The dim light of the church cast eerie shadows across the hollow sanctuary as the last of Dwight's words lingered lifelessly in the air of the hollow sanctuary. His body placed gently atop a marble altar; bound and stripped bare of clothing until he was as he came into the world. Robin, his expression vacant and eyes hollow, approached slowly from the aisle, a single candle quivering in his grasp, as though the flame itself was begging to be extinguished and freed from him. He settled and stood behind the altar to cant his head towards Dwight, and time seemed to stand still as his gaze drank in the sight before him. Finally his lips curled into a thorny, toothy grin and his cold words dripped with malice:

"Who are you to think that you can decide the difference between good and evil? Little Lamb, these petty smearings will not save you."

The back of his knuckles brushed gently over Dwight's battered temple, no doubt the result of how Robin had captured him in the first place. A reassurance of the brutality he had yet to endure. Robin's heavy lashes fell halfway as he set the candle down and turned towards the tabernacle to fetch a piece of unleavened bread; and he set it beside his sacrifice with a soft expression. His knuckles brushed Dwight's cheek gently, as though he were comforting a crying child.

"Your doom is set, your time is nigh - the crypts beneath my church are starving for your rotted corpse, Sweetling."

Robin whispered words of doom and despair, painting a macabre portrait of the fate that awaited Dwight. The killer presence loomed over Dwight like a dark cloud, and his steely gaze piercing through the dense blackness that enveloped them. As Robin leaned in closer, his white hair cascading like a ghostly veil around them, the glint of madness in his eyes became unmistakable: a chilling reflection of the abyss that lay within his soul. There was no hope that he would let Dwight leave. Not now. Robin smiled and the promise of a dark and twisted demise hung heavy in the air, a grim reminder of the fragility of life and the merciless grip of fate.

"The flesh of the pure and innocent always tasted the cleanest - though … I doubt yours will compare to that of the babes."

With a hum his head twisted sideways slowly, like a serpent preparing to strike, revealing a face contorted with bloodlust. The killer quickly unsheathed a dagger that gleamed immaculately clean in the dim candlelight. It stood in stark contrast to the chaos unfolding before him, a symbol of precision amidst the volatile nature of Robin's urge. The air itself seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the inevitable collision of steel against flesh. In one swift motion, the dagger found its mark, plunging into Dwight's side with a sickening crunch as it forced its way between his ribs. The metallic tang of blood instantly filled the church, mingling with the musty scent of dust. A rush of crimson spilled forth, staining Robin's hands in a warm, sticky embrace. In that moment, Robin felt a strange disconnect from himself … He could feel Her approval.

His sense of purpose flitted through his elation. Robin was Her Harbinger. A rider on a pale horse, galloping towards an inevitable fate. Each hoofbeat thundering like a grim prophecy of the impending doom that awaited the world — a future on the brink of an irreversible metamorphosis, cocooned in Her webs. A new era loomed on the horizon, where the very essence of existence would be tainted by a crimson hue. The air would be thick with the fair perfume of decay and the earth would quiver beneath the weight of unending suffering; the rivers would run red and the skies would weep tears of ash. And he would continue towards the cruel embrace of that destiny until the last gasp of life ceased to echo, until a haunting silence reigned supreme over all existence ━━

But there was no need to rush such things.

The Sin Eater brought his focus back to the present moment, his mind clearing from its momentary haze of adrenaline and satisfaction. His gaze shifted back to Dwight, the man who had provoked this confrontation, and in that instant, the vivid visions of his future that had briefly danced before his eyes were abruptly shattered. Although, it wasn't as if this sweet view was anything to be upset about either. Still, his smile had faded back to a neutral expression now that he was faced with the vile smell of Dwight's blood.

"The bouquet of your blood is odiously sweet … "

Robin tapped his fingers along the edge of the wound, brow furrowing in thought as plans mingled with each other in his mind. There was hardly any sin left to savor within the veins of this dear boy, not only that but his blood seemed … stale somehow. Robin's mind wandered to the countless faces of his past victims, a deep well of forgotten memories in his mind. Had he eaten this one before? The question lingered like a specter in the recesses of his mind, a whisper of a past feast that eluded his grasp. His memory was a mass grave of hundreds - faces of his victims blurred together in a macabre tapestry of forgotten souls. Killing had become so habitual he had forgotten the majority of them … Although with Dwight upon his altar, a tantalizing opportunity presented itself; chance to sculpt a new masterpiece that would not so easily elude him. A new memory of exquisite butchery etched in the unfathomable abyss of his consciousness. Lo, this had become a far more interesting evening than he had previously thought possible!

