on the wall for some cancelled streaming show on Amazon Prime.
Tumblr media
EMBRACE YOUR DESTINY NC REFUGEES! TICK HAS EMBRACED HIS, THAT HE IS DOOMED TO BE CANCELLED BY AMAZON’S SHITTY MARKETING TEAM!
They tried to not even have a panel for the upcoming season 2 at comic con, then they tried to squeeze one in to a tiny room before allowing a larger one last minute. It was becoming obvious that they were setting up season 2 for failure. The Dangerboat Experience at comic con promoting season 1, was the biggest and best booth at comic con that year [2017 I believe]. Season 2 comes around and suddenly nothing.
They only seemed to promote season 2 at conventions and a few of the largest cities in the USA, and no where else. As a result, even though season 2 got a 100% critic rating, which is fucking unheard of, and a 97% audience score, which is also rare, it's possible the show didn't get as many eyeballs this season as it should have-- because no one knew season 2 had dropped!
The star of the show took to the internet asking if anyone would like to interview him-- because Amazon did not send him out to do press in promotion of season 2. He had to do it on his own time and on his own dime. Because he gives a shit about the show doing well. In fact most of the show’s actors have been very vocal about caring about this show and worrying over it.
And then Amazon cancelled it, without giving any explanation. I assume the excuse is that not enough people saw it or are talking about it-- which is by design. They did the bare minimum in getting the word out, because they never watched the show and didn’t care that it was critically acclaimed or well liked. The cancellation had to be announced through Tick’s creator on twitter, because Amazon certainly isn't going to tell you about it. And thankfully, there's a chance to #SaveTheTick , he is allowed the opportunity to bring the show to another network. Fantastic- but it needs fan support. Who wants a show no one is talking about? Why was no one talking about it? THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW SEASON 2 DROPPED LET ALONE THAT IT WAS CANCELED RIGHT AFTER because no Amazon promotion.
So again the actors saved the day by running to reddit, podcasts, twitter, instagram, even 4Chan of all places just to let people know how they can help #SaveTheTick and it's working [I can’t specify what I know but I hear good things], suddenly there's a huge influx of fans tweeting about it. Because the show is ACTUALLY GOOD. And if you just promote it a little, people will watch it and realize that it's worth saving. The actor who plays Frank of the Pyramid Gang, in particular had a big hand in this influx of eyeballs. He campaigns for the show day and night across every platform he can, I believe he even made the subreddit about the cancellation and how to help save the show. He even joined our fan Discord and I kinda coached him through how to post on 4Chan  when he suddenly jumped on there, until about 2am when the board banned him because he was technically advertising. [Oops, lesson learned]
We have tweets from celebrities and verious Twitter blue checkmark holders including Mark Hamill, Misha Collins, even Guillermo Del Toro  showing the support this show and asking people to #SaveTheTick . So now we’re all tweeting day and night for at least another week or so to show that we do care, there is a lot of us, and we will follow this show to whatever channel will accept it.
There is even a fan created petition directed at Netflix to pick up the show, as I’m typing this it’s at 4,709+ signatures but it’s climbing all the time. https://www.change.org/p/netflix-save-the-tick
I just hope enough people give it a chance that it looks good enough to be picked up by somebody. And I hope whatever network that is is accessible enough that it will continue to have eyeballs on it for more seasons to come.
*~**~*~ Now it’s the fan’s turn to promote the show. Word of mouth, social media, please do whatever you can, WE ARE HELPING I promise! ~**~*~*

Predictions for the 90th Academy Awards
Tumblr media
Nothing takes the sting out of these tough economic times like watching a bunch of millionaires giving golden statues to each other"- Billy Crystal, 2012 host
The Oscars are an enigmatic ceremony. In its simplest form, it’s a group of celebrities all patting themselves on the back for their various film achievements during the year. The majority of these celebrated films are often movies that mainstream audiences have neither watched (certainly not watched at the time of the Oscars) nor have any intention of watching. This, coupled with the derision usually aimed at the perceived self importance of the awards, makes it quite surprising how much attention is still paid to the ceremony. People still care who wins, people still want to know what happened during the almost 3-hour ceremony. The term “Academy Award winner” still commands a level of widespread respect, even to the person who has “Transformers: The Last Knight” as his best film of 2017.
So in anticipation of this year’s 90th Academy awards, I assembled a panel of other like-minded weirdos, Afolabi Adekaiyaoja, Chika Akachukwu and Obiora Ifeacho (all my female friends have lives so won’t waste their time watching the Oscars at 3a.m),and we discussed our reactions to this year’s nominees, who we want to win and who we believe will eventually take home the awards come March 4th.
POPCORN FOR DINNER: OKAY, LET’S START OFF WITH THE BIG ONE. THE “DRUMROLL AWARD”. WHO WINS BEST PICTURE?
Bankole Imoukhuede: This is the only category I will comment on. I think it’s such a shame Get Out isn’t the frontrunner at the moment. I do think it was the best movie this year and it’s a shame it doesn’t look like winning.
