Hi, I used to draw a lot but I've not drawn/created for a long time now, any tips to get back into it?

Or rather the whole thing about making art for yourself, I used to get a lot of attention for being good at art from other ppl and I'm not sure how to connect it back to myself again

I'm also contending with the Autism "It needs to be done in this way" and the ADHD "I can't focus for shit"

Also please don't worry if you don't know what to say, I'm just trying to get a variety of opinions to try and untangle my brain

i think a good way to get back into creating *for yourself* whether its to come out of a dry spell or just to get back to creating things that you like, is what i call 'backtracking' (bearing in mind that my particular methods may only work for me! im lucky ive never struggled with focus when it comes to drawing things, but maybe some of these things will help as my main goal when drawing is to entertain myself!)

also before i move on this i think is valuable: you gotta draw things that you aren't gonna post sometimes. it's fun and fulfilling to make art for an audience, and wanting attention is not shameful (ITS HUMAN!) but also we live in panopticon times and i think its good to train your "i am alone doing something for myself and no one has to see it" muscles.

backtracking is a couple different things:

look back to when you were really young. what kinds of drawings were the most fun to do? what did you spend time on or get really into? for me, this was a few things! tracing cartoons, drawing up elaborate scenes of lots of little creatures doing a thing, and designing little characters as paper dolls and making their houses and little furniture and accessories and such to cut out and play with. also getting paint all over my hands (i still paint my whole hand whenever im done doing something with acrylics before i wash up! its stimming)! backtracking here is when you try to take those things and make use of them now. try to find that old joy and use it in a way that makes you happy today, even if it's something small or silly or embarrassing. it can really help you rediscover what parts of art make YOU happy!

if you're regularly drawing and in a slump, backtracking for me is stepping back and doing either more exercises and practising the things you feel like you already know how to draw (ie. studying angles of the face or pulling up imgs of rooms on pinterest to see how normal people arrange furniture etc.), or simplifying your drawings to a level that feels more relaxing and less stressful. (ie. chibis instead of more detailed characters etc.) i find i kind of fall back to chibis when i feel lost, and then sort of rebuild from there. its fun to let my style change as i grow!

ALSO! im telling your autism this for your adhd's sake (this is useful for anyone i think): if there is a part of art that you do not enjoy doing or find boring but you feel it is an important or necessary step in the process? the secret is it isnt! art is made up. if you hate lining, dont do it! if youre a digital artist and get caught up picking a brush every time because you feel like you need the perfect one? switch to mspaint for a bit to get the nerves out. it can be really freeing!

art is for having fun and fulfilling our need to create. the rules are all made up and not real. perfectionism is the little death that something something i forget. yeah

The clicking of a keyboard was the only sound to be heard in the otherwise quiet room, broken occasionally by a huff of frustration or a small break where he either cracks his knuckles or takes a sip from the coffee cup perched a little to the side of his main computer screen. He was working on getting through some paperwork since it was much easier to breeze through it at his own pace regularly rather than let it pile up and feel overwhelmed trying to do it all at once.

Lyla, ever eager to poke fun at Miguel, projects a little hologram of herself right in front of his screen, hands on her hips as she smiles widely. Sure she’s glitching a little but that’s just par for the course with her. “COFFEE DOWN, HANDS OUT!” Yells a familiar voice, making Miguel immediately straighten up and put his cup down. His head snaps upwards and his eyes widen at the sight of you, laughing, falling, and narrowly missing the various beams placed above his desk as you hurdled straight towards him. He doesn’t even get a chance to yell back before he has to put his arms out to catch you, mostly out of muscle memory since this isn’t even close to the first time you’ve pulled this stunt.

which btw, they decide to save enough to cook later & let him try bc hes never eaten his own meat or organs before & they think hed prob like to (theyre right).

anyways he only lives long enough to see them eat some of the muscle. but my god he dies happy. so they put everything theyre saving on ice & clean up while they wait for him to respawn. then they clean him up as well once enough of him has regenerated for that to not be Unwise, & they put him in bed & just wait w him til he comes back fully <333

finally deciding to make an about me post yippee yay!!

