Bonjour! In the spirit of curiosity, I'm going around asking people things about their experiences in fandom. So, here's the first question: have you ever joined an exchange or fan-run event before (can be as a writer, beta reader, or artist)? If the answer is yes, what did you like about it? Can you share the piece you made for it? Cheers! 🪶 anon
Several! So far always as an artist. I enjoy organized efforts to encourage community interaction and engagement :) I think events like these are the lifeblood of fandom, among many other things- but besides just general posting, having some Thing™ that people are working together towards makes these little internet friendships and community feel a little more tangible to me.
As for examples,
Dreblr secret santa
Dreblr gift exchange
Technoblade gift exchange
mcyt au fest
dtblr secret santa
dtqk big bang
dreblr secret santa again
And maybe more jhfgkd
I was far less present in my previous fandoms before falling into block hell. Besides the occasional collab, I didn't do any sort of exchanges or events back then.

there's a new really terrible kind of person on the internet i've noticed lately who thinks it's totally okay to belittle someone's trauma if they're, like, kinda sorta annoying or whatever, and/or if it sounds like something that "shouldn't" cause trauma. like they legitimately think that they, as a complete and total stranger, can decide whether or not someone else is ~actually~ traumatized
recently someone i know - who did, in fact, grow up in a cult - tried to see a new therapist for EMDR. when they mentioned religious trauma during the first visit, she practically laughed in their face and told them it's ~just a buzzword~ and not actually a real thing (and that you can only get trauma from being raped, suffering severe physical abuse, or almost dying) so like. idk, maybe promoting the idea that people frequently exaggerate or just simply make up trauma (and supposedly for fucking clout of all things) actually has real world implications and doesn't make for a little funny haha tumblr post lmao

evrart has had the same voice actor from the start. however, his vocal performance between releases has been changed drastically. so i finally got two examples side by side- him saying the same lines, in original and in final cut. personally im so accustomed to squawky evrart that the old one seems quite offputting haha

i feel like in progressive circles white women are treated as the ultimate evil while white men are coddled, even tho white men are more privileged, vote more conservatively, and are probably more violently racist

smth ive been thinking about is how, for all of Fiyero’s own issues with self identity and public perception, he gets to meet Elphaba on his own, without anyone to watch and judge; similarly, everyone present is asleep when he helps her with the lion cub. We simply do not have a frame of reference for how Glinda would’ve acted if her and Elphaba were alone when they first met. She doesn’t get the benefit of being her own person, but must always move as part of the larger organism of society, either with everyone else or against them. this is done to symbolise that closeted comphet lesbians are the most oppressed people in the universe

Books of 2025: BLACKFISH CITY by Sam J. Miller.
Finished this last night! The jacket copy starts, "When a strange new visitor arrives in a floating city in the Arctic--humanity's last hope after the ravage of climate change--the city is entranced. She's riding an orca and has a polar bear at her beck and call," and, honestly, I'm sold (love a good floating city!).
I adored the setting and the worldbuilding--supremely cool city that was thoughtfully developed--and I loved how the narrative came together at the end. All the POV characters felt distinct (thank heck, because there were Many of them), and I had a fun time figuring out how to piece all the relationships together and percolating on The Science. Overall had a great time!
