Peter:we don’t really know anything about his family

Sirius: comes from The most ancient and noble house of Black, extreme blood supremacists, there is a lot of incest to stay pureblood, his mother (Walburga) uses crucio on him (a torture curse that is seen as an unforgivable in the wizarding world), she is cruel both psychologically and physically, his dad (Orion) doesn’t do anything, he doesn’t even care, they still do arranged marriages in his family (again for the whole pureblood thing), Sirius has a brother named Regulus, Regulus has been mad at Sirius since he ran away because he didn’t take him with him, Regulus and Sirius are very close but they have a very very complicated relationship

-Remus is very close to the nurse that takes care of him after the full moon (Poppy), he almost considers her like a mom

-Sirius is extremely close to one of their professors (Minerva McGonagall), he totally considers her like his mother and she kind of does too (he calls her ‘’Minnie’’)

-James and Sirius bully Snape

-James and Lily are married and have a son(Harry)

-Sirius goes to prison (Azkaban) for 12 years for the murder of James,Lily and Peter(he’s innocent), he escapes

-Peter betrays the rest of the Marauders, he tells Voldemort where James and Lily are, Voldemort kills them, then Peter cuts one of his fingers off so it seems like he died and resumes his life in the form of his animagus

-Remus gets married to Nymphadora Thonks and has a child named Teddy

-Sirius dies a little after coming back from Azkaban

-Remus and Nymphadora die fighting in the war

- I know you’ve probably been recommended to read All the Young Dudes by mskingbean89 but I’d recommend you don’t actually, I believe it doesn’t capture the dynamic between the Marauders well, I also feel like the descriptions of the characters in it are not good but if you don’t mind that, it’s still really well written

regulus ran his gaunt fingers through his dark, untamed curls, pulling at them. a sob shook his petite figure, causing him to hug his knees, and press his eyes onto them. “i’m sorry, sirius, i’m so sorry. i’m gonna make this right- i’m- i’m trying.” regulus knew well enough that he’d never be the perfect little brother sirius expected him to grow into. he knew that sirius would forever see him as a people pleaser, as the person who bowed down to his parents, as the person who gave into the darkness and allowed it to control him. but now he knew. he knew that everything he did was vile, evil, it was not good. it was what sirius had constantly earned him about as a child. “one day, one day, they’re going to make you do things, reggie. they’re going to make you hate me, they’re going to drag you into the darkness, but you have to resist. you have to fight against them.” but regulus was nothing but a child, he never understood the complex words that came out of his brother’s mouth. six year old regulus would always have the same reply. “i could never hate you!” regulus could never see what sirius saw in him.

“you say i’m not alone, but i’m petrified”

“you’ll never be alone, reg, ever! i’ll always be here for you! and if i’m not, you could look up at the sky and talk to the stars, because after all, i am a star! i’m sirius! forever close to you.” he would giggle at his own jokes, and regulus would follow. not because he found sirius funny, but because sirius’ smile alone was as bright as a star. yet, he couldn’t feel more alone. he was so hyper aware of the cold tiles beneath him, grazing his thighs whenever he repositioned himself. loneliness sounds like such an easy thing to fix. just find a friend, reach out to someone. every time regulus tried to speak to any of his so called friends, they’d recoil. loneliness was his constant poison, and it petrified him. how long till it kills him? how long till he can’t handle it anymore? all he could do during those long black hours was to find an enclosed place, similar to the one he is in now, and wait the panic and tears away. even the stars were taken away from him. when he looked up, he saw nothing but the tall, rich ceilings.

“you say that you are close, is close the closest star?”

the night sky is how he came to wish to fly. he wanted to whisper to the stars, because he knew they would listen. they felt loving when the world felt so devoid of love. but the mere knowledge that even the closest star was way too out of his reach was like a blade embedded in his guts, twisting at the thought. sirius was so far away from him him. the ropes that once tethered the two brothers together, rendering them inseparable, were now slashed. walburga being the criminal. even if sirius happened to be in the same house as him, he could never bring himself to confront him, it was too hard. he had fucked up. no, they had fucked him up.

