Ultimately, the reason Cats (2019) didn’t work is that it never took itself seriously.

You may say “well, how could they possibly do that? The premise is ridiculous.”

Yes, the premise is ridiculous. But the show didn’t earn (at one point) the honor of “longest running show on Broadway” by simply being ridiculous.

People singing and dancing, dressed as cats, only works by suspension of disbelief.

You can’t suspend disbelief if the narrative isn’t trying to take itself seriously.

Will everyone enjoy the show, even when done right? No. There is, thus far, nothing everyone enjoys. We’re all different that way.

But this

Is not taking itself seriously.

They look more anatomically accurate and cost much more money to make, but that’s how they come across as less convincing.

Having the physical attributes. The exaggerated features to play off of is INVALUABLE to a Cats performer and their performance.

Cats (2019) doesn’t try too hard for feline mannerisms, but when they do, it doesn’t work. Why? Because there’s nothing actually there to play off of except imagination.

Imagination is a powerful thing, yes, but practical makeup, costumes, and effects are very useful. CGI is more beneficial when trying to create fully fictional or dangerous to film in landscapes. The ocean, an asteroid field, etc.

While humanoid cats aren’t a real thing, they have been created with practical means on stage for decades.

You can stack a cast until they reach the moon. You could have the absolutely most talented singers, dancers, and actors. It will all be meaningless if the overall production is not being taken seriously. Individual actors taking the project entirely seriously (Ian, Judi, etc.) will not make up for others (editing, effects, producers, etc.) not doing the same.

This absolutely goes for anything, with or without a ridiculous premise.

A year ago yesterday, Quantum Leap (reboot) aired its final episode. I said back then that I will never forget how important this show was and I meant it. In celebration, have this rough and rushed painting of the team (and Janis!) back together after they absolutely got both Ben and Addison back and everything is okay 😭 To every beautiful person involved in this fandom: thank you, also, for being such a lovely little community amidst the modern fandom environs.

Ok, here's the article (and video) — it talks about Slash's new movie The Breach, the song he recently did with Demi Lovato, and Slash's upcoming solo album! It's the first time he's said anything about it, so all we know so far is that it's going to feature guest singers (including Demi Lovato) like his 2010 album, and that it's mainly blues rock.

"I'm doing this record, that — well, it's done now but it's not coming out until next year — but I did this record with a bunch of different singers, sorta similar to my first solo record, but it's more blues oriented."

If it's blues-y, it kinda makes sense that this project of separate from SMKC. I'm wondering what the band situation will be like, though — Who were the studio musicians? Who will he tour with? Not to mention, is a fifth SMKC album still on the table in the future?

I'm curious to see if any of the other artists he's worked with lately might also be guests on the album. If I had to guess, I'd say this project may have been in the works for a while now, since it's tough to coordinate schedules with other artists. Maybe a pandemic project? I'm eager to learn more about it... Next year isn't so far away, right?

raymond (Ben) , Catlin (Addison) , and Georgina (Janice) adre all in there 30s (r=35 c=33 g=37) and narissa (Jenn) is a little order at 40 years old and ernie (magic/Herbert) is the oldest at a wopping 77 years old. And mason (Ian) is the youngest at 28

So mason is the youngest, then Catlin (5 year gap) then Raymond (3 year gap with Catlin) then Georgina (another 3 year gap, this time with Raymond and georgina) then narissa (with another 3 year gap!) and lastly ernie (with a big ol' 37 year gap)

That's 3, 3 year age gaps, ist that funky? /Pos