Hi my name is Crow! Most of what I reblog is fandom stuff, and I jump between fandoms quite frequently <//3 I have a few that I tend to come back to regularly however (Somehow I manage to have a dragon age obsession at least once a year. it is very consistent)

If I don't respond to something, it is either bc 1) I genuinely don't know what to say and social interactions terrify me, 2) I was too tired to respond to something when I saw it then I promptly forgot about it or 3) got anxious and convinced myself that the person who sent it hates me or something. Deepest apologies I'm just awful at stuff like that and have pretty bad anxiety I do try though <//3

I block very very generously! If you do end up blocked by me it may not be for any actually bad reasons, you could have just worded something in a way that mildly annoyed me, please dont take offense to it lmao. Me and the block button are madly in love, and I do not hesitate to press it. Aviae Surana

(she/her)

Aviae is my main dragon age origins oc, and I talk about her quite a bit. Shes specializes in spirit healing/arcane warrior/battle mage. Technically she also takes a little bit of levels into keeper, but I don't really consider it one of her canon class since I never use it with her like I do the others.

She romances Morrigan, and does the dark ritual with her. She puts Alistair on the throne due to her distrust of Anora. She feels guilty about it, but she would do it again in a heartbeat. Her closest friends from Origins are Zevran and Alistair, but she considers all of the people she traveled with dear friends. From the Awakening crew, Anders is practically family to her (they grew up in the Circle together, and shes always considered him like a brother), and Nathaniel becomes someone she ends up relying on. Her and Justice also get along very well, even if they butt heads on occasion.

For important decisions, she sided with the mages, made Bhelen king of Orzammar, made a truce between the Dalish and the werewolves, helped Redcliffe and saved Connor without Isolde dying. She kept Avernus alive (I'm still in the air about whether she allows him to continue his research), let the Architect live as well, and saved Amaranthine. Vigil's keep stood its ground with the upgrades she had provided it.

This is my girl! Sadly I don't have a better reference for her current canon outfit (she has an old outdated reference sheet though), so this will have to do.

In some of the older posts, I refer to her and Alistair as exes. Sadly, while this is a fascinating dynamic, it is not canon anymore. As much as I love Alistair, Aviae would not trust him enough to fall in love with him due to him having trained as a templar. Eventually they become close friends, but never more than that. She is part of my "Mage rights" Worldstate. I tag all of her posts as "oc: Aviae Surana"

Relationships with companions:

Alistair: These two. Most fucked up friendship ever happens between these two. At the start of the game, she's wary of him, due to his templar training, but the two eventually become close friends. Of course, this is completely fucked up by the Landsmeet. Aviae originally tells Anora that she will support her (this is a bold faced lie), and does NOT inform Alistair of her deceit. Then, once actually at the Landsmeet, she puts Alistair on the throne, sucessfully twisting the knife in both alistair AND anora. Two birds one stone, as they say. Trying to make up for it, she promises to help him lead, to stay by his side and advise him. This placates their relationship for a while, making them a bit less awkward around each other. However. However. Aviae lied. Well, she didn't MEAN to lie. But when the final fight is over, Aviae's mental health tanks for the worse, and she struggles coping with Morrigan leaving her. She feels guilty over being alive, all that shit yada yada. She doesn't even stay in denerim a week before she ditches and travels with Zevran (well. It was more of Zevran going "Aviae my dear friend, if you stay here it will kill you. Do you want to stab people. Would that make you feel better. Lets go stab people"). This completely shatters what little of a friendship the two had. When Awakening rolls around about three months later, their reunion is. Tense. And awkward. For everyone there. They don't properly have a conversation after this until many, many years later.

Morrigan: Ohhh these two. Now that im sitting here trying to type something up nothing is coming to me but man. They both longed for freedom most their life; Aviae from the Tower, and Morrigan from her mother. Aviae ends up with a small crush on Morrigan from the moment they meet, and it only grows as time passes. Morrigan takes a bit longer to accept her feelings, but eventually they enter a relationship. Despite the fondness they hold for each other (not that either of them are willing to say it), they argue quite a bit throughout origins. About the mages, about the elves in denerim, about the anvil. Somehow they always end up snapping at each other during this time. Despite it all, they both care so so deeply. And it terrifies both of them. They both have problems admiting how deeply they care (aviae because of growing up in the Circle, Morrigan bc of a multitude of things lmao). On the Eve of the final battle, Morrigan and Aviae do a ritual to keep her from dying. Morrigan admits she plans to leave, and Aviae is hurt beyond words. Despite this, she promises to come after her, and gives her the Warden's Oath (necklace containing blood from the joining) as a token of her love. Morrigan leaving does a number on Aviae's mental health, but the two reunite at the Eluvian and go to raise Kieran together.

a/n: this is a ver self indulging fic. I normally try and characteristics of y/n out, but like i said this is very self indulging. It's just a little drabble i came up with while tryna stop be so insecure abt my hair. Also this was supposed to be posted yesterday but i forgot :)

background info:

you and 'toshi met while he was playing volleyball in poland and recently you guys just moved back to Japan (you are not from japan). Also, Kiyoomi is a single dad.

