• "Bad girl" Karai had spunk and stood up for herself and was opinionated and initiative. Had more depth and motivation.

Edit: The thing that made her "bad girl" (and that happens in real life) was that she was defiant and went for anything she desired without asking permission or authority. Definitely. Patriarchy-defiant, probably. And devs of 2012 TMNT really noticed this in 2003 TMNT Karai. And besides the patriarchal demand of female behavior and repression, the devs really liked and invested into her more. She was a person, as a result.

• While the "good girl" TMNT 2012 April turned out as a distorted image of a patriarchal idea for what a "good girl" is supposed to be like. A luckluster puppet of the system's ideology for what it is supposed to be or even look like. (Brother Grim pleased the patriarchal system and made their females into harmless, housewife, helpless personnel who were singing happily while getting exploited with housework. It took like 1500000000 encounters for you to even interact with this giant

Big brain move tbh, but damn it was the most awkward interaction in the beginning for a little bit

I’ll let you imagine how it went, but whatever you did went well because you exchanged contact information and then started talking a lot after awhile, how cute.

 After several months of hanging out Matt developed feelings because usually people think he’s cool and mysterious and expect something much more different when becoming friends, so when they’re unsatisfied with him actually just being an awkward, tall bean who needs much affection they just ghost him and leave.

He can be very protective at times though like he’ll beat someone up for you if you ask and have a good reason. Because Matt dyes his hair quite often (blonde and brown, more hc’s on that later though) he’ll ask you to wash it and condition it during hair maintenance rituals. And he likes to wash and condition your hair too. If you braid and place flowers in his hair after you do it he’ll immediately want to go hiking in the wilderness because he’s a princess-- I mean uh...nature calls????

we spend so much of our life worried about what other people might think about us/being embarrassed but like……..u only got one life. so wear that pretty dress you’re worried about ruining, use that sticker set/washi tape u bought, flaunt your interests. it’s crazy how society really tries to push the whole ‘blend into the crowd, keep your head down’ shit. don’t be ashamed of doing stuff you love. if you love folk metal and neon clothing and writing fanfiction…….that’s valid and fun. anybody who tries to smother ur creativity probably has some deep issues that have……nothing to do with u

your art is not bad. your writing is not bad. your creations are not bad. you are not trash/garbage/an awful person. this kind of bs (and ‘relatable, omg I’m so ugly, stupid, bad’ culture) is so toxic. if you look at the stuff you make and dislike aspects of it, that’s okay! it shows that you’re growing and honing your craft! nothing is perfect on the first try.  So... I know this is not how this game is suppossed to be played, but I love making this kind of decisions/opinions and I just can’t wait for someone to ask me, so yeah 💪🙌😆🤗

💫- What Quirk would you want (your own or existing in BNHA), and why?: One with heal power. Like “light” quirk, but not the physical type, instead, the kindness type one that reaches other’s souls and heals them from within <3 (I don’t think this is possible in BNHA world due to the lack of moral guilt villains have. It’s usually Deku who reaches other’s hearts and “others” are good people- who need to be rescued/heroes more often than not).

❇- Best quirk: OFA, of course. It gives you strengh and you can do a lot of things with that (so, speed too). Even better now that we know what he really stores, iykwim (last manga chapters, 213-5). The problem is how difficult it is to control...

🚫-Worst quirk (except Mineta): LOL. This is really difficult, they all can be used for something... Mt. Lady’s gigantification seems a little... how to say it? uncomfortable? Aoyama’s Belly Laser sounds like a pain: difficult to control and makes your belly hurt 😖 (it’ll be useful, but I wouldn’t like to have it).

😳- BNHA harem? 5-10 people: Not my thing, sorry.

About hero costume, Deku’s one is the cutest and seems to be one of the most comfortable ones. Particularly the Betta one or the Gamma with the new airfoce support gloves. I don’t like the large ones design (but I know they’re important to protect his arms).

🕳- Most shocking plot twist/unexpected scene: Deku freaking standing up against Muscular when he should be finished for right. It was indredible because I didn’t realized how much he had improved until then (even if it’s a typical emotional power up, I really didn’t expect him to have the energy, I swear O.O).

