December prompt 5: Cozy night
Just the younger Araknos/Blackthorne siblings playing some boardgames. Unfortunately Hitomi's shadow goop kitty has a bad habit of trying to eat the pieces to make her win...
Coulda included their elder brother, but didn't feel like drawing three characters at once lol
(Hitomi belongs to @mad-hatter-rici)

Art prompt challenge day 2: Cookies
This prompt was hard to figure out, but I decided to go with a photo about Ichirou's late mother Meredith. So far she's mainly been just a footnote/name in a BG summary, but I feel like she'd deserve to be more of a character too, even if she's no longer present physically.
Since this description once again ends up kinda needlessly long, more thoughts/info under the cut (I srsly need to get better at this, why are my descriptions easily a mile long? brain plz):
Since Meredith is/was a part of a goth family, ofc her outfit is a lil gothic, though not as much as her brother's fashion sense is.
She's making cookies and her toddler wants to help decorating them; I initially meant to include Jurou/Alistair (her bro) on the background, but decided it was likely he took the photo, so he's not there. Also, I decided that Ichirou doesn't have his line markings under his eyes yet; I'd say they manifest later in life rather than being present since birth. (same story with the spiderweb marking Meredith and her brother & father have)
Her pose was difficult to figure out, I had to search up references for what I had in mind, it's not quite the correct vibe, but I just couldn't get the idea to work the way I wanted, so I had to compromise with her pose. (Originally she was meant to hold up the bowl in one arm and be stirring it vigorously with the other, that just kept looking weird, so I went with a simpler pose.)
Also, the background is actually a photo I've taken some years ago somewhere, and I modified it for this piece (adding colors, removing some details, changing details, basically using just a part of it, etc). I have SO many photos I've taken that honestly, I could sometimes utilize when making backgrounds, I just rarely tend to have the kind of photo I'd need, I got lucky with this one.

My friend's bday is soon, and since she's currently very into the Spiderverse movies, I figured I could draw her some stuff relating to it, as my physical gift will be late this year due to being busy with moving. (I haven't had time to go see the movie either despite wanting to, unfortunately)
So. Decided to draw the Araknos siblings going to see it as the first thing, since figured the spider-themed kids would make sense for this lol (Their older brother is probs there too, but he's a sea serpent and I wanted to focus on these two only)
Hitomi is dressed as Spider-Gwen as apparently she'd be her favorite, and Ichirou just picked Miles because all he knows rn is that he's apparently the main(?) character.

UPDATE; Forgot Ava's fae tail. Also decided to add some shading because why not?
I've always wanted to make one of these but rarely have patience for it. I decided to try and tackle it today, and in this case I decided to only focus on what I consider as the "main" characters of NCP.
There are plenty of highly important side characters, but that would be its own set I reckon. Maybe I make that later? That set would have wayy more ladies too, I was kinda disappointed how the "main" group ended up only having 2 lol, albeit the 2 are hugely important.
Curse my eternal struggles with designing women
Also tried to kinda show the difference in the body-types that I've imagined for them, but....I'm not that good with it yet, so the differences with these 8 aren't that big OTL
(Note; Hitomi, the little girl at the end, belongs to my friend @mad-hatter-rici)
Brief intro of each character below for those unfamiliar:
Jurou Alistair Araknos: The Protagonist protagonist, a single dad Soul Eater tattooist, who recently found out he has a half-human daughter from a previous relationship. He's already been raising 2 adoptive sons, but a daughter is a whole different situation... especially given she's partially human.
Caelan Delune Araknos: Jurou's first adoptive son, a sea serpent who he took in after he lost his family & Caelan's adult cousin was unable to take care of him due to mental troubles. Despite not being a Soul Eater, his family embraces him fully as one of their own.
Claude Faylune: A tiger-butterfly fae from a once well-known swordsman family. He works in Jurou's tattoo parlor and is also dating his oldest son, Caelan. While he's got a temper, he's a very trusted friend and coworker.
Avane Faydream/Ava Mantis: A mantis fairy, Claude's coworker. The daughter of an influential Council member/head of a special secret agency called The Shadowless. She knows her dad too well, and does not always agree with his tactics, often getting secretly involved to steer things into a better direction. Knows her father is keeping an eye on Jurou due to his power, and does her best to make sure her boss won't get in trouble with the Council.
Roman "Lupo" Bosco: A Grimmhound and a former mobster, he was rescued from his forced servitude by Ava and Jurou, latter whom removed his cursed tattoo on his neck, that kept him from escaping his abusive/obsessive boss. Now works in Shinji's cafe and is Ava's loving boyfriend/often acts as a guardian/protector for the two youngest kids of Jurou when he's unavailable.
Shinji Yoma: A Dream-eater and an uncle of Avane, he is much more knowledgeable about things than he let's on, as intelligent and cunning as his older brother Kenzo (Ava's father), but notably more kindhearted. Runs a cafe next to Jurou's tattoo parlor and is his current love interest. Often works together with Ava to keep Jurou from getting in trouble.
Ichirou Araknos: Jurou's nephew/adoptive younger son. He is small for his teen age, due to being born prematurely. His mother died of Soul Eater equivalent of cancer, and his abusive father was devoured by her secretly some years before her death. Ichirou is a Soul Eater like his uncle, but also has puppeteer powers inherited from her puppeteer demon father.
Hitomi Araknos: Jurou's half-human daughter. Her mother Saeko had a relationship with him years ago that they mutually broke off due to him feeling he was too dangerous for her; he hadn't been aware she was pregnant at the time, and only found out once Hitomi used her mother's summoning amulet to call him there, as a group of magic obsessed zealots were trying to harness her powers for their purposes. Saeko sadly died during this attack, but Hitomi was saved, and now lives with her father.

