Girlymatsu-san!!
Aaa I had sm fun drawing this and couldn't wait to post it!! I love girls
Some design notes for nerds under the read more!
Osoko
Her overall shape is mostly inspired by her hair shape, so lots of curves and circles
She was the easiet design for me to recreate in my style and I love her for that
I wanted to give each Girlymatsu a lil detail that nods back to the original Matsus (since Karako and Ichiko have pretty obvious ones) so I figured a lil red pin badge would suit Osoko's business suit, plus it brings a lil more red into her overall design
Looking at it now, I feel like i should have made her heels red
Karako
Mostly rectangular with pointy edges, she's a sporty gal so I wanted her to look like she had a bit more muscle on her (at least compared to the others)
Probably the 2nd hardest design to recreate in my style! I wanted her to look more top heavy; wider shoulders and bigger bust. Ended up looking at Danny Phantom, Clone High and Total Drama Island for references
I changed her jeans and heels to sweatpants and sneakers. I just felt like they didn't suit the overall sillhoutte
She's the second tallest of the group
Choroko
Her overall shape is a mix of straight lines and circles
I didn't really know how to shove a Matsu into her design. I thought about maybe stickers on her luggage bag or a pine on her fan but those aren't really part of Her, yknow? In the end I just decided that the lil parts in her hair formed the letter M and left it at that
Ichiko
Fell in love with an emo girl
Obviously her long hair takes up most of her sillhoutte. Very Stocking Anarchy reminiscent
Her hair covers one eye now, it just felt appropriate. Plus iirc in the anime she has a lil quirk of pulling her hair behind her ear
She is a classy lady so I gave her pearl accessories
Joan of Arc lookin forehead
Jysuhiko
Big hair was the focus
I had the most fun recreating her in my style! She's just so fun
Her bracelets and earring are Matsu coloured!!
You can't really tell here but I picture her being the tallest of the group
Todoko
Imma be real, I don't like Todomatsu and most things related to him, so I kinda halfassed Todoko's design
The hardest one for me to recreate by virtue of me not wantinf to spend too long on her
She is mostly circles, because circles are cute and that's like her whole thing I guess
Her skirt has 6 ruffles, that was the only Matsu motif I could give her
Sorry Todo enjoyers

Besides your most recent drawing of Melanie King being based on Joan of Arc (Absolutely lovely [in the old British man TikTok voice] did you have any other inspiration for the drawing? [It reminded me of your The fool Archivist Commission]).
General female knight imagery, I knew I wanted the weapon to cover her eye, which is a common sword pose
I also tried to mimic the armour look with British punk fashion, broader shoulder and a bulky fit
A leather jacked was a great juxtaposition between the styles
This hand:
is a blessing hand, something saints and prophets are depicted with. Also we got the halo but with swords (St. Catherin, Joan of Arc's sword, which is also around her neck/ a patch on her jacket/ slaughter reference)
And I'm not the one to add buttons to characters to show her identity; however, Melanie is punk, and custom in that scene, so I added lesbian flag, what the ghost pin and Joan of Arc from Clone High (I ran out of Joan of Arc references)
I agree it looks a little like a card with the white frame and name, but I was going for this mediaeval Saint style with the layout!
thanks for asking a lot goes into it, and it's really fun finding Easter eggs to add
#never ask me about my research because I won't shut up about it then#melanie king#im planning on one for georgie too just gotta find me a saint#the magnus archives#tma#mag

have you seen flake's new browser game? where you submit your high score and be in with a chance to win a bundle signed by him?
it's so similar, maybe even identical conceptually to a similar competition rammstein held way back in the windows 95 era of computing. (a time i didn't experience because i was born in '05 haha, still love it tho!)
from what i've deciphered, reading and translating the readme file included in the zip, they ran a competition where you played a game, emailed your high score, and then if it was high enough, be entered into a draw to win prizes. the date shown on the .exe file is the 10th of november 1997, almost 2 months after sehnsucht's release. i think one of the prizes was a copy of sehnsucht.
this is a piece of rammstein media and history i feel goes overlooked in the fandom. as an aspiring game developer myself, it's so interesting to see what pieces of interactive media were available. granted, they were promos, but fun promos. i hope to add to the library myself, even if they're independently made (though if i got to create a game for r+ i think i would die happy jdkdskfs)
that's all i wanted to say. i love your longform posts about rammstein albums and thought you'd appreciate some info about a different part of r+ history. i'm definitely going to continue researching it. and if anyone's reading this, you can find the game and a load of digital rammstein goodies here, including a benzin flash game and some e-cards!