The first episode with AM’s true form was a comical one for this too, LOL.

Colour(s) I’m currently wearing

Mostly white - I’m wearing my bathrobe. My mom got it for me and it’s great. It’s not the softest but it’s good and it’s got cool blue and grey horizontal stripes on the bottom. Normally it’s very frustrating for her to try to get clothing gifts for me, but she hit the nail on the head with this one.

Last band T shirt I bought

I’ve never bought a ‘band’ t-shirt. The artists I really love don’t have much in the way of t-shirts and if they do, they look really corny. Like I’m not gonna get a Streisand t-shirt and look like some middle-aged empty-nester out grocery shopping.

Last band I saw live

I guess our evening Jazz Ensemble - it’s professional adult musicians - at my school’s Jazz Ensembles concert. They’re great. As for non-school performances, I think? the last concert I went to was a Brian Setzer concert at the Hollywood Bowl with my mom a while back.

Last song I listened to

I tried listening to some contemporary pop from the Love, Simon (2018) soundtrack today and it was really difficult so now I’m at the computer enjoying some tumblr-time and listening to my most-chill and most-favorite Doris Day album.

Lipstick or chapstick?

I used lipstick once for my Katharine Hepburn halloween costume last year and - tbh lipstick is so much work - makeup in general. Like it would be fun to be a girl and wear dresses and be super pretty and stuff - but wo-MAN it’s so much work!

So chapstick. The tube I use is some Burt’s Bees pink grapefruit that I really love. This might sound weird but I only have it because a boy I had a small crush on once asked me to hold it while he changed clothes and forgot to collect it from me..

Last movie I watched

I went to the movies last weekend with @adamsberg​ and another one of my best friends and saw Love, Simon (2018). I really really really really loved it.

I hadn’t even heard of it until a few weeks ago I saw a trailer on YouTube, but I thought it looked great and it was everything I hoped and more. I have this soft spot for angsty contemporary teen dramas like this [The Fault In Our Stars (2014) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) are also in this micro-genre]. While I love my classics, I also love these great movies that are being made here and NOW! Sometimes I feel apart from the rest of the world - and not in a good way. I wasn’t friendless in high school - but I wasn’t anywhere near as close to any of my friends as any of these movie teens are... as accepted and loved as I am to/by an amazing, small, group of my friends now. I have no horror stories, but I don’t have very many stories and that’s just it - I could have had so much more, but I didn’t. Part of it was because I wasn’t out yet and this film so wonderfully explored that. I highly reccomend it - and not just for the good plot, it’s hilarious and an overall great experience.

Last 3 TV shows I watched

911 (2018-present) 

Sometimes my mom’s taste in first-run television is pretty bad (NCIS stopped being good like a decade ago) but in this case I am totally on-board. Angela Bassett [WAIT HOW IS SHE 59???????] is an inspiration (I WANT HER CHARACTER’S HOUSE!), the writing and production values are generally very good - it’s a solid, interesting show. Still, can anyone tell me what the deal with that middle-aged white lady (who’s a few years younger than Angela Bassett but lowekey looks 20 years older) who dresses like a suburban mom trying to dress like her teenage daughter - like what’s the deal with her dating that guy in his 20s? 

Frasier (1993-2004)

My mom and I watch this show somewhat regularly as it’s on like every flippin’ night on the scourge that is the Hallmark Channel (generally decent reruns, but I hate the channel itself and their original programming is complete trash). In a lotta ways I really love it - it’s hilarious, witty, sophisticated, adult, and has the power to  create a real poigniant moment like you rarely see so fully-realized in sitcoms. 

It has its issues though. Frasier and Niles (especially in early seasons) can get annoyingly whiny/snobby. I get that their characters are kinda built around that, but there’s a point at which they take it too far and it becomes disengaging. Also it’s a super white-people-centric show (I wonder why Hallmark likes it so much...) so diversity could be a lot better. Still, it’s generally a high-quality program.

Gosh I don’t remember what else I watched last. I haven’t had a lotta TV time lately so Imma use this opportunity to plug...

