There you go, anon. Riddlecrow enjoying a more or less scenic view of Gotham together! 🖤🤍
Idk guys, I'm not particularly vibing with this one. I think I might have included too many details? Or perhabs too little? Maybe I placed the buildings awkwardly, or simply messed up the rain effect? It just looks kind of sloppy to me 🤔

First Choice III
[ Chapter 3 : The Burden of Promises ]
You resolved to start fresh, determined to leave the past behind. Meanwhile, his actions only deepened your confusion, leaving you puzzled about his intentions and why he couldn’t let you move on.
PAIRING : Jacaerys Velaryon x Fem!Reader
WARNING : Kiss, Targaryen Incest, Non-canon
AN : It’s giving me so many emotions right now. The scene I’ve envisioned in my head is making me internally scream with excitement. I hope you enjoy this piece of writing.
CONTENTS : Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4
please be kind to me English is not my first language.
“Why am I here?” you questioned yourself while at the celebration for Corlys Velaryon’s naming day. You barely knew anyone present. You were invited to the event with Jacaerys, who was now dancing with your cousin. Lucerys was talking with Corlys, and you felt out of place among the shipbuilders who eyed you with a somewhat menacing look.
Once you felt you weren’t being watched, you discreetly slipped away from the celebration. You had heard a lot about this place, High Tide, a castle built by Corlys. You decided to explore a bit, enjoying a sip from the drink you had brought from the party.
The castle had a distinctive scent, characteristic of its coastal location. It was quite damp and musty, but the people had been welcoming. After wandering for a while, you thought it might be time to return to the great hall.
Opting for the quieter balcony walkway, you enjoyed the romantic view of the sea at night. The moonlight reflecting off the water created a diamond-like sparkle. As you noticed a couple ahead, you decided to let them pass before continuing.
However, you encountered your betrothed and Baela, who were very close to each other. It was impolite to spy, but they were clearly visible despite the darkness. The prince leaned in close to her, and you were shocked. The drink in your hand fell, causing them to separate and turn towards you. Ignoring the spilled drink, you hurried back to your room.
Unfamiliar with the layout but still finding your way with accuracy, you rushed to your room, the prince following and pleading for you to stop. You ignored him, entered your room, and locked the door. You collapsed on the floor and cried, despite his pleas to open the door and explain. Eventually, the knocking stopped. You lay on your bed, exhausted from crying and unsure of what to do next.
You spent the entire night crying and avoided leaving your room due to swollen eyes. You told the maid that you were unwell and requested breakfast in your room. According to the schedule, you were to leave today, which you planned to do after bidding farewell to Lord Corlys. You applied a cold compress to your eyes, which improved slightly by morning. Dressed and ready, you went to the great hall to say your goodbyes. Jacaerys watched you, and for the first time, you saw him separate from Baela. You chose to ignore it and planned to address everything properly upon returning to Red Keep.
“How was Driftmark, Your Highness?” Vidah asked as you rushed into her embrace. She held you tightly, sensing your distress.
“It was awful, Vidah.” you sobbed. “So very awful.”
“I understand, Your Highness.” she said soothingly, guiding you to sit on the bed. “Please, tell me what happened.”
“He… he almost kissed Baela,” you said, your voice shaking with emotion. “I don’t know what to do. I know he doesn’t love me, but I can’t seem to get over it.” You buried your face in her lap, the tears flowing freely.
“We can’t control our feelings.” she said gently, stroking your hair. “Sometimes, the best thing is to let things unfold as they will.”
“I’m thinking of ending the engagement or at least letting him be with someone he truly cares about while we’re married.” you said, lifting your tear-streaked face to look at her. “I need to find someone I truly love, someone who makes me feel the way he never could.”
“Have you truly made up your mind, Your Highness?” Vidah asked, carefully wiping away your tears. “Then be resolute and act on it.”
“I just can’t bear to see him right now, or for some time.”
“Promise me, Your Highness, that you’ll only take a brief respite and not avoid the problem forever.”
“Yes.” you agreed, your voice firm despite the lingering sadness. “I promise.”
Every practice, you were absent. Every sword duel, you stayed away. Whenever Jacaerys was around, you were nowhere to be seen. You went out of your way to avoid him, sometimes even retreating to Helaena’s quarters to dodge his attempts to catch you.
Two weeks had passed since your return from Driftmark, and you remained resolute in your avoidance. You found refuge in Aemond’s library, more than ever before. Your brother, perceptive as ever, noticed something was amiss but chose not to pry.
“Sister.” Aemond remarked as he entered the room, his gaze shifting to you with a touch of amusement. “You seem to be avoiding the sun these days.” He selected a book from the shelf and settled beside you. You closed your own book and looked up at him.
“I simply prefer the quiet of the castle.” you said.
“Very well.” Aemond replied, flipping through the pages of his book. “He’s been pestering me about your whereabouts so much that it’s disrupted my training.”
“He doesn’t know I’m here, does he?”
“I told him you were in the castle.” Aemond admitted, “but I made it clear he wasn’t welcome in this room.” He glanced at you briefly before returning to his reading.
“Don’t you want to know why I’m avoiding him?”
“I have no desire to delve into your personal affairs.” he said nonchalantly. “By the way, Father wants us to join him for dinner tonight.”
“Again?”
“It’s just once a week.” he said with a smirk. “And don’t forget to sit next to your fiancé.”
“I’m not feeling well, I can’t go.”
“Stop being irresponsible.”
“Fine.” you said, standing up and returning the book to its place. “At least it will give me the chance to confront him directly.”
“You mean about how much you adore him and wish to marry him?” Aemond teased with a chuckle.
“No, I intend to end the engagement.” You thanked him for the book and left, determined to face the confrontation head-on.
“Stop staring at me, Prince.” you said, struggling to keep your voice steady as you sliced through the meat on your plate. The dinner conversation felt like a monotonous drone, and you were eager to escape.
“Uh.. I’m sorry.” he said, a flash of surprise crossing his face. “Would you care to dance?”
You placed your utensils down deliberately. “Yes, Prince.”
Despite the turmoil within you, you knew you had to confront him. It was time to face the issue directly.
“I believe we should annul our engagement.”
“What?” His eyes widened in shock.
“We need to end it.”
“No, no. Why would you want that?”
“You have feelings for Baela, and I’m clearly not the one you desire.”
“And how do you plan to achieve that? No one defies the king’s command.” he retorted, a tinge of anger in his tone.
“What about the prize from the hunting competition?” you suggested. “We haven’t claimed anything yet.”
“No way.” he declared, abruptly halting their dance. “If you believe you can wield that as leverage to dissolve our engagement, you are sorely mistaken.” With that, he turned on his heel and strode away, leaving you alone and bewildered in the midst of the dance floor.
You returned to the dinner table, where everyone’s eyes were on you.
“It’s nothing.” you said, trying to sound nonchalant. “He just remembered something he forgot.” As everyone resumed their conversations, you were left to ponder your next move. If he wouldn’t end the engagement through negotiation, how would you achieve it? You were willing to let him follow his heart, but the pain of watching him with someone else was a bitter pill to swallow. Love was proving to be a labyrinth of difficult choices and tangled emotions.
You awoke in an unfamiliar yet oddly familiar setting—an ancient, stone castle. This was Dragonstone, the venerable seat of your family. Before any questions could form or confusion set in, the door creaked open, and Jacaerys appeared.
“Where are the others?” you inquired, sitting up in bed.
“It is only us and the servants for now.” he answered, setting a tray of food on a nearby table. “We shall remain here together for a spell.”
“Did you abduct me here?” You sprang from the bed, attempting to make your way to the door. “Mother will certainly scold me.” But his swift hand seized your arm, causing you to stumble and fall into his embrace.
“No one will reprimand us.” he declared firmly, his voice resolute. “It is the king’s decree. Upon our return to the Red Keep, we shall wed.”
“And you did not refuse this arrangement?” you questioned, struggling against his grasp. His strength held you firmly in place.
“I desire to marry yo.,” he stated plainly. “That is why I did not refuse.”
“But I no longer wish for it. Release me.” you demanded, writhing in his arms. “Though I once loved you, if your affections lie elsewhere, you should set me free.”
“I love you.” his confession stilled you. “I cannot bear the thought of losing you.”
“How am I to believe your words?” you asked, your voice trembling. “I witnessed you nearly kiss Baela.”
“If you had truly observed, you would have seen a mere insect upon her, which I was brushing away.” he explained, loosening his hold. You stepped back, maintaining a safe distance where his presence could no longer impose upon you.
“How can I trust you?” you inquired. “I have never felt the depth of your love.” He stepped closer, and you instinctively retreated.
“I have realized that I cannot endure the thought of you betrothed to another. I cannot bear the notion of you not being my wife.”
“Enough.” you interjected. “We shall discuss this later. I am hungry and wish to partake of my breakfast.”
“Of course, Your Highness.” he said with a slight bow, drawing out a chair for you at the table. He seated himself opposite you, his gaze unwavering as you ate.
After the meal, you resolved to bathe and change attire. You remembered being brought here upon Vermax, recalling only drifting into slumber and awakening in this new setting. He claimed to love you, but how could you trust his words?
He had been unkind, maintaining a delicate boundary between you—never more than friends or siblings. Now, his declarations of love seemed contradictory. Perhaps you had misjudged his intentions.
Donning a casual yet elegant dress, reminiscent of those worn in King’s Landing, you awaited his presence. The door opened to reveal Jacaerys. He nodded to the departing maid and approached you. You remained by the window, contemplating your next move.
“Is escape truly impossible?” you asked, turning to him. “I rode Vermax with you.”
“Indeed, you cannot escape.” he replied, closing the distance between you. “Nor can you evade me.” His fingers gently lifted your chin, leaning in close.
“Is this truly what you desire?” you questioned, meeting his gaze as he drew near.
“I desire you.” he murmured, inching closer until you turned your face away and stepped out of the room, not daring to look back. Your cheeks flushed and your heart raced uncontrollably.
“I… I am heading to the library.” you declared, exiting swiftly. Though his charm was undeniable, you resolved not to be easily swayed. He might be feigning affection to secure your marriage, but you intended to make your decision on your own terms.
Upon entering the library, you took a moment to admire its quiet charm before selecting a few volumes to peruse. Soon, Jacaerys entered, but he did not intrude; instead, he settled himself with some paperwork, a reminder of his princely duties. As you both worked in silence, the library’s serene atmosphere seemed to hold a delicate tension.
The peaceful scene was disrupted by the subtle, but persistent, awareness of Jacaerys’s gaze. Each time you glanced up from your book, you would catch him watching you with a mixture of curiosity and something more tender. The dissonance between your practiced composure and the fluttering hope in your heart left you at a loss. Could it truly be that the man you had admired from afar for so long might harbor affection for you in return?
“What are your thoughts on where we might travel after our wedding?” Jacaerys’s voice broke the silence, his words punctuating the stillness. “Pentos, for instance, has a certain appeal.”
“I cannot say.” you replied, closing your book with a thoughtful sigh. “I have yet to see much of the world beyond these walls. My experience is limited to the confines of King’s Landing and the occasional hunt.”
“Would you like to explore all the realms?” he inquired, his tone hopeful.
“Are you suggesting we visit all seven kingdoms?” You approached his desk, curiosity piqued.
“If that is your desire, I shall ensure it is so.” he promised.
“You must keep your word.” you said firmly, standing before him. “Do not break it as you have before.” You turned back to your seat, attempting to re-engage with your reading. The memory of past promises lingered, and Jacaerys, ever perceptive, noticed your pretense.
The prince rose and approached, seating himself beside you on the sofa. His presence was both comforting and unsettling. You shifted slightly, accommodating his proximity. Resting his head gently on your shoulder, he took your hand in his, clasping it with a reassuring warmth.
“I owe you an apology.” he said, his voice low and earnest. “I was at fault. I failed to prioritize you as you deserved.”
“I was never your first choice.” you replied softly. “Could you place me at the forefront of your considerations?”
“From this moment forward, you shall always be my foremost thought.” he assured you, pressing a tender kiss to your neck. “It may seem strange, but my affection for you has been steadfast for some time. You have held a special place in my heart.”
“But when you appeared to disdain me, you would not even converse with me.” you said, a hint of sadness in your voice.
“I was uncertain of how to approach you.” he confessed. “You have grown into such grace and beauty, and I was at a loss as to how to act with the woman I love.” His lips traveled a gentle path from your collarbone to your neck and then to your cheek.
“Someone might witness us.” you protested gently. “This could cause complications.”
“Let them see.” he said with quiet determination.
“I am not ready.” you said, rising and retreating to your chamber. You locked the door behind you, leaving Jacaerys standing alone. In the solitude of your room, the lines between affection, duty, and his true intentions remained blurred. Your heart was a tumult of conflicting emotions, and trust in his promises was still elusive.

Miami Grand Prix “Holy shit, those fuckers are fast.”
Lando barely looked up from where he lay on the bed with his head hanging off the end. He wasn’t interested in what you were doing, he was in a world of his own and wallowing with a bag of rainbow Twizzlers. Charles’ mood wasn’t much better after his 7th place finish, thanks to another famous Ferrari strategy, but he did turn away from his phone for a second to see what you were looking at on your laptop.
You were busy reading the data from the race and watching the replay, trying to find any room for improvement, but it wasn’t looking promising. Your pencil could attest to that as it began falling to pieces from where you chewed on the end of it and you weren’t going to be able to make many more notes with it.
Pausing the video, you grabbed your phone and called Max. “What the hell kind of rocket did Newey build?”
“Hello Max, how are you? I’m great, thanks for asking,” Max huffed, making you roll your eyes.
“I drove perfectly today, and I couldn’t get within 25 seconds of you. I just don’t understand it. Can you send me your data?”
You clenched your teeth at the scoff he made. “You know I can’t do that. And don’t even try the whole ‘but I’m your sister’.”
“But I am your sister, and it’s so humiliating to go from racing for first place to just racing for the bottom step of the podium.” Your hand tightened around your phone and your eyes burned even after screwing them closed. “Please, Max.”
“I can’t,” he said quietly. “But…if you visit P on Wednesday while I’m at the factory the sim might be left in the race set up.”
Charles jumped at the squeal you gave. “Thank you, thank you. You’re my favourite brother again.”
You hung up the phone after a quick goodbye but your smile disappeared at the shake of Lando’s head. “What?”
“Humiliated with third place,” he muttered as he looked to Charles for back up. “Is she serious?”
“I think so, but you know what Max is like when he doesn't win.”
“He throws a tantrum, I’m not throwing a tantrum - I just want to know how to do better. I need to show Red Bull that it should be me in that seat.”
“Okay, and then what? What happens if they offer it to you? You know how toxic that place was, you know how bad it was for your health - how can you want that again?” Lando took your phone and dropped it on the bedside drawer as he knelt beside you. “Answer me.”
“I don’t want the seat,” you corrected him, kneeling so you were eye to eye. “I just want to prove the point.”
“What point is that? Everyone already knows you are the best driver, you’re the World Champion.”
You felt your hands turn to fists at your side as they began to tremble and you were unable to control the outburst that followed. “That it wasn’t the fucking car, Lando! You think I don’t hear them all talking behind my back, saying anyone could have won if they had my car.”
“Woah, let’s just cool down,” Charles interjected with a hand on each of your shoulders.
“No, Char, I am going out of my mind here. I have had to sit through interviews and read news articles getting absolutely slated by reporters telling me I’m nothing without the Red Bull seat.” You fell back on the pillows and bundled one to your chest as you turned away from your boyfriends. “I know third place is something to celebrate, but this is about more than winning.”
Charles’ hand came to rest on your hip and he gave it a gentle squeeze. “Come on, mamor, let’s go get you some chocolate.”
“I’m not on my period,” you grunted as you shook his hand off you. “Are you trying to be condescending or is this just coming naturally?”
“I was trying to be nice, but you want to act like a spoiled child. Lando, coming?”
You felt them both climb off the bed and felt their absence like a punch to the gut. You clenched the pillow tighter to your chest as silence filled the hotel suite but it didn’t replace them.
“Fuck,” you swore as you threw the pillow across the room, launching them all one after another as waves of emotions crashed over you. They didn’t like losing either so surely they could understand why you felt the way you did - but obviously they did not. Exhausted from the race, and argument, you collapsed in the middle of the bed and bundled yourself into the blankets, wrapping them tightly around you. Within seconds you were fast asleep, but it wasn’t a restful sleep - not when you were alone.
You felt even more exhausted when you woke to the pre-dawn light filtering through the gap in the curtains. Soft snores sounded beside you and you found Lando and Charles cuddled for warmth since you were still wrapped tighter than a burrito in the blankets. The fact they had returned to you and not one of the other beds in the suite eased something strange in your chest and you knew you had to make it up to them. You didn’t know what came over you, but you had been a bitch to Charles especially.
You carefully laid the blankets over them and closed the door behind you.
The streets were busy for the early hour and as the sun broke the horizon you wandered aimlessly until a scent caught your attention. You followed the saliva-inducing smell until you reached a large square with a market setting up in the centre of it. Key Lime pies and Cuban sandwiches made your stomach grumble while the fresh fish and stone crabs had the opposite effect.
Shopping bags dug into your wrist as you tried to carry them and balance the extra large pie, but you managed to make it back to the hotel suite without dropping either. Charles was in front of the coffee machine that was warming up with a whirring noise but he moved the instant he saw you walk in.
“Where have you been, chérie?” he asked as he took the Key Lime pie and placed it on the table before helping take the bags of fresh fruit and hot sandwiches too. “I was worried when you weren’t answering your phone.”
“Sorry, I had my hands full.”
“What is all this?”
You looked at your feet as you shrugged. “This is my ‘I’m sorry for what I said when I was hungry’ apology. I was a bitch and if you want you can totally pie my face.”
