Something I'm enjoying so far about rogue trader is that it takes the world deadly seriously. The inquisition fights heretics and evil aliens and those things are real and horrible but they also abuse their power. They aren't cackling villains who do things for the sake of evil, they believe it all. You believe it all too, because you've seen it. But that power is also abused, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not. There are no angels. Just people attempting to claw their way through a brutal, unforgiving universe.

i wonder if any of these up and coming or even current music artists get notifs if you listen to their albums/songs super heavily.

the actual artist of the song whether its a band or solo, they can know who their biggest fan is based on that, bc so and so listened to 1000 hours of said artist in any year/month? like for example - user seancamerons listened to 1000 hours of britney spears for example (which i probably have done tbh!). are they even aware?

idk if that's a thing even if they don't publically address or share it on their social mediaor are they all in the dark about how much listeners they have on a day to day or monthly basis bc the only care/motivation is for buying albums/singles is a thing? or is that even dying? or they pay attention to streams? i'm kind of concerned.

This is something I think about literally constantly because. Like. We are all Us to some people, and we are all Them to some people. Actively. Currently. But it's easy for people to forget that.

Human history is defined by different Uses in conflict with different Thems, and even talking about it as "history" gives the impression that it's in the past. But it's not. Literally every single group that exists falls victim to Them vs. Us mentality sometimes. Often with good reason (Us is actively being oppressed by Them so Us has to come together to protect Us). I fall victim to thinking this way all the time myself, even though it's something I'm aware of and am actively trying to combat.

I'm not trying to prove a point here or anything, I'm just frustrated and venting because I don't know what the solution is. But what I DO know is that as long as people think in terms of Us vs Them there will always be conflict and tragedy that could have been avoided if some or all of the people involved had thought of Them as Us.

Now that I work with a bunch of homophobes, I feel the weight of being a 'one of us.'

"Why are women so --- oh but not you, you're different."

"Why are gays so--' but you're not like them, you're more like us."

Krusty The Bird Killer rants for five minutes about black women being 'sluts that all have eight kids with different fathers because they'll lay with anything that moves,' and then talk sweet to our secretary, a black woman in her 40s who doesnt seem to count as a black woman when he's ranting.

I've been trying to put words to this behavior for awhile now. And I think it just comes down to 'us vs them.'

I showed up to work in a cowboy hat and work boots, wasnt afraid of the men's room, and lifted a 50 pound trash bag full of dog shit on my first day. I'm not like other women to them. I dont count. I'm one of us.

I talk about my girlfriend in a quiet way: I dont declare queer supremacy and I dont make my whole life about being queer and oppressed. I'm not like other lesbians. I dont count. I'm one of us.

They dont know me. They dont know my girly interests and they dont know about my political art pieces and they dont know about the fake eyelashes that I wore during pride. They certainly dont know I'm trans.

I passed their test. I'm 'one of the dudes.'

I'm really not, though.

If they saw me outside of work, I would be a Them. But they got to know me first. I'm in their list of "thems that are us." And every them that they meet can be an us. But they dont go out of their way to meet many thems.

I'm a Gay. I'm not the Gays. I'm (to them) a woman. I'm not Women. The secretary is black. But shes not The Blacks (pardon the phrasing, it hurt me to even type it that way.)

Every person is the stereotype of their group until someone gets to know them. But that doesn't disprove the stereotype- it just means that the person doesnt count as part of that group anymore. They're with us now.

Respectability politics really dont get us anywhere. If you're out to disprove the stereotype out of a sense that you'll change their minds, I'm telling you that energy is better spent living authentically if you are safe to do so.

Your influence on them doesnt change their perception of the box they put you in. They just put you in a smaller box. Fuck their opinions.

Was looking at refs and since Viktor has two different leg braces I was wondering, do we think he wears them simultaneously?? The refs don't perfectly line up perspective-wise so it's hard to tell but parts of the one he wears during the Hexcore scenes look like they could maybe line up with the brace that he wears over his clothes, but also some parts really don't and look like they'd be super uncomfy. Also HOW does he take these on and off. Experts weigh in

it's so SO fucked up that the buddie thesis of the show has been there since s02 e08 with Thomas telling Buck "you don't find it, son, you make it", and ever since then Buck has found person after person and has kept reaching and reaching for one of them to love him, not understanding why he can't make it work, while at the same time building a home, a haven, with Eddie. he's been making it this WHOLE TIME and 6 seasons later, he STILL thinks he doesn't have it

I often do think it is important to call myself a woman. In past I've had kids ask me "are you a man or a girl" and in hindsight I think these kids were quite perceptive of the world. Especially when you're in your 20s it's men and girls, I've seen students write pieces describing themselves as men, but their female peers of the same age they call girls, but I have also heard bisexual women say they like both men and girls. In past I've fallen into that myself and said that yeah I'm a lesbian I like girls, but do I? No I am in my twenties and I am actually only attracted to my fellow adults - women. It does feel more serious, less trivial, both to be and be attracted to women as opposed to girls, and that can be a bit uncomfortable to be faced with. It is also important to me as a butch. I am no longer a tomboy I am a butch I am no longer a girl I am a woman. I am a woman and women can be like me. I don't feel like I've succeeded enough at adulting to call myself a woman, but that doesn't matter. I am 25, and if the word bears other connotations so be it, that's not my problem.