Since moving to Japan life has been full of seeing new places and meeting 'Toshi's friends and family. It was a fresh start for you considering you have never been to such a foreign place, but you always felt comfortable when you were with Wakatoshi.

It was his idea to move back and you could see how his eyes lit up at the thought. Since coming back 'Toshi has tried to regularly keep in contact with his friends and plan hangouts. Today was one of those days. 'Toshi was going to be going out with his friend, Kiyoomi, for the night and you would stay in and watch his beautiful baby girl. She had the biggest dark brown doe eyes and perfect curls surrounding her face. While the two men were out. Your night was filled with cartoon toys and a very energetic five year old.

You always heard how smart the little girl was through texts and pictures shared between Wakatoshi and Kiyoomi, but you didn't realize it went pass just academics. While pausing the movie to use the restroom Keiko, kiyoomi's daughter, decided to share something.

"y/n chan... do you like my hair?" The little girl asked. Her eyes got bigger beginning to fill with tears. Getting down on your knees you immediately hugged the small child to comfort her.

"ofc i do. Why wouldn't i," you responed. You couldn't believe these thoughts were coming up, and were worried what they would lead too.

"w-well people at my school have been commenting on it. Saying that it's much different then their hair, a-and my papa has hair like me so he wouldn't get it," You hugged the sniffling girl tighter in your arms as she explained. Your heart felt a little tighter hearing her explanation. "i wish i could just have straight hair like you and everyone else,"

Her final sentence is what hurt you the most. For years you have been straighting and doing everything in your power to keep your hair straight. Even keeping it pulled back and braided when you and 'toshi went to the beach. It hurt to hear the little girl having the same thoughts as a grown women like you. Tears started to pool at your eyes but you wanted to appear strong for the little girl in you arms. Leading down to kiss the top of her head you whispered to her, "oh baby... can i tell you a secret," at that her red eyes peered up at you like whatever you said could make of break her whole night. "my hair is actually a lot like yours. more curly then wavy. i'll show you. Come with me."

The little one trailed behind you to the bathroom. Wiping her eyes every once in a while on the way there. You could tell she was skeptical on you, but she would stay silent because she trusted you. She trusted you. The guilt was already beginning to settle in. "do you have a spray bottle," you asked and you placed her on the white counter.

"yeah, papa keeps one in there when he does my hair," she says as she points to the cabinet below the sink. Low and behold there are plenty of hair products made specifically for those with curly hair. You picked up the pink bottle filled with water and began misting your hair. Make sure to get all of it.

"i have very thick hair so you have to be patient okay," Keiko nodded at that and patiently watched you wet your hair as she kicked her feet gently off the counter. "now im gonna separate, brush, and start putting in the curl cream," Taking the brush you began section your hair, putting the cream in, and begin making small tight curls with the brushes handle. In the corner of you eye you could see the little girl watching in awe. It took much longer then you expected after not doing you hair in such a long time. Finally you finished it off with the curling moose, and showed her the final product.

To say Keiko was happy would be an understatement. Her smile was huge and you could see her missing front tooth as she looked at you like you put all the stars in the sky. "you have to pinky promise me that you will never hide your beautiful curls from the world, okay." she nods st your words and begins to hold out her pinky for you to link with. Both of you kiss your thumbs to seal the deal. You spent the rest of the night playing with Keiko and making sure she didn't have any bad thoughts. You on the other hand made sure Keiko couldn't see that you were just as insecure - maybe even more- then Keiko was about your curls.

You felt like a hypocrite. You spent so much of your time straighting and making sure your hair was dried a certain way so that no one could tell your hair was any different from theirs. You hoped that Keiko would never have to experience the things that were said to you. And a little part of you wished you had someone like yourself when you were younger to tell you how pretty your curls were. Sadly, you couldn't bring yourself to accept your curls and planned to wash and redo your hair before the guys came back. You just weren't ready for such a big jump. 'toshi probably wouldn't think you were as beautiful if you showed him your natural hair. He probably would break up with you because they made you ugly, and find another girl with better hair. After moving to Japan your insecurities skyrocked seeing that the standard was to have straight hair. Very rarely did you see a girl with curly hair.

Lost in your thoughts you hadn't heard the front door begin to open untill it was to late. Two six foot tall men came walking into the small home. It was dark and you were frozen in your spot. Keiko immediately ran to her father happy to see him home early. You on the other hand glued to your seat on the floor and kept your back turned from your boyfriend. "y/n...hey" 'Toshi deep voice traveled through the home to were you were seated on the living room floor.

