Facts about the Marvel movies
Anthony Hopkins Improvised The Banishment Of Thor The MCU won a major coup by landing Sir Anthony Hopkins to portray Odin, the All-Father. Combined with the Shakespearean directing of Kenneth Branagh, Hopkins turned in a memorable and commanding performance as Thor’s father, and at least some of that performance was improvised. Branagh allowed Hopkins to improvise much of the emotional banishment scene in Thor.
Three Marvel Movies Take Place In The Same Week After the massive success of Iron Man in 2008 set the Marvel Cinematic Universe off and running, Marvel Studios decided to follow it up with a sequel and two standalone films. The events of Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor overlap little on the surface, but according to Marvel canon, these stories all take place within the same week.
Chris Evans Turned Down The Role Of Captain America…Three Times! Few superhero actors better embody their character than Chris Evans does Captain America. From his looks to his voice to his earnestness, Evans has forever become the face of the Star-Spangled Avenger—a role he initially avoided. Evans turned down the opportunity to play Cap not once, not twice, but three times before finally being convinced to take the part. Evans feared being brought down by the multi-picture contract that came with the job.
Captain America’s 'List' Changes Depending On What Country It’s Being Viewed In Throughout the entirety of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, fans witness Steve Rogers adjusting to a world that aged without him. To help himself acclimate, Cap keeps a running list of things he needs to catch up on, like Nirvana, Star Wars, and the Troubleman soundtrack. However, that’s just the list that North American audiences got to see. The list appears differently in other markets, thereby making the references more relevant for fans all over the world. In the UK, Cap needs to check out Sean Connery and the 1966 World Cup Final, while in Russia he’s tasked with reviewing Yuri Gargarin and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and so on and so forth. Talk about a committed soldier.
'Wakandan' Is Actually A Real South African Language, Xhosa Chadwick Boseman, an American actor, developed a Wakandan accent for his role as the Black Panther, an accent that sounds rich, intimidating, and believable. It probably helps that he’s not making the language up completely from scratch. Other fictional universes, like that of Avatar, created entire languages for their characters to speak. Instead of going down such a tedious route, Marvel Studios decided to use the real-world language of Xhosa as a stand-in for the fictional Wakandan dialect. Xhosa is an official language of South Africa, the homeland of John Kani, the actor portraying T’Chaka, though it is not widely spoken there.
The MCU Has Its Own News Channel Marvel fleshed out the cinematic universe to become one of the most well-developed fictional realms in film history, but plenty of fans might not realize that it even has its own form of in-universe media. Marvel intermittently uploads videos to YouTube from WHIH Newsfront, a fictional news show set within the MCU. The segments star Leslie Bibb as Christine Everhart, the reporter who slept with Tony Stark in the first Iron Man film, and they cover all manner of MCU news—from coverage of the New York Incident to interviews with Scott Lang. Even in worlds of fantasy, you still need reporters to tell its story.
Gamora Didn't Know About Infinity Stones The MacGuffin in Guardians of the Galaxy is an object called the Orb which is sought after by a number of people. Gamora was meant to retrieve the Orb for Thanos but instead joined the other heroes to sell it to The Collector. However, The Collector explains that the Orb actually contains an Infinity Stone and they are all shocked by the power it possesses. However, Avengers: Infinity War proved that Gamora not only knew about the Infinity Stones beforehand, but she actually located the Soul Stone as well.
There's Only One Way To Defeat Thanos In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange uses the Time Stone to look at various alternate futures to see the outcome of their fight against Thanos. He sees that there is only one reality in which they are able to defeat the Mad Titan which is the one in which Tony Stark sacrifices himself. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness finds the members of the Illuminati explaining that they also defeated Thanos in their universe when Strange used Dark Magic. It suggests that Tony's death might have been avoidable.
here are the links that I used to find the facts that i have up on here.

Sneak Preview!
A little look at the Stark Spangled one shot for Steeby’s birthday tomorrow.
God, I miss these guys!
“I think it needs glitter.” Rori pondered as she looked at it.
“You wanna throw glitter all over that cake?” Jamie turned to her and she shrugged.
“Everything is better with glitter.” Rori nodded, “and eating it would make your poop sparkle.”
"Will there ever come a day she doesn't believe unicorns and glitter run the world?" Jamie rolled his eyes.
“She’s not wrong Jamie, it would make your poop sparkle.” Emmy grinned. “Just like when Stark ate your crayons and his went multi coloured.”
“Yeah he also ate the keys to the Camero but they didn’t make him run at a hundred miles an hour.”
"But he ended up in a cone for it," Katie pointed out as she placed the lid over the cake box and slid it to side of the counter. “That said, Rori, if you want to glitter something why don’t you make him a card?”
"Fine. How old is Daddy?"
“So old he’s lost count.” Jamie grinned.
“He’s 113 or 46. Depends if you count his frosty nap.” Katie shrugged.
"Does he even count that?" Emmy laughed.
Katie grinned, “he stopped counting a while back. I just like to remind him from time to time.”
"Where is Dad anyway? I thought we were going swimming and watching the fireworks from the pool?" Emmy wondered. “It’s almost half seven, it’ll be dark soon.”
Katie opened her mouth to say something, but she never got the chance as at that moment, there was a loud commotion from upstairs and she heard Steve’s protests and Harry’s cackling laughter.
They all glanced up over the huge open plan space to see Harry, practically bouncing down the curved staircase which swept down from the bedrooms into the middle of the living area downstairs. He was butt ass naked, bar his flotation wings, a swimming mask and a snorkel.
His little feet slapped onto the floor and he shot across the large room, out onto the patio, Steve hot on his tails.
“Harry, for christ sake!”
All of them watched as Steve pelted after his son, before they heard a splash and the noise of more giggling, along with Steve’s sigh of exasperation.
“He’s naked again!” Rori sing songed as she hopped off the chair.
Posting tomorrow!

I cannot love this more!! And this is the journey I tried to take him and Katie on through SSB. Maturing, growing up, living.
By his body’s clock, there’s been less than five years from the beginning until now, from knit top to body armor, from showgirl to warrior of legend, from Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) to Captain America (aka Steve Rogers). He’s barely thirty, which nobody seems to realize or remember. It’s just as well because sometimes he feels all of the ninety-six years the calendar gives him. Never more so than when he looks at the photos and rare scraps of video from before, when he can see how much the transition has cost him and how much of it he paid even before Bucky fell. He never meant for war to become his life, let alone the only thing he understood. And yet it has.

So? You game? If you're interested let me know. Even if it's anon. If I even get a small bit of interest I'll begin posting. Probably a chapter a week.

25 Days Of Chris-mas Masterlist / Main Masterlist / Stark Spangled Forever Masterlist
Day 14: Mike Weiss (Puncture)
Steve opened one eye, his sharp ears honing in on the noise which had awoken him.
“Shhhhh!” Jamie’s hushed voice became clearer as he walked across the landing, “Stark, shut up.” The sound of his eldest son’s low commands to his dog faded as his feet padded down the stairs and a little while later, Steve heard the back door open.
He glanced at the clock on his nightstand. It was just gone 6:00 in the morning, a good 45 minutes before alarms would be going off. He turned over, his arm stretching for Katie, curling over her waist. He snuggled into her a little, eyes closed as he kissed the side of her neck.
The back door shut, then came the jangle of Stark’s collar as the dog bounded back up the stairs, followed by Jamie’s annoyed whisper.
“You’re a pain in my ass.”
With that, the door to his room shut and Steve couldn’t help the soft chuckle that rolled from his chest.
"It's too early," Katie grumbled into her pillow, the weight of Steve's arm comforting.
“Then go back to sleep.” His arm tightened and pulled her a little further back into him.
"Mmm, nope." Katie's back stretched like a cat, moving through her entire body. Steve hummed as her backside pressed into his morning wood. She snorted, “I mean I’m going to get up and get breakfast started early. Today’s going to be carnage, and I didn’t make any lunches last night as someone distracted me in the kitchen.”
"You weren't complaining, Doll."
“I didn’t say I was, but what is it you keep telling the kids? Actions have consequences, Stevie. And now I gotta make three packed lunches, four if you want one, and I need to sort the cupcakes for Rori’s school play after party.”
"I will help with the lunches," he chuckled, playfully dipping his head to capture Katie's cheek in a kiss. But she turned her head at the right second, and Steve caught her lips instead.
“Oh, I know you will,” she chuckled and Steve snorted.
"Team work makes the dream work, sweetheart." He kissed her again, dipping his tongue over her lips and Katie responded with a hum.
“You wanna get frisky on a school morning, Soldier?”
"Yep," he whispered lowly. "We have..." his eyes flicked to the alarm clock, "thirty seven minutes."
“If you can do it in twenty, I’ll make waffles seeing as it’s everyone’s last day of term.”
A sly smirk spread over Steve's face and he closed that minimal gap between them, "I like waffles," he spoke against her lips.
“I like you.” She whispered back, her hands sliding up his back and into his hair.
"I love you," he bumped his nose to hers. His lips spread over her cheek and jaw, nipping at that joint near her ear that caused Katie to purr.
“Love you too,” she closed her eyes as Steve gently rolled so he was led over his wife, caging her in with his arms.
He softly attacked her neck, Katie preening and stretching out to give him more canvas to paint with his lips. He moved to her chest, nipping at her collarbone and taking between his teeth the thin strap to her cami, pulling it over her shoulder while his hands braced himself over her.
Her fingers gently tightened in his hair, tugging softly on the longer dark blonde strands atop his head as she arched into him. She reacted the way she always did to his touch, eagerly and happily. And Steve knew his way around her body better than any map he’d ever used.
A right hand palmed her breast and his thumb moved over her pebbled nipple, whilst his lips continued their masterpiece. Always responsive to his touch, Katie let out a gentle whimper, her face turning to the side in an attempt to muffle her noises of pleasure as his kisses and touches became more urgent.
His hand moved to her hip and then curled over her sleep shorts waistband before tugging at the material. Katie tilted her hips just so and Steve peeled the clothing over her hips and ass, to her knees where she could kick them away herself.
“Be so much easier if we could just sleep naked,” his lips kissed their way up her neck and she gave a sigh.
“Yeah, well, until your little diva princess masters the art of knocking, that’s a no go.”
As he opened his mouth to quip back, it further dawned on him, that not only did his little diva princess never knock, she had recently acquired a tendency to crawl into their bed a good ten minutes before the alarm. With another glance at the clock, he snorted.
"We're gonna need to speed this up."
Katie’s hands slid down his back, nails scratching over his flexing muscles and he groaned as her fingers slipped into the back of his sleep pants, squeezing his ass.
Her hands then moved round his thighs and she grasped his length, palm warm and strong whilst the other tugged down the plaid material, pulling his cock free. In a move that always drove him wild, she tilted her pelvis and guided him towards her with her hand gripping the base of his dick as she rubbed the head between her folds.
Steve gave a thrust, slipping into her, a low grunt vibrating in his throat. His hips moved back slowly before he pushed forward again, bottoming out. Katie gasped as he did so, that all too familiar feeling of her husband so deep and full inside her always felt like the first time.
His hands planted either side of her head, hers curled around his biceps. His thrusts became quicker, her body gently moving with each roll of his hips.
Her quiet moans spurred him on, her eyes fluttering as the passion consumed her. Steve smirked as he focused on her face, the look of love in his eyes. And then he bent down his neck, to the the shell of her ear.
"Nollaig Shona," he huskily whispered.
“Oh, fucking hell.” Katie groaned as the Irish words for Merry Christmas slipped from his mouth in a thick, Celtic brogue. His thrusts became faster, his lips locking to hers as her legs wrapped round his waist, heels digging into the flesh at the top of his ass.