“It’s been a long few weeks, you can be forgiven for snapping,” he said softly as he pulled you into his arms, and wiped a dollop of meringue across your cheek. You gasped at the sticky smear running down your cheek and Charles smirked before dipping his head down and licking the sweet topping off. “Now go wake up Lando before there’s no pie left.”
Monaco Grand Prix The cancellation of Imola’s race made for a nice, albeit unexpected, break and you had made the most of it after helping with the clean up. Yuki started it and convinced Pierre to help, who convinced Charles, who convinced Lando. You would have rather slept the rainy week away but it had been quite a heartwarming event in the end - until the silt and mud mess began to reek and you were happy it was time to leave.
“On a scale of one to ten, how much did you stick to your training schedule over the break?” Kristian asked as he keyed data into his iPad.
“Negative three, if I had to guess,” you said with a laugh. “I mean, you shovel dirt for 12 hours a day and survive on a salad. I had carbs, dude, but I would have burned it off too, so relax.”
“But you haven’t and that was two weeks ago,” he frowned, turning the iPad around to show the graph slowly climbing. “What have you been doing since?”
“I went skiing with Charles in Austria and cycled the Pyrenees with Lando so lay off my ass. Fucks sake, man.”
It was almost time for qualifying to begin but you weren’t able to focus properly as you stormed your way down the line of motorhomes to McLaren. You could hear his music playing before you reached his room and it spilled out into the hall when you opened the door.
“Hey baby,” he greeted with a smile that dimmed as he saw your mood and he turned the music down, “what’s wrong?”
“Kristian, with a K, pissed me off.” You dropped onto his couch and stretched out before lifting your feet up so Lando could sit down too. He slipped your racing boots off before laying your feet across his lap and pushed the legs of your race suit up your calves so he could give you a little massage. “He practically called me a lazy bitch.”
“I doubt that,” Lando said with a roll of his eyes. “If he actually did, we wouldn't be here talking about it, we’d be getting ice for Charles fist.”
“Okay, wise guy, I might have been paraphrasing…”
He chuckled at the admission and you yawned as the massage began to relax you enough to doze off.
“Sorry, love, it’s time to go,” Lando woke you with a kiss to your cheek and you found you had curled up into a ball while you slept. “We can have a proper nap after quali.”
You ignored Kristian’s presence as you entered the garage and shrugged your race suit up over your shoulders on the walk over to your race engineer. “How’s everything looking?”
“We are running with the setup from FP3 but we will still monitor the rear braking temperatures,” Chris said as he gathered his notebook to take to the pit wall. “It doesn’t look like there should be an issue again.”
You nodded before pulling on your balaclava then helmet and climbing into the car that had been warming up.
“And that will be P2, that is another front row start for tomorrow. Nicely done.”
You grinned inside your helmet as you waved to some of the fans while you finished your cool down lap and asked, “How did Charles and Lando do?”
“Leclerc is P3 and Norris is P10.”
“10? He was doing faster sectors than I was,” you muttered as you remembered seeing the times on the big screens around the track.
By the time you pulled into the pits you had found out that Charles had impeded Lando on his final flying lap, resulting in the poor time. You knew he wouldn’t have done it on purpose but your stomach sank when you went to Ferrari only to find Charles on his way to the stewards - his forlorn face knowing he was going to get a grid penalty at his home race.
There was hardly any talk around the table that night when you got home. Lando was picking at each single grain of rice with his chopsticks and Charles just stared at his bowl before sighing and pushing it away.
You silently rose from the table and felt their curious eyes follow you as you disappeared into the bedroom and changed into a racy set of lingerie that still had the tags on. You had bought it as a surprise but never had the chance to wear it, so what better time to test it out then when both men were clearly in need of a distraction.
You knelt in the middle of the bed after you sent a message to the group chat and waited patiently. There was a quiet vibration of their phones on the table, the scrape of the chair legs over the tile floor, the padding of bare feet through the apartment, and the soft gasps of air they inhaled at the sight.
“Fuck me,” Lando whispered before he drew his bottom lip between his teeth.
“Moi aussi.”
“That is the plan,” you teased, drawing your fingers over the lace trim on your thighs. “But only if you can play nicely with each other. Hmm? I think you should kiss and make up.”
You held out a hand to each one and gave them a tug onto the bed and into each other's path. Their quick reactions stabilised them before they could crash and they shared a chuckle as they settled face to face.
“I’m sorry, amor,” Charles murmured, reaching for the curl that always flopped over Lando’s forehead. “I didn’t mean to ruin your shot.”
“I know, I’m sorry too,” Lando said, equally as soft before he caught Charles open hand and kissed his palm. With apologies over, their eyes turned to you. “Now, baby, where have you been hiding this?”
You winked as you made yourself comfortable on the pillows at the headboard and parted your legs. Their chests filled with a big breath in and a grin grew on their faces until both their dimples showed. “You like them?”
Lando’s head bobbed with his quick nods and he fell onto his forearms as he settled between your legs, his fingers teasing the line of your slit through the crotchless panties. “I like them a lot.”
You snapped your legs closed as he started to inch forward and he looked up with a pout as you warned him. “I said kiss and make up. A proper kiss.” It hurt to deny him, your body screaming at you for denying you both the pleasure of his touch, but you were quickly rewarded when their hands tangled in each other’s hair and their tongues fought for dominance.
An achy throb grew between your legs as they were pushed open by Lando’s shoulders as he fell back beneath Charles’ body. Lando looked quite pleased with himself as he bared his neck for the sloppy kisses Charles was leaving and his eyes rolled up to watch you enjoying the scene yourself. A pained curse tumbled from his lips when you reached for the thin material covering your breasts and pulled them aside to palm them as your hips rocked beneath Lando’s heavy body.
“Okay, you two are good now,” you breathed as you rolled your nipples between your thumb and forefinger. “I want my kiss.”
Charles peeked up from where he pinned Lando beneath him, the pressure pushing Lando’s nape over your clit and eliciting a moan from you. “I don’t know, ma petite, I kind of like this show you are giving us.”
You teased them further as they shifted to get a better view. Lando turned to watch you too and Charles sat behind him, his hands trailing down Lando’s front as delicately as he played the piano. You waited until his palm rode over the erection tenting his shorts before you grew impatient.
Two pairs of eyes, one blue and one green, followed your hand intently as you raised it to your lips and swirled your tongue around two digits and they moaned, knowing the feel of your tongue doing the same to their cocks. Their eyes fixated on your fingers as you spread your legs and touched yourself for them, the pleasure quickly spreading as you watched Charles stroking Lando’s length in time to your ministrations.
“Look how wet she is for us, mon cher,” Charles purred as he teased a thumb over Lando’s sensitive tip until he shuddered. “Don’t you want a taste?”
Lando’s lips parted to agree but a needy whine escaped and the sound went straight to your core, your back arching in delight.
“Please,” you begged your boyfriends, their eyes almost black with lust. “I need more than my fingers.”
Lando whimpered as Charles fist unfurled from his cock but the loss was only momentary when the Monegasque whispered in his ear. “Go on, give her what she needs.”
“What about y-?” Lando asked over his shoulder after he sent his shorts flying off the bed and pressed his erection to your dripping entrance. The words died as he saw Charles eyes following the curve of his spine before settling on the swell of his ass. “Oh.”
Charles chuckled and sent a wink back. “I’ll get what I need.”

✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧✧
You wandered through the gardens, feeling the warm sunlight soak into your skin. It was a beautiful day – the flowers were in full bloom, their scents filling the spring air, countless colours surrounding you as you made your way down the cobblestone path. The aged moss and lichen draped the marble statues and carvings along the gardens, an ancient beauty contrasted with the new growth. But you could not bring yourself to enjoy the scenery, nor stop to smell the flowers you loved so dearly. For all their vibrance, they seemed dull, muted, despite their bright colours. The glowing sunlight that so many other elves basked in felt too hot, too invasive. The sweet spring scents were choking you, stifling their air in your lungs as you tried to breathe.
You had once loved wandering through the gardens of Imladris. Now you felt nothing but indifference, the guilt of losing such a joyous area of your life gnawing at your gut. You used to spend hours in these gardens, soaking in the scenery and revelling in the nature around you, content to simply sit on one of the benches or lay down in the grass and let the sounds and scents of the environment wash over your mind.
Now, you could barely stand to walk through the familiar path. Still, it was an improvement, considering it had taken all of your strength to get out of bed this morning. The task alone was daunting, yet you felt no sense of accomplishment. Most days had been like this lately – sleepless nights tossing and turning, yet no motivation to get out of bed when the sun rose, no drive to get yourself ready for the day. Instead you would simply lay there, sheltered in the confines of your room, closing off the rest of the world.
You hated every minute of it. You hated the fact that you felt so useless, the weight of simply getting up being too much to bear. You loathed that no matter how hard you tried, you could not bring yourself to join your friends for breakfast or pick up a good book and read. You hated feeling so weak, so empty – your brain screamed at you to stop wasting away, to get up and do something, anything. But you just could not.
Hours of pondering and crying into your pillow was not enough to figure out why you felt this way. Nothing bad had happened, no traumatic event to set off this episode of pain and depression that felt neverending. You were simply an elf from the Woodland Realm, who had been sent to and raised in Rivendell after the darkness began to creep into what was once Greenwood the Great. You worked as a scholar in the libraries of Imladris, safe within the House of Elrond. You had not seen some violent war, as some of your peers had, nor had you known anyone close to you who died or suffered tragically. Your life was pretty much perfect, your days amounting to reading, art, and simply wandering the grounds – none of which warranting the pain which now seemed to have spread through your entire chest, threatening to cave it in and shatter every piece of you.
You brushed my finger against a rose carelessly, letting your hand wander down from the soft petals to the thorny stalk. You felt a sting of pain, a thorn snagging your pointer finger. Instead of wiping away the blood, you just stood there and dragged your finger further down the thorn, creating a longer red line, content to let droplets of blood spill onto the marble pavement, deep red contrasting with the white floors. At least I could still feel something, you thought bitterly, relishing in the pain slightly. At least you had not gone completely numb.
“My Lady?”
You turned at the sound of a familiar voice. Lord Elrond was standing a few feet behind you, clad in his regal silver robes. He wore no crown, yet still possessed that regal authority that he was so renowned for. You felt your gut twist as you saw the concern flood over his face as you turned your body to face him.
You could see in his eyes he knew something was wrong, but your body gave you away entirely. You knew your eyes looked hollow, framed by dark circles that sucked the life out of your face. Your dress was slightly too big, evidence of the weight you had lost in the past few weeks as you isolated yourself in your room. A sick part of you delighted in it, always having been insecure of your size. Your hair which was usually well-kept and styled hung loosely around your face, knotted and frizzy in some parts as it cascaded down your back.
To cover your shame, you bowed your head in formality. “My Lord Elrond.” You managed to say, staring at the pavement as you inclined your head, eager to get away from his piercing gaze.
Elrond sighed, visibly attempting to soften his gaze. “My dear, must I remind you again that you may simply call me Elrond?”
“My apologies, my Lord.” You mumbled, straightening up and finally meeting his gaze. He did not correct you. Instead, his eyes travelled down to your hand and the blood that still dripped from it.
“You are hurt.” Elrond stated, his eyebrows furrowing. He stepped forward, a gentle hand reaching out as if to assess the wound, but you found yourself stepping back.
“I am alright,” you said quickly, moving your hand back to your side. The blood smeared your midnight-blue robes, but you did not care. “I simply snagged my finger on a thorn. A careless mistake, that’s all.”
Elrond’s eyebrow raised, and dread filled your stomach as you knew he didn’t believe a word you said, or at least he did not buy the too-casual excuse you pulled out of your ass. Your relationship with Elrond had always been relatively close – as close as one can have with an elven Lord of Imladris. When you had arrived in Rivendell as a child, Elrond had ensured you were well cared for. He became involved in your life – often bringing you gifts and trinkets, showing you around the place. Reading to you evolved into him teaching you how to read, sitting at the table with you and his children at dinner. Elrond had taken a special interest in you, always finding a way to make sure you had everything you needed beyond what a normal elven lord would do for their people. Sometimes you wondered if this was due to him losing Celebrían right before you arrived, as if his protective instincts had doubled with wife’s departure to the Undying Lands. He could not spare her from torment, but he could do his best to make sure you never met the same fate. Things changed a bit as you grew older – not wanting to impose on the family he already had before you, you found yourself growing a bit distant. You had no desire to be a burden to him, you were not his blood nor did he raise you, but he still played a paternal role in your life. Even as you began to make a life for yourself in Rivendell, that kindness and care Elrond had shown you as a child prevailed. You and him still had walks in the garden, he still ordered books from other kingdoms he thought may interest you. It was complicated, as he was not your father per say, but he was all you had, and he was important to you. But at the same time, he was still the Lord of the town you had the privilege of residing in and living under.
Guilt clawed away at your gut as you realised how even more distant you had become in these past few weeks. You could not recall the last time you had a conversation with Elrond or sat down for dinner with him. Surely, he noticed your absence but did not want to intrude, trusting you to make your own choices and open up if you were ready.
But you were too far gone for that approach, and deep down you knew that he knew it too.
“That is more than a simple thorn prick, little one,” Elrond said, the concern on his face seeping into his voice. “If you will not tell me what happened, at least let me take care of it for you.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but quickly shut up. You knew from the look in his eyes he was not going to let this go. You gulped down your nausea that was produced by your stomach, which churned knowing where this conversation was headed.
Arwen had made attempts to get you out of your room lately, none successfully executed. You cried even harder as she softly knocked at your door, her gentle voice ushering you to come out and join her for breakfast. You knew it broke her heart when you did not answer, unable to even crawl out of bed and unlock the door. She and her father knew something was wrong but had waited for you to come forward to them about it.
You guess they had waited long enough.
With your non-bloody hand, you accepted Elrond’s outstretched arm and began to walk with him towards his quarters. He did not hold you close to him as he usually did, as if he was afraid getting too close would scare you off. Instead, you walked in silence, which you appreciated. Other elves bowed their heads at him as you passed, but you kept your eyes to the ground.
Five minutes later, Elrond shut the door to his room, grabbing some herbs, water, and bandages to tend to your wound. The silence prevailed, and you sat down on the bed and let him take your hand. He began wiping the blood off, waiting a few seconds before saying softly, “I am glad to see you in the gardens again. It has been a few weeks since I last recall you spending time there.”
You sat quietly, torn. Part of you wanted to break down in ugly sobs and explain the struggles of the past few weeks, to open the floodgates and let go of every horrible and depressing thing you had felt and thought you had over the last while. But the other part of you screamed at yourself to suppress it, to make yourself go numb, a practice you now excelled at. Deep down you knew you wouldn’t have to make that choice – Elrond could see right through you. You knew that one look into those kind eyes and you would crumble, so you looked at the floor.
“Arwen has not seen you lately either,” Elrond continued gently, beginning to wrap up your hand in soft bandages. “Neither have I, in fact. Are you sick, my dear?”
“I…” Your throat went dry as you tried to speak. Say something, come on, say anything, you screamed at yourself. But no words came out.
After tying the final knot, Elrond looked up. “I can tell that you are unwell. I understand that you are grown now, but you are still my little one, and I wish you would know that you can always turn to me in time of need.”
At his comforting voice, you involuntarily looked up and met his gaze. Seeing those kind, concerned eyes that had watched over you all of these years opened that gate inside of you that you had tried desperately to keep sealed for so long. Like a dam bursting, tears spilled down your cheeks and your body shook with sobs. The world around you stopped turning, leaving you enveloped in a flood of your own pain. Your chest hurt, feeling as if it was filled with cement. You felt lightheaded, gasping for air between sobs.
You couldn’t take it anymore. You couldn’t keep living like this. You were in so much pain you couldn’t handle it. You weren’t strong enough, it was going to kill you. Everything you felt raging inside of you was all-consuming, your own thoughts so loud and relentless, screaming at you all day and night to the point where you figured only death would release you from them. You were stuck in your own head, and the fight to swim to the surface was too exhausting to bear.
You felt movement, and the space on the bed beside you shifted as Elrond sat down. He wrapped one arm around you, cradling your head with the other and bringing you close to him. “It’s ok,” He murmured, stroking your hair and holding you as you sobbed uncontrollably. “It’s ok, little one. Let it all out.”
And so you did. You let yourself feel everything – the guilt of neglecting your job, the pain in seeing your friends give up their attempts to see you, the hateful thoughts about yourself that clouded your mind telling you that you were deserving of nothing good, all of it. You clung onto Elrond as you cried, feeling so overwhelmed that you may implode. “I can’t… I can’t, I can’t,” You managed to choke out between sobs. “It hurts so much, please make it stop, please make it stop, Ada.”
Ada.
You had never called Elrond ‘father’ before, always using his name or title. You did not want those around you to think you were getting special treatment, or to seem like you were expecting it. Before you could gather your wits and apologise, you felt him hold you tighter.
“It’s ok,” He repeated. “You are safe. You are strong. You can overcome this, but not if it is burning up inside of you. Let it all out, my dear.”
You nodded into his chest, your relentless chants of I can’t fading out as you slowly regained control over your breathing. The raging sea that was storming inside of you calmed down to a simple rocky surface, the weight of everything lifting off of your chest slightly. You stayed there for a few minutes, letting Elrond hold you close as you calmed down.
He had done so much for you, more than you could ever hope to repay him for. Yet here you were, crying like a child despite the perfect, safe life he had worked so hard to provide you with. What a fucking ungrateful brat, you thought to yourself bitterly, allowing yourself a cruel sob.
You managed to peel yourself away from Elrond, sitting upright. You put your head in your hands, wiping away your tears as you took a shaky breath. His hand remained over your shoulder, rubbing in comforting circles. “I am sorry.” He murmured.