SHOULD WIN: Get Out
WILL WIN: The Shape of Water
Afolabi Adekaiyaoja: It is in years like this that I wish the Academy had stuck to their 5 nominees for this category. In that scenario, we don’t get so many filler movies. I think it is down to The Shape Of Water or Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. I prefer Three Billboards for its storytelling and simple character tales.
SHOULD WIN: Get Out
WILL WIN: Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri
Obiora Ifeacho: I’m hoping that the Academy bucks its trend of being unfavourable to horror and comedy films, and gives Get Out the win. Don’t think it will though.
SHOULD WIN: Get Out
WILL WIN: The Shape of Water
Chika Akachukwu: I was actually (pleasantly) surprised Get Out got nominated. It might have just been a peace offering from the Academy though, to show they aren’t prejudiced. *insert relevant Sunken Place joke*
SHOULD WIN: The Shape of Water (despite its weak attempt to pass off bestiality as cool and romantic)
WILL WIN:  Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri
Tumblr media
POPCORN FOR DINNER: THE ACTING CATEGORIES ALL SEEM PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD. RAPID FIRE. LEAD ACTOR
O.I: Gary Oldman (The Darkest Hour)
C.A: Yep, same
A.A: Yep, Oldman. Although I think Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) should win it.
POPCORN FOR DINNER: LEAD ACTRESS
O.I: Frances McDormand (Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri)
C.A: I really want Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) to win it but I think Frances McDormand wins it
A.A: Same. I think Sally Hawkins deserves to win it but its most likely going to Frances.
POPCORN FOR DINNER: SUPPORTING ACTOR
O.I: As Bill Simmons puts it, a “that guy” actor is an actor who you see everywhere but you don’t actually know his name and he never really has leading roles in successful films but you know him and appreciate his efforts knowing his time will soon come. Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri) was probably the greatest “that guy” actor of his generation. The award is firmly his. Sorry, that wasn’t quick fire lol.
C.A: Ditto. Loved Sam since Seven Psychopaths (Also written and directed by Martin McDonagh)
A.A: Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) started off as the favourite, Christopher Plummer (All The Money in the World) is a big middle finger at Kevin Spacey, Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) is conveniently riding the wave of The Shape of Water (apologies for the pun), even though Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water) turns in a far better performance and Woody Harrelson (Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri) is on for a little while but is naturally amazing. The only one left (Sam Rockwell) is the actor who really does make magic happen on screen and is just a delight to see.
Tumblr media
POPCORN FOR DINNER: SUPPORTING ACTRESS
O.I: While I think Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird) should win this, it seems to be another foregone conclusion. Allison Janney (I, Tonya)
C.A: She’s won every other award. Imagine if she didn’t win this one?
A.A: Allison Janney, although I would have preferred a debut win for Mary J. Blige (Mudbound)
POPCORN FOR DINNER: BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY.
O.I: This really comes down to Get Out, Lady Bird and The Shape of Water, in my opinion. I think The Shape of Water wins it but I’ll be rooting for Get Out or Lady Bird.
A.A: I think Get Out should and will win it.
POPCORN FOR DINNER: FINAL CATEGORY. DIRECTOR.
Tumblr media
Bankole Imoukhuede: Okay, I know I said that Best Picture was the only category I would give an input in but I am so annoyed Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk) isn’t winning this. Dunkirk in the cinema, in IMAX, was such an experience. I have absolutely nothing against Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water) but I really wish Nolan was winning this.
A.A: Same. I think Nolan should win this. None of the other nominees, in my opinion, pushed the limits of the cinema experience while combining all the other aspects of moviemaking into a truly riveting and remarkable production, like he did with Dunkirk. It’s probably going to Del Toro though.
O.I: Christopher Nolan has found a way for production companies to fund his movies without relying on previous original material which is great. Very difficult to be commercially and critically successful in this day and age. Proper visual storytelling masterpiece. Del Toro wins it though.
C.A: Christopher Nolan could make a movie about anything and I’ll be game for it. The man gave us The Dark Knight. Not to mention, Bane impressions.
POPCORN FOR DINNER: OKAY, A COUPLE MORE QUESTIONS TO ROUND THIS OUT. WHAT WERE YOUR SNUBS AND OSCAR BAIT FLOPS THIS YEAR?
Tumblr media
B.I: Snubs. Probably Franco (The Disaster Artist) (although with good reason). Oscar bait flop of the year would have to be Surburbicon. A period piece written by the Coen Brothers and George Clooney, including a true story subplot that reflects our current societal issues, directed by Clooney and starring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaacs doesn’t get a single nomination? Has to be the flop of the year.
C.A: There’s nothing I love more than simplicity and nothing I hate more than overcrowded stuffed casts. Hence, my vote has to be The Post. Sure, it got an obligatory Oscar nomination for Meryl Streep and a consolation best picture nomination but it was definitely shooting for bigger targets. I don’t want to see that many stars in one movie. It just screamed “Oscars” to me.
