Jess Mariano SMUT: The best friend and the boyfriend.
POV:Â Your best friend Rory always gets what she wants as the townâs golden girl. Well, you have had enough and its time you get what you want.
WARNINGS: 18+ (minors dni); cheating; rory slander; lorelai slander; p in v intercourse; dirty talk; unprotected sex; light choking - i think that is it
AUTHORâS NOTE: wasnât enough jess smut for me on here. Wanna fix that! first time writing anything so please be gentle. 2k+ words
Youâre at Lukeâs diner trying to get some work done before your exam tomorrow. The wetness inbetween your legs was proving a great distraction to the task at hand. You had to muster every ounce of concentration to listen to what Lane and Rory were saying. The three of you were finishing up your group project for school. You had all been friends for years, but recently you had found it hard to be yourself around them.
The reason for that, was standing behind the counter, serving customers with a surly look and a quippy comment if he spoke at all. Jess.
The whole town knew about him and Rory. How could they not? Starsâ Hollowsâ golden girl drew attention wherever she went. Her and Deanâs romance had been the talk of the town - the stuff of young love! And she could do no wrong. Even after she dragged Dean through hell and back with her indecisiveness before ultimately bringing him to breaking point - people still loved her.
And hey - you did too. She was your best friend. But you couldn't help but roll your eyes at the way the town fawned over her. Even though it had been happening your whole lives. Rory and her busybody, try-hard mother were the apple of the townâs eyes. And you were used to it.
But you had been surprised that Jess had fallen for it. When he arrived in town, a sullen and brooding figure, you had immediately felt drawn to him. You could sense his angst. You could feel it vibrating off of him. And lets not pretend like he wasnât a total smokeshow. He looked like a man.
If only Lorelai and Luke werenât so close. Then you might have gotten your chance. But as fate had it, and as it always seemed to, Rory got in there first. Lorelai invited Luke and Jess over for a welcome dinner, and he instantly became smitten with Roryâs mild manner. It only took a matter of months - and a breaking of one Dean Forrestorâs heart - until they became an item.
At first it was all rosy. Rory wouldnât shut up about it. But you could tell. Something wasnât quite right. Two months passed and Rory would go red every time Jess was brought up, or came to sit with your group at lunch. You asked Rory - genuinely as a friend. She would just mumble and divert the subject. Lane also pressed, but there was no budging Miss Gilmore.
It was only a month ago when you cottoned on to what the problem was. You had been wearing jeans that hugged your ass, and a top that teased just enough of your cleavage to make anyone blush. You bumped into Jess in the hallway at school. As in, physically bumped into him, as he came around the corner. He grabbed onto you out of instinct to apologise.
âOh hi Y/N. What are youâŚ.â His eyes trailed down to your chest. You didnât notice at first. You thought he was dazed by the surprise interaction.
âJust on my way to Spanish. SeĂąora Castilla is making us do a book report - Iâm doing 100 years of Solitude.â
âHmmâ he responded. âThatâs one of my favourites. Magical realism, love, scandal - â
And then you clock. His eyes are on your tits. His hand is still on you. On the small of your back.
This man is hungry. He hasnât been laid or anything of the sort in a while. Or at least since he has been with Rory. Jess wants you. You avert your gaze.
âJess. I have to go.â
He moved his hand lower, testing the waters. You donât remove it. You inhaled, trying to retain your morals. You remind yourself: Weâre in the middle of the hallway. At school. He is Roryâs boyfriend. Rory is my best friend.
You repeated these over and over to yourself like a mantra, willing yourself to move. After what seems like an eternity, he whispers in your ear: âMy car. 10 minutes,â and sauntered away.
And that was how it began. A whole month of some of the steamiest makeout sessions, hottest sex, and best orgasms of your life. Did the secrecy turn you on? Maybe. Did you feel bad for Rory? Perhaps. But were those moments with Jess worth it? Absolutely.
You had to be careful. Not just to avoid Rory and Lane. But Luke couldnât know either. If he did, he would have gone straight to Lorelai and it would have been a whole thing. It wasnât worth it. So the two of you would sneak in quickies in his car, behind Miss Pattyâs studio, in the AV room at school etc.
But Luke was out tonight. Doing something for Lorelai probably. Who knows. Jess had suggested the two of you take advantage of the situation. He had recently acquired his own room at Lukeâs, ever since his uncle had knocked a hole in the wall for him. It wasnât much, but you couldnât wait to share a bed with him, and take your sweet time worshipping his body.
âOkay Y/N, weâre off. You coming?â Asked Lane.
âNah, I have a bunch more work to do for my college application. I will see you both tomorrow?â
Rory went over to give Jess a kiss goodbye. You couldnât help but smirk as you saw him looking at you as she kissed his cheek. The two girls waved goodbye and left the cafe.
The minute they left, Jess pounced on your table. He summoned Cesar to take over his shift and close up.
âCmon babyâ he whispered, taking care not make it look obvious to the other customers what was going on.
You and Jess went up the stairs silently but quickly. The minute you reached the top flight and opened the door into the living quarters, Jess slammed the door shut and pressed you against it.
âDo you know how bad you are? Sitting right next to my girlfriend and giving me those âfuck meâ eyes all night? It was all i could do not to take you on the table right there.â
His forehead was against yours, his hands cradling your face. All you could see was him. All you could feel was him.
âSuch a good boy for restraining yourself,â you cooed, trying lure him into making the first move. Each time you were together, it still felt like new. A game of chicken. Who would break first? Fresh and dangerous, yet familiar and comforting all at once. âIt must have been so hard for youâ you said, moving your hand towards his crotch. âShow me how much you want meâ you dared.
It was too much for him. He growled and leant in to kiss you with everything he had. He was messy and sloppy with need. His teeth clashed against yours. You moaned with need. Your hands wandered to your waist, dipping under your trousers, then your panties. You started playing with your clit and panting his name back into his mouth.
You were still against the door. Jess moved his hands under your shirt, finding the valley of your chest easily as you hadnât worn a bra today.
âFuckâ he said, breaking the kiss. âYou had your tits out all day baby girl? You are such a slut, wanting everyone to notice.â
Before you could begin to formulate a reply, his mouth was on your left nipple. You sighed as he sucking with such fervour. Just as you got used to the sensation enough to say something witty to him, he bit down hard. You yelped - this was a new move from him. He obviously felt emboldened by the new setting, being in his own territory and out of a car.
Jess went to your right nipple, sucking and making the most obscene slurping noise and his hand went to your other tit. It was too much. It felt too good. You started playing with your clit with even more until he finally noticed.
âThatâs my job Y/N. Its not like you to be so selfish!â he scolded. He grabbed both your wrists and pressed himself into you, letting you feel his bulge. You whimpered at the loss of your fingers inside your wet cunt and pouted at him. He brought your fingers to your mouth.
âSuckâ he said, with a devious glint in his eyes. Like a fucking wet wipe, you did as he said. You were embarrassed at first, but didnât care. You would do anything he said at this point.
When he was satisfied you had fully cleaned your fingers, he took them out your mouth and kissed you hard and hungrily on the lips.
You saw you opportunity to the turn the tables, to take power. âJess?â You asked innocently.
âHmm?â He responded, trailing kisses down your neck.
âThe whole point of tonight is that we have a bed for once. Letâs make the most of it.â You pushed him off you and took his hand. You walked past the door to his bedroom. He stopped you and looked at you confused.
âOh Jess. I donât wanna be fucked in your single bed. I want to feel all of youâ you whispered in his ear, guiding him to Lukeâs room and king-sized bed.
His eyes widened with realisation and need. Was this a bad idea? Almost certainly. Did he care? At this point, not even wild horses could stop him from having you. He would do anything you said. And he had to admit, there was something hot about doing it somewhere he shouldnât.
You pushed Jess onto Lukeâs bed, unzipped his jeans and pulled down his boxers. His cock sprung up immediately. It was red, throbbing and angry. You couldnât help but drool. Jess saw this and smirked. He knew what he did to you. He pulled off his shirt, knowing it would drive you crazy.
You dived onto his cock, unable to wait any longer. You took all of him in his mouth, as he held your head there. His pubic hair tickled your nose. You stayed there for as long as possible, until your eyes watered. You took your head off, wiped your mouth, and then began bobbing up and down slowly.
Jess propped himself up on his elbows, watching you like a hawk. His tongue was sticking out as he concentrated his breathing to stop himself from blowing his load. His dark curls were pressed wet against his forehead as beads of sweat started to roll down his face.
You moved to his balls, gently sucking them into your mouth while your hand moved up and down on his rock hard member. He started moaning and rocked his hips into your hands, desperate for more.
You had him right where you wanted him. You removed yourself from him completely and clambered to sit on top of him. His cock was nestled in your folds. So close to where he wanted to be. So close to where you wanted him to be. But you decided the chase was more fun. You lowered yourself down, so that your tits were pressed against his chest.
You whispered âCan Rory make you feel this way, Jess? Does she drive you wild like I do? Can she make you moan like a bitch the way I can? Has she ever made your cock this hard?â You punctuated each sentence with a nip on his ear.
âFuck you,â he replied, grabbing your ass and turning you onto your back so that he was on top. He pushed himself into you and started fucking you with no mercy.
Your tits were bouncing with every thrust and you were whimpering with need every time he pulled out. You snaked your arms around his back, pulling him deeper into you. You didnât want any space between you.
âYouâre such a whore Y/N. Fucking your best friendâs boyfriend. I canât believe it turns you on so much.â
You moaned at this words, unable to deny the appeal of the whole situation.
âFuck baby, I can feel your cunt clenching around me as i say that! You are a fucking whore Y/N, squeezing me with your greedy pussy. Such a bad fucking girl.â Jess yelps, spanking your ass.
âI am a whore Jessy, your whore, only for youâ you cried, embarrassed by your pathetic display. He grinned as you used the nickname you only brought out for him when you were cock drunk beyond belief. You groaned inwardly as you couldnât believe you had given him the satisfaction of that ego boost.
You were lost completely in Jess. He moved his hand down to your core, adding a finger into your weeping pussy, and using his thumb to toy with your clit. It was bliss.
âJessy?â You called out.
âHmm?â He groaned in response.
âI want you to cum inside meâ you begged.
His eyes widened as a wild look came over him. Without missing a beat, he swung your legs over his shoulders and bent you in two as he fucked into you harder than before. His hand moved to your throat, gently choking you. You stuck your tongue out like a dog in heat - animalistic and beyond a care as to what was normal.
The bedâs headboard was hitting the wall with every thrust from Jessâ pelvis, sure to cause a suspect dent tomorrow. But neither of you could have given a single fuck as the you both chased your highs. The sound of skin slapping, moans and gasps were obscene.
âJess, have you seen Lukeâs toolbox? We need it and he said it might be - Oh my god!â
You both froze and turned to the door. Lorelai was face to face with you and Jess butt naked on Lukeâs bed. Sorry - lets rephrase that. Lorelai walked in on her daughterâs boyfriend and best friend fucking raw on Lukeâs bed.
She narrowed her eyes and hissed: âGet the fuck out.â

approaching the podium, you spot your roommates waiting in the front row, having walked before youâfaces lit up with pride. the dean hands you your degree, and you grasp it, feeling its weight, curtly waving at the camera before running off the stage to your friends.
âWE DID IT BITCH!!!!â tanakaâs hollering as bokuto envelops you in a firm hug, kiyokoâs makeup is streaming down her face, noyaâs doing cartwheels. they hand you a yearbook; you laugh at the memoryârunning your thumb over the same area and feeling.. a lump? as you peel back the edge, thereâs a light tap to your shoulder. intervened, you turn around.
âhâ iwa?â thatâs a face you havenât seen in a bit.
his focus is on his shoes, clearly nervous. his hands disappear into the pockets of his slacks. âhi.â heâs says, stiff. the best part of graduation is the suits, you thirst. whore.
âitâs nice to see yââ
âI was really pissed. not to mention how much I liked you. but thatâs no excuse for not giving you a chance to explain. so Iâm sorry.â he finally makes eye contact. âalso for interrupting you just now.â
âIâm sorry too.â you smile.
he mirrors your expression. âdonât call me iwa ever again.â
âokay.â you elbow him.
he feigns hurt, wincing dramatically. âwelcome back, champ.â
âitâs nice to be back.â
from afar, akaashi watches your exchange. heâs known her for less than a year but looks at her like itâs been a lifetime - he thinks to himself. heâs completely and utterly oblivious that he looks at you the exact same way.
haji side-hugs you a goodbye, and keiji walks up to you. in a suit. yummy. âI must've been in the injury zone last time we argued, because you left me breathless." you cringe.
âis that supposed to be a pickup line? a med student pickup line?â you gape at him in disbelief.
he just smirks, the kind that makes you wanna rip it off his pretty face. âyouâre like a sports injury: challenging at first, but with the right approach, I know we can heal together."
âquit it.â you kick his ankle playfully. âwhatâs your point?â
âI didnât mean to bother you. I just need directions and a chaperone to the nearest cat cafe, is all.â
entertaining him this time, you quip: âwhat makes you think Iâm the right person to ask?â
âit was worth a try.â he shrugs. âyou read my letter yet?â akaashi taps the corner of the yearbook clutched to your chest with his pointer finger. peeling back the paper, you find a sticky note folded up diagonally - the same color as the one he left on the table. he holds the book for you as you unstick it open.
we never had sex.
you kissed me and I let you. thatâs it.
maybe YOUâRE just ignorant and insensitive,

Actually you know what I need to rant about this: while literati is technically a good girl x bad boy dynamic it is written so incredibly well and avoids so many pitfalls and stereotypes that it makes a good girl x bad boy hater like myself (Iâm only half joking â I donât think any trope is inherently good or bad but I tend to dislike most pairings with this dynamic) fall head over heels for their story and relationship.
So much of what makes the two of them work is the contrast between how others perceive them and how they truly are. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people who understand who Rory is as a person (Lorelai, Lane, Paris, Richard and Emily to a certain degree for starters), but she's constantly met with the expectation that she just does good and is supposed to make everyone proud 24/7. Stars Hollow as a group especially are big on this, as seen f. ex. through how Taylor takes Rory's one comment about an inappropriate DVD and twists the whole thing into a censorship crusade and makes Rory its poster-child even though she wants nothing to do with it and tells him so repeatedly. But instead of hearing Rory disagree with him (like he would Lorelai and Luke) he assumes that she actually agrees with him - and why shouldn't she when she's the perfect sunshine paragon of good who would never disagree with her elders? Also her grandparents treat her as incredibly fragile and childlike, like she must be too innocent to ever do anything wrong and so whenever she does something it has to be somebody else's fault (usually Lorelai, but occasionally Jess or whoever else was present). Time and time again Rory is treated like something innocent and naive and weak â but not by Jess. He sees her as a person.