Stranger Things (2016-present)

One’a my best friends, Grace, introduced me to this show and I absolutely love it. The period’s really well done - not just accurate, but alive and real and relatable. The acting and casting is great. Winona Ryder is a treasure and I have a shameless crush on Joe Keery’s amazing hair and the person it belongs to. The scoring is effective, interesting, and very different from the kind of film music I usually am exposed to (I’m really making an effort to expand my horizons beyond classic orchestral sounds lately). The production values are great - it’s just an amazing show. 

Last 3 characters I identified with

1.) Simon Spier from Love, Simon (2018)

While there are some things about him I definitely don’t identify with (message me personally if you wanna know specifics- I don’t want to spoil anything), I very much identify with his coming out story and coming to terms with his sexuality on his own terms. 

I feel like there are people who will criticize the film based on Simon’s extreme normalcy - like he’s honestly a fairly stock white, middle-class, suburban teenage boy and, aside from his involvement in theater and ‘ya know liking boys he doesn’t do much that would be considered “gay” - but that’s kinda the point of the film. Being gay is just something that is and anyone can be gay - they’re not weird or whatever just for being gay - that was one of my fears - that I would be treated (or even just feel like) some strange unwelcome outsider just because of this one thing.

I had a long conversation tonight with an older kinda mentor’y friend of mine (though I’m more of the mentor) who’s gay and who was having a really rough night. Among the lotta things he said was that all gay men cheat that there’s no true monagomous love in the gay community and like lightning I shot him down with a fervor and wisdom and riteousness that would make Kate proud (wayto blow my own horn). 

That’s the exact kind of idiotic prejudice that makes people afraid to come out in the first place. It’s fear that kind of small-minded judgmental behavior which was most responsible for me remaining closeted in high school. It’s a hard thing to explain to someone who hasn’t been there because after you’ve been through it, it can kinda feel like nothing afterwards -  all this fear and conflict and it’s really kinda purposeless. You find that people still love you and the people who don’t are really not good people anyway. I wish I had come out in high school, I could have been happier. But I am happy now.

2.) Tracy Lord from The Philadelphia Story (1940)

Dedicated followers may remember I rewatched this one a few wks ago on what would have been a date with me and my crush until he cancelled. That time I saw Trace and Kate herself through lenses less tinted than ever before, but still she’s there in all her glory and all her not-glory. Tracy is riteous, despises drinking and gets very contemptful of what she views as weakness, such as her ex-husband’s drinking problem or Mike’s cynical view of the rich. I am often that way (in large part due to the second-generation effects of my mom’s own east coast catholic upbrining) which has it’s merits certainly - that specific east coast almost ‘puritan’ toughness (I think Dick Cavett, said Bette Davis and Kate both had it) can be a tremendous source of strength and sense. It can also easily become cold, prudish, snobbish, and condesending. I have tried to unlearn these aspects and I am still working on that. This is kinda what Tracy’s arc is about, learning to be human and be loved and to love others.

Though it’s not as recent, the next one that comes to mind is

3.)  Nancy Wheeler from Stranger Things

I already mentioned that my friend Grace got me into this show, but I didn’t mention that I only ever watch it with her. Not that I don’t really love the show - I do - but I like saving it for when we’re together - it makes it more special. 

Anyway, more than perhaps any other single character on that show, I identify with Nancy Wheeler. Regular suburban teenager who’s better - not just a regular suburban teenager - she’s aware of the sort of suburban ‘don’t do much with your life ‘cept rasie kids [not that there’s anything wrong with having and raising kids, that’s wonderful] trap. I also found the episode with her at Steve’s house really resonated with me. Barb telling Nancy “this isn’t you” really got to me. Part of me still has an internal ‘Barb’ that kinda ties in with the whole east-coast ‘puritan’y’ morality but there’s also the part of me that wants to be young and just a person and do cool things with my friends and kiss boys and watch great angsty contemporary teen dramas. They both have their merits and drawbacks - the young side has life but can be stupid and reckless - the old side is wise and careful, but can be paralyzing and stagnating.

The Unanswered Question: Six Talks at Harvard     by   Leonard Bernstien

I loved his The Joy of Music so I figured I would like this too. He’s a great music lecturer. I’m only like 5 pages in so far.