A.A: That’s funny because Tom Hanks (The Post) is one of my snubs, the other being Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri). My Oscar bait flop has to be The Greatest Showman. It was a musical written by Oscar-winning songwriters (check), had a big name star (check) and a romantic subplot (check). I’m pretty sure someone expected this to be the next Chicago. It sucks because I really love Hugh Jackman and think the basis- PT Barnum is a riveting tale. Still, it got nearly shut out.
O.I: My big snub is Armie Hammer (Call Me by Your Name). Others were Robert Pattinson (Good Time), Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me by Your Name and The Shape of Water) and Tifanny Haddish (Girls Trip). I have to go for The Post for my flop too. Was never a fan from the moment it was announced last year
POPCORN FOR DINNER: WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE OSCARS’ MOMENT
O.I: Roberto Benigni winning Best Foreign Language film. How can you not be happy for Roberto Benigni when the Italian actor-director stood on top of his chair, waving at anybody and everybody, as he was walking across the seats to accept his award for Life is Beautiful? I mean, even Steven Spielberg was helping him on his way!
youtube
A.A: Knowing that everyone on my TL and circle expected Boyhood to win, hearing Sean Penn remark about a guy’s green card and realising it was Birdman in the split second before he confirmed it…amazing. It was a great reward for an amazing movie, great concept and wonderful execution.
youtube
B.I: Mine has to be Lupita’s acceptance speech for Best Actress in a Supporting role for 12 years a Slave. “No matter where you are from, your dreams are valid”. If that ain’t a clarion call to get creative, I don’t know what is.
youtube
C.A: “Hold on imma let you finish but Moonlight had the best picture award this year, La La Land”. (This is how it played out in my head last year)
youtube
POPCORN FOR DINNER: Parting words?
A.A.: And the nominees for now overdue Oscar win are: Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Michael Shannon, Joaquin Phoenix and Jessica Chastain…and the next one off is…
B.I: In a world where Logan got a (deserved) adapted screenplay nomination, I’m speaking it into existence that I believe, with the right campaign, Black Panther can nab at least one of a Supporting Actor, Director, Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture nomination.
O.I: GIVE ROGER DEAKINS HIS FUCKING OSCAR ALREADY

'Get Out' tops the Independent Spirit Awards: Could an Oscar upset be next?
Tumblr media
Actor/writer/director Jordan Peele (C) accepts the prize for best feature for ‘Get Out’ at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica — on the eve of the Oscars (AFP Photo/Tommaso Boddi)
The love was spread around at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards, with critical darlings like Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird, Call Me by Your Name, Mudbound, I, Tonya, and The Big Sick all getting some time to shine Saturday afternoon on the sands of Santa Monica.
It was Get Out, though, Jordan Peele’s blockbuster social thriller, that reigned supreme, winning Best Feature and Best Director. (Given the Blumhouse-produced, Universal-distributed horror film’s $176 million haul, it’s easy to forget that the film was made for a mere $4 million).
This could possibly spell the start of special weekend for Get Out. The last four films to win Best Film at the Indie Spirit Awards on Saturday (Moonlight, Spotlight, Birdman, and 12 Years a Slave) have all gone on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
The film remains an underdog to The Shape of Water and Three Billboards, both Fox Searchlight releases that were Spirit-eligible but left out of the top race. Billboards did still triumph in two of the acting races, with Oscar favorites Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell winning Best Female Lead and Best Supporting Male, respectively. Guillermo del Toro’s Shape, which narrowly qualified for consideration with a budget of $19.4 million, didn’t receive a single nomination.
The famously wry and attention-shy McDormand provided one of the ceremony’s most memorable speeches, staying true to her character of Mildred Hayes by dropping f-bombs left and right. “I continue to be amazed that you let me get in front of a microphone,” said McDormand, whose wins so far this year include the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Critics Choice Awards. The actress enjoyed the fact that the IFC-telecast show, unlike the Oscars, did not discourage profanity. “Do you know how hard it’s been not to swear? This awards convention goes on for f–king ever.”
The day’s other big winners included Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name) for Best Male Lead and Allison Janney (I, Tonya) for Best Supporting Female. While Janney is expected to repeat tomorrow, Chalamet enjoyed his time in the spotlight (“I’m trying to really savor this moment, I don’t know if this kind of thing’s ever gonna happen again”) knowing the Oscar will likely go to the heavily favorited Gary Oldman, whose $30 million Darkest Hour was ineligible for the Spirit Awards.
Hosted for a second consecutive year by comedy duo/BFFs Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, the show got off to an entertaining start with the comics taking sharp digs at a few of the #MeToo’s movements most high-profile accused, including Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner, and Kevin Spacey. Mulaney remember a time Weinstein told him the crossover success he’d have producing TV’s Project Runway would be reflected on his gravestone. “Now it’s not gonna say Project Runway, it’s going to say “XXL Unmarked Grave,'” Mulaney cracked.
Tumblr media

The typically spirited (and spirit-filled) ceremony, which is held annually under a giant tent near the Santa Monica pier, was forecasted to be an atypically rain-drenched affair. But the sun was in full force during the show’s pre-party, where nominees who’ve spent the last few months knocking elbows across Los Angeles awards events mingled one more time before Sunday’s Big Show. Directors Ava DuVernay and Sean Baker (a nominee for The Florida Project) shot the breeze feet from the likes of Peele and Lady Bird writer-director Greta Gerwig.