Spooktober day 5: Lights and lanterns
Wanted to try a more challenging angle for this, as the idea itself was so simple. Araknos siblings watching Hallow's Eve lights rise up while holding the pumpkins they carved. Also Hitomi's shadow-kitty is wrapped around her neck, in her "scarf mode", as Nori can shapeshift lol
UPDATE: adjusted this slightly by bringing their eyes closer together, that's what turns out was the detail that bothered me
(Hitomi belongs to my friend, @mad-hatter-rici btw)

December prompt day 8: Ichirou
...I wonder if I should've asked my friend to not include character names as prompts, they actually don't necessarily inspire me that much at all. Anyway, I ended up skipping a couple for now as I didn't have ideas for those, as I don't have to do these in order anyway.
I initially intended for all of these have a wintery setting, but I'm SO tired today and had no energy to essentially create an indoor bg for this, so....it's a photo from sometime during summer, when Ichirou's family went on a picnic alongside his honorary big brother Clover, and Clover's honorary aunt, Franziska. (The one off-camera Clover is speaking to)
Clover likes using Ichirou as a comfy headrest lol

December art prompt dump
Since it's already the last day, I don't think I can make any more of these; I hoped I'd been able to do so, but I was simply too busy or lacked motivation. Regardless, here are the (comic panel, minus one as it doesn't have a comic panel version) versions of the ones I did manage to make to end the year;

(The overall theme was "Araknos/Blackthorne family shenanigans" btw, also the reason for two surnames is they use different one depending on if they are at home or in human world)

UPDATE: I was always bothered a lil bit how his face looks in this, and I finally figured it out; his further eye was a tiny bit too small and didn't look propotional to the other in relation to the angle of his head.
Been having a shitty day, and since my friend ALSO ended up having a bad one, I decided to just draw one of her favorites from my characters.
Ichirou is practicing with his arachnid Soul Eater rune magic. I figured that having the runes be like...spider web patterns would look neat and make sense.

Ichirou's late mother, Meredith Araknos
I've wanted to draw her for a while now, but didn't have an idea until now. Also, since she passed away before the main timeline of NCP, I decided I wanted to make her portrait into something more storytelling-like, rather than just a generic character portrait.
More info about Meredith below:
Meredith was Jurou's younger sister, and the reason she has a western name (Specifically welsh) instead of Japanese is because their father is not Japanese, and he and Yui wanted to give names for their kids from both of their cultures.
Ichirou inherited her haircolor and kinder nature from his mum, whereas his lighter, more pink skintone comes from his grandma/biological father.
Meredith was more of a spider-woman like her mother than a Soul Eater, even if she did have both abilities; unlike her brother, son, and father, she didn't need to eat souls to maintain herself.
She devoured Ichirou's biological father after finding out he had sinister intentions towards the boy, wanting to use his unique powers for things Ichirou would never want to do (He also tried to kill her, as she got in his way)
She didn't initially realize he was bad news because he was very charismatic and good at masking his true self from her. Her family did feel like something was off, but didn't wish to prod into her life too much against her wishes that she'd already accused them of, something she did regret telling them at the time after everything was said and done.
Meredith eventually passed away from a Soul Eater's equivalent of cancer, where her soul eater powers began to devour her own soul.
She was close with her father Harrow especially, and he always regrets not being there when she passed, being a fugitive at that point.

Arakons what is in your opinion the success to good parenting?
Tumblr media
Full disclosure: parenting is a complex topic and this is purely based on Jurou's personality, and my own experience as a former child with a fairly good parents, where this particular trait was very helpful with me given how emotional/anxious of a kid I was.
As Jurou himself says; different children have different needs.
Thank you for everybody who's sent asks so far btw; I'm keeping these open till tomorrow evening, as tomorrow is also a free day for me still.

So....while the design I initially tried to give Jurou for his Soul eater form didn't fit him, I liked it enough to utilize it for a lore-related character when it comes to his family; their ancestor, who is the origin of the Araknos name. (It is NOT her real name, but a title people gave her.) She has more of an important role in my Starknight tag, rather than her family's main one though...
More info about her below:
She was the last Soul Eater, that their King Deity Amaros created; every single one born after her were, well, born, not people given powers by him.
Before this, she was some type of night sorceress, though her exact theme is long forgotten. She however, did already have something to do with Spiders, which is why it became her main motif.
She was also one of the very few to unlock all three types of Soul Eater powers at the same time, and have them be balanced. (This is ultra rare, there's nobody in existence in current generation who can do this - yet. Ichirou has potential for it)
She had a brief relationship (unknowingly to her; she wasn't aware of his true identity) with her Deity's brother, Samar, which gave birth to Jurou's family ancestor; a son that reminded Jurou himself a lot which is why Lady Araknos is especially fond of Jurou. (she later had couple other kids, but those bloodlines did not survive to current days)
She was given her powers by Amaros, because he saw potential in her, and she wanted to find a way to protect her hometown from being demolished by dark forces.
She is actually also the origin of the sinister reputation of Soul Eaters, because she did, in fact, kill a Deity. What people don't know however, is that she was asked to do so by Their main Deity, The Life Guardian Spectra herself, because this Deity in question had attempted to kill Amaros, which could've led to the deaths of all existing soul eaters. She was unwilling to let Amaros risk his life due to his important role in maintaining balance in her world. (Amaros was against this, but she still chose to do it)
Her soul is unwilling to rest, because once she found out her first lover was behind this traitor Deity incident, and Samar still wants to kill his brother, she's chosen to stay and watch over her last surviving bloodline. She believes it could potentially give birth to someone strong enough to challenge Samar. (Which it did, in the form of Jurou AND his nephew, Ichirou)
Little did she know however, that all that's actually needed, is two mage brothers who have nothing to do with Soul Eaters, but everything to do with the two Deity siblings....