Elizabeth Taylor: A Private Life for Public Consumption      by    Ellis Cashmore 

This one I’m a little further on, though most of that was just the introductory timeline of her life with a key notating each illness/medical episode, marriage/actual or rumored romantic relationship, and neaar-death experience (her life is such ‘drama’).

I also have a book about motifs in Hitchcock’s films with the car picnic from To Catch a Thief (1955) on the cover. I haven’t started reading it yet.

And I have some book about Lerner & Lowe, the duo responsibly for My Fair Lady, Camelot, etc...

1. Dream job? I used to want to work on the trauma floor eventually, but I’m pretty sure my hands are screwed for dropping things so I’m going to settle for something else that I have a different sort of passion for- art and writing. I’d love to be on the creative team for a game developer some day, whether for concept art, writing, storyboarding, what have you. I’ve got a little ways to go but hey- I’ve got time.

2. Favorite movie(s)? Technically a musical but made into a movie, Repo! The Genetic Opera was fucking fantastic. By contrast any Studio Ghibli movie also has my solid vote.

3. Favorite book(s)? Uhhh less books and more an author but a friend of mine recently got me very invested in Cat Valente’s books and I’m picking through Deathless these days in my free time!

4. Favorite video games(s)? Do you expect me not to say Morrowind? …Its Morrowind. I also like Event[0] a LOT and it’s a shame it seems so little-known.

5. Favorite music artist(s)? Ooooh here’s a list for you. Major Parkinson (of course), Ritual Howls, nearly anything done or performed by Terrance Zdunich (its a good aesthetic), Sleeping At Last, Daedric Tales, Glass Animals, and now Eivørthanks to you :D

6. Hobbies? I’m getting back into metalworking mostly because I’d like to make a knife Because I Can, aaand other than that? Beyond art & writing, I do competitive target archery (or did, can’t afford to get out to practice these days), am a semi-professional vocalist and used to do traveling theatre when I lived in British Columbia. I also code things, but I haven’t been in the right brainspace for a while.

7. Is there a sound you cant stand? Yes, actually, there’s two in particular. Metal-on-metal- Not clashing, but scraping and screeching. Trains, buses, anything that makes that absolutely godsawful fucking screech, and muffled voices in another room. Usually from outside. The kind of muffled where you’re not certain whether someone’s just angry or if they’re trying to get someone to sod off. When you can’t tell if some noise you just heard was a sound of pain or if the neighbors are just getting familiar on the balcony again.

9. Are you religious? I’m some weird brand of off-brand “WHATEVER WORKS” Pagan liable to collect dead things and have a different altar arrangement and theme every time you visit

14. What infuriates you? way too many things to list here I’d honestly rather not get heavy or political here because there is a lot that infuriates me. Instead, I’m going to go for a simpler “People discouraging others from their interests, ignoring them, shutting them down.” I hate when people hear someone so passionate about their interests or hobbies, and respond with negativity. It costs exactly $0.00 to be a nice person.

15. If you could have three wishes, what would they be? (no loopholes!)First: Enough money. Not an obscene amount. But enough for whatever I may need at any given time. Enough to give to my friends when they need it. Enough to commission an artist I love. Enough to actually live, to be honest. Enough to fund my own transition, and maybe even surprise someone else by funding theirs.Second: An immediate and permanent dismantling of the system that exploits the poor and ‘undesirables’ of society. The system that throws out perfectly edible food, that hoards enough to feed, clothe, care for the health of and educate the entire planet but keeps it because it’s not ‘profitable enough’ for them. Third: Honestly just give me the ability to shapeshift please? I’m using that for minor changes like hair color, skin clarity, eye tone... And more drastic things like animals, I’m totally stealth-ing across borders as a goddamn moose to go visit my friends (Not to mention becoming a bird and hitching a ride on a boat to europe and oceania? Shapeshifting into a cryptid beast to terrify assholes in the dead of night? Sign me the fuck up)

17. Is there a certain smell you hate? There’s a very specific type of sterile smell that I hate and associate with some pretty bad times in my life. I also don’t like the smell of peameal bacon and most types of pork in general, something about it makes me incredibly ill. I can only stand regular bacon and sometimes pork loin, if it’s cooked to go whiteish.