And it obviously goes the other way too. Jess is treated like shit by pretty much everyone else. Either people hate him unprovoked or very much provoked (he did do a lot of pranks in his first few weeks and while I'm a Dean-hater I'm not blind to how much Jess picked fights with him), or theyâve simply given up on him. He tells Rory himself that every authority figure he had back in New York gave up on him too, from teachers to principals to his very own mother. But Rory doesnât treat him like a lost cause, she treats him like the smart, brilliant and asshole-ish teen that he is. By having faith in him she also often holds him more accountable than others. Where f. ex. Lorelai or the other adults just roll their eyes, Rory physically drags Jess into doing his shifts at the diner. While others write him off, Rory chews Jessâ ear out for not helping Luke more and for willfully making enemies out of the Stars Hollow adults.
They don't put each other on pedestals or below each other. Jess doesnât try to make a sinner out of Rory and she doesnât try to make a saint out of him. Thereâs genuine respect between them. They expect each other to have integrity and treat others with kindness and honesty, and the rest is good old chemistry and common interests.
I particularly love how in so many of their scenes (especially pre-relationship) when they spend time alone they just get to be these goofy nerdy kids. They argue about controversial authors and dig through records shops and eat hot dogs and make fun of each other and try to make each other laugh. Itâs not just sexual chemistry as it too often is in a dynamic like this (and often uncomfortably sexual when writing teenagers - looking at you Gossip Girl), and not just well written intellectual chemistry â they have platonic chemistry too. A hell of a lot of it actually.
While I donât think ASP wrote them through a purely deconstructionist lens on the good girl x bad boy dynamic (if she did plan on writing the dynamic at all), there is something to be said about how where many around them treat them like stereotypes they treat each other like people. To so many people, Rory is a perfect small town princess, a little miss sunshine with booksmarts for days but too delicate and sweet for anything with grit and weight. To a lot of the same people and many more Jess is a pathetic brutish and maniacal lost cause, hell personified in a chainsmoking leather-wearing teenager. But to each other they are actual human beings. Kind and mean and flirtatious and scared and reckless and smart. Rory really thinks that with the right motivation and mindset Jess can be the kind who does (and at the end wrote) incredible things. Jess really believes that with a little more practice and support to step out of her comfort zone she can be the amazing journalist she wishes to be.
They donât have this stupid ÂŤweâre so bad for each other but we canât stay awayÂť thing that too many trope users rely on and donât even justify in the plot. Everyone else might think theyâre not fit for each other, but they knew they were each otherâs person from the very first day.
#where a lot of good girl x bad boy dynamics are about opposites attracting#what draws Rory and Jess towards each other is how much they resonate with each other#the books the weight of expectations and assumptions the passion for more in life#they don't look at each other and see a sexy alien world they look at each other and see themselves#me rant because me unnecessarily passionate about this#again I don't inherently hate the good girl x bad boy dynamic#there's just so many examples of doing it badly out there#like I don't even need the dynamic to be morally good I just need it to be justified in the narrative#and to not just rely on the same old âit's so bad but it feels so goodâ and relying on stereotypes over actual character writing#Rory and Jess is one of the ways this dynamic is actually done right and it's because ASP doesn't dumb them down#or take the dynamic for granted just because it's popular and bound to have an audience#literati#gilmore girls#rory gilmore#jess mariano#rory x jess#gilmore girls meta#my meta#also extra because I can't contain myself

Sunshine 5
Pairing: Cowboy Sheriff Dean x City Gal Reader
Summary: After your family cut you off, your great-aunt Laura invited you over to her ranch you often visited when you were just a child... You drive through the beautiful town until you accidentally graze a horse that just so happens to be the sheriffs...
Warnings: None
A/N: I've gotten some feedback on my writing! So this is my first attempt at trying to make it better and make it make sense for all! I really do appreciate suggestions with writing/about the book, also love hearing what you have to say about the characters.
(MIGHT REWRITE!! Depending on how I feel about it)
â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘
Y/N POV
The beautiful grassy fields, full of bright colorful flowers, and the clouds in the most beautiful blue sky ever seen. It was like it was picture-perfect almost too good to be true. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't you'd never know for sure.
Most of all though... Dean. He was a good man, you could tell by just the way he carried himself or the way he cared about others.
You've never laughed as hard or had genuine conversations as you had this afternoon with no other than the gruff cowboy. Family members never really cared or even tried to seem interested in what you had to say but when they did they were only interested in how it'd affect their precious images.
After he left though, grumbling about having to chase some dog again earning a laugh from you and a simple 'good luck' he ran off after walking me back. True gentleman I must say.
âHey, Laura do you need help with anything?â You tiredly ask desperately wanting to drown yourself in a nice hot shower.
The older woman looks up from her knitting and smiles as she shakes her head âNo thank you sweetheart, how did today go? Did he go easy on ya?â She asked as she went back to what she was doing glancing up at you a few times.
Easy? Maybe he did? He didn't seem as bossy as he usually was had they talked to him?
âYou could say that... He did teach me a lot. I appreciate you guys letting me stay hereâ You thank them probably for the one-hundredth time this week.
âThat's good. He's very good at what he does, and quit thankin' us we are family and family helps one another. Now shoo! Go relax, you are probably exhausted its getting way too hot out thereâ
You smile and nod, giving her a quick hug before running up to the room.
°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°
Drying off your hair, tossing a tank top, and your favorite soft pajama pants that most definitely would get ruined here if something were to happen.
The creaking wood floors, announce you to everyone downstairs causing Dean and a little girl to look at you... Smiling at them you wave.
âWho's this little one?â You ask but can see the resemblance between the two, was this who Lina Linda Lisa was? Whatever her name was talking about that day on the sidewalk?
âMy daughterâ His usual gruff and annoyed voice was non-existent. He sounded happier.
The big ole green-eyed little girl had the biggest smile on her face as she leaned back and forth on her plastic princess heels. She was practically a carbon copy of Dean, but as a young girl and boy was she adorable.
âHello! I'm Roryâ She stuck her tiny hand out, You gently shook her hand the same smile stuck on your face.
âNice to meet you, Rory! I'm Y/nâ
Rory quietly thought for a moment, it felt like a mini interview, and god that made you anxious.
âDo you like ponies?â she asked squinting her eyes, acting as if she was asking the most important question ever.
Dean rolled his eyes and shook his head while he had a small smile of amusement wondering how this would go.
âHm, are they magical ponies or normal ones?â
She tapped her chin, before reaching up to her father who knew the look she gave him probably way too well because right away he handed her a unicorn stuffed animal. âObviously the ones that can fly!â Aurora said in a duh tone, pointing up at you, you look around curious as to what/why she was exactly pointing for.
âAurora what did I say about pointing? It's rude.â Dean's voice echoed from the hallway, he was on his way into the kitchen.
âI like her, you date her?â She said, causing Dean to spit out his coffee and start coughing his lungs out. Your eyes widen in surprise, who would've thought a simple question about magical freakin' horses would lead to this?
âYou can't keep doin' that, sweet pea. She's my friend, and that's all.â He explained, cleaning up his mess while the little girl nodded before shrugging.
°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°
The rest of the night went well, You and Rory played for a bit while Dean cooked. Giving him credit where it's due, he's a pretty damn good cook if you must say yourself. Though half the things he does make will mostly take 30 years off your life. That donut burger was worth it though...
Bedtime came around, and Aurora fell asleep in your arms safe and sound. Following Dean up to his room after he offered plenty of times to take Rory off of your shoulders after you refused not wanting to wake the young lady.
What you hadn't noticed before when you had woken the man up this morning was the little princess bed on the other end of the bedroom full of toys and stuffed animals.
âSorry,â He whispered pushing everything off to the side neatly, grabbing a big t-shirt and gently putting it on Rory, before taking her from your arms and tucking her in.
Oddly enough this felt normal. Though it probably shouldn't have. Friends, friends are what we are and that's it.
âGood night Dean.â You say halfway out the bedroom door when he says something that caught you off guard.
âWill you have a drink with me?â He asked standing up straight and walking towards you with a tiny smile.
A drink with Dean? That actually sounds kinda nice.
âSure. Though I'm surprised you still haven't learned your lesson from last night's drunken messâ You tease, flashing off your pearly whites as he rolls his eyes guiding you downstairs out to the front porch.
He hands me a nice cold beer before plopping himself down onto the front porch stairs, looking up at the starry night sky. Even at night, this place was beautiful.
âSo, you never told me why you're here in the first place Darlin',â He said breaking the silence, putting his full attention onto you.
âRunaway bride.â You say shortly, with a tiny shrug before taking a sip of the liquid. Dean's were wide before he broke into a fit of laughter, shaking his head
âNo really why are you here?â He asked again calming himself down, the smile still on his face and his face all red from the laughing.
âRunaway bride.â You say slower this time, in all seriousness. The smile was quick to leave his face and his eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his face.
âYour fuckin' with me right? That stuff only happens on telenovelasâ Dean was leaning his head back against the railing, still in shock.
âNope.â
âY/n why do you sound so calm about this? What'd he do to have you run off to the middle of nowhere and pick up horse shit for the rest of your lifeâ Dean asked, running his fingers through his hair before finishing off his beer.
âIt was set up, arranged marriage. Didn't want to go through with it so I left plain and simple.â You get up stretching your arms grabbing the small blanket from the swinging couch, wrapping it around yourself.
âYou shock me every day. I won't have some crazy man comin' here demanding you right? I ain't gonna get in a fight for you sweetheart pretty and all but I have a kid and I'm already on thin ice.â He seriously says while never once looking away from you.
âI don't expect you to get in a fight for me and no, there should be no man coming here to fight youâ You roll your eyes, men were stupid sad thing was you did want someone to love, and protect you. But then again that only happened in fairytales, this was fair from one.
âGlad we are on the same page. But as the sheriff, I'd have to help ya out so just gimmie a callâ

talking about each of rory's boyfriends
dean: ugh. ik EVERYONE says this, but s1 dean was just like soo perfect. too good to be true. he was cute, charming, and kind. i think he was a good 1st bf for rory. besides the fact that he freaking dumped her just because she wasnt ready to say "i love you back" and didnt respect her opinion on donna reed. and theres more. s4, took advantage of her and took away her virginity (im not fully blaming him, rory made me really mad too). like dude, he was MARRIED. poor lindsay didn't deserve being treated the way she was also. she just wanted to be with her husband. and then he based their (rory and dean) little relationship on sex. LIKE HUH?? when he was drunk the night before his wedding, he was saying how rory could fix the world, he loved her, and how she was so smart. what happened to that like what.. overall, i think he was great for a while until he wasn't. he also didn't have any character development at all. jess: in case you haven't seen any of my other posts, i am 100% team jess. i could write an essay about why he was the best bf, but i wont. and im not saying he was perfect at all. like ofc not, no one is! but the little things he did were just soo cute even when they weren't together. like buying rory's basket for $90! ughhh i love that episode sm. anyways, i love the fact that they were genuinely great friends before lovers. AND LETS TALK ABOUT SEASON 6. "wHy did you drop out of yAAleE?" iconic. okok so i absolutely adore that he was being totally honest with her. he was just real. like "rory, wtf are you doing?" he got her head back in the game. omg i saw this one post that was saying how when logan bought rory that birkin bag, she thought it was nice but didnt really know how to respond, but when jess gave her a copy of his book, she was really happy. because she has something special with him. ALSO did anyone else notice how jess was the only bf she didnt have sex with?? not really too important, but just wanted to say that. in AYITL, he gave rory the idea to write a book. i feel like he was always there for her. always. as a friend, bf, ex, and then friend again. through her ups and downs, he was there. fight me all you want, they shouldve been endgame. i was a upset when he got all angry when rory didn't want to have sex with him in another person's house. ik that he was moody or wtv but still. AND THE FACT THAT HE JUST LEFT WITHOUT TELLING RORY. im not saying he shouldve stayed (well i kinda am) but i was so mad that he just left her in the dark. also totally not necessary, but here are some of my fav quotes from him. "ernest only has lovely things to say about you", "i love you", "an innocent boy like me should not be raised in an atmosphere like this! i wanna be good, life's just not letting me", "i like this shirt. it brings out my eyes", "it feels like im with rory and youre not", "wanna push me in the lake?", "22.8 miles. do you YAHOO?" i have more in the dungeon logan: 2nd fave bf. he was meh. sometimes he was an absolute jerkk but i do like how he pushed her out of her comfort zone a bit. AND how he tried the whole boyfriend-girlfriend thing because he liked her so much. and personally, when jess went to visit rory in s6 ep8, i think he had a valid reason to be upset. like he literally pulled up to richard and emily's to see rory with a random dude going out. and the first thing she said to him was "when did you get back? i thought you were coming home tomorrow?" i mean i could totally see why he thought something was going on. (but he did overdo it a little. at first it was understandable but as the night went on, he was just being plain rude). on the other hand, he was kinda boring to me. i feel like he didnt really have much of a personality besides being rory's bf. BUT I HATE HATE HATEEEEE that he was hooking up with rory and ENGAGED TO ANOTHER WOMAN in AYITL. its like dean all over again smh. tbh im glad rory didnt end up with him. BUT HES HER BABY DADDY (im pretty sure) LIKE NOOOO anyways, these are just my opinions and feel free to disagree just dont bash me please <3

Tobias understood family. Every Friday evening with his grandparents, the tension between his mom and his grandparents were placed upon full display for Rory and him to witness. It had been hard to decipher whether the relationship between them were being repaired or simply a business transaction with a battle of wills between the three while Rory and Tobias waited upon the sidelines for the victor.
Even then, the reason the dinners happened was due to Rory going to Chilton. Tobias was simply there as a plus one. A mere guest, truthfully. The relationship between himself and his grandparents were cordial at best, affection but nowhere near how they were with Rory. He felt like an outsider. Watching from the outside inward. Even at home he never felt close to his mom like she had been with Rory, a strain to their relationship which Tobias mused might have been why he silently distanced himself at times from their home and even Luke's.
"Well, people do say that twins tend to be close to one another in ways that most people don't really get," He says understandingly, with a short nod. "And Clara, Rory, your mom and my mom could end up having a girl's night."
An impish smile immediately founds its way to his face. "Why thank you! I have to make sure my reign of terror lasts while I'm at Stars Hollow, can't let those models try to run away from me when I need them." Did he sound smug? Maybe, but praise was praise. Plus getting models to listen to him made getting the sketch down much easier when they were cooperative.
"I don't know Dean," Tobias stroked his chin with mischief within his eyes. "I think you throwing a water bottle at Taylor would be pretty hilarious. Buuuut, I do like the idea of going for fries!"
"That's how Dean and I feel too. I haven't.... always been close with my family, I was gone for a few years living with my uncle, but Dean was the one that I was closest with always." There was a connection between them that most other people couldn't understand, a type of sense that he could just... feel what his brother was going through. If things were too hard, a random phone call wasn't unheard of, and don't even get them started on the times they'd switch places as kids. It had been a while since they had tried any tricks like that, but all the same. "Exactly, man. At least with Dean and Rory, she can ask Rory when mom's out of town. It makes her feel more heard, too."