She pulsed around him and Steve knew how to grab her good. More Gaelic spilled from his lips and Katie was gone when he whispered, "Mo ghrá thu,” a declaration of I love you as his mouth nipped at her neck.
“Shit, Stevie…” she gasped, her eyes flying open, mouth doing the same as her back arched and she came with a low whine, her entire body shuddering. Steve's own hips began to falter as he chased his own, a deep grind and thrust happening as he came himself.
The pair of them lay still, Steve’s face buried into the crook of Katie’s neck as she gave a soft hum, her hands smoothing up his back.
“You know, I totally get the whisper of I love you but Merry Christmas? Really?”
"Meh," he snorted into the juncture of her neck before pulling back, "got you though." He flicked his brows.
Katie gave a loud snort as the patter of feet were heard down the hall. She glanced at the door while Steve rolled off of her, his own eyes catching the clock. "Right on time," he chortled.
“We need to re-install the Sunday mornings only rule.” Katie grumbled as she hastily jumped out of bed and shot into the en-suite whilst Steve pulled up his sleep pants just as the door to their room was pushed open.
"Morning, Daddy," Rori, in all her morning glory, tiredly smiled as she set foot in the room. Her hair was a bed head mess and she clutched her blanket close.
Steve smiled at his 8 year old daughter as she clambered up onto the bed. “Morning, Princess. You sleep well?”
In the corner of his eye he watched Erica as the black and white cat sauntered into the room like she owned the place, hopping up onto the chair in the corner where she promptly started licking her paws.
"Yeah." Rori snuggled in. "Don't be late tonight, okay? I've worked really hard. It’s my first solo.”
“Why would you think I’d be late?” He chuckled as she wrapped her arms round his neck. “I’ve never missed one of your school concerts or plays yet.”
"Just saying," she said, with a look not unlike one her mother gave.
“Okay, noted.”
“Uncle Bucky said he can’t come tonight because he is busy washing his hair.”
At that Katie emerged from the en-suite with a howl, "he'll be there or he'll have to answer to me."
“And Jamie said he would rather scrape his eyes out with a spoon.” Rori sat up, her arms folding.
“Yes, but when I gave him a spoon and told him to do it, he soon changed his mind.” Katie arched her brow. Steve snorted and watched his wife as she moved towards the dresser, her bath robe covering her body as she set about finding her clothes for the day. “You just concentrate on you, okay? Everyone will be there, I promise.”
"Okay."
“Now, how does waffles grab you for breakfast?”
"Yes!" Rori hurriedly shuffled off the bed and ran out, yelling through the house that waffles were for breakfast. Agreeable yells sounded back from both Jamie and Harry, shortly followed by a loud shriek alerting them to the fact Flossie was also awake.
Steve chuckled at the chaos that was his life and smiled as he watched Katie dress once she'd closed the door behind Rori. He led back against the headboard, his hands behind his head and just drank her in. His love for her was tremendous, a never changing constant he adored.
“Steve!”
“What?” His eyes hastily flew to Katie’s face.
“I knew you weren’t listening!” She scoffed, pulling her sweater over her head. “And you wonder where Jamie gets it from.”
"I can't help that you distract me!"
“Yeah, well quit being a pervert for a second and listen, will ya?” She chuckled.
"Sorry," he cleared his throat and sat up, giving Katie his full attention.
She shook her head with a snort. “I said, can you make sure Bucky does show up? Sam has an excuse, he’s outta town, but he does not. You know what she’s like.”
"Honey, the idiot hasn't missed one yet, and as much as he likes to tease Rori about it, I doubt he’s gonna start now, he loves her. But I will stay on his ass all day." He kicked his feet from the blankets and swung them over the edge of the bed, stretching and elongating his arms as he rolled his neck. He could feel Katie's eyes on him. "Now who's the perv?"
With a pop of her shoulder, she smirked before she turned and walked to the door.
“Oh, Stevie?” She paused, glancing at him over her shoulder.
He stopped in the doorway to the en-suite and looked back at her, “yeah, Doll?”
“Nice ass.” She winked.
Steve bellowed a laugh, “it’s all yours, baby,” he quipped as he backed into the bathroom and shut the door. ***** Steve groaned as his car nudged slowly forward on the road for a meter, before the traffic once more ground to a halt.
“This is your fault,” he glared at Bucky who was lounging in the passenger seat.
"Me?" Bucky glared, "how the hell is this my fault?"
“You made me pick you up!”
"I don’t have a car.”
"You could have rode your bike, ya dick," Steve exasperated. "And I wouldn't have had to have go up town to get your ass."
"Listen, Punk...."
“Just don’t.” Steve snapped, his eyes moving to the clock on his dashboard. He gave a groan. Rori’s play was due to start in fifteen minutes and they were still a good three miles out. Of course, it would be just his luck that for whatever reason, the traffic through Brooklyn chose this evening to be at an utter stand still.
“We’re gonna miss it.” Steve closed his eyes and let his head fall forward, banging it slightly against the steering wheel. “I promised her we would be there and-“
“We got time yet.” Bucky looked at him, his voice soft as he knew just how much Steve hated disappointing his family.
“We’ve moved like two blocks in the last half hour!” Steve glared it him, “damned it, I could have walked there by- oh my God, that’s it.
And Bucky knew exactly where his forever best friend was going with his idea. He furiously shook his head "no."
"We can make it if we run."
“I am not running, it’s pouring down! That’s the reason I didn’t bring my bike!”
"At least it's not snowing." Steve looked over his shoulder, swerving to cut off a yellow cab and pulled right into an open space by the curb.
“You cannot be serious.”
"Run or face the wrath of Katie and Rori."
Bucky blinked, and in a flash his seatbelt was off and his door was opened. Steve smirked as he followed, sticking his wallet and phone in his pocket before he locked the car and the two of them set off at a sprint.
“You know, I thought the days of me running after your ass through the streets of Brooklyn were long gone, Stevie.” Bucky grumbled as they rounded the corner at the top of the road.
“The difference is now you can’t keep up!” Steve tossed over his shoulder, his long legs picking up the pace. Bucky gave a growl and surged after him.
Weaving through the groups of people, they themselves trying to avoid the rain, the two former war heroes dashed down the remaining blocks to get to the Rogers kids' school. Eventually, some twelve minutes later, they reached the t-junction and Steve gave a sigh of relief as he looked at the decorative lights which were strung atop of the school railings surrounding the yard.
The two of them sprinted across the road, Bucky giving a yell as a screech of tyres was heard and Steve dodged around a car as it skidded to a halt.
“Sorry!” He yelled, his legs scrambling as he hurried over to the gateway and up the steps to the main entrance.
Soaked but there, the two super soldiers heaved air into their lungs, pausing for a second in the warm and dry building.
“This way,” Steve picked up a slower jog down the corridor and grabbed the heavy door to the main hall, yanking it open.
The orchestra had just started to play its warm up, and his sharp eyes picked out the back of Katie’s head as she sat three rows from the front, Harry to her left, then Jamie on his brothers other side, Flossie having stayed at home with Emmy and Peter. He slapped Bucky’s chest with the back of his hand, and the two of them made their way silently down to their seats
As if he had casually just gotten up for a second, a soaked Steve Rogers slipped into his seat next to his wife.
"Cutting it a little close and wet there, huh, Soldier?" She turned to him, the dim stage lights reflecting in her eyes which sported an amused look.
“It’s Bucky’s fault.”
Katie peered over her husband and looked at his best pal, a unique glint of trouble in her eyes. Bucky smiled sheepishly before punching Steve with his fist. "Punk!"
From Katie’s other side, Harry leaned round to look at his dad and uncle, raising his finger to his lips. “Shhhh!”
Steve chuckled lightly and held up his hands as if saying 'okay'.
The curtains on the stage opened and the kids all filed on, Rori taking her place in the centre of the front row, next to the other lead.
Katie slipped her hand into Steve’s and he gave it a squeeze. “I’m nervous for her,” she whispered as the group began to sing, “this is a huge thing, her first solo.”
“She’s got her momma's talent and flair for drama,” Steve whispered back, “she’s gonna crush it.”
Katie nodded as she smiled proudly, her eyes landing back on their daughter as the group rattled through an extremely pleasant and melodic version of ‘Santa Clause Is Coming To Town’. "At least it's not Star Spangled Man with a Plan."
Steve bit back the snort as the first song finished and the room erupted into applause.
They watched the play, a tale about a lonely elf, which was pleasantly humorous and cute. Rori had been cast as the Christmas Wish Fairy and played her part well, twirling around the stage like she owned it. When the time for her solo song came, Steve felt Katie tense, but for no reason. As predicted their little Diva stood tall and belted out her song. When she finished, Jamie and Steve shot out of their seats, cheering as did Harry and to Steve’s amusement, Bucky too.
Rori bowed and then her eyes flicked to Bucky, then her dad who gave her a huge thumbs up. She beamed and then twirled off the stage.
“See,” he leaned over to Katie as he sat back down, “she’s more Stark than she is Rogers.”
Katie smiled and wiped the proud tears from her eyes as Steve kissed her temple. “You know she told Jamie he had to carry her bag into the back stage area before because she, and I quote, is the star of the show and therefore too important to carry her own stuff.”
At that Steve spluttered out a laugh. “And did he?”
“Course he did, for all his bitchin’ he’s as much of a sucker for her antics as you are.”
Steve smirked as he turned his attention back to the stage, his heart swelling in his chest with a pride and love that warmed him from the inside out.

tiny dancer ; chapter one
Pairing: bucky barnes x fem!reader, platonic!Steve x fem!reader
Prologue | Chapter 2
Word count: 1.2k+ (sorry its so short)
Warnings: fluff, angst if you squint, mentions of war, let me know if in anyway something upsets you and I’ll add that here.
Summary: After being drafted for the war in 1942, Bucky goes to the ballet a week before having to leave with his best friend Steve. There he becomes infatuated you with the prima ballerina of the show, and he just has to meet you before his last week in Brooklyn is up. He hopes one day you would meet again; little does it know it will be 72 years later.
A/N: It’s going to take me a bit to develop a smooth story line because there's so much backstory I need add, whilst still trying to make it engaging. Anyway thank you all for the likes and reblogs on the prologue, please let me know what you think of this next part. (Also I know some of this isn’t accurate to the movie and time in general but I think it still works.)
gif not mine*
Present day ; 2014
You looked upon the figure before you, trying to work out if it was who you thought it was.
Like many heroes and villains alike, you had a back story, and times like this called you to look back and dwell on how what was once a kind girl could barely be recognised behind your blank expressionless eyes. You felt nothing. Only numbness, and there was reason for that.
1943
After Bucky had left you kept in contact with Steve, catching up with him every so often. That was until he was finally allowed to join the war, and you bided farewell to your new friend. Hoping that one day you would see them again: sooner rather than later.
Not much long after word got around about Captain America. You could barley recognise your friend. Though from what you had heard he was still the same Steve, just a lot bigger and stronger. Like many things the ballet company you danced for had to close, most men and women were being sent away, many of colleagues had been sent to aid in the medical units of bases and camps. Part of you waited to receive a piece of paper in the mail informing you that you had to go as well. It never came.
One day though you did receive a letter, but not one you had expected.
“Dear y/n,
As I’m sure you have heard and seen, I’m no longer much like I was when I left. Though I would like to hope I am still the same man I was before ‘Captain America’ – and by that I am appreciative of the few friends I made before as they looked beyond what was displayed on the outside and more towards the inside.
Anyway, I didn’t write to you to boast or ramble on much more, but I have a job offer for you. You are one of the finest dancers I (and Bucky of course) have ever laid eyes on and so as Captain America is supposed to go on tour, I hoped you may want to be one of my back up dancers. I know for a fact that you will steal the show though.
Most of the girls have already been picked but I called in a favour to ask for you to join as well, I only had to mention you being Prima ballerina and the team were very invested in having you join us.