You laughed half-heartedly. “What are you sorry for? I’m the one who should be sorry, not you.”
“You have nothing to apologise for,” Elrond said softly, but firmly. “I am sorry because I should have noticed this sooner. I should have noticed that you were hurting and found a way to help before you suffered this much. I failed you.”
You pried your head from your hands and turned to face him, and your heart nearly broke. The noble elven lord looked so sad, so guilt-ridden at the sight before him. An elf who had seen thousands of years of suffering, who had lived through the most brutal wars in Arda’s history, looked more defeated than ever as he looked at you. That guilt churned inside you again as you realised you had caused this. “You have far from failed me, Elrond.” You said quietly. “You have given me everything, more than I could ever ask for. I have no reason to be this sad or act this way.”
Elrond cocked his head, brushing the hair out of your face. “Is that what you truly think?” He asked gently. “That you need a reason to be sad?”
“Uh…yes?” You said, puzzled. “There is nothing in my life that is going wrong, or even remotely horrible. I have not been traumatised by battle or had to run from a sword. My village was never raided by orcs, I have never known hunger nor harsh winters. I truly have nothing to be sad about.”
Elrond paused for a minute, contemplating your words. “Just because you have not fought in war does not mean you have not suffered,” He said. “You are a young elf; you are allowed to feel whatever your heart feels. Circumstance does not spare you from pain or suffering. Things like this are not always the result of war or hardship. Sometimes we hurt for no reason, and no amount of explanation will reassure us nor will it change what we feel in our hearts.”
You sighed, cheeks damp. “It doesn’t make me feel any less ungrateful. I’ve never even been courted. Nobody has ever looked at me like that. All of my friends have been shown that type of affection, except me. I don’t understand what makes them worthy of it and not me.”
“You are young, little one. You have centuries ahead of you to find whatever love you may wish. You’ve only met a fraction of the people who will come to love you. Give yourself time, allow yourself to be comfortable in your own skin. I know it is easier said than done. If you cannot be at peace with yourself, no soul in this world can fill that void for you.”
You swallowed thickly. He was right – you felt like a stranger in your own body. Like the bones and flesh beneath your skin belonged to another. But sitting here with the elf who had been a pillar in your life for as long as you remembered, you began to feel more at ease within yourself. You sniffled, wiping your tears from your face with the back of your hand. Elrond reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief, dabbing at your cheeks gently.
“Someday,” he said softly. “Someone will love you exactly how you deserve to be loved. I did not meet my wife until I was 1759, and even then, I loved her in secret for many a century.”
Arwen had told you stories of her mother. It always brought a deep sadness to her eyes as she remembered her mother’s grim departure to the Undying Lands. You knew the tale all too well, for talk of the tragedy Elrond had been faced with travelled all the way to the Woodland realm. When you had first arrived in Rivendell, the wound Celebrían’s departure had cut him deep. It took years of you getting to know him before his eyes went from hollow to bright. One day, you had snuck a book from the library on the elves of the First Age. It was then when you stumbled across Elrond’s story, a sad pain in your heart as you read about him and his brother’s early years during the wars and the period that followed.
“I’m sorry,” you said after a few moments. “About your wife. And everything that has happened to you.” You weren’t sure what had prompted you to say that, for you blurted out the words before you could stop and think. Elrond had never discussed his past with you besides the occasional story told in the grand scheme of sharing wisdom and life lessons.
But there was no defensiveness, for Elrond simply put a hand on your shoulder. “Thank you,” was all he said.
The two of you sat in silence for a few minutes, the only sound being your hitched breath as you calmed your breathing down. A slight weight had been lifted off your shoulders, lessening the crushing feeling in your chest. For weeks, you had feared Elrond finding out about your depressive episode and thinking less of you for it. Deep down, you knew that was illogical, but the thought had haunted you nonetheless.
“I want to help you, my dear,” Elrond said, grabbing your hands and looking at you with all the love and care a father would. “But only if you will have it. If you do not wish for my interference, I understand and will be there if you need me. But I urge you not to walk this path alone.”
“I don’t know if there’s anything you can do,” you said quietly.
“I cannot change what you feel in your heart and soul. But there are little changes, perhaps, we can make to get you on the right path. If you would like, I shall have our breakfasts delivered to your room, and I may join you for breakfast and then we can go on a walk. It does not have to be long, nor strenuous. Simply something to get you up and moving at the beginning of the day. Once you climb that step, you may find things become much easier.”
Emotion clogged your throat. “You would do that for me?”
Elrond gave you a gentle smile. “For you, anything. I may not have fathered you, but you are my family. And I will move heaven and earth just to make you closer to the stars if that’s what would make you happy.”

Advice from passed on loved ones and ancestors
I saw a post lately about how the tarot community is mainly about FS and love related content and it really made me think about my own practice and consumption. I think tarot is first and foremost a tool for spiritual growth and so I want to do more readings on those themes. Today, we are asking your spiritual support team to share with us advice meant to help you grow and thrive. You get to pick your group by choosing between the following emojis : 1🦄 2🍊 3🏊🏼♂️
Group 1 🦄
I will start this reading by interpreting the emoji you picked. To me, the Unicorn represents magic, lightheartedness and trust in the Universe. It represents purity and open mindedness. So I guess the first piece of advice that your team is giving you is to embrace whatever is coming your way. Instead of having a combative appproach, fighting people and things happening in your life, resisting change or wanting to control the outcome of things, try a more passive approach. Being passive doesn’t mean doing nothing. Being passive means that you allow things to come to you as they are and you learn how to work with them instead of working against them. For instance, let’s say you are given the opportunity to work on a project. Your first instinct may be to want to take the lead and create everything from scratch. But maybe instead of doing that, you could work on this project basing yourself off of the work your teammates have suggested or what your mentors have done before.
Now, moving onto your cards, you got the following : 4 of wands, knight of swords, the Emperor.
You are advised to count on your family and closest friends on your journey. At the moment, this course of action is the best thing for you to do. I’m hearing don’t underestimate the knowledge and power of others. Some of you may feel like your loved ones wouldn’t be able to understand what you are going through or provide meaningful help. Spirit is telling you that you are wrong thinking so. You would be surprised with what your people can do. Especially if we’re talking about an important father figure around you. The second piece of advice is to communicate clearly with people around you in a way that asserts your power and authority. That doesn’t mean that you should be agressive but definitely don’t be afraid to speak up your mind. Your ideas are valuable and you matter. No one should be able to walk over you as they please. Let people know that you are mature enough to make your own decisions after weighing the pros and cons. By doing so, you will prove people in your community that you are driven and reliable. The third piece of advice is to not be afraid to be more masculine, more dominant and communicative, more demonstrative in your relationships. If you were afraid of coming off too strong to a certain person you love, spirit is saying "we’ll be having none of that BS". On the contrary, you have to show this person all of you. Including the bossy side. Don’t dim your light for anyone. No matter how much you love them. Your spiritual team is telling you that embracing your power and your masculine will strengthen your bonds with this person. Because they like to know that their partner can handle things on their own and doesn’t need them to thrive. They like to see a strong, independent and confident partner. The brighter you shine, the more they’ll be drawn to you. That is also true for any person that’s a part of your tribe. How can you expect people to find you if you don’t let yourself be seen? Send the signal. Burn oh so bright, beautiful spark 🔥
Group 2 🍊
Sweet group 2 you picked the lovely orange as your emoji. To me, oranges represent joy, fun, warmth, gentleness, Summer. You are encouraged to have fun and do things that make you happy. Self care is a major theme for your reading I feel. I’m told that you tend to overwork yourself and be very harsh on yourself, especially when you feel like you’re not being as successful as you should. I’m also picking up on people not being happy about their body image. You could feel guilty about eating food and spirit is saying just do you. No stress. You’ll be okay. Go at your own pace and do your best. You are enough ❤️
Now moving on to your cards you have the following : king of cups, 9 of wands, queen of cups. I’m getting several interpretations for this combination of cards. So I’m going to do my best explaining them. First of all, there’s a message for people who are in a connection with someone that is a bit difficult at the moment. You may feel like you are constantly the one making the effort to make this work. Your team is advising you to pour in your own cup instead. A relationship takes two to tango. If that person is not willing to express their own feelings and show you that they care about this connection, it is not your job to do it in their stead. Maybe they just are not mature enough to be in your league and that is not your fault. Your job is not to save this person. Your job is to uplift yourself and hopefully this person will feel inspired to do the same if that is their cup of tea. But you shouldn’t focus on you just for the sake of their well being. You should do it for your own. The second scenario that I am picking up on is for people that are single. Your team encourages you to keep moving forward and hold on. You have been working very hard lately and they want to reassure you on the fact that you are close to victory. Very soon your hurdles will be over. You are asked to be gentle with yourself and pat yourself on the back because not only do you deserve it but your achievements are going to be spectacular. You may be on the verge of manifesting a precious connection without realizing it. As I was typing that the autocorrect function changed precious into previous. So maybe this person is someone from your past coming back under your radar. This may be someone you deeply wished to be with in the past but never got the chance to be with them or someone you where with but went their separate way for some reason or another. No matter your situation, the major keywords are : self love, self care and gentleness. Don’t repress your emotions. Feel free to express them in creative ways. Don’t give up on your dreams. A peaceful time is coming your way so do not despair ✨
Group 3 🏊🏼♂️
Hello dear group 3. I will start your reading by interpreting the emoji you picked. You are advised to either practice a physical activity or to dive into your emotions. You can also work with water energies to enhance healing and inner peace. You may be the type to enjoy going to the swimming pool or the beach. If that is your case then this is your confirmation sign.
Moving on to your cards you got the following : 5 of wands clarified by the king of cups, 6 of cups, knight of pentacles.
If there is currently conflicts in your relationships in general, you are encouraged to soothe your interactions with them. Try to reconnect with your partner, your family, your friends. Extend that olive branch. Invite them to dinner or to hang out in nature. It is important to rekindle connections at this time of your life. Do so at your own pace, slowly but surely. Take the time to get to know people or rediscover the people you know. Reconnect over past memories, activities you used to do at the beginning of your relationship. Try to put water in your wine. Meaning, you have to temper yourself and try to find a common ground with the people around you. If a friendly offer is made to you, don’t reject them because of past experiences and struggles. Don’t be petty. If help is being offered to you, see past your grudges and reluctances, give yourself and this person the opportunity to learn from each other and start anew. You are encouraged to clean the slate and start on healthier bases. Even if people are being a bit tense around you, adopt a peaceful approach. Soothe people’s worries and show them they have nothing to fear. Try to mediate if you can. Instead of working on your own look out for people that share similar interests, similar responsibilities or experience. Get out of your shell and out of your comfort zone. Get out of your way and try to understand others. Give others the chance to understand you. You are encouraged to work on your empathetic skills. 🕊️

" Farewell, Frank "
Corpse Puppet AU by @sketchquill
Idea: Frank and Eddie have been happily married for years with nothing separating them. That was, until Frank suddenly became very ill. Doctors all over town have tried everything from different medicines to different treatments, but alas, nothing has worked. So little time is left for Frank, but Eddie isn't ready to say goodbye. Unfortunately, there's no choice.
Reminders: I will warn you now, this fic will have heavy topics such as death and illness. There is very little comfort. While canon to the Corpse Puppet AU, I am still warning you as this can be triggering to some people. Read with caution!!
I am still not associated with Clown or any of his friends, nor their work. This is purely for fun and entertainment purposes. Nothing in here belongs to me except the writing itself.
Now suffer >:))
♡--------------♡
This. Can not be happening.
Everything was going so well.
Why did it have to fall apart so soon?
Eddie stood outside of Frank's room, pacing around in circles as the poor man was overthinking. He couldn't help it. His husband was so sick, they could barely walk. It killed Eddie inside, knowing that there was nothing he could do for them. That's what hurt the most. He couldn't do anything.
A doctor steps out of the room with a saddened look. Upon entering, Eddie perked up, but quickly frowned upon seeing the doctor's expression.
"So, how is he?"
They stood silent.
"..Doc, how's my Frank?"
It looked as if they were trying to find the right words to break the unbearable news. Eddie couldn't stand it. He opened his mouth to speak, but the doc finally spoke up with sadness in their voice. This wasn't good.
"Mr. Dear, your husband hasn't been responding to the treatment."
"What..?"
No. No.. no no no. This can't be happening. Please tell him that this was not real.
The doctor sighed. They glanced over at the clipboard in their left arm.
"We've tried everything we know. Various medicines and treatments, but there's no significant improvement. Frank has only gotten worse."
...
Eddie's eyes began to flood with tears. He was on the verge of crying. The answer was obvious, but he couldn't help but ask.
"Is my Frank going to be okay..?"
...
Eddie's heart shattered in a million pieces when the doctor slowly shook their head.
"..I'm sorry, Mr. Dear, but they won't be making it."
Not a moment later, a quiet sob was heard from Eddie. He covered his face and broke down. He was losing his Frank, his husband. It didn't feel real, yet the pain was there. It was unbearable. How could anyone bear this much pain?
"Please, let me see them. Please.."
Eddie barely managed to get the words out in-between his sobs.
It would be cruel to deny someone to see their loved one.
The doc knew Frank's condition, but couldn't say no to Eddie. They allowed him in.
Eddie quietly walked in the room. He tried so hard to control his crying. He wiped away his tears as he strolled by Frank's bedside. He took a seat that was near the bed.
Being so close to a dying loved one felt like a blessing and a curse. To see them in their last moments, to later see them get buried. Eddie was not looking forward to.. burying his husband.
Just the thought of it brought him back to tears.
Frank slowly turned their gaze to Eddie. They were barely able to keep their eyes open. But they smiled. They smiled at Eddie. Frank was usually grumpy, but they smiled for him.
"Hey, Eddie.." They spoke in a hushed whisper. Eddie could tell that they were exhausted. Exhausted from death itself, exhausted from trying so many medicines and treatments.
"Hey, pumpkin.."
Frank quietly chuckled, a soft pink coloring their face. Their smile only grew.
"Heh, I told you to not call me that."
Eddie chuckled.
"But why? It's cute, just like you."
"Alright, Alright."
Frank playfully rolled their eyes, Eddie couldn't help but snicker.
Eddie glanced further at Eddie. His smile was short lived, as he slowly frowned in sadness. Was this really it? For them?
As if Frank was going to allow him to be sad, not in front of them.
They were so tired, but they mustered up the energy to raise their arm and gently place their hand on Eddie's cheek. Eddie's face turned a soft pink at the contact, but smiled.
He smiled. He placed his hand over on Frank's.
"Turn that frown upside down, dear. I'll be fine."
"But you're not."
Eddie's tears ran down his face like a waterfall. He couldn't help it. He didn't want to say goodbye.
"..Frank, sweetheart, you're-"
"I know."
Frank frowned a bit. For the first time, Eddie saw Frank tear up. A few tears rolled down their cheeks.
"I'm heartbroken, too. I don't want to leave you, either."
They stood silent for a moment.
"..As much as it sucks, at least I get to see your handsome face."
Eddie smiled slightly at the compliment. It made him happy, at least for that small bit.
"I love you, Frank."
"I love you too, Eddie."
...
They stood quiet for a little bit, just enjoying each other's company. It was nice.
It got harder for Frank to stay awake. As much as they didn't want to let go, Eddie knew they were tired. He allowed them to take their arm back. Frank let out a shaky sigh, closing their eyes for a moment.
"God, I'm so tired.." They mumbled. They felt breathless.
Eddie felt bad. As much as he wanted to spend more time with Frank, he didn't want to force them to stay awake. He stood up from the chair and knelt down next to the bedside. Eddie carefully brushed his fingers through Frank's dark hair. They quietly hummed with a small smile.
"Please, sweetheart. Get some rest. You deserve it."
Frank looked over at Eddie. They couldn't help but tear up.
"Will you.. be okay with me resting?"
Eddie slowly nodded.
"Of course.. you look so tired, it's worrying me."
Frank opened their mouth to speak, but Eddie continued to speak.
"Don't worry about me, I'll be okay. I just want you to get your much deserved rest."
...
"..Thank you, dear.."
Frank's voice became quiet.
They reached over and took Eddie's hand, gently squeezing it. Eddie reciprocated the action.
"I love you.. Eddie.."
"I love you too, Frank."
Eddie leaned in and gave a soft kiss on Frank's forehead. They smiled.
They slowly closed their eyes, letting out another shaky sigh.
Within a moment, Frank was out. They immediately fell asleep. The gentle grip they had on Eddie's hand went away, but he stood there. He kept their hand held, not wanting to let go. He never wanted to let go.
So, Eddie stayed by Frank's side. He made sure to never leave them.
He loved them.
Perhaps when Frank wakes up, they'll feel a little bit refreshed.
Eddie and Frank can see each other a little longer.
Maybe when Frank wakes up, they'll be all better, as if the sickness never happened. Eddie will be relieved and they'll live happily ever after.
If Frank wakes up, they'll maybe start accepting 'pumpkin' as their nickname.
...
. . .
But Frank never woke up.
They tried.
They tried so hard to fight the sickness.
But eventually, their body just couldn't do it.
...
"Hey, Frank.."
Eddie stood by near Frank's grave. Flowers surrounding it with cards and teddy bears. Eddie held a bouquet of flowers, purple and blue.
He knelt down, placing the bouquet of flowers upright on the grave. Tears flooded his eyes, but he held a smile.
"It's been a while since I've seen your face. I wish I could hold you, right now."
He stood quiet for a bit.
"..It's been hard without you, you know that? Wherever you are, I just hope you're resting in peace."
Eddie broke into a sob. He felt so lonely without his husband.
"I miss you so much, sweetheart.. Why'd you have to go?"
There was no one around to comfort him. Eddie was left alone with his own puddle of tears.