Hi and thank you so much for your message!
I came across Flake's little game in his newest Instagram post:

and tried it out for a bit! It took me a while to understand that I'm not supposed to collect the gifts but actually avoid them, and I'm not very good with games like this 😅 But it's fun! Here's a little impression of it:
I've heard about the PC game which accompanied the release of the single "Das Model" and was on the retail copies of the single. Here's what the rammwiki website (a bible for me at this point, I'm so thankful for this incredibly well researched, endless source of information) writes about the different levels:
The game itself is split across three levels, all also divided in to three separate platforms each. The first is a subterranean cavern, populated with water monsters and apache helicopters.
The second is a concert venue, populated with cockroaches, flying robots and floating sex dolls.
The third level is the beach from the artwork of Sehnsucht. This level is populated by an aggressive clone of the player, sea urchins, falling barrels of toxic chemicals, and a monster disguised as a flirtatious woman.
Here's a little walk through - very 90's in style and sound 😄
youtube
Thank you very much for sharing your professional insight on this, and reminding me of this game! Would've loved to play it too, but since I was only 3 years old at the time, well... my parents, who were right in the target/age group for Rammstein, didn't play it either, were too caught up in Lara Croft 😅
And thanks a lot for your appreciation, I'm glad that you find joy in my little posts 🤍
#lovely mutuals sending bomb ass information i love this#thanks a lot for your massage!!#to live in an era where we can play Flake as a little Santa in a little game. a dream#rammstein#flake lorenz#gaming#ask#research & rammsplaining#lovely mutuals 💜

How old are you?? What made you decide to dip your toe into animation?
As of now (2023) I'm 26 years old, next birthday is on January 24. 😁
Also great question! I'll go a little more in-depth below if anyone's interested. 😊
I've been interested in animation, art & story-telling in general ever since I could think! Starting with drawing & crafting a LOT in kindergarten & making flipbook & stopmotion/brickfilm animations in elementary school. Eventually got into shooting fun little shortfilms with friends & adding visual effects to them (those films were WEIRD, but soo fun to make! 😄).
That got me more & more into 3d animation as a hobby which turned into a career once I finished school & started a 3 year apprenticeship as audio-visual media designer at an advertising agency (I was 16 back then). After that I worked there part-time as 3d generalist for 3 more years while starting to freelance on the side. Eventually made the jump to full-time freelancing & that's what I've been doing the past 4 years.
Love the creative freedom of often times being booked as "one man studio" by my clients & the variety of projects is fun! Advertising has to move fast & you're never stuck with one project for too long.
Being a freelancer also makes it possible for projects like Tukk Tales: The Rescue to happen, because I get to chose what I want to work on & when I want to work on passion projects (as long as I'm not broke lol).
And of course one of the biggest sources of inspiration & motivation throughout this journey was our beloved Wars in the Stars! ⭐⭐ I've been a Star Wars fan ever since elementary school & been drawing characters from it constantly, especially droids & clones. And then came THE CLONE WARS! I don't think I would've followed through actually teaching myself how to use 3d software back in 2008 if I hadn't seen the Clone Wars movie around that time. A full-CG, stylized show with my favorite characters in my favorite era? Sign me up! I was so intrigued by how a show like that was made, I HAD to find out!
If you have seen my Youtube channel, there are still some The Clone Wars animation videos on there, from back when I just started learning how to use the 3d software Blender: https://www.youtube.com/@HighGroundAnimations/videos
So The Clone Wars kept me going, inspired me to learn this, to be able to create my own scenes from that universe. But then, eventually you want to grow beyond that, so I wanted to try other styles, other ideas & especially once I started working, I just didn't have as much time for personal "fun" projects anymore. So very little Clone Wars from now on. Fast forward a couple of years, it's the pandemic & the perfect time to go back into hobbies! The animated Star Wars shows have progressed & met a new bar of quality with Clone Wars season 7. What an inspiration! I really wanted to try & see what I could do with all the skills & knowledge I had accumulated since last time & a project like that seemed like a great chance to further strengthen my skills as generalist. So that's when I started again, December 2020 & the name High Ground Animations was born, along with a dedicated Instagram, a renamed Youtube channel & more. No Captain Tukk yet, or any plans for a shortfilm, all that developed during the many months after that. But I've been at it again ever since & there are no plans for stopping anytime soon! 🤘

Still extremely appalled that ppl decide to go on anon and tell you to kys cause you draw Ezekiel the way you do
Wholeheartedly believe in frolicking in fields instead of hating like a pathetic little worm in a worm cave.
