How have I never watched The Cat Returns until right now? Not showing a kid of the right age that film is unforgivable what the hell. It's so good. Absolute perfection, a masterpiece of cartooning and animation and storytelling and overflowing with the pure essence of coming-of-age-story sincerity and heart.

What a good film. I guess the closest parallel for me in films I did endlessly watch as a kid is Labyrinth and I think that probably explains a lot.

Sometimes I'm in my bed, with my eyes fixed in the ceiling and my mind reminds me of how amazing Eiichiro Oda is. Every chapter there is a hidden mistery within a mistery within an even bigger one, and he goes back and forth and the time keeps running and everything is happening at the same time and everything is connected and as a writer I think of the abillity of managing SO MANY characters and my brain goes *boom*

for real, there won't ever EVER be a better author, a better story teller than Oda. I swear to god.

Saw someone describe The Haunting of Hill House series as 'basic horror.'

The complex emotions and characters, the chilling subtle scares and the horrifying sudden ones, the underlying tension, the themes of love and death and life and depression and hope and hopelessness and inevitability woven so beautifully with each other. Dialogue that is exquisite

The story touches you so deeply because at the end of it all, the ghosts, the people, the pain are all human and that makes it terrifyingly real and poignant. But sure its basic horror.

i am genuinely a little sad that Guts' theme from the 90s Berserk anime is just relegated to "the funny sad meme song" for a lot of folks. I think crafting such a haunting, bizarre sounding but deeply, profoundly melancholic track for your character that looks like this is such an incredible encapsulation of Guts as a character. you'd think he'd have this crazy heart pounding head banging metal theme but instead you get something so...meditative and distinctly tragic.