Finished the next set. Unfortunately it turns out, even for this one I had only 2 ladies...one of which isn't mine, again, lmao
Aimi (the last one on the right) belongs to @mad-hatter-rici
Anyway, short intro of each character below:
Harrow Araknos: The father of the beloved Goth Dad Jurou, a shadow elemental Soul Eater. He is bit of a rebellious and troublemaking figure, who has been, and has escaped prison. Despite all this he loves his family dearly (he ended up in jail because of his desire to protect his son) and while they argue and bicker a lot, Jurou does care about his father - even if he'sa frustrating reckless fool sometimes.
Shura: Jurou's childhood friend, a special type of light spirit native to the mirror world called Vigour Spirit. Shura is the opposite of his gothic bestie, being a very happy-go-lucky goofball, who knows how to not take himself too seriously. He is not one to be underestimated however, one of the very few people in the world who could actually defeat Jurou in battle.
Lawrence Faydream: A Dream-eater/bogyeman spirit and an influental member of the "Overshadowers Council" that handles the matters of dark beings - soul eaters, dream eaters, werewolves, etc - in the Mirror world. He is also the head of a special group/organization known as Shadowless, whose job is to protect the mirror world's secrets and prevent humans from essentially destroying themselves with powerful Mirror world artifacts they do not understand properly. Bit of a devious figure with plenty of shades of grey to his character. Father of Jurou's employee, Avane.
Angus Belmont: A Blood sage warlock who works as a doctor, being the family doctor for the protagonist family. Has some ancient dragonic heritage, hence his natural shapeshifting ability his powers give, gave him permanent dual eyes. A single father who is often powered by black coffee and pure spite towards needing to sleep. He's generally seen as scary but reliable doctor. He also has a secondary job as one of the Shadowless Kenzo commands.
Yui Blackthorne: Harrow's wife and Jurou's mother, she is a spider-woman from japan, who is a famous Jazz singer across the Mirror world. She spends most of her time nowadays spending time with her grandkids, sending them gifts and so on. Yui does still record, but doesn't do that many public concerts anymore.
Clover Belmont (Oliver Blanc): Angus' adoptive son and the best friend/honorary big brother figure of Ichirou Araknos, the nephew/adopted son of Jurou. Clover has a difficult, traumatic past hence he's changed his name from his original one. He is a witchboy with very unique power-mix that while powerful, unfortunately causes him lot of health issues like digestive problems and disfigured sickly thin waist.
Aimi: The right hand woman of Lawrence, a Grand Fairy who didn't want to become a guardian spirit for a child like her kind usually do. She does spywork/intelligence gathering/threat elimination for her boss - or just brings his daughter her lunch she forgot. Aimi is bit of an oddball in nature, but she is not to be underestimated despite her apparent silly goofy nature.