I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they have some unresolved issues with other fandoms femenizing and infantilizing their characters for… not so savoury reasons (cough cough Kokichi Ouma from danganronpa) but obviously this is tasteful and for fun so idk why they’re STILL at you for it.
Like me personally I mostly stick to canon but I do beef up Ezekiel a little bit because as a kid who grew up on a farm farm kids and farm boys especially are disproportionately stronger than they look. (I also do like to give him his tummy back ppl weirdly like to “forget” it) but I don’t block you or tell you to kys cause your version is diff to mine lmao, what is this Steven universe? No this is total drama dipshits if you want to draw them in any style that isn’t some clone high adjacent style you have to draw them wildly off model live and let live draw Ezekiel in the “canon” way and let ppl have their little squishy guy
Tl;dr ur chill lets play kitty cats outside

So @professorlehnsherr-almashy did our family time call today and played a version of the game Heartthrob that he put together using some fandoms! Characters from Doctor Who, The Terror, Hornblower, Psychoville, Six Idiots productions, a few favorites from Jane Austin, The League of Gentlemen, What We Do in Shadows, and some rogue favorite characters!
Basically the game is that you draw 3 characters and then draw 2 red flags for each character to have.
You then have to guess who the other person will date/marry and choose one yourself.
Here are the results of the game!
--------------------------
Lee had to marry Pat(BBC Ghosts) for the tax break
Both Lee and Hannah married Lt. Bush(Hornblower)
Both married Ainley!Master
Both married the 13th Doctor
Hannah married Phillip 2nd of Spain(Bill) and because Hannah the 1st of Spain
Lee will date Nandor(WWDS) and be Leto the first of Nandor's country(that ibcant spell I'm so sorry)
Both married Jamie McCrimmon because he does wax sealed love letters
Both married Jeremy (Psychoville) who is wanted in every state except Florida because Florida doesn't want him and he also dives for sunken treasure @fandomsmeantheworldtome (these were Jeremy's red flags and I died🤣)
Both dating/married Eric!Master(Doctor Who)
Married Stella(TLOG) but she refuses to wash her hands and is a serial killer(but the serial killer part isn't the bad part)
Both married Negatus who speaks only in foreign language accent and has a secret stash of frog porn(which could mean anything in Yonderland honestly)
Both dating/marry Harry Goodsir(The Terror)
Both married Mr. Blanky for both of us even though he melts if he gets wet and dabbles in torture.
Lee married Lancelot(King Arthur 2004) who eats pineapple on pizza and is jealous of Lee's cats.
Hannah marries Geoff(TLOG) who is super clingy and is a vampire(and not the sexy kind)🤣🤣🤣 @almost-born-in-1893
I marry all four Georges(Horrible Histories)
Leto marries FitzJames:

Both married Aelestan (Vikings)
Both marriedbDhawan!Master and Hannah finally succumbs to Satan's temptations.
Leto marries Lee(8th Doctor Companion) who owns the British Maritime Museum
Hannah married Styles(Hornblower) who writes erotic fanfiction and loves olives(there's no lie here🤣🤣🤣)
Prince Phillipe(Versailes) Collects humans skulls. Lee: I'm going to marry him faster!
The Google spinning wheel decided High Denis(Taskmaster) but Hannah decided Clara(Doctor Who) for Lee to marry because those two on the Tardis with a bunch of kids is too cute.
Both married George IV(Horrible Histories) who is a serial killer and has an unlimited amount of cheese.
Both married Lazlo(WWDS) because Guillermo was secretly Lee's clone.
Both married Nadjia(WWDS) who can't remember your name and spends more time in horny jail than with you.
*Highlight: Lee managed to pull Horatio, Cotard, and Pellew for one round*(Hornblower) and Hannah is dating Cotard and Lee married Horatio.