If Frank was there, they'd be comforting him.
..But that's the thing.
They weren't there, anymore.

Blood Runs Cold
Injured Trilogy- part one | part two | part three
pairing: Joel Miller x fem!reader
summary: you save Ellie, but not yourself.
tags/warnings: hurt/comfort, this one is angsty, blood and descriptions of injury, I'm not a doctor, also don't know a thing about nature apparently, established relationship, happy family, drowning, fear of water, way more spice than intended it just happened- though nowhere near explicit.
word count: 10k | ao3
a/n: had to edit this twice and tbh I just need it finished, so please forgive the mistakes. part three might take a little longer...I’m having quite the anxious episode but enough of that, hope you enjoy!
masterlist
It took a while for you to recover, but you had. Well for the most part. Your hand was the only lingering problem.
The doctor had done what she could for it but without the proper technology and equipment–even after the mostly successful surgery, it would never be the same again.
You had diligently followed the physical therapy exercises she gave you and weeks later, you could now make a fist and your grip strength was improving. The process was long and if you were being honest you were getting impatient. You were just thankful that it was your non-dominant hand because it was still frustratingly weak and uncoordinated in comparison. The doctor had confirmed that it would probably always feel that way. You'd be lying if you said that that didn't upset you, not that you weren't grateful to be alive–it just really sucked.
Joel was different though. While you were a little depressed and frustrated, Joel seemed to be almost obsessing over it. He would inspect it every morning, seeing how the two deep scars from the surgery were healing. Then he would ask a couple times a day if you had completed your exercises. And he was also overly protective of it. He'd fuss anytime you picked up anything or when you'd tell him that you were ready to go back to work. The two of you argued over it quite heatedly more than once.
One day, a couple weeks ago now, after he finished his patrol he returned his gun and gear, and checked in with Tommy for the next day's schedule.
Tommy and Maria were in a deep discussion and when they saw Joel, Tommy bowed his head and Maria straightened, both looking extremely suspicious.
“What happened?” Joel asked concerned. He somehow knew it was about you.
Maria admitted that due to your tenacity, she had put you on light cleaning duties. That you had begged to have something to do, and that after a couple of hours you had grown frustrated from the weakness in your hand, which had cramped causing you to drop a plate. It shattered all over the ground and when you could only use your good hand to pick up the small pieces, it had sent you over the edge.
You didn't listen to anyone and you'd picked up the sharp pieces using only one hand and it had cut you up. You did so with tears in your eyes and then you left without saying a word, hand covered in blood.
He quickly left, hurrying to you as fast as his feet would carry him.
When he came home he found you in your shared bathroom. You didn't hear him enter and were focused trying to pick out the small ceramic pieces that were lodged beneath your fingertips.
You had been attempting to fish out the pieces for just under an hour now and your hands were shaking. You could barely work the tweezers due to the slick blood and your hand was cramping. Speaking of, it was properly hurting now–which it hadn't been for weeks now.
“Baby?”
You jumped, dropping the tweezers and cursing. You grabbed the hand towel and tried to cover your hand but he was quicker. His body came up behind yours and he placed both arms on the sink, trapping you in place, eyes making contact in the mirror.
“Let me see,” he said, leaning down, breath hitting your neck.
“It’s nothing, just cut myself cleaning.”
“Let–me see.”
You almost gave in but just as you about relented, you thought of a different distraction and leaned back and pressed your backside into him, moving your hips gently from side to side.
His nostrils flared, eyes narrowed as he hissed at the contact. It took him a second to come to his senses because his body would alway betray him when it came to you, but then quickly snapped out of it and scooted back and put his hands on your hips preventing you from following.
“Jesus–just let me see your damn hand.”
You turned around abruptly, he was still very much in your personal space.
“I just nicked it. I don't know why you're acting like this over this,” you suddenly felt small like a helpless child. Despite your confident voice, you could no longer look at him as tears welled in your eyes. You hated feeling helpless but you also hated needing help. And what didn't even make sense was all he wanted to do was to help you. Why you rejected it you weren't entirely sure. Maybe you were just tired of seeing the worried look on his face–the one that you continued to put there.
Though, as much as you loved him, you hated the way you always just gave into him. You blamed his eyes, his voice, his… you know what, it was just him–he was your kryptonite.
“It was just a little cleaning,” you said, unwrapping your hand and held it up to him so that he could see. “I- I uh–broke a glass and tried to…”
“Maria told me.”
“Damn.”
He chuckled softly at your frustration and then frowned suddenly, “You're still lying to me. I thought we went over this.”
“This doesn't count though. It's not life or death. It's just a few stupid cuts.”
He reached out and took your lightly bleeding hand. “I’m not too worried about this,” he said after inspecting it thoroughly, noting that you still had some small pieces still stuck. “But this…” he gently let go of your hand and picked up the other. It was still locked in a cramp, “This is what I worry about.”
He carefully pressed into the tight muscle and you gasped in discomfort, which was quickly replaced with relief as he kneaded the overused muscle until he successfully worked the cramp out.
“Thank you,” you said, looking up at him almost ashamed
“You're doin’ too much.”
You yanked your hand from his like he had just burned you. He didn't react, just continued to stare at you. He wasn't going to take that back, you were doing too much too soon.
“I literally just swept and washed a few dishes. If–if I can't even do that then…”
“You were hurt,” the frown returned to his face.
“Yeah I was. Past tense Joel.”
“It takes time to heal. You almost…you almost died baby,” he put his hands in his pockets as he blinked a few times trying to rid the images of you doubled over coughing up blood.
He wanted to reach out to you so damn bad, but knew that you needed space right now.
“I know that. But I feel so helpless, all the time. I- I can't do anything. I can't even turn the pages in a book…I can't even sit and fucking read. And you leave and do your shifts–shifts that we are supposed to do together. What if you got hurt because I wasn't there to watch your back?” He looked like he wanted to interrupt you but refrained. “And then Ellie has to come home from school and before she does her homework or hangs out with her friends she helps me cook and clean. I just—I’m just so sick of feeling useless. I’m so sick of feeling like a burden.”
There it was.
He thought of a million things to say. He wanted to berate you for even thinking such a thing, but that never seemed to work on you, so he decided to go a different route.
“I understand.”
“Do you?” You said with more venom than you intended.
“Yeah, yeah I do,” he cleared his throat, “When I was stabbed and you and Ellie had to do everything.”
“You were unconscious Joel. You were dying from infection.”
“That doesn't matter. I–I couldn't protect you two. I could barely understand what you said to me but I could make out enough.” He took his hands out of his pockets and rubbed his face, “I knew that you were going to leave and try to find me medicine. I tried to call out…I tried to stop you, but I couldn't. And then when the men–when the men came looking for you I–damn near lost my mind. But I couldn't move. I, I tried so hard to,” he felt the familiar pressure in his chest, “I…I watched you leave–and I couldn't even beg you to stay.”
You stood still as a statue as a tear rolled down your cheek, all you could do was stare.
“So yeah, I do understand. Feeling helpless is the worst, but you got me and Ellie, and you are getting better everyday. But pushing yourself isn’t gonna help you. So please do me–do us a favor and just let us help you. You’d do the same thing for us in a heartbeat and you are never a burden. Do you hear me?”
Your eyes were wide and mouth was slightly opened, “I’m sorry, I had no idea.”
“It’s ok. Everything turned out fine. We are both here.”
You launched at him, hugging him tightly. You kissed his neck and said, “I wish you would have told me. I know you dream about it…”
“I don't want to talk about that right now, ok? I just want to get that junk out of your hand and take a shower. Does that sound good?”
You agreed.
He took his time and worked efficiently, and in no time he had all of the debris removed and had cleaned your fingertips. Then he helped you undress and led you to the shower, where he worshiped you with as much attention as he gave you wounds, and then finished by cleaning your body as well–something that he's come to enjoy doing. When you got out of the shower he gently bandaged both hands, one for the cuts and the other to relieve the pressure on the healing muscle.
He dried you off and helped you dress into your most comfortable clothes, which were ironically his clothes. Then you sat at the kitchen table and listened while he told you about his day. He heated you a can of your preferred soup and toasted you both some bread to go along with it.
After your shared meal, you moved to the bedroom where he read a couple chapters of your favorite book to you. You fell asleep with your head on his shoulder. And when you woke you were in his arms snuggled closely, your bad hand in his as he lightly massaged it.
You've been back on light duties for a month now–also known as cleaning and restocking the armory. It definitely feels boring and mundane after the action you were used to, but it was much better than doing nothing. Your hand still has the occasional cramp but it's much stronger. You’ve practiced on the shooting range a few times now and you weren't as hindered as you thought you'd be. Slower yes, but still able, with an aim as deadly as it's ever been.
It was the middle of a Wyoming winter and it was cold. Snow fell for four days straight covering the ground in a thick solid layer that probably wouldn't melt until the beginning of spring. Which made today's appearance of the sun that much better. Everyone in Jackson acted like it was a holiday. Two families were actually having parties and had invited you over.
People liked you for a reason you didn't even know. You were nice and you worked hard but you weren't overly friendly, maybe you just appeared that way because you were around Joel and Ellie. Or maybe it was because you were close to Maria and Tommy. Regardless, there would be no partying for you.
A few months ago you had talked Ellie out of going on runs until she was older. She hated it and took quite some convincing but you managed to make a deal with her. She focuses on school and her friends, and honestly just being a semi carefree teenager for once in her life, and a couple times a year the three of you would take vacations.
By vacations, you'd basically just camp and be away from everyone a bit. None of you would admit it but each of you missed the seclusion. Just the three of you, no obligations, nobody telling you what to do. You were grateful for Jackson, you all were and it was much better than being alone but that's how you lived for months together. That's where your strong bonds were made, and sometimes the sleeping bag under the stars felt more like home than your house.
Another part of the agreement was that Ellie got to choose where you'd go. It couldn't be too far, at least not during the winter, and the trip couldn't last more than a week–not until she was finished with school.
On this inaugural trip she wanted to see the rapids. Some friends had talked about how they canoed down them and she hadn't stopped talking about it since. You doubted that that was true, in a canoe? But it didn't matter it was a part of your deal and since the rapids weren't too far away the request seemed reasonable.
And really it was a big deal for Ellie to want to go anywhere near water, let alone potentially dangerous water. She had let it slip once that she couldn't swim and the fact that she hasn't asked to learn yet tells you that she's afraid.
It was early morning, the sun had just begun to light up the sky. It was cold but no snow clouds were on the horizon. You were all packed with more things than you’d need in a week, and the trip probably wouldn’t even last three days. This was your first time leaving since your injury and it was Ellie's first since the agreement, which meant Joel was kind of a nervous wreck. He packed excessive amounts of everything–ammo, food, first aid. His pack weighed double the usual weight, and this time he saddled up his horse.
You found him in the stables. He was loading up the horse slowly and precisely, trying to slow down the inevitable–his family was leaving safety.
“Are you ready?”
He jumped slightly and laughed almost nervously. “You scared me sweetheart.” He sighed and fastened the last strap on the saddle, “Bout there, I wanna double check the…”
“Joel,” you crossed your arms and looked at him sweetly. “Everything is going to be ok. We are going to have a fun quick little trip. Nothing that we aren't used to right?”
He still had his back to you but you could hear him gulp and you could see him trying to shake his head in some sort of agreement.
“Hey.” You walked up to him and held the side of his arms. “Do not put all of this on yourself. The three of us can defend ourselves, in fact I'd say that we are a pretty badass trio.”
You smiled and he couldn't help but smile back. It didn't reach his eyes but he smiled nonetheless.
“I’m afraid.” His voice was low where only you could hear him. He turned from you and focused on the horse. A little shocked that the confession slid out of him so easily. Completely unintentional.
His admission made you break a little. You didn't want this to stress him out like it was. This was supposed to be fun. “If you don't want to go me and Ellie–”
“No,” his voice was firm and commanding. “God- just no. I um–I just…it's safe here.” He was suddenly fixated on petting the horse, unable to look at your eyes that seemed to make him confess things without his permission. “And to leave it, if we don't have to seems…foolish to me.”
You tensed at his words. And boy did they make you angry. You and Ellie have been planning this and looking forward to it for weeks now. And he just waited until the last minute to express his concern? To call something you’d been dreaming about foolish?!
“We can't just stay here. We can't just be yours to play house with.” You paced a little and then continued almost grumbling to yourself, “Be your little housewife and we aren’t even married—go to school–be your picture perfect family. We can't do that. I can’t. I- I won't.”
He turned to face you quickly. He hadn’t meant to upset you, really he hadn't but it did seemed foolish to him, dangerous for no reason. He didn’t like the way you were talking, it made him uncomfortable. Yes he loved coming home to you but it was just because he knew that you were safe. It had nothing to do with you being a ‘housewife’ to him. And he also didn’t like what sounded like an ultimatum, he would never keep you from leaving but it still frightened him.
“I just meant–”
“Oh I know what you meant.” You felt your face getting hot. You didn't know where all of this was coming from and chalked it up to being frustrated at his last minute indecisiveness and your slightly stir-crazed mental state. “And it's such an easy thing for you to think about- building a wall around us caginging us up like animals in a zoo.”
“That's not–”
“Come home to a cooked meal.” You were pacing faster now, needing some kind of physical release. Your body was practically humming with pent up energy from being cooped up for months.
“Baby it’s not–”
“All your laundry folded nice and neat.” You dug your boots into the stable floor with such force that dirt was actually starting to kick up. You could feel your blood pressure rise with each step.
“To be propped up and ready to fuck when you come home–”
That made him snap. “Stop it!” He tightly held your shoulders and jerked you around hard. “I’d think very carefully about what you say next.”
You were still, all except for a wicked gleam of rebellion that flashed in your eyes. “Is that what you want?” You were breathing embarrassingly heavy.
He hated his reaction to all of this but regardless he still felt blood quickly rushing south and his pants tightened rapidly. You are just so damn hot and the image you were painting, well he hated to admit that the last part sounded appealing. Also he not so secretly liked it when you talked dirty.
“For me to be spread out on the bed for you, nothing to do but wait for you to get home. Be nice and ready for your—”
With absolutely no warning he spun you around and pulled you roughly to him. You arched into him instinctively and he placed one hand on your inner thigh and the other over your dirty mouth.
“I know it’s been awhile so I won’t get mad at you. But if you don't shut that pretty mouth of yours right now, we aren't goin’ anywhere.”
You ground your backside into him just as rough, and bit at his hand, in a futile attempt of retaliation.
“Fuck…” He pressed himself harder into you. A sinful moan escaped you that was barely muffled by his large hand. He was certain that his strain was going to break his zipper. “If you needed this from me baby, all you have to do is ask.” He cooed into your ear making chills shoot down your spine and pressure pool into your belly.
He moved his hand that was resting on your thigh and started to unclip your belt buckle.
The metallic clank broke you from your lust filled trance, and you shot out from his embrace. Your pupils were blown wide and you were almost gasping for air. “You aren't gonna- damnit, you aren’t going to distract me over this. We- we are leaving, with or without you.”
You stormed out quickly. Not even bothering to buckle back up.
If he were in the position he would have chased after you. But he couldn’t go running through town in his current state. So instead, to calm himself down, he thought about anything at all other than you.
A couple of minutes later, he led his overly packed horse over to where the two of you were waiting. Ellie was beaming at him and bouncing on the balls of her feet in excitement. He smiled at her but it made him feel like a piece of shit. This meant so much to the two of you. And he might have just ruined your whole trip. He hated when he made you angry but he still believed he had a point.
He looked over at you and you quickly turned your head away to avoid him. He didn’t know how to apologize to you. Or rather he knew how but he couldn’t do that in front of Ellie. So he’d have to find the right time when you were alone. He wasn’t the best with words, in fact most of the time his words only made things worse. So he’d have to be patient and hope you’d be willing to forgive.
He was mid thought when you just started walking. Ellie cut her eyes back at him and raised her eyebrow in question.
He just shrugged but he knew she was clever, sometimes too clever, and he knew that she knew he had done something stupid.
“Come on.” He sighed, urging her to drop it and follow.
Luckily for him, she was more excited for the trip than curious about what had happened. But he still feared that it was only a matter of time before she questioned him to death.
It took about five hours to make it to the river. It was a slow peaceful walk. There was no hurry—the journey and being at peace was the reason for the trip–it was mostly made in silence, the three of you weren’t big on small talk so it wasn’t at all uncomfortable, though he knew that you were only quiet because you were still stewing from earlier.
Ellie grew more talkative towards the end and you tried your best to carry on with her, but you were still infuriated with Joel. It was a buildup of things you supposed. But sometimes he really gets under your skin. The overprotective thing really works for you until it doesn't. And that’s not really fair to him because that’s who he is, and you knew that he hadn’t caged you in, you just felt trapped by your own injury.
It didn’t help that it was after months of being cooped up and babied. Two things you disliked. If he was going to be like this every time you wanted to go for a walk- then flat out, the relationship wouldn’t work. You needed some semblance of freedom or you’d go insane. That scared you because you also needed him. And maybe you were being a little dramatic. He was currently beside you and you were outside of the gates. So maybe you were being a little hasty. Hopefully this outing will give you the reboot your mind needed.
Joel picked a place to set up camp while you and Ellie walked over to the edge of the cliff to see the now infamous rapids. They were more intense than you imagined, no way could a canoe make it down them.
Ellie was being uncharacteristically timid. You looked back at her and decided to give her some alone time. “I’m going to help him, don't get too close to the edge, it's slick.”
She playfully rolled her eyes at you.
When you made it back to Joel he already had half of the stuff thrown on the ground, but when he looked at you he gave a look.
“What?” You placed your hands on your hips defensively.
“Nothin’...” he exhaled deeply, “Look- I’m sorry about earlier. I don’t wanna ruin your trip.”