UPDATE: I now adjusted these to showcase his new full redhead look. I decided to just adjust the old files and add these new portraits to replace the old ones. Should I have redrawn the full body looks too to make them match more closely as there's some minor detail differences? Probably yes. Am I going to? No, too lazy lol.
Anyway, here's his (updated) bio:
Name: Jurou Alistair Blackthorne
Alias: Araknos of this generation. (Araknos is a title passed on to the strongest members(s) of each generation that gives them some special perks)
Age: considered to be in his late thirties/mid-forties (I.E middle aged) by Soul eater standard. from human viewpoint, he's between 100-150
Height: 195 cm
Occupation: Tattoo artist (Artisan level)/full-time single dad
ABOUT TATTOOISTS: In his world they play a more important societal role than just being specialized artists. ;here are 3 ranks with tattoo artists, known as Artist, Craftsman, and Artisan. ARTIST: The basic level of skill, basically similar work to human world tattooists. Mainly means they do not use any magic in their craft as they aren't certified for it (yet/don't want to/Can't train further for whatever reason) CRAFTSMAN: Advanced level of skill, applies cosmetic magic into the tattoos, such as giving them color shift, glow, and movement. ARTISAN: Highest level of skill needed, includes more serious applications for magic, such as creating protective seals, or aiding medics and doctors with healing spells, exorcisms, etc.
Family: mother Yui (A popular jazz singer) Father Harrow (A fugitive of the law) late sister Meredith, nephew/adoptive son Ichirou, adoptive son Caelan, Biological daughter Hitomi. Distant cousin family the Murasakis. (the exact relations are veeery complicated, so they're just called his aunt/uncle and cousins) Even more distant relative Taiga (A kitsune)
Friends: Closest friend Shura, a special type of magic spirit. Shura's beloved Shika, a chimera. He's also friendly with his staff at the parlor, Claude and Avane.
Love interest: Alois Faydream, a Dream-eater running a cafe next to his tattoo shop. he also had a short relationship with Hitomi's human mother Saeko before this.
Abilities:
Soul Devouring: As a soul eater, he can devour the souls of anything that has one. He also has the rare and forbidden ability of "God Eater" which means he can even devour the soul of a Deity, something they normally can't do. (think beings from ancient Greek/Roman/ Egyptian mythology basically) He's also naturally very resistant to possession as a Soul eater, and can devour any soul trying to do so.
Transformation: being a Spirit type Soul eater allows him to give himself sharp spider like limbs on his back, create massive spider-like monsters from his shadowy demonic aura, use spiders to deliver messages and so on. He even has a demonic form, which has very sharp claws that can even cut through metal
Inhuman body: He is incredibly durable and can basically only be damaged by light magic based weapons and attacks. He's also physically strong, able to tear people to pieces with his bare hands if he wants to.
Soul Link: Like most Soul eaters, he can create mental links with people he trusts, and sense if they are in trouble. Soul eaters do this automatically with family, but outside them Jurou currently only has links with Angus, Shura and Shika.
Summoning Stone: Like most soul eaters, he creates "summoning stones" naturally, that appear in random places in human realm. He has no control over this process, apart from occasionally willing for one to appear in a specific place, such as the stone he gave to Hitomi's mother before they parted ways.
General magic knowledge: He knows some old dark magic spells that allow him to open portals to the human world even from the deepest parts of the Mirror World normally inaccessible from human realm.
Artisan tattooist skills: Jurou has the required knowledge to create complex magic tattoo seals as well as undo them if necessary. (example; create one to ward off possession, remove a curse tattoo, etc)
Araknos title priviledges: As the current holder of the title, Jurou is capable of contacting their ancestral spirits - including the original Araknos sorceress herself - and has access to a special secret library with all the forgotten/obscure knowledge their family had gathered over the centuries. (Jurou isn't actually aware of this until later on in the story)
Weaknesses:
He has gone through a lot off loss in his family; his father suddenly committing a seemingly atrocious crime and being jailed, losing his sister to her sickness, and having to leave Hitomi's mother behind, later finding out she'd died. All these things have left him wary and not liking to open up to new people easily in fear of losing them again. He's also very protective over his family he does have left because of all this, and they could be used as a leverage against him.
Because of people's natural fear towards him, he tends to be easily irritable and blunt towards those who don't know him well, having little patience for nonsense and feeling self-conscious over being perceived as something he doesn't see himself as (evil/dangerous). This makes him difficult to approach for many, which in turn worsens their fear towards him unfortunately.
He tends to be the type to not share his woes openly, often being the person everyone is leaning on for support, so Jurou doesn't feel like he's allowed to show weakness most of the time.
He has somewhat of a turbulent relationship with his father where he's easily irritated by his father's antics and argues with him a lot, something Jurou does wish wasn't a thing. He's still bitter towards Harrow for doing what he did, and not at least telling them the reason.
Personality:
Jurou is mostly very calm and collected person who isn't shaken easily by anything. He has very little patience for pointless chit-chat outside his close ones, and tends to get easily annoyed by someone's incompetence.
Beneath his intimidating facade, he is a very gentle and caring father who wants nothing more but to be a good parent to his kids, and do better than his father ever did. He is more affected by people's fears and suspicion towards him than he likes to admit, having the tendency to get hostile if someone accuses him of something he didn't do, occasionally not helping his case.
When he's with people he trusts, he tends to be relaxed and even teasing, and has always been a good flirt (ask Alois or Hitomi's mother). He's quite a thoughtful person and enjoys deep conversations and pondering abstract concepts.
BG Story
