Eleanora Sevenard recently replaced Eva Sergeenkova in La Bayadere and I have to say that I’m quite impressed! I think Sevenard had been out with an injury recently and has been rehabbing. Clearly, she is back in looking very lovely. But I read that this was her second performance ever?! Can that be true? I’ll do a look back online, but if so, it’s quite an extraordinary performance.

One of the greatest ballet recordings of all time is Marco Spada with David Hallberg, Evgenia Obraztsova, Semyon Chudin, Olga Smirnova, and Igor Tsvirko from 2013. Everything about it is flawless and I can't really watch any Marco Spada without comparing it to that performance. No one can or will come close.

I’m very much pleased with Sevenard’s improvement in the role of Kitri. She basically reposted the whole thing in her IG stories and I’m even surprised she progressed so much! It’s the first time I enjoyed her Kitri. I would like to hear your opinion on it ❤️
Sevenard is GOOD. Like really good. Especially in roles like Kitri that suit her strengths as a technician, she really shines. She even upped the ante in her first act variation, throwing in an extra speedy pirouette dégagé in the middle! Unique! Classy! But I was even more impressed with her improved cleanliness throughout. She changed some transitions to suit her better, she looks much more turned out and refined. Love to see not only intelligent dancing but intelligent coaching and preparation.
About her Dulcinea. The first sections look so much better, so much more precise with her pointe work, her relevé, and her poses. Now she made a crazy turning combination with Italian Fouette+ Temps relevé through arabesque+ Pirouette. Absolutely madness, I can't even imagine the strength she has to get through that. A bit surprising that she doesn't want/ can't do the fermé fondu but shrug? Now what she put in is not the original choreography...but I'd rather see a whole new, exciting section done well than her struggling through the old choreography or choreography heavily simplified or reduced to make a boring composition (thinking of Khoreva's DQ)
And someone finally got her to chill with the fouettes and she did a much more reasonable combination, wonderfully timed. Now honestly, I would bet that she could probably do 32 counts of doubles, but not after 2+ hours of dancing on dead legs. Save it for IG, or maybe, maybe, for a gala.
Also, I know she and Rodkin are supposed to be the BT's 'it couple' right now, but she looked so much more engaged dancing with Tsvirko. He's got so much energy on stage and she just blossomed next to it!

I know you said we should not be using common sense when predicting bolshoi broadcast performance but a little surprised for the rubies section you didn’t predict ovcharenko and krysanova. Are they not favored by management anymore?
Oh no, they're definitely well-liked by management and by the audience too. I made those predictions before knowing that they're casting some people the second time in the same ballet, which was unprecedented. Krysanova danced Rubies in the 2014 broadcast, so I thought it would be different this time. Kretova and Tsvirko have been dancing Rubies a lot recently, more so than Krysanova and Ovcharenko, although that's partly because Krysanova was injured a while back. Knowing what we know now, it's definitely possible that Krysanova and Ovcharenko are dancing Rubies in the coming broadcast (they're dancing Rubies on Nov 11), but I think Kretova and Tsvirko also have equal chances. We also know that the Bolshoi is not against casting Tsvirko in broadcasts, and IMO they have a lot more choices for Rubies than for Spartacus. Spartacus is one of BT's staple ballets after all, it has a special status and perhaps Grigorovich has some influence over the broadcast casting and specifically asked for certain people. So maybe Jewels would be an entirely new cast. Idk.

Krysanova sailed through the challenging choreography, having swiftly exchanged her heeled character shoes for pointe shoes. She is a truly versatile dance-actress – and, as Jeanne, a headstrong partisan of the revolution.

Marco Spada Updates!
The Bolshoi has released their casting for the revival of Marco Spada in June and I’m excited for 99% of them!
I am excited for all the Angelas: Evgenia Obraztsova, Ekaterina Krysanova, Eleonora Sevenard, and Elizaveta Kokoreva.  I am sad that Kristina Kretova isn’t cast as Angela because she did dance her in 2013, but oh well.
I’m excited for 3 out of 4 of the Marco Spadas: Artemy Belyakov, Artem Ovcharenko, Dmitry Smilevsky, and Igor Tsvirko.  This role doesn’t seem to suit Tsvirko because it’s so elegant petit allegro and he is not that type of dancer.  Idk, maybe he’ll be amazing.
The Marquise Sampietris are okay: Eva Sergeyenkova, Alena Kovaleva, Maria Vinogradova, and Kristina Kretova.  I don’t really have feelings about this except for my general feelings about these dancers as a whole.
Prince Fredericis are cast okay: Semyon Chudin, Klim Efimov, Dmitry Vyskubenko, and Denis Zakharov.  Obviously it’s amazing Chudin is dancing this role again because he’s so good at it.  I like Zakharov, don’t know much about Vyskubenko, and Efimov never impresses me.
So as a whole, I think it’s shaping to be a great showing and I’m so glad Marco Spada is back!!!

In a recent interview, Igor Tsvirko addressed why he and his wife, Evgenia Savarskaya, have left the Bolshoi.
Here are some key points:
They left the Bolshoi because they were ready for a change.
The rumour that the two have left because Savarskaya had trouble securing solos is false: “Of course soloist parts aren’t given out straight away [at the Bolshoi], but she had managed to dance quite a few of those in the last seven years.”
The rumour that the two have left because there’s bad blood between Igor and Vaziev is also false: “He was very supportive. Thanks to him I got to dance my dream role: Spartacus.”
Igor and his wife would like to eventually work in America, but wanted to try their luck in Europe first.
They think that life in Europe will be calmer than it is in Russia: “No rat race. You don’t feel like you’re constantly trying to survive”. Though he admits that his perception of Europe may prove to be incorrect.
They chose Hungarian State Opera because they both managed to secure contracts with that company. They don’t care much about salaries and are more interested in art and interesting repertoires. Igor is excited about the opportunity to dance in “Mayerling”.
The persistent rumours that male leads in “Nureyev” were initially required to dance naked are completely false.
No, Igor doesn’t know what the hell happened with that production or why it was delayed.
The rumours that Tsiskaridze will soon take over the Bolshoi’s management and that Ovcharenko will subsequently leave the company are just that - rumours.
Igor may return to the Bolshoi for some performances this autumn.
Some words of wisdom from Igor:
“Don’t read ballet forums. They are full of bile and misinformation.”
Igor on why the Bolshoi is constantly plagued by scandal:
“Because it’s the Bolshoi - the golden standard, the great, legendary theatre. Many different people work there, many different events happen around it. This leads to all sorts of situations. “