“Our trip, it's our trip Joel. Look at where we are. Look how beautiful it is.” you gestured around you at the beautiful mountains, “Don’t you just feel…free?”
He looked at you with a sudden understanding, it was freedom that you needed. You’d told him as much, but seeing the stress visibly leave your face is what finally got it through his thick skull, “Yeah, I guess I do.”
You beamed at him, “See!”
“You look awfully beautiful out here like this,” his eyes sparkled at you. There was no other way to describe it.
“So do you.”
“Yeah?”
“Big time.”
He laughed, “See that big tree?”
It was the biggest tree in the area, impossible to miss, “Yeah?”
“If we were alone I’d apologize like you like me to, right up against–”
“Stop…that's–that’s cruel,” you blushed.
He laughed almost wickedly.
“Let's unpack before you find a way to get yourself back into trouble.”
Ellie was looking out, biting her lip apprehensively. Now that she was here she was fucking scared. Why did she even pick this stupid place, she couldn't swim, it was cold, and it was fucking stupid.
She walked closer to the edge and tried to peek over but she was too far away. She got frustrated with herself. Come on, don't be a pussy. She moved closer and closer still. Her chest felt tight and her legs were beginning to quake. She fought the urge to lay down and crawl to the edge, she didn't think that that would be a good look for her. So she continued to move forward very slowly, inch by inch, silently disregarding all sounds of internal alarms until finally, she could see all the way down into the raging water.
Her toes kissed the edge and as she leaned forward, just as she felt that she had confidently conquered a fear, her boot slipped. “FU–” she was cut short as she twisted and tried to grab onto the edge, but in doing so she landed on her chest which then sent her flying backwards towards the water. Thankfully she landed on a ledge less than halfway down the steep drop.
The ledge was small and narrow, she was very lucky to land on it at all. If she wouldn't have tried to hug the side of the cliff she would have fallen straight into the water. What she didn’t notice though was as she landed, the ledge moved slightly- small rocks broke off and fell into the freezing water below.
Ellie laid there for a few seconds and stared up at the blue sky. She took deep breaths trying to get it through her head that she was in fact alive–she wasn't entirely convinced. Until she heard you calling out her name.
You were fortunate enough to look over just as she fell. You ran to her as fast as you could desperately calling out her name.
Joel was left alone and confused for merely a second before he noticed Ellie's missing form. His heart dropped as he sprinted past you and looked over where she used to be standing.
“Ellie?” you caught up and stood beside him.
You looked over the ledge as she carefully stood and brushed off some snow and dirt.
“Holy shit.” she said looking up at the two of you.
She didn't speak loud enough to hear because of the thunderous sound of the rapids, but you could read her lips. You exhaled in relief.
Joel was also very relieved. If she had fallen she would have hit the rocks, and if by some miracle she missed the rocks the currents were strong. Even an amazing swimmer wouldn’t be able to stay above the water, he didn't care to think about what would happen to someone who couldn't swim.
“Ellie,” he yelled down to her.
She looked up, and moved to hug the side of the cliff, “Yea?”
He laid on his stomach and reached down his arm as far as he could stretch, “Can you climb to reach my hand?”
She stretched her body as tall as she could, standing on her toes, her feet almost completely parallel to the cliff. She was still short, not by much, so she jumped as high as she could, still missing his hand. When she landed, the shifting of the ledge was still unnoticed. There was nothing to grab onto, there was nothing to grip to climb.
She jumped again but this time landing with more force. The ledge visibly shifted and larger rocks plunked into the water.
“Stop!” you screamed out. “Ellie, stay still!”
She gave a thumbs up, “No problem.”
You laid down next to Joel, “I’m going down there.”
“Like hell–”
“Hey, listen to me. I’m taller than her. I could probably jump and reach your hand, she just needs a boost. She could probably stand on my back and reach you.”
“Let me, I’ll…”
“You’ll what?” you sighed and did your best to calm down. “I don't think the ledge is strong enough to hold you both.”
He opened his mouth but you continued, “And you know I couldn't pull your ass up.” you grinned, but he wasn't having it.
“Just wait a second. Let me figure something out.” He looked back towards camp, “We could tie some–”
“You saw the way those rocks fell. We might not have the time for that Joel.” You grabbed his forearm and looked deeply into his eyes, you weren't playing around, you were going to do this, “Please, let me save her.”
His brows furrowed and he looked at you with as much seriousness as you've ever seen from him, and that was saying something. He brought his forehead to yours, “Be careful,” he whispered onto your skin.
You nodded, noses bumbing against each other and then reluctantly moved from him and looked down, “Ellie? I’m going to come down there and help you, ok?”
She looked up at you in pure panic, “No don't! This fucking piece of shit rock is barely holding me up.”
“It’ll be fine.”
She practically cried out your name, “Please don't,” her voice cracked in her loud plea.
You looked at Joel and he was looking at you in premature anguish, “It’s going to be alright,” you said to who, you weren’t sure–probably everyone, including yourself.
You removed your gloves in case you needed a better grip and slowly climbed over the edge, Joel held on tightly, and when he looked at the two deep scars on your hand he froze, “God damnit!”
“What?” you looked up worried that something had happened, and saw him focused on your hand.
“Crazy woman, what are you fuckin’ insane?”
Your hand had crossed your mind, but getting Ellie to safety was the only thing that mattered. You smiled sadly- knowingly at him, and he all of the sudden realized what he was doing–he was slowly dropping you to your death. This wasn’t just a rescue mission, this was a suicide mission. The anger from his eyes was replaced with bone chilling fear. He desperately yanked you back up a little, pulling your arm too tight and causing your bicep to strain.
“Wha–?” you saw the raw panic in his eyes as he tried to haul you back up, “Stop, Joel Stop!” you looked down at Ellie and then back up to him with tears in your eyes, “I’ll break my arm off if I have to.”
He knew you would. Selfless woman.
He looked back at you holding on to his hand, gripping the side of the rock face, eyes full of tears and determination–he loved you so. “You better come back to me.”
“I always will.”
His grip tightened and he lowered you as far as he could, “Land softly.”
No shit you thought as you landed on the ledge. It dropped even further this time making a horrible crumbling noise.
You grabbed Ellie and hugged her tightly afraid that this was it. When nothing else happened you sighed in relief and quickly backed up. She looked scared, like she wanted to stay in your arms and hide.
“Come on, we have to hurry.”
You quickly got on your hands and knees and she stood on top of you. She reached tall but was scared to dig her toes into you–she didn't want to hurt you, and she thought of how long it took for your ribs to heal, how much pain you were in.
“Use your toes Ellie!” you demanded.
“I don't want to hurt you,” she practically sobbed out.
“You won’t, I can hardly feel you.”
She knew you were lying but she complied and stood on the tips of her toes. She brushed his fingertips and tried to reach further.
“Are you close?” you asked, feeling the ground beneath you sway knowing time wasn't on your side.
“I can touch him but I can’t–”
“Jump,” you interrupted her.
“Wha….NO I won't do that.”
“Ellie, baby- you have to.”
“I don't want to.”
“I love you very much…everything is going to be ok.”
More rocks crumbled and Joel called out your name in warning.
“Jump Ellie!”
Without a moment's more hesitation she did and Joel gripped her wrist tightly. They worked together and quickly got her to safety.
The pathetic excuse for a ledge was giving out. Your world was rocking back and forth like a buoy on the ocean. You stood slowly, doing your best to not make any sudden movements. You could hear both of them desperately calling out to you but you were focused. They didn’t know how precarious your situation had become.
You stood slowly and reached for Joel’s hand. You had known going into this that it was going to be much harder for you to get up. Sure you were taller than Ellie but not by much. You were going to have to jump or climb. To jump meant if you missed- you had to land, and you weren’t sure it could take that force.
You dug your fingers into any crack you could find, there weren’t many but you made your way maybe a foot off of the ledge when two things happened—first your hand locked up in a cramp that rendered it useless. You dropped it to your side, trying your best to hide it from those above. And second, the ledge broke away and fell into the water.
They cried out to you but you didn’t know what to do. You truly couldn’t do a thing with your hand, you couldn’t even use it as a stabilizer. You found a perch for one toe of your boot, but it wasn’t going to hold long.
It was like the universe knew that this was how you’d die. It was shitty, but it was giving you a chance to say goodbye to the two people you loved most in the world, and that’s more than a lot of people got.
You looked up. Joel’s face was red from straining to make himself longer. Spit was flying from his mouth with every pleading yell. Ellie was screaming for you to hurry. Time seemed to slow down as you watched them. They were going to be ok, they had each other, and despite what Joel would argue that would be enough.
So you had one attempt. It was all or nothing. One small lurch forward and you’d either make it to Joel’s hand or you wouldn’t. The chances were very slim.
“I have one shot,” you called up.
“Just keep climbing baby, you’re doing so good!” he encouraged loudly.
“I- I can’t. My hand is locked up.”
He cussed and behind him his feet angrily kicked holes in the snow. Tears started falling from his face and passed by you like drops of rain, “I told you to let me! I could have—“
“I love you. I love you both,” you sniffled but felt at peace, you had saved your girl, “I’m going to try my best but I really don’t have much to propel myself from.”
Your hand slipped a little and you could hear Joel’s gasp and Ellie’s cry.
“Ok I’m ready,” your muscles tightened in preparation and you tested the movement. Once you were satisfied that you’ve done all you could you started your countdown, “On, three-two—one.”
To give yourself some credit, you did make it farther than you thought. Probably a hands length away from Joel’s, but you knew from takeoff that it wasn’t enough.
You briefly saw the look of absolute horror on their faces as you took in as much air as you could, and shielded your head with your arms as you plunged into the freezing water.
You of course knew that water was powerful. It helped shape the earth with its constant rising and falling. Given time its pressure could smooth a stone, could forge new paths and create new bodies of water. It grew vegetation as easily as it could flood and drown. Any living thing needs it or would die. Water was both life and death, it was a powerful, powerful thing.
But you didn’t truly respect it until now. It tugged you under and slung your body around like a ragdoll filled with nothing but cotton. You had never felt so weighed down and yet somehow so weightless. You were so distracted by the sheer force of it that the sharp burning from the cold came later. Then oddly enough the need to breathe came even later than that.
After a few seconds of pathetically trying to fight it, you quickly realized you could do nothing but patiently wait for a current to bring you to the surface for a chance to get air.
It happened faster than you had anticipated. Before you knew it your head was above the water and you were gasping for oxygen. Some water got in but that didn’t matter to you in the slightest.
You glanced to the side at the riverbank and for the first time you noticed how fast you were moving. You were absolutely flying down the river.
You went under a couple more times, and were banged around—hitting some rocks here and there, which would bruise but nothing serious.
There wasn’t much farther to go as far as the rapids were concerned. The river was long but if you could make it another one- two minutes tops before it slowed and calmed.
What a jinx you are.
Your ankle was suddenly caught between two rocks. You were stuck and the angry currents were pushing at the side of your face, trying their best to force you back under. You took a deep breath, and went under to try and wiggle your boot free. It was of no use so you untied the shoe and were launched free immediately. It took you by surprise and rolled you a few times—disorienting you, and then your luck ran out. You hit your head, everything went black.
When you fell he almost jumped right in after you. As matter of fact, if Ellie wasn't with him he would have. His whole body shifted forward begging him to leap, but Ellie’s hand quickly grabbed his shoulder tugging him back up, as she yelled out after you. She anchored him to the spot and kept him from acting irrationally.
He sprang to his feet, “Look for her I’m gettin’ the horse.”
She quickly got up and ran along the edge. It's funny that moments ago she was so scared to even go near it- now she was sprinting alongside it, the only fear she felt was for you. Her eyes combed the water trying to get a glimpse of your now flailing form, they were stinging from the cold but she refused to so much as blink.
She looked farther down and saw you, just as you were thrusted up for air.
Joel passed her on the horse and she pointed ahead. She tried to keep up but you were both moving too quickly. She kept running even as she lost sight of you both.
Joel was riding alongside you. It was a difficult task to both keep his eyes on you, and keep his horse from running off the side but he quickly adjusted. You were doing a good job of keeping your head above the water, and he was starting to feel slightly optimistic.
The water was already calming down.
He looked back to you all of that previous optimism died along with any hope he had left in him. This time he screamed your name, it was way too raw to be called a yell.
He moved his horse back and forth searching. The horse was as anxious as Joel, it wanted to continue running. His heart was beating out of his chest as he continued crying out for you.
Then he saw you.
You were face down and floating downstream.
He charged the horse and went ahead of you to where the rocks stopped and the shore began. He dismounted, took off all of his clothes except his boxers, and ran into the water.
Even though it was calmer, he still had to curl his toes–gripping at the dirt in an attempt to brace himself with each step. When you floated near he swam out to you. It was rougher out where you were.
When he reached you he quickly turned you over.
You were so blue and he couldn’t tell if you were breathing.
Fortunately for the both of you, he was a swim champion in his teenage years and a pool lifeguard was his first job. He swam fast and strong and there was no way you’d release from his grip.
When his feet touched the bottom he cradled you, and trudged through the water as quickly as he could–water splashing all around as his strong legs ran you to shore.
Ellie was waiting, bent over trying to catch her breath.
He got you out of the water and laid you down in the snow.
“Is she breathing?” Ellie gasped as she looked down at your blue face.
“I don’t know yet.” He felt for a pulse but didn’t find one. Then he put finger under your nose to feel the air. Nothing.
“Damnit,” he immediately started chest compressions.
Ellie’s legs gave out and she sat in shock. She had lost a lot but losing you felt like too much. You were the closest thing she’d ever had to a mom. You were her best friend. What the fuck was she supposed to do without you?
“...gotta be the hero—”
Joel was angrily muttering to you. Ellie could only make out occasional fragments, she wasn’t even sure he knew what he was saying.
“—let anyone else get hurt.”
His voice trembled with emotion.
“Couldn’t just let me…hard headed…”
He was openly crying now and getting slightly winded from the exertion. His body pink from the cold with steam rising off of him.
“—drive me damn insane,”
Ellie was now sobbing with him- broken gasps and labored breaths. She hugged her knees to herself and began rocking.
“…better start breathing I swear to god.”
The horse moved, catching her eye.
“Please- don’t leave me…”
She turned back and watched him desperately pound on your chest.
“—I fucking need you…you hear me?”
That was as close to a sleeping beauty moment that you’d ever get. You started violently coughing up water- expelling it from your lungs. He rolled you on your side so it was easier on you for you to spit up the liquid.
A rush of pure joy overcame him, “That’s it baby get it all out.”
Ellie crawled closer to you like she couldn’t believe that you were alive. Something red caught her eye. “Uh, Joel?” she pointed behind your head, her voice sounding so small.
He was so fixated on watching your face that he hadn’t seen the blood staining the white snow behind your head, “Fuck.”
As you continued to cough he felt around the back of your head. There was a small swollen knot that was split by a not so deep cut. There was no indentation which was his main concern. And head injuries bled a lot, he reminded himself as he looked at his now crimson coated hand.
The coughs slowed down but he started worrying why you weren’t shivering. He was shaking uncontrollably. You were still.
“Here’s what I need you to do- take the horse and bring all our stuff down here. We have to get her warm.”
Ellie was silent. Frozen in fear staring at the blood.
“Ellie…Ellie?!” He said loudly, snapping her out of it, “You hear me?”
“I- I’m on it.” She jumped on the horse and galloped away.
He pulled you so that you were propped up against a tree–he didn't want you to drown in the water you were clearing from your body. He brushed some hair out of your face with his numb fingers–he couldn't even feel the soft strands. Then he started to gather sticks for a fire.
You were in and out of consciousness. You mumbled a few times but never made much sense.
Ellie returned and helped Joel finish building the fire, it needed to be big. He kept repeating that to her.
They set up the tent. Facing it towards the fire so that the heat wafted and was captured underneath. Then he put all the sleeping bags and any fabric they packed inside. By this time Joel was shaking so bad he could barely pick up anything- now all of his appendages were numb. His tremors were now so severe that his speech was broken.
“I’m gonna ge-get all of these wet clothes–off of her, and get her in-inside.”
She nodded, liking the plan so far.
“Listen- I don’t know how to say this a-any other way, but we are going t-to be naked.”
She looked a little put off and confused.
“It’s just for bo-body heat, nothin’ weird.”
“Nothing, weird?”
“You-you know what, I- I mean,” he clenched his fists trying to demand that his body stop shaking.
“Ok so what do you want me to do?”
“I want you…to ta-take the rifle, and be on lo-look out…she has to ge-get warm–”
“Joel…I’ve got this. Just…take care of her..please.”
He nodded in an understanding agreement, if he takes care of you then everything else will be ok.
She picked up the gun and mentally started outlining a perimeter to pace.
He pulled you over to the fire and began to undress you. His hands fumbled with the buttons and he winced when he finally noticed that you were missing a boot. He removed your shirt and jacket, leaving your top half bare. His eyes traced the many forming bruises–nothing near as bad as the last time. Then his hands touched your belt buckle. Visions from mere hours ago when he was unfastening it for a completely different reason flashed before him.
Tears returned and he started sniffing loudly, ‘gah’ he helplessly croaked out as he removed the remaining clothing. Nothing more to note, just more of the same–discolored bruising and small scrapes.
The bleeding on the back of your head was slowing down, though he still wrapped the injury with gauze. The bandage wrapped around and covered the top of your forehead.
He laid you gently on top of a sleeping bag–the tent had a floor but he was trying his best to keep you from the cold ground. Then he put all the other sleeping bags, blankets, and even clothes on top of you. He took off his wet boxers and threw them out of the tent and snuggled as close to you as he could possibly get.