Jurou was the first child born for Yui and her husband; he was given the Japanese name "Jurou" (tenth son) because he was born on the tenth day of the tenth month (October 10:th). For a name from his father, he went with Alistair, meaning "protector of people."
His sister was born couple years later, and they named her Meredith from Harrow's language, whereas her Japanese name ended up being Hanae. (She mainly used Meredith as her name)
Jurou was always close with his mother, whereas Meredith was close with their dad. He rarely had time for them though, due to being very busy with his job most of the time. He still did his best to try and spend time with his children anytime he could, such as teaching Jurou how to play a piano.
His father was a member of the Overshadower Council responsible in handling the matters of dark beings, such as Soul Eaters, but did not really like how things worked, feeling like people were being labeled as "evil" just for being born a certain way by the said council. He rather advocated for returning back to the ways of old where there was no such oversight needed, and each Soul Eater could do as they pleased, good or bad, and get treated/punished accordingly rather than be immediately suspected of being bad just for being born.
He ended up thrown in prison after supposedly murdering some of his fellow council members, having snapped without warning. (it is later revealed that these Council members had found out about Jurou's God Eater ability and were contemplating on confiscating the boy from his parents to monitor him closely, potentially imprisoning him for safety and trying to erase his powers) This had a huge impact on Jurou growing up, as he was now known as the child of a murderer. He'd already been treated with suspicion by his peers due to being a Soul Eater, and this made it worse.
The only things keeping him from going down a dark path at the time were his mother and sister, and his childhood friend Shura, a Vigour Spirit who for some reason chose to be his friend despite their opposing natures (Cue introvert getting adopted by an extrovert).
He and his family did learn the true reason behind Harrow's actions eventually, which did also somewhat help him mellow out towards his parent and see things in a different light, though didn't do much to mellow out his frustrations towards his dad.
Years later, Jurou moves on to live in the "entrance city" of Mirror World, the Chrysalis, the only place that can be accessed directly from Human realm. during this time he ends up going to the human realm on his own volition, eventually meeting a human woman whom he falls in love with briefly, though eventually realizes the relationship was too dangerous for her. He leaves her with a summoning stone though before leaving, stating she could use it anytime she needed help.
Unknowingly to him, she had gotten pregnant, and years later Jurou does get summoned, but not by her, but their daughter, Hitomi. He rescues her from cultists who had found out about her powers, taking her in to the Mirror world to raise her, as she had no other place to go, and needs help learning to control her unique powers.
(Before this event he'd already adopted both his nephew who'd lost his mother to an illness, and a water serpent child Caelan, whose family - sans his cousin - had been killed by a pollution spill caused by humans.)
Fun Facts:
Jurou has been asked to join the Overshadowers council by Alois' brother Lawrence, but he always refuses due to what his father did. He's not aware that Lawrence is still planning on getting him to join, and is observing him to find a moment of weakness he can utilize.
In the same way, Jurou is ALSO not aware that Alois and his niece Ava are both trying to protect him from this.
Jurou has a complicated relationship with his father Harrow, as while he's been absent from his life for the most part, and did cause them lot of trouble with his actions, he can't really hate Harrow for his choice given he'd done the same thing had he been in his dad's shoes. He knows his dad loves him, he's just....really impulsive and stupid sometimes.
The rare times they do interact, Jurou tends to get annoyed at his father, as their tempers somewhat naturally clash and he feels like his father doesn't always think before he acts.
Jurou's more calm, less eccentric nature comes from his mother rather than father.
He tends to show his theater kid tendencies only in the human world, when he's Alistair.
You can tell he doesn't actually mind his father's personality that much, given the two other, highly important people in his life. They somewhat share Harrow's eccentric, impulsive qualities, though to a lesser extent (His bestie Shura, and his love interest Alois)
Jurou is extra protective over Hitomi/any woman in his life, because he's already lost two important ones (his sister and first lover)
He and Caelan sometimes duet to have a small-scale concert for the younger kids, with him playing a piano and Caelan his violin. Sometimes if Yui is visiting, she joins in as a singer.
Harrow in fact was the one who taught Jurou to play piano, one of the few rare bonding things they managed to do between his duties, and later being in prison and a fugitive eventually.
Jurou drinks his coffee black, of course. His favorite tea is black tea too, though he also enjoys an occasional Chai latte
Jurou tends to use Alistair Blackthorne as his name when in human realm. This sometimes confuses people because his Asian heritage from his mother is visible on his features, but then he is able to speak with a perfect English or Scottish accent (His family owns a mansion in Scotland).
Despite having Japanese relatives, they ironically are not related to him through his actual Japanese mother, but his father.
Their home is in the same building as his tattoo parlor; the entire two floors upstairs are his home while the bottom floor is for the parlor.
The old mansion in human world Scotland is where his father currently lives in, and it is staffed by four people; two humans and two nonhumans.
He was always creative and since he is good with spells and part of him wanted a job that'd allow him to connect with people more/a more lowkey work, he ended up as tattooist. (In mirror world, tattoos can have magic effects applied to them, such as glowing, shifting and moving images, color change, etc)
Generally his clients tend to be nice and less afraid of him than most others, not to mention his and his staff's work quality is top notch.
Most of his tattoos were made by his staff in fact.
The spiderweb under his eye is not a tattoo, but a birthmark
He often goes to lunch in Shinjii's cafe next door.

