Ikebana Iridescence
Ikebana Iridescence.
I’ve kept this concept in the vault of my ideas for years - combining light with floral arrangements. The art of ikebana was always inspiring. The practice of using natural, found elements in a poetic and sculptural way. With that in mind, I’ve wanted to combine my use of light with it. For years, sketchbook after sketchbook, I’d write in “ikebana! with lights!” but never found it was the right time or even how to execute it. But sometimes you just have to do it and see where it takes you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are many similar sketches and mentions, but just for the process sake these are the more recent ones.
In a way I’ve already frequented the combination of plants and lights - projection mapping on them as well. So the concept isn't entirely new.
Tumblr media
This is a shot as part of an immersive light installation I did for ArtFair14c one year, that I titled "Garden Reverie." But those flowers were fake, of course. Just a reoccurring prop I use as well as my acrylic tubes and random glass boxes I come across. I feel like my tools are less like studio tools and more forgotten things found at a flea market. But I feel like that makes them a little more special; they've been given a new purpose and the purpose is for beauty.
In terms of using real plants and flowers, I created a project a few years ago to project on flowers. I created animations, usually just abstractions, and carefully mapped it onto each one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not sure why I stopped - maybe life got in the way, and maybe I had bigger concepts (in terms of spaces) in mind. But I always meant to get back into it. It wasn't until I actually saw another artist's work that a friend shared with me that was executed beautifully, that really lit a fire under my ass. So I made it the utmost importance to buy some flowers.
What sets this new series apart from the artist's work I saw, and my previous work with plants and lights, is the intentional meaning behind ikebana. With this traditional Japanese floral arrangement, flowers aren't just placed in a vase - it's a meditation. The meditative practice of creating harmonious, visual forms with the flowers. Almost like sculpture and poetry combined. So I tried different combinations, tried to create a unique shape. Then complimented it with light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used some animated projections I’ve made, as well as LEDs and iridescent light play. And it's the first of many.

Punk Ikebana
Reimagining the Art of Floral Design
Louesa Roebuck
Foreword by Obi Kaufmann  Photographs by Ian Hughes

Floral designer Louesa Roebuck shows you how to make transcendent eco-luxe compositions with seasonal flora foraged from the West Coast
"The way of the flowers” has been studied for centuries, but as acclaimed author, artist, and floral designer Louesa Roebuck demonstrates, one needs to understand the rules in order to bend them. In Punk Ikebana, Louesa composes stunning arrangements and installations that unite the cultural traditions and elegance of Japanese perspective with exhilarating freedom from convention. Working with seasonally foraged, gleaned, and sourced flora from various regions of California, Louesa reveals how cinematic floral sculptures can be created by embracing the abundance right outside your door. Inviting nature’s often-overlooked treasures into your space means improvising in a moment of time, in a particular place. Exuberant compositions are created with what is on hand, establishing a harmonious dialogue with the flora, space, color, vessels, and textiles readily available. Aligning her deep commitment to the environment with her love of foraging, gleaning, and sourcing regionally, Louesa inspires you to cultivate your own vision and invite the wonders of the natural world into your home.

Floriography: Resources for Writers
For centuries, flowers, herbs, and other plants have been used to convey meaning, both in life and in literature. Many of the greats, including Shakespeare, Austen, the Brontë sisters, and Steinbeck referred to floral symbolism to delicately weave into their intricate works. Flowers influenced art for generations before us, and with luck, they will continue to inspire artists for generations after us--long after we've become them.

IKEBANA: all you need to know about japanese flower art.
Japanese flower arranging, or Ikebana, has come a long way from its humble roots as temple offerings centuries ago.
Ikebana master Shozo Sato’s first began his mission to explain Japanese Ikebana to Western audiences over 50 years ago. In his latest volume, Ikebana: The Art of Arranging Flowers, he reveals the groundbreaking advances of the last few decades.
In this article, Sato Sensei discusses the different styles of Ikebana, and includes some of the techniques and lessons that you will need to create your own floral art.
Ikebana (生花) means living flowers. The Japanese art of flower arranging has been described as being at once more subtle, more sensitive, and more sophisticated than the methods of arranging flowers usually employed in other cultures. This is so because Ikebana is an art in Japan in the same sense that painting and sculpture are arts elsewhere.
Simple floral arrangements were made as early as the 7th century, when Buddhism was introduced to Japan from China. It was the custom to place flowers before images of the Buddha, and over the centuries these floral offerings acquired a fairly elaborate form.
During Heian times (8th to 12th centuries) it was a common custom to send poetry attached to a flowering branch as an expression of admiration and sentiment.
With the ascendency of the samurai class from the 14th century, feudal lords gained stature and supremacy, and they wished to display their wealth and power. The first tokonoma, or alcoves, were built in their homes and palaces no doubt to display suits of armor, but once the unification of the nation was established and peaceful times arrived, art objects, including flower arrangements, began to be displayed.
The early Buddhist floral decorations were intended to symbolize the idealized beauty of paradise, and as a result they were generally both ornate and sumptuous. The same attributes were preserved in Rikka – the first Ikebana style – which aimed not so much at revealing the beauty of flowers as at using flowers to embody an elevated concept of the cosmos.
Rikka’s structural rules – called positions – guide the basic composition of the style. The nine key positions were developed by the Buddhist monks, who incorporated Buddhist teachings into their flower arrangements.
Ikebana is a visual art that uses plant materials that come in a wide variety of forms. Depending on the materials, artistic judgment must be used to readjust the established forms. In the Rikka style, it is essential that the nine positions be honored; but doing so, with the understand that within this structure there is room for personal expression, is the secret to Rikka.