She’s still one of the best protagonists I’ve ever seen in a game, and yet there’s still a lot of blanks to fill in, a lot of her story to be told. WHAT  ARE  YOUR  FAVORITE  ASPECTS  OF  YOUR  CURRENT  MUSE : God, Heather is so pissed at everything. She’s kind of a Shit Teenager and that’s just so fun to write. And yet, she’s got a lot of vulnerability too? why were you drawn to each one of your characters?

ruth balakov  - i’ve had her character in my head for such a long time, and i was finally just like “fuck it! i’m gonna write her!” bc i love parks and rec, but i just can’t play leslie bc there’s too much history and stuff and i really wanted to play a quirky nina fc bc i used to have one that i loved, and it just seemed like a perfect fit

tutankhamun “tut” mcmullen  - tut’s origin story is one of the best!!! so, @idyllicism and i decided to use this randomizing character generator to do a fun random thread, and it gave me tut (which is why his name is so out there) who has grown so close to my heart, and i am thankful

jughead jones - tbh i added jughead bc i wanted to write him properly aKA ASEXUAL! I’M LOOKIN AT U RIVERDALE

melody valentine - tbh… i added her bc i wanted to write her with jenna :) and also i loved archie comics as a kid and always thought melody was so beautiful and her voice came easily to me so !

mark darcy - buckle in, this is gonna be a long ride. bridget jones’s diary is one of those movies that i love to death. it’s one of my sick movies, it’s one of my sad movies, my homesick movies, it helps me feel better. so, watching bridget jones i’ve always identified with both of the lead characters, but there’s something about mark that was especially easy for me to access. i’m still trying to figure out exactly what it is, but there’s something to him that i just…understand, if that makes sense. when i decided to make a multi-muse, he was one of the very first characters i had as a muse bc i knew i had to add him. he’s in my heart and soul. 

choi han-kyul - so han-kyul is another one of those characters who i just really strongly identify with. in coffee prince, he’s someone who undergoes some huge development in who he is, and when i saw the drama for the first time, it aligned with some things i was dealing with in my own life. his relationship with his father, his coming to terms with his sexuality, his maturation, his longing to live up to his own potential, it all just hit me. another heart and soul character.

greg serrano - i think i added him because he helps me come to terms with some real life stuff i have going on and also because i loved his development and wanted to explore that past what the show was able to give us

blair warner - i cANNOT fuck this is taking so much longer than i thought it would, but i have so many muses, and want to give them all their proper due, and fuclasfhdads. so from the beginning, i walked into a gas station this summer, and one of the employees was like “oh my god, you look exactly like blair from the facts of life!” and i was like “haha thanks!” bc i didn’t know who she was, but my dad who was with me was like “oh my god she does!” and then he was like “she’s like her more than just in looks too” meaning our personalities were similar. so OFC i had to watch this show to see my doppelganger. and WOW i was amazed bc she’s the closest i’ve ever seen to myself in physical aspects but also we’re very similar personality-wise too, and after my first episode, i fell in love, and i just had to add her as a muse

jo polniaczek - i didn’t expect jo, but after i watched that first episode, i fell in love just as i did with blair. honestly, the writers and cast can say she’s straight all they want, but jo is a gay icon, and it’s just so cool to see a character like that who’s so layered. jo is sensitive but also tough. she’s gone through a lot, but still holds such compassion and i love her to death and fuckfdsakfasf she’s honestly ruined all human beings for me now bc she’s the ultimate. 

emily gilmore - so, emily is another one of those relating characters. what can i, a 22 year old baby bi, have in common with an old middle aged straight? well, let me tell you: a LOT. i identify so much with the way that emily has tried all her life to succeed in the society she was brought up in and having set ways of doing things and then just…letting go and trying to make herself happy. it’s inspiring and i love her. 