“you just feel twice as far, you just feel twice as far”

there is comfort that only those we love can give us, regulus knew that better than anyone. was the phantom of sirius’ hand on the back of his neck fresh and not imagined? it couldnt be. as a replacement, regulus would find himself raising his delicate hands trying to tenderly wrap them around the closest star. but instead, he was trading the hope of comfort for a drowning sense of agony. sirius truly was twice as far. nothing could substitute the feeling of being in his brothers arms once more. for he knew that sirius had warm shoulders to lean on, leaving his own eternally cold. it only pained him to dwell on such thoughts, so instead, he would look for comfort in other things, again. with his silk robes feeling heavy around him, he’d tuck himself into sirius’ bed. regulus wouldnt really sleep. when the rare opportunity arose, and he had fallen asleep, he would fall into a tangle of menacing shadows and phantom hands, of a steady weight against his skull, and tainted laughter.

I feel like they definitely played the cheating storyline out more with Archie and that makes sense. For Betty it was a moment that she instantly regretted and I hope that is taken into consideration when Jug finds out. Honestly i feel like Jughead should be more mad at Archie because he continued to pursue it with no consideration for his friend or Veronica and Veronica was so mature about it which I found really refreshing but like also that scene in the last episode where Varchie was faking it was cringe for sure. Long story short it's not easy to forgive anyone for cheating but at least Betty knew it was wrong, nipped it in the bud and said I'm going to stick with the one I love. Even if it took her a little too long to tell Jug about it

oof, archie’s narrative after that was so...not well done? like, i watched it. they had him sitting on his bed writing that song near a picture of veronica then set that song down by another picture of her? how was that not deliberate? 

my heart was dying for veronica. 

(caveat: i’m not saying either one of them made good choices) 

i think i said it after i watched it but if their goal was to make us think that archie was pining for betty after that, i would have believed them at the time. i think they’ve chosen a different route now but the last couple of episodes made it more about archie and fred and other stuff rather than archie/betty/veronica. 

i’m putting the rest under a cut because i am verbose and want people to be able to scroll on by my absurdity: 

the cynical side of me looks at riverdale’s sexism and feels like they originally painted archie as sort of a victim in all of it. oh noes, he loves veronica but he also loves betty who rejected him for his best friend. poor puppy archie. 

from a writer’s (male, of course) perspective, i can see this. the mister watches a lot of shows i end up hating because he’s a very casual viewer who absorbs nothing about the media he’s engaging with (literally the only strong opinions he has on fandom anything is that harry and ginny are mismatched, is irritated they left peeves out of the movies, wants a whole book on regulus black, and loves hermione) and the shows he watches do this a lot. there is a whole narrative of those wily females leading men on instead of the female perspective of women choosing for themselves. 

which is, to us (and the majority of riverdale’s audience) that betty picked jughead because that’s who she loves. if they wanted to make archie sympathetic or relatable (and i think they succeeded somewhat because look at the betty hate vs archie hate—the one who wanted to continue their weird hand holding adventures and wrote her a “pls let’s bang” song) then they should have made it a much deeper and more nuanced story line over s4. 

so that betty was like, no, we shouldn’t, it wasn’t taken by a lot of the b/archie fandom as betty saying she wasn’t interested after realizing she made a mistake, it was seen as her rejecting him. 

if i were jughead, i’d want to know why someone continued to try and pursue my girlfriend. like, take out the mistakes my hypothetical gf makes, right? that’s between me and her. i’d want to know why my best friend was still going after her. so yeah, take the bughead out of it because that’s bughead’s business, i’d be like, excuse me?? 

and it might be why the story line hit more with you for archie than betty, tbh. it’s easy to understand unrequited feelings vs someone choosing someone else. which is how that episode came off. 

for betty, her not telling anyone makes sense for me character wise. she represses like she’s gotta pay a dollar for each feeling she deals with. she did it in s2, she did it with her dad. with her mom. with polly. with jughead after he broke up with her in s2. it’s her go to. i don’t know how many of you are people pleasers but as a repression olympics gold medalist myself, it’s way easier to internalize and compartmentalize than it is to hurt someone else. especially if you care about them. which, i know people are gonna be like, but she gets mad and let’s everyone know it. but like, yeah, her anger is often about how other people are being treated vs herself. s1 betty wasn’t ripping up her palms because she was allowed to express herself, you know? 

i don’t know what riverdale is gonna do tbh, but yeah, veronica’s maturity and grace is astounding. i’m not going to give betty hell for not telling veronica (that’s archie’s place and as far as we know, she doesn’t know veronica knows yet) but veronica is the mvp right now.😩