I’m in town at the moment, but we leave tomorrow. If you’re interested have your bags packed, someone will pick you up at 10am sharp.
I hope to see you tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Your friend Steve”
You gasped as his thoughtfulness, barely having to think over this proposition.
Of course, you would go, not only would you be able to continue what you loved, but you would also be helping the war in some way. It was even better you got to work alongside a friend. Your mind drifted slightly, perhaps you would see Bucky as well.
You ran from your living room and began frantically packing your bags with the essentials, and anything dance related you thought you may need. You weren’t sure what they would be providing.
-
Just as he’d said, a car picked you up driving you to an airport where you would catch a private ‘stark’ plane with the other dancers. You looked around for your friend, disappointed when you couldn’t see him.
Reaching up to put your bag above your seat, you heard a voice half whisper excitedly behind you.
“You came!”, This caused you to jump as you whipped your head around. There stood Steve, aka Captain America, aka The star spangled man with a plan. Except this time, he was no longer the small man who was constantly picked on when you had known him. Now he was easily 6 foot as you had to look up to meet your friends smiling face.
“Steve!” you responded, engulfing him in a hug causing him to chuckle. You let go of each other and you raised your eyebrow at him.
“And of course, I came silly!”
Most of the time after that was a blur.
You wore a costume that you were sure was too short for the era, covered in Stars and Stripes. Although it wasn’t ballet it didn’t matter as you’d trained in various genres, although it was much easier than any of the dancing you had done before. You girls were known as The Star Spangled Singers.
It was great getting to see Steve again and you made great friends with the other women who you worked amongst. Of course, there were always whispers about how you knew Steve, rumours flying around about the two of you. You and Steve knew they weren’t true, your heart belonged to another soldier, one you still hadn’t seen. Steve’s belonged to Peggy which he had told you about early on when you’d joined him.
Steve was such a kind man, and he was always grateful for the life he now lived but you knew he wished to help more rather than stand on stage surrounded by women spreading war propaganda.
The tour was coming to an end for the moment as the war got more intense. Your last trip to the final base of some American soldiers, which you had to admit you were most excited for as you hoped you would see Bucky. He hadn’t been at any of the others. You also knew you would finally meet the wonderful Peggy, both Steve and you were beyond excited.
The plane carrying you girls and Captain America finally landed. Everyone excitedly got off, many ready to see their fathers, brothers and boyfriends whom they hadn’t seen in a very long time. You on the other hand were struggling to find a necklace you owned which had somehow fallen off and you fell behind everyone.
“Y/n! Are you coming?”, yelled Steve leaning in from the planes doorway.
“I’ll be out in a minute,” you replied, “I’ve just lost something, I’ll meet you by the camp!”
Steve nodded and left leaving you there to frantically look for your beloved necklace. A gift from Bucky he had given to you a couple days in from knowing him. It was a dainty silver necklace, with two ballet shoes as the charm, you love it. Not just because it was pointe shoes but because it was from Bucky out fo thoughtfulness.
Finally, you found it after was seemed forever, you carefully placed it in your pocket as the clasp had broken off and you couldn’t put it back on. You grabbed your bag and walked of the plane, turning to your right to head to the camp, seeing Steve in the distance you smiled as you watched him talk to a woman who you knew had to be Peggy. Your eyes wandered next to him as you gasped at who stood there chuckling at something that had been said. Bucky.
That was the last thought you had when suddenly you were overcome by blackness and you dropped to the ground.
Present day ; 2014
You shook your head removing yourself from your thoughts, as you ran after the figure which had caused your mind to spin. He was fast, but so were you.
Everyone had known this man as a ghost, someone who had been around for over 50 years killing innocent people under the name of The Winter Soldier. But even under his face mask, and dark eye makeup he wore. Though you weren’t sure how it was possible; you knew who that really was.
James Buchanan Barnes.
It seemed you weren’t the only one with a tragic story.

Y/N’s plan was fool proof. Tonight was the night she’d bag Steve Rogers, Captain America, America’s Ass and Golden Boy. Throughout the awards ceremony, she gave him a subtle smile or a seductive drag of her necklace to focus his attention to her exposed decolletage. On occasion, she’d catch the lust-filled glances when she bit down her bottom lip, fingers skimming the plunging neckline of the designer gown.
The intermission between the awards gave her the perfect opportunity to pounce; Steve was standing alone at the bar, his hands in the black slacks as he spoke jovially with the bartender. Gosh, he’s so sweet, Y/N pondered as she circled the beautifully decorated tables full of beaming smiles and chattering guests.
Y/N was ready to strike, only a couple of tables away, when Natasha also joined them at the bar, a wave of guilt seeped into her bones as she watched the redhead fix Steve’s bowtie. It would have been cute if Y/N hadn’t already known about their shared history and battles.
The fully stocked bar was now calling her name, like a bumblebee seeking out its nectar. Y/N threw all caution to the wind to get something to dull the ache and nerves that crept up her skin. As she ordered her drink, Y/N kept a close eye on the pair, through the mirror at the bar, they were only a few feet away and she didn’t want to bring too much attention to herself.
After a kiss to Steve’s cheek, Natasha left his side to join Clint and Tony at their table. That’s right, Y/N didn’t get to sit with the Avengers, she was just a SHIELD agent after all. She gulped back the fiery bourbon, an attempt to wash away the bitterness from the table arrangements and how the press only wanted to see the team. Not the background lackeys.
“Something on your mind Y/N?” Steve’s voice brought her out of the glare she was boring into the mirror.
“Oh, Captain, I’m sorry. I was a million miles away.” Y/N waved her hand and a coquettishly smile formed on her rouged lips.
“I’ve told you before, please call me Steve.” He gestured to the barstool and Y/N obliged, knees knocking together with his as she took the seat, “I’m not as much of the fuddy-duddy that the team makes me out to be.”
Y/N giggled behind her hand at his choice of words before she straightened up, she couldn’t embarrass herself, this was the perfect moment, “and why are you hiding out over here instead of with your teammates?”
Steve glanced over to the Avengers; hundreds of eyes trained on them, photographers flashing away at each moment and the fans asking for autographs, “Well, I’ll let you into a little secret.”
She bit her lip and leaned closer, her hand resting on his knee. The excitement of being this close and touching Steve almost bubbled over in another giggle.
“I’m not a big fan of all that, and I’m probably going to head out of here soon.” Steve winked at her.
Y/N’s cheeks tingled at his gaze and she couldn’t help the way hers became entranced at the way his tongue poked out and swiped across his bottom lip. Snapping out of the haze, Y/N took to the floor, grabbing her skirt in one hand and Steve’s in the other.
He didn’t stop her but followed her blindly through the doors that the catering staff had entered into the ballroom. Zig zagging through the back rooms before finding a secluded spot. Y/N’s heart hammered in her chest as she tried to regain her breath.
To her surprise, and a small yelp later, Steve pulled open a supply closet door and tugged her in after him, “god, I’ve wanted to do this all night. All week.”
Y/N’s mind raced while Steve pulled her body flush to his in the dark. His cologne took over all her senses and the soft strokes of his fingers against her neck made her preen into the touch. Steve’s mouth crashed down to hers, a heated fray of lips, tongue and teeth as the passion ignited in them both. A few moments later, he pulled away, the pair of them panting in the confined space.
“I think about you all the time,” Steve whispered and nibbled at Y/N’s earlobe.
“Even though you have a fiancé?” Y/N gripped onto his biceps while he ravished her neck, humming in response to her question.
“Especially when she’s just lying there in bed, watching television without any thought for my needs.” Steve peppered kisses against the swell of her breasts. “There’s always an ‘I told you so’ after I do something rash.”
Y/N quivered under his touch, all excitement pooling at her core, “He never listens.”
“Don’t go back to him.” Steve demanded.
“Don’t marry her.” She countered.
In a swift motion, Steve had pulled up her skirt, and lifted Y/N, hooking her legs around his hips. Steve’s hardened length underneath the soft material of his slacks pressed to her core, moans dripped from the lips that had attached to his neck.
Y/N’s kisses led to a confession, “I can’t forget that night when we had that mission in San Francisco Bay. It was perfect.”
“Oh, honey, I’d never forget,” Steve growled against Y/N’s sternum.
“That’s a new pet name, honey.” She whimpered.
Before Steve could unzip his pants, they heard a knock. Y/N and Steve instantly pulled away and looked at one another in the near darkness. Then a third knock followed by a continuous wrap of knuckles.
The door was yanked open wide to an exasperated Tony Stark and Sam Wilson glaring at them both before the door was slammed shut in shock by Tony. It didn’t close, only opened up again, showing their widened eyes at the compromising position they had caught Y/N and Steve in.
The door finally pulled to a close, a line of light from the way it hadn’t clicked shut. The pair gave each other sheepish smiles but didn’t move. How were they going to explain what was going on? That they were making out, on the verge of having sex in a cupboard.
A light knock on the door was followed by Sam’s muffled voice, “I think you’d better come out now.”
A blush had formed on Steve’s cheeks, a red tinge crept its way down his neck and the space Y/N had created from yanking apart his tie and collar. Fear was evident in Steve’s eyes, but there was still a mischievous glint in the dilated blues.
Y/N’s eyes widened in panic, knowing that she would look as equally dishevelled, if not more. Lipstick was smeared around her mouth and her hair no longer neatly tucked into the intricately pinned updo. Teeth dug into her bottom lip as she straightened Steve’s tie and smoothed down the evening gown, luckily unwrinkled.
Tentatively, she pushed down the handle and opened the door to the cleaning supply cupboard and met the disappointed brown eyes and folded arms of Sam Wilson. Steve followed behind, his hands on her waist before dropping at the sight of Sam’s glare now directed at him. Both felt like naughty school children, and they should really because what they were doing was wrong and they’d been caught out.
“You better start explaining what the hell is going on right now.” Sam scolded, his stare unwavering from the pair. “Steve, you’re engaged for Christ's sake.”
Y/N went to speak but clammed up, opening, and closing her mouth. Guilt at being caught gnawed away at her stomach, while she focused on the floor and not looking at Steve or her superiors.
“Well, are you going to explain yourselves?” Tony looked between them, disappointment evident in his tone. “Now that your scandal is out in the open, care to share with the class?”
Y/N sighed and ran her fingers through her hair, knowing there was no way out of this, “So here’s the thing, we both realised that we find these events boring so we came up with a list of things to spice it up a bit.”
“Are you serious, kid?” Tony shook his head, turned to Steve, “And I expected better of your righteous ass.”
Y/N nodded meekly at Tony, no longer able to speak from the disappointment and guilt she felt for what they had done. This wasn’t Steve, or her, for that matter. They’d just gone with the moment, caught up in it all.
Tony looked at his watch, “You both have an award to present in, oh, two minutes. Get yourselves cleaned up. Move it.”
Both walked away from the scolding looks, feeling like a pair of kids caught eating ice cream before dinner. Except this was much worse. Y/N snuck a glance to Steve, who swaggered away from Tony and Sam, a smug grin plastered on his face. She pulled her lips in, trying to hide the smile that was creeping up.
Sam called, “Y/N, you’re forgetting something.”
Y/N turned around, her brow pulled together in confusion until Sam lifted his left hand and pointed at his ring finger. Realisation dawned on her and she scrambled into her purse to find the sparkling diamond.
“Let me,” Steve took the ring from her and held out her hand, gently putting it into its rightful place. “Now that we’ve crossed off roleplay. What’s next on our List of Rebellious Deeds?”
Y/N rolled her eyes, and looped her arm through his, “come on honey, we can get back to what we were about to do in the closet the second we are home. No rebellion required.”

