oh i think about this CONSTANTLY. part of my endless difficulty with om is the timeline, tbh!! we know that the war must have happened a While Ago since (chapter 16 spoilers) lilith died long enough ago that tracing back the generations to mc was difficult and considered time consuming to barbatos, so i think we can assume at the absolute LEAST 4 generations which i think is a pretty conservative estimate (especially when considering that it was hard to tell mc even had any angel genes/soul bits/whatever in them, and the devs needed to make sure to dilute the relation hard enough that romance with the brothers wasnt made even weirder) which would place things back by around 100 years assuming the kids were always had in early 20s.

given the celestial realms (and the devildom, but more the celestial realms) seemingly mostly absent relationship with technology, i think its safe to say that the war wouldve mostly been fought with weapons closer to things like spears (since raphael still uses those), catapults and swords and so on and so forth. maybe cannonballs or more technologically advanced things, albeit powered and created through magic rather than mechanisms. fashion and uniforms im under the impression hasnt changed much in a long time, given that the brothers angel forms are considered normal to current celestial realm fashion UNLESS what we see simeon and luke and raphael be more equivalent to a formal/traditional wear/uniform as they are technically ambassadors, which means that we have no fucking clue really since traditional clothing in the human world alone can often go back to 100′s of years old designs, so theres no telling how far something might go back for beings that live near forever

THAT BEING SAID. there is nothing to say that the mentions of “time working different for demons” not being much more literal than we might assume! rather than living for exceedingly long times, i don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible for the three realms to be, well, different realms, that each operate under their own rules of time and logic - which is why plants can grow fine in a place like the devildom without a sun, and why no one seems to age. if time is just going incredibly slowly, whos to say it hasn’t close to stopped? maybe that’s why it’s always night in the devildom and day in the celestial realm? that could also offer a partial explanation to solomons longevity - sure he had the whole potion thing, but maybe spending time outside of the human realm means that he just. hasn’t aged for the time he was away. this also gives logic as to why there might not be any issue with mc being taken away for a year or so for school - time just...won’t pass for humans, relatively, and they could come back like..the next day or some equivalent. (which technically is pushing the other direction time wise, but it’s magic the rules arent exactly set in stone)

[on a minor time related complaint, in a certain flashback scene i remember it being mentioned that lillith belphegor and beelzebub were often asked to get manga from the human realm for levi, which always irritated me because unless obey me is set like...a century or more in the future, that physically wouldnt be possible, since manga as we know it and comics in general didnt really exist until the last century or two, and given the aforementioned generational thing with lilith, it...just isn’t possible. and if it’s set in the future, then simeons book series is EVEN more confusing, even if you ignore how simeon wrote things into the books that parraleled real world events that he should have had no clue about, tsl is canonically said to have 135 volumes, with the ones covered in the early chapters being only the first 7. even if we ignore that thats a stupid number of full length novels to be in a series, levi specifically mentions a 1990s theatrical adaptation and a 2015 movie. meaning that we are at least past that point and it would mean this series has been running for over a century which just wouldnt make sense given that simeon is still writing, and i dont think people would be that accepting of an author managing to continue for that long EVEN IF it’s numerous people/generations operating under the same pseudonym.]

travel i think is just the equivalent of a series of bubbles. each bubble is a realm which covers it’s own playing field, so the human world covers our known universe, but there’s occasional crossover or the possibilities for portals to be opened up to each world. the train going from the devildom to the human world is just the equivalent of driving through a train tunnel with magic as far as im concerned. i choose to treat the individual realms as the equivalent of minecraft portals. each area has its own atmosphere and nature and so on and so forth! seperate dimensions in their own right. given that the characters all make mention of needing to breathe at some point or another, i think its safe to assume that they arent in the equivalent of the centre of the earth (devildom) or up in the sky/space (celestial realm) since they also generally seem to work under similar gravity, rules of pressure and weight and so on and so forth, though again with magic in the mix its absolutely anyones guess

Are the 3 worlds apart? Are they in the same solar system? R they universes apart? How does that happen?????? How can there be 3 worlds w atmosphere and life in the same solar system (if the same)? And we traveled by TRAIN to the human world once, how the fuck does that happen?????? Space train stations?? What???

If they're connected it be more like a big world but w very distinguished continents, but that doesn't make sense since there r DIFFERENT CONSTALATIONS IN EACH OF THE 3 WORLDS

Joey should have won that duel. He should have fucking won its 2018 i still cant believe he was done dirty like that.