For the final round we had four candidates:
Elder Vex(Yonderland), Jenny (RRR), Marianne(Sense and Sensibility), and Romana II(Doctor Who)
Elder Vex eats crayons and ends every conversation with "you're dismissed."(which sounds right) Jenny has a dozen kids from a dozen partners and has a pet boa constrictor
Final Round: Lee married Jenny & Marianne
Hannah married Jenny & Vex
Random funny photos I took:

This was so fun and thank you everyone who reads all of these and I hope you enjoy it!!🥰🥰🥰

Hi👋
I remember somewhere you said you’re very visual about your writing process which is why Jake’s stupid moustache had to go.
Does that mean you have fancasts?
:D ! Y'all ask me such great questions :D
The short answer to this question is 80% of the time no jalksdf. The fics I've been writing lately (comics, Moon Knight) are already a visual medium, so obviously I do just kind of use what the characters actually look like in the comic I most strongly identify with them or the TV show. In the end everything sorts out into a really generic mental animation style that's not really anything in particular. The longer answer is that I fucking WISH I did because my actual lifestyle gets so fucking messy. Like all of this actually severely really bothers me nonstop.
Because so much of what I write is multimedia I can't just play the OG work in my brain. Hey, do the other SW writers who think visually have the problem of like - so Obi-Wan in your mind is live action from ROTS, but Ahsoka is CGI from TCW, and Anakin is either live action ROTS or cartooney if he's younger than 19, and the clones are simultaneously live action Jango Fett and CGI clones and it makes it KINDA hard to visualize things? And the exact same issue when writing comic fics with a cast that is half live action and half cartooney in your brain? Like, am I the only one with this issue?!
It is so problematic for the new story bc of 3 different works with so many different art styles. Mr. Knives Trigun has a highly stylized 90s anime appearance that I don't think of him as, and a super realistic modern CGI appearance with which is how I think of the character, except none of that works for MY Knives, and obviously Millie is 90s anime, and Meryl is some sort of demented mix, Brad & Luida are 300% CGI, and Wolfwood is fucking impossible since he's from one hyper-super stylized woodcut-ass flashback of the CGI anime and AGH. Imagine new Knives Trigun as the 'I'm a healer but' meme guy because that's all I can fucking give you.
Again like this like 'Meg is this an actual problem you have when writing Star Wars, Comics, and Trigun' and the answer is that it's a BIG PROBLEM that BUGS ME. How the fuck do you guys live??? Is this just me?!?!
In brighter but equally uselessly complicated news, New Wave was more complicated since everybody was really specifically designed in my mind in a specific animation style and since I can't draw Y'all Will Never Know it. Obviously it was very 00s animation - you can really safely imagine Bruce as himself from the 00s Batman cartoon. I really liked how much sleeker and skinnier and younger he looks in that design! Steph has the BIG hair from her first Robin arc and Tim has Jake Animorph style Generic 90s Relatable Teen Boy visuals.
Sorry that's not a very fun answer and also not a very real answer :( Fancasts that I do genuinely have is, obviously, all for TMA:
Tim Stoker as a younger, sprucier, Daniel Dae Kim.
Daisy as Kristen Bell.
Elias as Marc Evan Jackson.
Annabelle Cane from Sucker's Bet is a mix of Jadah Marie and my friend from high school, which is unhelpful to you.
Teen Gerry was the kid from Monster Allergy. Yeah really.
Martin as That One Fanart My Friend Drew Of My Martin.
And. Obviously. Jon as That One Fanart My Friend Drew Of My Jon That Just Made Me Go Oh That's Jon Now OK.
(Think of Standard Fanart Basira and that's my Basira. Sasha, Georgie, and Melanie are just more generally designed by my brain.)
Do YOU want to design one of my characters permanently in my brain forever. Just draw nice fanart of them. It's that easy. I'll look at it and go 'oh this is what they look like' and that'll be what they look like in my head, forever, and ever. I promise it'll work.
#id post the fanart but id want my friends permission real fast#wish i could draw so bad.#my asks#my writing

I've talked about the good, I've talked about the bad, but now it's time to talk about the perfectly serviceable. The third game I've played recently, Nexomon, has been completed. I have thoughts.