Gerwig pulled one of the day’s biggest upsets when she unseated Oscar favorite Peele in the Best Screenplay category. “Thank you to my parents for watching all the plays I put on in the living room,” Gerwig said. A pair of their competitors tomorrow, Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V Gordon, won for Best First Screenplay for their rom-com sleeper The Big Sick. “My father never cheated on my mother, that’s something we made up for the movie,” Gordon said, before Nanjiani quickly interjected: “That we know of.”
Mudbound writer-director Dee Rees delivered one of the day’s most stirring speeches while she and her cast accepted the honorary Robert Altman Award for best ensemble. Rees passionately and eloquently spoke of the power of cinema — and the power of Mudbound — in what most on-hand interpreted as a reaction to the film’s lack of major awards recognition because it played out on small screens across the country as a Netflix release.
The surprise hit Get Out has had no trouble burning up awards season. While accepting Best Director, presented by Spike Lee, Peele admitted he burned a few while writing the film. “I realized there were people who were locked up for smoking less weed than I was smoking writing the movie,” he said.
Fittingly, it was the current box office king, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who soon thereafter presented Get Out the day’s top honors. During a post-awards interview in the press tent, Peele discussed the possibility of a sequel. “If I can get a story that feels worthy as a follow-up we’ll do it, if not, then absolutely not.”
In the meantime we’ll see if Get Out repeats Sunday night at the Oscars.

Greta Gerwig can’t stop crying over Lady Bird's Oscar nominations
by Shirley Li, January 23, 2018.
source: http://ew.com/awards/2018/01/23/lady-bird-greta-gerwig-reaction-oscar-nominations/
It’s been hours since the Oscar nominations were announced, and Greta Gerwig can’t stop screaming. Or laughing. Or ugly-crying. (Out of happiness, of course.)
“I’ve been in various states of laughing and crying and yelling with joy, and you’re the next person I’m doing that to!” she laughs/cries/admits over the phone to EW of her morning-long “little head explosion.” “I apologize if I descend into something that doesn’t make any sense because I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it!”
“It” refers to how she has more than enough reasons to be bouncing off the walls, thanks to Tuesday morning’s unveiling of this year’s Oscar nominations: Her deeply personal solo directorial debut, the poignant coming-of-age tale Lady Bird, netted five nods, including best picture, best director, best original screenplay, best actress (for Saoirse Ronan), and best supporting actress (for Laurie Metcalf).
“I woke up at 3:30 in the morning and I was like, ‘Nope, it’s not time, you gotta go back to sleep,’ so I forced myself to go back to sleep, and then I woke up at 6:30 or 7, and I was like, ‘Ooooh, whatever happened has happened,’ so I’m going to make myself a cup of coffee and control my breathing and then look at my phone,” she recalls. “I did all that and I looked at my phone, and the first thing I saw was Saoirse’s best friend had sent me a video of Saoirse crying and laughing and being so happy, and I thought, ‘I don’t know what’s happened, but it looks good!'”
It certainly does. After all, Gerwig has not only nabbed her first Oscar nods, but the actor-writer-director also made history with her directing nomination. She’s the first female director to be nominated for an Academy Award in eight years (the previous nominee and eventual winner being Kathryn Bigelow, for The Hurt Locker in 2010), and the fifth female director ever to be nominated in Academy history.
Just thinking about that makes her, well, want to cry. “This is the crying portion of the conversation,” Gerwig warns. “There are so many great films this year, and to be included among them as a woman means so much… The women who have been filmmakers who are both my peers and the ones who have come before me have meant so much to me, and they’re the reason that I found the courage to do this. I remember when Sofia Coppola was nominated and how much that meant to me. I remember when Kathryn Bigelow won and what that felt like, and I feel like those women are the reason I was able to do this. When I think about it — and I think about women of all ages — I hope that they look at this and they think, ‘I’m going to go make my movie.'” She starts choking up. “I just keep feeling like I want more female storytellers and I want it quite selfishly because I want to see their stories. I want to watch their movies.”
Gerwig points out that she wouldn’t have felt comfortable making Lady Bird had she not seen how Rebecca Miller, who directed her in 2015’s Maggie’s Plan, pull off the feat. “It was something about watching her and watching her realize her movie that I thought, ‘It’s time, it’s time. Look at her! You can do this!'” she remembers. “And then, I don’t know, just, think of how many movies we haven’t seen, and think of how many more we’ll get to!” She laughs. “This is getting pretty f—ing emotional.”
At least she’s not the only one ugly-crying Tuesday morning. Her fellow best director nominee Jordan Peele, whose own directorial debut Get Out landed him on the Academy’s radar with four nominations, also tweeted about holding back tears — and Gerwig was quick to note how proud she is of Peele. “I just have to say, I’m so excited for Jordan! I feel like we kind of buddied up early — it’s his first film, it’s my first film,” she says. “He was one of the first people I called this morning. I was like, ‘Can you believe it?’ The idea of diversity in storytellers is so very important that I couldn’t be more honored to be in this category with these people. I mean, Jordan! Christopher Nolan! [Paul Thomas] Anderson! Guillermo del Toro?! I’m going to cry again.”