Aaand another one done yay. I'm gonna miss Claude's OG look, but I really love the butterfly themed jacket I made him!
Bio below:
Age: 25
Nicknames: Pirate-fae/pirate (Hitomi, his boss' daughter), brickbrain (Ava(his friend/coworker) big bro Claude (his baby brother Milo,Ichirou, his boss' adoptive son/nephew)
Alternate name: As per the tradition of the fae when parents are not both fairy folk (where they have their full fae name, and a combined family name), His alternate name is Claude Danau
(coming from the latin name danaus, referring to a tribe of tiger butterflies)
Family: younger adoptive brother Hayden, non-identical twin little siblings Milo and Celine, mother (NAME PENDING)
Friends: Roman (A grimmhound), Avane (Mantis fairy who works with him)
Love interest: Caelan Blackthorne/Delune (his boss' oldest son)
Occupation: An artist working in the Night City parlor, ran by Jurou Blackthorne, alias Araknos.
About tattoos in Mirror World; While they are mostly similar to human-world tattoos, in this world they can also have more serious applications beyond mere aesthetics; there are also special protection-spell tattoos they can create, or work as a part of exorcism rituals alongside Medic Healers to help cure magic-based illnesses. There are therefore 3 levels of certification tattoo artists have:
Level 1: Artist (basic tattoos, no magic included whatsoever, safe for any beings) Claude is currently on this level. Level 2: Mage-Artisan (Aesthetic tattoos that have harmless aesthetic magic applied, like glow, movement, sparkle, etc. Must know which magic is suited for which type of being) Ava has this qualification Level 3: Exorcist-craftsman/E.C Artist in short (Protection spells, curse diffusing, healing rituals) Their boss Jurou is on this level
Abilities:
As a member of the tiger butterfly clan and specifically the head Danau family, Claude is very skilled swordsman, able to form a blade from his fairy magic. It cannot be broken through normal means, only by having him lose his stamina
He can fly, and while he is not the fastest, Claude has an incredible stamina, able to fly for hours while carrying someone
He has very sharp senses and quite good reflexes thanks to his swordsman training. He's also physically fairly strong
Claude is naturally quite talented artist, which landed him the job in the tattoo parlor.
Personality:
Claude is pretty temperamental and easy to piss off, and he also gets flustered quite easily, especially around people he looks up to, especially those he sees as sort of fatherly figures. He tends to do this, because his father's death hit him the hardest, and part of him still misses him a lot, and he's often worried he'd be a disappointment to his father, who often pressed the point to him (and all his kids) to live like a good, honorable person.
Despite his temper, he is generally a very kindhearted and well meaning person, who is a very loyal and reliable friend, willing to help out in any way he can even if it causes him trouble later/he's unsure about it.
While his senses are sharp in the battlefield so to speak, Claude can be kind of oblivious in more everyday social situations; it took him a while to realize Caelan did in fact like him back for example.
Weaknesses:
His temper can get the better of him, landing him in unnecessary fights and arguments. Beyond that he's also not always the best at reading people and might blurt out stupid shit without thinking things through, causing awkward situations or unneeded hurt.
His self-esteem issues can sometimes get in the way, where he either acts too impulsively, or doesn't act when he should because he takes too much time thinking if his dad would approve of his action.
Fun Facts
When he uses his sword, he becomes laser focused and weirdly silent, when usually he likes to run his mouth in a fight. It kind of freaks out those who don't know about his "swordsman-mode"
Claude likes both more pattern-based tattoos, as well as more colorful, actual picture type ones.
The heart tattoo on his right shoulder has his and Caelan's initials; Ava made it for him once the two started dating properly. She also gave him the moth & moon tattoo.
The larger butterfly tattoo on his back was made by Jurou, as Claude wanted a bigger one, but didn't want to cover the one he already had on his torso.
The Faylune father was one of those eccentric, larger-than-life figures, who did absolutely love all of his kids, although his impulsivity did lead to a lot of headaches, and his high standards did give Claude especially some issues with worrying over if he's doing the right thing. (His father would absolutely be upset finding out he's unintentionally caused this with his eldest son, it was never intentional)
Claude lives in the same apartment complex as Ava, and they are just one floor from one another. His brother Hayden lives in an university dorm and roomies with his bestie Yoruga, as he's still studying technically, unlike Claude.
Claude got his job after graduating from the artisan academy he studied tattooing in through Ava, who at the time already had an apprenticeship with Jurou, and figured he'd be a good fit as they needed extra pair of hands for the job.
Claude is a good tattooist, but he is not qualified for the more magical, special types yet, and is still practicing to earn his license for that.
Claude likes to pose for Caelan's paintings, though he has a tendency to fall asleep and snore kind of loudly. (Caelan finds it endearing)
The only person Claude finds scarier than Caelan's dad, is Hayden's boss/mentor Angus Belmont.
Claude's family are considered the oldest and therefore most influential family in the tiger butterfly clan. This is also why their surname is based on the general genus of tiger butterflies, rather than a specific butterfly specie name under the Danaus umbrella.