Unlike with Triangle Strategy, where I ended on "This is a very distinct game from Three Houses, comparisons aren't entirely fair," this game is a Pokemon clone. Like, yes, I know Pokemon is not the only monster catching game, there are plenty of general rules set before them. But the healing center is just a Pokemon Center down to everything's positioning, teams are of six and format is 1v1, and by the time you realize there's a Nexolord, four Champions, and eight Overseers, you start to raise some eyebrows. I feel like the question is less about what tier of legally distinct this game is operating on, but how engaging the game is on its own merits. So while comparison to Pokemon will happen for the point of drawing understanding, I don't plan to harp on this.
Nexomon is decently fun. The monster designs are a mix of pretty cute stuff to your more standard hulking monster things, with the usual issue I take of "all the strong stuff is hulking monster stuff." Almost nothing that's high cute is statistically good. Exploration of the map is decent, and catch mechanics are fairly smooth. It's the usual "lower HP and inflict a status to ease capture," but it feels like better odds than Pokemon. I never felt like I was wasting 20+ Ultra Balls for nothing. On a similar scale, Golden Nexotraps are equivalent to Master Balls, and they are plentiful. I worried about using too many and not being able to just catch the legends, but barring "always make sure you have one in case of Luhava," there are so many in just the main game you won't run out, and postgame absolutely showers you with them. It makes it a lot easier to manage, even if I ended the game with like 40 of them because I didn't know this and hoarded. Don't be like me.
Encounters are random, and that comes with the usual frustrations of not finding the rare stuff in like an hour of searching. It's especially egregious because this game gets super granular. The specific patches of grass have different possible encounter tables, and there are several situations where the first stage of an evolutionary line exists in one (1) patch of grass on one (1) screen, and literally nowhere else. It's too much.
I'd also be willing to argue there are just too many monsters. 310 is a lot for a game with only seven types. There's really not that much room for variance, and the variance they do have is...not always good. This game lacks Pokemons EVs, natures, or TMs. Two of the same Nexomon at the same level are functionally identical, there is no difference between them. What separates things out is between species, and is a factor of Stats, Moveset, and Type.
There are, as stated, only seven types. Each of them has two Very Effective and Not Effective matchups. The offensive and defensive alignment is reciprocal. For example, Water is good against Fire and Mineral. This means that Water attacks deal 50% more to Fire and Mineral, while Fire and Mineral attacks deal 50% less to a Water. It makes the type chart a lot easier to comprehend, and results in perfect balance. Well. Barring some main game meta considerations, where Wind gets absolutely hosed late-game with major bosses having no types Wind is strong against, but both of Wind's weaknesses. But it is balanced. Normal is the odd one out, being neither strong against nor weak to anything. My final stance on Normal is that they're a pain. They're excellent in enemy hands where it's hard to one-shot them, but in your hands they tend to lack firepower to one-shot an opponent and get trucked. The game operates on an odd mechanic, where if you get a KO, the next thing the opponent sends out gets to attack you right away. It's good for preventing a Pokemon-style clean sweep, but also means that rotating your Nexomon in battle is essential, and Normal having no resists makes them harder to get in. I came away not loving Normal.
Moveset is simple. What you learn is what you learn, there is no deviation. This is, to me, what hurts most. Rarity is a thing in this game. It will tell you what you found is Common, Uncommon, Rare, Mega Rare, Special, or Legendary. Each step up is generally statistically superior (barring some exceptions), and generally has better moves. The big aim is the ultimate moves, with 90% accuracy and base 95 power. Mega Rare, Special, and Legendary get these reliably. Anything else has to pray, and usually gets stuck around 70. Which is serviceable, but you notice the lack of power from lower stats and lower move damage. The big contributor, then, to a lower-tier Nexomon's performance is status. Status is kind in this game. If you can land a confuse, congrats and trucking literally any boss. Even lesser status like sleep, freeze, paralysis, and bind are devastating, stopping an opponent's movement completely. Poison and Burn suck, but what can you do. Acquisition of good moves helps or hinders severely. One Nexomon I loved by design, Emperabee, wound up getting benched because its strongest on-type move...was base 55. It couldn't one-shot random Uncommon encounters 10 levels below it. And that's a major problem. On the flip side, some really good stat stuff is bad because of lack of access. Jeeta, my starter, only has Electric moves. It has no strong Normal move, so it gets hard walled by its weaknesses. Meanwhile the Mega Rare bird has Tornado, which is strong against both weaknesses, making it objectively better. I think if I'd want anything cleaned up, it'd be this moveset issue. At a minimum, anything that rare should be getting a neutral move.