She probably will; after she hangs up, she’ll be meeting Lady Bird star Beanie Feldstein for breakfast in Los Angeles — the two had agreed to a meal on Tuesday morning “no matter what happens” — so Gerwig figures she’ll have at least one more crying session to go through before the day’s over. (Besides, “We gotta play ‘Crash Into Me’!” she notes.) For now, Gerwig’s just excited for the chance to celebrate with her cast and crew. “Everyone who worked on this movie poured so much into it. That [Best Picture] nomination is a recognition of all of them, and I wish I could get them all together and cry into their faces,” she says, laughing. “I just love movies so much. This is amazing.”

Toro’s Pinocchio Casts Tilda Swinton, Casts Cate Blanchett and More
Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning filmmaker, announced the cast of his upcoming project titled Pinocchio. The film will be launched with the releasing partner Netflix. Del Toro is an animation filmmaker, who directed DreamWorks features Kung Fu Panda 3 and Puss in Boots. Let’s find out all the casts of the film and when we will get to watch the next Toro’s masterpiece.
Guillermo del toro Gomez is a Mexican director, actor, author, and also a special effects makeup artist. He has won the Oscars for Best Picture for the film The Shape of Water in 2017 and Best Director for the film Pan’s Labyrinth in 2006. He created many incredible movies like Cronos in 1993, The Devil’s Backbone in 2001, Hellboy in 2004, Blade II in 2002, Pacific Rim in 2013, The Book of Life in 2014, The Hobbit film series in 2012-2014, and many more.
Toro co-authored the novel with Chuck Hogan titled The Strain trilogy in 2009-2011, later the novel was adapted into a comic-book series. He created an animated series named Trollhunters with DreamWorks Animation in 2016-2018. Toro’s beautiful visualization and strong characterization connect any genre be it fairy tales or horror. He had a long time fascination with monsters, which he describes as great powers. His works are known for his use of religious imagery. Toro is obsessed with fairy tales. He describes the fairy tales as two facets. One is pro-institution, which is the reprehensible type of fairy tale. And the other one is entirely anarchic and anti-establishment.
Pinocchio is an upcoming American animated dark-fantasy musical film directed and co-written by Toro. The story is based on the 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian novel written by named The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. The screenplay is written by del Toro, Patrick McHale, Gris Grimly, and Matthew Robbins. The film is produced by ShadowMachine and The Jim Henson Company and co-produced with Necropia Entertainment. The project was scheduled to be released in 2014, but the production took a lot of time, and hence it got delayed for so long. Now the film is finally rescheduled to be released on Netflix in 2021.
The plot of the movie is set during the rise of fascism in Mussolini’s Italy. Pinocchio is a love story and struggles to live up to his father’s expectations.
Guillermo del Toro announced that Pinocchio was his next project in 2008, and it is the darker adaptation of the Italian novel The Adventure of Pinocchio. He said that Pinocchio is his passion project, he also said that no other art had influenced him and his work more than animation. And also he has not personally connected with any other character rather than Pinocchio. Then in 2011 Mark Gustafson and Gris Grimly joined the team as co-director. The film will be produced under ShadowMachine has been declared in 2012. Patrick McHale announced that he is co-writing Pinocchio with del Toro on 23rd January 2017. In an interview with indieWire at 74th Venice International Film Festival, del Toro shared that they would require a budget of $35 million to make the film. However, on 22nd October 2018, it was announced that the film was revived with Netflix.
On 31st January 2020, the production team announced its voice-over cast. The cast involves Christopher Waltz, Ron Perlman, Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton, David Bradley, Tom Waits, Daniel Radcliffe, and Christopher Walken. Recently, in August 2020 some more cast joined in the team including Time Blake Nelson, Cate Blanchett, Gregory Mann, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, and Burn Gorman.
Toro shared that he found the perfect partner for pursuing his dream project at Netflix. He added that he and his team had spent a lot of time curating a remarkable crew and cast and is blessed for the continuous support for Netflix. And he also believed that Netflix would be the perfect medium to share his classic story in a new way.
The principal photography started last autumn in Poland at ShadowMachine’s studio. And the production is uninterrupted during the pandemic COVID-19. Del Toro and Patrick McHale are co-writing the script together. The music is by the Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat, and Katz and del Toro write the song lyrics. Saunders and Mackinnon build the puppets for the film. Pinocchio is produced by Jim Henson Company’s Lisa Henson, del Toro, Corey Campodonico, and ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley. The project is co-produced by Blanca Lista of the Jim Henson Company and Gris Grimly.
Del Toro’s Pinocchio will be closer to the book. The character would be as real as they are in the book. However, Toro is setting the whole plot in the 1930s during the Italian fascist regime. He is known for making innovative and dark movies. So this time Pinnochio will be an official spin.

