started the last season of Castle, so some random thoughts (tons of spoilers for s6-s7, some of s8):

okay this ended up longer than i thought lmao this is what happens when i obsess over a show and just binge without having anyone to talk abt it so i’ll just put it under the cut:

im not entirely mad about the way they ended season 6, but couldn’t they have done what they did after the wedding. you seriously had everyone all dolled up in the beautiful Hamptons and did nothing with it

when they finally get married in s7, it is lovely and the vows are so sweet. but it did feel a little anti-climactic. i totally was on ryan and esposito’s side when they were salty abt not being there, even if it was impromptu.

i also noticed right away when s7 has different names in the credits. and then s8 had ENTIRELY different names again. so the original producer jumped shipped after s6, then the s7 team didn’t stick around after one season, and it kinda shows. it doesn’t feel like the same show.

that’s not say that it’s BAD. in fact some of the individual eps and their cases are some of the funnest, most interesting ones they’ve put out. like the plane one with Alexis. and the Saw-esque experiment one. but the bigger seasonal arcs are weirdly done.

the whole ‘Castle disappeared for two months’ plot is so contrived, and just seems like something for a show’s changing cast of producers to just fill in the blanks as they go because there is no clear vision for where the show should go anymore.

s8 kinda makes up for it by tying Castle’s disappearance back to Locksat. but!! Beckett’s characterization about the whole thing is so inconsistent. they are so past the point in the relationship where Beckett should feel the need to justify keeping Castle in the dark to protect him.

and when it comes out that Castle’s lost memories were partly about Locksat she is really upset and that scene where she tells him to stop talking and they just start drinking??? what??? they are MARRIED ffs, they’ve learned by now to just talk things out?? esp Beckett who they emphasized is willing to put in the work like when she voluntarily went to therapy for her PTSD in s4.

like yeah Castle, decided to have his memories abt Locksat wiped, so there is intent to keep things secret there, but that is not the same to the way Beckett consciously made the decision to lie to him

Castle had every right to be mad about Beckett leaving him, because it was kinda unnecessary. the moment Beckett comes to her senses and apologizes, her apology is just too little too late. ‘Don’t make me do this alone’ is also a little insincere, because she brought it on herself if Castle has had enough.

it looks like Castle isn’t going to forgive her immediately, but then... he kisses her and everything’s okay suddenly. cuz they’re in love and horny for each other, i guess lmao

i also dislike how they end seasons with this huge cliffhanger moments and big decisions only to have them reverse them after only a few episodes. how do you expect ur characters to change and grow if you just keep them in the same situations?

like Beckett being Captain is a huge deal, but oh she also happens to become the Captain of the 12th Precinct?? im pretty sure that’s not how it works.

the only growth from Ryan’s side so far is that he... is having a second kid? off screen? like we get it his married and he’s a dad. lol.

the animosity with Esposito abt the sergeant’s exam had potential, but they really had to resolve it with ‘you took a bullet for me bro’. like they couldn’t just actually talk abt their feelings.

all this Lanie/Esposito buildup for nothing lmao. they seriously dangled a potential new love interest in that train hijacking, and had them go ‘nope you have Lanie, don’t take her for granted’ and then they just. break up amicably anyway.

what is up with s8 and replacing familiar faces with new ones? im surprised Gates left, just when she seemed to be getting more airtime on the show. also where is Tori??? is Vikram our new tech guy now????

Haley, is pretty cool. tho i hate how they shoe horned her into Castle’s missing two months arc. she’s solid enough of a character to hold out on her own, and would’ve preferred her just growing attached to Castle (or maybe just more to Alexis) and just becoming an ally/friend that way.

i will end with one thing S8 has going for it: ALEXIS CASTLE!!! after sidelining her in S6 with that awful Pi storyline and being almost non-existent in s7, they just abandoned all pretense of her still being in college and just made her a Private Eye in her own right. PI Alexis kicks ass!! Haley mentoring her is wonderful. they’re using Alexis to her max potential, and her short hair looks this season, iconic. i’ve always loved Alexis, now im sticking it out for her.

anon.... im glad u asked..... i have a lot of thoughts.... yes i think ❤️ so here u go.... random headcanons abt the oph crew and there’s a lot (i got carried away 🥺👉🏾👈🏾):

• elijah watches anime along with jackie and aurora, they binge watch attack on titan together (aurora has a crush on levi, elijah has a crush on mikasa and jackie makes fun of them for it).

• bryce is a barb.... whenever he’s in the on-call room, he’ll plug in his headphones and listen to nicki. when he’s in his feelings he listens to grand piano. when bryce, raf and ethan work out together, bryce makes playlists, and although ethan complains, you’ll occasionally hear him humming to super bass. bryce can rap along to barbie tingz in 3x speed.

• keiki has made multiple tiktoks about bryce and they blew up and now he has a # on social media called ‘surgeon bae’. keiki hates it, bryce adores it. keiki is secretly happy that everyone loves bryce because not only does she get clout but she loves it when ppl love the ppl that she loves.