Stats are harder to parse, because they matter, but not how you think. Damage in this game is high. It is not uncommon for battles to be won in two shots, regardless of move strength. Even Tackle will get good mileage. The transition, then, is from a two-shot to a one-shot. If you can't one-shot anyway, a stronger move isn't meaningful, it's just more stamina. As a result, only the Mega Rare and above tend to be functionally any different offensively. Rather, defensively is the problem. Common and Uncommons get absolutely trucked by every attack. Even resists put on a serious dent. Rare and above tends to be a lot more durable, and it's that distinction that matters most in trainer battles. Again, you rotate Nexomon a lot, so taking hits is significantly important. If you can't take hits, and you can't one-shot, you're more likely to drop before you finish a job. And it's a shame, because a lot of my favorite designs were Uncommons.
There are exceptions. Monolix, my beloved weirdo mineral beast, has better stats than Arctivore, the Mega rare, and access to both a strong neutral which Arctivore lacks, and the same top damage Mineral attack. Its distinction is lack of any status. And this is a serious consideration, given the impact status has.
I say all this to point out, it's an interesting system, but they do telegraph really strongly what's viable and what isn't. Not that you can't win with commons and uncommons, but it's going to be a much, much tougher time. I think its lack of customization compared to Pokemon is really the deciding factor. When you have an uncommon that's statistically inferior and has no real access to a good status-inflicting damage move, they're basically useless. There's no serious function to some of these, and no means of pulling them up out of those trenches.
...which is still true of Pokemon. Some options just suck ass regardless of what you do. You can still win, but it's still an uphill battle. The positive spin is the lack of Snadslash Factor, which is what I call the Pokemon phenomenon of "What the fuck do you mean this thing doesn't naturally learn any moves of its type?" Sandslash's only naturally learned Ground move was the useless Sand Tomb until Generation fucking six. Nexomon does not have this problem. You may not get the best move, but you usually get a good move in your type. Nothing is relegated to that nonsense, and nothing has to wait too long for something of its element. In this way, I think it is much improved.
If there are problems with Nexomon as a game, I would say it's a twofold issue of its lowly origins, and being insincere at times.
By lowly origins, I mean this started as a microtransaction phone game and it shows. The clear delineation of rarity being equivalent to performance, but with specific super rare things you can't obtain naturally having advantage is very in line with that kind of game. The lack of customization, just get a better thing, is also very in line. While I wound up liking the Netherworld, it is insanely funny to look something up and be greeted by "Yeah the EXP Share and EXP Boost were purchasable items you got to use for like a day at a time and then had to re-buy." Suddenly that whole zone resetting you to level 5 makes a lot more sense. They're trying to sell microtransactions. That whole sequence goes at a decent pace with the items permanently on, but I admit it's more grinding work than I'd otherwise appreciate, especially transitioning into the Warden encounters. There are just some decisions that feel like they're birthed from the kind of game this started as, and while it's never a gamebreaker, it does make me hopeful about its sequel game, which I am assuming does not have the same origins.
Insincerity requires talking about what I haven't mentioned yet: story and characters. Overall, the story is not exceptional, but I wound up being charmed well enough. It's decent light-hearted fun. I think the Nexolord himself goes under-utilized, but the children of Omnicron are great fun, and many of the Overseers are entertaining. My dilemma has less to do with the characters or the direction of its story, so much as its tone and some attempts at humor.
This game does not take itself too seriously, and aims to be funny more than anything. It can succeed pretty well at it too! But there are some jokes that go beyond what I think they want to aim for. Specifically, any fourth-wall-breaking jokes tend to be more of a groan than a giggle.
For example: there is a sequence where your ship is attacked and capsized. In the leadup, the character responsible shows up, angrily proclaiming their revenge, and your robot companion Atlas asks if this is about them being mad about losing at volleyball, which sets them off. That part's decently funny; it's a bit of wit that flows well and feels organic. But when the ship is sunk, you wake up on shore, and your mentor's ghost wakes you up and tells you "All of your allies mysteriously survived, otherwise this game would have a much higher rating." And that's kinda what I mean.