Update: Finally added the circle BG thing to this one
Also, I decided to change his og name as there was no real reason for him to be Japanese.
More info below:
Age: 19
Family: Foster father Angus Belmont, honorary aunt Franziska Belmont
Friends: Ichirou Araknos (A spider themed soul eater), Adam Knight (A chesire cat)
Love interest: Henrik, a human fisherman living in the human world
Currently home-schooled as he needs to catch up to his peers, but his power is too volatile - even by mirror world standards - to allow him to go to a normal high school.
Extra info:
Witch Covenant: The council that oversees all magic users, specifically witches, warlocks, wizards, mediums, etc. They mainly oversee those whose primary power comes from their magic, rather than their being (I.E, without their magic they'd be normal humans)
Blood Sage Warlocks: Powerful dark arts mages who specialize in magic able to affect one's body and mind. often includes transformations of some sort, such as in Angus' case he can transform parts of his body into dragonic type of things. (The term "Sage" is mainly used because blood mages are fairly rare and most still existing are old men/women. Angus and Clover's late 'father' are the few members of a younger generation)
Personality:
Clover is a temperamental, kind of a troublemaker teen whose temper leads him to end up in scuffles and fights a lot. Despite this he generally means well, and doesn't mean to cause concern to his loved ones. He has abandonment issues and trauma from his childhood, and doesn't like being left alone when sick for example, and tends to get overtly worried if he does something he perceives could make Angus mad at him. (it doesn't happen a whole lot)
Because of his isolated early childhood, Clover is very keen on going out and learning new things, and while he might call Ichirou and the like "nerds" he tends to actually listen to his ramblings closely, being genuinely interested. His social skills aren't the best, and Clover gets easily flustered when he's not sure what to do or how to act in a situation.
Fun Facts
His biological parents were french, and he still tends to curse in french the most or when he's grumbling about something all pouty.
Clover's style tends to lean towards punk and urban/sporty vibes, and he loves wearing a lot of green and black
His favorite patterns in clothing tend to be spiky vines, clover shapes and chessboard patterns. Or dragons, as dragons remind him of the person who rescued him, Angus.
His mother still sometimes tries to contact him, though indirectly as she's aware she could get killed approaching him directly. Clover doesn't really want her to do this and tries to ignore any messages she sends.
Clover was initially wary of women due to the only woman he was exposed to being his neglectful mother, but overtime he gained more positive experiences, such as through Franziska, later his friend's youthful grandmother Yui, and plenty of others.
he met Henrik by accidentally teleporting himself into the human world, and not knowing how to get back. He stayed with Henrik for a few days, until Angus found him. Angus agreed to let him continue visiting Henrik upon seeing how much the boy liked him, as long as he let them know if he did.
Clover swears like a sailor, though he tries not to do it around Ichirou and his family. If he does slip, he tends to immediately apologize for it.
He speaks four languages total, having learned through his new friends and family; French, english, german, and Japanese. (he's least fluent in the latter, but still understands it well enough)
Clover tends to look up to scary, powerful figures who still show incredible gentleness and kindness. Such as his foster parent Angus, Ichirou's father Jurou, and a wyvern Sebastian Kravchenko he meets through Angus' clinic, being a frequent patient there.
He would never admit it, but he actually really enjoys Quinn's music (Quinn is a bakeneko and a popular singer in their world that Ichirou is a fan of)
His patchy skintone is a result of his unusual and volatile magic combo, the dark patches representing the forest magic, and the pale parts representing the blood magic.
Due to his deformity, he can't eat a whole lot in a day - he will throw up if he tries - which puts him at risk of starving a lot. To combat this, Angus uses a special type of ambrosia to mix in his food that includes more than enough nutrients to make sure he's fed properly even with tiny portions. (This food would be bad for humans as it'd give them an overdose of several minerals and vitamins)
He gets cold easily as well due to his condition, which is also why he loves wearing oversized clothing; keeps him warm.
Despite his food issues and deformation, Clover is still physically fairly strong thanks to his blood magic, and can easily throw around guys twice his size with his vines. People often underestimate his strength due to how he looks.