meredith quill - listen, i’m not a fan of superhero movies, but i like the guardians of the galaxy series, and when i saw the second movie, i fell instantly in love with meredith and her light, and i had to add her

alice longbottom - i have never read the books, but i’ve read a lot of fandom stuff, and i just love the longbottoms, and i like that there’s a certain amount of freedom there to explore who she is and her story

arthur weasley - arthur reminds me of my dad, and his voice comes super easily to me which is why i added him

victoire weasley - again, i like the amount of freedom i’m afforded in figuring out who she is and all that

helga g. pataki - this is another heart and soul character. as a kid, i was also mean and dramatic and precocious. i was a LOT like helga. even today, i struggle with trying to soften myself for the benefit of others because i can come across as intimidating (idk why??). but i just…it’s just like damn. i get you, helga. we both have an alcoholic parent, tense relationships with our older sisters, and we both don’t have a TON of friends and just feel kind of…out of place, i guess, in the world we live in. we’re a little out of place and i just get her. i understand her, and i’m glad that she exists. 

effie trinket - she’s just such a fascinating character, and i want to explore her more

katniss everdeen - i get her

jane villanueva - see, jane is someone who i think i look up to. she’s someone i wish i could be more like. i chose to add her as a muse because i love her and just want to give her a nice life bc lord knows she deserves it

michael cordero i added him bc he loves jane and is a huge dork and so caring and i lvoe him

rogelio de la vega - in a weird way, this is another character i relate a lot to. we’re both dramatic and a little vain, but we also care a lot about our family and most of the time, our intentions are good. he’s honestly such a fun character, and i’m glad i added him. 

elle woods - i added her bc she’s amazing??? one of the best people of all time??? and her voice came easily to me so i was like “all right!!!!”

ryan atwood - he’s my fave character from the oc. i love his development, and i love how he’s not exactly who you expect him to be. you think he’s gonna be this big troublemaker, but actually, he just wants a stable life, and he wants the people he loves to be happy. he just wants peace

pam beesly - she’s another heart character. i think a lot of people find it easy to relate to pam bc she goes through so many relatable things, and her story is overcoming insecurities and becoming more confident, and i think that’s something a lot of people can see themselves in. 

fitzwilliam darcy - i mean, i’ve always loved pride & prejudice, and i’ll be damned if darcy isn’t the easiest character for me to understand (a lot like mark)

jane bennet - she holds a special place in my heart bc people have said i’m like jane, and i’m always like “i wish” bc she’s the softest, most pure, most kind person, and i just needed that positivity in my life

queen clarisse renaldi - mY LOVE i love how they made her so layered in the movies, giving you hints of her background. i’ve always been interested in exploring her past, so i added her as a muse (another character whose voice came easily to me)

sabrina fairchild - sabrina is one of those movies i would watch after school was i was younger. i loved the romanticism of it and the costumes and music, and as i grew older, i started to think that it would have made for a more interesting movie if sabrina dumped linus at the end rather than ending up with him. what’s so interesting about that movie is her growth. she goes from a very dark place and undergoes some major development while still holding underpinnings of her past despite desperately trying to leave them behind. 

capheus onyango - i love sense8, so i knew i wanted to add muses or a muse from there, and going through all the characters, capheus’s voice was the one that came most easily to me. he’s more than just his optimism, and i love having him in my roster bc he has such warmth and compassion for those around him. he worries about how his actions will affect others, and i just have such immense love for him. 

princess fiona - me??? i grew up on shrek, and i love it in the most unironic way possible. i sincerely adore the movie and the musical, and fiona is a character i’ve always loved and related to a little bit. 

shrek - but more than relating to fiona, i probably relate to shrek more. my family has always joked that i’m like an onion too and that i have layers just like shrek. he grosses me out a lil with all the farting and earwax, but otherwise, i love shrek and think that for living alone for years after being abandoned by his parents, he was able to grow rather quickly once meeting other people, and shrek is good in my book

charles brooks - he’s another darcy like character, although i don’t love him as much. i added him bc lbr the younger fandom needs him

josh - mY SON i love josh and i think that he has so much growing to do, and i love how the show has left some of his background open so that i can take a lil bit more liberty in figuring him out. i also love his adventurous spirit and his ease while also being so loyal and loving. he’s someone i really love. 

chuck bartowski - chuck is one of those types that’s easier for me to write, and i think it’s just cause one of our core values is the same: family. family is one of the most important things to him, and it’s one of the most important things to me, and i think we just get each other in that aspect and more. 

