The overall design is very simplistic but the shape was challenging to make because of the uneven way its belly bulges
#pokemon#crochet#amigurumi#pokemon crochet#pkmnart#art#artists on tumblr#my art#lanturn#foth#fresh off the hook#that means i just finished this one!#the first attempt was too round! should be sleek#and idk if this makes sense but its body is like if 'swim' was a shape

Weird talents Cross Guild have:
Buggy can tie a bow with his tongue. Not a simple knot, no. A perfect, pretty bow. It makes for a good party trick. (He refrains from reminding people that he can detach his tongue.)
Crocodile can read upside down and backwards, in normal speed, without trouble.
Mihawk can crochet. I know that's not a weird hobby but he can also kill someone with a crochet hook, which has to count for something.
#buggy's a man of many talents except most of them are pretty much useless#being able to use his tongue well has its advantages tho wink wink#yes mihawk has killed someone with a crochet hook before#for good reason#probably???#crocodile is a businessman and a workaholic of course he can read documents under any condition#one piece#buggy the clown#cross guild#dracule mihawk#sir crocodile

so i did end up making his silly little doily. it's not terribly difficult but i'll put what i did under the cut
chain 4, slst into first chain to create a circle
chain 3/chainless dc/stacked sc (your choice, i do chainless dc personally i think it looks best) in the ring. 11 more dc in the ring. slst into 3rd chain/first stitch
chain 1, sc in the same stitch, ch3, sc in next stitch around, slst into first sc
slst to the middle of the next space, ch1 and sc in the space. ch4 and sc into the next space all the way around
continue to repeat the previous rounds adding one chain to each space until you reach 8 chains (slst to the middle of the space, ch1 and sc in the space, chain x, sc in the next stitch around, slst into first sc)
slst one into the next space, ch3/chainless dc/stacked sc to begin the first petal, 7 more dc in the space, slst into next sc, 8dc in next space, slst into next sc around. slst into the final sc from the previous round and tie off.
#shay speaks#enstars#ensemble stars#shu itsuki#crochet#crochet lace#its not hard at all its. pretty much exactly what it looks like#i did it with crochet thread 10 metallic + 1.8mm hook but it should easily convert up#it only took me like 20 minutes to work up so have fun!#i tried doing 9 dc in the petals but that looked too overpacked. you can try it if you'd like though#my thread being metallic probably is not helping with the curling at all but it was really bad with the 9dc instead of 8

It only just clicked with this bag, which is probably bag number like 65, exactly how my ch2 functions as a stitch and how to increase with it correctly. Like I've been staring it pretty much this whole time (years !) fucking up in different ways every time.
It's still visible but it's much neater than usual and I have 2 stitches from the chain below, which is what I need for this particular base. Yay !
#crochet#crochet bag#i knit this one with an J crochet hook initially and it was tiny and stood up on its own#no idea what i was thinking#but yeah over the course of working with this particular yarn i finally fucking figured it out#again i have thought about this conundrum every single round in a every crochet circle#so thats probably at least a week if you put it together. easily#im not a quick study but hell ill figure it out anyway

Y'all want to harp on chai tea but are perfectly fine with saying crochet hook 💅
#chai in western cultures designates a specific spice blend and not all tea#just like crochet designates a hook for a specific purpose and not all hooks outside of france#its not that complicated

#toy pic post#selfies#my face#undescribed#crochet#hoping to make a cloak. great progress but long way to go#little bitty hook and thin yarn and not a tall stitch 😔#modified moss stitch? its half double instead of single crochet. and instead of crocheting in the chain space#i go in the stitch under the chain space so its not quite as holey?#yarn is living the dream alpaca farm mariquita 50% baby alpaca 50% tencel in 'atlantis'#difficult to photograph well tho my camera loves to wash it out into a muddled grey. but i think the colors look really good in person#need to find a pale neutral background to take photos against lol. it seems to mostly suffer photographically when theres other things in#frame with much deeper saturation? or if its a really dark background?