Sam couldn't help the laugh that slipped out from his mouth when Tobias mentioned frightening a modal at the school, the edges of his eyes crinkling with the feeling it gave him. "At least you know you can be scary when you need to be, that's something. But now I know if I see you knee deep in a drawing session to get you something to drink and something to eat. Wouldn't want you wasting away for your art." It wasn't like Sam had much else to do, other than his own studies and work here so he could save up. Besides, he liked being able to help others, especially friends.
When Tobias' face turned pink, Sam felt his own lips pull into small, private smile, making his own picture in his head of the male in front of him. "I told you, any time, man. I'll bring a water bottle, but I hope I don't need to use it. I'd rather just toss some popcorn, listen to them all bicker, and then go for fries."

Hi friend! Super long literati rambling incoming:
Why didnt Rory get back with Jess? At Season 4, at their brief interaction, Jess literally confesses his love to her. Later Jess says that ever since he left Stars Hollow, Rory could have contacted him. And heâs right. Despite that, he swallows his pride and (in a very poorly handled manner) approaches her again. But no, she is more concerned about Dean being mad. She very clearly chooses Dean over Jess, despite Dean being a worse option due to him being married.
I get that initially she was mad at him, and believed that giving him a chance was wrong. Going back to Dean was her trying to fix that âmistakeâ. But long after all of that, she had countless chances of going back to Jess the way she did to Dean. There was all the more reason bc they only broke up due to circumstances. But its like the prospect never crosses her mind. Im not judging her or anything, im genuinely curious. Is she just not interested in him anymore? Cause we all know how whipped Jess is for her, even decades later.
okay hmm if this is about the "proposal" i'm going to have to respectfully disagree hehe. i think if they had gotten together, if rory had dropped everything and run away with him we never would've gotten the aspect of literati that makes me ship them. as a geniune rory and jess stan before a literati shipper, i think if they had gotten together at this point in the show, it would have disrupted both character arcs. you're right he approaches her in a very poor manner., and call me optimistic but i think jess never intended to ask her to run away with him. but he saw dean and sort of lost his cool.
i think this scene was pivotal for both their characters. rory had always been this very methodical and pragmatic person. we'd always seen her making pro and con lists and i think that's why she didn't pick jess again. jess mariano had hurt her last time, it was simple trial and error in her mind. it makes sense that she didn't go back to him, but i wouldn't say she isn't done with him, i don't think she'll ever be as much as i hate dean forrester, when thinking about why rory goes back to him, i see his appeal (it hurts so much to say that, i am physically gagging). he's safe, he's lorelai approved (remember what happened with the guy lorelai didn't approve), he's comfortable and he said he's done with lindsey and that his marriage is already over. it's familiar and comforting during a time when her academic identity is being questioned and that can really hurt a rory gilmore
as much as it hurts to see milo act his heart out in that scene, it's so satisfying. i've always thought that final "no" from rory is what jumpstarts the transformation we don't see that leads to season 6 blazer Jess Mariano. she indirectly puts him on track to a successful life, and when we see him again in season 6 he's so at peace and put together, he's so open to communicating. "i couldn't have done it without you" and that all can be traced back to when they didn't get together in S4. he needed to find himself before they could get together.
that's what i like about literati. their relationship transcends the realm a normal romantic relationship in my eyes. weird way to put it but they really were each other's enzymes. jess' "why did you drop out of yale" speech expedited and supported rory coming back to yale. she probably would have returned to yale but he made it happen faster. enzymes are essential to the human body we would die without them. they are each other's fiercest defenders first, lovers second.
i don't think i was ever upset during that scene. now one scene that bothers me is the paul anka scene because they're both ready, but its okay, i've got a million fix-it fics that i can read and sob. and if they didn't get together then, they got together after ayitl shhh. they're narrative arcs are too interwoven to suggest anything different. it's a full-circle moment.
okay now that i'm ranting i might as well rant about the whole teen jess didn't deserve teen rory and adult rory didn't deserve adult jess bs. i hate that argument. it goes against everything i know about love from the books. people, fictional or not, can't be deserved. more on this later, post is way too long lmao
i thought i was done with this couple apparently not lol, when am i not talking about them. gonna post without proofreading my thoughts, sorry to the beautiful mind who attempts to read this mess i love you

âPlease come home,â ⪠Tom Holland
Summary - Tom has been away filming and you have reached your breaking point.
Warning - Swearing, kind of angst but fluff
506 Words
"Hi Baby." you quivered into the phone trying your best to not sound upset.
"Hey Darling," Tom softly said in to the phone voiced drenched in concern. "What's wrong honey?". Shit Y/N thought that's plan A out the window isn't it. Searching her brain for an excuse she nervously blurted "I was watching the Gilmore Girls and Rory and Dean broke up." Â
"TOM! Lunch is over back on set!" Yelled a voice.
"Coming Jon!" Tom yelled back "Now, honey I know you're lying, telling me what's-"
"TOM" Jon Shouted again
"I SAID IM COMING!" He yelled and brought his attention back to the phone call.
"Just go," Y/N said limply Â
"Sweetie you clearly not-" he started
"I SAID JUST GO!" You aggressively yelled. Realising what you had done you hang up your phone as guilt become your predominant emotion. What the HELL just happened Tom thought as he made his way back to set with his puzzled self. Since that phone call, Tom kept messing up his lines and was not focused at all. The words off Y/N kept replaying in his mind "I SAID JUST GO!".
A few hours later, filming was done for the day and he could finally call you to see what was really wrong. As soon as he got to his hotel room his one priority was to FaceTime you and
that's exactly what happened. "Hi love," Tom started.
"I'm so so sorry I-IÂ just- " you sobbed
"Shh love its ok, I'm here." he comforted
"NO YOU'RE NOT!" You yelled finding that anger and sadness you had earlier. "You're not..." you whispered.
"Oh sweetie, that's what wrong" he soothed
softly.
"Yes it is, now, I need you in my arms, I need your kisses, I need you now." You confessed.
"Honey I long to have you in my arms again and shower you in my kisses princess but I can't have any time off love." He replied lovingly while tears in his eyes formed this broke his heart seeing you like this and could not give you a hug and kiss you and tell you it was ok. With that you hang up as could not take it anymore. You needed him.
The next day
Y/N woke up with the feeling of heartbreak but of something else as well warmth the kind of warmth she hadn't felt in months Tom's warmth slowly turning her body around she saw something that made her heartache fade away Tom.
"BABY!" Y/N yelled excitedly and a grabbed him in for a hug. He was wearing grey sweats and no top on.
"G'morning princess," he said groggy but holding her close and a he promised showering he in kisses.
"How are you here?" She asked clinging on to him.
"I was able to pull a few strings." Her mumbled as you caressed his perfect curly brown hair.
"I love you"Â Â Y/N expressed
"I love you more" Tom said
"Not possible" you teased
How I needed this Tom thought.

Fist Date
rory gilmore x m.reader
(not my gif)
masterlist
plot: you always flirt with the Chilton perfect student Rory Gilmore, and one time, she actually gives in
requested by: @grouchycritic7794â
warnings: my writing, too much popular cultural references, FLUFF
a/n: this was actually so fun to write, I hope you like it
word count: 1,8k
You watched her as she got out of school. Chilton was on your way to work, and you didn't mind walking a little bit slower at three o'clock and crash with some private school students on their way home.
She was always there at three o'clock.
"Hey, Gilmore!" You yelled, making her raise his eyes from her book and look at you. You noticed how identifying you wasn't as pleasant as you hoped it was. "What are you reading on this fine evening?"Â
"How to punch an annoying guy in ten steps, and I'm a fast learner."
You sat down next to her, making Gilmore move a few inches away from you, not caring if you noticed.
"I'm kinda busy here, Y/N, why don't you go and talk to your fan club?" Asked Rory in a high pitched voice, pointing the groupie of girls watching you. You waved at them before focusing all your eyes on Rory Gilmore.
You first met her a few months ago when your boss made you make delivery in Stars Hollow, to a diner, and she was there. Rory was eating her book with her eyes as she drank her black coffee which had so much more coffee than water. And the fact that she didn't care for you at all made you like her so much.
One day on your way to work, you saw her. She was in front of Chilton, sitting on the bus stop with a book on her hand. And now, seeing Rory every day was part of your routine.
"So, do you like PJ Harvey?"
"Who doesn't? She's great." You smiled at her answer. "why do you care what I like, Y/N?"
"My sister gave her tickets, and you wouldn't guess who came to my mind at that moment?"Â
"Phoebe Cates?" She assumed, referring to the attractive 80s actress.
"You," you corrected her, making Rory roll her eyes. "It's just a concert. Besides, it would be cool if we get to know each other in any other place that isn't this fancy and prestigious school, don't you think?"
"Sorry, I forgot I'm too fancy and elegant for you. Why would you go out with me? I'm on the top floor of the ship, Jack." A Titanic reference. She always spoke in pop culture references.Â
"I mean that this is your territory and for you to get to know me, you need to spend time in my comfort zone."
"You make it sound like your territory has cows and chickens and you wear a cowboy hat on weekdays."
You laughed.
"The cowboy hat is only for weekends, m'lady." You made her chuckle, just a bit. "Please, do I look like a farmer boy to you, Gilmore?"
You didn't. Your leather jacket and your neck tattoos weren't usual for a country boy. Nothing of you made you look like a farmer boy.
You are a city boy, a Hartford man with no money to spent blindness. You drove your old man's motorcycle without his permission, and it was a very cliche of you to be flirting with a correct and delicate girl like you though Rory Gilmore was.
But she wasn't like all the rich girls that attended Chilton. She was not a millionaire, not a delicate girl, didn't wear make up other than a sparkly pink lipgloss and some transparent mascara. That was it. Oh, but you see a girl like that, and your instinct is to protect her. Her innocent face, and those big dove eyes that made her look so beautiful for you, didn't they?
Rory Gilmore caught your attention the minute you looked at her.
Her beauty was different. Wasn't like a model of Vogue, or some concept of pretty that the media has published. Something in her expressions and details made her look like she was a princess, those delicate factions and the innocence that brightened her eyes.Â
"Fine, Noah Calhoun, let's go and see PJ Harvey."
"Great," you said softly, kissing her cheek quickly. "I'll pick you up on Friday night. Where do you live? What's your number?"
"Chill out, J Edgar Hoover. How do I know you aren't going to Lee Harvey Oswald me when I'm not looking?"
"Have you ever talked normally and not in pop culture references?"
"Why would I do that?" She asked, writing her address on a post-it. "Here. It's in Stars Hollow. Please, don't kill me one night."
"You aren't my type of victim. I'll pick you up at seven."Â
And with that, you left Rory sitting on the bus stop.Â
-----------------------------------------------------
"What would you wear to a PJ Harvey concert in Hartford?" Asked Rory to Lorelai as she picked up her clothes and looked at them.
"A whistle, a pepper spray and a phone dialling to 911," answered her mom as she sat on the chair in Rory's room. "Do I know this guy?"
"I don't think you do, and if you did, I would have a lot of questions."
A bright moving line illuminated the curtains of the room from the outside. Lorelai looked over the window to see you getting out of your motorcycle.Â
"No!" She yelled. "A motorcycle?"
"He's here!?" Exclaimed Rory, looking over the window to you standing next to your bike. "I am not ready."
Rory was panicking. She didn't have a minimal idea of what to wear and you were already outside, waiting for her.
"Ok, uhm, wear that blue shirt because you look good in it, some black jeans and your tennis. I'll go distract James Dean over there.
"Go! Go!"
Lorelai ran towards the door, opening and giving you a sign to come in.
Boy, you didn't want to, but since she was the one letting Rory go out with you, you didn't have a chance.
"Well, hello, there. I'm Lorelai, I'm Rory's mom, come on in."
"I'm Y/N," you introduced yourself with a particular tone like you didn't care much about what she thought. "Is Rory ready?"
"She's finishing up. You know, putting on lipgloss and grabbing a Poptart, hopefully not her last supper," Lorelai whispered the last part, making you raise your eyebrows. "So, Y/N, where do you go to school?"
"In a public school at Hartford. I work too."
"What do you do? Tattoo shop?"
"Actually, food deliveries. I'm the provider of your diner, in fact."
Lorelai raised her eyebrows.
"So you know Luke?"
"I know how he looks and talks."
"I know him too! He's one of my best friends."
"He kinda hates me."
"Right."
Both of you wished that Rory would appear in any second now.
"I'm ready!" Exclaimed Rory innocently, appearing at the door with a smile. "What were you guy talking about?"
"... baseball caps," said Lorelai and you nodded. "You look great, honey, have fun. But not so much fun."Â
You opened the door for Rory, who smiled at you before stepping outside. You turned around to look at Lorelai.
"Have a nice night, Miss Gilmore."
"Take care. Drive safe!" You could hear her yell even though you closed the door. "Don't accept candy from strangers!"
You helped Rory get on the bike carefully, and she smiled at you while you put her helmet on.
"I feel like a little kid with this gigantic helmet." You laughed.
"You have a small head, Gilmore." She rolled her eyes.
"You are a total Casanova, aren't you?"
You grabbed her hands and placed them on your waist before turning on the bike.Â
"Just hold on, Bambi."
And with that, you left the driveway of the Gilmore house, driving away.
Lorelai was quick enough to run towards the phone and jump to grab it, falling to the floor as she dialled the diner's number.
"Luke's diner, this is Luke."
"My daughter just left to go to a concert in the city on a motorcycle with your provider!"
"What? Are you doing a Margot Kidder impression again?" He asked from the other side of the line, making Lorelai roll her eyes. "Who left on a motorcycle?"
"Rory! Rory left on a motorcycle with a tattooed rebel guy! They were going to a PJ Harvey concert in Hartford! Am I the only one who sees the problem here?"
"Wait, my provider... you mean Y/N Y/L/N?"Â
"So you know his name, perfect. That way we know what to tell the cops when Sylvester Stallone kidnaps my daughter!"
"Hey, chill out, he is a good kid."
"He has a black dragon tattoed on his neck. Do you know any good kid with a mythological creature that shoots fire from its mouth tattoed on their skin?"
She heard Luke sigh.
"Rory is a great kid. If she thinks he is a good guy, then he is. She wouldn't go out with a guy who she thinks is bad for her."
"Didn't she like Jess at some point?"
A silence reached the conversation until Luke spoke again.
"I'm on my way. Can't believe you let her go out with that thug, he has broken at least two eggs in his deliveries, he doesn't know how to take care of a girl. That girl has no judgement, that's why you are there!"
-------------------------------------------------
"I loved it when she sang The Mess We Are In, I really loved it," she said as you parked in front of her house.Â
You had a lot of fun at the concert, and you still couldn't believe she even accepted to go. You've known her for a while now, and she's always been ignorant to your flirting or propositions. Something must have changed beneath these days that made her change her mind.
"I had so much fun, Y/N," she told you as she started to take off your jacket, but you let her keep it.