Floriography of the Flower Bouquet that Frederick gives to Gwen during her dinner party (Gwen's dinner party arc)
Tumblr media
Hello everyone!
I decided to make this CPC-related post to be quite 'short' and the focused one - This post is blossoming due the simple question in the discord CPC server which as following :
i was wondering if anyone knew what flowers those were!! really curious if they have a meaning in flower language or something that could apply here (look at the top image)
Tumblr media
Before going further let me explain first what's "Floriography" means. Floriography is the language of flowers. All flowers hold different meanings (also all flower arrangements is beautiful in their own way! - Saffron), often based on the type of flower, the colour of the flower, or both. And floriography is the art of communicating through different flower types. Once you learn and understand the meaning of flowers, giving flowers as gifts becomes so much more thoughtful as you can convey just how you feel with a bouquet! [taken from this following link : https://www.bloomandwild.com/floriography-language-of-flowers-meaning]
Tumblr media
About Flower Arrangement, there's actually a craft study about it which differentiated to western style (the ones that more familiar to mass as it sold in flower shops at orders) and eastern style (which called as Ikebana). The link if want to know more about Ikebana as following:
Tumblr media
Ikebana (“living flowers”) is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is also known as Kadō (“way of flowers”). The tradition dates back to the 7th century when floral offerings were made at altars. Later, they were placed in the tokonoma (alcove) of a home. In contrast to the western habits of casually placing flowers in a vase, ikebana aims to bring out the inner qualities of flowers and other live materials within certain rules of construction and ultimately – express emotion.
Its materials are living branches, leaves, grasses, and blossoms. Its heart is the beauty resulting from colour combinations, natural shapes, graceful lines, and the meaning latent in the total form of the arrangement. It is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing closeness with nature. Ikebana is a way of arranging flowers according to ancient principles. Branches and flowers are placed at specific angles to represent ten (heaven), chi (earth), and jin (man). The way they’re placed represents the strength, delicacy, and ephemerality of living flowers. Funnily enough, the word ikebana comes from ‘ikuru’ – to live and ‘hana’ – flowers: literally means ‘living flowers’.
IMHO before analyzing the Flowers, I've theorized (or more in sense, as Headcannon) that Frederick has low sense of flower selection (due to being bullied in the military school with the nickname 'Sunflower', he kinda used to think that Flowers are generally negative/mundane things - hence he never bordered to looks deeper in term of Floriography) so it might that he bought (earlier before the trip, as if it happened mid-trip it will pushed his brothers to do the same=which seem that neither Blaine or Lance do it) or brought (Frederick taking some 'random' Flowers in Plaid Palace royal garden, then preparing them himself to make some nice flower bouquet for Gwen ). Frederick's flower bouquet is accentuated simplicity but also some senses of mysteries in there (identifying+recognizing, determining than searching the floriography of the flowers of his bouquet is challenging but not by means something to disliked.. I LOVE IT!! I am not confident with the answers, but deep down I always love flowers and in my College life - I joined study club where one of the task is to determining plant names)
For myself personally I feel the latter (making the flower bouquet himself) is more in-character to him. He's dumb but has big heart + he know some things about making bouquet from all his experiences preparing party. I think it's not hard to imagine that he also the one that preparing the get-off gifts to the guests by preparing bouquets. So, Frederick probably have no thought about the meaning of the Flowers when making the bouquet but he just make sure the flower bouquet for Gwen will be presented nice. Although to answer the question, I have my own intake which as following!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So.. if I could make the conclusion (is more theory, as I am not 100% sure) - The flowers that Frederick tried to give to Gwen during the dinner party and their meanings :
Tumblr media
Angel breath or Baby breath: symbolyzes Innocence
Tumblr media
Heather flower: Admiration, Good Luck, Protection powers
(1) The White clusters : probably Heather and Angel breath; Innocence, Admiration, Good luck, Protection powers
Tumblr media
(2) The Green clusters - as imho those are not leaves, it looks like some cluster of flower petals : Bells of Ireland ; Great way to ease worries (or own wedding day espc), symbolize luck
Tumblr media
(3) The Orange clusters - the hardest one as have many option and need to search the meaning - but if I limited to choose only one then I'll pick Pansy; The word “pansy” is derived from the mid-15th century French word “penser,” which means to think or ponder. The pansy flower meaning can differ according to the color variety. The Orange pansy flower isn’t as common as some other colors, but usually, they are going to symbolize joy, happiness, and optimism. Orange pansies are often used in salads as edible decorations. *hence silly comedy that comes to my mind: Frederick also giving those orange pansy as addition (or garnish) to the salad menu for Gwen's dinner party
So those are all there!
As always if wanna see the full conversation rather than the compiled version, just heads up to the discord https://discord.com/channels/825884625087758347/825884835481911337/1087831356811255938

Words from Nukoduke, vol. 5, part 2
Words in bold are particularly relevant to the story, and words in italics seem like they’d be worth remembering outside the context of the manga. Bold and italic together means they’ve probably appeared somewhere in Nukoduke more than once. Kinda long list but it’s for a whole volume… actually it’s too long for tumblr, so splitting into three parts.

Abriendo flores hacia atrás
Tumblr media
A veces queda decapitada. You like… rotting in your bed. When was… the last time you were fed enough love? Enough love, but instead, you pretend like you are dead[1].
✿ ✿ ✿
No pude permanecer viéndola.
I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand, talk to myself for hours, say things you won’t understand[3].
✿ ✿ ✿
I kept them as tokens of affection.
God loves you, but not enough to save you, so baby girl, Good luck taking care of yourself[4].
✿ ✿ ✿
Take my blood instead of wine[5].
Mártir petrificado. Flor cortada. Amante perdido. Siente la presencia de un ser querido.

"¡Feliz Navidad!