The game pokes fun at certain cliches, while pulling them off verbatim. And it doesn't land as a haha funny when you play the trope straight. Commenting that having to do a specific quest is just padding out the game doesn't make me laugh, it makes me go "then why the fuck did you do it?" If you knew it sucked, why'd you do it? A short quip about it isn't offsetting the fact you're still doing it unironically, and that it is bad. Some of these meta jokes can land because they're not bringing attention to a dumb thing. Like at one point, a character asks if you're okay, and Atlas goes "We were just attacked by a boss with 9999 HP, how do you think?" It's an unwinnable fight for cinematic purposes, but because it's not an annoying video-gamey trope, that one gets to feel more like a bit of meta humor than annoying.
My point is really that at times, it feels like the game doesn't respect what it is based on these jokes. Joking about a cliche or an annoying trope and doing it anyway isn't really humorous, and if you're going to do it anyway probably best to just play that part straight. You can be legitimately funny, but it feels at times like you're trying to paper over lack of a creative task or obstacle with self-effacing humor and it doesn't work out so well.
To give cast its own time: Nadine is my favorite, I have a type. I really liked Merida, she feels like a poster child for failgirl. Overseer Ivan is a good comedic character. I actually really respect that Juliet's thing is being in love with the Nexolord and mad he chose another girl as overseer, going so far that when someone calls her crazy for this, she just goes "So is he! We're perfect for each other!" Respect that hustle, girl. I don't particularly like...uh...the guy who last beat the Nexolord. Ulzar! That guy. He's not particularly interesting on his own merits, but I do like the twist he posits when you meet him.
Spoiler content for story: I think how they play Nexomon's nature and what all of this is, is fairly interesting. They're all descended from Omnicron, and thus can all be driven to cruelty by its whims, leading the midgame swerve to be "You cannot trust your pets, they'll turn on you." You still win with the power of friendship, but despite how abrupt that is, it's still neat. Defeating Omnicron and being told that destroying it for good will mean all Nexomon die with it is cool, and sets itself up well for the sequel. I also do have to applaud the Netherworld segment. I won't go into detail because that one's legitimately a good spin, but the way they play with what happened is honestly pretty cool. That said, I do wish we got a little more of the Children of Omnicron. I know how things shake out justify it a bit, but I was really hoping their re-appearance would result in a bit more development of who they are as people. Or at least the Nexolord doing like. Anything.
My final verdict is I could comfortably recommend this game, but with some caveats. I think it is a very fun time, and a decently developed game, albeit with some aspects that don't always land. It's decently paced, it has some cute and cool monster dudes, the story and cast are serviceable. I had a decent time. We did get Extinction as part of a bundle deal, so that's up next. This is more my wife's game though, she wanted to play it, so I'm waiting for her to start it up before I get going. Stay tuned.
#nexomon#the intro makes it sound like I’m less positive about this game than I am#some things aren’t ideal but I did have a legitimately good time

WEEK 6 SCULPTING
This week we actually did something in Blender I had experience in! I've sculpted a couple of busts before on my ipad, never on Blender, but I found a lot of the mechanics passed over to sculpting in Blender. I'm not very experienced, but I felt far more confident in my skills than I did modelling. I started sculpting a human head in class, (but textured it later) then Mike suggested sculpting a monster to get a better feel of the sculpting tools. I decided to sculpt a character from a pervious project, my werewolf character, Norm. I thought his elongated face would be visually interesting and yet still easy enough to sculpt.
Outside of class, I wanted to challenge myself, so I attempted to sculpt and texture my character Odhran. I like how I structured his face and hair, but I think I've done a bit of a poor job elsewhere. I struggle with the more technical aspects like the topology of the model and UV unwrapping for textures.
CHARACTER DESIGN FOR HOMEWORK
I was so excited to find out what this weeks homework is, I already love Genndy Tartakovsky's work, so any excuse to work in his style is great for me. His style/character design work basically defined an era of animation in the late 90's to 2000's, shifting the popular design ethos from the more rounded, Hanna Barbera style to his more abstract and angular one. You can clearly see in animation like Kim Possible, Clone High and Danny Phantom the influence of his style. Tartakovsky's character design focuses strongly on the shape language of characters and the lines, especially the thick outlines the characters, like in Dexter's Lab, or complete lack of lines, like in Samurai Jack. I feel my own style is already quite similar to Tartakosky's, as I take a lot of inspiration from cartoons from that era, but that doesn't mean this task was particularly easy for me.