Joey literally saw a vision of the future where Atem tells him how he won (joey only knew he was gonna draw Gearfried because of the vision) and it should have happened. Joey beating Yami Marik and then facing Yugi would have been such a better story because:

1) It shows how far Joey has come as a character. The entirety of the Battle City arc and even waaaaay back in Duelist Kingdom he struggled to find himself as a duelist. Not to mention post battle city its implied he won his red eyes back from atem. Joey is one of the most dynamic characters in yugioh and yet we never saw any major strides of his growth. He was growing along, but there we're never any major breakthroughs or dramatic duels for him like there was in the multiple Kaiba vs Atem duels, instead he'd have a more quiet backseat role and his growth would be more implied than direct as it was for those two. Even then he manages to be such a compelling character. Im not saying he should win against Atem, but itd show how far he has come, that his struggles and experiences werent for nothing.

2)Itd settle the conflict between him and Marik better. During the duel between Joey and Yugi, Joey broke out of Mariks mind control through sheer willpower, and was continually set up against Marik not only during their own duel, but during the duel with Rishid/Odion. He survived Ra's lightning bolt to the face whereas Rishid was down for literally the entire arc up until the very end. They were set up more directly antagonistic towards eachother than Yugi/Atem and Marik were, since Marik only dueled Atem directly once(vs the mime where Atem got Slifer) and had the other duels via mindslaves who dueled independently only to leave a cryptic message from Marik himself taking control last second. Meanwhile Joey had 3 separate encounters with him close by or having a far more direct hand in the matters as opposed to sending out mindless enforcers (Being brainwashed, Vs Rishid, and then Vs Yami Marik). Mariks entire issue with Atem is that he believes him to be the pharoah who forced the tombkeepers to live so cruelly, when the real issue at hand is that Marik cant seems to forgive himself for murdering his father. Yami Marik is all of Mariks justified rage wrapped up in a nice conveniant "im an end of the world villain you must stop me!!!1!1!!" for Atem to defeat, but it would have been a much more compelling story to have Atem actually confront and talk things over with Marik and actually have him properly heal as opposed to "you sent my trauma to the shadow realm". Back to Joey, he would have been the perfect catalyst towards these events because...

3) Ra's connection to being a phoenix is one of Joeys main character traits. That he can always bounce back. He literally came back from the dead on multiple occasions. Kaiba and Atem are always seriously held back or paralyzed whenever the possibility of a loss is present, and when they do lose they have a giant disastrous spiral. Joey on the other hand can always bounce back from his losses. He doesnt get unmotivated. He doesnt lose his self worth. He continually believes in himself and keeps trying. Atem was always shackled by his "true duelist" beliefs and when he did lose later on, he did so in an ungraceful blaze of regret. When Kaiba lost his duels, he spiralled immensely, and was unable to care for himself or Mokuba. When Yami Marik(and Marik by extension) was faced with the possibility of losing, he literally almost threw up and had a breakdown. Joey is always able to pick himself back up no matter the loss. Many characters are always made to echo, parralel or foil eachother, and Joey is one of the biggest characters showing this trend. And since Yugioh is and always will be a "Power of Friendship" story, having Marik (who was tortued by his father and could never find it in himself to blame him) lose to Joey (who was abused by his father but was never able to blame himself because he understood that the situation was never his own fault) could have been way better from a character standpoint because it'd not only show Marik that his hate towards Atem and his friends was unfair, but that his own hatred and blame towards himself was never necessary, and that he could begin to heal from there. Joey even has an amicable relationship with the Ishtars afterwards when they meet up post memory world in egypt for the final duel. Joey would have absolutely supported Marik the same way he supports Yugi and Atem

like, the entire game is building up a story about the androids being an oppressed group whos enslavement and forced docility is directly beneficial to their owners(its kind of meant to be a direct parralel to the civil rights era, with slogans like "WE HAVE A DREAM" and shit, but it doesnt work and falls pretty much flat on its face because android culture was crafted by their oppressors as opposed to african american culture actively being erased. at best it could be read as a story about tools of the establishment getting class consciousness but that's sort of tenuous.), and of them slowly coming to realize they literally cannot win with words with all the decks stacked against them. not to mention the constantly alluded to war for resources in the arctic between the U.S and Russia that is constantly hinted at to be WW3 waiting to start. and all of that is resolved by just, the until now incredibly anti android president going on tv and saying "I have changed my mind. Androids are fine now. [sic] God bless the United States. [sic]." and it's over. it really feels like the writers were unable to justify a good ending in accordance to pacifism coming head to head with a government hellbent on destroying your people with whatever tools available. however, the quick time events WERE sick.

finished detroit become human today. it was okay. the political commentary was really unsubtle and disconcertingly non-understanding of any politics beyond liberal pacifism despite the story its trying to tell kind of necessitating more. but it was fun.