"Looks better on you." She rolled her eyes.
"Could you be any more cliche?"
"I haven't quoted Jane Austen yet."
"Yet?"
You nodded before leaning in, kissing her lips softly as you felt her tremble to your touch.
You ran your hand through her hair, making slow movements with your head before breaking apart, giving her a last short kiss before stepping back.
"See you on Monday, Rory Gilmore." You put on your helmet, and she smiled.
"Bye, Y/N.â
You gave her a tiny smirk before turning on the engine and driving away. She looked at you go, remembering how much fun she had with you that night.
Quickly, she ran towards her house, opening the door and finding her mom and Luke sitting on the couch. Both stood up, looking at the smiley girl.
"How did it go?" Asked Lorelai, and Rory blushed.
"Perfect," she said softly, hugging her mom. "Thanks for letting me go, it was the best night ever."Â
After she said hi to Luke, she ran towards her bedroom and jump into the bed, staring at the dark night and stars with a big smile.
Lorelai looked at her friend with an emotionless expression on her face.
"I don't like that guy," she said, "at all."

Stark Spangled Forever Masterlist // Main Masterlist
âHoney!â Steve called, shutting the door behind him. âIâm home!â
He tossed his keys into the dish on the sideboard in the hallway, smiling at the photo of Lucky that sat just behind it with their old dogâs collar looped over the frame. Kicking off his shoes he stowed them in the rack before he shrugged off his jacket. It wasnât often he wore a suit to work but thereâd been a faculty meeting today with a few of the Deans present so heâd thought it was appropriate. Katie had approved a great deal that morning tooâŚ
Speaking of whichâŚ
âDoll?â he called again as he headed towards the bottom of the stairs, dropping his jacket over the bannister.
âHey Soldier!â she called back, âIâm just changing HarryâŚhe decided to tip the entire contents of his dinner down him. Guess he doesnât like sweet potatoâŚâ
âDonât blame him.â Steve yelled back âItâs disgusting.â
âOh hushâŚâ she shouted back, as he gave a chuckle.
âDADDDYYYYY!â he heard a familiar call and a door flew open upstairs, Rori bounding down the steps to greet him already dressed in her pyjamas as it was almost 7.
âHey Princess!â he smiled, catching her as she threw herself at him from 5 steps up. âDid you have a good day.â
âYeah!â she grinned âWe learnded about numbers and I did the alphabet, although one of the other girls was mean to me.â
âMean to you?â Steve looked at her âHow?â
âShe said nasty things.â Rori looked down, fiddling with his tie.
âOh babyâŚâ he said, kissing her head. âWanna tell me about it?â
âCan I have a Capsicle? I ate all my dinnerâŚâ
Steve sighed, âYou mean posicle?â
âEmmy says theyâre capsiclesâŚâ she shrugged.
Thanks Tony for that oneâŚ
Steve looked at Rori for a moment as she turned her big green eyes on him and he gave another sigh and nodded.
âWhatever, sure, come onâŚâ
Shifting so she was on his hip, he continued his way down the hall and popped his head into the den where Jamie and his friend Sebastian were sprawled on the sofa, playing a computer game. Stark was led at Jamieâs feet chewing some kind of squeaky toy, his bushy tail thumped lazily as he glanced up at Steve before resuming his eager chomping.
âHey fellas.â he smiled.
âHi Mr Rogers.â Sebastian looked at him smiling.
âHey dad.â Jamie muttered, eyes not moving from the game.
âJust gonna get Rori a popsicle, you want one?â
âNo thanks, mom said when you were home we could get pizza as itâs Friday and Seb is sleeping overâŚâ Jamie said, before he yelled âDude, you let him get awayâŚâ
âSorry JayâŚâ Seb replied, his tongue poking out from his mouth as he tapped at the controller.
Steve watched the two 9 year olds for a second before his attention turned to the TV.
âWhat are you playing?â Steve frowned, watching as something exploded on the screen.
âAvengers Alien InvasionâŚâ Jamie said, before he paused the game and looked up at his dad, grinning âBet itâs not as fun as when it actually happened for real in New YorkâŚâ
âFun isnâtâ exactly the word I wouldâŚâ Steve trailed off âHang on, did you say AvengersâŚâ
âYeah!â Sebastian nodded, âItâs a computer game from like years ago. We found it in my brotherâs room. Mrs Rogers said it would be okâŚâ
âSo, like, it has the Avengers Characters in it?â
âYup.â Jamie nodded.
Steve frowned further, before he grinned and looked at his son. âSo which one are you?â
âIron Man.â Jamie shot back
âSeriously?â Steve looked at him, his voice indignant.
âNo offence, but in the game Uncle Neeâs powers are awesome.â
âIâm Captain America Mr RogersâŚ.â Sebastian smiled at him âAfter Tony you have the most power.â
Steve stood there for a moment before he scoffed and shook his head âWhateverâŚâ
He turned to leave the room, closing the door behind him as the sounds from the TV started again. Trying not to feel too offended at the fact his own son had chosen Tony over him on a damned computer game, he headed into the kitchen setting Rori down on the counter.
He opened the freezer, dug out a blue popsicle for her (her favoured colour, unlike her traitorous older brother) and handed it to her.
âSo, wanna tell me what happened?â he asked, leaning on the breakfast bar, looking at her as she sat perched by the refrigerator opposite him.
âSo we were doing the alphabet and some wordsâŚand I knew them all. But I was good daddy, I put my hand up and I didnât shout outâŚbut Ariana called me a smart assâŚâ
Sheâs not wrong. Steve bit back the retort as he looked at his daughterâs indignant face, trying hard not to laugh at her expression. âWell thatâs not very nice.â
âNo, I told her that.â
âIâm sure you did.â Steve continued to hold his face straight.
âI told her she shouldnât say mean things to people as it can make them cry.â
âDid you cry?â
âNo.â Rori said, sucking her popsicle. âI called her an idiot instead.â
âWell you kinda lost the moral high ground there.â Steve chuckled as Rori cocked her head.
âWhatâs a moral high ground?â
âNothing, doesnât matter.â He said, straightening up as Katie walked into the room, a clean Harry on her hips.
âHeyâŚâ Steve smiled as he gave her a kiss âHey buddy!â
Harry grinned and held his arms out so Steve could take him. He kissed his cheek before he looked at Katie âHow you feeling?â
She dropped her hands to her bump and sighed âTiredâŚâ
Steve gave her a sympathetic smile, at almost 20 weeks now this pregnancy was taking its toll a lot more than the other 3 had. And he knew she was trying to be brave about it, despite how exhausted and worried she was about it all.
âOh Steve!â she let out an exasperated sigh and he looked at her, frowning, before he followed her gaze to where Rori was sat eating her popsicle.
âWhat?â he frowned.
âI told her she wasnât allowed one as she hadnât eaten her dinner!â
Steve looked at Katie, then to Rori who looked at him innocently.
âSeriously?â
Rori shrugged, absolutely no fucks given that sheâd just been completely busted after telling a big, fat lie to her dad.
âAurora!â Steve said, sternly âI donât like being lied to, you know that!â
She turned her eyes to his and looked at him âSorry.â
âNo youâre not.â Katie narrowed her eyes at her. She walked to remove the popsicle from her and Rori yelled, jerking her hand away.
âItâs mine.â
âI donât care!â Katie said sternly. âYou do not tell lies, and you do not go behind my back to your dad.â
Rori glared at her, before she held her hand out sighing as Katie took the item off her. Â Rori rolled her eyes and before Steve or Katie could stop her she hopped off the counter, the part of her that was half super-soldier making it easy as she landed with a thud on her feet.
âGo upstairs and clean your hands.â Katie looked at her. Roriâs hand fell to her hips, mimicking her motherâs stance and Steve hastily looked away, to avoid laughing at the look on her face. She was so like Katie it was untrue and for the third time in ten minutes Steve found himself thinking about his late brother-in-law, wondering how on EARTH Tony dealt with Katie when she was growing up.
âWhatever.â Rori said, and she turned with a flounce and left the room.
âHoney, I didnât know.â Steve began to protest his innocence as Katie rolled her eyes, picking up the popsicle which had started to melt down her wrist.
âYouâre such a sucker where sheâs concerned, Steven.â she said, her voice was stern but her eyes told him a different story as they shone with good humour.
âOnly because sheâs so much like her momma.â Steve winked. âI believe Iâm also a sucker where youâre concerned.â
Katie snorted before she glanced at the popsicle in her hand and shoved it in her mouth, eyeing Steve as she did so.
âPretty sure itâs me who does the sucking Soldier.â she said, her mouth making a popping noise as she pulled the ice lolly from her mouth.
At her actions Steve felt a familiar stirring in his pants.
âBehave.â He narrowed his eyes at her, as she grinned and shrugged, before she too flounced from the room calling to the boys in the den about ordering pizza.
âWomen.â Harry mumbled to his father, in a tone that sounded ridiculously like Bucky leaving Steve in absolutely no doubt where he had learned it from. Steve looked at him, before giving a snort.
âYouâre not wrong pal,â he chuckled, âyouâre not wrongâŚâ

âAlways, baby - protect you, save you- you name it and âll be there,â Harry coos with the softest of smiles, tracing with his thumb the new red lines that litter my face in places. âAlways,â he whispers, leaning forward to kiss the place under my eye where my birthmark sits, and beside it a new scar that heâs kissed more times than I could count.
I could never keep track of how many times Iâve looked at him and silently said those three words that once itched to jump off of my tongue and into his ears. The very three that sit in his eyes, just for me.
âNo matter how much it hurts, no matter how hard it gets, you gotta keep grinding. And thatâs how weâre gonna win. Weâre gonna win and anyone that gets in our way? Well, God help them.â - Dean Winchester, Supernatural
+
The phone rang with a shrill bringggggg!, yanking a sigh from my lips.
Another one.
Another sigh.
Another call.
Itâs just another normal day for me.
After sliding back on the mask that I so often wear within these walls, I at last leave my office and the phone that tends to keep ringing off the hook. Ignoring it and letting the answering machine take it this time, my heels click-clack on the dark tiled floor, a sound I had long ago become accustomed to.
Yet another sound is that of the hot coffee churning into my mug from the Keurig in the break room, and the splash of the creamer I pour in next.Â
A sound that I donât think I could ever get used to, nor would I want to become mundane, is that of the breathy giggle trickling out from my open office when I return. He doesnât see me yet, but I see him as I take a page from his book and lean in the doorway to watch him. Steam wafts across my smiling lips before the coffee meets them, my eyes fixed on the back of his tousled curls.Â
âItâs about time your meeting finished,â I announce, returning to my stride as I close the door. Setting down the hot mug on the corner of my desk, I tread over to my chair and let my arms wind around his neck from behind.Â
âYer tellinâ me,â he nearly scoffs, switching apps on his phone quickly.Â
âWhat are you being secretive about, hmm, Harry?â I tease with a peck to his satiny smooth cheek.Â
âOh, nuthinâ, I jusâ wanted tâ check tha weather. Reckon weâre in fer some sun this weekend, yet anotha thing thatâs overdue. We should go on a hike or sumthinâ Sunday, but we might need our Wellies.âÂ
âYou say that Iâm a bad liar, but you should know that so are you,â I huff against his cheek, catching a whiff of his aftershaveâs notes of cucumber and aloe vera.Â
âI dunno what yer talkinâ âbout, Becks,â he insists with a measly shrug of his shoulders, but he tries to act like I canât hear the slight snicker in his voice, or see the red appearing in his cheeks.Â
âFine, I give up . . We should get cracking on those testimonies already, seeing as now Iâm done waiting on you.âÂ
âAgreed. âm gonna go grab a cuppa, and âll meet you in me office. âKay?â Harry responds, standing to his feet, and turning around to face me. The smile falling into my cheeks is instantaneous at the mere sight of him, making me realize that I somehow missed him for the last three hours he was in his meeting. Well, I wouldnât be wrong to say that Iâm most definitely spoiled getting to work with my boyfriend for nearly every second for five days a week. My dream at last came true. âWait, I thought you were gettinâ sick oâ me earlier? âsnât that right, bug?â he poses with a perfect raise of his eyebrows, taking a step towards me.Â
âI uh, dunno what youâre talking about.âÂ
âYer a bloody terrible liar, still dunno why ya think I canât sniff âem out on you,â he smirks, clicking his tongue in disappointment as he taps my nose. The tall white roses on his baby pink slacks billow with every step of his, only worsening my giggle. âBecks, Becks, Becks,â he tuts with a shake of his growing curls. My lips sparking with a happy nervousness bring out the dimples in his cheeks.Â
âWhat, Harold?â
âDunno how many times âve told ya not tâ call me that,â he exhales with a wag of his finger, only a few steps between myself and the door now.Â
âBut Rory gets to call you that!âÂ
âHe doesnât get tâ call me anythinâ, bug. Rory doesnât listen tâ a fookinâ word I say, so heâs not goinâ tâ start callinâ me by me real name fer tha first time in eight years, I donât think,â he chuckles, and I let an eye roll slip, but not quick enough. âYa betta watch it now, and my bloody God, Rebecca Holte, you best put that pout away befoâ I-.âÂ
âBefore you what, Harry?â I tease with a cock of my head.Â
âYâknow yer pushinâ me buttons, right? Oh wait, yer fully aware oâ that, arentcha, Becks? I can see tha look on yer face right now, yâknow yer digginâ yerself a hole here, babe,â Harry tuts, continuing to wag that finger at me until my back meets the door and he lays his hands above my head to steady himself. âAnd, tâ answer yer question - reckon ya wonât get any kisses fer tha rest oâ tha day if yer gonna be a brat,â he shrugs with full composure, sliding a hand to my back that he presses on to come closer to him. âMake this one last,â he whispers, leaving a kiss on my forehead before opening the door.Â
âHarry!â I exclaim, whirling around to find him already escaping down the hallway.Â
His hearty laugh wanders down to grace my ears, and then, he turns around with that smart grin on his face, ââm jusâ grabbinâ a new cup oâ coffee, âll meet you in me office, love,â he calls back ever so innocently, almost running into one of Asherâs blokes from IT. Groaning, I imitate his typical stance of leaning against the doorway with crossed arms, watching his figure become all the smaller as he stops to talk with Amelia and then to Jennings with an always cheerful smile.Â
At times, it still boggles me how different things are, although itâs difficult to remember how things were before. How they were when my view every day was this very hallway from my measly desk sat at the end of it. It makes it all the harder to remember how much I longed for, how it tore me apart, and not just that, but how different of a person he was. I wasnât the same either - I started off cold and brash with him, as did he, and I could never entertain the thought of what things would be like if he hadnât warmed up to me, as well.Â
Memories flash in front of me as the sofa molds to my body, like all of the other times, followed by the thud of my heels falling to the floor. With a blink, Iâm propelled back to the days when Iâd be scared to set foot in this office, his. Now, I canât imagine feeling anything other than safe to be in here. Despite the traumas that took place inside of these four walls, my lips curl up at the thought of the lovely things that were born in here as well. The hidden kisses. The beginning of our friendship. Our first hug. My beginnings as a lawyer, and so much more that warms me from the inside.