Coming Attractions April 2019
Tumblr media
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released. These are the movies what will be hitting your local cinemas this month:
April 5th
Shazam! - I had the pleasure of seeing the newest movie from DC Films this past weekend. Shazam! is a fun superhero movie with a lot of heart. Definitely a good time.
Pet Sematary - Stephen King’s novel is given a new adaptation in this horror film starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow. The film premiered at South by Southwest last month and is already receiving rave reviews.
The Best of Enemies - Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell star in this true story of a civil rights activist and Klan leader who are forced to team up to fight school segregation in the South.
April 12th
Hellboy - Academy Award winner Guillermo del Toro made two amazing Hellboy movies already, so it feels a little unnecessary for a new one already, especially when the tone of this new Hellboy looks exactly like that of the previous ones.
Little - Think Big, but the opposite. Regina Hall stars as a taskmaster of a boss who turns into a child and Issa Rae as her assistant who helps her navigate her predicament.
Missing Link - Laika (Coraline) produces this upcoming stop-motion animated adventure about a yeti and the explorer who finds him. Hugh Jackson, Zoe Saldana, Emma Thompson, and Zach Galifianakis lend their voices to the colorful characters.
April 19th
Under the Silver Lake - I wrote about Under the Silver Lake in my June 2018 preview before the movie release date was pushed multiple times. While my interest in the film was minimal 9 months ago, that interest has almost completely faded in the meantime. I would be remiss if I didn’t note that with Tobey Maguire serving as a credited producer The Best of Enemies, Tom Holland definitely showing up in Avengers: Endgame, and Andrew Garfield’s Under the Silver Lake finally being released, all three live-action Spider-Men are represented this month. Imagine that.
The Curse of La Llorona - Something something ghosts. Is that good? Is that enough for you? Because the trailer was scary as hell and I don’t want to watch it again.
After - A good girl college student falls for a bad boy of sorts in this upcoming romantic drama based on a novel of the same name. The book, which began as online One Direction fan-fiction (I am not kidding), belongs to a genre called “new adult fiction” which I have never heard of, apparently, it is a step above “young adult” but just below, you know, real fiction.
April 26th
Avengers: Endgame - The culmination of the so-called Infinity Saga, comprising of the 22 Marvel Studios films (including Endgame), is finally here. I have my tickets, do you have yours?
Now for a quick look ahead to May, my top picks for next month are John Wick 3: Parabellum, Aladdin, and Brightburn.

Latest story from https://movietvtechgeeks.com/oprahs-wrinkle-time-no-match-1-billion-black-panther-box-office/
Oprah's 'Wrinkle In Time' no match for $1 billion 'Black Panther' at box office
T’Challa still rules the box office four weeks in, even with the fresh rivalry of another Walt Disney Studios release in “A Wrinkle in Time.” “Black Panther” took the No. 1 spot at the North American box office with $41.1 million according to studio estimates Sunday, leaving another newcomer in its wake. The Marvel and Disney phenomenon crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide this weekend and became the 7th highest grossing domestic release with $562 million. Not accounting for inflation, it’s now passed “The Dark Knight.” With a marketplace still dominated by “Black Panther,” Disney faced some stiff competition from its own studio in launching Ava DuVernay’s adaption of “A Wrinkle in Time,” which opened in second place with $33.3 million from 3,980 locations. The PG-rated film, which cost around $103 million to produce and stars Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon, received mixed reviews from critics (it’s currently at a “rotten” 44 percent on RottenTomatoes) and audiences who gave it a B CinemaScore. Even Oprah Winfrey pushing hard on the promotional circuit couldn't save this film. Pent-up demand for a PG-rated Disney film. The first movie in four years from a filmmaker heralded as a visionary. A production and marketing budget of at least $150 million.
“A Wrinkle in Time” (Disney), directed by Ava DuVernay, the first African-American woman at the helm of a big-budget studio film, and starring a diverse ensemble cast led by Ms. Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon, had everything going for it. But, as often happens in Hollywood, the sum added up to less than its parts. “A Wrinkle in Time” arrived to a lackluster $33.3 million in ticket sales at 3,980 theaters in North America over the weekend.
That turnout placed it well behind Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther” (Disney), which collected about $41.1 million in its fourth weekend, for a new domestic total of $562 million, according to comScore, which compiles box office data. After a sturdy debut in China over the weekend, “Black Panther” crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, shattering a myth about the overseas viability of movies rooted in black culture.
To avoid going down as a misfire, “A Wrinkle in Time” — primarily aimed at children ages 8 to 14 — must attract large numbers of families in the coming weeks, when schools begin spring breaks. However, Ms. DuVernay’s movie, adapted from Madeleine L’Engle’s novel, received mostly weak reviews from critics and a B grade from ticket buyers in CinemaScore exit polls — results that typically do not translate to strong word of mouth.
“A Wrinkle in Time” collected an additional $6.3 million in limited release overseas (about 14 percent of the international marketplace), according to Disney. It will roll out later in March in important markets like Britain, Mexico, Australia, and Brazil.