denny duquette - “i’m a man! i’m a strong virile horse of a man stuck in the body some weak sick bastard that I don’t know, like or recognize. now if you knew what that feels like, you would have never convinced me to let a battery run my heart. if you knew what that feels like izzie, you would have let me go.” this is why.

again, i have fun with all of them, but probably rogelio. he’s just so much fun to write. helga is a lot of fun too! and ruth!

i mean, there are always more muses i’m thinking of adding. i’ve thought about adding na ae-ra from cunning single lady, but i’m pretty sure no one would write with her, so i haven’t added her yet.

i’ve always been wanting to add elizabeth from the crown because she’s another one of those characters i just super strongly relate to, but seeing as how she’s actually a real person, i haven’t. this is where i get a little confused because i know she’s a real person, but also, the show takes liberties, and she’s not actually queen elizabeth. like if i could take her character and make her not the real queen of england i would? but i just don’t know about what other people think of that? i dont knowslfjhads it’s a weird situation.

1.   WHAT’S  YOUR  OTP  FOR  YOUR  MUSE? : right now i don’t.... really have one........... for a while it was fitzsimmons, but rn my relationship with fitzsimmons is complicated so idk. there’s nothing really screaming at me as otp for jemma atm.

2.   WHAT  ARE  YOU  WILLING  TO  RP  WHEN  IT  COMES  TO  SHIPPING? : mmm i’m willing to try most things? i don’t really do smut, i’m okay with talking about ns.fw headcanons, but i don’t really....... i don’t write smut. like lead up to, and then fade to black, i’m good with that, but smut’s really about the only thing i can think of that i won’t rp. (except for like potentially with people i’m incredibly close with but there are very few people i’d be comfortable doing that with.) but fluff? drama? angst? bring it all on, i love it. things that lead to character and relationship development are my fave kinds of things. 

3.   HOW  LARGE  DOES  THE  AGE  GAP  HAVE  TO  BE  TO  MAKE  IT  UNCOMFORTABLE?: so like. jemma definitely has a thing for older guys. so like people being older than her, i’m much more flexible with that. but younger is a different story bc she’s still fairly young herself, and it would depend on her verses and such (like in the academy/first years at sci-ops vs. mainverse where she’s almost 30), but the youngest would probably be like 21 and that’s still kinda pushing it a bit? it’s one of those things where it just. really depends a lot, and probably would be a thing that’s good to be discussed. but general rule of thumb, definitely no younger than 21, preferably a bit older than that, but 21′s the definite cut off. this is all kinda dependent on verse (see: teen verses, immortal/mortal things, etc.) but in general.... yeah. i probably explained that really badly.

4.   ARE  YOU  SELECTIVE  WHEN  SHIPPING? : yes and no? i, personally, am ship trash in general, and could probably ship anything if the chemistry was right. jemma, however, can be selective about it. i’m more selective when it comes to rping certain ships, or with certain muses or fcs, usually bc of past experiences or what have you. but i’m very very against forced ships because that was a big thing in the past that would happen a lot, and i’m not about that. but tbh if you like mention it to me and we talk about it i’ll probably ship it because, as mentioned, i’m ship trash. i just prefer to talk about it first, even if it’s just a really vague ‘hey let’s try this thing’ before jumping straight into it, so we both know what we’re getting into and there’s nothing forced on either end?

hey Mavra! I was wondering: in your opinion, are the mortal instruments books worth reading? I love the show but I've heard a lot of negative things about the books. um, honestly, as books, they’re not bad books. actually, they’re engaging and pretty well-written overall (like, in terms of characters and plots and worldbuilding - the actual prose, although quite good at times and insanely readable, is overall pretty par for the course for YA lit, i.e. a lot of descriptions of what characters are wearing and what colour their eyes are, and there are some instances of humour and such where you’re very reminded that these books are geared towards a middle-teen audience, not that that’s necessarily a bad thing of course). also disclaimer: i’ve only read 1-6 of tmi, not tda or tid, so this answer is based only on tmi.

