Out of all the posts I've been seeing on Tiktok regarding the "can trans men identify as lesbians" debate, posts like this really make me want to blow up my phone.

I've seen multiple videos of people (usually younger/newly out folk) claiming that "queer/trans history doesn't matter because XYZ" and yes I'm biased as a historian but this is such an immature and asinine thing to argue.

As trans people, the reason you have the rights and visibility that you have now is because of our extensive history. Lesbians, trans men, and transmasc people have been linked together for centuries.

Our language has evolved, but people have remained largely the same. The only real difference is that we have new words and terms to describe our unique (and QUEER) experiences.

Trans guys in the 1700/1800s were called "female husbands" and were often times married to cisgender woman-lovers*. Their identity was not invalidated as they were voluntarily married to these women often for many decades. They were often pillars of their queer communities and lived as men for decades while also maintaining a strong presence in said communities they helped build.

Leslie Feinberg (RIP) was famously a transgender lesbian who helped build some of the building blocks of modern-day lesbian and trans theory. You can read hir book Stone Butch Blues for FREE too. Trans history is very accessible if you know where to look.

This is only a small sampling of the trans men/mascs who have helped shape the lesbian community into what it is today.

TLDR; remembering queer/trans history is not "chronically online". This is reality. I implore everyone arguing otherwise to get out of your echo chamber/bubble and go shake ass with the hot lesboys at your local gay bar or something.

Or, like, go read a book.

*I specify "woman-lover" as the term because "lesbian" as a term hadn't been coined yet at the time and these women would not have identified with that term. The first recorded use of the term "lesbian", ironically, was attributed to a trans man, Joseph Lobdell.

The main reason I adore the prototype fanbase is as follows

looove your point about pecco dunking jorge re: contract hopping when like you said he’s a disciple of vale who went where he could get the best bike same as marc and its not like the love wasnt there!!! the love was there and it didn’t change any part of their greedy grasping hands but it sure as hell hurt in their own ways to make those decisions. but they still made them. a wonderfully inchresting comparison callie i love your mind

literally!!!! one of my favorite and i think most interesting/revealing things about pecco is how loyal he is and how much he values doing things in the CORRECT way. hes not always perfect at it (which is maybe why the shame gets him) but he is always very slow and thoughtful about his actions and what hes doing AND he has the capacity to learn. so you get this situation where hes having a bad year at ducati and in the world of motorsports you are only as good as your last result and everyone starts piling on the WELL you should leave... and i really dont think he wants to leave for a lot of reasons (where else would be better among them !!), but also personal loyalty and what he's owed/what he owes others seems to be a part of it! especially when you take into consideration what he's said about jmartin leaving aprilia

VALE on the other hand has a much more reciprocal view of things and is perhaps a bit more sensitive to being slighted. in addition, HOW he wins is also something that's really important to him. he wants to build a legacy he wants to be the GOAT and he wants to look untouchable in a lotta ways. so when things sour with honda and he can feel a narrative forming about it being the machinery over the rider, he dips! and he has the wherewithal to chose a bike that while less perfect than the honda was still nontheless on the up and capable of winning a title. when he wanted to go, he went, and he made sure to land somewhere that could support him (results on this vary lol like the ducati move wasnt so genius but he was operating on a casey stoner evidence skew. both moves to yamaha were GOOD)

marc i think lands a bit more in the middle and mostly as a result of honda getting bad lol. like he is also very sentimental about his team (honda in this case) in a more pecco-esque way, but also VERY evidently had to move on due to the bike and his career being in some fairly extreme circumstances. he says NOW i had to go to extend and help my career, but if you ask him in 2015 i think leaving honda would be similarly unfathomable to him as leaving ducati would be to pecco now... i do wonder if pecco could get more towards the marc end of things if a better bike opens up/his time at ducati continues being rough, but i DONT see him cutting ties before the end of his contract like marc did (even if marc's was a mutual understanding built on that previous loyalty) because pecco is just a little more invested in doing things the Correct Way imo