His sharp canines peeked from below his lip as he leaned close to Dwight, his eyes gleaming with a mix of hunger and anticipation,

"Do not worry, I will stay with you afterwards. We have a very long night ahead of us."

I never see appreciation for the bishop purgatory designs anywhere, so. I am here. To change that.

I want to see more people mess around with the designs... I want to see more people including silly headcanons and stylizing them!!! Because the designs are all amazing!! The way each design conveys how the lamb fought them is INCREDIBLE.

The top of Leshys' head is devoid of foliage because the rest of him was hidden underground during his fight. Hekets' throat and stomach are raw and skinned because she's always landing and scraping around hard on stone when she's trying to crush you. Kallamar is covered in a large burn because it's so difficult to get close to him during his fight, implying the best strategy was a long range strategy. Shamuras' front is completely torn open and hanging out because they're running directly at you during the entire fight and that is exactly! Where! You'd! Be! Hitting them!

I'm just really really passionate about the bishop purgatory designs. I want to see more people explore them I think they're so cool.

TCOLC AU Bishop refs!

They're done holy FUCK. The art here is kind of old, so some of the proportions are a little wrong, but I don't really mind all that much. 15 hours and 89 layers later, all 5 bishops are done. On one canvas because... I didn't wanna make new ones I'm ngl.

Each bishop has an everyday outfit and a crusade outfit! If you're drawing them at any point (now or in the future) and you have questions about the designs, don't be scared to send an ask my way, I'm always happy to clarify stuff.

(Note: I would greatly appreciate it if people didn't make suggestive jokes surrounding any of the designs, I'm not comfortable with them! Love yall <3)

🌿 Leshy: It's to be noted that my Leshy is transmasc, literally just because I think he deserves it, it's cool as fuck. I really wanted to give him the classic top-surgery scars because, I'll be honest, they're fun to draw, but I had to find a reasonable explanation for it because he's not a mammal. Anyway that's how I ended up with an entire evolutionary explanation for why he would have those. I will never be given the chance to explain it in the fic ever, so it shall just be random information I have forever. I love him he's silly.

🍄 Heket: While I am a big supporter of tomboy Heket, I also think she deserves to be cool and wear pretty frills whenever the fuck she wants. She's awesome and her shirt is supposed to look like a mushroom. It's also worth noting that the crosses on the bishops heads are specific, with Heket having two crosses with double prongs. She has them like this in-game and there's probably a cooler explanation for it but. I have my own silly headcanons bc I do what I want! Also, since I can't decide for the fucking life of me if she's a toad or a frog, I've decided she's just. Both. Both of them. Her mom was a frog her dad was a toad. Is this possible irl? No but COTL is a fantasy world I do whatever the fuck I want.

🌑 Narinder: Main thing I note for Narinder is that he has distinct facial markings, you just have to look closely. Another note is that his clothes have a repeating cloud motif because of the fog in the gateway- which, trust, it was his own idea. Lamb doesn't know why he chose it but they're not gonna argue. Narinders' main robes are made of wool, but his crusade outfit is made of cotton so it's easier to repair if damaged. His crusade outfit has the Big Pants because he's mostly gotta fight with his feet now, since most of the time his hands don't function reliably enough to hold a weapon.

🪸 Kallamar: Kallamar is funny to me because he's the only one here who's plantigrade, meaning he's got human-esque legs. Another notable design aspect is that he has a tail, when squids do Not Normally Have Those. That's because my Kallamar isn't fully a squid, and you can kinda sorta blame my mutual for that. Not really it's me who gave him the tail. Anyway, no matter how you draw him or what outfit he's in those 3 dark red jewels on the golden chain thing gotta be on him somewhere- they're sentimental to him. He usually wears them as a crown, but in the crusade outfit they're around his neck to be safer. Also, on the crusade outfit, he has stolen a set of Shamuras gloves. Brat little brother <3

🔮 Shamura: Their main outfit really closely resembles their bishop robes and that is intentional! They made the robes themselves, and it would've been close to an exact match had the Lamb banned them from using golden colored cloth. This is only partially because Lamb doesn't like them, but also because they don't want the bishops trying to start a mutiny, and walking around in bishop robes is a pretty easy way to collect weaker followers like flies. Shamuras' crusade outfit is also pretty unique compared to the others, and one of two reasons is that it's meant to resemble their old crusade outfits when they were younger. The second reason is that they look really cool. The outfit is designed for mobility, mostly, and before you say anything, the hip windows are because Shamura usually holds close range weaponry in the second set of arms and hates the way they snag on fabric when its there.