Slowly turning round you saw your boyfriend with his standard expressionless face, but you knew this wasn't his ordinary deadpan look. He was thinking.

Beginning to get worried you stood up and began walking over to him. Ready to explain that you did your hair with a curling iron (toshi knew that those curls could not be made easily with an iron). His mouth opened and closed and then open and closed again like he was trying to say wow. "'toshi it's-"

"you are the most beautiful women i've ever seen, and somehow you just became more beautifuler"

smiling at his response you couldn't help but tell him, "toshi i dont think beaurifuler is a word" giggling a bit at your boyfriend's vocabulary.

"well idk how else to describe you," he responded still with a shocked look on his face but his eyes told you that he was in awe of what he was looking at. "i-is this your natural hair. It's so pretty." You slowly nodded at that pulling in you lips in as you could feel your body heating up. 'toshi made you shy a lot but never this much. looking down you slowly wrapped your self around his waist and pressed your head into his chest. He was your safe place. He always knew the perfect words to say to you, and he definitely had the key to your heart.

Later Kiyoomi came back downstairs after putting Keiko to sleep. "thank you so much. She said you made her really love her curls. Idk what exactly happened, but im glad she's happy with you." Your happy to be with Keiko too. You may have taught her a valuable lesson but she in turn taught you one. You would never hide you curls again, and especially not from your wakatoshi.

hiiiiiiii so um. ik a while back you posted a doodle of yourself with short hair and i’ve been thinking about cutting mine short—do you have any tips about picking a style or anything that might not be obvious about having short hair?

oh fuck yes I do! I've had short-medium hair in a few different styles since I was thirteen (im 20 now, so it's been a while) and I recently buzzed my head for the second time so i'm pretty experienced in this area lol!

first thing you should know is that if anyone has ever suggested that you don't have the "facial structure" for short hair or that you're not gonna look good with it is full of shit. no one tells men they don't have the face for short hair. i promise it's gonna look good. chop that shit off

in terms of style, be aware of the amount of work the style you pick is going to take. when I first cut my hair short the reference photo I gave my stylist was of a heavily styled cut--something that would take gel and hairspray and a lot of effort to maintain every day. The base cut was fine, but it didn't look like my reference photo without a ton of effort on my part, and at 13 I wasn't really willing to put that kind of effort in, so my hair ended up unstyled and kind of flat and weird for a while. if you're someone that doesn't like to put a ton of work into styling their hair every day, pick a style you can just wake up and go with. my personal favorite lazy bitch haircut is the buzzcut that i currently have. insanely low maintenance and comes with the added benefit of stopping weird men from talking to you in public. perfect haircut.

Also be aware of how your cut is going to grow out and/or how often you're going to have to get it trimmed to keep it looking the same way. that was something i remember being really surprised about when i first cut my hair off--when your hair gets to a certain length, it grows more slowly and you don't have to cut it as regularly to maintain its health and your look. when you have shorter hair, your hair grows FAST, and if you're not planning on growing it out you're going to need much more regular trimming to keep it in check. Make sure that that's in your budget or that you have the time and skill to trim it back yourself! Alternatively, if you're planning on growing it out after the cut, look into how it's gonna grow out so you know what to expect in terms of look and styling. I like to buzz my head mid-summer and let it grow out for about a year before shaving it all off again, because I know that I like all the stages of growing out that cut and I know how to style all of them. there's always gonna be an awkward stage of growing out your hair, but make sure that you're not gonna spend a ton of time hating your look just to get your length back if that's your plan!

my final advice: if you're looking for a specifically masculine haircut as an afab person, do not go to the same older female stylist you've been going to since you were 10 years old. trust me. You can show that woman a picture of a whole grown man for reference and you will still be leaving with a karen cut. she is incapable of giving you what you want. Either try to find a stylist who you trust to use your reference faithfully, go to a male barber, or cut it yourself! especially if you're going for a simple buzzcut or something similar, it's really easy to cut your own hair at home with a pair of electric clippers from amazon. I've been cutting my hair with safety scissors and some clippers borrowed from a friend for going on 4 years now. it's easier than you think!! youtube tutorials are your best friend.