Proper ref for Spider family grandpa. He's not really a full on goth like his son, IDK what to call his style tbh lmao. His weirdly colored hand relates to a curse he has btw
I'll do Yui sometime later, RN I have no ideas for her.
.......IDK if he looks much older than Jurou tbh. he does have more lines on his face, but I'm still bad at drawing older looking people OTL (TBF, as a Soul eater, he's not gonna age like humans anyway, but still)
bio below:
Name: Harrow Araknos
Nicknames: Grandpa Harrow/Grandpa/Gramps (his grandkids), Father No/Dad no/goddammit dad (Jurou) Love/my rebel (Yui) Dad/Captain (Late meredith) That Weird Old Guy/Enigma/Guardian Angel/Steel Gramps/Mirror Dude (Various people he's helped in human realm)
Age: around 230, he'd be the equal of someone in their 70ties as a human (though he'd be a very fit grandpa/his kind when translated to human ages would still regularly live past 100)
Height: 190 cm
Occupation: Former Overshadower Council member, now a fugitive of the law
Family: wife Yui (A spiderwoman spirit/popular jazz singer) son Jurou (A tattoo artist/protagonist of this story) late daughter Meredith, grandson Ichirou, adoptive grandson Caelan, granddaughter Hitomi.
Friends: His manor staff Thalia, Mihail, Scarlet, and Aiden.
Love interest: Wife Yui
Abilities:
Soul Devouring: As a soul eater, he can devour the souls of anything that has one. He's also naturally very resistant to possession as a Soul eater, and can devour any soul trying to do so.
Inhuman body: He is incredibly durable and can basically only be damaged by light magic based weapons and attacks. He's also physically strong, able to tear people to pieces with his bare hands if he wants to, even now despite his age.
Shadow Magic: Since he is specifically a "Sorcerer" type soul eater, instead of transforming into a more powerful form, he has a full grasp of shadow element magic and is able to manipulate it at will in any way he likes, from changing its shape and composition from solid, to liquid, to gas. He can also use it to traverse/phase through walls and hide from people.
Soul Link: Like most Soul eaters, he can create mental links with people he trusts, and sense if they are in trouble. Soul eaters do this automatically with family, unless the said family didn't grow up with them; he had to establish Soul Links retroactively with Hitomi and Caelan for example.
Summoning Stone: Like most soul eaters, he creates "summoning stones" naturally, that appear in random places in human realm. He has no control over this process, apart from occasionally willing for one to appear in a specific place.
Demon knowledge: He is very familiar with demonic magic of all sorts and knows how to utilize or counter it.
Curse of Shadow: Harrow had a curse placed on him during the conflict, which was meant to essentially take him over and turn him against his own kind via madness of sorts. He however was too mentally resilient for that, so instead he's able to control the curse's powers to an extent; he's basically able to transform into a shadow (solid/liquid-like/seemingly normal one) and change his size and shape however he wants, essentially granting him the transformation ability he normally doesn't have. This comes with a great risk however.
Weaknesses:
Since he is not Spirit type like his children, Harrow doesn't naturally have a demonic form and is generally seen as a "weaker" Soul eater type; this means he's even more vulnerable to light magic than his son, where it can completely cripple his powers and seal them away.
What shapeshifting he CAN do comes from his curse, which mainly manifests as his blackened right hand in passive state. While the power is helpful, if he uses it too much he risks losing control of it, being unable to return back to his more physical, normal form. He could end up literally evaporating himself into nothing but a shadow.
He's impulsive and doesn't always consider what others might think of his choices/what the full consequences may be, even if he always means well. This has resulted in strained relationship with his son, difficulty meeting his grand-kids, and missing his beloved daughter's death. Given he's already lost one family, he really hates being apart from them, but doesn't want to go back to prison, or put them at risk for secretly hiding him from the law.
Personality:
Harrow is quite eccentric character who prefers doing things his way, and isn't afraid to speak his mind. He's always been somebody who wants to have influence in a larger scale to be able to aid those weaker than him, given what he went through as a child.
While intelligent, his impulsive nature sometimes prevents him from fully thinking things through, and while Harrow has +20 charisma and charm, it doesn't always save him from getting into trouble. He does also have the "goofy eccentric grandpa" vibe to him, which also can help him deal with sticky situations, or just make his grand-kids laugh or in Hitomi's case, feel more confident and comfortable.
He's willing to do ANYTHING to protect his family, even things his family may not agree with/wouldn't necessarily want him doing, like murder. He's kind of a stubborn man and doesn't always listen to those he really should, although he is willing to admit if he fucks up, and apologize. He tends to not regret his actions though, only if the said actions hurt someone he cares for.
BG Story Summary
When Harrow was a child, there was a growing conflict between Soul Eaters and Demons on the isle his family lived in, eventually turning into a full blown conflict/civil war of sorts. Eventually the conflict was resolved by the Overshadowers council from Chrysalis city, but it was mostly too late for his family, as all of them had perished in the battle.
Harrow hadn't even reached his maturity age yet, where his aging would slow at the time, so he was put under the watch of the Council given S.E powers tended to be unpredictable at this stage. He did eventually get access to his late family's belongings once he became a proper adult, but did not want to move back to the isle where his trauma and horrors originated from.
Instead, he used his family's wealth to buy himself a humbler home within Chrysalis, though he spend little time there initially, preferring to travel around the human realm, wanting to understand why beings that were all essentially the same still fought each other needlessly, similarly to how demons and Soul Eaters were distant cousins.
He met Yui during his travels, and helped her save her villagers from a natural disaster. Her former home was destroyed by it though, so Harrow asked if she'd like to come stay in his realm until they could find her a new lake to reside in, which was admittedly difficult given the turbulent time the human world was in at the time (world wars). She ended up falling in love - both with him and a music type from human world that was becoming popular among the Mirror world citizens, Jazz - and decided to stay with him.
Due to the knowledge he'd gained from his travels, and his general power and family's past influence, Harrow was eventually asked to join the Overshadowers Council. He was hesitant at first, but accepted figuring he could perhaps have more influence through it.
During his time there, he didn't have much time for his kids, something he's rather mournful about even today, but did his best to spend time with both anytime he could, being especially close with his daughter Meredith.
Things would change soon however, as he realizes that his son was born with an ancient, forbidden power, and what's more, the Council knew it too, and some members were planning on kidnapping his child and trying to erase his power out of fear towards the ability. Overhearing this, Harrow ends up confronting the two, the resulting fight ending with the pair's death.
He was sent in prison because of this crime, with his family not knowing why he did something so drastic until after his escape years later, as the new Council member and the leader of the infamous Shadowless, Kenzo, revealed them the truth he'd learned from Harrow shortly before his escape. Harrow did keep in contact with his son during this time via the mental link, but has been unable to return to the Mirror World physically.
During his second time travelling in the human realm, he did eventually run across his son's human lover, but chose to stay away from her to respect his son's desire to not involve her in his world, which Jurou perceived as too dangerous for her. Unknowingly to Jurou she'd had his daughter, but Harrow chose not to tell his son about it, again, to respect his son's wishes.
It is one of those incidents where he wishes he'd actually gone with his usual style of talking to the two, rather than try to make amends to his son; ironically him doing what he was asked this one time, led to a sad outcome with his granddaughter losing her mother....
Fun Facts:
He's pansexual, and he and Yui often had discussions of which celebrity/public figure/widely known human they both found attractive. Or their confusion and disdain towards human world's homophobia, which to them sounds ludicrous thing to hate someone over (its not a thing in Mirror world, there's other things to discriminate people against.....)
Soul eaters generally fall under the 2 categories, with elemental types being "Sorcerers" and beast types being "Spirits" though this can vary. Harrows birth family had a Spider Soul eater father, and Shadow soul eater mother, resulting in his elemental power with Spider motifs
During his time in human realm after his escape, Harrow has ended up parenting quite a few people, and still keeps in touch with some of them. Some know he's Not Human, others don't.
Many of the people he met was because they either accidentally or purposefully used his summoning stone to bring him there. There are few cases where this meeting was more organic though
Since he can't visit his daughter's memorial in Mirror world, he tends to pay his respects to her by visiting whatever place dedicated to mourning exists within the region he's currently in. Temple, graveyard, church, etc.
He likes to pull the "old man" act around people who don't realize how strong and fit he actually is, to get away with things or catch people off-guard. He's used this to save the humans he's currently looking after, or just used it to not have to do chores. He jokingly does this with his family too, though they don't buy it, obviously.
Kenzo is actually secretly working to try and dig out the evidence needed/convince the Council to get his sentencing pardoned, which isn't the easiest task given the severity of the crime and the fear towards the God Eater ability that Jurou has, which led to those two members getting killed by Harrow for trying to take his son and render him powerless.
His main reason of trying to understand the nature of conflict through humans is due to a lot of the aspects that lead to fighting having come from them; plenty of beings in his world either originate from humans, or regularly interact with them (without the humans knowing necessarily) so he figured perhaps it was influence from them, that even his kind fall into this behavior.
His conclusion from these travels at the time was, that humans and his kin aren't that different, and it seems to be something inherent in all living beings to be complicated, messy and overall prone to both good and bad things to varying levels.
As a child he actually used to look down on humans/beings directly born from humans (like half-bloods such as his granddaughter) somewhat, just like the rest of his family, before his travels.
Needless to say, he absolutely adores all of his grand-kids, regardless of how they became part of his family.
His hat belonged to Harrow's father, which is why it still has their family insignia, despite it not being really used by rest of his current family.