Okay I hyperfixated on the Rogers : The musical. So below is my longass headcannon for song titles, song content, and general plot
Kingvonschweetz on tiktok had some great ideas I am basing this off of. Also one tiktoker who deleted their comment but like “ I am not my father ( I am my father’s son)” is a good ass song title.
Furthermore, there is only so much that the public knew, so certain characters or plot point can’t be in here. I did take some liberties with song titles and connected them to quotes despite knowing this wouldn’t be the true title.
This is the longest post I’ve ever posted.
Act I
Remember the Fallen
I think that the beginning should be a memorial, much like Wicked with No one mourns for the wicked (but positive). This could be used as a memorial for those lost. The opening set would be like the museum exhibit. With the actors rather than mannequins. The living walking amongst the dead, literal or a drawing / picture version.
The pictures behind would be of others, everyone should be represented howling commandos, fallen avengers, and Peggy. Some could be copies of sketches Steve made, I’m sure those would have been published. Then from here we would transition into the upbeat story of young Steve and Bucky
‘Til the end of the line (’til the end of time)
This would be a stereotypical, best friends forever, we’ll face the world together kind of song. Pointing out the trouble Steve gets in and Bucky bails him out. How awkward Steve is with girls, but both of their attempts to woo ladies. This would go into the war and Bucky being enlisted and Steve wanting to join him, and the insistence that they needed to do this together too.
Self-Made Man
I think this is a cute little introduction for Howard Stark - This would be at the Stark Expo and would be a running motif while Steve gets to know him and once we get to Tony.
I don’t like bullies, don't care where they’re from
This is the meeting with Dr. Erskine where we get to find out Steve’s motives and the story behind Redskull / why Erskine wants Steve specifically. This is where we get the “ good men becomes great” speech and establish the super serum and what it is.
A good man (The First Avenger)
This would be the transformation of Steve as well as the death of Dr. Erskine. We get to see the man Steve become, the confirmation of Dr. Erskine poking him in the chest to remind Steve of who he is and to show how the death affected Steve. Dr. Erskine was a good man and the first person that was Avenged.
Do you Fondue?
Another little mood break, but this would be a mood break where we see Steve and Peggy start to fall in love and learn more about Howard’s playful personality. I think it might be something more fluid / jazzy that Steve has issues keeping up with bc he can’t dance. This would be the cultivation of Captain America, outfit/shield.
Star Spangled Man with a Plan
This would be his role as Captain America, and eventually his mission to save Bucky
Take my hand
This would be about Bucky being by his side and always having his back/ brotherhood of the commandos. Until Bucky falls and Steve is alone, and it essentially ends with Steve begging for Bucky to take his hand and pull him back to his feet because he doesn’t know how to go forward from this. This is where Peggy would come in while he was drinking and comfort him and remind him that Bucky made a choice for himself.
Take my hand / Dance with me
A thought of how Peggy could turn Steve’s song from violent to a softer song, turning it with the same tune to something else.
I can do this all day / It's really no choice at all
Fight with Red skull. Would have similarities with Take my hand at the end, speaking with Peggy and letting her know he is making his choice (like bucky did) and then the promise to dance, they can go through something similar to their earlier song.
Act II
Opens with an Instrumental (A S.H.I.E.L.D. around the world) which will come up later. This introduces Shield and is the whole Steve waking up thing. No Nick Fury because he doesn’t exist to the public.
Man Out of Time
This would be Steve coping with the major change, and also foreshadowing/acknowledging Peggy’s imminent death.
I am not my father ( I am my father’s son)
Good old Tony. This would use motifs from self made man and kind of be Steve’s condescending way of poking at him, by saying he’s NOT a self made man but rather a legacy child. Establishing conflicting personalities and character foils for later.
A S.H.I.E.L.D around the world
This would be the creation of the Avenger’s team and the events of the first Avenger’s movie. Also their missions in general, essentially that they are the protectors / establishing the organization in the plot.
I’ll be there (On your left)
I think this is a funny little ballad, but also heartfelt as it’s the first time you see Steve make friends. Furthermore, you see that Sam is there to support him and truly understands how he feels.
The Winter Soldier
So I think this would be a fast paced kinda "Who are you?" " who am I? What do you mean who am I? Who are you? " " who am I ? ... who am I ? " " a good man ". This would use motif of A good man from act I, with Steve believing Bucky is a good person and needing to prove it to others. I think that Bucky, despite not completely knowing why also returns the sentiment when he saves Steve. I think “ ‘til the end of the line “, can make an appearance but I think it’s important to establish that Bucky is redeemable to set the stage for the fight over him.
If we lose, we’ll do that together too
The musical can’t be five hours long so unfortunately we have to fit age of Ultron and civil war into this song. It would most likely be easiest to have it recap the fall of shield and ultron ( which the public I don't think knows was Tony's creation otherwise SI would've gone bankrupt ).
Sokovia accords
This might be best as an ensemble - public view point of how the avengers were viewed and the bombing. Bucky / Wanda specifically, no one knowing what to do.
He’s my friend, so was I
Depending on how public the split was, this would be the fight at the airport, I don’t believe the Siberia fight wouldn't be public knowledge. It would have the overture of “Take my hand” in it though, the desperation to make amends but ultimately not being able to do it.
Act III
I’ll be there (No man left behind)
This would be the prison break, upbeat and very team like. This would also be them being vigilantes as I’m assuming they didn’t stop saving people even though they’re in hiding.
Star Spangled Man with a Plan - Reprise
This would be the fight with Thanos, then when the snap happens at a high point, you hear voices going out. Bucky’s voice is gone, Wanda’s voice is gone, T'Challa's voice is gone, half the instruments are gone, so the background doesn’t sound right.
Never meet your heroes
This is Tony’s return / his little meltdown. He went off to raise his family so everyone knows that him and Steve didn’t reconcile. I think it use an overture from “we’ll do that together too” but that’s me digging into movie quotes. I think this could also be the world realizing the avengers weren't going to save them and how the world kinda crashes.
A world on fire (What more could I lose?)
Steve lost Bucky and I don’t know if Clint’s killstreak is gonna be public, we’ll see in Hawkeye. The Asgardian relocation definitely had to be global news. I think this would be a good song to show how they’re struggling just like the rest of the world was.
Hope
Scott of course comes in and saves the day with his little speech of optimism, Hope’s name is a cute pun where he gets to explain what he’s lost and how he has hope that they can fix it. Tony ofc shuts him down, maybe - I don't have hope, I have Morgan. Some sort of quip. - I am slightly conflicted bc I don't know if hope / Scott's identities are completely public nor if Pym particles are public knowledge.
Changing the World for a Better Future ( We all deserve a future )
I think that the Stark branding is pretty well known and idk how copyright would work, but I like the Stark Industries slogan. This would be him solving the problem and them bringing everyone back. Could also be titled “Billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist” or “A Modern Marvel” which is a reference to his dad’s Expo in TFA.
No choice at all (It’s your choice )
This would be the final battle, asking to respect the wishes of the dead by calling back Peggy and Steve’s conversation. It is also a call to action for the audience as to whether they will be good people. Also, Steve Rogers was probably said to have died in the battle bc like who’s gonna tell the public they can just jump back in time and live life, so most likely with the mantel of Captain America is being passed on it’s also the dead avengers speaking to those left.
Yep. Hopefully my brain will allow me to rest now that this is all out. Please someone talk to me about this I fucking love musicals.

"Daddy, I found something else I want to ask Santa for, for Christmas." Rori bounced into the study and Steve closed his eyes on the papers he was trying to grade and sighed.
"I bet you have." He mumbled before he glanced up at his daughter and couldn't help but smile at her as she skipped over to him, her long pony tail swinging behind her "What is it, Princess?" "A capybara." she said, scrambling up onto his lap. "A what?" Steve frowned. "A capybara. Look!" she turned the tablet she was holding towards him to show him a picture of the brown animal "They're like huge guinea pigs. I saw one at the zoo with Uncle Buck yesterday and when I said I wanted one he told me to tell you that I was gonna ask Santa." "Course he did." Steve sighed, mentally cursing his asshole best friend. "You know, Rori, don't think Santa can get you one of those." "Why not?" "It’s too big." He attempted “There’s nowhere for us to keep it.” "Our garden is huge!" Rori blinked at him. "And when Emmy and Petey move into the Tower he can live in the cabin." Trust her to be as damned smart as her mother. "They're wild animals honey." Steve shook his head as he tried attempt number two. "But they live in a zoo." Rori looked up at him, her face full of eager excitement “That’s not the wild.” "Yeah but that’s different." Steve reasoned patiently. "They're not like dogs or cats or regular guinea pigs. They need very special care.” "Oh." Rori looked down a little, her shoulders slumping and Steve sighed.
Fuck you, Bucky.
"Okay. Never mind." She clicked off the screen of her tablet and turned towards Steve, looking up at him with those damned green eyes. "Do you think he could get me a kitty instead?"
No, just say no… "Maybe."
Way to go, Rogers. Rori's eyes lit up and Steve inwardly groaned. It was a well-known fact in their house that whenever Dad said maybe, it meant yes. Fuck.
“I love you Daddy!” she beamed, reaching up to press a kiss to his bearded cheek before she hopped off his lap and skipped towards the door “Oh, me and momma are going to make gingerbread men for tomorrow so we can have them when we decorate the tree.”
“Can’t wait baby.” He smiled
“Are you gonna be working tomorrow afternoon?” she asked a little shyly and he shook his head.
“No, I promise.” He assured her. “All day tomorrow is family day.”
She gave him another huge smile, one that truly warmed his entire being as it made her look even more like his wife, and then headed out of the room, her feet pattering on the tiles of the hallway as she skipped back into the other part of the house. Steve exhaled and looked back down at the paper, groaning as he realised he’d lost his place. He’d been home early that afternoon hoping for more peace and quiet than he got in his office at the University to concentrate on getting through all these and for the most it had worked, until Jamie and Rori had arrived home from school full of it as usual. Katie had kept them out of his way for the most but the realisation that Christmas was well on the way had hit the eldest two and whipped them up into a fever.
Not that Steve particularly cared. He adored this time of year. It was Katie’s holiday and from the day after Thanksgiving the Christmas period started in full throttle in the Rogers household, and they’d picked tomorrow, 2 weeks before the schools broke up, to go and pick the trees for their lounge and hallway. He was a little disappointed that it hadn’t snowed yet, there had been a good covering the previous year but, still it was set to be a cold and dry day so they could still get bundled up and have their hot chocolate and snacks as usual.
He rubbed at his eyes and focussed, reading through the paper in front of him on the ‘Strategy, Diplomacy and politics of Axis and Allied forces in WW2’, wishing to God he was marking something on the course he was actually employed to teach now- Fine Arts- but all those had been done and graded last week. This was the module of History that he taught, because as the Uni said- he was a living, breathing expert.
Aparently.
An hour or so later he finished red-penning the final six paged essay, with a proud smile as that one had been particularly good and he quickly checked it over once more, making sure he’d captured all the notes on the electronic copy and queued it up to send on Monday, just like Katie had shown him how to, so that each student had the hard copy and soft copy back. He stood up, stretched, turned off his laptop and headed through to the main area of the house, the smell of baking and cooking hitting his nostrils as he went.
He walked into the kitchen to find Rori kneeling on one of the tall stools over the island-slash-breakfast bar, her hands and face smeared in pink icing as she decorated a gingerbread man, her little tongue poking out of the side of her mouth in concentration. Katie was stood supervising Harry who was also covered in frosting, this one bright green. Flossie sat in the highchair opposite, banging a spoon on the tray occasionally letting out a yell or babble of something incoherent. As soon as she saw Steve she gave a huge grin and her shouts became louder and he smiled.
“Hi Floss-Floss!” he beamed, crossing to drop a kiss to her head before he looked across at Katie “Where’s Jamie?”
