The guard shoves you into the room a little too forcefully, hard enough to leave another bruise that you'll discover in the morning.

You shakily walk to the bed, sitting down and staring solumly at your hands to try and pull yourself together. Your headspace is crashing quickly and you can't afford to slip here. Not with Singh around. Not with Rafe around.

"You can't ignore me forever you know" Rafe pipes up bitterly from the arm chair he's sitting on. His leg bounces under him as he looks up at you with wide, unfocused eyes.

He just stares at you for a moment, and when you don't respond, he stands up out of the arm chair, closing the distance to you in 4 short strides.

"You might not like me. Hell, you might hate me. But I'm the best chance you've got to getting out of here." He pleads with you.

His steps come to a stuttering halt when you finally lift your gaze, looking up at him with teary, scared eyes.

In an instant, his demeanour switches. He kneels down in front of you, hands hovering but never actually touching you as he looks into your eyes.

"Hey kiddo. It's just me. You're ok." He coos, stabilising himself on the bedframe as he squats down in front of you.

"Not a kid" you protest weakly, avoiding eye contact as you desperately try to hold onto some semblance of your big headspace

"Hey now it's alright kiddo. I know. I've taken care of Sarah before. You're alright. I promise I'm not that scary" He reassures you. And you must be close to slipping then you thought because you launch forward, burying yourself in his arms.

"Jesus. That was quick" He murmer, but his hands wrap around you nonetheless, lightly scratching your hair as you melt into his arms.

You fall asleep pretty quickly and he's content to just sit there for a while, holding you.

After about 30 minutes a guard comes in to check on you two. He frowns when he sees you snuggled up in Rafes lap and takes a step forward to break the two of you apart.

"I may be a prisoner here but you lay one finger on them and you will be leaving with more then one broken finger and a story to tell your boss" Rafe warns, his voice low and steady as he glares at the guard, holding you close and talking quietly to ensure that he doesn't wake you up.

The guard just puts his hands up and backs out of the room, locking it behind him.

Rafe gently picks you up and tucks you into the bed, letting you cling to him while he stays awake, keeping an eye out for anyone that might pose a threat to his new kid.

idk why people get super pedantic about the movie logic in Home Alone and start and try to pick it apart, because like, its a Christmas movie about a child accidentally being left home alone, the premise isn't exactly asking us to suspend our disbelief that much, and yet nearly every single "gotcha" question I see people bring up about this film is literally answered within the first 15 minutes :/