the thing is, they’re quite significantly different from the show. i think that’s why show fans have a hard time reconciling with the books, and vice versa for the book fans. i think season 2 is much more similar tonally (which i  really like, since i like the tone of the books), but plots and even characters are quite different, although maintaining the general essence of it all. so you should bear in mind that you are definitely dealing with a different animal entirely than the show, and generally the only way to appreciate both is to treat them as largely separate entities with some key commonalities. honestly, there are actually a few things i liked better in the books compared to show, so it’s also not like they are shitty second-rate versions of the show which is an interpretation i see a lot (largely from people who haven’t read them lol). 

a very important thing to consider about reading them is what you care about in the show. if you like the show as a whole, i’d say to give them a try. if you’re one of the “disregard everything except malec” fans, then you’re not gonna get much out of the books tbh. although the show is not really a true ensemble show either (as many people erroneously think and/or claim), it’s much more “ensemble” than the books are by a lot. in the books, you’re gonna see a heckton of clary and jace and clace, and a solid amount of simon, but everyone else plays a much more supporting role, especially in the first three books. (the last three books are actually, in my opinion, far better in most regards).

 ultimately, a YA fantasy novel and a television show are very, very different just in terms of medium. tv shows have much more opportunity - in terms of simply time – to explore sideplots, subplots, and individual/autonomous arcs for supporting characters - a YA fantasy novel is much more structured like a movie, with one overarching plot and usually one or two protagonists. so that’s what needs to be borne in mind - the show has a lot more room to explore characters, relationships, and plots outside of the 2 main characters, their relationship, and the main overarching plot. it’s not necessarily a condemnation of the books, although i feel like there is a bit of over-saturation of clary/jace/clace in the books even bearing the difference of media in mind, which may have otherwise opened up room for exploration of some of the other characters and worldbuilding and things, but it is what it is. other than the YA-fantasy aspect, the second genre of the books is undoubtedly romance, so a lot of the structuring of the storyline serves the romance - the main romance, i should say, which is that of clary and jace.

finally, to address the Big Thing: “the tmi books are ~~~problematic~~~” i mean, yes. there are some things that the show definitely improved upon in that regard, and there are some issues and red flags with how certain things are handled and treated in the books, e.g. biphobia is a big one, as well as lgbt+ characters and ships getting more sidelined compared to the show, and a lot more characters were cast as poc in the show than there were in the books, etc. like, if this kind of thing is important to you or upsets you, then that’s something you need to bear in mind when making the decision to read them. honestly, many people who condemn the books for this have also now basically condemned the show for racism/sexism/homophobia/etc. as well, so i mean lol. at the end of the day, it really depends on you. if you can be cognizant of these problems and still enjoy the story – as a story, rather than as an instrument of sociopolitical intent or discourse – i think they’re pretty good books, bearing in mind they’re geared for a slightly younger audience than is the show. ultimately, they’re not exactly inoffensive when it comes to representation and issues of the ilk, but i think they’re not so utterly atrocious either that the books be unreadable. to me, at least, but it’s quite a personal thing - i’ve always been the kind of person who can sort of separate the two things and recognize “problematic” aspects while still liking the thing. whether that’s for better or worse, well, lol, that’s up in the air. 

at the end of the day, many elements and characters that you love about the show did come from the books, although they may have taken on a different form, so i don’t think it’s really fair for us to consider the books utter trash. but that’s just me, personally. not telling anyone how to life their life. 

in terms of cassandra clare, there are some things she’s done (namely her sort of attitude towards the show especially when it was first starting, before it was successful, and some things i’ve heard about her bullying fans) that i don’t like. i think the plagiarism thing is a bit out of proportion as well (her pro-fic, not fanfic, that’s a whole nother story), and best-selling authors like her get lawsuits all the time (esp fantasy because of its use of common tropes), but that’s a story for another day. but i’m judging her books, not her as a person, when i write this. and honestly, the amount of vitriol that’s spewed at her from people, usually show fans, is staggering and even if i’m not the biggest fan of her as a person, it’s actually quite awful to me. idk man, i’m old-fashioned, i like interacting with people in a way that involves at least a modicum of respect, instead of making ugly nicknames and stuff, for example-  but my bad, i guess. (and inb4 “she’s much more of a bully!!!!!!!” yeah okay sink to her level then, why don’t you?)