In Hotel Transilyania, characters are often based on two tropes or character concepts, the monster they're based on, then their character trope. Take the Wolfman for instance, his design both conveys that he's a werewolf, and a tired father.
I wanted to make my design clear and readable in this way, so I chose two concepts which I felt would be easily readable to the viewer - a fishman and mobster. I felt this could also be a fun play on words, "sleeping with the fishes" could have two meanings for this character. I also though "concrete shoes" would be an interesting, yet simple prop for this character, a bit of a playful dark element to his design, which Tartakovsky often uses in his own work.
I made 3 headshots of the same character to work off of, chose 2 and continued working from there. I like this character concept, but I feel it needs to be more eye-catching.
My initial design, developed off of the second of the three busts above. When I felt like I narrowed it down to a good enough design, I then made another drawing, more in Tartakovsky's style - with simple geometric shapes and bright saturated, blocky colours. Tartakovsky often simplifies his characters down into a few simple shapes to make their character clear. For instance, in Dexter's Lab, Dexter is made up of mostly square shapes with sharp edges, to show his serious and mean personality, while his sister and his foil, Dee Dee is made up of rounded, softer shapes to contrast Dexter and show her lighter personality. This is something I kept in mind when I designed this character - I wanted to give him blocky shapes to make him look large and intimidating, while also giving him skinny lanky legs, making him top-heavy and making him look unreliable and strange. I also rounded his shoulders to give him more of a hunched look. I didn't want him to look heroic, which is often associated with more blocky, square shape language, so throwing in more contrasting elements, like sloped shoulders and lanky legs, throws this perception off. This is the design I'll be basing my model off of.

OMG yass totally nautral question i didnt ask for on a the phone!!
Their oldest son is named Jäsper. He was found as the only egg left on a small, abandoned black commet above Holoska by Sonic when investigating the threat. The egg fed off Sonic's chaos energy accidentally and basically created a black arms clone of Sonic which was adopted by Sonic and Shadow.
-Jäsper's name comes from a noise he made when hatching that sounded a little like the Holoskan name Jäsper, but actually meant Hunger.
-Jäsper has memories from the black arms hivemind and occasionally says extremely conserning things to his dads; one of them being that he really wants to try human flesh because he 'knows he'd like it'.
-He actually has no murderous intention or other desire to kill and eat humans, the theory is his black arms tendencies were neatralised by Sonic's energy. He does however have a diet of solely raw fish as all other food makes him sick.
-He grows at 2x the rate of a normal mobian and is taller than Sonic and Shafow by 10 years old. As a full grown adult he is 6'5 (Sonic and Shadow being about 3ft3)
- Appearance wise he is simlar to Eclipse and Shadow, but more lizard-like. He's black with red/black quills on his head. He has a vertical third eye on his forehead and a long venemous tail that he has to wear protective armour over to avoid accidentally hurting anyone. He grew spikes over his back but they fell off around age 6, i guess similar to quilling in hedgehogs.
- Despite being quirky and a bit freaky he is very gentle. He can get bursts of energy and become very hyperactive but in general he's a lot more deadpan and serious like Shadow.
Their second child is named Maria. She was created intentionally by merging Sonic and Shadow's dna like...idk test tube baby stuff don't think about it too hard
-She is a standard mobian hedgehog and not as alien as her brother. She is very mischievous and naughty, which is always fun as she possess high speed and the ability to chaos control when only in proximity to a chaos emerald. This is banned by her dads though as it does pretty much knock her out afterwards and theyre unsure of how dangerous it is.
- She can be a total sweetheart. She loves nature especially picking flowers and paddling in ponds and lakes.
- She is a trouble maker at school and gets into fights often (and wins) but she's also known for bragging about scary alien brother and making him out to be a horrifying beast so people will leave her alone.
- Appearance wise she is dark purple with a mix of pastel and white quills which are unusually curly. She has a white outline around her eyes in the same style as Shadow and a white fluffy tummy. She's pretty tiny (in my au she's only about 3 atm) She usually wears overalls or shorts
Anyway theres what i've been thinking about and drawing all day. I am too self conscious to share the pics lol
does anyone want to hear about my fucked up little sonadow fankids
#sonic future au#idk i'll find a better name later#sonic#sonic headcanons#sonadow fankids#sonadow#sonic the hedgehog