Your skin felt like ice. He hissed at the first contact but without hesitation pulled you to him even tighter. He was truly enveloping your form- legs were entangled, his broad chest and strong arms cocooned around you securely, even his neck and head curled into you. His hands rubbed up and down your back trying to create a warming friction–but you still weren't shivering…you should be shivering.
He didn't know what else to do, and maybe he'd done all that he could do, but that was hard for a man like Joel to accept.
He was warming up quickly, and as he regained some sense of touch, he started to feel your skin beneath his fingertips. You were so very soft, much too soft for hands like these he thought to himself.
Out of nowhere he started talking. He didn't know where it came from, he just opened his mouth and words began pouring out. He wasn't even aware of what he was saying until he heard Sarah's name.
He was telling you about his daughter he then realized.
You had only asked about her twice. Once at the beginning of your relationship when you found out about her for the first time–which led to him wrongly ignoring you for a whole week. And the second was when he screamed her name in a nightmare–he told you to never mention her again, and went for a walk that lasted a whole day. He didn't know why you put up with him.
Last time you were hurt, when he was so scared he was gonna lose you, he told you how she died. And even then, even after he had opened up and said her name for the first time in years, even knowing that he could trust you- that he loved you, he couldn't bring himself to talk about her…that was for some reason until this moment.
He told you about how smart she was, about how kind and funny, and caring. How she loved to make a big deal on his birthday and always found a way to surprise him with incredibly thoughtful gifts. That she loved to cook and take care of him, because she said he deserved to be taken care of.
And as he was telling you all of the wonderful things about his daughter it made him realize that she would have absolutely loved you. The two of you had a lot in common and would have probably harassed him into taking care of himself. His chest felt unbearably tight, he had hurt the both of you by not talking about her–by not talking about her he hadn’t let her memory live on, and by not telling you he had unintentionally kept a huge part of his heart hidden.
Suddenly he felt you. If he weren’t melded to you so tightly he probably wouldn’t have, but he did. You were starting to tremble.
“That's it baby. Warm up for me.”
He kept rubbing your back. He could feel a thin layer of sweat collect between you, it was from him he was certain. He'd gone from cold to warm to quite hot. The fire had heated up the small space in no time at all.
Before long chills started to shake your body and he could hear your teeth chattering. He felt you nuzzle closer to his chest.
“Sweetheart?”
“S’ cold.”
“You'll be warm in a minute.”
“Wha time is…?” your words were slurred.
“Late. We should probably wake up.” he really hoped that you would wake up, or at least seem more alert.
“Yea…”
And then you lost consciousness or fell back asleep one, or maybe both.
An hour or so passed and you were coming down from the worst of your chills. Your teeth were no longer clicking and your skin felt much warmer to the touch.
He felt your head shift to look up.
“Hey,” he smiled, warmly down at you.
“Hi,” you turned your head and took in your surroundings. Saying you were confused was an understatement. “Where are we?”
“You don't remember?” his brows creased and his smile drained from his face.
“I- I remember…ELLIE!” you sat up quickly, he did too.
“It’s ok, she's ok. I promise.” he pulled you into a hug and as your bare breasts brushed against his arm hair you noticed for the first time that you were naked–you both were.
“Joel, what the hell happened?” you asked into the crease of his neck.
He explained everything, and you were slowly able to fill all of the missing holes of your memory–the fall, the battle in the water, the rock that took you out.
“You saved me again,” tears fell from your eyes.
“Sweetheart I’ll save you everyday if you'll let me,” he wiped them away with his thumb, you heard the gauze rustle.
“Wha?” you reached up and felt the bandage seeming to cover your head.
“It’s not as bad as it looks,” he chuckled, “Just a little thing. I might have been…excessive.”
You laughed and the strain of it made you notice the pain in your chest. You placed your hand over your heart and looked at him, obviously confused.
“Yeah…that might hurt for a bit,” he winced. “You- you weren't breathing when I got you out of the water–”
“You had to do CPR!?”
“I did.” he swallowed thickly and looked away.
“Oh, Joel… thank you.” you moved your leg over his lap and straddled him, you grimaced, your body was more battered than you thought. He openly began to weep, sobs wrecked through his body. You rested his head to your chest, and rubbed the back of his head until his breaths calmed and his shaking stopped.
“Ya know, this would be really hot in other circumstances.” you weren't in the mood, not even close. You felt like you had been run over by a truck, you were just trying to lighten the mood. “In a tent, naked with you.”
He chuckled, you felt him smile against you. He turned and kissed your soft supple skin. “I’m so glad you're ok…when you fell, just you can't do that shit.”
You leaned away from him, “What? Save Ellie?”
“Can't just…react. I could have tied something together—”
“If she would have fallen into the water, I would have never forgiven you. You know that right?”
He shook his head, “I never would have forgiven myself but- but darlin’…jesus.”
“I don't want to fight. Not about this and not right now, my head is killing me, but know this Joel Miller- if either one of you ever need saving, and I can, I will.” You grabbed a dry shirt and pulled on over your head. “It isn't something up for discussion, and I won't be talked out of it. You jumped in the water to save me- that was dangerous, we sometimes do dangerous things for the ones we love.” He looked like a kicked puppy but you continued, “If I don’t act, if I sit back and think about it- took time to come up with a plan, and then lost you anyway…then what–then what would be the point?”
You put your hand behind his head and pulled him closer again, whispering against his face, “I know you'd do the same so don't play all high and mighty with me, you will always lose that battle,” you placed a kiss on his lips.
He returned the kiss eagerly. Your lips were chapped but they had never tasted better to him. He pulled you both up so that you were both kneeling, and he pressed your body into his. He wished you hadn't put on the shirt, despite all of the previous contact he still felt like he needed to feel you.
“Joel…” you reluctantly warned into his mouth.
“I know…I know–but god I just want to feel you right now.”
You hummed in agreement and stayed for another minute or two, and then slowly backed out of his embrace. He smoothed back his hair and looked around for his extra clothes. You threw his boxers at his face, he laughed and grabbed you back to him- suddenly catching you off balance and the jerking motion hurt your head.
You hissed and massaged your temple.
“Shit I’m sorry.”
“It's fine..I think I need to lie down.”
“You ok?”
“Yeah, just need a minute.”
“You rest,” he tucked you in and kissed your forehead, “I’m gonna tell Ellie that you're doin’ better.”
“Kay,” you closed your suddenly very tired eyes.
Come morning it was snowing. It was a pleasant snow, the kind that was peaceful to watch with large flakes that floated down to the earth. You had slept straight through the night. Joel and Ellie took turns, taking watch and staying by you. You woke with a ravenous appetite, and ate enough for three meals. Neither of them said a word, in a humorous delight- they just watched you scarf down the food.
They both insisted that you rode the horse on your journey home. You didn't want to, but you would admit that your equilibrium was still somewhat off, and your body was very sore. So you relented and did as they asked.
When you returned to Jackson, the doctor examined you and said that you had a mild concussion and were still experiencing the symptoms from hypothermia, but were otherwise fine. You'd just have to take it easy for a week or two.
A week later you were working back in the armory, this time though you had no complaints.
When you came home, you opened the door and was immediately hit with a delicious aroma, “Joel? Ellie?” you called out a little suspicious. You tended to be this family's chef.
“In the dining room,” Joel responded.
You could hear the two of them whispering hurriedly, and you heard silverware clanking around. When you entered the room your jaw dropped.
They were both dressed up. Joel with a nice dark blue buttoned up shirt that you'd never seen- the sleeves neatly rolled up, dark pants, and his hair looked styled with…what was that gel? Ellie was wearing a white buttoned up shirt, and she had her hair down with one small braid off to the side (you had taught her how to braid her horse's mane and she was getting proud of her skills).
The ambiance was almost romantic, dim with nothing but candles lighting up the room. The table was set like they were expecting royalty and they had a bottle of wine in front of where you usually sat.
Joel moved to your chair and held it out for you, “Your chair Madame.”
“What is this?” you hoped you didn't look as shocked as you felt. You did.
“I made you dinner.” Ellie said proudly, “So sit.”
She left abruptly to retrieve the food.
You chuckled and sat. Joel pushed you in like a gentleman and then placed your napkin in your lap. “Wine Madame?” He was trying to do a french accent but it oddly just sounded somehow even more texan.
You giggled, “Oui Monsieur.”
He laughed, “Am I not garcon?
“A little boy?”
He looked flustered, “Oh…I reckon I don't know much French.” He filled your glass almost to the brim. He looked nervous.
You giggled again, “I don't either.”
Ellie walked in with a massive pot. It was a stew loaded with meat and potatoes. Then she went back to the kitchen and brought out some bread rolls that she learned to make from a sweet old lady.
“Ellie…what is this about?”
“I just– I just wanted to do something special for you. Joel said that you mentioned doing this before and I thought it might be something nice for you. I just…you fucking saved me.”
“Ellie–”
“No, I know. It still just sucks. How do you thank someone for saving your life ya know?”
“Easy.” you smiled lovingly at her.
She tilted her head in curiosity.
“You live yours baby.”
She moved to you quickly, and sat in your lap.You held her tightly, and she pressed into the nook of your neck.
Joel shuffled and stealthily wiped his eyes.
She sat up and looked at you, her eyes were red, “I don't really want to cry any more.”
“Then hop up, and let's eat.”
She hugged you again and then stood.
“Tell me about what you made me.”
She smiled and told you about everything in great detail.
Dinner was immaculate, that sounds over the top but it truly was. Once you had all cleaned your plates she returned to the kitchen and brought out a pie. A pie!!! You don't want to admit it, really you don't, but you ate half of it.
You were so proud of her and kept flooding her with compliments.
When everyone finished, you tried to help clean but they shooed you away. Joel grabbed your plate from you and whispered in your ear, “Go take a shower, I'll be up in a minute,” and gave you a rather passionate kiss.
You ran upstairs and took a very quick shower, your body was throbbing with anticipation. But alas, with belly full wine, pie, bread, and stew- after your warm relaxing shower- laying on your comfy bed that smelled of Joel's masculine scent- with a content mind and body, you fell asleep in record time.
When he entered the bedroom he saw you splayed out on top of the bed. “Sweetheart?” he asked softly- when he heard you deep breaths he immediately knew that you were asleep. It was hard to be disappointed when you looked so beautiful. He softly caressed your cheek, almost in awe of how incredibly lucky he was. He managed to gently maneuver you so that you were under the covers. He tucked you in and kissed the tip of your nose.
Then he unbuttoned his shirt, opened the dresser, and hid the ring back inside.

Silent treatment

Aaron Goodwin x reader
~~~
There was a time where you wouldn’t even dream of asking Aaron to take a different career path.
As proud as you were of Aaron, you worried of the gut instinct feeling that his career was pulling your relationship of two years apart in slow motion. You just didn’t notice it until after Aaron had come earlier than planned when he had gone to investigate the Winchester Manson with the crew back in San Jose, California.
Ever since than, you watched and feel as Aaron seemed to be becoming more distant and even cold towards you. You tried sitting him down to talk about it, but he was stubborn and didn’t listen, wouldn’t listen to you and that did hurt a lot. You felt that you were running out of options on ways to get to the bottom of things and it wasn’t long before you couldn’t take anymore of it and had actually made arrangements to meet Zak at a coffee shop to talk about Aaron. This felt strange to do, but you didn’t know what else to do, you didn’t want to breakup. Breaking up was not an option in your book, it never will be.
During your time with Zak, you both decide to try and talk to Aaron together. That almost turned out disastrous, half of it turned into a screaming match, everyone yelling at each other and saying things no one meant at all. But when Aaron brought up the topic of breaking up, you couldn’t handle it anymore as more things have been said. Zak seemed to be surprised yet disappointed when Aaron suggested breaking up.
“Are you kidding me, Aaron?”
“I don’t think so.” he admits to you.
“Do you really think breaking up will do us, or anyone else good?”
Aaron only glared at you.
“Aaron, you can’t do this, you can’t shut me out. Please don’t shut me out.” you plea with him.
That was the end of it.
Talking to Aaron obviously hadn’t worked as you hoped it would.
All of this could have been left behind in the past, but Aaron was being difficult and wouldn’t let you in. You were upset and decided not to talk to him for the following days ahead. It’s not that you weren’t doing this to purposely hurt Aaron, you just wanted him to see what you were seeing. It seemed to have worked, giving Aaron the silent treatment actually brought him back to his senses and he didn’t like or appreciate your silence. That’s when he knew how badly he must have messed up, and had become determined to make it up to you.
Aaron convinced Zak to help him out on that, they put their heads together and had the idea that Aaron should gift you with something special. They had gone to the store after Aaron mentioned that there was a piece of jewelry that he knew you had been eyeing to Zak while you stayed home, unaware of what was about to happen. Aaron decided to get you that heart shaped pendant necklace along with (f/c) dozens of roses. Once he had everything, they had gone back to your house to find you, which wasn’t hard. When Aaron walked into your shared home, he found in the kitchen, preparing a meal. He walked in with the gift bag and flowers, not knowing this was going to be the first time you talk to him in days.
“Do you want any of this?” you ask, gesturing to the meal you were preparing.
“Actually, no. I have something for you.”
Aaron hands the gift bag over to you and as you open it, you couldn’t help but gasp, pulling the heart shaped pendant necklace you had been wanting.
“It reminded me of you.”
A smile was brought to your face, light up the room and moods.
You almost didn’t know what to say, so you decide to tease him a little.
“Is this your way of trying to be apologetic? Because you need to try harder.” you tease.
You were only kidding.
But when he presented the (f/c) roses to you, you were shocked.
“You shouldn’t have. I forgive you, though.”
Since than, your relationship has been improving.
It was all okay now.
Thank you for requesting!!! 💜
Meet the Parents (A Thanksgiving Tale)
A/N: As Thanksgiving approaches in the US, I want to express my gratitude for everyone who supports my writing. Here's a Thanksgiving piece about Gatsby from A Rainy Day in New York having an awkward visit with his girlfriend, Chan's family. 🤭(There are some phrases in Spanish, so the translations will be in this font). Please enjoy.
The weather was finally feeling crisp and cool. Being away in New York for a period of time meant that I got accustomed to the blustery air and fog upon my breath as I made my way across the city. Now, I was home in California, where the seasons took a while to come around as they all tended to blend into one. However, the leaves were finally falling and the wind was strong enough to wrestle pedestrians’ hair, which was exactly what was happening to my boyfriend, Gatsby at the moment.
I giggled as I watched his ever messy curls dance in the breeze. I reached out my hand and pushed them lightly out of his face, making eye contact with him.
“Are you ready?” I asked him, as a crooked smile crossed his lips.
“To meet my girlfriend's parents? Gosh! Can anyone truly ever be prepared for that?” he replied with a shaky laugh.
I smiled at him. It was endearing to see how nervous he was because it showed how much valued our relationship.
“To be fair, this isn't the first time that you've met them, but it's true that this is the first time seeing them since we became official,” I said, taking his left hand in my right one.
“I know it's cheesy, but I just want to leave a good impression on them. My Spanish isn't up to part either, which doesn't ease the nerves,” Gatsby said, with an apologetic shrug.
I raised his hand to my lips and kissed it, chuckling to myself as his cheeks flushed an adorable shade of pink.
“They both speak English. my dad is not 100% fluent, so that's why he prefers to speak in Spanish,” I replied.
My parents were migrants from Latin America, who came to America in their early twenties. Their first language was Spanish. My mom studied for a few years in the US before permanently settling here, which helped her pick up the English language quicker. My father was a mechanic, which made it a little easier for him to get by with a conversational understanding of the language. Regardless, he was taking night classes to improve his skills.
“I know,” my boyfriend replied, his green eyes twinkling mischievously. “ I am bilingual too, so maybe I can charm them in French.”
I swatted him playfully with my sweater sleeve.
“Dork,” I said with a smile. “I don't think it works that way.”
“I did bring your mom a quiche though, so the French side of me will make an appearance no matter what,” he joked.
I chuckled. “Noted,” I replied, as I stepped on my tiptoes to give him a quick peck on the cheek. He quickly responded by turning my chin gently to face him. Then, he placed a tender kiss upon my lips. I melted into his warmth. Oh how I loved this man!
“I care so much about you,” he whispered as we pulled apart.
“It shows,” I replied teasingly, but I also meant it sincerely. What other reason would he travel across the country with me to join my family for Thanksgiving dinner? He was truly the best.
Gatsby shook his head in amusement at my slight jab, and we walked hand in hand about another block to my parents’ apartment.
“Ready?” I asked, as we climbed up the outdoor stairs to their front door.
“Ready,” he replied with a smile. I could tell that he was still nervous, but our little chat had calmed him down a bit.
I rang the doorbell with one hand and held my boyfriend with the other. I waited a beat, and heard my mom's two chihuahuas, Fonzie and Richie, who were named after the characters in Happy Days, my mom's favorite show here in America, bark to let her know that she had visitors. I heard footsteps rushing to the front door followed by the sound of her four locks being opened.
We were then met with her smiling face as she swung open the door. “Hola, mi reina. Como estas?” (Hello, my queen. How are you?) she said, eagerly enveloping me in a tight embrace. It felt comforting to be in her arms again after so much time of being thousands of miles away from her.
“Estoy bien Mamá y usted cómo ha estado?” (I'm good Mama. How have you been?) I said into her shoulder as the embrace continued. I knew that my decision to move away from home was tough on both of us since we'd been inseparable for my entire life.
“Bien, bien,” she replied as we pulled apart. “Corriendo como una gallina sin cabeza porque tu papá se fue a la tienda y se le olvidó el achiote. Entonces tuve que ir yo a comprarlo hoy en la mañana y me retrasé.” (Good. Good. I'm running around like a headless chicken because your dad forgot to buy an ingredient at the store, so I had to go buy it this morning. Now, I'm behind schedule).