My, all of the firsts that we have had.
+
Pulling my cardigan around me tighter, I round a corner and then another, hoping Iâm at least going in the right direction. The images keep flashing before my eyes - the silence that fell over the room when he entered it, a completely different person than the one that I know. A pride that I want to deny and forget still clings to my body and every thought that I have. So often, I find myself hating him, and yet I couldnât have been more proud sitting in that room and watching him do what he does best, argue.Â
Coming to a halt, I look around for a sign to tell me where Iâm going, in the hopes that the front doors are somewhere near. Shaking my head, I take another left on a whim, and regret it within a matter of moments.Â
âHolte?â comes a voice from ahead of me. Glancing up, I freeze in my place before my feet try to scurry away. âWhat tha bloody hell are you doinâ here, and where are you goinâ so fast?â they say, almost making a sound. A laugh, perhaps?
âI was just uh, meeting a friend.âÂ
âSince when do friends meet at a courthouse?â he asks with skewed eyebrows, his steps ending in front of me. His hand full of rings cards through his long curls, and my, they only look better up close.Â
âMy friend . . works here.âÂ
âOh âs that so? What department do they work in?â he continues, the dimples slowly finding their place in his cheeks, especially as the words fleet me. âYer lyinâ tâ me arentcha, Holte?â
âFine, I wanted to come and watch you argue your case, since you were making a big deal out of how important it is,â I sigh, turning around and placing my back to him.Â
âHey, you. Wait!â he calls, and I soon feel his rings against the flesh of my bicep. âWhatâs tha rush?â he titters, and when I turn around, this all only gets all the more weird.Â
âWhat, is it a crime to come and watch you in action?â
âNo, so whyâre you actinâ like yer doinâ sumthinâ yer not sâposed tâ do?â he smirks. âHuh, Holte?â
âI donât know, Mr. Styles,â I sigh, wishing I could sneak a look at his fingers gentle around my arm to prove that itâs real, but . . that would give it away and perhaps make him stop. Thatâs the last thing I want, even though two seconds ago, I thought that running into him here was the last thing I wanted. Now, Iâm not so sure. I should have known that this would happen, though. âYou were great, you know,â I say slowly, a smile mirrored on his reddening face.Â
âThank you,â he responds quietly, looking away and regrettably, letting his hand fall from my arm. âI didnât know you were there . . watchinâ me.âÂ
âI wasnât planning on it . . but Iâm glad that I came and spent my lunch break watching you.âÂ
âMe too,â he replies softly, his bottom lip escaping to between his teeth.Â
âWell, good luck and Iâll see you at work, I guess.âÂ
âYa, you too, Holte. Thanks,â Harry says, and I find it painful to walk away from him now, and awkward. Sighing, I find a hallway in each direction when I reach the corner, and take one at random.Â
âTha main entrance âs tha other direction, Holte,â Harry giggles, and I stop in my tracks, hearing his familiar Saint Laurent boots click-clack on the tiled floor. âHere, I was jusâ goinâ tâ lunch, I can show you tha way.âÂ
âNo, Iâm okay.âÂ
âNo, please. Let me,â he insists, and when I steal a glance at him heâs pushing back the dark sleeve of his smooth black blazer to look at his watch. Iâm left wondering which was more expensive, the suit or the watch. âI was jusâ poppinâ ova tâ a restaurant down tha street fer lunch, if yaâd like tâ join me, yer welcome tâ.âÂ
Gulping, I quickly look away and to the ground where he canât see my eyes threaten to pop out of my skull. Did he really just ask me to get lunch with him? What should I say? Wouldnât it be awkward? What would we even talk about? I should say no, heâs probably just being nice.Â
âI um . . â
ââll take that as a yes then,â he pipes up eagerly, accompanied by the sound of his booming steps. âHurry up, Holte, timeâs a tickin.â I reckon this âs tha only time youâve been in these walls, so âll be kind enough tâ show ya tâ tha front doors, even thoâ me car âs on tha otha side.âÂ
Because of course he would say that, Mr. Hotshot Lawyer who is cocky, annoying, frustrating, full of himself, bossy, rude-Â
âThank you,â I say, interrupting my thoughts and taking a plunge, right into those deep green eyes that land on me, and to my surprise, with a smile.Â
âWelcome, Holte.â
+
âThank you,â he says with a rose colored smile to the server, plucking the black book from the middle of the table before I could even think to grab it first. With a quiet sigh, I watch him fish out his wallet and slide a sleek credit card out from a sleeve, stuffing it into the small pocket inside the book, without even a glance inside. âWhatâs yer problem?â he huffs, chewing on the mint-flavored toothpick and pointing his eyes at me. His eyebrows do all of the talking that stops me from refusing.Â
âYou donât have to pay for me, I can pay for my own meal,â I insist firmly, touching my wallet that I had pulled out and placed next to my dwindling glass of water.Â
âI know that,â he begins with strength in his voice, and I worry that I just offended him. Iâm afraid it could erase the memorable first meal we just had together of brunch, talking about his case and actually finding out things that he likes and enjoys. âBut I would like tâ treat you, and I did invite you after all,â he finishes, smiling briefly when the server returns the book. Sliding out his credit card, he replaces it in his wallet and instead grabs a few bills that he tucks into the black book. âGoinâ tâ argue with me some moâ, are we?âÂ
âNo.âÂ
âGood choice,â Harry replies, and when he meets my eyes across the round wooden table, I think that I may see him smile at me.Â
âBut-.âÂ
âAnd what tha bloody hell dâya want now?â he grins, propping his chin on his upheld fist, his cheeks round from his smile.Â
âMaybe I wanted to pay for your meal too.âÂ
âYou can tha next time, love. Alright?â he replies softly. When he tears his eyes away to glance at his dinging phone, something stirs inside of me and I wish I could make him look at me like that again. I wish I could create another moment where it feels like he actually likes me.Â
âOn one condition.âÂ
âWhatâs that, love?â he asks with that breathy laugh of his Iâve only heard a few times now, and never has it been because of me.Â
âYou go back to calling me Becks . . no more âHolte,ââ I announce slowly and carefully, because if I said them too fast or not just right, Iâm afraid that they may break altogether and ruin it. One corner of his mouth reaches higher up his cheek, and I think that for the first time, Iâve made him smile all on my own. âI like it when you call me that.â
âI like it too, darlinâ. Reckon ya could be a good lawyer, yâknow, with that convincinâ face oâ yers, yer hard tâ say no tâ,â he answers, standing to his feet and sliding on his coat, waiting for me to do the same. Does that mean my puppy dog eyes worked on him, fucking finally?Â
âThank you, Mr. Styles.âÂ
âYer not allowed tâ call me that anymoâ then,â Harry says, looking back over his shoulder at me, a few steps ahead of me now.Â
âOkay,â I agree softly, and the breath hitches in my throat when his eyebrows raise at me with the smallest of smirks. âHarry.âÂ
âGood, I like tha sound oâ that betta.âÂ
âMe too,â I echo ever so quietly, stepping out into the fall air as he holds the door open for me, dreading the strange friendship of ours that will end in the next few moments. A friendship that I wish could live within the walls of the firm, and inside of my heart as something more.Â
+
âYa, that all sounds great. I canât wait fer this weekend . . Ya, âll ask her soon and let yâknow . . Alright, bye,â I hear from down the hall in a happy lilt. Within moments, the smile I hear in his voice appears before my eyes, and somehow only grows brighter.Â
âWhat are you smiling about? Oh, and whatâs this youâre going to ask me?â
âI neva said I had sumthinâ tâ ask you,â he shrugs with a rosiness to his round cheeks, gliding into his office with his bottom lip held between his teeth.Â
âDonât be rude.â
ââm not,â he giggles softly, stopping at his desk to grab his dark gray Macbook.Â
âYou donât have me convinced, Mr. Styles,â I sigh, letting my chin fall into my hand as I open up my Google Docs.Â
âAh, I rememba when ya used tâ call me that, âs been awhile.âÂ
âYou can say that again, and God, donât get too big of a head about it,â I huff with an ironic laugh, feeling myself pulled down memory lane regrettably. âI was just thinking about that, and how much things have changed.âÂ
âToo true,â Harry hums, getting comfy beside me on the sofa while his Macbook blankets his face in a soft glow. âYou were Holte and I was Mr. Styles or sir sumtimes. Talk âbout a bloody blast from tha past,â he tsks and I find myself nodding along with him. Glancing over to him, my eyebrows fall as my cheeks deceive me with a balmy warmth filling them.Â
âWhat are you looking at me like that for?â I wheeze, my fingers drifting to my hair nervously. After all of this time, he can still make me blush like thereâs no tomorrow.Â
âWhat, I canât admire me pretty girlfriend?â he scoffs with a shake of his head, booping my nose with his finger. Sometimes, I really still canât believe that I get to be called that by him.
âI guess you can.âÂ
âReckon ya should be nicer tâ yer boss, miss. âm tha person who signs yer checks,â he tuts while I admire the beauty of his side profile, still trying to get used to how he looks without a beard. Give him back his long hair and it would be like the beginning all over again, although Iâm not sure why I keep thinking back to then. Iâm not even positive if itâs a good or bad nostalgia.Â
âHey!âÂ
âHey!â he returns in a high pitched voice, imitating me, I suppose. His bubbly laugh soon follows and so do those olive greens that return to me, quite possibly my favourite color in all of existence. âLook at us, bug, back where it all started, arenât we?â he coos, pulling me into his side and pressing his lips to my head in a loud smooch.Â
âMmmhmm, better than ever.âÂ
âYes, we are. A new beginninâ oâ sorts, Becks. I dunno how I got so lucky with you,â he winks and thumbs at my chin, his lips only a breath away.Â
âI think Iâm the lucky one.âÂ
âNo, thatâs me,â he argues with his trademark breathy laugh, and before I get two words out, my comeback is smothered with a kiss. I really did get lucky, luckier than little old me ever thought I would, or could.Â
God, Iâm so proud of her - the old Becks. Him, too. The new us, and especially the old us. We earned this.
+
âWoman, I swear tâ bloody God if ya send me one moâ bleedinâ photo oâ a puppy âstead oâ writinâ yer brief, imma boot you outta me office and yer not allowed back.â
âHarry!â I scoff after a sound of disbelief, my eyes tearing away from the Google search and to him. His chin is held in his palm while he taps his temple with his pointer finger, eyebrows raised in a silent question at me. âYou wouldnât!â
âOh, you wanna try me, Holte?â he returns with his eyes narrowed at me, giving me a nod.
Huffing, I look away and back to my laptop, to a screen filled with photos of golden retriever puppies. âYâknow, youâll seal yer fate if ya roll those pretty eyes at me.â
âI wonât,â I grumble softly, closing out of the tab sadly.
âGood girl,â he hums, tapping the corner of my laptop from above. Looking up, his green eyes draw me over, but I donât let them pull me in. âGood girl listeninâ tâ yer boss, bug,â he finishes with a wink.Â
âDonât call me that, you know I donât like it,â I retort curtly, switching tabs to my brief where the cursor stares back at me, daring me to try my hand at it.Â
âBut âs cute, brings back good memories. I like tha name, âs yer last name. Rebecca Holte,â he teases, nosing at my cheek that grows warmer with every word he speaks.Â
âFor you it does, not me, Harry,â I almost snap, closing the laptop with a sudden clap! He clears his throat and the sound is followed by that of his velvet black Chelsea boots backing up. Spiegel im Spiegel floats from his iMac across the room, a black folder sitting in front of it with now forgotten documents.Â
ââm sorry, Becks, it wasnât tha best oâ times fer me either . . ,â Harry says softly. I wouldnât have to even look and I know that his lip is held between his teeth like a vice. At my eye level, he twirls a red gemstone ring around a finger, much like I do when something is itching at my insides annoyingly.Â
âIt was the best of times and the worst of times, somewhat minus the best part,â I mumble, picking at the Coldplay sticker already peeling from the lilac case of my laptop.Â
âHey, it wasnât all that bad when ya think oâ tha good parts, babe. Tacos at Pedroâs, stayinâ late drinkinâ wine coolers togetha, tha Halloween party, all oâ our games oâ Scrabble, takinâ you tâ that charity ball with the masquerade theme, and meeting me best friend in tha whole entire world.âÂ
âYou know how to work the floor, you know that?â I say gently, smoothing down the sticker with the back of my fingernail.Â
âLooks like we need anotha night at mine, paintinâ our nails togetha,â he pipes up, but when I remain silent, he returns to my comment that he so easily ignored. âWell yes, yer datinâ a lawyer here, bug. Thatâs how I swept you off yer feet, dontcha rememba?â
âI dunno about that,â I giggle, ever so slightly, distracted by his hands that come into view and his rings that I bother with. At last, I find those green eyes waiting for me, just as they always do.Â
âHey, why tha long face, my love?â he coos sadly, eyebrows bent beneath the weight of his words. ââm sorry tâ upset you, âm not gonna kick you outta me office, yâknow I couldnât handle you beinâ gone eitha.âÂ
âI know,â I titter softly, sliding off his silver ring dotted with little figures and placing it on my thumb where it still hangs loose.Â
âI like tha name, maybe even fer a boy one day . . Holte,â he muses happily, but I canât find any words that Iâd be willing to say. Instead, I pry the jewelry from my hand and swiftly glide it back onto his. âAlthoâ I reckon I treated you like shit when I called you that.âÂ
âJust a bit.âÂ
ââm sorry tâ drudge tha memory up like I did,â he whispers, only feeding the awkward tension waiting in the air. His lanky figure leaves its place in front of me, reminding me of the money tree sitting across me by the window, an ironic gift from Myles last month. âCan I help you with yer brief, liâl one?â Harry continues, the cushion underneath me dipping with his weight. I nod before I even feel his hand squeeze my adjacent shoulder and pull me into his side with a lasting kiss to my forehead. âLove you.âÂ
âI love you too,â I echo, tipping my head to his shoulder as he lifts the closed laptop from my lap. Laying back, he props it on his spread lap as I snuggle into his side.Â
âI like what ya have so far, I think yer inna good spot. How âbout this, next we . . . . ,â Harry says after reading the document, but with his greens back in sight and that dimple threatening to pop loose, I find it hard to listen to a word he says while staring up at him. My boyfriend. Can you believe it, Becky? âYou even listeninâ tâ me there?â
âIâm sorry, itâs just hard to when youâre so cute.âÂ
âBloody hell,â he chuckles with rosy cheeks, the dimples loud and proud at the helm of his smile. âAlright, letâs take a break from goo-goo-gaga land for a few, Ms. Holte, and work on yer brief fer yer case thatâs beinâ heard next week. Alright?â
âAlright,â I sigh with a slight pout that he sees instantaneously with a shake of his head.Â
âShall I entice you? Dunno why I should hafta, but I guess we all need a liâl bit oâ bribery eâry now and then,â he smirks, finishing his words with a wink. âMy Becks likes bribes.âÂ
âOh and what, you donât, Ha-,â the giggle flows from my lips, and is yanked in by his that silence my words. Sometimes, I really do wish that I could tell The Old Me about how good it gets, and to hold on, because it may be a bumpy ride, Old Becky, but itâs going to all pay off in the end.