“Upstairs in his room.” Katie gave a little sigh “He said, and I quote, ‘I’m ten now, far too old to decorate gingerbread, mom.’ I could have cried there and then Steve.” She finished with a pout.
Steve gave her a sympathetic smile, the fact her eldest baby boy was growing up was something he knew she hated “Yeah, I bet he won’t be too old to eat them, though.” He appeased and she smiled.
“That’s what I said.” Rori gave a dramatic roll of her eyes and Steve chuckled.
“You finished Grading?” Katie asked as she gently guided Harry’s hand over the cookie shaped like a Christmas tree.
“Yeah, all done. Sorry it took so long.”
“It’s okay.” She looked up at him, smiling “Your dinner is in the oven. I already ate with the kids. Sorry, I was starving.”
“I didn’t expect you to wait.” Steve walked over the room and dropped a kiss to her cheek. “Thanks, Sweetheart.”
He made his way over to the Aga stove and opened the door, giving a little groan when he saw she’d done his favourite, a Mac and Cheese bake laced with chicken, chorizo and broccoli. He turned to look at her and didn’t miss the flicker of a smile on her face as she knew what he was thinking, before he pulled out the plate giving a yell as it burnt his fingers, dropping it onto the side with a clatter.
“Careful daddy, hot!” Harry turned to face him, and Katie burst out laughing.
“Yeah, thanks Son.” Steve tried not to roll his eyes as he sucked his thumb. Grabbing a tea-towel he gripped the plate, found some cutlery and sat down at the table to the side of the kitchen, tucking in.
“I finished all mine, Momma.” Rori grinned, placing the tube of squeezy frosting down on the side. Steve watched as Katie moved to look over Rori’s shoulder.
“Good job sweetie.” She smiled, “Creative, I’ve never seen a pink cat before.”
Steve paused and looked at Rori as she grinned “I know they’re not really pink, and my kitty won’t be, but it can have a pink collar.”
At that he winced and hastily shoved another forkful of food into his mouth, praying that the conversation stopped there.
Katie sighed “Rori we’ve been over this, you can’t have a cat.”
“Daddy said I could.”
Shit.
Katie’s eyes shot to Steve and he gave her his best innocent look, but from the way her features grew stern he knew he was utterly busted and he swallowed the food in his mouth which turned to cement in his throat.
“No, that’s not what I said.” Steve shook his head.
“You said maybe.” Rori shrugged “Same thing.”
“We getting a kitty?” Harry asked, looking at Katie.
“No.” she shook her head.
“But I asked Daddy if Santa would bring me one and he said maybe.” Rori looked at Katie.
“Well Daddy is wrong.” She glared at Steve and he visibly shrank in his seat. Katie’s green eyes narrowed before they turned back to Rori. “Santa can’t bring live animals. It’s in the rules.”
“What rules?”
“The Christmas Rules” Katie said quickly “No live animals. It’s not fair on them. They don’t like the sleigh.”
“But…”
“No buts Rori.” Katie sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose “I’m sorry honey, but it’s not gonna happen.”
Rori pouted a little but she knew when she was beat and glanced down at the cookies on the tray before she looked up, grinning smugly. “I’ll just ask Uncle Bucky to get me one. He got me Dory.”
“Oh for the love of…” Katie spluttered “Uncle Bucky won’t get you one either.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’ll tell him not to.” Katie looked at her “We have Stark. No more animals.”
Rori folded her arms and at that point Steve stepped in, sensing an impending tantrum.
“Aurora.” He said sternly and she turned her head to face him as he pointed his fork at her. “Enough.”
She glared at him before she sighed and looked at Katie “Can I get down now please?”
Katie obliged and pulled her stool out a little allowing Rori to hop down. “Stay right there little miss.”
“Why?” Rori frowned as Katie headed to the sink, coming back with a cloth. With a groan, Rori held out her hands so Katie could wipe them clean, along with the little smear of icing on her face “20 minutes and then its bath time. We’re up early in the morning.”
“Ooh, yeah!” Rori bounced excitedly “To pick our trees. Hey, can I get one for my room?”
Katie hesitated before she shrugged “You know, I saw some in the shop that already have the lights on and they change colour. We’ll get a big one for the lounge and hallway like normal and I’ll get you a special one. And you get to keep it for next year and the year after.”
Rori pondered this for a moment before she shook her head “I want a real one from the farm.”
Katie groaned, and threw her hands out to the side “Fine, just, go and watch TV or something in the Play Room.”
“I watch TV too please, Momma?” Harry asked and Katie nodded, cleaning him up too before she lifted him down off the stool. He toddled after Rori, yelling for her to wait and as soon as they were gone Katie rounded on Steve.
“Honey, I…” he began and winced as she exploded on him.
“Seriously? A damned cat?”
“She caught me unawares.”
“She always catches you unawares!” Katie scoffed “After six, almost seven years I’d have thought you’d be used it by now.”
“I only said-“
“And as usual I’m left to be the bad guy.” Katie ranted, shaking her head as she moved to turn Flossie’s chair so she was facing the table. “You’re an asshole.”
“This is technically Bucky’s fault.”
“Oh, no, Steven Grant Rogers! Don’t you are try and blame this one on Buck.” She hissed.
“But he took her to the zoo and told her to ask for a capybara!” Steve practically whined “When I said no she asked for a cat, the maybe just slipped out.” Katie paused, her arms folded, face furious and Steve peered up at her giving her a little smile “Don’t be mad, come on baby. I didn’t mean it.”
“You’re still an asshole.” She grumbled, before she crossed to the fridge and pulled out the wine. “And for that you can deal with bedtime. I’m going for a bath.”
“Sure, not a problem.” Steve nodded, swallowing more of his food. Katie poured herself a large glass before she moved to put the bottle back and then changed her mind. With the bottle in one hand, full glass in the other she made for the door. “I love you.” Steve shot as she passed him, and despite her annoyed demeanour, the slight smile that played on her face told him he wasn’t in too much trouble.
****
All kids were bathed and in bed little over an hour later. The youngest three settled down to sleep, Jamie instructed he had an hour of TV or reading time before lights off.
“Ok Dad.” He nodded, running his hand through his hair as he tidied up his games console a little, Stark curled up on the bed.
“I’ll be in to check.” Steve looked at him, and Jamie rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, I got it. You can trust me.”
“I know.” Steve gave a chuckle “Night son.” He crossed the room to drop a kiss to his head and Jamie pushed him away.
“Gerroff, I’m ten.”
“Yeah, well, you’re still my kid so…” Steve grumbled, and Jamie burst into laughter as the pair of them began to play fight, Jamie digging Steve in the ribs with a well-aimed jab. “Ouch! “ Steve stood up, rubbing at his side, that had hurt a little too much for his liking. “Nice shot.”
“Bucky said I had a good right hook.”
Steve rolled his eyes “I don’t wanna know how he even found that out.”
“He has a punch bag in the garage.” Jamie shrugged as he flopped down onto his bed. “Like yours. He was teaching me to swing.”
“I could teach you that.” Steve replied, a little petulantly.
“Will you?”
“No. You’re ten.” He shot back and Jamie let out a groan of frustration, before Steve chuckled “Ok, I’ll teach you a little IF you promise not to use it anywhere but on the punch bag.”
“But what if I need to use it?”
“Well, that’s different.” Steve pondered, before he shook his head. “But you’re far too young to be getting into situations like that.”
“Uncle Buck said you were fighting people form the age of six. And getting your ass kicked.”
“Well, you do as I say…”
“Not as I do, yeah I got it.” Jamie grinned and Steve arched an eyebrow before he made his way to the door. He paused and turned back to look at his son, not for the first time taking in how damned tall and broad he was for his age. He pointed to Stark “Don’t let your mother catch him on the bed.”
“You know she says the same thing about you.” Jamie looked at him and Steve chuckled.
“I do, but let’s just pretend I don’t okay?”
“Okay, night dad. Love you.”
“Love you too.” Steve smiled, closing the door behind him.
He made his way back downstairs and into the lounge, and paused as he saw Katie talking into the laptop, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Don’t worry about it.” She said softly, and he could tell she was fighting to keep her face straight as Emmy’s voice came from the other side.
“I’m just gutted we can’t get home to come with you guys for the tree.”
“What’s going on?” Steve frowned as he sat next to Katie on the sofa, looking at Emmy and Peter as they both waved to him on the screen “Hey Kids.”
“The UK has been caught up in a huge snow storm.” Katie turned to him. “Their flight has been cancelled.”
“Bummer.” Steve’s frown deepened “Is there nothing from another airport?”
“Not in London.” Emmy shook her head “And the roads are that bad, even if we managed somewhere else…”
“Don’t wanna risk driving Mr R.” Pete shrugged and Steve had to give it to him, that was a sensible move.
“Wise decision.” Steve bit his lip, before he turned to Katie “Can we not get The Stark jet over? You guys should have used that anyway, not gone commercial.”
The irony of his statement didn’t pass him by, as there’d been a time when he had hated using a private jet as he felt it was ostentatious, but he’d fast learned to live with it as it was less hassle and a damned sight comfier and quicker too.
“I told you we didn’t want to.” Emmy shot back and Peter hastily cut in to prevent an argument.
“Already tried Happy before we called. He can’t get in any airfield be it private or other. I’m really sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.” Katie shook her head “If you need anything just call. Have you got a place to stay?”
“Yeah, The Savoy found us another room.” Emmy shrugged before she grimaced “I’m gonna have to put it on my credit card though.”
“Don’t worry about that.” Katie shook her head “Just do what you gotta do, we’ll sort the bill out. Do you need us to wire you some cash or-“
“No, we’ve got enough between us for that.” Pete smiled “Just the hotel. We could get somewhere cheaper if that’s-“
“If it’s that bad out there you can stay where you are.” Steve shook his head. “Don’t worry about the money kids, it’s not important.”
“Just call us if you need anything.” Katie added.
“Thanks Mom. Look, we’re gonna go try and get something to eat and then sleep” Emmy sighed “It’s past 1 am now.”
“Sure, call us tomorrow okay, keep us updated.” Steve instructed and Emmy nodded.
“Will do. Love you both.”
“And you.” Katie smiled “Stay safe, and look after each other.”
“Got it.” Emmy grinned and with that she blew them both a kiss as Peter waved and the screen went blank.
Katie bit her lip before she tapped at the keyboard of her laptop “I’m going to send her some money, just in case. I know she has plenty in her savings, but…”
Steve nodded “Good idea. Those are for a rainy day, not a snowy one.”
Katie gave a small smile as she logged into the banking, and hesitated before she transferred a few thousand over to Emmy and closed the laptop, running her hands over her face. Steve saw her shouldes shake and he gave a sigh, pulling her to him.
“Hey, come on. They’re safe. In the poshest hotel known to man.” He pressed a kiss to her head “No doubt thinking this is some kind of huge romantic adventure. Snowed in, in London, with a mini-bar, room service.”
At that thought he grimaced, as his mind took him to a very dark place about just exactly what the spider kid would be doing to his daughter in said hotel room but he shook himself out of it as Katie spoke, sniffling a little.
“I know it’s just, well we started this tradition with Emmy that first Christmas she lived with us.” Her voice cracked “We went with Tony, Pep and Nat remember?”
“I could I forget.” Steve chuckled, his hands rubbing Katie’s back “You were almost five months pregnant and had that jumper on with a huge Christmas pudding on the front.”
“I’ve still got that.” Her voice was muffled as her face pressed into his Henley.
“And Pepper was going mad when Tony bought that nine foot tree for their lounge.”
“Ours wasn’t much smaller.” Katie laughed, leaning back to wipe her eyes. “You had to trim the top off.”
Steve chuckled, his hands cupping her face “A few days after that we found out bump was blue. Hello Jamie.”
“God it seems so long ago.”