not to be FUCKING dramatic, but crochet is intuitive and logical and knitting is of the devil and feels like every step is just made up on a whim
#with crochet the difficult bit is building the muscle memory to move the hook and hold consistent tension in the yarn#but once you get that its like you can do anything#you go from beginner to extremely competent very quickly#but this knitting like. i understand how to do the knit and purl stitche#im not particularly fast but i can do the#them*#but then i go watch a youtube tutorial thats allegedly for beginning knitters and its just like.#im that meme of the woman trying to do complex math#like what the fuck are you talking about

ok well i saved the little drop-leafed cabinet on wheels (accidentally snapped the dowels and a small part of the piece that props up the leaf while i was bringing it upstairs but thats ok i can get new dowels and wood glue). it's not vented like i thought lol the slots at the top are removable plastic, possibly to organize letters/cds? anyway all my crochet stuff fit inside perfectly and i am so stoked
#previously everything was just in uhh. crocheted bags under my bed#and all my hooks and other tools loose in a zippered canvas bag. was a horrible system. this is a major upgrade#i want to paint the whole thing and replace the pulls but. its ok looking as is

artistsssss please tell me a small detail or part of the process that you really especially enjoy doing
i really enjoy painting abs and draped fabric, personally
#and if we're talking knitting#i really like knitting stockinette flat so that i can knit left and right handed#i LOVE knitting garter stitch flat#its meditative. trance like. very good.#i also really love knitting with specifically 10mm knitting needles#but 7mm is my favorite size for any tool bc it is rare. 💛#i am happy to say i have multiple 7mm knitting needles AND crochet hooks#you have to get the cheap off brand stuff to get 7mm tools for some reason#the brand names always jump from 6.5 to 8. i hate it#there isnt enough nuance there !!!#sometimes i need a 7 to make gauge !!!

Anyone have any advice for steam / sray blocking yarn that's dry clean only?? In my infinite wisdom I never checked the care tags till I was half way done this project, and now I've a v curly patchwork tunisian crochet sweater with some dry clean only yarn interspersed with hand wash only 100% wool. I was planning on spray blocking anyway but now I'm concerned lol
The yarn is 70% wool, 15% alpaca, 15% silk if that makes a difference (I assume the dry cleaning is for the colours, as I've never had a blend like this that needed that care before!!)

me when i plan out a sweater in tunisian crochet in a faux knit stitch (bc i dont know how to knit but love the look of knit color work) at a certain size from my gauge swatch but i decide tunisian crochet is too hard so i just actually learn how to knit instead. and have to redesign my sweater pattern at a different size bc the stitch sizes are completely different on the gauge swatches from tunisian crochet knit st to actual knit. anyways. bye forever
#RRAAAHHHHH FIBER ARTS DILEMMAS!!!!!!#just kidding it’s fine#cro talks#knit#crochet#AND. knit ends up being a lot thinner than the tunisian knit stitch. so it’ll be a more comfortable sweater tbh#but this is about my brain/sciencecore sweater. sobs and throws up#but its ok i realized i had more repeating motifs i wanted to include besides just DNA and test tubes. like lightning! and more#and i think knit gives me more space to work#also the reason tunisian crochet was too hard is that A) i dont have a tunisian crochet hook so i had to improv one out of straws and duct—#tape. and it was not very good.#and and color work is generally harder in tunisian crochet#but i literally didnt know how to knit until 2 days ago when i decided i could do it. and then i did it

Amigurumi sure is a process.
Behold, the most miserable looking little guy, I guess?
This is a penguin, if anyone was wondering.
#the left eye: trying its best#the right eye: trying#listen it's been a while since i picked up a hook and some yarn#and anyway amigurumi/crochet are all about learning from mistakes right??#i desperately need to work on my tension while doing a slanted color change and also maybe get those safety eyes

out of curiosity, how long does it generally take to design a pattern? like, crochet, knitting, sewing, any of it, really. i've tossed around a bunch directly from my brain but due to The AuDHD i never really ever had a concrete moment of sitting down and intentionally putting together a pattern. i mostly just wing it whenever the urge hits me. fun in theory and in practice, but not a great way to time the creative process lmao
i need to know for uh. reasons. like how long is a reasonable time period to gather crafters together online for charity-related reasons and ask them to come up with something new. those kinds of reasons
#rosie babbles#textiles#crochet#knitting#sewing#tatting#embroidery#i'm also kind of testing the waters a bit. the idea of doing a 'fandom zine collab' (except instead of 'fandom' it's 'crafters' and instead#of 'zine' it's 'pattern book') for charity has its hooks in me but i want to go into this Prepared#heck maybe i can bust out the old sweater-vests and see if i can reverse-engineer the pattern i came up with on the fly like 8 yesrs ago