+
âBloody hell, no wonder yaâve had tâ pee ten times tâday. Chill on tha caffeine, would ya?â somebody gripes from behind me, but it falls away when their arms come around my middle, soon nosing at my neck.Â
âHey, I gave into coffee long ago. It owns me by now,â I return, closing the top to the Keurig. After pressing a few buttons, the machine begins to whir and spit out the dark liquid. My neck tickles from his warm breaths behind me, and the feeling of his lips.Â
âBecks?â
âYeah, Harry?â I respond, my hands finding their way to surround his that lay clasped over my belly. The tip of his middle finger ghosts over my several inch scar, making me wonder when he had memorized it in his mind.Â
âMy mum âs cominâ tâ visit this weekend, tâ see Gemma and tha kids, and me. Sheâs cominâ over tâ mine Saturday morninâ fer brekky . . and I was uh, wonderinâ if yaâd like tâ join us? If yaâd like tâ meet me mum at last? She hasnât stopped askinâ tâ meet you fer tha last two months.â the words leave his lips in an announcement, taking away all else and no longer do I feel his hands on my stomach or hear the churning of the coffee. Turning around, his dimples live far away and so does his bottom lip thatâs trapped between his teeth, telling me that Iâm not the only one being consumed by my nervousness. âI reckon sheâs moâ excited tâ see you than she âs tâ see me,â Harry chuckles but the light on his lips sputters out when I tear my eyes away from his hopeful ones.Â
âHarry, I . . â
âWhat âs it, Becks?â he whispers. My eyes close when he noses against my cheek, his next words crawling along my neck. âYâknow sheâll love you, âssa given, babe.âÂ
âHow can she love me when she hasnât even met me?â
ââCuz yer so lovable, thatâs why,â he insists from below my ear, mouthing at the hollow that lives there. âWhyâre ya so nervous, babe? I reckon this âs a piece oâ cake compared tâ how I met yer bloody parents, in hospitals oâ all places.âÂ
âYeah, I shouldnât complain,â I respond quietly, but thatâs all that I can think of when we pull apart at the sound of a voice from behind the break room door. Clearing my throat, I turn back to my mug of coffee where the last few drops plop into the steaming liquid.Â
âPromise you itâll be okay. Thereâs nuthinâ tâ be nervous âbout, sheâs tha sweetest woman âve ever met- well, besides you that âs,â Harry says quietly, eyes wandering between our guest and me. ââs jusâ brekky and if ya like, dinner at me sistaâs that night too.âÂ
âTwo in one?â I exclaim, setting down my coffee and turning to face him where he leans against the counter. The smirk painted across his face spreads to his shoulders that he shrugs ever so smugly. âGod, Harry, bombard me much?â I sigh sarcastically with a shake of my head, turning away from him and watching how the coffee does somersaults when I pour creamer into it.Â
âWell? Ya arenât jusâ gonna leave me hanginâ there, Becks, are you?â he plods on, pulling at the cuff of my blazer impatiently while one of the blokes from IT rummages through the refrigerator.Â
âI dunno, Harry, meeting two family members in one day is a lot to ask of me,â I tut jokingly with my lips pressed into an uncertain line. The disappointment on his face melts away when I find his greens with my own again. âOf course Iâll meet your mum, but Iâm supposed to have dinner with Skye and her parents Saturday night, so I canât make it to your sisterâs, Iâm sorry. It seems to be a popular weekend for parents to come into town.âÂ
âOh, I rememba you mentioninâ that now. âm sorry, I forgot. No worries on meetinâ me sista, she lives in town yâknow, so weâll jusâ find anotha day,â he agrees in a soft voice, brushing it off expertly. âYer not gettinâ outta that one that easily, Becks,â he teases, pointing a finger at me that I push away.Â
âIf you meet Skyeâs mum, Iâll meet your sister. Sound like a deal?â
âSkyeâs mum?â he questions, crossing his arms over his chest with knotted brows. I almost giggle at the confusion swept over his face until the bulging of his muscles beneath the arms of his button up pulls me in and far away. Once again, this man really does know what heâs doing to me, even when heâs not exactly aware of it.Â
âYes,â I exhale, dragging my eyes back to my tan colored coffee. Finished with the creamer, it closes with an excited snap! âI was nervous for you to meet my mum, although I never thought itâd happen, but Iâm more about you meeting Eliza, Skyeâs mum. Sheâs more of a mum to me than mine ever was, always letting me sleep over when things got bad with mine, and Robbie too. Iâd really like for you to meet her, maybe lunch or something while sheâs in town the next few days.âÂ
His eyes are soft and light dances within them, just for me. ââCourse, bug, âd love tâ meet her. She sounds lovely, and so would lunch with her and Skye. Althoâ âm not sure how somebody who birthed Skye could be lovely,â he jokes and quickly laughs when my jaw slackens. ââm bloody jokinâ and whateva ya do, donât tell her I said that,â he chuckles, enjoying this far too much than he should be.Â
âYouâre really going to be in for it with Skye now,â I giggle with a dismissive shake of my head as I lift the mug to my lips.Â
âWhatâs new?â he asks with his hands held out in front of him, leaving my side to grab a Styles and Lawson mug from the cabinet, identical to my own. âI thought you and Rose didnât like our mugs, so why dâya keep usinâ âem, hmm?â
âI dunno, they have . . good handles.âÂ
âSureeeee, Becks,â he tuts as the K-Cup falls into the holder with a signifying pop! âSo, Saturday then?â he says nonchalantly while placing the mug under the impending stream of caffeine. He continues his trained practice of his voice dipping when the bloke gets too close to us- Brian, I think it is, I canât remember. He really does know what heâs doing, this man of mine.Â
My name on his lips rouses me from my overactive thoughts and pulls my eyes over to his and his already five oâclock shadow, distracting me from the clang! of the door closing. âWhat should I wear?â I wonder aloud with placid lips that only move to imitate the emotion yanking his towards the heavens.Â
âYouâll look gorgeous in absolutely anythinâ, bug, and âs jusâ brekky. Please, ya donât hafta worry âbout meetinâ her, sheâs so easy tâ get on with. âs like she already knows you from everythinâ âve told her âbout you over tha years.âÂ
âWow, no pressure or anything,â I exhale loudly, glad to have the room back to ourselves, and for the way his arms lull the monsters away. âDo I even want to know what youâve told her?â
âI dunno, sumthinâ along tha lines oâ how âm in love with this girl, and have been fer awhile now,â he coos into my ear, zings sent down my spine when his lips brush my earlobe. The next words stop in their tracks on my tongue and my arms stop halfway to wrapping around him.Â
âWait,â I begin lightly, taking a step back and wishing I could in this conversation. âYouâre in love with me?â I say tentatively, the front of his blazer grounding me to this moment when my fingers grab onto it.Â
âI thought that you knew . . that it went without sayinâ,â he giggles with cheeks resembling apples, both by shape and color. âI couldnât be anythinâ other than that, Becks.âÂ
âHuh,â I hum absently, admiring the threads of each white flower that climb from the sides of his slacks and all the way up to his lapels between my fingers.Â
I think I lose my grasp on them when his lips attach themselves to my forehead, and I just hope that he canât feel the racing of my pulse all the way up there. That may not be possible, but to feel the way his lips curl against my skin is, and a whisper of a laugh.Â
âReckon âs time we have a liâl argument over whoâs been in love with tha other fer longer, innit?â Harry begins before a kiss brings an end to his words, their sound whisked away by a long silence that I fear. âYa donât hafta say it back yâknow, I wonât-.âÂ
âItâs not you,â I interrupt, my fear quickly being allotted to the same emotion that wipes his face clean. âThe winner, I mean. Iâve been in love with you far longer, thatâs for sure.âÂ
âCan ya maybe not giâmme a bloody heart attack there?â he giggles, clutching at his chest.Â
âWhat, I rarely get the chance to one up you, so I have to take it!â I exclaim and my eyes grow wide when I see the look on his face. One of his signature looks. A squeal tickles the air when he lifts me off of my feet and into the air. âHarry Styles!âÂ
âWhat, Rebecca Ann?â he titters after a few spins, soon setting me down on my feet. My lips have only parted when he silences them with his, and I wonder how I went from dreaming a dream that I knew could never exist and now, getting to live it every second of every day.Â
âI think I fell in love with you when I saw you get off that lift,â I begin, looking away shyly, but he doesnât let me get away with it, lifting my chin with his finger. He may let me get away with loads of shit, but no, not this time. âThat night in Madley, at the hospital . . . but I think I had fallen in love with you a little bit loads of other times before, and not known it.âÂ
âI swear, woman, tha amount oâ times ya make me fall fer you all over âgain,â Harry wheezes with damp eyes, shaking his head with the largest contradicting smile. âCâmere, my love . . Bloody hell, I think ya win this one, âcuz I canât even rememba tha moment I fell fer you, âs been so many times fer me as well. Reckon I prolly told me mum each time they happened too.âÂ
âSaturday should be fun then,â I joke from the corner of his neck, relaxing with my exhale against him.Â
âYes, it shall. Until then, letâs get goin.ââ
âWhat, where?â I giggle, finding the glitter in his eye that I have a hard time remembering them being without.Â
ââs Tuesday, silly,â he titters with dimples shining, and face skewed into a confused question. âLetâs go get our tacos. âll even buy ya extra churros.âÂ
âThatâs the only reason Iâm going,â I joke, feeling him squeeze my hand. When I look over to him, I find those warm greens painting their happiness all over me.Â
âDonât be bloody rude,â he chuckles with a shake of his head, holding the door open for me.Â
Although this impromptu âmeeting the parentsâ gig is eating away at my nerves, I canât help but grow in excitement at the idea of meeting the very person I have to thank for him.Â
My God, I have my whole world to thank her for.

We had fallen into our own routine at work and quickly, but that was due to âpush came to shoveâ and there was no real way around it. Much to my mortification, Harry had told me that while in the hospital Myles had informed the rest of the legal team at the firm that we were dating, and so they knew. There wasnât any way around it really, trying to explain why Harry was also gone for the same length I was from work, and suddenly. Regardless, Harry and I still avoided acting like we were dating, and at times I let it get to me, dwelling over the fact that everybody knew our secret. It was fun at first to keep, but it grew out of hand swiftly. It frustrated me often and I think it did the same for Harry, refraining from hugging when a team meeting went well or we won a case. The rules of the courtroom were far stricter, but it still upset me at times.Â
Like now, seeing how Ameliaâs substitute was flirting it up with Harry, unbeknownst to him. Itâs not like I could exactly walk up to them and tell her to stop, although it bothers me how her flirting goes through one of his ears and out the other while he shows her how to do something at the front desk.Â
âFuck me,â I groan, giving up on waiting for him and going ahead with what I was doing. Blinking hard and filling my lungs with air, my opal necklace dances below my collarbones with every step.Â
I find that I have the room to myself, and as the copier beeps with each button that I press, I hum a song to myself. The documents sitting in my hands are whisked away by the large machine, a newer and larger one since my first time here. Thank God, because that thing was always having problems.Â
âI think somebodyâs got a little crush on our boss out there,â somebody snickers from the doorway. My eyes flit over to find Jennings waltzing into the copier room, his horn rims perched on his long nose. Awkwardly, I look away and answer with a soft âmmhmm.â I occupy myself with watching the machine spit out new sheets onto its bottom tray. âI hope youâre not too jealous,â he jokes with a loud laugh, but I donât echo it. Why would I? Could you bring up anything more awkward or inappropriate to say to me, Jennings?Â
âIâm fine,â I answer gently, picking up the stack after the whirring sound finishes. Stepping to the side, I tap the stack against the black counter and slide open a drawer.Â
âFigure I owe you a congrats on your Employee of the Month recognition, thatâs a rather big deal,â he continues, meandering through the wire shelves of supplies across the room from me.Â
âThank you, I appreciate it,â I return with emphasis in my voice, feeling out the lack of compassion in his. Clearing my throat, I dig around in the plastic tray set in the drawer until I grab a few large binder clips.Â
âIâve worked here for years, and havenât had the luck of getting it since they started it this year,â he remarks, shaking a box of pens that he plucked from the shelf.Â
âItâs only April, Iâm sure youâll have your chance,â I say slowly, separating my piles and tapping them against the counter until theyâre neat and tidy.Â
âI dunno about that, I havenât even made bloody partner yet here. Youâll probably make it before me, seeing as how you have an in with the boss,â Jennings nearly retorts, and I gulp hard, suddenly reminded of the iffy feeling Iâve always had about him. I canât place the blame on myself though, because heâs given me good reason for it, and I hope that he isnât about to give me more. âItâs a shame you lost your case last week though, I hope Harry wasnât too upset with you, but Iâm sure he couldnât be mad at his little girlfriend. He wouldâve been mad at Rose, or even me, but no, not you. Isnât that right?â
âI donât see how thatâs any of your business,â I begin, the papers threatened between my suddenly clammy fingers.Â
âExcuse me? Iâd say it is, I donât want you giving the firm a bad name now, but it looks like your boyfriend canât save you from everything.âÂ
âWhat are you implying?â I demand curtly, turning around swiftly just in time to watch him slip a Macbook charger into his pocket.Â
âI thought you were supposed to be a brilliant lawyer from what I hear, Becky, so Iâll leave that one up to you, wouldnât you say?â Jennings poses with a dark glint in his eye, raising one thick eyebrow at me. âOh wait, maybe Iâll give you a little help, seeing as how you couldnât even win the case of that ex-wife racking up debt in her ex-husbandâs name . . How do I say it? Well, I find it rather unfair the special treatment you receive, wouldnât you agree? No, I guess you wouldnât, would you?â he snickers, the swing and fall of his shoulders and eyebrows being more than enough for me to see.Â
Turning back around, I hastily fasten the clips onto the stacks of documents for Harryâs new case, and well, mine too, much to somebodyâs dissatisfaction. Excerpts from legal books, testimonies, and rough drafts of the argument. The tapping of a pen against the wire shelf gnaws at my ears, and accelerates the time bomb inside of me.Â
âI donât receive any special treatment, because of Harry or from him,â I mutter through gritted teeth, gathering the stacks all into one final pile. âIâd say that youâre being out of line and that you need to stop while youâre ahead.â