I chuckled as she described her dilemma of trying to finish the meal on time after my father forgot to buy one of the main ingredients at the store.
Suddenly, my mom looked up and faced in the direction of Gatsby, who was watching our reunion with a smile upon his face.
“Y este guapo quién es?" (Who is this handsome fellow?) She said with the sly smile, knowing very well who he was since I never shut up about him during our phone calls over the past semester. It was evident by the way that the tip of his ears turned red that his Spanish was good enough to understand my mom's compliment.
“Buenas tardes señora,” he said politely. “Yo soy Gatsby, el novio de su hija y es un placer conocerla.” (Good evening mam. I'm Gatsby, your daughter's boyfriend. It's a pleasure to meet you.)
I smiled at his seamless use of Spanish. Impressed, my mom gave me a pleased look. She wrapped him in a hug as well, which in turn made him even more flustered. So far so good, I thought to myself as they exchanged greetings and he gave her the quiche that he brought.
As we headed inside, the smell of pan con pavo and mashed potatoes filled my nose. That was the beautiful thing about being from two different cultures, the blending of traditions always made for festive family gatherings.
Inside, the home was bustling with activity. We were quickly greeted by my two older sisters, who were both married and brought their husbands and children to the family gathering. I hugged and kissed them in greeting, and then brought them over to Gatsby. My siblings exchange looks with each other in glee. I know they were dying to discuss all the details of my new beau during the first free moment the three of us had to ourselves. It would be like old times sake when we discussed crushes with each other within the privacy of our crowded, but cozy room.
My thoughts were interrupted as I felt a small tug upon my sleeve. it was my youngest niece, who was just a few weeks shy of turning four. I smiled and picked her up.
“Hi! Long time no see. how are you?” I asked, booping her nose playfully.
“I’m good, tillita (auntie),” she replied between giggles
Then, she turned towards Gatsby and snuck a glance at him.
“Is that your husband?" she asked me, attempting to whisper, but her voice was still loud enough for him and everyone else in the near proximity to hear.
My eyes widened in surprise, “No, sweetie. He's my boyfriend,” I replied quickly.
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Boyfriend?” she questioned, clearly not familiar with the concept.
“He's someone that I care a lot about, but no, we're not married like your mommy and daddy are,” I replied.
“Later, you get married?” she asked, with the insatiable curiosity of a toddler.
“Honey!” my sister exclaimed suddenly, clearly mortified by my niece's nosy remarks. “I am so sorry!” she said apologetically to Gatsby, who’d remained eerily quiet during the entire exchange.
I turned to face him and was surprised to see that his nervous look from earlier was replaced by a grin that spread from ear to ear.
“No, no. It's okay,” he said, his eyes twinkling. “She's bold and asks the hard questions. I like her.”
My sister looked relieved that my niece hadn't made him feel uncomfortable. In fact, my boyfriend winked at my little niece playfully, and she giggled, further solidifying that there was no bad blood between them. My heart melted at the scene. Who knew he was so good with children?
Suddenly, I heard someone clear their throat loudly. I looked around and was surprised to see my father standing in the doorway of the kitchen, observing the scene before him.
“Papa!” I said, heading over to greet him with a hug. He reciprocated the gesture and lovingly placed his chin on my head.
“Hola mi hija. Qué bueno verte de nuevo,” (Hello my daughter. How lovely to see you again.) he said, sincerely.
As we pulled apart, his gaze landed upon Gatsby.
“El es tu novio?” (Is he your boyfriend?) my father asked, studying the man before him, who was smiling nervously. My father wasn't a strict parent, but he always wanted what was best for us. My eldest sister shot me an empathetic look because he acted the same way when she brought her now husband home for the first time.
“Sí papá, él es mi novio, Gatsby quien conocí en Nueva York” (Yes dad. He is my boyfriend, Gatsby whom I met in New York.) I replied with a smile, as my boyfriend took a step forward and stretched his hand out as a greeting.
“Buenas tardes señor. Mucho gusto conocerlo,” (Good evening sir. It's a pleasure to meet you.) he said, warmly.
“Igualmente. ¿Cuánto tiempo llevan juntos?” (Likewise. How long have you been together?) my father asked, and like my mother knew very well when we started dating, but I figured he was just trying to make conversation.
“Seis meses” (Six months) Gatsby replied, and I could tell he was trying to maintain a stable conversation in Spanish.
My father nodded. “Qué bueno. Espero que tengas apetito porque mi esposa y yo hemos preparado una cena muy rica,” (That's good. I hope that you brought your appetite because my wife and I prepared a delicious dinner.) he said. I knew that this was a mini test because my parents took pride in their cooking, so my boyfriend's reaction would be important.
The young man beside me squeezed my hand lovingly. “Muchas gracias señor y sí uh…” (Thank you sir, and yes uh...) he paused awkwardly, recalling how to say the next part of his sentence in Spanish.
“Tengo muchos hombres,” (I have a lot of men.) Gatsby replied, proud of himself for remembering how to respond correctly.
However, the chatter in the room suddenly came to a halt. My boyfriend must have sensed something was wrong because he squeezed my hand a bit harder, which I reciprocated. My father took a step closer to us and studied with my partner.
“Tienes muchos hombres?” (You have a lot of men?) he asked with a serious look upon his face.
Gatsby nodded uncertainly, and I heard my youngest sister snicker behind us. I shot her a dirty look, and she immediately stopped.
“Papá, ya para por favor,” (Papa. Stop please.) I pleaded, giving him a knowing look.
Suddenly, my father's serious look morphed into one of amusement, and he let out a hearty laugh, unlike any I had ever heard from him before. Gatsby looked over inquisitively at me, and I shrugged with a laugh of my own. He gave me a small smile in return.
My father placed his hands upon my partner's shoulders and said mirthfully, “Son, you just told me that you have a lot of men. I think you meant to say, Tengo mucha hambre (I am very hungry)” he said between laughs. I watched as the color drained from my boyfriend's face. He turned to face me, searching for confirmation. I nodded reluctantly and watched as his pale visage was replaced with an embarrassed red one.
"I'm so sorry! he exclaimed, completely forgetting to respond in Spanish. “Yes, all I meant to say was that I am very hungry!” He ran his hand through his hair awkwardly. “I'm still in the beginning stages of learning Spanish,” he admitted.
My father, who was still grinning in amusement, nodded his head empathetically.
“My English is not good. I understand,” he looked at my blushing boyfriend in the eyes. “I'm only teasing you m’hijo. You try. That is important. You're a hard worker. I see why she likes you.”
I smiled at my dad, gratefully. “Es un buen muchacho, Papa (He is a good man, dad),” I replied.
My father nodded. “Sí, se nota. Cuídalo bien.” (Yes, it shows. Take good care of him.) he whispered in my ear as he wrapped me in a warm embrace, before heading off to help my mother finish the final touches on dinner.
Gatsby and I were left alone in the living room, as my sisters and their families went to set up the dining table. He held his head in his hands and said in a muffled voice, “Gosh! I’ve never been more embarrassed in my life. Now, your whole family probably thinks I'm a player,” he said with a groan.
I giggled and removed his hands from his face.
“Nobody thinks that. They all understand that it was a slip of the tongue,” I responded, reassuringly. "In fact, do you want to know what my dad said?”
He nodded, reluctantly, and I looked into his beautiful emerald eyes.
“He said that you're a good man and not to let you go,” I replied. “I think that's more than enough proof that he really likes you. Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard him laugh so loud.”
Gatsby gave me a hesitant smile and rolled his eyes good-naturedly. “Glad I could be of service,” he replied.
I smiled at him and said, “He's right. The way you acted with my little niece, my mom, and even my sisters proves how incredible you are.”
I took a deep breath and held his gaze. “That's why…” I began nervously. “That's why I love you.” Now, it was my turn to blush, as I finally voiced the emotion that had been blossoming inside me.
His eyes widened at the confession, but quickly softened as he gently took my chin in his hand. “Do you know how long I've wanted to say those very words to you?” he asked with a shy smile.
“Really?” I asked, almost breathlessly.
He nodded. “I love you so much, and if that means that I have to make a fool of myself in front of your parents to prove it to you, then so be it,” he replied.
He leaned in closer and shut his eyes as he placed his lips, which were slightly chapped from the cold, onto mine. His taste was sweet and tender as he expressed his love for me. I placed my hands around his neck and then ran them through his gorgeous curls.
We stayed like this for a while until I heard a little voice behind me say, “Abuela says dinner is ready!”
Startled, we saw my little niece standing in the doorway, staring at us with a smile as she said, “Are you sure you two aren't married?”
Flustered from being caught in the act of a passionate kissing session, I didn't know how to respond. To my surprise, Gatsby chuckled and replied, “No, we are not married.”
He bent down to her level and said in a hushed voice, “Can you keep a secret?” She nodded eagerly.
“Ok. Then, you can be the first to know when it happens,” he said in a whisper to her, but still loud enough for me to hear him. I felt myself flush at his words.
My niece giggled as she replied, “Okay!”
As she ran back into the kitchen gleefully, Gatsby shrugged playfully at me. At that moment, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.
The family dinner only solidified that feeling. I watched as he helped my mother serve the pan con pavo. He and my father exchanged jokes in Spanglish, which cracked up the entire table. My niece loved him, and my sisters loved him for that. The occasion wasn't picture perfect, but it was beautiful. The memory of this evening was one that would be engraved in my head, and it was the story that my niece recounted years later as she raised a toast to us on the night of our wedding.
You opened your eyes when you felt the soft sea breeze on your face, and the smell of salt invaded your senses.
How long had you been asleep?
The sacrifice you had made in the last magical war had been... was 500 years ago, you were surprised to see how long it had taken you to wake up this time.
But you couldn't deny that you were delighted when the rest of the coven and other magical beings found out that you finally woke up, you had won the admiration of everyone.
As you ate your breakfast, you kept thinking about everything you had to learn new, the world had changed too much.
However, as you looked over the documents you had been given to learn about the most important magical figures that existed after what had happened to you.
You stopped to look at Steve's, something about it caught your attention, and you felt something itchy in your arm as you were reading.
Several days had passed and you couldn't stop thinking about Steve, the papers said that he had also sacrificed himself just like you. When you asked, they told you they didn't have a single piece of information on his final location, they tried everything, to no avail, but you knew of a way to find him. The only thing you were missing was an updated map, the ones you had were too old and useless.
Fortunately, your box, where you kept everything important, was still intact, you took one of the crystals, recited the spell and quickly the crystal showed you where it was.
You were simply following your intuition, which told you to find it.
You waited until nightfall, you didn't want anyone to know what you were going to do, and you didn't plan to answer their questions anyway.
Stealthily, you approached him, he was lying there asleep, and that's when you started the ritual to wake him up, if it was really what you thought, you were the only one who could make him open his eyes.
You smiled when you realized it was working, after a while his beautiful blue eyes saw you, at first he looked confused.
“Do I know you? “Steve asked you.
“You tell me, it's been a long time," you answered.
“I've been looking for you all this time.
“I know, some things went wrong.
“I don't know what happened last time, but it doesn't matter, you found me," he said.
“We're finally together again.
“What are we going to do?
“First I want to show you the new things in this world, it's so changed, then we'll make up for all the time we weren't together.
Finally, the mark had stopped itching and had regained its color, you noticed Steve's too.
🎈 anon here im going to keep going on about pantalone with his darling who makes him handmade gifts (same thing not a request if i have a request I'll probably specify because im v worried u have too many and i dont wanna add to the pile :< so if i dont specify treat it like me approaching you in the middle of the night going absolutely insane about the silly little criminals in my computer, like grabbing u by the shoulders shaking you and everything) i had to put the brainrot in my notes app to finish because the Tumblr app is held together by glitter glue /affectionate
OK SO BACK ON MY INSANITY we're doing bracelets for this one too because im a silly little self insert enjoyer. so i was thinking about how u said he'd keep them in a little box and i just, went insane because it was so cute in my head.. Imagining him keeping them especially safe compared to his other jewelry, and while it's on display and he'd be a bit upset if they were taken by a disgruntled agent, he could just buy another one. Although if one of his darling's handmade pieces of jewelry were stolen he'd feel so bad for not only letting it get stolen, but knowing that you worked so hard on it for him but it got stolen so quickly :( He'd hire or personally look for it until the ends of the earth and if his darling found out and was like "i could've just made you another one he would be like, gothic bold font "no" and i find that really cute!! lonnie is such a cutie patootie i need to squish him!!!! Anyway i keep imagining him being so proud of seeing his darling improve as he keeps getting these cute gifts handmade from them.. ok but also what if his darling made a bunch at once and told him to close his eyes no peeking (how would that work actually his eyes are always closed uhh power of brainrot ig) and they put them all on him at once and he's like ":0" and he's super excited and and and (starts sobbing violently /pos) ALSO IMAGINE IMAGINE LIKE.. WHAT IF HIS DARLING GETS HIM INTO THEIR CRAFT TOO.... AND THEY WORK ON IT TOGETHER..... PLEASE I AM MELTING I AM GOING CRAZY anyway i love pantalone 10/10 would chew on him again also will update u if more thoughts infuriate my brain you are not safe from my brainrots they will haunt you forever <3
i know i specified earlier that im 🎈 anon but i feel weird without doing the little dash thingy so - 🎈
IM GRABBING YOUR SHOULDERS SHAKING U AFFECTIONATELY AS WELL 🎈 ANON...
You're so right nonnie, bro's the type of guy to not bat an eye at his jewelry worth millions of Mora being stolen but then internally start panicking when he realizes something you gave him is gone. His brain is working overtime even more than usual trying to figure out how he's going to get it back. (And if he orders the regular Fatui to look for it, he gives them a look to not question him whatsoever on why he is so concerned about a not expensive at all handmade piece of jewelry as compared to literal gold <3) (From then on he's keeping your creations under severe lock and key, he's never letting that happen again, feels secretly guilty about that even though you weren't even mad 😭)
Reader: hey, don't feel bad about it! i can just make you a new one love-
Pantalone: 𝖓𝖔
And omg Loonie? For Pantalone? That's such a cute nickname I'm stealing that now 😭 Okay but consider: I think Pantalone kind of has like a business brain, meaning he's always thinking of lucrative opportunities and such. So for a split second he thinks hey... this is kind of a sweet business. But then immediately he perishes the thought because the idea of anyone else receiving your cute little handmade jewelry makes him unreasonably upset. Only he shall ever receive these from you and it will stay this way.
And omg yes he gets so happy seeing you improve 🥺 He kind of sees himself in you. Because he had to work hard to improve his own craft. And seeing you so happy while working on your stuff makes him so happy to <3 I hc him to be really good with his hands, so he'd actually be real eager to join you with your bracelet making (he makes one for you too and you refuse to take it off)
#smooches talks#🎈 anon#pantalone love notes <3#i love self inserters with my whole being#the way u write pantalone is so <3 i want to eat him#no LITERALLY U MAKE ME SO HAPPY TO WRITE PANTALONE#also no one knows how closed-eyed anime characters see 😭
hey op your post about aita phone bill. i apologise if this is forward, please understand i am reaching out out of concern and not to upset you or be disrespectful at all. 🙏
your descriptions about your parents worry me as it sounds like they are engaging in abusive behaviour. i have chronic migraine and my parent did the same actions as your parent (dependent on them, feeling 'in debt' to parent for all the help they gave me ("i pay for all this, and i'm sick too"), guilted for spending maybe $30 on myself, etc) and it was only as i got older (23, 24) that i realised there was abuse.
but i also acknowledge our illnesses are different and that you are in a situation where you cannot yet be on your own and so have to 'make do'. please continue talking with your therapist because they may help come up with strategies to deal with some of the abuse-like behaviour that seems to be happening. once you have your chair, i strongly suggest you continue saving in case of emergency (in case you have to rush to move out or similar), i really hope things improve for you.
there are 'work from home' jobs online that you can do from a laptop/computer such as data entry or transcripting where you wont need to stand. if you havent already, i also suggest reaching out to others with pots who could provide help, tips, advice, and support and understanding of what you are going through. there are tumblr users with pots who trained their dog to alert them before an episode (so they dont faint/sit down before the episode), maybe there is a pots crowd fund to help you get your chair? is there somewhere we could donate to help you??
remember: do not let them guilt you into thinking you are broken or costing them 'their time, money, effort, life' etc... they are parents, they should be rising above that. it is not your fault illnesses cost money to treat, that disability is not often considered by others in the world - it is NOT your fault you are unwell 💖
I’m aware that I’m being abused… I’ve come to terms with it. It’s hard even accepting that, of course, because I love my parents, and most days they’re wonderful people… But I’ve had to learn that even if they’re good people, they aren’t good parents in the slightest, and I have to differentiate between the two. Perhaps even that isn’t true, but it’s just what I tell myself in the hopes that someday they’ll see all the damage they’ve done and feel remorse and regret.
Also as a byproduct of how I was raised, I physically can’t accept “handouts” — even if I know it’s for my own betterment. I want to work for what I earn, so I can never be accused of being lazy or a leech like my parents so often imply. My parents have a dog that’s already trained to be something of a diabetic alert dog, although unofficially, and he often alerts to me at times as well, though for different reasons related to my POTS (I’m hypoglycemic as well, plus fistfuls of other diagnoses). I’m still saving up, though what I have isn’t much. I have some support in place, and I’ve been trying to integrate myself into more POTS support systems (I lost almost an entire year of my life just to recovering from when it initially hit me, so I admit I’m a bit slow to the uptake), I’m reaching out to doctors and therapists and anyone who can help…
For now I just. Have to wait.