“It was.” Steve smiled pressing a kiss to her lips. “11 years.”
“Yeah.” Katie looked at him “We’ve been through a lot since then.”
Steve nodded, as he wiped her face with his thumbs “And a lot worse than this. I know it’s disappointing, kitten, and I’m gutted as well, but it can’t be helped. We’ll still have a good time and we can go out with Emmy and Peter when they get back, nice meal and a few drinks somewhere instead, just the four of us. Start a new tradition now she’s all grown up.”
“Yeah suppose.” Katie sighed “I mean when they moved out in the New Year, they might not wanna come with us to get a tree anymore.”
“Like that’s gonna happen.” Steve snorted “She’ll simply be getting one for her own place. You know she loves Christmas as much as you. All the kids do. Because you make it so special.”
“It isn’t all down to me.” She smiled “You help.”
“It’s definitely your speciality.” Steve shook his head “You do the baking, the carols, the cooking…suss the decorations out.”
“Yeah, but you hang them. And you’re the one that started leaving Santa footprints by the hearth.”
“Okay so it’s a team effort.” Steve shrugged, dropping another kiss to her lips. “It always is when the kids are concerned.” He pulled back a little and nodded to her glass “You want another?”
“I wasn’t going to but yeah, now I do.”
Steve chuckled “I’ll go get us a drink, you find us something suitably Christmassy to watch.”
He stood, pressing his lips to the crown of Katie’s head before he wandered into the kitchen. As he closed the door behind him he pulled out his phone. He’d had an idea, but hadn’t wanted to mention it to Katie just in case it didn’t work…but if it did, well, he was going to reunite his family for their tradition and earn himself major husband points.
Win win situation.
“Hey punk.” Bucky drawled as he picked up.“What’s crackalackin?”
“God you talk some shit.” Steve rolled his eyes and Bucky laughed
“Sorry, we were watching Madagascar.”
“Yeah, I know where it’s from. I got five kids, remember. Six if I count you.”
“Well you could argue Diva Doll counts for two so you really have seven.”
“Yeah, speaking of which, I got a bone to pick with you about her and a damned capybara.” Steve narrowed his eyes as he spoke and there was a pause before Bucky burst out laughing. “Yeah, laugh it up, jerk. That got me in some major shit before.”
“You didn’t say yes?”
“No of course I didn’t.” Steve sighed “But she sideswiped me asking for a damned cat and I said maybe, so…”
“You fucking moron.”
“Whatever, listen, that’s not why I’m calling anyway.” Steve sighed, his voice growing serious. “I need a favour, Buck.”
“I’m listening.” Bucky replied, before Steve explained the predicament and possible solution. When he finished there was a pause and Bucky let out a long whistle. “Man, that’s…”
“I know, I know.” Steve sighed “But I wouldn’t ask if I wasn’t desperate. Katie’s heartbroken Emmy can’t get home.”
“Well, we can’t have the second most important woman in my life upset now can we?” Bucky replied “Leave it with me.”
“Cheers buddy.”
“You’ll owe me a life time of favours if I can pull this off.”
“We’ll call it quits for you almost getting me couched.”
“Not my fault you can’t say no to your likkle Princessa.” Bucky responded and Steve snorted.
“You’ve met her, right?”
There as another pause and Bucky laughed “Point taken.”
“Not a word to Katie.” Steve instructed “Just in case you can’t do it.”
“You seriously doubt me after all this time?” Bucky sighed “That hurts Stevie.”
“You know what else will hurt?” Steve shot back “My foot up your ass.”
“You want me to do this or not?” Bucky scoffed “Because threatening me aint gonna make me wanna do you any favours.”
“No but not wanting to see my wife upset is.”
“You fight dirty, Steven.” Bucky’s voice was low and Steve could imagine the narrowed eyes he was pulling as he spoke. “Okay, I’ll call Sam now. Leave it with me.”
“Thanks Buck.”
Steve cut the call and stuffed his phone back in his pocket, running a hand over his beard. Buck was right, it was a big ask and ridiculously over the top but, well, nothing was too much for him where his family was concerned. And after everything they’d been through this year what with Flossie’s horrific birth and Katie’s post-partum depression, his amazingly brave and gorgeous wife deserved the damned world. With a sigh he yanked open the fridge as he pulled out Katie’s wine and a beer for him, simply hoping that it worked.
**** “You good?” Steve asked as Jamie hopped into the back of the Q7, taking his place on the rear row of seats.
“Yup.” Jamie grinned “I prefer it back here, Rori can’t bug me.”
“Wanna bet?” Rori turned her head and peered at him from her place in the middle of the second row and Steve shot her a look.
“Enough. I hear one sound outta you that’s annoying him, we’re coming straight home.” He said sternly. Rori eyed him shrewdly, as if weighing up whether he was serious or not and he raised his eyebrows, challenging her.
“Ok Daddy.” She shrugged, turning back round. Steve shot Jamie a wink as turned and collapsed Flossie’s little stroller. He slotted it down the side of Jamie’s seat before he shut the trunk and then quickly inspected the roof rack. Satisfied he looked up just as Katie came out of the house, Flossie on her hip, Harry jumping down the steps in front of her. He headed over to his dad and peeked up, Steve giving a laugh as his little woollen hat slipped down over his eyes.
“Come here, buddy.” He said, swinging him into his arms. The little boy gave a giggle as Steve pulled his hat straight so he could see.
“Thanks Daddy!” he smiled and Steve pressed a kiss to his rosy cheek.
“No problem. You ready to get a tree?”
He nodded “Big one!” he threw his arms out wide and Steve nodded seriously.
“The biggest.”
Ten minutes or so later they were sailing out of Brooklyn in the winter morning sun, heading for the tree farm some forty or so minutes away. True to her word, Rori was behaving and chatting to Harry, Jamie was quiet in the back doing something on his tablet and Katie was gently humming to something on the radio. Steve’s hand reached over for hers and he entwined their fingers, gently bringing her arm across his body, pressing a kiss to her wrist.
The journey pass uneventfully and as Steve announced they had arrived the kids all gave a cheer. He parked the car up and then the disembarking began along with issued orders for Jamie and Rori to stay where they were as they sorted the youngest two.
“I think I’ll just carry Floss.” Katie glanced around. “Pushing her stroller is gonna be a pain. I’ll put her in the carrier.”
“You sure?” Steve asked “I would say I’d do it but…”
“You’re gonna be carrying trees, yeah I know.” Katie waved him away. “Its fine, she’s not heavy. Besides, she’ll be too big to do this with next year.”
Steve smiled at her wistful tone, and between them they had Flossie strapped to Katie’s back in no time, having become experts at it over the years. Katie glanced over her shoulder as Flossie gave her a hug grin, before she peeked around and started to gabble animatedly.
“Ready?” Steve looked around and held the hand that wasn’t containing the saw out, Rori taking it as Katie took Harry’s, Jamie falling into step at her other side next to Steve who strategically placed himself between his eldest son and Rori to avoid any potential arguments between the two siblings.
“Want me to take that Dad?” Jamie asked, nodding to the saw. Steve hesitated then shrugged, it had the safety cover on so he handed it over, Jamie slinging it over his shoulder proudly, stepping in front of them a little and Harry wriggled his hand free of Katie’s and ran forward to take Jamie’s. Jamie smiled down at him and Steve shared a glance with Katie as she smiled at him, slipping her hand into his. The family made their way to the entrance and as they approached the various little trade stands, one of which was selling various hot drinks and baked snacks. Katie took a deep breath and smiled, the warming scents of spices, cinnamon and pine hitting her nostrils.
“Smells exactly the same.” She beamed and then frowned as Steve was looking around, blatantly not listening to her as he was busy studying something to their right.
“Hey!” she tugged on his hand and he glanced down at her.
“Sorry, honey.” He diverted his attention “Just saw someone I know.”
“Oh, from work?” she asked.
“Not exactly.” He nodded in the direction he had been looking and Katie spun at the same time Rori let out a shriek.
“Emmy!” she yelled, wrenching her hand free of Steve’s and bolting towards her sister as she strode towards them alongside Peter, Bucky and Sam.
“I don’t-how?” Katie was struggling for words at the sheer emotion of seeing her eldest daughter, who should still be stranded in England, sweeping Rori into hug. “Steve? What?”
“You got Bucky and Sam to thank.” He said gently, as she spun between them all, before she strode forward meeting Emmy halfway and throwing her arms around her.
“Hey mom!” Emmy smiled, before she pulled back and gently waggled Flossie’s hand. “Hi Floss!”
“How did you get here?” Katie sniffed, wiping her eyes, chuckling before she gave Pete a hug.
“Quinjet.” Emmy grinned “It was awesome. Hey Dad!”
“Hey, sweetheart.” Steve swept her up into a huge hug, picking her up slightly off the ground kissing her head. “Nice to have you home.”
“Hold up, a Quinjet?” Katie looked at Emmy, then to Bucky who shrugged.
“Yeah well Steve rang me last night begging for my help…” he began, putting on a whiney voice “Please Buck, I can’t do this without you Buck, you know the usual.” Steve rolled his eyes as Bucky sniggered. “So, me and Birdbrain set off on a daring rescue mission.”
“Yeah, we totally used and abused Fury’s equipment.” Sam chuckled, as he pressed a kiss to Katie’s cheek as he gave her a hug. “He’s gonna be pissed when he finds out.”
“Oh, screw him!” Katie gave a laugh as she turned to Bucky, wrapping her arms round him. “Thank you so much!”
“Anything for you darlin’” he beamed before she stepped back and spun to face Steve, reaching up and grabbing his face. With a smile she pulled him down to meet her in a long, deep kiss.
“Thank you.” She whispered against his lips, and he beamed at her, his nose brushing hers. “I love you, so much.”
“Love you too.” He smiled, before he drew himself up, a little embarrassed at their PDA in front of his two friends and the kids. “Right, who’s ready to go tree picking?”
“We’ll leave you to it.” Bucky smirked as various excited shouts rang out around them. “I’ve got stuff to do with Jen and Sam’s…ahhhh, crap.” The smile on his face turned into a grimace and Steve spun round to see a familiar figure in a trench coat and eyepatch stood by a black SUV watching from a distance.
“Son of a-” Steve snorted, shaking his head as Fury started walking towards of them. “He still knows everything.”
“You have no idea. “Sam muttered.
“Oh, trust me, we do.” Katie grinned as Fury stopped in front of them.
“Someone wanna tell me why one of my jets was in London this morning?” Fury looked at Bucky, then to Sam, then to Peter, all three of them giving him an innocent look.
“Well, there was a thing.” Bucky shrugged “Emergency.”
“Emergency.” Fury dead panned “So nothing to do with a certain Miss Rogers and Mr Parker being stuck in London in snow storm?”
“How do you know this stuff?” Bucky looked at him.
“I told you Barnes, you wanna get one up on me you gotta keep both eyes open.” He levelled him with a look. “Happy called me in a flap to see if I could action a pick up and I told him I wasn’t running a damned Uber service. And then one of them went missing so I put two and two together and looks like I came up with four” He paused and shrugged, smirking a little “Plus, you forgot to wipe the mission log.”
“Damned it Tin Man!” Sam shoved Bucky “You dick, I told you!”
As the two men began to squabble Fury raised his eyebrows and turned to Steve and then Katie, a small smile flickered across his face “Nova, Cap. Long-time no see.”
“Hi Nick.” Steve smiled, reaching out and shaking his hand.
Fury jerked his head as Katie shook his hand, his eyes roving over each of their kids in turn. “I’ll say. You’ve been busy I see.”
Katie gave a huff “One way of putting it.”
Nick arched an eyebrow before he sighed and turned to Bucky and Sam who were still bickering. “Imma let this one slide.” He spoke loudly, the two men instantly turning to face him. “But only because it’s the holidays and I’m in a good mood.”