âOr what, youâll tell your big, bad, boss boyfriend? Nobody likes snitches, you should know that. Plus, Iâm his friend and Iâve known him longer than you, so who would he believe?â he chuckles darkly, igniting the hairs on the back of my neck with his impending footsteps. âDonât deny it, you do receive special treatment. You get out of meetings and trainings even, the firm pays for your lunch several times a week Iâm sure, you get overtime when you want it, you got a free thousand-dollar laptop again, and Iâm sure your reviews will come out just sparkling. Not to mention, still having a job after being gone all that time after your accident. Did I miss anything there, Becky?â he finishes, his snarky words slithering along my back and into my ears where his breath wafts over me.Â
ââs everythinâ alright in here?â comes a voice from out of the blue. The three-level paper organizer sat in front of me blurs as my eyes widen. The ball in my throat is met with an unsuccessful gulp when I feel a hand on my arm. I shrink away from the touch before he can squeeze it.Â
âOh yes, I was just congratulating Becky on her Employee of the Month recognition. She deserves it,â Jennings answers for us, voice boisterous with faux cheer.Â
âBecks?â Harry murmurs, cautiously touching my arm again and this time, I donât run away from his touch. âAlright?â he whispers questioningly, the gentleness of his voice wills my eyes over to him. Thereâs a pang in my gut when I watch the emotion mirrored on his face - alarmed with fear and confusion. âHey, whatâs tha matter?â he probes, the warmth of his rings seeping through the thin fabric of my long sleeved blouse.Â
âH-He . . was saying this stuff to me- awful stuff, and . . ,â I trail off quietly, my eyes flitting to the sandy brown hair I see from behind Harry, watching and listening as well.Â
âWhat tha hell did ya say tâ her, Pete?â Harry questions, turning to face his colleague as he holds my elbow firmly.Â
âNothing,â he almost laughs, and then he makes a sound as if something came to mind. âOkay, okay. I guess I upset her when I told her that I saw her nick one of the Macbook chargers the other day. I approached the subject gently, just letting her know that theyâre eighty bucks a pop, and she can only have one here at-.âÂ
âWhat, I did not! Youâre the one who just stuffed one down your pants, you liar!â I scoff, spinning to face them both. âYou did it when you were accusing me of getting special treatment from Harry!â I exclaim with my voice breaking in mid-sentence, the explanation soon growing wet.Â
âWhat?!â Harry breathes, shock coating his every syllable. âPete, what in tha bloody fuck âs tha matter with you? Becks would never steal and- wait, yer accusinâ her oâ gettinâ treated special jusâ âcuz sheâs datinâ me? Have ya fell off yer fookinâ rocker, mate? I donât treat Myles any bleedinâ different fer beinâ me best friend all me life, I treat eârybody here tha fookinâ same, if ya hadnât noticed. I reckon âs none oâ yer damn business how I mentor her, and donât forget who fookinâ hired you as well, mate, and who can fire you.âÂ
âI just dunno why Iâve been here for how many bloody years as only a senior associate, mind you, and in walks her and-.âÂ
âI donât care what yer fookinâ problem âs, Pete, but maybe I wouldâve if yaâd bloody brought it tâ me instead oâ takinâ it out on her. âm yer boss, mate, I coulda helped you, so what good was it tâ cuss her out âcuz ya feel like shit?â Harry interrupts defensively, and with a blink, I see the redness rising in their faces.Â
âHarry, please, letâs just go. Iâm fine,â I beg, taking his hand and pulling on it. He doesnât move an inch, and neither do his eyes from Jennings.Â
âI tried, if you hadnât noticed, but you were always too fucking busy for me, werenât you? âCause apparently, the only people who can get your bleeding attention as of late are those who are sucking your prick,â Jennings shrugs matter of factly. The surprise morphing my features and shaking my body is nothing compared to the shift in Harryâs demeanor.Â
âHarry,â I begin when his fingers slip from mine. âNo, donât!â I exclaim, stepping forward and grabbing onto his arm, but my fingers only grasp at air.Â
âA liâl fookinâ jealous, are we? Would ya rather it be you suckinâ me dick?â he jests at Jennings who steps closer to him.Â
âJealous of that? Fucking, hell no. I canât believe you even call her a lawyer,â Jennings retorts, pushing his glasses off his nose and into his hair. âI see now why you hired her, she must be pretty fucking good at giving head and-.âÂ
âHarry!â I almost shout, wanting to step forward and instead backing up when I watch his fist fly. A wrenched sound escapes my lips when I see it connect with Jenningsâ face, but it shrinks in comparison to the tear that splits my heart when Harryâs knocked back by Jenningsâ swing. âStop it! Now!â I nearly scream through a curtain of tears, my throat burning. Only then, does Harry lift his head of messy curls to look at me, wiping his fist against his nose that comes back red.Â
Muttered curses fall from Jennings as he leaves hastily clutching his cheek, and I remain frozen until I see the blood gush from his nose.Â
âYou idiot! What were you thinking?â I cry, rushing forward and surrounding his face with my hands.Â
âWhat was I thinkinâ? I was thinkinâ I was standinâ up fer you, I wasnât gonna let him say one moâ nasty word âbout you, Becks. I could do with a thank you, yâknow,â he sighs, eyeing the scarlet plummeting to the marbled floor with silent plops.Â
âHarry,â I sob with a dismissive shake of my head, brushing back his hair to find the shock of red skin surrounding his nose below his eye.Â
âOh, baby, âm so sorry,â he huffs, grabbing a handful of tissues from a shelf and shoving them against his nose. At last, he yanks me into his arms and there I shed my tears into his cream button down thatâs already marred by his sudden bloody nose. âI didnât mean tâ frighten you, it jusâ happened so fast . . But I donât regret it, standinâ up fer you . . I canât believe tha mouth on him . . âm so sorry he said those things tâ you, none oâ them are true, I hope yâknow.âÂ
Sniffling, I move away and find his eyes that beg for me, âDonât let what he said get tâ you fer one second, eârythinâ he said was lies, Becks. Every liâl thing, I promise you that,â he says firmly, pulling away a strand of hair that sticks to my cheek slick with tears. ââd never let sumbody hurt you like that . . never ever.âÂ
âI havenât even sucked your dick yet,â I giggle from beneath him, and then, can I start to relax when his giggle graces the air.Â
âYa, âd rather we keep that infoâ tâ ourselves, wouldnât you?â he snickers with that breathy laugh I love so dearly. âDonât need tha whole bloody firm knowinâ I havenât even gotten me dicked properly sucked yet.âÂ
âHey!â I shoot back, slapping at his chest ever so faintly.Â
ââm kiddinâ, bug. Yâknow I donât care it hasnât happened yet, eârythinâ in good time,â he insists, pulling me back against his front. I relent, but remain with my eyes pointed skywards. âI mean it, donât worry yer pretty liâl head âbout inconsequential shit like that, or what he said.âÂ
âYouâre still an idiot,â I sigh, caressing his cheek that tickles my hand with its stubble.Â
âWhy, âcuz âll have a bruised up face fer our lunch with Skye and her mum tâday, or fer brekky with mine?â he jokes with a grin half hidden by his handful of Kleenex.Â
âYes, and no. Wait- you will. Harry!â I whine, only making him laugh against my hair when he kisses the top of my head. âNo, you idiot, youâre not going to get it to stop bleeding like that. Sit down.âÂ
âYes, mâam. I always knew I had a thing fer in charge women,â he snickers with a click of his tongue, stealing a kiss from my cheek before dragging over a chair against the wall.Â
âOkay, give me the tissues. Thanks, now- No, youâll only swallow blood that way. What, are you stupid?â I instruct, leaving him one to manage the nosebleed by himself as I fold up the rest. âHere, you need to hold them against your nose and with your other hand, pinch the bridge of your nose as you look down. Do that for, I dunno, five or ten minutes until it stops bleeding. Let me go and get you some ice for that shiner of yours.âÂ
ââm fine, Becks. Really. All I want âs fer you tâ stay,â he says, grabbing hold of my hand when I turn away to leave. His expressive eyebrows near his hairline when he raises them at me in a near dare, but all I can see is the man I love and those eyelashes Iâm so jealous of. âAnd tâ apologize, even thoâ âm not even really sorry for what I did.âÂ
âApology accepted,â I concur sarcastically, stepping back to lean against the counter. âIâll let you be an idiot this one time.âÂ
âHey, donât get yer hopes up too high now,â the sound of his giggle floats away and then my eyes are lulled to our hands that he laces together with a squeeze.Â
âThank you, Harry,â I tell him sincerely, finding those greens hidden amongst his obnoxious curls.Â
âAlways, baby - protect you, save you- you name it and âll be there,â Harry coos with the softest of smiles, tracing with his thumb the new red lines that litter my face in places. âAlways,â he whispers, leaning forward to kiss the place under my eye where my birthmark sits, and beside it a new scar that heâs kissed more times than I could count.Â
I could never keep track of how many times Iâve looked at him and silently said those three words that once itched to jump off of my tongue and into his ears. The very three that sit in his eyes, just for me.
++
âYouâre sure?â she asks in between the noises that sound like bubbles trickling from her lips.Â
âYes, âm sure. Dunno how many times I hafta tell ya.âÂ
âYou know itâll never be enough,â she giggles below me, her face screwed up in absolute happiness. âHarry!â she yelps, shoving at my chest weakly.Â
âI know it wonât, yer stubborn as a bloody bull, you are,â I tsk with a click of my tongue, her body jolting with every stroke of my fingers across her ribs. Chuckling, I back up and watch how the laughs still peel off of her lips. âWhatâre you laughinâ at now, hmm? âm not even ticklinâ you anymoâ and yer still laughinâ, liâl one.âÂ
The crinkles around her eyes remain and so does the divot in her left cheek that I love almost as much as her eyes, but not quite. Speaking of, those very blues open up and land on me with a glitter to them, only to flee when the chime of the doorbell rings throughout the house. I watch how the skin of her throat is disrupted by a nervous swallow, followed by the automatic twirling of her ring around her pointer finger.Â
âComing!â I call behind me, glancing to the door and then her. The way her dark waves are splayed across the sofa cushions. The glittery opal that sits perfectly above the scoop of her maroon blouse. The pink seeping through in her cheeks that I could kiss until I taste their sweetness.
âYouâre really sure, Harry?â Becks asks softly, her eyes wandering nervously to the front door and then me.Â
âYes, âm absolutely positive sheâll love you. Now, take a deep breath and letâs go answer tha door.âÂ
A small âokayâ greets the air as her fingers fall between mine that I reassuringly squeeze. My steps come to a halt in front of the cherry oak, but Iâm not quite there. Looking up, my thoughts are confirmed when I see my arm outstretched holding onto her where she stands, much too far away.Â
âCâmere,â I laugh in a whisper, tugging on her arm until she arrives at my side. The smell of orange blossoms and vanilla flood my senses as I pull away from the forehead kiss.
++
âYou know, sheâs going to be mad, donât you?â I pose, ghosting my thumb over the concoction of purple and blue painted below his eye.Â
âHush, liâl one, I already have one mum. I donât need anotha,â he chirps with a teasing wink, twisting open the door.Â
âWhat is this Iâm going to be mad about?â a voice pipes up with a curious accusatory sound to their voice. âHarry Edward!â she exclaims, not even one foot in the door. âWhatâd you do to your beautiful face?â
âI uh, ran into a door. Yâknow, my sunglasses were really dark and-,â he begins, but much to my surprise and happiness, his mother doesnât let him get away with the terrible lie. Iâm liking her already.Â
âDonât lie to your mother, son,â she tuts with a shake of her head, lightly smacking the back of his head that he mutters an âow!â at. The oddly cold Spring day rushes in with her first steps, but my insides warm at the sigh she shares with me when our eyes meet. âI thought you were old enough to know better to avoid fist fights.âÂ
âPete started it, not me!âÂ
âI donât care who started it, youâre a grown man, Harry.âÂ
âThatâs what I tried to tell him,â I groan, watching him take her coat to hang in the closet beside the stairs.Â
âBloody hell, I see you two are gettinâ on already. Whoâs side are you on, anyways?â Harry scoffs, closing the dark cherry wood door.Â
âYes, I see we are. Itâs so wonderful to finally meet you, Becky. Iâll just blame it on me son keeping you away from me,â Harryâs mum croons, her lips painted with lipstick spreading into a cheery smile. Chuckling, I ignore Harryâs arguing âhey!â as I step forward into her outreached arms. âI think I have a bone to pick with him, youâre prettier than he ever said you were.âÂ
âSo are you,â I chortle, picking up on the geranium and amber notes of her perfume before I step away to find her cobalt blue eyes smiling at me.Â
âI do like her!â she chuckles to Harry, squeezing my opposite arm that she still holds onto.Â
âWhatâd I tell ya?â Harry pipes up, nodding at me. âTwo peas inna pod already, you lot are. Talkinâ shit âbout me and motherinâ me togetha in tha first bleedinâ minute yaâve met,â he sighs, taking down three white plates from the cabinets that he reaches easily with his height.Â
âThatâs good, I need somebody else here to mother you while âm away. I reckon it doesnât help much when youâre too stubborn to avoid boyish fist fights,â she returns, turning to me with a joking look in her eyes. Our laughs echo the others as she leads me over to the oval wooden table on the other side of the kitchen island, against the sliding patio door. âWho better than your girlfriend and colleague?â
âI guess so,â Harry groans, pulling back a chair for her to sit, soon falling into the chair across from me. âNeither oâ you even let me get tâ tha introductions, you women and yer talkin,ââ he grunts, pulling himself closer to the table. With a calming breath, he runs a hand through his hair and pushes up the sleeves of his olive green knitted jumper. âMum, this âs me girlfriend, Becky, but I like tâ call her Becks. And bug, this âs me mum, Anne. Shall we finally have that brekky togetha weâve been talkinâ âbout fer months?âÂ
âYes, letâs dig in,â Anne chuckles, a sliver of Harryâs song heard in her voice. âOooo, âs this apple bread by the famous chef Iâve heard so much about?âÂ
âYes, she doesnât disappoint, never ever,â Harry winks, licking a crumb off of his thumb after grabbing a slice of the bread. A pink sits in his cheeks that Iâm sure is mirrored in my own, and perhaps greater. I look away with a small smile, shoveling the egg bake onto my plate. âNot in tha court room, with baking, or with how good oâ job she does takinâ care oâ me,â he muses with a glint in his eye and cheeks rounder than Iâve ever seen.
I go on and listen to the stories, I even help tell some of them. Some of them make me tear up, whether it be from laughing, the wetness in Harryâs, or the love shining through in his and in hers.
