Men proving all the way they are masculine (to the point of degrading others and making themselves valid).
I think in the cartoon where female characters are sexualised and all the males have crushes on them. Maybe the devs have a fear of being called emasculine and lesser males. They have a fear for being offended by it. So to increase or keep their "worth," they have to conclude to making female characters love the interests of a male character and make them sexual (cat-woman flirt, anything of that sort). While framing male characters as "normal", because if they're not, it will distance and upset the audience.

One reason Karai ("bad girl") turned out better than April ("good girl") in TMNT 2012 CGI version was
• "Bad girl" Karai had spunk and stood up for herself and was opinionated and initiative. Had more depth and motivation.
Edit: The thing that made her "bad girl" (and that happens in real life) was that she was defiant and went for anything she desired without asking permission or authority. Definitely. Patriarchy-defiant, probably. And devs of 2012 TMNT really noticed this in 2003 TMNT Karai. And besides the patriarchal demand of female behavior and repression, the devs really liked and invested into her more. She was a person, as a result.
• While the "good girl" TMNT 2012 April turned out as a distorted image of a patriarchal idea for what a "good girl" is supposed to be like. A luckluster puppet of the system's ideology for what it is supposed to be or even look like. (Brother Grim pleased the patriarchal system and made their females into harmless, housewife, helpless personnel who were singing happily while getting exploited with housework. Those men didn't care for those portrayal of the 'proper good characters' rather than forcing gendered behaviors into their sexist fairy tales. For example. Female characters and stories suffered as we never really knew about them. They were cutboard cutout.)

@o4o41: Hi. 👋
@o4o41: "@Nex:Rewatching this [tmnt 2012] version, every female character was treated badly. All or most were used as romance plot to develop the male characters foreward not to mention the awful dynamics (ahem- Leo and Karai)". Tmnt 2012 devs were working and grew up with toxic "female's [screentime] importance and worth sums up within a male's crush/validation" metric. Instead they never viewed and thought that interesting path that a female could have a crush or admiration (and it wasn't much ruining the story). Let's say, in theory, if given chance and no restriction, 2003 April could have had a mild crush to Donnie (oh and the age gap problem, sorry) (instead being one-sided or pathetic story going and finishing to nowhere). ((Btw 1990s movie April and Raph were also close till she immediately was shipped "old married couple" Sheesh CJ. Because she isn't a strange siko isn't she 😬😬😬)). Also 1987 didn't shy away from tmnt crushes and 3 of them, appeared to be mutual and maybe 4 (Mickey got 2). One-sided, but older woman crush could be towards April but she kept everything netural, ((neither gave hope or lead on no one, which was also correct thing to do. Knowing the atmosphere and not do anything on top, when not actually interested or decided 🙏)).
@o4o41: Mikey can crush on an unapproachable celebrity. He also felt jealous when April showed interest to Bugman. (I don't speak much about Mikey, pardon.)
ho4ho5: I know, right? It’s a tricky path, but the important thing is that all of their interactions were lighthearted and not serious. Leo and April are both teenagers who match each other’s vibe perfectly, making this the perfect moment to actually give them a chance.
o4o41: It is a tricky path between 1. "a female character's validity simply being tied to a male crush" metric and 2. "forcing teenagers (and people in general) to fall in love," which is arophobic.
o4o41: 2. Not just forcing someone, but having someone with no crush be non-existent and, basically, out of the norm. Being aromantic is wrongly assumed to be a bad thing or some kind of illness. That's aphobia.
o4o41: 2. Or maybe people just don't like to admit their feelings because it's too personal, or no one in sight is worthy of having a crush on, really.
ho4ho5: If anything, Mutant Mayhem actually sets up a solid foundation for Aprilnardo without forcing anything unnatural. Leo clearly has a crush, but the movie doesn’t pressure April to reciprocate it just leaves things open. And that’s where the fun comes in! April doesn’t reject Leo outright, nor does she give any hint that she’s against the idea of liking him back. She’s just focused on other things at the moment. That doesn’t mean she won’t develop feelings later it just means the story isn’t rushing her into it. This actually makes their dynamic feel more natural. Sometimes, one person realizes their feelings first, while the other takes longer to even consider the possibility. Plus, April and Leo already have great chemistry. They work well together, she trusts him, and they share personal moments. The way she encourages him, and how he wants to impress her, already establishes a foundation that could grow into something more. Romance doesn’t always have to start with an obvious spark it can build over time.
So, from an Aprilnardo shipper perspective, the movie doesn’t shut it down it just plays the long game. If a sequel ever explores it, it wouldn’t come out of nowhere. April having a neutral stance now just means there’s room for development. Slow burns are the best, anyway!
o4o41: Thanks for the reply. 🩷
o4o41Apr 2@o4o41: Btw, I'd like to reblog our replies for the future, if you don't mind. 🩷🩷o4o41Apr 2@o4o41: Simply because I've discussed two interesting topics: aphobia and the poor treatment of female characters. (Validation of female characters' existence through the "male gaze" (portrayal) and the show being male-centered (populated).)
ho4ho5: Sure buddy do whatever you want
o4o41: Thanks 😊🩷🩷
o4o41:
Hi again. 🩷 I have some interesting replies and theories on another potential ship, more like a popular fanon for 2003 tmnt version just like with Karai (only she turned into dark side 🥲😬😓) here's the link:

o4o41:
You can check out [my] replies and share your opinion. And tell me if the replies and theories interest you. Have a nice day. 🩷
ho4ho5:
Sure👍
TMNT relationships have always been destined for doom either ending in tragedy or falling apart due to harsh circumstances. And the funny thing? Since TMNT was created, romances have rarely felt earned. Most of the time, characters fall in love simply because the plot needs them to.
Take Casey and April in 2003, for example. Their relationship boiled down to “Oh, you have turtle friends? I have turtle friends too! Let’s get married, it’ll be fun!” It lacked depth. Or look at Tang Shen in TMNT 2012 she had a baby and a husband, yet for some reason, there was still this weird “But Saki is kinda attractive though” subplot. None of it felt natural. And then there’s the mess that was April, Donnie, and Casey in 2012. They constantly argued, treated each other badly, yet by the end, it was like none of that mattered. Their relationships weren’t built on anything solid they just existed for the sake of the story.
That’s why Mutant Mayhem is interesting. Sure, it follows the same “romance is needed for the story to move forward” pattern, but there’s actually a key difference that sets it apart the characters themselves.
Leonardo is one of the most loyal characters in TMNT history. He’s practically like a dog he always finds the good in people, even when they’re trying to kick his ass. 2003 Leo is a prime example of this. Then we have April, who is just as sweet and loyal. But here’s the real difference: unlike Leo’s past crushes who either turned out to be his enemies or, uh… his siblings April is actually someone who could return his feelings. She acts tough at first, but once you show her a little kindness, she’s willing to meet you halfway. That’s why their dynamic has the potential to be healthy for once.
So why fear it when you can create something new? Romance has always been a rejected subject in TMNT either forced into the story or completely avoided. But Mutant Mayhem has the chance to fix that instead of just ignoring it out of convenience.
For once, the Turtles have the opportunity to be accepted as themselves while still being entirely different from the humans around them. TMNT has struggled with this in past versions whenever romance was involved, it either felt like a gimmick, a tragic subplot, or something doomed from the start. But this time? It doesn’t have to be that way.
Instead of treating romance like a background element with no real purpose, Mutant Mayhem could actually make it feel natural something that enhances the characters rather than just existing for drama or tradition. It’s a chance to show that, despite their differences, the Turtles can form meaningful relationships outside their own circle, not by changing who they are, but by finding someone who accepts them for it.

This is not an original observation at all but I cannot stress enough how much the entire main cast of spongebob the musical just looks like your average group of queer people

Like, Patrick is actually just exactly what I (and at least like 40% of all trans men) look like in the summer, I have basically that exact shirt.
Then you've got: musical protagonist twink, voice of reason lesbian, colourful lesbians, squidward, dramatic gay supervillain