• sienna also secretly adores dad rock, whenever mc walks in when she’s baking, she’s always dancing to some 80’s pop rock hit. journey, aerosmith, ac/dc, she loves it all. it’s her guilty pleasure.

• before landry was exposed for being a lying snake, he implemented a rota for cooking and cleaning based on the roommates work schedules, they removed landry and replaced him with aurora. mc can cook decently but sienna and aurora are better and elijah and jackie are better at cleaning.

• jackie was a directioner, no one knew until they took a trip to the grocery store and jackie started singing along to ‘she’s not afraid’ and they still haven’t talked abt it. her faves were harry and zayn (as it should! ❤️).

• also aurora is deathly afraid of spiders and will scream the whole apartment down if she sees one. her roommates know this because she has done it multiple times before.

• raf was valedictorian in high school but chose to stay behind and go to community college for not only financial reasons but also family reasons. he was also offered a sports scholarship but stayed for aforementioned reasons. he also watches k-dramas and has a tiny crush on park seojoon (by tiny i mean big).

• tobias and ethan had a lil sexual chemistry going on back in college but they knew they were too stubborn and nothing would have worked out.... but cmon.... the sexual tension between them..... sumn happened and ik ethan isn’t giving us the full story. we don’t care abt ur chicken ethan jonah did u sleep with tobias or not 😒 the audience wants to know. (i kinda ship them 🙈 going after the same person to make the other jealous 🙈) .

• when zaid and baz were in school, they used to dress up as each other all the time and zaid could do a very convincing baz.... it was scary. they even took exams as each other, each in their stronger subject. they had to stop when they went to college tho.

a small note that this is from my personal experience from studying in college in sg ! studying methods varies for people so you could add on to it if something helps you !

🌱 reframing your mindset

this is probably the most important part because if you dont have the proper attitude to study, its hard to do well. everyone can say they want to do well but not everyone can set their mind to do so. be that person !

i told myself i would cut down on social media and hang out sessions so that i can really focus on schooling. this step is really important for people like me that gets distracted easily.

⏰ as soon as possible

do your work and revise asap!! try to review your content within 3 days from your lectures !

when work piles up, you would feel even more stressed and defeated so DO THAT WORK !

✏️ do your hw but dont do everything !

honestly, the workload from college is crazy and if you try to do everything, you are going to burn out really quickly. definitely try your best to do your work, at least the most important bits if you are really struggling.

🗣 be vocal in class

try to answer questions when your tutor poses a question. it might be embarrassing if you get it wrong but at least it will result in a mental note to go over that detail in revision ! it helps you stay focused and engaged in class which helps to cut so much extra revision time !

ask your tutor questions asap ! it’s always hard when starting out and i always thought “what is there to ask??” but the more you try to generate questions, the more natural it is.

📖 revision breakdown

focus on your weaker subjects and topics from the beginning of the year because you will need more time with them to improve. ( dont neglect revision for the rest though ) make sure you have gone through your content at least two to three times before exams !!

content revision should be mostly completed by prelims before study break definitely !! make time for practice papers !

📒start a bujo

if you fail to plan, you plan to fail

i used mine to plan my study schedule ! i struggled a lot with studying in the past because i relied on my mood to study. if im feeling depressed, i just feel bad for a day and do nothing which makes me feel even worse. i relied on periodic spurts of productivity that comes like once in a while.

when i started planning my study schedule, i am able to study more consistently instead and make enough time for every subject

📕keep a journal

this is to write all your goals and aspirations.

to chart your improvement in school, after every test or study session.

to sort your feelings out so that you can clear your mind to study.

to write in when you feel like you are distracted from your original path so that you can note it down and try to focus again. ( usually me after fic binging days )

🏝 sacrifices will be made

in college, i really didnt have much of a social life so i had enough for revision. i still indulged in things i liked once in a while as a tried but your focus should be on studying if you want to do well !!!

DONT EVER SACRIFICE YOUR SLEEP !

😴 sleep is important

some of us may say sleep is for the weak but not true ! having enough sleep is important to recharge you so that you can have productive study sessions !

on my second year, i had all my social media ( other than studyblr ) deleted. its really disrupting to see other friends having a life when you are mugging and trust me, that time feeling terrible can be used on something more productive.

if u dont trust yourself that much in staying focused throughout a whole study day, study with a good study buddy !! 
usually more productive with only one person but groups might work out with the right people

taking the time to consolidate is important but solely reading ur notes wont necessarily get you good grades ( esp in college ) !!
practice writing out the content with syllabus, practice papers etc and review to see what you need to improve on !!

🧘🏻‍♀️take breaks


this is actually so important but quite overlooked !! you need to satisfy yourself to stay motivated !! you need rest and energy to feel functional enough to study !!
try to not take phone breaks because its hard to go back to studying.

i find exercising as a break really nice !!

💦 discipline over motivation

this is a valuable lesson that studyblr has taught me. motivation is less sustainable as a reward must be present and in the case you do not have enough self control, this method will cease to be useful. discipline, however, can help you to remain productive and on task consistently