+
âI told ya so.âÂ
âYeah, when donât you?â I bite back, and immediately regret it when I feel his fingers along my ribs, eliciting laughs from my lips.Â
âHey, watch it, liâl one. I have you inna compromisinâ situation here, so ya betta watch yerself,â Harry giggles, the words tickling my ear. The sounds continue from my lips and I hear them shadowed in his, and how they play off of each other while his hands keep my stomach warm. âI told ya sheâd love you, and she did. Couldnât shutup âbout you at Gemmaâs last night, âspecially tha fact you gave her a whole loaf oâ yer apple bread. You made her bloody day, âm sure. Speakinâ of, ya ready tâ meet me sista properly fer lunch tâmorrow?âÂ
âYeah, I guess,â I groan, the words whisked away with a sound that my lips, I sometimes think, hold just for him. His stubbly face is itchy against my temple, but he remedies it with soft pecks to the skin.Â
âYou guess?!â he exclaims, squeezing me around the middle. My head knocks against his, and he keeps my fingers secure between his while the smells of greasy pizza and floor cleaner lull me with their familiarity. His argument dissolves into a soft chuckle muffled against my hair where he mouths kisses.Â
âYou know who I wish you could meet?âÂ
âHmmm, whoâs that, bug?â Harry replies. Gulping, my eyes fall away from the crowds of people mingling around at the their tables, sucking the last few drops from their soda or guzzling pints. The answer flees from my lips, but after I twirl it around my finger a few times, I think he knows after he nuzzles his head against mine. âI wish I coulda meet yer gran,â too, yâknow. I wish you coulda met my granddad as well. âm sad I didnât get tâ meet yers eitha . . . Youâll have tâ come home tâ Cheshire one oâ these weekends and meet me Granâ Clara- Claire, she likes tâ go by. Sheâs a real hoot and already knows âbout you, naturally. She reminds me loads oâ Skyeâs mum- bloody hell, I see where Skye gets tha crazies from now.âÂ
âI agree with you on that one,â I titter and he nods into my neck, but the sounds fall when he spins the ring around my finger before folding my hands inside of his own.Â
In a whisper against my cheek, he whispers words that take away the breath I didnât know that I had left. ââm so bloody glad that I met you, Becks, and that weâre here . . finally. Met me mum, met Skyeâs tha other day, and meetinâ me sista tâmorrow. Harper will be delighted tâ see you, I know, and tha baby âs gettinâ bigger eâryday.âÂ
I nod and any words I had wanted to say escape me with the squeal garnered by his fingers digging into my tummy, remedied by a kiss below my ear.Â
âYou lot are fucking disgusting, yâknow that, donât you?â comes a voice with a disdainful scoff. âItâs been your turn for a good thirty seconds now, Ree. Get going, would you?!âÂ
âI know, âs great, innit? Go on, babe. Show me how tâ get a strike,â Harry teases with a loud kiss to my cheek to annoy Robbie, pushing me off of his lap where his arms wrapped around me kept us arm. Itâs drowned out by the sound of surprise I utter when he slaps my ass with his hand.Â
âMy fricken God, you two are embarrassing me,â Robbie groans, walking past me to pick up his pint from the table, and taking a seat beside his muddy Wellies. Turning around in shock, I find Harryâs greens lit with a smirk that shines on his face. âCâmon, Ree, bowl already! Youâre shit half of the time anyways, whatâs the difference now?â he jokes and a loud scoff graces the air, much to Harryâs amusement.Â
Sighing, I step up to the little contraption that wheels forward Robbieâs glittery navy blue bowling ball. I lean over to grab my electric yellow one etched with a white â7â and widen my eyes at Harryâs green â10.â Threading my fingers into the three holes, my clown like shoes step onto the polished wood, and I try to remain cool and calm. Closing my eyes, I grimace at their teasing of me from behind, but Harryâs contagious breathy laugh propels me forward.Â
âYa, thatâs me girl! Three pins down, woohoo!â he shouts loudly in a squeaky and sarcastic voice, holding up his beer in a fake cheer. Shaking my head with red cheeks, I wait for my ball to return and to try again.Â
Slowly, I realize with the ball heavy in my hands and my score falling far behind theirs on the tv above, that just like any other time, I donât care if I win or lose. This time is different, listening to how my boyfriend and my twin brother joke from behind me and laugh, their conversation quickly turning to football and then music.
Sometimes, I have a hard time believing this is a day in my life after everything, and itâs only one of the firsts.

Lead Me
Something about that GIF woowowow okÂ
This was another request and I think I have one more still to write but I got distracted today by not doing all of my homework that is due on Tuesday (thank God for Easter Monday and Catholic schools)
But here it is!
Here is the original request!
___________________________
âWeâre here today with members of Team Canada figure skating! Theyâre going to be showing our guys some of their moves to see how graceful they can actually be. Something tells me itâs not going to go well for our guys,â One of the PR people for the Flames says to one of the cameras that would be recording you. You were nervous, but this was part of being on the team, so you had to do it. You were a stereotypical figure skater, petite, timid, and quiet. But that played to your strength on the ice, which is why you made the team in the first place. Doing this thing with hockey players who are the exact opposite is what scares you.
The cameramen spread out across the ice as someone from the team staff comes to split the guys up into groups for each of you to teach. Ten guys were being split among five skaters. You got Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm. You had to teach them a routine that they could do as a pair and the best routine would win skate tying privileges for 30 games. The two of them towered over you, both nearly a foot taller than you. Both could easily crush you if they so much as tripped on you.
âOk, so, Iâm going to teach you a basic routine. You need to start in fifth position, your arms out, your head down, like this,â you say, showing them. You look up to see Elias doing what you asked, Matthew struggling to find his balance. âMatthew, let me help.â You skate over to him and adjust him so he looks like Elias.Â
His eyes meet yours. For a moment, you felt like Rory and Dean in the first episode of Gilmore Girls, when Rory drops all her stuff on the ground while leaving Stars Hallow High. âUm..â you try to find your words, âSo letâs move on to the next part.âÂ
The only words you try to say are those revolving around teaching the two boys the routine, but they kept asking you questions.
âHow did you get started with skating?â Matthew asked.
âMy family is a big hockey family, so Iâve been skating since I could walk.âÂ
âWhy figure skating over hockey?â he pries.
âLook at me?â you say, confused. You were barely over a hundred pounds; youâve had people tell you in the past that you look like you could break anytime you jump; you would actually be murdered if you even wore all the hockey gear.
âOh, trust me, I see you,â he says under his breath.
âWhat?â you say, not quite making it out.Â
Elias bursts out laughing, Matthew turning bright red, âYeah, Matthew, I donât think I heard what you said either.â He playfully pushes Matthew to the side.
âY/N, I had asked about your family,â he tries to cover and change the subject.
âI have two older brothers, who, like I said, played hockey, but I clearly did something similar but not the same.â
âThatâs like me and my siblings; Brady and I play hockey and Taryn plays field hockey. Something similar but not the same.âÂ
You start to smile, âI always wanted to play field hockey,â you admit, and you actually did. No one ever really brought it up in conversation, and you werenât someone to just spill stuff about yourself.Â
You guys had downtime anyway, the routine was done and they had run through it twice in its entirety, so you actually didnât mind the conversation. No one ever really had a conversation with you in a group setting.
âWhat about school, how did you balance school and skating?â He asks, sitting down on the ice.Â
You and Elias follow suit, plopping yourself down so you are directly facing him, Elias off to the side, looking giddy for some reason, âI went to a boarding school in America called Miss Porters in Connecticut, then did homeschool when we found out I had a shot at making the national team. What about you?â
âIâm a Catholic schoolboy,â he admits, âWhich is what makes me the man I am today.â he pretends to flip his hair, hand movements and all. All it does it shake the wild curls on top of his head.
You canât help but laugh, âSo Catholic school makes you into a man who canât do a simple figure skating routine?â you tease.
âI beg to differ.â He says, being dramatic, causing you to laugh again. You donât even notice that Elias has moved further away from the two of you. Either that, or you two moved closer together.Â
âUh, letâs just go back over what you guys are doing,â you get up as quick as you can, âYou still have half an hour, so might as well work on anything you donât know?âÂ
âHey, Y/N. Do you think you can help me with that last move? I want to see you do it with Matthew. You know, so I can see how itâs supposed to be done?â Elias says, smirking.
âSure?â The last move was trying to be a play on Jason Brownâs 2014 USA Nationalâs routine, Riverdance. The boys were free to act silly, which came easy to them anyway and do a grapevine move while holding each others hands, then turning to face the âaudienceâ and basically trying to do the highest high kicks they could do while still holding on to one another.
Matt skates up to you, taking your hands like he would Eliasâ, a chill running down your spine as soon as his hands meet yours. âIâm sorry heâs having you do this,â he says, quiet enough that Elias canât hear as him and the other guys are looking on and whispering. âIâm not normally great at talking with girls, but with you, itâs been kind of easy, right?â
You look up at him, smiling, âYeah, it has been.â You guys do the end of the routine, but he ends up tripping you. You fall flat on your butt, bursting out laughing. âOh, my God,â you say between cackles.
âY/N! Are you ok?â Matthew helps you up, but you double back over, laughing. Elias comes over to check on you, too.
âYeah, that was just so bad.â you blurt out. You tried your hardest, but there was no way these two were going to get their skates tied.Â
âItâs not my fault!â Matthew defends himself.
âYour foot was under hers when you were doing the kicks. It is a hundred percent your fault.â Elias said. âI guess you wanted her to fall for you somehow?âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âCut it out,â Matthew says. âIgnore him, he hasnât had food in two hours. He gets cranky.â Elias just shrugs and skates away from the two of you. The other guys were waiting around to start, but you notice Elias say something, pointing over to the two of you, the guys craning their necks to get a glimpse of the two of you. You donât even notice that Matthew was trying to talk to you. âY/N? Did you hear what I just said?â
âUh, no sorry, I thought they were going to give us instruction.â You lie.
âI was wondering if after this if youâre not busy, we could go grab some food somewhere?âÂ
âWait,â Your turn to meet his eyes, the sincerity and nervousness of his voice coming through on his face.Â
âIf those idiots donât scare you into saying no, then yeah.â
âYeah, I would like that.â You say, smiling, âBut I think right now, you have to go humiliate yourself.âÂ
Elias and Matthew did a horrible job with their routine; Matthew forgot to jump when they were supposed to and Elias ended up hitting him in the face. Then, Matthew tripped Elias in the same way that he had tripped you earlier, so you guess it was payback. Intentional or not, the other guys couldnât contain their laughter, just like you.Â
One of the guys on the national team came up to you, âYou taught them a routine that would have won, they just gave you idiots, didnât they?â he says, laughing.
âTheyâre all idiots, probably. But, they did about as expected.âÂ
âLooks like one of them has his eye on you, though,â he says, pointing to Matthew. The rest of the guys were watching Noah and Johnny try to do a triple axel, something that takes a few years to get down. Matthew, couldnât seem to take his eyes, off you, smiling.
You just blush and shrug. You really didnât have any words to say.
Surprisingly, Matthew and Elias ended up winning. The way they did their routine, the guys thought it was intentional that they hit each other. It wasnât intentional, but it got them their prize, so who really cares?Â
After everything was finished, Matthew found you while you were wandering trying to find him. âAre you ready to go?â
âYeah!â you say, as he takes your hand, leading you out.Â

Catch up on this series here -> No Forgetting You MasterlistÂ
Hereâs my full Masterlist if youâd like to read more!âşď¸
đˇ cred: to rightful owners
âDinner time, chickpea!â you called out from the kitchen as you finished up the final touches of the dayâs feast. This entire week was to be filled with celebrations for your little girl, finishing up on her actual birthday, which just so happened to land on the very last day of the week.
Setting down the colorful placemats and plates on the table, you smiled as you heard the unmistakable pitter patter of tiny feet running down the hallway. Turning around, you couldnât help the laughter that emerged from you at the sight of your little ray of sunshine, covered in what seemed to be paint and chalk.
âWhat did you get yourself into now?â you picked her up and placed her on the kitchen island, grabbing a wet cloth to clean off as much paint from her face as possible.
Tickled by the soft cloth, she laughed, âit wasnât my fault! Daddy started it!â
âYeah, yeah daddy always starts it. Speaking of, where did he run off to? Heâs supposed to be with you,â you dried her face with another fresh cloth and picked her up to take her to the dinner table.
âHe said to come here,â she motioned for you to lean down and whispered, âI think he went to get my present!â
You smiled at her obvious excitement, âwell now how can you be so sure youâre getting a present today? Itâs not your birthday yet, you know.â
This seemed to confuse her as her eyebrows knitted together in a manner that made her look identical to her father, âno but daddy always gives me many presents!â
âWell then, maybe youâre right,â you stood behind her and undid the messy ponytail that had been holding her hair back. Running your fingers through soft, (y/h/c) hair, you tried to fix it to avoid having strands falling into her food when she ate. Growing up to be an incredibly smart yet completely wild child, she shook her head in an attempt to stop you from tying it back.
âStop it, Rory. Unless you want hair in your food,â you warned as you struggled to put on the hair elastic. This only seemed to make her even more rebellious as she reached up with small hands to get in the way of the elastic.
âAurora Mary Winchester, stop it please,â your tone was a bit harsher this time, which she immediately picked up on along with your use of her full name. Dropping her hands, Rory whined and looked up at you with big, apple-green eyes.
âNow donât look at me like that. You know I canât resist those puppy dog eyes,â you said, dramatically looking around the room to avoid meeting her eyes.
âBut mooooom!â she whined and you sighed, giving in to her manipulative ways.
You looked down and narrowed your eyes with a small smile, âfine. Youâre lucky itâs your birthday week, otherwise I wouldnât give in.â
âYay!â Rory smiled triumphantly as you let go of her soft, unruly hair.
âThereâs my two favorite girls!â Dean walked into the kitchen, wrapped-up present in hand.
âDaddy!â Rory stood up on her chair, reaching out for him. He walked over and set the box down on the table before picking her up and swinging her in the air. The room filled with joyous laughter and the sight of Deanâs beaming smile as he looked at his daughter made your heart swell with happiness.
As he stopped swinging her, you joined at his side and he wrapped a free arm around your waist. Leaning down, he placed a soft, quick kiss on your lips which was quickly interrupted by squeaky giggles, âdaddy loves mommy.â
Dean smiled down at you, crinkles forming around his sparkling green eyes as he agreed, âdaddy does love mommy.â
It was the perfect moment, one of those where you wish someone could snap a picture of. Luckily for you, someone did. The shutter sound of a camera going off startled you. Breaking eye contact with Dean, you saw Sam standing at the entrance.
âSorry,â he made his way into the kitchen, âjust seemed like a nice picture moment.â
âUncle Sammy!â Rory yelled and immediately reached out for him. Dean handed her over and she laughed as Sam tickled her belly.
âAlright everyone, time to eat!â you clapped your hands and headed to the kitchen island where the burgers and salad youâd prepared were waiting to be served. Dean went with you to help bring the food to the table as Sam set Rory down and sat himself beside her.
âYay, burgers!â Rory cheered as you set her food in front of her, which she immediately started to wolf down.
âShe really is your daughter,â Sam chuckled as he watched her eat.
Dean beamed proudly, âdamn right. Growing girlâs gotta eat so she can be strong like her father.â
You shook your head and smiled as you sat down next to him. The rest of the dinner was full of laughter and smiles as you all enjoyed the food and dessert youâd prepared. In that moment, the Winchester family was finally together and happy.
Looking around, you committed every detail to memory for this was something you never wanted to forget.