In gauging “A Wrinkle in Time’s” long-term prospects, a somewhat similar comparison could be Disney’s “Tomorrowland,” a PG-rated sci-fi pic with middling reviews and a B CinemaScore which opened to $33 million in the early summer of 2015 and went on to gross $93 million domestically. “Tomorrowland,” however, notably cost nearly twice as much to make as “A Wrinkle in Time.” But the “Black Panther” effect is the x-factor here. For Disney, it’s a “win all around.” “When you think about having two films at the top of the box office, it’s definitely a win all around,” says Disney’s worldwide theatrical distribution president Dave Hollis. “We’re feeling good about this start ... We’re feeling good about what, for us, is a little family competition between now and (the Easter holiday).” Hollis says he doesn’t think the studio would have done anything differently regarding “Wrinkle’s” release had they known the scope and longevity of “Black Panther’s” prospects. “There’s always going to be competition in the marketplace,” he says. “With a tentpole strategy like ours, four weeks of separation is about what we can expect.” Still, “Black Panther” has devoured the marketplace for a month straight now, leaving all other newcomers in the dust. The new horror film “The Strangers: Prey At Night,” with Christina Hendricks, took third place with $10.5 million. The Jennifer Lawrence thriller “Red Sparrow” landed in fourth in its second weekend with $8.2 million and the comedy “Game Night” placed fifth with $7.9 million in weekend three. Hardly any of the new releases, which also included the thriller “The Hurricane Heist” (8th place, $3.2 million) and the dark action comedy “Gringo,” (11th place, $2.6 million) were well-reviewed going into the weekend, save for the limited release independents like “Thoroughbreds,” which made $1.2 million from 549 locations, and Armando Iannucci’s “The Death of Stalin,” which opened in four theaters to $181,000. It also left room for the Academy Award best picture winner “The Shape of Water,” which is also available on home video, to capitalize on its post-Oscars stature. The Fox Searchlight film added 720 theaters and took in in $2.4 million from 1,552 locations, bringing its domestic total to $61 million. But even though “Black Panther” has helped boost the year to date box office significantly, it’s also proving to be a continued challenge for any other wide release hoping for a piece of the market. “Every movie that has opened in the wake of ‘Black Panther’ has had its work cut out for it,” says comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian. “We keep underestimating this film, and it just shows no sign of slowing down.” Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” (Fox Searchlight), which was named best picture at the 90th Academy Awards last weekend, expanded into 1,552 locations and received a solid Oscar bump, collecting $2.4 million, for a new domestic total of about $61 million. “The Shape of Water,” which won four Academy Awards in total, including one for Mr. del Toro’s directing, has now taken in $134 million worldwide. Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to comScore. Where available, the latest international numbers for Friday through Sunday are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
“Black Panther,” $41.1 million ($100 million international).
2. “A Wrinkle in Time,” $33.3 million ($6.3 million international). 3. “The Strangers: Prey At Night,” $10.5 million ($140,000 international). 4. “Red Sparrow,” $8.2 million ($15.7 million international). 5. “Game Night,” $7.9 million ($5.4 million international). 6. “Peter Rabbit,” $6.8 million ($4.8 million international). 7. “Death Wish,” $6.6 million ($3 million international). 8. “The Hurricane Heist,” $3.2 million ($1.9 million international). 9. “Annihilation,” $3.2 million. 10. “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” $2.8 million. Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at international theaters (excluding the U.S. and Canada), according to comScore:
“Black Panther,” $100 million.
“Operation Red Sea,” $23.8 million.
“Red Sparrow,” $15.7 million.
“Tomb Raider,” $14.1 million.
“The Shape of Water,” $11.3 million.
“Detective Chinatown 2,” $11.2 million.
“Une Jolie Ch’tite Famille,” $8.8 million.
“Amazing China,” $8.1 million.
“Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” $8 million.
“A Wrinkle in Time,” $6.3 million.

Oscars 2018: When and How to Watch Online, and All Other Questions Answered
New Post has been published on http://secondcovers.com/oscars-2018-when-and-how-to-watch-online-and-all-other-questions-answered/
Oscars 2018: When and How to Watch Online, and All Other Questions Answered
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
It’s almost time for Oscars 2018. A year and a few days since the infamous envelope fiasco that led to La La Land being temporarily crowned Best Picture instead of actual winner Moonlight, Hollywood’s biggest self-congratulatory event – formally known as the 90th Academy Awards – will return to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. We’re pretty sure that whoever presents the Best Picture award at Oscars 2018 will get in a jab about last year’s embarrassing and hilarious moment.
While everyone from Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot to first-time nominee Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig will be at the Oscars, most of us will have to be content with our positions in front of the television. To help you prepare for the big night, we answer all the questions you (probably) have.
What’s the date and time for Oscars 2018?
The 2018 Oscars are taking place this Sunday, March 4. Things will kick off with the red carpet arrivals starting 3:30pm PT/ 6:30pm ET in the US, with the actual awards ceremony beginning at 5pm PT/ 8pm ET.