now onto things you might not know:

listen to me. this is the single most important piece of advice i can give you. buy spray-on sunscreen and SPRAY YOUR FUCKING HEAD. there is no hell like a peeling sunburn all over your fucking scalp. it will happen and you will not expect it and you will want to die. you are going to think your hair is thick enough that it won't happen and it is going to happen anyway. do not take chances with this shit

you do NOT need nearly as much shampoo and conditioner for a short cut as you are instinctively going to put in your hands after years of having long hair. think, proportionately, about the product-to-hair ratio you were using BEFORE your haircut, and do not squirt out more than like a nickel-sized pool of product at the absolute most. your bank account and your hair will thank you.

short hair still needs to be taken care of especially if you're bleaching/otherwise chemically treating it regularly! if you're putting harsh chemicals in your hair you should be using restorative treatments afterwards regardless of length. no matter how short your hair is it can still get stringy and gross and break!!

in that same vein, you CANNOT be applying bleach to your short hair in the same way you do for your long hair. listen to me. Drugstore bleach cannot be sitting directly on your scalp for more than 20 minutes. if your hair is short, any amount of bleach you put in it is going to end up sitting directly on your scalp. i know it's tedious to do multiple passes but chemical burns are even more tedious. please do not put bleach on your skin

also in regards to bleaching/color, keep in mind that your semipermanent color is probably going to have less longevity in your short hair than it did in your long hair. Since all your hair is close to your scalp now, it's taking the brunt of your shampoo regimen and therefore the dye is going to wash out quicker than it would in long hair where most of the dye is further away from the scalp. if you're regularly trimming your hair to keep it your desired length, you're also going to be cutting out a lot more color than you would by just trimming dead ends on long hair. you may find yourself spending more on hair dye if you dye your hair regularly!

Do you want to know something? I don't actually care if people believe in me or not. That vast majority of people don't know that tulpas exist because it's still pretty niche.

Other people people are aware of bits and pieces but don't get involved and don't believe either. They have their beliefs and keep those to themselves. I can respect that.

These people aren't anti-endos.

But then you have a hate group who have made it part of their identity to spread constant hate and disinformation about us. These are not simply "non-believers." This a group that is united solely by their hatred of us.

And this is probably more controversial in the pro-endo community, but I don’t even mind the "endogenics are all traumagenics in denial" people, in theory. As long as they're respectful and aren't actively spreading hate or standing with those who do.

I say in theory though because practically every one I've actually encountered is still gatekeeping space and resources. And that somehow makes it even worse to me because while disbelieving in endogenic plurality is ignorant, even if willfully ignorant, believing we're confused trauma survivors in denial and still treating us like shit and gatekeeping terms means they're just knowingly hurting other trauma survivors.

Don't you dare try to frame this as me simply going after people for not believing me.

okay so this is a rant and a half bc i’m just so physically, mentally, and emotionally fucking tired.

believe it or not anon, i don’t go out and find frimages specifically for this blog. i literally, on my down time when im bored, or am having a shitty day, just scroll through apps and the internet looking at frank. i save pics to my phone that i like and put them in my frank album bc i enjoy looking at frank iero. i made this blog to scream about frank purely for myself. i didn’t make this blog with the goal of documenting frimages. this is a purely selfish blog. it’s very incredibly cool to me that i have a solid number of followers, but i literally couldn’t give a flying fuck if i have 20 or 2,000. because again. i just like to scream about frank and i tag my shit so i can search back in my blog for a specific pic easier than i can in my photos app regardless of how organized it is.

i have the short term memory of a fucking dusty pecan shell on the side of the road. i mean this in the most respectful way possible, but there is no way in hell i’m going to be able to remember to grab a source link to put in the caption of a frimage i saved to my phone. not for lack of trying, but come the fuck on. i work, go to classes, am a caregiver, and take care of the inside and outside duties of a house. i do so much more than any single person should have to do at 30 and have been for the last fucking decade. i just want to carefree and casually enjoy looking at and screaming about frank iero. this is unfortunately and pitifully one of my only sources of joy and relaxation that i can manage on a remotely regular basis. i can’t tell you the last time i actually had the time or physical or emotional energy to paint or draw or compose/play music. i miss painting. it physically hurts every time i see my grandmothers easel in the corner of my room because she would paint on that regularly and left it to me because i paint just like her. and i can’t even remember the last time i actually used it. because i’m just so fucking tired.

so i’m gonna reiterate again that i have never claimed that any of these frimages are mine, nor will i ever. when the time comes that i take my own pics of frank im very likely not even gonna credit my own damn self and i honestly don’t give a fuck if someone takes my frimage and posts it without crediting me. now if someone knows who originally took a frimage then literally by all means just let me know and i’ll put credits. i’m more than happy to edit a post. people have been kind enough to do so in the past.
