In Focus Manifesting

I just picked up a few new ARCs to read, and I'm really excited about them!

Or, at least, I was until I started reading the first one. The author of In Focus Manifesting is also publishing In focus Shadow work at the same time, so I picked up that ARC too. I was excited to read both bc I haven't read much on either manifesting or shadow work, and was just considering getting into them so the timing was impeccable.

But this book reeks of white, american, christian, holier-than-thou toxic positivity! Not to mention that it's just the law of attraction re-packaged for "the modern witch". Did I mention I'm only 40 pages in?

Now I've lost all hope that the shadow work book is going to be any good.

Obsessed with characters who portray themselves as worse than they are. Who are lying to everyone including themselves about it. People generally assume if someone's lying about themselves they're trying to look better but sometimes they're trying to look worse.