In India, the live telecast of the 90th Academy Awards will begin on Monday, March 5 at 5:30am IST for an hour of the red carpet, followed by the awards ceremony starting at 6:30am IST.
For everyone else around the world, here’s a handy link for the start of the Oscars 2018 awards ceremony. Subtract an hour or more if you like watching the red carpet arrivals.

How can I watch Oscars 2018 online?
In the US, the 2018 Oscars will be broadcast on ABC. Of course, you can also stream the 90th Academy Awards on the ABC website or the ABC app, if your TV provider is supported.
In India, the 2018 Oscars will be simulcast on Star Movies, Star Movies HD, and Star Movies Select HD, just as they were last year. You can also choose to stream the 2018 Oscars in India on Hotstar. If you don’t wish to get up early on Monday, you can catch a repeat telecast at 8:30pm IST.
Viewers in the UK will need Sky Cinema to watch the 2018 Oscars on TV. Coverage starts at Monday midnight local time, followed by the ceremony at 1am. To stream the event, you’ll need Now TV and the Sky Cinema Pass.
Oscars 2018 Nominations List for the Best Picture – and Where to Watch Them Online
Over in Canada, CTV will air the 2018 Oscars starting 5pm PT/8pm ET. You can also stream the ceremony on CTV.ca and the CTV Go app. Down in Australia, Channel Nine will start the broadcast at 12pm local time, while Sky Network has the rights in New Zealand.
For the other 200 countries, refer to the official Academy guide on how to watch the 2018 Oscars around the world.
Who’s hosting Oscars 2018?
Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is back as host, becoming the first person to host back-to-back ceremonies since Billy Crystal in 1997-98. Though there’s no blame on his end for Envelopegate, he didn’t hold back from being cheeky about it: “If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show.”
Expect him to insert some jabs about last year’s blunder into his monologue, while also commenting on the #MeToo-related Time’s Up social movement that has swept the 2018 awards season since the Golden Globes.

What should I know about the Best Picture nominees at Oscars 2018?
Like last year, there are a total of nine films in the running for the biggest award of the night. The Shape of Water, Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy drama about a mute janitor and a fish-man, leads the pack with 13 nominations. Christopher Nolan’s WWII film Dunkirk is second with eight.
We felt this question was really important, so we went ahead and dedicated an entire piece to this year’s Best Picture nominees. It even includes ways on how you watch all nine movies – go check it out.
Are there any other Oscars 2018 nominations I should know about? Yes, in fact. The nominees for the 90th Academy Awards have broken several records, including many firsts and some for longevity. Logan, the final film for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, became the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Rachel Morrison is now the first woman to be nominated for Best Cinematography, for her work on Netflix’s Mudbound.
Both Meryl Streep and composer John Williams broke their own records, garnering the 21st and 51st Oscar nomination for The Post and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, respectively. Christopher Plummer is the oldest actor (aged 88) to be nominated for his role in All the Money in the World, while Agnès Varda (aged 89) is now the oldest person nominated for a competitive Oscar, for her documentary Faces Places.
Kobe Bryant became the first NBA player to get an Oscar nomination, for his animated short film Dear Basketball. Dee Rees, director of Mudbound, is the first queer black woman nominated for writing, while Yance Ford – director on Netflix doc Strong Island – is the first openly transgender director nominee.

Awards are boring. Who’s performing at Oscars 2018?
If you feel that way, you’ll be glad to know that all five nominees for Best Original Song will perform live during the 90th Academy Awards. That includes Sufjan Stevens with Mystery of Love from Call Me by Your Name; Gael García Bernal, Miguel, and Natalia Lafourcade for Coco’s Remember Me; Andra Day and Common with Stand Up for Something from Marshall; Mary J. Blige with Mighty River from Mudbound; and Keala Settle with This is Me from The Greatest Showman.
I want to live-tweet the Oscars. Is there an official hashtag? Yes, indeed. If you type #Oscars on Twitter, an Oscars statuette will appear next to the hashtag. And this being the 90th anniversary of the Oscars, the statuette will also appear with #Oscars90.
I haven’t seen a single nominee. What can I tweet to sound knowledgeable? Four big categories have clear front-runners: Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) for Best Actor, Frances McDormand (Three Billboards) for Best Actress, Allison Janney (I, Tonya) for Best Supporting Actress, and Coco for Best Animated Feature. If they win, make a ‘knew-it’ comment, and use adjectives like powerful (Oldman), raw and fierce (McDormand), ferocious and unflinching (Janney), and sweet, heartfelt and warm (Coco).
The winners of three other categories aren’t so obvious. Sam Rockwell has won more Best Supporting Actor awards in last two months, but the backlash against Three Billboards for trying to redeem a racist cop means the Oscar could go to Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project). In the Best Director race, Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) has the upper hand, with Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk) the weaker candidate.
That leaves Best Picture, the most important award of all. All signs point towards a close two-horse race between The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. We’ll have to wait till Sunday (or Monday, depending on where you live) to find out who takes home the last Oscar of the night.