If you’re able to offer me even a penny, I’ve got KoFi and other money apps to that regard, and in return, I’m happy to provide sketches or full on art pieces of whatever you’d like!! Though I understand if some are hesitant to take those routes. My friends are coaxing me to the idea of starting a GoFundMe, but it feels like a “cheap” way out, and that I’m not able to pay back such kindness, so I’m hesitant. Like I said: I want to work for what I get, in any way I can.
And truly, thank you for this… It’s nice to hear I’m not crazy for thinking the way I’m treated is wrong. This didn’t upset me, but it surely made me cry just knowing that some strangers on the internet are so kind. Thank you, sincerely. <3
#spotty speaks#ask#anonymouse#I should probably come up with a tag for this sort of thing huh#spotty help#that’ll work for now
Day 2: Self-Mutilation
(Disclaimer: the character in this story does not belong to me. Phantom is the property of Nathan Sharp and Give heart Records. Also, please note that this scenario happened sometime before the events of the Phantom music video.)
(Trigger Warnings: body horror, knives/blades, gore, blood, exposed bones, ritual, implications of illegal business, drinking, strong language. Please let me know if I missed anything.)
Day 1 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 Day 11 Day 12 Day 13
The cane didn’t seem like anything special at first. Oh sure, its wood was a glossy shade of black, and its hilt had been crafted to resemble a set of three curving, silvery talons.
And while that did set it apart from more standard walking-sticks, it still looked. . .cheap. Fragile. Like something you’d find in either a gas station or a sidewalk vendor’s booth, alongside bootleg toys and the like. (The claws weren’t even grasping anything! They were just clutching empty air! What was the user supposed to do, intertwine their fingers with it? Because if that was the case, then that was just sad.)
Even so, Phantom had wanted it. He knew he hadn’t been drawn to it like some fantasy B-movie might suggest. He just so happened to be in the market for a personal talisman. No magic-user could fully conduct their power without a talisman. Not even one with an eldritch-level status like him.
He’d visited numerous antique stores and curiosity shops and what have you. He’d already come across a few interesting candidates (a rainbow-steel switchblade, a fountain pen with an abalone-esque pattern, too many rings and necklaces to count, etc.) but none of them stood out to him quite like the cane did.
It didn’t matter how the cane had probably been slapped together, how the metal of its claws would potentially turn pink wherever it was most often touched, how it’d likely been sheer dumb luck on the manufacturer’s part to include quality wood.
None of those things mattered, because Phantom took pride in being a creative bastard.
He’d transformed a handful of condemned buildings into places anyone would like to visit on their nights off, hadn’t he?
He’d managed to keep his underground empire safely under the radar centuries now, hadn’t he?
He’d earned a reputation for having one of the largest soul collections on earth, hadn’t he?
Shaping this cane into something stronger, something better, something real. . .how hard could that possibly be?
___
As it turned out, improving his new talisman might be just a wee-bit harder than Phantom had thought.
Not like that was going to stop him, mind you. He’d already paid a sum that was more than this cane was actually worth. (For now, at least. Once he was done with it, the price tag would be much, much higher than any measly amount of dollars. . .)
Phantom murmured a song in his monstrous native tongue as he paced, carefully pouring a jar of white powder on the floor at the center of his personal den. The powder in question was a mixture of ashes and ground-up bones, courtesy of the last idiot who’d tried to steal something from him.
The shape he was creating almost resembled a mandala, if not just a piece of abstract art. With how he had to constantly shift his hand in order to get each part right, his wrist honestly might’ve snapped if he was human.
Even with whatever was festering in his gut right now, Phantom still appreciated the irony of that thought.
Once the symbol was finally complete, Phantom set the now empty jar aside and surveyed the purple-stained shelves that made up one of the four walls here. His eyes settled on two glass bottles.
The first was a wine decanter that he’d cleaned out a few weeks prior. (Just because he was a horrific abomination didn’t mean he was ignorant about reusing and recycling, Karen.) The liquid now residing inside of it was the same color as a bruise, churning of its own accord. Phantom had brewed it and poured it into the bottle to cool about an hour ago.
The second was a much smaller vial that had been molded into the shape of a human skull. This one contained an emerald-green oil; the way it glowed looked radioactive and appealing at the same time.
Phantom took both of them into his hands and strolled back across the room. He sat down in the center of the bone-powder symbol, setting the bottles down beside him, then peered at the table in the corner. He bared his teeth in a sharp whistle, and the cane came soaring like an over-eager dog. It stopped to hover before its owner at a horizontal angle, waiting silently for his next move.
Phantom had already popped one of his spare orbs into the space between cane’s three silver claws. (Not only had it been such a perfect, satisfying fit, but it could also give him an excuse to cause some hell-raising if his rivals ever tried asking him about how he pondered it.)
But, of course, that wasn’t enough.
Making a talisman required a lot more sacrifice.
With that in mind, Phantom decided to stop with the dramatic effect and just get this over with.
He glanced back and forth between his legs. He wasn’t sure why he couldn’t decide which one to use for this ritual; they were just part of his disguise, after all. Whatever damage was done would be minimal. Still, as he leaned forward, he specifically rolled the right pant-leg up to his knee. (Humans always made a big deal about things being on the left.)
He then uncorked the skull-vial, pouring some of its contents into his cupped free hand. Once he decided there was enough, he reached up and slathered it all along the cane’s stem, leaving no square-inch untouched. After that, he drained a little more of the green liquid out and applied it to his partially-uncovered leg. He had to be more careful with it this time, tracing a network of jagged, spiraling lines onto his false skin.
By the time he was done, there wasn’t much of the potion left. Then again, that wouldn’t be much of a problem: it was a simple concoction of ink, tears, and blood. He’d have a fresh batch ready in no time.
The stuff in the wine decanter, on the other hand. . .it was one of the few things that beings like Phantom struggled with. He cringed as he raised the bottle closer to his face. The odor leaking out was almost similar to the fresh, distinct scent that always followed a good rainstorm—geosmin, if Phantom remembered correctly. Except if geosmin had an oily bite to it, as though some idiot thought it’d be a good idea to mix sweat with Pure Evil 13 Million hot sauce for a YouTube video.
Phantom stared down the elixir for a few long seconds, then screwed his eyes shut and took a swig. He had to really commit to the whole Bottoms Up thing, craning his neck all the way back in order to force himself to not immediately spit the fluid out. Worcestershire sauce was already the bane of any eldritch’s existence, so it wasn’t much of a surprise that adding spleen milk and apple cider vinegar to it made it even worse.
It tasted like it was insulting him.
How the fuck did that even work?!
But that didn’t change the fact that this particular mixture proved so effective for most self-involved rituals.
So, Phantom drank about half of the decanter. Once he knew he’d consumed enough for his plan, he set it down beside the skull vial (it took some effort not to instinctually chuck the decanter across the room).
He could already feel the emerald oil tingling on his skin, as well as the Fuck You Juice starting to boil in his stomach. However, he knew from experience that potions were a bit similar to computers: they almost always seemed to need at least three and a half days to start working.
Phantom shifted to lie down on his back, stretching his arms and folding his hands behind his neck. It was his turn to wait as he stared up at the cane.
Sooner or later, something manifested inside the orb it was holding. That something flickered at first, like indigo embers at the bottom of a firepit. But as he watched, it grew larger and brighter. It transitioned from energy to a solid mass, and it writhed similarly to an octopus in a cramped aquarium.
There was still barely anything to prepare Phantom for what came next.
The muscles inside Phantom’s right calf began twitching, much more violently than the occasional spasms humans typically experienced. The ensuing sNaAaP was as sickening as it was muffled. The lower half of Phantom’s leg buckled, most definitely not bending the correct way. The involuntary movement suggested that he’d just been hit with a reflex hammer that was somehow on steroids.
Phantom’s dark, toxic blood sprayed out as a glistening shape tore its way through his flesh. Considering how hard it really was to break bones (especially with how resilient Phantom’s disguise was), it was no surprise that both the tibia and fibula looked a little worse for wear. The ends that had formerly been connected to the patella were now jagged and splintery, tangled with strands of skin.
Phantom’s ankle effectively dislocated, which sort of felt like all the times it’d just randomly rolled when he walked for no reason. Except this was worse, because the talus didn’t seem ready to be snapped like a gory KitKat bar.
The partially-exposed bones bucked and shook like an animal in a trap. In response, whatever amount of Phantom’s blood that hadn’t spilled yet decided to grow claws. The layers of Phantom’s skin shredded themselves apart. A few pieces were sent flying as the gash grew wider and wider.
Finally, with an awful Strrr-cRaCk, Phantom’s lower leg bones rose into the air. They twisted around the cane to a chorus of popping and clicking, like a strangler vine growing around a thin tree.
A sharp, sizzling hiss buzzed through Phantom’s ears as the bones started steaming, starting melting. But they refused to drip down onto the floor below. No, instead, they just kept sliding all over the cane, slowly but surely soaking into its material.
Phantom wasn’t sure how long it took for the absorption phase to be complete. His pain receptors weren’t active, of course, but something about watching your own body parts be mauled and repurposed by unseen hands just seemed to make time slow down.
Eventually, the cane appeared clean once again. Aside from the remains of Phantom’s leg, there was no evidence that anything had happened to the cane at all.
Phantom raised one of his arms, holding his hand open to the air above. The cane faithfully drifted toward him. The wood felt like snakeskin as Phantom closed his fingers around it. After a few seconds passed, he sat up on his haunches, holding the cane a bit closer for examination.
The metal hilt was hot to the touch. Its trio of claws were sharper than before.
The orb now appeared empty, but Phantom knew better.
A satisfied grin etched its way across his features—way more satisfied than it probably should’ve been for a guy whose leg looked like it’d been shoved into a garbage disposal.
But that wasn’t a problem. His disguise’s bones had grown back before, so they’d grow back again. In fact, the healing process would probably be even faster than usual.
Phantom’s new talisman was ready for service, after all. . .
HOLD ON. Now I'm imagining an AU where none of the Senshi were assigned to the muffler project.
Obviously they could just choose to make a muffler with their leftover yarn. But let's assume they don't, just for this exercise.
A one-piece dress is quite a traditionally feminine item. I don't think Usagi could make that for Mamoru or Tuxedo Kamen. (Is there a market for tuxedo-like one-piece dresses? And if those exist, do they have capes? These are important questions, universe, please provide.) I think Usagi's angsting over Mamoru and Hina would be there no matter what, but no muffler would be involved and that would change things a little bit.
Makoto's gift to Motoki, though! The muffler is crucial! Would he even fall for her if she didn't give that to him? Would it happen later? Or would she NEVER ping on his radar, at all?! I can't handle that thought; it's too sad. Although... Makoto might still see Motoki's injured arm and make him curry. And then that would still lead to their first date, right? So the day is saved? But he won't have the muffler, is all.
Ami's gift to her friends? ...Well she'd want to do it, but maybe it wouldn't physically be possible, I mean that's a big difference in time and material needed--
Actually, a muffler and a one-piece dress don't seem comparable in time, effort and cost at all. This assignment sucks!
...I'll improve it by headcanoning my old ship into the situation, ha!
Ami ends up making the one-piece dress for Makoto because...uh, I don't know, some bullshit reason I haven't concocted yet. Makoto is very much not at the point where she's revealing much of her femininity yet, so that's why I'm having a hard time justifying it.
Anyway, screw logic. Ami asks Makoto to model for her dress project. She wants to challenge herself and Makoto's unusual height for a girl would provide that. Makoto blushes and stammers over it, supremely uncomfortable, but a tiny part of her is jumping for joy.
Now, Ami wants a 100% on this project if she can manage it, so she and Makoto have to hang out more often for adjustments. At first it's just that, but then Ami runs out of fabric and they head out together to get more. This evolves into them just hanging out in town too.
Because they're spending more time together, they also start to learn more about each other's psychological baggage and this eventually gives them the understanding they need to help each other become the best versions of themselves. (Makoto's attentiveness--and the emotional validation it brings--makes Ami less insecure, Makoto feels so comfortable around Ami she starts to reveal just how feminine she truly is, etc.)
Something something, Ami gets over Usagi at some point, she and Makoto realise their feelings for one another and they have a lovely wedding in gorgeous dresses. ~FIN~
(Not to come off as self-important, but if anyone wants to take this really rough idea and go wild, go right ahead and write/draw/whatever it. Just link the final result to me so my eyeballs can feast.)
Arkhelios Adventures
“Alright Your Highness, let’s have a good clean game. I’ll try not to go too hard on you.”
Remy confidently set up the chess board while Victoriana watched. Adam and Theo and Ewan had all disappeared somewhere and Remy had finished her own part of this plan. Until her brother made up his mind about how she could help him next, Remy was taking a well deserved break with Pleantview’s crown princess.
Honestly, she figured that Adam was just looking for attention with this whole half-brother plot. Ewan looked nothing like her other siblings, aside from maybe the way his ears were shaped. She didn’t want to be crass, but if the guy had told Theo he was related to Adam, then he probably only wanted money from them. Otherwise, what difference did it make if her father had another kid? He wasn’t seeing anyone, or at least Remy didn’t know if he was seeing someone, and he raised Miruna pretty much alone without scandal. Adam worried too much for his own good.
“You didn’t set the pieces right.” The princess scowled at the board, switching game pieces around so that they were correctly placed. “Do you even know how to play this game?”
Remy frowned, inspecting the updated positions of her pieces.
“Of course I do. I was just testing to see if you did.”
“Uh huh.”
Despite Adam’s constant anxiety and Remy’s love of the chaotic, Victoriana was starting to really warm up to the siblings and Theo. She didn’t know many other kids who would hang out with her and just like her for who she was and not for the throne she would one day inherit. Adam and Theo were obsessed with each other and Remy wasn’t the kind of person her mother had warned Victoriana about, so she’d come to enjoy hanging out with her future step-mother’s family. They reminded her of her mother’s own chaotic family in a way.
“Oh man, this is going great. Ewan doesn’t suspect a thing,” Theo snickered, incredibly proud of his plan. “We just need to figure out how to make the pact work. I dont see anything relating him to you at all.”
Adam tried to hold in his laughter as best he could. They had a mission that they needed to focus on, but all he could think about was how easily they ditched Miruna and Remy. Ewan had gone wandering on his own, probably being followed by castle security to make sure that he didn’t steal anything, which left Adam and Theo largely unsupervised so that they could begin their plan.
“Oh hey, I think one of the horses broke out of the royal stable!” Remy cried out and Victoriana turned to look immediately. Pleasantview didn’t keep horses or carriages because of the royal family’s ability to teleport and buy expensive cars to travel in. Of course Crystal Cove’s royal family had cars as well, but their traditions were important to them. Victoriana loved horses and desperately searched for them when she visited the Crystal Cove palace, which made her an easy mark.
“Where?”
Remy smirked at her cunning and quickly switched several of her game pieces before the princess turned around. There was no guarantee that she had improved her position any, since as it turned out, Remy didn’t know exactly how chess was played, but it was a gamble she was willing to take.
“I guess it must have been heading back to the stable,” she replied, trying to keep her tone casual and non-suspicious. “It’s your turn.”
“’Stay out of the royal residences’,” Theo recited, mocking Miruna’s instructions and making his boyfriend laugh. “Please. It’s no big deal, they’ll never know we were here. We can’t just do magic in the hallway where anyone could interrupt us.”
“You’re sure this will work? I’m starting to have my doubts.” Adam looked at Theo quickly, smiling to mirror Theo’s own smile. “What if this goes wrong? What if we get caught?”
“Don’t worry so much,” Theo replied, projecting nothing but confidence. “I’m great at getting out of trouble. What’s the worst that could happen? My dad will ground me again? Miruna could yell at us? We need answers and I’m working out of my textbook, so it’s practically homework. We got this.”
“Yeah, I guess that makes sense.”
“So here’s where we set things up,” Theo declared, opening an elaborately carved door and marching in. “This is the former queen’s room. Her husband and kids hated her, so no one ever comes in here. It’s been sitting empty since she died. Todd in potions class told me about it. His dad works here, so it has to be true. Trust me.”
Adam smiled tightly and reached into his pockets to get the materials they needed.
“I trust you.”
“So, anything interesting happen while I was gone?”
Remy recoiled when her potential brother sat beside her. Just because she’d lured him here with the promise of friendship or an adventure of some kind, didn’t give him the right to just sit next to her without warning.
“Where have you been?” she demanded. “You’re my guest here, the palace is going to come after me if something valuable was stolen.”
“So because I don’t come from money, that means I’m a thief?” Ewan asked, shooting her an amused look. “I’m hurt. I wouldn’t have guessed you’d be a snob. You were so friendly earlier.”
“I guess that was my mistake,” she replied quickly. “I’ve misled you. I am actually quite a snob. Oops.”
The two teens stared each other down, each one of them trying to unnerve the other. This Ewan played a good game, but he was bluffing, clear as day. Remy had spent her life in boarding schools and listening to witch politics. Her father had been treated abysmally by the people he tried to serve and some of that hatred had fallen on his children as well. Ewan may live in Pleasantview, but he hadn’t been in the very heart of it, absorbing and reflecting the darkness that made it run. He’d probably never even seen a demon up close before, let alone a warlock of her father’s standing. She couldn’t honestly see anything of the Maricourt family within this fraud.
“Theo’s obsessed with my brother, it’s really rather sad,” she continued. “I wouldn’t pin your hopes on breaking them up if were you. If that is your angle here.”
Ewan grinned.
“I don’t have an angle,” he said with undeserved confidence. “I thought you invited me here to make the day less monotonous. Was there something I missed? Has Theo asked about me?”
Remy wrinkled her nose in disgust at the very idea of interfering in her brother’s love life. This plan was starting to get uncomfortable, but Adam had begged her not to bail on it before they had an answer. She couldn’t deny wanting a firm answer about whether this jerk was her brother or not but the idea of spending even more time with him was agony.
Theo had better hurry up before something unpleasant happens to this asshole.