“You know technically Stark Industries owns half those jets. Tony paid for and designed a lot of the tech on them after all.” Katie quipped and Nick looked at her, before he let out a laugh.
“You’re more like your brother than you’ll ever care to admit” he shook his head as she snorted, pointing at her.
“Worse people to be like.” She smiled fondly, and Fury gave one last scoff before he turned to Sam and Bucky.
“I’ll see you two later. Now, imma go get me some churros then split.” He looked back at them all “Merry Christmas.”
As they all waved him off, watching the curious glances he attracted as he strode towards the hot food stand and then Harry tugged on Steve’s sleeve, causing him to turn his attention from Fury to the little boy.
“Daddy, who’s the pirate?” Harry asked.
There was a pause before Katie burst out laughing, Steve following suite as they both shared a knowing glance, remembering Tony’s fond little nickname for their one time director.
The Goth Pirate.
“He’s an old friend of mine and your momma’s “Steve explained before he glanced up, not surprised to find that once more Fury had disappeared from sight. “We haven’t seen him in a while. And I doubt we will again for a long time.”
There were more hugs shared and after another final thank you to Sam and Bucky, Katie demanding they come over later for drinks, the four remaining adults and four kids all headed into the farm and the chaos began as they began to scout for their perfect trees.
“So we need two large ones.” Katie spoke, “And one for Emmy and Pete in the Cabin and a smaller one for Rori’s room.” she paused “Jamie, did you want one for your room too?”
“Nah, it’s okay.” He shook his head “Thanks though.”
“So four over all.” Steve nodded. “Okay gang, let’s find us some trees.”
They decided to get Rori’s first as it would be smaller and easier to carry once they’d picked it. They set about walking down the various aisles, and before long the jokes started flowing and they were getting worse and worse with time.
“What would you get if you ate the Christmas decorations?” Pete asked and Jamie looked at him, arching a brow. “Tinselitis.”
“Oh God.” Emmy snorted “That’s as bad as one of dad’s”
“Which reminds me.” Steve said, a smirk on his face, “Did you guys hear the forecast for Christmas eve? They’re predicting rain, deer…”
Katie and Emmy both let out a groan as Jamie and Peter howled with laughter.
“What do you call an elf that runs away from Santa’s workshop?” Jamie asked and Steve paused before he shrugged.
“No idea.”
“A rebel without a Clause…”
Katie, Steve, Emmy and Pete burst out laughing as Pete held out his hand to hi-five him. Jamie grinned.
“That’s a good one buddy.” Steve chuckled. “Where did you hear that?”
“Moo text me before.” He smiled “She said her and Auntie Pep had been googling them to put in their cards this year.”
“Like Father like daughter.” Katie smiled to herself, a little nostalgically as a memory of her brother crashed over her and Steve pulled her a little closer, his hand tightening on hers as he dropped a kiss to her head.
After half an hour or so of scouting and plenty of excited shouts and laughter, Rori paused in front of a tree that was the same height as her and she gave a gasp.
“Daddy, that one.” She pointed.
“You sure?” he cocked his head to one side. The tree was leaning to one side, the branches completely uneven, sticking out at all angles and the top was bent. “It’s a bit-”
“It’s perfect.” Rori insisted.
“Okay Princess, whatever you say.” He looked at Katie as she smiled, her hand dropping to the back of Rori’s head. “Jamie, you got the saw?”
“Yup.” Jamie nodded, passing it over and they all watched as Steve gripped the trunk of the small tree with one hand a little higher up and began to cut it towards the bottom. He could have easily snapped the trunk with his bare hands but he played the part and in four strong swipes it pulled free with a little crack and Rori gave a shriek and clapped her hands.
“I love it!”
Once the safety cover was back on the saw they continued their search, walking towards the slightly bigger trees they spotted and Katie paused in front of a large, Norwegian spruce and reached out, gently crushing one of the needles between her fingers. She took a sniff and stepped back, nodding.
“That one.”
“I still can’t believe you pick them with the smell.” Steve shook his head.
“It’s not all the smell.” She protested “There’s a lot to consider. The height, width and spacing of the branches…this one’s just right for the corner in the lounge. And that one two down will do for the hallway.”
Steve chuckled, knowing better than to argue. “Positive?”
Katie nodded and once more Jamie passed him the saw. This time they all stepped back as Steve crouched down on the ground, expertly cutting the trunk and just the right place. As he took the final swipe, the tree pitched over to a loud shout of “Timberrrrr” from Jamie and Peter and it landed with a thud.
Harry gave a loud cackle and clapped, Flossie shrieking too as Steve then moved two down and repeated the action with a slightly smaller one that would sit in the entrance lounge directly in front of the photo of the pair of them at their wedding, so it would be the first thing anyone saw as they walked into the house.
Emmy strode past the tree to one that was behind it and then nodded to Pete “I think this one will do. I kinda like the way it fans out at the bottom.”
“Sure, Em.” He smiled “Mr R?”
“Oh, here.” Steve handed him the saw and watched as Pete cut his and Emmy’s first Christmas tree down, his arm round Katie’s waist, lips softly kissing Flossie’s cheek as the baby grinned. He arched an eyebrow as Emmy pressed a kiss to Pete’s lips, giving a soft huff as Katie dug him in the ribs, shooting him a warning glance which he returned with an innocent one of his own.
“Well, that was easy.” Emmy commented “It took us 2 hours last year.”
“They need to be right.” Katie shrugged simply, Steve and Emmy exchanging a look before Steve watched as Pete hoisted his tree easily onto his shoulder. It still surprised Steve how strong Peter was, even though it shouldn’t, he knew he was enhanced after all.
“I’ll take Rori’s, Dad.” Jamie stepped forwards, puffing his chest out a little, picking the smaller tree up easily and placing it on his shoulder, in an identical manner to Pete. Steve actively fought the urge to laugh as Jamie began to walk besides Peter and Emmy, clearly proud as punch at being able to help before he turned to Katie.
“Don’t say it.”
Katie laughed “Oh I’m gonna.” she smirked “If he was any more like you I’d be convinced he was a clone.”
Steve snorted as he bent down and easily lifted their two trees onto his shoulders, before they followed a little slower due to Harry being with them. Steve maneuvered around the other tree pickers as they went, his boot clad feet traipsing on the damp of the ground as they made their way back towards the main entrance and joined Pete, Emmy and Jamie at the place ready to pay. As the various helpers, all dressed in little Elf outfits bustled around to wrap their trees and strap them to the roof of the Audi, Katie was suddenly struck with a little problem.
“Hang on.” she turned to Emmy as she thanked the man who’d been dealing with and handed over the cash. “How are you two gonna get home if Bucky and Sam left?”
At that Pete gave a little grin and pulled a set of keys out of his pocket, “Mr Wilson let me borrow his Chevvy.”
“Yeah they went home on Buck’s bike.” Emmy shrugged and at that Steve let out a huge laugh.
“What?” Katie asked.
“Sorry, I’m just picturing those two riding pillion.” He snorted “I give it five minutes before Sam ended up tells Buck to let him off on account of him driving his Ducatti like a maniac.”
“You’ve no room to talk.” Katie scoffed and Steve looked at her with mock outrage.
“Mom?” Jamie asked and Katie turned to him “Can we get a drink now please?”
“Sure, come on.” She smiled and they headed over to the stall. She purchased a hot cider each for her, Steve, Emmy and Pete before hot chocolate for each of the kids along with a selection of donuts, churros and Stollen as Steve took Flossie back to the car so they could pop her in the stroller. They made their way over to one of the benches by the side and sat down and Steve returned, parking Flossie besides them before he handed her a piece of a donut and slipped his arm round Katie, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“You have a good time?” he asked.
“Yeah.” She beamed, before she glanced over at the other side of the bench. Jamie was settled to Emmy’s left, talking to her about school, as she nodded along whilst Rori was perched on Peter’s knee as she animatedly told him about how she was going to decorate her tree in unicorn colours. Harry meanwhile sat in between both Pete and Emmy, his little frame chewing on a donut as he grinned at his parents who smiled back. Katie turned to look a Steve again, leaning up to kiss him softly “It’s been perfect, thank you for making sure we were all together.”
“Well it wouldn’t be a Rogers Christmas otherwise would it?” he smiled, kissing her again.
“Get a room.” Emmy grumbled and Steve turned to her as she smirked, shoving a piece of donut in her mouth.
“Watch it young lady.” Steve pointed at her.
“Daddy.” Rori asked “Can I go with Pete in their car to Target? I need decorations for my Princess Tree.”
Steve hesitated for a while and Pete hastily cut in “It’s no bother Mr Rogers.”
“Yeah we need some for ours.” Emmy nodded.”So we’re going anyway.”
“I come too?” Harry asked hopefully and Emmy shrugged
“If Momma and Daddy say it’s ok, course you can, squirt.”
Steve looked at Katie who shrugged “Fine by me. Sure you can manage them?”
Emmy rolled her eyes “They’re no bother.” She then turned to Jamie “You wanna come too?”
“Hell no.” he said hastily, peering round at Rori before he shook his head “I’m going home for some peace and quiet.”
Both Steve and Katie let out a loud laugh, as Katie shook her head “Oh Jamie.”
“What?” he frowned.
“Nothing pal.” Steve smiled, reaching for his cider. “Nothing at all.”

The donut mishap
Note - This is the first of my soft!reader series. I'll try to post them chronologically now on. Note that this is set in 2013. And a dear friend helped me out with this. Thanks a lot to her <3.
Summary - A quest of baking donuts brings you to the avengers tower. But what happens when your paths cross with the star spangled man?
Warnings - curse words, steves ptsd
Pairing - Steve Rogers x reader
Word count - 2.3k
Masterlist is linked in the bio!
You squinted your eyes concentrating on putting just the right amount of pressure on the piping bag to get the perfect swirl of frosting on the cupcake. Your breathe hitched as a little air bubble appeared, aside from that it looked perfect. With a nice stiff peak.
You smiled looking over the cupcakes and donuts; over 12 hours of work. You felt like a proud mama.
When you started working at the Bakery, granted you only did so because you loved how cute their desserts looked but never could afford them, you thought you’d get to make money off of your love for baking.
Instead they stuck you in the back, doing books and maintaining accounts. Yeah you were going to grad school to be an accountant but it still wasn’t fair!
You never got to learn anything new about baking, or even try any delicious pastries. You just spent 4 hours everyday playing with the numbers.
And then you got a call from Linda, your boss. Panicking about how the head chef is sick and they have an order from the Avengers.
The Avengers were just a bit controversial. But for the most part everyone was grateful for them and looked up to them.
You can’t disappoint them. They’re superheros! Literal gods!
You didn’t really have much of an opinion on them. Except that the God of thunder from space made you all tingly sometimes.
You were just happy you got the chance to make such variety of desserts. Maybe now you could convince Linda to let you help out in the kitchen every now and then.
“You’re going to have to deliver them yourself.” Linda said looking them over and taking a small bite from the mint macaroon. “Take a taxi. Think you can handle it?” She handed you a hundred dollar bill.
There were only two boxes, one with the donuts and another with different assortments of patisseries. You accepted the bill and called for an Uber.
Normally the bakery doesn’t do delivery but when someone even mentioned Tony Starks name, Linda agreed to deliver, almost gave it away for free.
You made it to the tower in one piece. Glad to know that all the desserts seemed like they were doing alright in the boxes. You craned your neck up to look at the tower. Yet you couldn’t see the top.
You tried your best to be careful with the giant pink boxes in your hands muttering ‘excuse me' to anyone you may come across so as to not bump into them. You gently lay the boxes on the reception counter. Giving the brunette receptionist a huge warm smile.
“These are for Pepper Potts. Should I just leave them here...” You trailed off.
Looking around to see everyone dressed to the nines in sleek business formal clothes. You were wearing your pink dress with small red strawberries splattered all across it, it ended just below your knees, maybe not the perfect dress for the beginning of fall, or making a delivery for that matter. It made you feel self-conscious you tried your best to not think about how unprepared you must seem.
Which wasn’t entirely your fault. They were the ones that expected such a large order in under 12 hours.
“Alright ma'am you can go up and set them up.” She said hanging up the phone and giving you a visitors pass.
“Oh I...” You wanted to disagree. Ask for someone else to do it. You just KNEW you were going to mess it up.
But you couldn’t really say anything when she smiled “Thank you.” Probably in a way to shoo you off and deal with the person behind you.
You somehow made your way to the elevator, asking for directions twice, only it was too crowded and you were running out of time. “I’ll take the next one.” You said, although no one really seemed to care, they were either looking at their phones or chatting with each other.
A nervous smile painted on your face, so you could delude yourself into thinking everything is fine to calm your nerves. You couldn’t even afford to take your phone out of your sling bag to look at the time, not with your hands occupied.
After waiting for forever you were able to get into an elevator which was only occupied with a few people. Finally you were at your desired floor.
You were to take the boxes to conference room B12.
So you looked around, distracted. Your mother had always told you that your absent mindedness will one day come to bite you in the ass.
‘Try living in reality once in a while.’ She had said in such a condescending tone.
You huffed back then, thinking you were fine just the way you are. Until you bumped into what you thought was a brick wall, too distracted by the numbers and signs and twists and turns.
You quickly looked in front of you, when you felt the boxes you had held up collide with something. It wasn’t a wall, it was what looked like a human man. You tried to balance your feet stumbling back a bit before falling flat on your ass.
“Omph” You let out as you felt the cold hardwood floor sting your behind. Your precious donuts and desserts falling to the ground.
You looked at the ruins, how the frosting and sprinkles decorated the floor, taking it all in, asking yourself if this is a dream.
By the angle you were sitting in, you were sure the man could see your underwear, but you didn’t care. Because you were completely ruined.
You looked up at him, your lips quivering and your eyes glossy. “Why?” You asked as he stared at you completely dumbfounded, as if he had never seen a girl before.
Steve wanted to refuse right away. As soon as they said the words ‘honor’ and ‘appreciate’. A ceremony just to honor him and thank him for his service to his country.
He did try to convince Tony that he hated such things. To be the centre of attentions and plaster on a pageant smile for all the flashing cameras. That is not what he signed up for. His goal was never to get fame and recognition.
He ultimately had to relent. Because it was supposed to be an inspiration for others and to ‘boost morale’.
“Just flash your perfect pearly whites for a few hours, it’s really not that hard.” Tony said slapping Steve’s shoulder. As if they’ve been friends forever and he doesn’t take some kind of sick sadistic pleasure in watching Steve suffer.
They spoke of how brave he was, how even as a sickly kid he stood up for what was right. For his country.
Really he could tolerate all that. Even be grateful for it.
But his anxiety came back as they showed pictures from the wartimes, projected onto the white screen.
He’s a hero they said.
So brave.
Selfless and compassionate.
A man out of time.
Lies. Blatant lies. He was far from a hero. He knew that. But he realized the extent of it when he saw the pictures, some of them familiar to him, having happened just in front of him not so long ago, even if it had been decades for everyone else.
All of his brothers, his best friend died. Protecting their country. For their duty. They made the ultimate sacrifice and were more than happy to do so.
He recalled one commander saying how he would love to die serving his country. It would be his greatest accomplishment.
And here he was. Wearing a suit that he had no doubt cost thousands of dollars. Drinking expensive champagne, giving interviews, having his face on magazine covers. Taking pictures with his ‘fans'. Living the high life.
How the fuck was he a hero?!
He couldn’t look at the remaining pictures or listen to them. He tried to zone them out, tune out his anxiety and his guilt. To not let his mind go to those dark places, to linger on the past. Nothing good would come out of it.
He could still do good. Be good. Wash off his sins. If he kept trying and moving forward. If only it wasn’t so hard.
There was no such thing washing your sins off of you. No one can resolve their sins by simply confessing to them in church. Or counting thousands of hail marys. His hands and his soul will always be tainted with blood.
Somehow he got through the whole thing. He was about to run off the men’s room. To take a breathe and collect his thoughts.
Tony stopped him “What’s with your resting bitch face Rogers?” He snarked but was taken aback by the scowl he received “Fine go. Remember we have a meeting with the corporal.”
Which was what the whole ruse was all about. To appease the army. He was surprised at just how bad the whole world is, but he couldn’t even begin to comprehend the shitshow that the army had become.
He rubbed his face sprinting towards the balcony. To get some fresh air, be alone as long as he can before he has to go back to being Captain America.
Maybe that’s why he didn’t hear your footsteps, which his sensitive hearing really should’ve picked up on.
He turned the corner only bump into you. Making you fall on your ass.
“Why?” You gave him a look of betrayal as tears fell down your face. You wiped your cheek with the back of your hand kneeling and working on putting your desserts back in the box.
“Oh my god... ma’am I’m so sorry.” He apologized as soon as he registered what he had down. Crouching down before you to help you clean it up. But he doubted that you would be able to eat them.
“All my work.” You moaned looking up and meeting his eyes.
Your defeated face almost made him pull you into his arms. But it wouldn’t exactly be proper to do that to a stranger.
“Don’t call me ma'am!” You huffed as more tears escaped your eyes. “I’m not like 50!” You crossed your legs sitting on the floor and staring at your boxes.
“What should I call you then?” He asked his tone gentle and inquisitive. Truly curious to know what your name was.
“How about you call me nothing? You’ve done enough.” You frowned as you looked into his crystal blue hues. He was simply put beautiful.
You never thought that’s the adjective you’d use to describe a man, but that was all you could think of.
However his beauty didn’t excuse his actions. It certainly wouldn’t bring back the desserts you worked so hard on. So all you could do was be mad at him.
“I can pay for them.” He blurted out and then winced. You probably made them yourself. He can’t exactly replace them.
“It was the first time I truly baked. And now I’ll lose my job.” You sniffled tracing the frosting which was smeared on the floor with your finger. “And the Avengers will all go hungry...” You rambled your voice small. All you wanted to do was curl up in a ball and cry into a pillow.
You sneered at him as he chuckled. He immediately stopped pressing his lips into a straight line. “I doubt they’ll go hungry. I promise you won’t lose your job. No one has to know.” He reasoned. His plump rosy lips stretch into a smile, that must be worth at least a million dollars. His eyes creasing and yeah he really was beautiful.
You felt your anger resolving but decided to remain firm. To not let him work his charms on you. “They will call my boss when the delivery doesn’t arrive. And my boss will fire me!” You exclaimed spelling it out for him. Since he seemed to fit the stereotype of the dumb pretty blonde. Or was that exclusive to women?
“I can promise you no one will tell your boss.” He hesitated but then put his hand over yours in an effort to reassure you.
“What? How – how will you do that?” You asked getting more and more frustrated that he failed to understand just how grave this situation was for you.
“I uh... do have that kind of authority.” He said giving you a small nod. At least he could do some good with this ‘status' he held.
“Hm” You hummed still suspicious. But he was wearing a suit which looked expensive. His stance seemed that of someone who was powerful. His voice although soft held some stern undertones. “I – how do I believe you?” You asked and laughed at your misery as you realized you didn’t really have a choice.
Finally, pressing a palm on the floor you got up. Collecting your boxes. “It’s okay.” You sighed. “I guess I wasn’t really looking either. Whatever happens I’ll deal with it.” You said giving him a somber look.
“Uh – are you sure?” He stammered afraid he got you in trouble and couldn’t really do anything about it. Even more so that you were leaving and he’d probably never get to see you again.
“I’m not really a liar.” You shrugged as he stood up with you.
You didn’t have the opportunity to marvel at his tall stature, and how big he was compared to you. Or just big in general. You simple turned around your head hung low.
Only to look back at him over your shoulder. You tried to suppress a whimper, at just how hopeless you were, and asked “Which way is the elevator?”

Okay rewatched the zombie episode of What If…? when I’m not half asleep:
One thing I love about What If…? is that it’s filled with references to other nerdy shows and constantly self references the MCU. T’Challa’s episode was filled with Star Trek and Star Wars jokes. This episode is no different!
-Grr argh - Peter’s zombie video…
…makes a reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer:
-The call cards for Happy, Bucky and Sharon all reference other movies. Bucky is a “heavy sleeper” because of 70 years of cryofreeze. Sharon is good at eulogies re: Civil War.
-Happy makes a Jersey joke (dunking on Jersey is seen in basically every New York City based media), but Bucky does this as well in CA:TFA when he catches Steve faking his papers.
-The van that grows and shrinks is a reference to Ant Man.
-Splitting up goes terribly wrong and someone dies, every horror movie ever CHECK! There are a lot of visuals that parallel common zombie tropes.
-Sam kicking Bucky is a callback to CA: The Winter Soldier
-Camp Lehigh is a reference to two different Cap movies. That Sam and Sharon are here continues the TWS references (as well as Civil War) likely because Bucky is Cap in this verse. His shower curtain is even star spangled.
-Sharon is killed by Cap - ironic considering their kiss in Civil War.
-Bucky’s slight head tilt as he stares down Steve parallels their helicarrier fight. Except Steve is the one too far gone and Bucky kills rather than saves Steve. The shield is picked up rather than dropped. He even references “the end of the line.” What a dark twist on their fight.
-And Bucky is lugging around the same weapon and outfit from Infinity War.
-Because this takes place during Infinity War, they go out of their way to show as many Avengers as possible teaming up and then dying horribly. They even replicate Vision losing the Mind Stone. Thankfully Rhodey missed out!
-Hope’s situation could come from anything but strikes me as Walking Dead. Same with them running out of fuel in front of a giant zombie army. And the fact it’s a trap. And someone died for a cure.
-Giant Hope is a callback to Scott sacrificing himself in Civil War for the others to get away.
-Scott’s head in a jar is a Futurama reference.
-Vision is Wanda’s even darker parallel re: Wandavision. Feeding T’Challa to Wanda - yikes buddy!
-Scott makes a Harry Potter joke “wingardium leviosa.” He also references the song Maneater by Hall and Oates.
-“Wakanda forever!” references Black Panther and Infinity War. Okoye 😭
-Bruce telling Peter to avenge them is a reference to Tony Stark’s line in Avengers 1 “if we can’t protect the earth, you can be damn well sure we’ll avenge it.”
-T’Challa reprises his line from Civil War that death is not the end except it hurts 10000000 times more right now, Chadwick 😭😭😭
-Just like Infinity War, they lose. But this time EVERYONE dies in the end. No one survives.
Other things I didn’t catch on first watch:
-Happy’s saving himself for Thor shirt which Peter clearly made haha
-The tone leans hard on things like Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead and other comedy horror movies like What We Do in the Shadows.
-Okoye, who’s normally immaculate in her uniform, is seen with her armor scuffed and mussed.
-Okoye dunks on Happy by calling him an Uber driver ahahaha
-I kept trying to figure out Bucky’s “I should be sad but I’m not” joke and I landed on it being a meta joke on the fact that none of the characters are sad at killing their friends, they’re too busy joking about it. Which is inappropriate for our Main Timeline folks but not here in this horror comedy verse. It could even be viewed as a joke on the genre itself. BUT Sam is notably Bucky’s friend in this verse!
-“The kid has hand sanitizer?” OKOYE IS KILLING W JOKES.
-“T’Challa!”
“Bucky. Is it really you?”
“Who did this to you?”
Bring me all the T’Challa/Bucky fic!!!
Anyway, what references did I miss? :)
